Introduction
In the Prime Star Wars Universe, Anakin Skywalker, the ‘Chosen One’, the ‘Hero With No Fear’, Jedi General of the 501st Battalion in the Clone Wars, former padawan to Obi-wan Kenobi, first loss his birth mother, Shmi Skywalker, resulting in the Tusken Massacre. Following the Jedi Temple Bombing, the young Jedi Knight’s former padawan, Ahsoka Tano, left the Jedi Order. Due to the Rush Clovis Incident, a divorce came about from Anakin’s secret senator wife of Naboo, Padme Amidala Naberrie. Lastly, the rift between his former master and Anakin was growing because of the Rako Hardeen Mission, shifting the Jedi Knight closer to his Fall.
While Obi-wan Kenobi, the ‘Negotiator’, Jedi General of the 212th Battalion in the Clone Wars, member of the Jedi Council, former master to Anakin Skywalker, former padawan to the maverick Jedi, Qui-gon Jinn, first loss his master at the Battle of Naboo from the hands of Darth Maul. Following the Jedi Temple Bombing, the Jedi Master’s grandpadawan, Ahsoka Tano, left the Jedi Order. Lastly, the fissure between his former padawan and Obi-wan was enlarging because of the Rako Hardeen Mission.
(This all occurred before the kidnapping of the Chancellor of the Republic, Sheev Palpatine, from Count Dooku, leader of the Separatists.)
“Damn it Anakin! You and your half-cocked plans!” shouted Obi-wan who was running behind his former padawan, parrying blaster bolts from an oncoming droid army chasing after them.
“We got the holocrons, so stop complaining old man!” griped out by Anakin who blocked the blaster shots careening towards his head, juggling the holocrons in his flesh arm.
Obi-wan gritted his teeth but kept rushing forward to their starship (technically his former student’s, the Twilight’s, but the elder man isn’t arguing at the moment, continuing his dash to safety from the droids pursuing them).
“Obi-wan! Catch!” hollered Anakin who tossed the holocrons to his former master’s unsuspecting hands before Force-jumping onto the ramp of their ship, heading to the cockpit in a speedy fashion to switch the controls on to start the Twilight.
Once the younger man pitched the holocrons towards Obi-wan who caught it unceremoniously before placing them securely into his tunics’ pockets, the Jedi Master turned around to face the droids’ barrage of blaster bolts, deflecting with ease as he fell into his Soresu saber form (his preferred choice of fighting).
‘Obi-wan! Jump on the ramp!’ yelled out by Anakin through their still intact bond even though it should have been severed upon the younger man’s Knighting Ceremony.
Obi-wan flipped backwards onto the ramp and bellowed out, “Anakin, I’m in! Let’s go!”
The Twilight soon took off from the ground and suddenly lurched to the side, tumbling the auburn-haired man to the durasteel wall of the ship before the ramp closed, taking off into the atmosphere of the Mid-Rim planet.
“What the kark was that for Anakin?!” bit out by Obi-wan who rubbed the back of his neck before massaging his temple of the growing bruise and headache from his rollout to the ship’s wall.
Once the Twilight was out of atmo, Anakin set the ship on autopilot before joining his former master on the durasteel ground who was radiating annoyance in the Force.
“Sorry Obi-wan. There was an appearance of an approaching missile on the scanners, so I flipped the ship to avoid it,” apologized Anakin who held out his gloved hand which contained his black and gold plated prosthetic (courtesy of Dooku).
Obi-wan snorted while rising up with his former padawan’s assistance, “I’m surprised I didn’t sense the danger, but I guess I have these two holocrons to blame.” The Jedi Master pulled out the holocrons, one in the shape of a cube (Jedi origin) and the other in the form of a pyramid (Sith origin).
“It’s weird that the Separatists had both, but I’m glad we recovered them,” said Anakin who poked at the Sith holocron before Obi-wan swatted his finger away, “Anakin, don’t mess with either of them. We don’t want them activating on us.”
Anakin sighed out, “Whatever you say Obi-wan, you’re the Jedi Master.”
Obi-wan rolled his blue-green eyes, “Anakin, you act like I’m above you in command. We’re equals.”
The younger man glowered before speaking lowly and venomously, “Are we?”
Obi-wan had no quippy rebuttal, remembering that he had hurt his former padawan previously from the Rako Hardeen Mission that was still being reminded every now and then from the Jedi Knight even though they put aside their differences to perform joint missions provided from the Jedi Council, their relationship hasn’t been the same since and was increasingly widening by the day.
Anakin huffed out before turning on his heel back to the cockpit, “That’s what I thought.”
While Obi-wan was writing the mission report in his room on the Twilight, a holo-call from the Council was binging on his comm. He answered with a slur of his Coruscanti accent, “Yes Masters?”
“Obi-wan, good to hear from you,” spoke from Mace Windu.
Obi-wan replied, “The same with you, Mace. What did you need?”
“A distress call in Wild Space has got the Council worried and since you and Skywalker are the closest, go check it out,” ordered Windu.
“May I ask why the distress call has the Council alarmed?” probed Obi-wan.
“The time-stamp of the signal is almost 20 years in the future,” divulged Windu in a dour tone.
Obi-wan’s eyes enlarged in surprise before he stuttered out, “Are you sure?”
“Quite, Obi-wan. Peculiar to even us this is. Yes, hrrmmm,” spoke up from Yoda.
“Understood Masters. We’ll head to the signal, just send the coordinates. May the Force be with you,” said Obi-wan in an understanding tone.
“It might be nothing, but be cautious Obi-wan. May the Force be with you,” returned Windu who ended his side of the holo-call.
The Jedi Master hung up his side of the holo-call, soon receiving the coordinates to the distress call, transferring it to the Twilight’s nav-computer, and then slumping in his desk chair, stroking his auburn beard in contemplation of the proposed mission from the Council.
Anakin noticed the incoming coordinates from where he was at in the cockpit and then rerouted the Twilight to the new set of coordinates. He then trudged to Obi-wan’s quarters, knocking before entering with a swish of the door.
“What’s with the new route?” asked Anakin who bounced on top of his former master’s bed, lounging back on his arms, legs crossed in front of his body in a leisurely way.
“New mission from the Council. We’re answering a distress call from a signal somewhere in Wild Space,” answered Obi-wan.
“Cool, I’m surprise the Council didn’t want the holocrons first, but what are you going to do?” shrugged Anakin who sprung up from the bed and dawdled towards the door leading out of the elder man’s room.
“Indeed. How long until we arrive?” questioned Obi-wan.
“A few hours, give or take,” responded Anakin before he exited the room.
Obi-wan nodded his head in approval and decided to store his holopad away to get some rest before their arrival.
-Hours later-
Obi-wan awoke with a start when the ship begun shaking non-stop as well as alarms blaring in the background. He scrambled to redress after he had stripped down to his undertunics for his nap before arriving to the cockpit in a rush to the co-pilot’s seat, strapping his seatbelt on, and voicing out, “What the hell happened?!”
“How the kriff would I know?! I was tinkering away on my droids before lightly snoozing against the wall and then the alarms ranged, swaying the ship back and forth!” yelled back by Anakin who had already switched off the autopilot and was gripping the steering wheel like his life depended on it.
The nav-computer then pinged that they had arrived at their destination based on the coordinates but there was nothing but space before them until an astral projection of loth-wolves formed in a circle appeared in the viewport of the Twilight. Then the holocrons that were in Obi-wan’s quarters activated on their own before the ship jolted forward of its own accord, plummeting through the ring of astral projected loth-wolves.
“Fuck!” swore Anakin.
“Kriff!” cursed Obi-wan.
And then everything went dark.
