Work Text:

There was a reason why he hated being back on the surface. He hated the rain.

It was a deluge of humidity and wind, the rain relentlessly pitter-pattering on the windows and pavements. Early birds scurried on the roads, looking for shelter to keep their clothes warm and dry.

Unfortunately, Katsuki did not have that luxury at the moment.

The soles of his boots hit the puddles again, tracking water and mud at the hem of his pants. The cold continuously nipped at his cheeks as he hastened his approach to the door. His teeth grind against each other in both cold and frustration, internally scolding himself.

I shouldn’t have taken the morning shift this week.

Katsuki huffed and leaned on the door, grateful for the small protection from the rain the flower cafe shop gave. But that tiny bit of happiness was cut short when he struggled to find the keys in his hoodie, checking every single pocket in his jacket, including the ones in his pants. A string of expletives left his lips realizing that it was in his other jacket.

Great.

He was both cold and wet. And now apparently, locked out.

What a fucking terrific combination.

He carded his fingers through his wet hair and pushed it back, feet rhythmically tapping against the concrete as he bit the inside of his cheek. Red eyes shifted to the road as he contemplated braving the rain once more to go home.

Until the rain suddenly stopped pouring. It stopped pouring on him.

“A measly building won’t protect you, love. It’s way too early for you to be outside, don’t you know?”

Katsuki shivered but not because of the cold.

It was that stupid voice again. As if he was here with him even if he wasn’t.

A huge coat was draped on him, hanging so loosely past his shoulders, sleeves, and hem dangling on his thighs. It was so large on him, obviously worn by someone taller and bigger than him.

He fought the urge to wrap it closer to him so he could sniff it. To check if it was real.

“You shouldn’t be out this early in the morning, Kacchan.”

Izuku was really here.

The nickname was a dead giveaway. It explained a lot, especially the umbrella and the huge coat that kept him warm.

And Katsuki wasn’t shocked at all. That was just how Izuku is.

For the God of the Underworld, he sure was very similar to Cerberus—all big and scary-looking but a puppy at heart, following so closely to its owner, which in this case was him.

“It’s my shift,” he grumbled, leaning back ever so slightly to Izuku for warmth.

Izuku hummed in understanding and pulled Katsuki to his chest as if to bring him under the umbrella. But he just wanted Katsuki closer to him after being separated from him for so long even if it was only a week.

“I think Mitsuki-san keeps a spare somewhere.”

Katsuki raised a brow, wondering how he knew that but he did look for one, seeing a glint of silver sticking out under the pot of the swiss cheese plant—the same plant he had been persuading his mother to get rid of.

But arguing with her about it would come later. He wanted, needed , to go inside first, then they could have another yelling match over the phone once he’s warm and cozy.

Katsuki bent down and took the key, unlocking the door without a second thought.

The chime of the bells greeted Katsuki and Izuku as they walked in, welcomed by the sight of potted plants and aerial ones decorating the store. He drew in a deep breath of the residual scent of coffee that permeated the air. It was so much better than smelling petrichor every time he went outside in rainy seasons.

This and surprisingly, Izuku, were his anchor for today that gave a sense of normalcy and predictability in this depressing thunderstorm.

He hung Izuku’s coat and his jacket on the rack then glanced at his wet clothes and Izuku’s damp hair and shoulders.

“Hold on. I'll get something to dry us off.”

Katsuki disappeared into the employees’ room and returned with a towel in hand. He stopped in front of Izuku and clicked his tongue at the realization.

Soon, red painted the tip of his ears as he slowly stood on the tip of his toes to dry Izuku while he leaned down.

Izuku took the opportunity to stare at Katsuki’s face. He hadn’t had the pleasure of seeing it so close for so long. He missed gazing at those beautiful deep red eyes, how his long lashes fluttered as Katsuki blinked slowly like a cat. And those pretty lips that seemed like a red string with how it curled then twisted into a knot with a pout.

Izuku couldn’t help himself but lean forward, placing a feathery kiss on Katsuki’s forehead that peeked through his hair.

Instantly, Katsuki’s face resembled that of a tomato.

“Y-You… You fucking sap.”

“Kacchan’s sap.”

Katsuki muttered curses under his breath and shoved the towel to Izuku’s face.

He should have known Izuku would do something like that. And he should have been used to it by now. But his face kept betraying him with how his cheeks flushed. He turned to hide his face and distracted himself by making them a hot drink.

Izuku chuckled and sat on the barstool, perching his elbow on the counter and chin on his palm, staring—admiring—Katsuki while he worked.

Katsuki snorted at his simping antics. It was as if Izuku was a puppy eyeing his favorite toy or treat from a shop. All that was left was a wagging tail.

Then he remembered that Izuku wasn’t supposed to be here of all places.

“What are you doing here, Izuku?”

“I missed you, Kacchan,” Izuku answered without missing a beat.

Katsuki paused, almost messing up Izuku’s drink and he was tempted to do so for flustering him so easily.

Fucking silver-tongued devil.

“The hag’s gonna kill you if she finds out,” Katsuki threatened.

But Izuku remained unperturbed, his smile ever-present on his face, “Is it wrong to see my fiancé?”

Katsuki didn’t think that his face could get redder but it did.

“I-It is if you keep breaking the agreement!”

“Mitsuki-san won’t mind as long as I’m a paying customer here, Kacchan.”

Katsuki rolled his eyes, “You’re gonna go broke, Deku .”

“I’m not the god of wealth and riches for nothing, Kacchan.” And to show off, Izuku ordered breakfast for both of them.

Katsuki shook his head in disapproval at his stubbornness and disappeared into the kitchen. While Izuku looked around the flower shop part of the cafe, thinking about his original purpose here.

At first, Izuku wanted to see how Katsuki was doing now that he moved back to the surface. But seeing him under the rain, he did not find it in him to stay away as he was told.

Soft and delicate petals met his skin as he fleeting brushed his fingers on the flowers, admiring Katsuki’s hard work. Looking at the myriad of colors made him think about the plants Katsuki would like to have in his room, especially in the garden he had been secretly preparing for when Katsuki finally moved in.

He wanted to make Katsuki feel at home. Now that it was going to be his home soon.

He couldn’t wait to see Katsuki’s expression when he saw it, thinking about the possible picnics while they walk Cerberus and the late-night strolls they could have.

Izuku got so absorbed in his thoughts that he failed to notice Katsuki by his side until he felt a hand on his arm, telling him that breakfast is ready.

They both sat on the barstool, slightly swiveling it to the side as they ate together in silence, simply enjoying each other’s company.

“What were you thinking of, nerd?”

“You,” was Izuku’s instant reply.

The blush was back on his face again and Katsuki kicked him on the shin.

Izuku managed to keep the mug still in his hands as he winced in pain.

“But it’s true Kacchan,” Izuku whined and placed the mug down on the counter.

Slowly, his hand reached out, holding Katsuki’s hand, and pulled it to his thigh as he caressed it, taking every note of the small scars from handling plants and working in the kitchen. His heart squeezed from how small it was compared to his. How perfect it was in his.

He couldn’t wait to put a ring on it soon.

“I can’t… I don’t want to wait for another six months. I can’t wait for the day you move in with me. I want to be with you now. But until then, I’ll bend and break any rules just to see you, Kacchan.”

Katsuki softly called him a sap again and suddenly turned silent, witnessing Izuku’s resolve in his eyes to do anything and everything for them to be together.

Then there were picturesque moments that played in his head, thinking of their life together in the future. Katsuki gave him a fond smile, followed by a gentle squeeze.

“Me too, Izuku. Me too.”
