Worsties

Summary:

Just a short story of Klavier and Ema hanging out together. Ema may say whatever she pleases, even say with a straight face that she hates that glimmerous fop. But Klavier knows better.

Work Text:

“Do you hate me?” Klavier asked, lying in Ema’s lap and poking her cheek

“Yes,” she replied without looking down and continued to sip on her drink, unbothered.

“You’re lying,” he said with a smile in his voice and a grin plastered across his face.

He cupped her cheeks with his hand and squeezed them gently. Now looking like an unimpressed fish Ema finally looked at him. She took his hand off herself to be able to properly speak.

“Am I that obvious?” She leaned on the back of the couch, rested her elbow on the armrest and propped her chin on the palm of her hand. She sighed as if sadly. “Here I thought I had you believing I’d sell you for half a chocolate egg to an alien.”

“You had me believing at the beginning,” he commented still smiling and completely relaxed despite remembering their not so fine moments, “Since day one and until very recently I thought you were going to murder me in my sleep.”

“That’s ‘cause it was true at the time.”

“Why?”

After a few moments of uncomfortable silence during which Ema was making a list in her head before she would spill everything and Klavier was thinking through every possible answer, Klavier spoke up first.

“You know.” Maybe he didn’t want to hear everything he did wrong. Not today at least. “I have a better question. What changed?”

After heaving a sigh, Ema made a strange face of mild disgust. It was like she tried to taste the words on her tongue and chewed on them before deciding that the previous question was much more welcomed. It was easier to answer.

“Nah.” She shook her head, rolling her shoulders and sitting up more comfortably. “Let me go through everything in order.” She pouted. “Or you’ll make look like a dick.”

Klavier sat up and prepared to listen.

“I thought you were an asshole and as the time went on I was convinced that you were one. It felt like you weren’t taking me seriously. Like you weren’t taking your job seriously. Like everything was just another rock concert for you where all you had to do was look pretty, play a little song and everything would be done. It annoyed the fuck out of me. You disbarred my friend, there were lives on the line and you were just playing!” Ema clenched her hands and Klavier tensed up. But then she sighed. “But you were actually making sense in court and I couldn’t really ignore that. It kind of, sort of clashed with my idea of you being an unprofessional glimmerous fop.”

At that Klavier cooed and Ema put a hand on his smiling face.

“Shut it!”

Klavier chuckled and Ema had a hard time holding her frown from turning upside down.

Anyway.” She retreated her hand and rolled her eyes. “Now you are just annoying, but I don’t really have anything against you. I just thought that someone had to be angry for Mr. Wright, but now that there is nothing to be angry about… So, now you have one negative aspect about you and one aspect about you that I can respect. So, I don’t necessary hate you anymore. I just tolerate you.”

“Awww…” Klavier cooed again, Ema rolled her eyes again, and he continued, “So you accept me as a glimmerous fop?”

“Yes.”

“You accept my glimmerousness and my fopness?”

“Glimmerousness isn’t a word.”

“Glimmerous isn’t a word either… besides, you like it!” Klavier poked her cheek again.

“I don’t!”

“You are smiling!”

“Damn it!” Ema turned away from him, because she really couldn’t help the smile growing on her face. “No! I decided that I still hate you!”

“I love you, too,” he sang with a big grin.

Ema finally slapped his hand away from her and continued to sip on her drink to hide the smile this way. Klavier just laughed and lay back on her lap. If he were still annoying, he was going to make it his worstie's problem.
