Work Text:

Akito was exhausted.

He stayed up a few hours too late trying to finish his homework after an event with his teammates went on a bit later than expected. Of course, typical of him, he didn't finish the assignment before. Toya warned him MULTIPLE times not to procrastinate, and Akito promised not to. But, as everyone expected, he got distracted with practicing for the show and rehearsing for hours.

By the time he was in bed, it was two in the morning. The worst thing? He only finished half of his work, the math equations making less and less sense with every passing moment, blurring onto the page until they weren't numbers anymore.

When he walked into school, he didn't even notice Toya in the hallway and greet him like he usually did, causing the latter to spark some concern. A huge group of other students separated them before Toya could walk over and ask how he was doing. He'd just have to wait until lunch.

After nodding off for two whole periods and getting yelled at by two whole teachers, it was finally lunch. Akito tiredly slung his backpack over his shoulder and trudged up 2 flights of stairs, groaning with every single mile-long step. He finally reached the rooftop after what felt like an eternity, and pushed open the door to go have his lunch with Toya.

He plopped down on the hard concrete a few meters away from his partner. He scooted closed to Toya with a tired sigh.

"Hello Toya..." He groaned.

"Hey Akito. Are you okay? You don't look too good." Toya said, noticing his bed hair and eye bags.

"Thanks, man." he said sarcastically, rolling his eyes at him.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. Just looking out for you. Did you not sleep well?"
Toya said with a little frown.

"Nah, don't worry about it, I'm not seriously mad, just playing with you. And no, I slept like 3 hours."

Toya let out a sigh, but he wasn't frustrated. With a little smile, he said,

"You pushed yourself too hard again, didn't you?"

"Ghh, I'm sorry, ok? It's better than not doing enough, ya know?" Akito said, rubbing his eyes and leaning backwards onto the fence behind him.

Toya smiled genuinely.

"Yeah, it's not really a bad thing is it? You are the most hardworking person I know. Really, you amaze me."

"Toya, you are going to kill me." Akito joked, and looked away trying to hide that he was blushing from the flattery.

"Really though, you impress me so much. I've never met someone so ambitious. It's one of my favorite things about you." Toya says, oblivious to the fact he's about to give Akito a heart attack.

"Says you, you should give yourself more credit. You are better than me, in the way you can actually finish your homework then fall asleep on time."

Akito responds jokingly, averting his eyes to hide his embarrassment.

Akito stretched his arms out and yawned. He untied the flannel around his waist and bunched it down on the ground, using it as a pillow.

"Hope you don't mind if I try and have a quick nap, partner. I don't want to get yelled at by a teacher again for being tired."

"I don't mind at all, but your going to be uncomfortable if you lie like that."

Akito let out a sigh, and looked up at his teammate.

"You can lie on me if you want. It might be more comfortable."

Akito's eyes widened. He tried as hard as he could to be cool about it, but he couldn't ignore the small (large) crush he had on his teammate.

"Um.... " He stammered, not gathering a proper answer yet.

"You don't have to, I just don't want you to hurt your neck."

"No , I mean, like, if it's ok with you....?" Akito said, his voice slightly cracking.

"I literally offered, Akito."

Akito tried not to make eye contact as he lay down on Toya's lap, feeling stupid. He turned away from him, thinking looking up at Toya might just kill him.

Suddenly he wasn't so tired anymore. He just pretended to be asleep and hoped Toya didn't see him blushing.

It was nice though. He was so warm, Akito could lie there for hours. The fabric of his jeans rubbed against his cheek, and he could hear him breathing he was so close.

Toya read his mystery book, holding it above akitos head. He purposely flipped the pages quietly so he could get some rest.

15 minutes and Akito was still not tired at all. In fact, he was more awake from being flustered.

But it seems Toya thought he was asleep, and gently lay his mystery novel next to his leg.

It took all of Akito's strength not to move or say anything when Toya rested his hand on Akito's head.

He wouldn't admit how much he actually loved this, he felt happy and comfortable in Toya's lap. He was afraid if he moved Toya would move his hand away.

Toya absentmindedly ran his hands through Akito's ginger hair. "It's so soft" he thinks, and smiles down at the "sleeping" boy below him.

He would like to get used to this.
Little did he know that Akito was awake to notice Toya's affection.

A few times akito caught himself not breathing properly trying not to make a noise. From the lack of oxygen and pure gay panic his face was burning up and turning bright red.

Toya twirled Akito's streak of blonde hair around his finger. The rest of his hair had became long and overgrown, and he needed a haircut. But honestly, Toya wouldn't mind it he grew it out more he looked nice (cute?) with longer hair.

He could go on and on about what he liked about Akito.

His hair, his talent, his ambition, his smile. Toya was head over heels for his singing partner. He had to admit that offering Akito a place to sleep was a selfish offer of sorts.

He picked his novel back up and tried to read it with one hand, to enjoy his novel and have his hand on his crush's head at the same time. He got through a couple of pages but accidentally flipped the page a bit too hard. He felt the book fall out of his grip. It fell out his hand and hit the floor loudly right next to Akito's head.

To both of their surprise, Akito accidentally let out a laugh as it landed right in front of him.

His thoughts then turned to strings of curses and cut off the laughing almost instantly. Crap, Toya DEFINITELY heard that.

Toya didn't bother to pick the book up, he froze and closed his eyes from embarrassment, not bearing to look back down.

"Oh my god.... I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to be weird. Were you awake the whole time?"

Akito burst out laughing again, and turned around to look up at him.

"Yeah. But Toya... I really don't mind. That was just really stupid. You can't read a book with one hand."

He continued,
"And for the record. I like it. Like, you touching my hair. It feels nice. Just don't drop the book on my face, ok?"

Akito cringed at himself. God that was embarrassing to say out loud. But it was better than to keep the feelings all bottled up, I guess.

Toya's embarrassment got rid of most of Akito's, though, and the laughter got rid of a lot of the awkwardness between them.

Akito closed his eyes again and contently smiled, this time facing up to Toya.

"I should be tired more often."
