Shang Qinghua was nervous that him being a transmigrator may have altered the timeline too much, so he had to go and check on baby Luo Binghe to make sure he was okay. But when he saw his baby protagonist, he couldn't help but take him in.
Time passes mostly the same as it should have in the original, just with Luo Binghe growing up with Shang Qinghua as his father. Luo Binghe wanted to make his father proud and become strong enough to protect him from everything. And falling into the abyss may have been the boost in power that he needed.
