Chapter 1: Prologe

Chapter Text

A beautiful sunny day in the middle of spring. The weather was warm and the wind felt pleasant. All kinds of flowers were blooming and birds chirped happily.

It would have been a peaceful day.

Slash!

"C-cale my child…"

If it weren't for the blood splatting on the meadow, flowers as white as snow were dyed in red from all the blood. Corpses of knights and soldiers laid on the ground. Some who were still alive groaned in pain.

They tried to flee or even fight and protect their master but soon death would come to them.

It was useless anyway, their master, a red haired woman was already on the ground dying hugging her baby, not long and the last breath would leave her body.

Right before her was the culprit for everything that happens now.

"Countess…"

Drew Henituse was the name of the red haired woman, she was a noble who married in a count household. It has not been long since she was blessed with a baby, her son she was hugging right now: Cale Henituse.

You could hear the baby crying in her arms. Drew had to do something in her last moment to at least save her son.

"Please…anything but let my child live."

It was hard to talk, her throat was filled with her own blood and the man who stabbed her with a sword had a crushing aura which made it harder to talk.

He had blood red hair like her and also brown eyes hiding behind his white mask but in lighter color. The eyes looked like amber which slowly lost its color.

The man bent down to her looking in her dying eyes then at the baby who also had blood red hair. The redhead smiled but his smile was beyond any good meaning.

"I don't care about your child, all I want is the power you have."

He had no intention to let anyone live and it didn't matter if this child lived or not. He would leave it in her arms, letting his cry continue and then slowly die since no would come and save the child.

No matter what the result would be the same.

The woman's eyes became lifeless as she lost her life, a light embraced her but soon left her side and wandered to the man.

The light's color was a gentle green, it soon vanished into the man's body.

"I wonder if this gentle color also had such tender warmth. A pity I would never be able to feel it but it was worth the sacrifice."

The young man was cursed to never feel the warmth of spring and the cold of winter. He also would never feel joy and be able to admire someone if he did this very person would die on the spot. Places he longed for could never be visited again and he would never find rest not in sleep nor in death.

But for his goal this was a small cost to pay.

And the power he received would also help him to reach his goal.

A power to let him see the time of others. Of course he immediately tried it out and the baby would be the test subject.

!!!

But what he saw was not what the man expected.

"It's time…"

Without wasting more time he looked at his allies or what he liked to call them: bird's food.

"What's wrong, my liege?"

Everyone else looked normal like it was described in the book (an: idk where he knew about the power so I chose the book….some paper told him.)

The man turned back to the crying baby, took it from the corpse and held him in his arms. The kid immediately stopped crying after the man examined him.

Right after he touched the baby, the redhead could feel his soft hair and warm body which shouldn't be possible.

"So soft, tiny and…chubby."

It was surprisingly adorable.

"Your name was Cale wasn't it? Ha! What a coincidence."

The man jegan to talk with the baby, meanwhile his allies were lost by his actions. One of them approached him, he had a huge body and was looking like a bear.

"Barrow? What's with the baby, should I take care of it?"

"Yes, hold it for me… it stinks."

Sayeru who was lost and confused, had to catch a baby who was thrown at him. The baby even found it amusing and began to laugh.

Before the bear could say anything, the man began to continue his talk.

"We are taking it with us. I don't know how to handle such a tiny creature, so you will handle it till we are back."

"Huh?"

Sayeru looked at the baby. He had a similar look to his liege, same red hair and eyes… they might be a bit darker but all in all the baby looked like Barrow… just in a tiny version.

The bear really wanted to ask if it was his child and if the woman was an accidental one night stand but he kept quiet, he knew he would lose an arm for asking useless things.

His liege rarely talked about himself.

"We are going."

"Yes, oh our great White Star!"

Cale the little baby laughed louder after hearing how his allies called the man.

"I feel like this little chubby thing is laughing at me."

But the White Star paid no mind. It was a baby after all and they were dumb, they didn't know anything about this cruel world.

After he made some steps, he took Cale from Sayeru and went off.

"Damn, you stinks.''

________________________________________________________

Kim Rok Soo knew something was wrong after he woke up.

Not only was his version blurry but he couldn't move as he liked. He looked around to see an unfamiliar room. At least he thought it didn't look like his room or any other rooms he was in. Then he saw his tiny arms and his own crying noises.

'What? That's me?'

It seemed like he became a baby.

"My liege, it is uncomfortable for the baby to lay on a desk, we need a crib."

"Will it stop making those loud noises when we get one?"

"Certainly!"

Kim Rok Soo could hear voices, he had no idea who they were but one took him in his arms and Kim Rok Soo stopped crying. He wouldn't cry at all but he couldn't control it.

"You stop crying when I hold you, hmm? How can a tiny thing like you be so loud in the first place? It hurts my ears."

Kim Rok Soo wondered who the person was, all he could see was a mixture of red, white and black. Was he his father? It felt so scary, Kim Rok Soo could feel his tears flooding again.

"Will you continue calling the baby it or will you give him a name?"

Kim Rok Soo turned to the other voice, what he saw was just a mesh of brown and he also seemed scary but not as much as the other person.

"Cale, that's what the woman called it."

"...really, Cale Barrow."

Kim Rok Soo, now named Cale, didn't know how the person who was holding had the same name he just thought his new name was now Cale Barrow.

"Cale the second and we will leave it like that."

'Huh?'

It seemed Cale got a terrible father.

Chapter Text

Cale was crying extremely loud and he knew why; he was hungry.

White Star, Sayeru, and Dorph were standing around and didn't know what to do. None of the three had experience with babies. Dorph was even afraid to hold Cale since he was so tiny.

"Why does it cry again?"

White Star was confused, he did get a crib as Sayeru said but it only made it worse now the baby was screaming even louder. For him, the only option was to take Cale and put him back on the desk.

Cale of course continued crying.

'Are those idiots?! No way this is my family.'

Any parents would run around now and try various things to satisfy their baby and the first option they mostly tried was giving them food but those three individuals were just staring at him.

"Sayeru you said it would stop crying when I get a crib and put it in."

"Yes, I don't know why he is still crying, I heard babies sleep all day and a crib should do its job!"

White Star took Cale in his arms again, Cale stopped crying twice after he was in his arms but it didn't help either. The White Star wanted to put him back however Cale held onto his robe tightly and stained it with his tears.

He tried to get Cale to let go of his robe but suddenly White Star stopped when Dorph had an idea.

"Wait! He must be hungry. I often saw how mothers feed their babies with their nipples."

Sayeru and White Star were shocked, but still, they couldn't deny it. The baby was holding near White Star's nipple so it must have meant Dorph was right.

"My liege, aren't you like a mother to him now?"

Dorph and Sayeru looked at their liege while the White Star looked at the baby.

"I am not a woman."

He possibly couldn't feed a baby with his- no, he refused to acknowledge that. The White Star just took the baby with him, he was not his mother nor his father. He would kill it right after he found out more about this thing.

Cale began to rub his teary face against White Star's robe.

'How can those scary people be so dumb?'

"Get duke Fredo! He has a child so he should know what to do."

"Yes, my liege."

Both Sayeru and Dorph had left, and now the White Star was alone with the crying baby. Cale buried his face even deeper in White Star's robe which the White Star misunderstood.

"I don't have any food in there."

He patted Cale while watching him cry, there was nothing else he could do right now.

After staring at this tiny creature he noticed how much both look alike. The red hair, brown eyes, and pale skin however he wouldn't say the same for his face, the baby has bigger eyes and a rounder head and the cheeks are chubby.

The White Star was thinking about pinching those chubby cheeks.

"You are kind of adorable."

He couldn't believe himself saying such things, he even shouldn't be able to, yet here he was.

That's why he needed to kill this baby, it could become dangerous to him and the risk wasn't worth it.

He would just take care of it a bit longer, and wouldn't hurt anyone since this tiny thing could only cry and scream.

'But really…'

He lifted Cale in the air to take a better look at him.

"How can such a tiny and fragile thing survive? Why are you so small?"

Could such a tiny creature grow into a full-grown adult? It felt like he would always stay small. To be honest, White Star would prefer it, it was easier to carry it around.

Cale in the meanwhile was asking himself how the person in front of him could become a father.

'I am a baby, I can't survive on my own. The reason I am small is for you to think I am cute and take care of me.'

With such a father the chances of survival were slim.

Suddenly the door opened, and it showed a tall man with silver long hair bound together in a ponytail and purple eyes shining like amethyst. His skin was pale compared to a corpse you would think the corpse had more life in them than him.

"Duke Fredo, you are here."

Duke Fredo with his pointy ears and teeth was obvious he was a vampire since Cale’s eyesight was still blurry he couldn't recognize him as one. He just hoped the duke wasn't as dumb as the others. His throat hurt from all the crying.

"Your majesty, I heard you have a child! Congratulations. Boy or girl?

"Boy. Now look at it and make it stop crying."

White Star tossed Cale to Fredo over, and Cale's cry became louder as if he didn't want to be held by this stranger. Sayeru and Dorph were already covering their ears. Just how was a baby able to cry that loud?

Fredo continued asking useless questions.

"The mother? Where is she?"

"Dead."

"Of course… When was his last meal?"

"I don't know, I just got him."

Got him? Duke Fredo wanted to question that but after looking at this child he noticed how he must be some months old.

He would assume the White Star killed his mother and kidnapped him…however for what reasons?

Also, the little boy just looked like the White Star, no doubt it was his baby, a cute one at that.

'Poor thing, you have a father who doesn't know how to take care of you.'

"Well, since the poor boy seems to be a nuisance to you…I can look after him, one more child doesn't make a difference."

With an instant, the White Star took Cale away from Fredo.

"No, just tell me how to make it stop crying."

"He is just hungry."

"So I need him to feed him with my- no, what does this thing eat?"

"I shall prepare everything, your majesty."

'Thank goodness, someone who knows what to do.'

Cale was relieved, soon he would stop crying and his tummy would stop hurting.

_______________________________________________________

Fredo came back with many things, it was amazing how he was able to get all those stuff so fast.

"What is this?"

"All for your baby, oh what is his name?"

"Cale Barrow the second."

"Pffft…"

It was hard for Fredo not to laugh. What a bad naming choice, he did look like White Star but that was not a reason to give him the same name.

If this baby continued crying even after his meal, Fredo would know why.

"Here your majesty, take this bottle it should be at the perfect temperature. Before let me adjust Cale in your arms, it is important to hold him correct."

After seeing the bottle Cale already stopped crying. He lifted his tiny arms to show how hungry he was, he was wiggling around White Star's arm, the White Star had some trouble not letting him fall.

"Look how impatient our little Cale is, wants to even hold the bottle alone."

White Star just watched how Fredo guided him.

"So now just stay like this and hold the bottle, Cale will drink by himself."

It was a weird feeling for the White Star, never in his life had he held a baby let alone fed one. For him, it was amazing how such a tiny creature could drink so fiercely and wiggle around at the same time.

Dorph and Sayeru also couldn't help but watch, all this was so new to them.

"Oh my, look how fast he is drinking."

White Star's lips twitched a bit and made a little smile. An occurrence that never happened before.

It didn't take long till Cale drank all the milk, White Star lifted Cale after he put the bottle down.

"Are you happy now?"

Cale was glad, he felt full and tired nonetheless he couldn't get his sleep yet. Fredo was again readjusting the baby and laid Cale a bit over White Star's shoulder.

"What now?"

"Pat his back so Cale makes a little burp, it is important for his digestion and you need to do that every time he drinks his bottle empty."

The White Star was a bit confused but did as Fredo told him. Cale weighed like nothing. The White Star was a bit afraid he would touch too rough.

'Why does it even bother me? It doesn't matter if this thing dies or not.'

Despite that, what came out of Cale's mouth was not something the White Star expected.

Blurrrrr…

Cale puked on White Star's clothes.

"Oh, that can happen if the baby drinks too fast…again congratulations on becoming a father!"

Right now the baby wasn't cute for the White Star at all.

"What the f-"

Notes:

I have nephews and one always puked on me when I was done feeding him, it was gross so I make the White Star experience the same

Also not White Star doing the meme: why are you so smol? Why are you so smol? Why so tiny?

Chapter Text

White Star was done cleaning himself up, getting new clothes, and was now returning to his office where Sayeru, Dorph, Fredo, and the….puke beast would be waiting.

He was thinking if he really should just kill the baby or give it over to Fredo so the White Star could watch Cale from afar however he couldn't get rid of one picture in his mind and that was how Cale happily drank his bottle of milk while waving his arms and legs around. How his tiny hands grabbed the bottle sometimes as if he wanted to hold it by himself.

It was adorable so adorable the White Star would give up his pride and let things like puking on him happen.

He was right standing before his office door and let out a sigh.

'Guess I am going to pretend to be his father.'

White Star would just do the necessary things, he wouldn't give the thing his love which he couldn't do anyway. He would just feed it and put it in his crib or whatever else but Cale would never receive his love. White Star only took him because his time was warped

He opened the door and was ready for whatever would come next.

"Welcome back, your majesty."

The first thing White Star saw was Fredo next to Cale's crib since Fredo took Cale and said he would clean him. The White Star expected that Cale was now sleeping in the crib so he moved past Sayeru and Dorph and looked in the crib to confirm his theory.

What he could catch sight of was the baby trying to take up all the space in the crib.

"Making yourself comfy, hmmm?"

Being a baby seemed to be so hassle-free. There were so many problems in this world and Cale was sleeping soundly as if everything was fine as if he wasn't sleeping near his mother's murder.

'So chubby.'

The White Star had to pinch his cheeks lightly, they were so chubby. Luckily Cale didn't react much to it and continued sleeping.

"Duke Fredo, tell me everything I need to know to take care of this creature."

White Star was convinced he could take care of Cale. A baby couldn't need that much and he had allies, if he had no time then they had.

"Of course, first of all, you need to feed Cale every two to four hours. It can be the bottle of milk or this, he should be old enough."

What Fredo showed was a jar full of mush, he handed it over to his liege and gave a note.

"Everything you need to know about how to feed Cale is written on it and next…"

The next thing was made out of whitish fabric. It looked like odd and thick underwear for someone very small.

"What is this?"

"For the baby, of course, they can't go on their own and don't know when to pee or you know… so they wear diapers, you need to change them once they dirty it."

White Star raised his eyebrow. The baby couldn't do what? The red-haired man was thinking about reconsidering his decision about keeping the baby. He looked in the crib where Cale was sleeping peacefully. His head was almost buried by the blanket.

'Fuck.'

"Okay, anything else?"

Fredo walked to a big bag, opened it, and tossed everything on the ground.

"Many toys for the baby. He can grab it, chew on it, throw and roll it, anything. It is safe to play with the toys. Also here are some books, everything you need to know is written in this book. It's too much for me to go into all the details."

It was amazing for the White Star how the duke gathered all the stuff for the tiny creature in such a short amount of time.

Somehow it seemed funny to the White Star.

"You go all out when it comes to children, hmm?"

"Of course, I am a proud parent by myself, your majesty."

'Proud parent?'

The White Star never had a family, he didn't know how it felt to have caring parents or even have parents in the first place. Of course, he often saw families together, spending their time and playing jointly.

But just because he had a baby to care for didn't mean he would desire such events. He didn't have time for this anyway. There were many more important things to do.

His only goal was to become a god and he took this little creature because it could endanger him or maybe the White Star could use the baby for his benefit.

He would control the baby's destiny.

"Baaah."

A tiny and weird noise was heard, it was coming from the crib.

", Oh our little Cale is already awake."

___________________________________________________________

Cale felt so sleepy after he drank and puked the whole bottle, so sleepy he felt like he would never wake up again however he woke up faster than he thought.

Without noticing he also let out a noise coming from his mouth.

"Awake? Shouldn't you sleep for a few hours?"

What he saw was his supposed father, a man with red hair and a deep tired voice. Seeing his father made Cale automatically wiggle his arms around.

It was a weird feeling that built up in Cale. Even with his father there he felt lonely, he wanted to get picked up by his dad and continue sleeping in his arms.

'Come on, take me and love me as a father should."

Cale's arms were wiggling around and were so desperate to be held by the White Star that he could feel his eyes tearing up. It surprised Cale how much he wanted the attention of his father.

In his previous life, he had no memories of being a baby nor had he memories of his parents since they died early. Cale was raised by his uncle but he never received any love from him if he was annoying or just in his uncle's way. His uncle would beat him up.

Cale already knew that his father was probably not much different than his uncle, he could tell by the scary aura his father had and Cale was still trying to get his affection.

"Dabuuuuuu~."

"What? Stop waving your arms around and sleep more."

However, his father didn't seem to notice Cale's desire and continued watching him. Cale was ready to cry out loud again when he made his first sniffles, Cale heard a voice.

"Your majesty, don't be so cruel. Our little Cale wants to be held by you."

"Tsk, so stupid…"

Only then the White Star reacted to Cale's wiggling and little sniffle sounds and took Cale back into his arms. Immediately Cale grabbed White Star's cloak and rubbed his face deep in it.

At this action, the red-haired man sighed and shook his head.

"How should I work when this thing always wants to be in my arms?"

Fredo came from behind and looked at this father-son-duo.

"Isn't it cute? For Cale, you are his and only world, your majesty."

"This thing is making a big mistake."

Sayeru looked above White Star's shoulder and walked right before him.

"Barrow, I can hold him for you if he is in your way."

The bear king stretched his arms out to show he was ready to hold Cale. Cale who heard Sayeru's words was just looking at him for a short time then looked at his father.

'This guy is scary…I don't want to be held by him.'

As a baby it seemed like Cale's emotions was sensitive and unstable, the aura of his father was already scarring him but the brown-haired man was even scarier so he clung more to White Star's robe.

White Star couldn't read from Cale's expression and action that he wanted to stay in his arms so without trouble the White Star handed Cale over to Sayeru.

Sayeru with the most care tried to hold the baby so it won't hurt him in any way. To be honest he thought Cale weighed much more but to his surprise, Cale was light and easy to carry. Sayeru wouldn't mind holding Cale more often.

What he didn't know was that Cale's tears slowly began to flow and was ready to cry as loud as he could. Again it all began with quiet sniffle sounds.

"Huh."

Sayeru had a great hearing ability and noticed the little cry sound before he could react more.

"WAAAAAAAAH!"

"What? Why is he crying again?"

It was unbelievable how often Cale could cry in just one day even for Cale it was exhausting to cry again however he could do nothing about it. Cale could feel how scared he was and how much he wanted back to his father.

Cale couldn't see the White Star so his thoughts were filled with anxiety and thinking how his father was gone forever, even when the White Star was just behind him. Again he began to wiggle and wave his arms and legs around.

Wiggling so hard that he slapped Sayeru multiple times, in a weird way it hurt the bear king.

"Sayeru, give little Cale back to his majesty."

Luckily Fredo was still here, ready to help and save the day. Before the bear king could do a move, the White Star already took Cale away from him.

Cale still cried but much quieter and his head again found its way to bury inside White Star's robe, his big eyes looking at the White Star.

"I forgot to say, babies in this age often have separation anxiety."

...

...

"How exhausting."

Chapter Text

The White Star was sitting next to his desk sorting and signing his documents. Even as a Villain the White Star had bureaucratic tasks.

Most would not believe it however the White Star was more often in his office than fighting outside the world and killing people. Most of the dirty work was done by his underlings.

"Daaaaaaah."

Of course, the baby was in his lap sitting and watching him doing his work while trying to grab the paper or pen.

Especially the pen since it was shining gold with diamonds decorating it. Cale already decided that when he would slowly grow up, he would steal anything shiny and later run away to have a peaceful and rich life.

Stealing this pen was his first goal. Well…it was more like trying to get his father to give him the pen.

Cale acted all cute just to get this pen.

"Babaaaa duuuu."

He made cute noises, his tiny arms were stretched out, his hand wide open and his little legs wiggling around. Cale also looked up to his father then made tiny thumps on the table and again looked at his father who didn't react at all.

'Look at your child, stupid bastard!'

Seeing how his father didn't react at all, made Cale feel sad he wanted his attention and this golden pen. He looked up to the White Star once more and something got Cale's attention...

Something red dangling above his head perfectly for Cale to grab and pull on it.

Cale reached out and tugged as hard as he could.

"Ouch…..you little beast!"

What Cale grabbed was White Star's long red hair, after pulling on it his father finally looked at him with an annoyed face.

Cale was a bit scared but still acted all adorable and stretched his hands to the pen again.

"Daaaa."

"I won't give you my pen."

With those words, his father continued his work.

'This asshole.'

However, it was not enough for Cale to give up. He tugged White Star's hair again if Cale kept being annoying his father had to give up.

"Little brat!"

This time the White Star was angry, he was about to hurt Cale but then he saw Cale's teary and round face.

"Haaaaa…"

It made the White Star sigh.

He stood up with Cale and went to the bag which should be filled with toys. The White Star grabbed just a random thing and gave it to Cale.

It was a small colorful ball.

"Happy?"

That was not what Cale wanted, this ball won't be worth anything so in response, he let the ball fall to the ground.

"Are kidding me?"

Once more the White Star took a random toy out of the bag, this time it was a rattle which was also immediately thrown on the ground.

"...."

White Star looked at Cale who was once again trying to grab his long red hair. It seemed like Cale was now more interested to play with his hair than with his toy. The White Star couldn't allow Cale to do this either. His hair nor his pen was a plaything.

So he decided to pour all the toys out of the bag, there had to be one toy that Cale would be interested in. Everything fell to the ground and his office looked more like a children's room.

Yet the White Star could care less. He couldn't get his work done if this thing in his arm kept being annoying.

"Now choose."

The White Star watched how Cale's attention changed from his hair to the toys and….

"Daaaa!"

Cale extended his arms out again, his tiny hands trying to grab something that was too far away from him; however, the White Star could tell what Cale wanted.

"Do you want this?"

He took a bunny plush from the stack of toys out. The bunny had really big ears, bigger than a normal bunny would have, its fur was fully white and the eyes and paws had little rubies.

Cale embraced the bunny in his arms. The bunny was double the size of Cale. The stuffed animal almost covered Cale completely.

It was an adorable sight.

The White Star patted Cale's big head and went back with him to his desk. White Star still feared that Cale would start crying if he wasn't in his arms.

It was uncomfortable for him to now sit with a baby and a big bunny plush in his arms however it was doable. Something like this won't stop the White Star from finishing his work.

He was about to start his work but suddenly he heard a knock.

"Come in."

Who came in was the priest Gersey.

"Your majesty, I have an important matter to-."

Immediately Gersey started talking. He knew how his liege hated to talk around the brush, so he wanted to state the problem as fast as possible.

However, he couldn't finish his sentence. The sight he saw was just too astonishing.

His liege was as usual sitting in his huge chair. What was different though was a big white bunny plush and sometimes small movements behind the plush. He could see a little bit of red hair and small fingers.

Also his liege's office was filled with toys lying random around on the floor, the big pink crib didn't make things better.

"What's the matter?"

The White Star was quite impatient. He finally could calm Cale down and now Gersey was here but not finishing his reason for coming. Things already got out of control because of this tiny creature, White Star wanted some back of his normal routine.

Gersey didn't seem to hear White Star's question, he just kept staring at the bunny and try to find out what was behind it.

"Stop staring and spit it out. What do you want?"

Just now Gersey came back to reality.

"I am sorry, my liege but…what is this about this stuffed animal in your arm?"

Of course, Gersey couldn't ignore it and had to ask his liege about it. It was so weird and out of place.

"This belongs to my son."

"Your son?!"

The priest was shocked. the White Star had a son? He never heard about that. Just when he wanted to ask more, a head with big eyes popped out behind the bunny's head.

He saw a baby. A baby who looked exactly like his liege just in a tiny and cute version.

"Yes, my son, Cale."

"Yes, your son…"

Gersey had to process the new information. He heard many shocking things from the White Star yet this topped anything he ever heard. His eyes won't stop fixing on the baby who was cuddling the plush and sitting on White Star's lap.

His liege also watched the baby, the small smile that formed on his face and how he patted the child couldn't escape the eyes of the priest.

He took a full picture of the scene that was playing before him. Never did he think he would see something this adorable.

Of course, the White Star noticed Gersey's stare.

"You don't need to know more. Now tell me what the problem is."

White Star was annoyed, he wanted to get done this quickly yet his underling kept staring at him and the tiny creature.

He used his fearful aura on the priest to tell him how angry he was. Gersey didn't waste more time and continued to talk.

"I- I am sorry, it's about those who want to become nobles. They want a mission from you to prove their worth, your majesty."

He even stuttered a bit.

"Tell them there is none and if they keep being impatient, they can meet my sword."

With those words that Cale heard, he began to cuddle his bunny more and took one of the rubies into his mouth and nibbled it.

'I will make sure to escape. I don't want to live in a place full of blood.'

His father was scary and it was surprising how he was still gentle to Cale…gentle not like a father but still gentle, he didn't hurt Cale in any way yet.

Cale wanted to nibble the ruby more but a hand got between him and the ruby, naturally, it was his father's hand. In a whisper tone, he spoke to Cale, expecting Cale to understand his words.

"Stop eating that."

Tears again began to flow from his eyes but instead of crying, Cale bit his father's hand since he had no teeth it didn't hurt the White Star at all however this action confused him.

"It attacked me…"

Gersey was still here and watched the scene before him, he was in awe. He wondered if he would be able to see the White Star acting like a father more often.

"What are you still doing here? Leave."

As commanded Gersey would leave but he had to ask a silly question.

"Before that…your majesty, can I hold his highness one time?"

Highness…

He was referencing the baby as a prince, it did make sense since his father was a king but Cale didn't like this word. Being a prince and the only child of a kind meant he would be the next heir.

Cale had no intention to be a prince or king; both roles were in his way to have his life as a slacker.

"You are not here to ask stupid questions, now go."

As expected his request was denied, as he made his first stop towards the door, Gersey heard the White Star once more however the White Star didn't say a word this time.

"Ouch."

It was an expression to show he was in pain, immediately Gersey turned around to see how the baby tugged his liege's red long hair.

"Gersey, bring a scissor. I will cut my hair."

"Of course, your majesty."

The priest made one bow and went outside to fulfill his liege's request.

Even when the baby was cute, being a parent was a pain.

Chapter Text

It was getting late in Endable kingdom, the White Star was still sitting on his desk writing his documents with his hair now shortened to a considerable degree.

The entire day, White Star was busy with all the paperwork, feeding, and taking care of Cale. He felt more tired than ever that he felt he might fall asleep, which wasn't possible because of the curse.

"Haaah…"

White Star sighed and looked down at Cale who was sleeping soundly. The bunny plush was placed on the White Star's desk.

Besides the hair tugging and crying for the pen, Cale behaved.

In the thousand years White star had lived, he saw other babies. The little beast cried constantly and threw their fist in every direction. It was hard for the White Star to understand why others wanted children.

But now…

He kinda could understand it.

A little creature like Cale was fascinating. It made weird high noises, tried to touch everything before its eyes, and even tried to eat things that weren't edible. Then dozing off while sitting in the White Star's lap.

It was amazing how a baby could be satisfied with tiny things.

"Waa…"

Yawning was heard from Cale. He woke up from a dream full of gold. The horrifying part; his father was also with him.

"Had a good sleep?"

Cale looked up at his father who was talking to him. His father always had such a tired voice. Nevertheless, he put his arms up in the air, trying to reach his father's face.

"Haa, what do you want?"

The White Star took Cale gently as possible and seated him on the desk, he moved his chair closer to the desk so Cale was able to touch his face.

Cale's father constantly asked Cale what he wanted; however, he actually knew what the baby wished for. The White Star was good at reading Cale.

Tiny hands touched every corner of White Star's face. It was still unbelievable for him how small Cale was. Such a small body but a huge head.

If White Star touched Cale's face with his hand, he could cover his entire face which White Star did right now.

He wanted to remove his hand but Cale held into it and took his hand and began to nibble it.

"Are you hungry?"

It's been a while since Cale had his last meal. However, thinking about how it went last time…

'Maybe I should call Sayeru…'

As lovely as Cale looked with the bottle, the White Star didn't want to have puke all over him again yet Cale might cry in Sayeru's arms.

Suddenly, he remembered the mush Fredo showed him. An alternative to feeding Cale.

"It's worth trying."

Cale was still sitting on the desk while White Star was gone, so he searched for the golden pen, but he couldn't find it. The pen wasn't on the desk.

'Did he put it away knowing I will try to find it?'

He hated how his father thought of everything. People would say that the White Star was a caring father.

The door opened showing Cale's father, he had a spoon in his hand on the other was a jar. Looking at the spoon twice, Cale noticed it was made entirely out of gold.

"Awuuu."

Immediately, Cale put his arms up. He wanted the spoon.

"Yes yes, I am coming."

Back in his seat, the White Star opened the jar with the mush in it. It didn't look delicious.

"You really want this?"

The only answer he got was Cale still holding his arms in the air. What an impatient baby.

"Alright."

He took a full spoon of mush and moved it slowly and carefully to Cale, hoping not to spill. When the spoon was near Cale he opened his mouth in reflex, however, the White Star halted.

He didn't know why, but he found it so weird how the baby knew food was coming. This thing knew nothing of this world; the food could be poisoned yet it opened its mouth.

Cale noticed the food was not coming so he closed his mouth.

"Awaaa…"

He made a sad little noise.

Immediately, the White Star shoved the spoon in Cale's mouth.

"Don't make such noise again."

It was dangerously adorable that it made White Star think to tease the baby.

The spoon was way too full and most of the mush spilled on Cale's face and clothes however Cale didn't mind as it seemed, he ate what got inside his mouth.

Then he put his hand in the spilled mush and spread it on the whole table. Luckily none of the paperwork was damaged.

"...how nasty."

The White Star was pondering which was better; getting puked on or having all the food on the baby and table. None of them were pleasant.

He continued feeding Cale and made more of a mess on his desk till the glass was empty.

Everything was full of food, not only Cale and the table but also the White Star, the chair, and the floor just because Cale wanted to not only eat but also play.

For Cale, it was somehow exciting to play with it. He blamed it on the body he was in, still, it had been a long time since he was so excited.

"Urg…"

However, his father didn't like it as much as Cale liked it. The White Star had a deep frown on his face.

"We need to clean this up."

'We?'

Cale wondered who his father was referring to.

"Wah!"

The White Star took Cale in one hand and carried him like a bag full of trash. Strangely, it was comfortable so it didn't make Cale cry out.

"We both need a bath now."

Those words were terrifying for Cale.

'Is he going to drown me?'

Whatever it would be, Cale had to accept his fate.

"Perfekt."

Said Fredo after he put his hand into the water to check the temperature of the bathtub.

"Why are you here?"

White Star ground his teeth. Hedidn't plan for Fredo to visit and even less to help with the bathwater.

But now, he was standing without clothes and with Cale in his arm right next to Fredo who was fully clothed. The White Star didn't know why, but he felt uncomfortable.

"I heard you are taking a bath with his little highness, your majesty."

"And?"

"Baby needs a certain temperature."

The White Star raised his eyebrow. Was it that important and even so his servant would know?

"Are you saying my servants are incompetent?"

"When it comes to babies, yes, your majesty."

White Star frowned, yet he couldn't deny the fact.

"And I must say, it was worth coming. I like the view."

Fredo broke eye contact and moved his eyes somewhere else. The White Star didn't want to know what he meant. He raised his voice and pointed towards the door.

"Get out!"

The duke just bowed, unimpressed by the raised voice of his liege.

"Yes, your majesty."

Finally, after the door was closed, the White Star was left alone. Well, Cale was still there, but that was fine.

"Now, time to get cleaned."

White Star was about to enter, but he suddenly felt the warmth of the water.

"What?"

His curse had many effects, one of them was not to feel any warmth anymore yet he could feel the heat coming from the water.

Was it because of the baby?

He looked at Cale who seemed to have a confused expression for a short time and later put him down on the cold floor.

'Is this bastard bathing alone?!'

Cale couldn't read his father's mind, however, he didn't want to sit on the cold floor while watching his father enjoying his bath.

So he began to cry like a baby would and it was easy to make tears flow.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Cale cried his voice out as much he could yet his father was busy checking the temperature again this time with his hand when his hand reached the water, the White Star scoffed.

"Ha! This creature is interesting."

The warmth he felt not long ago was gone. He took the crying Cale and once again he could feel the heat.

"Interesting, really interesting but also dangerous."

This little thing who was now tugging his nails into White Star's skin was treacherous.

'I will take great care of you, I can't let you die. There are many things I need to find out.'

White Star grinned, it scared Cale.

"Time for our bath, my son."

Cale didn't like those words, would he really drown his own son?

Closing his big eyes, Cale soon could feel the warm water and after a minute he still could breathe and realized he was sitting between his father's arms and legs...

He opened his eyes again to see his small floating legs. Cale didn't know why but he couldn't stop looking at the water that was sparkling because of the light. He then started to try grabbing the little sparkles.

Cale knew he couldn't grab them yet his mind wanted to touch them.

It didn't take long for Cale to begin to splash the water and make small waves since his little hands couldn't do more than this.

The White Star shook his head.

"Why are you like this?"

Yet again, White Star found the baby adorable.

They took a longer bath than expected. White Star was a person to quickly end a bath session, however, this time wasn't the case.

Hair still damp, White Star was standing before a bed with Cale in his arms. It was now normal for him to carry the small creature around.

The White Star wanted to try something once more.

The White Star would normally return to his office and put Cale in his grip but now that he knew Cale affected the curse, the White Star thought he might be able to sleep again after over a thousand years.

He sacrificed his sleep and many more for his goal. Still, the White Star desired to sleep again and he was extremely tired.

Without words he walked to the bed and laid down, not letting go of Cale once. He tugged him and the baby deep into the blanket and embraced Cale.

Cale's big head was right in front of the White Star's face. His father could smell and feel his hair. The odor was pleasant, the baby's hair felt soft and tickled his nose a bit.

The bed was comfy and warm, everything was so different from what he used to know.

He wanted to explore those new things more; however, without noticing, the White Star fell into a deep slumber.

His first rest after a thousand years.

Chapter Text

"Remember you are a Barrow."

Cale Barrow, known as White Star in the future, looked at the person who said it to him.

The man had no face and was much bigger than the White Star.

'Ah, this must be a dream about my past. Then this must be my father.'

The White Star seemed to be as big as a child. It had been a thousand years since he saw his parents, so he couldn't remember what they looked like.

After he received the curse, they died immediately since he adored his parents, especially his father.

It was just a dream, but the White Star couldn't hold back and reached for his father's hand. It would be a lie to say he didn't miss him.

"Yes I know, father."

The White Star had the feeling his father smiled at him after answering. Soon, he could feel a hand placed on his head and soon it ruffled his hair.

It was just a dream yet White Star could feel the warmth from his father's hand.

"We are only humans but we are capable of getting stronger than dragons. Cale… I wish for you to become even stronger than all dragon slayers together."

Yes, White Star remembered how proud his father was of him because the White Star was so strong at such a young age.

"I will."

He knew he was already stronger than all of them together but still not strong enough. He needed to become stronger.

"Yes…"

His father continued speaking. The tone of his voice changed.

"With your strength, you can become stronger than god. Cale, you can become a god."

His father's voice sounded so deep and full of desire but it didn't impact the White Star since his desire to become god was far greater.

The White Star was so close to reaching his dream. He would make his father proud and receive his love and maybe his mother wouldn't be afraid of him anymore.

"Cale…"

Just as he was thinking of his mother, he heard her voice. He turned his head around where he heard her calling his name. Her voice was tinged with fear as she continued to talk with also no face.

"Why? I just wanted you to have a good life."

She embraced the White Star so weakly that the White Star didn't want to return the hug. He might crush her if he did.

His mother was shaking and soon the White Star could feel his clothes getting wet, when he locked the White Star was drained of blood.

He looked at his mother with no emotions, it was a dream after all, and whatever was before he was not his mother.

"Why did you sacrifice us? Why did you sacrifice yourself just to get stronger?"

The White Star turned around to see his father bleeding as well. With his cold voice, he answered his mother.

"I didn't sacrifice myself."

"Why?"

It was getting annoying however he soon noticed something else.

'Why does it feel so real? As if I am really wet?"

He could smell an unpleasant odor and the White Star remembered the smell.

'As if the baby pooped in his diaper.'

With this thought, he woke up.

Still hugging the little creature which was still sleeping. The baby's and the White Star's clothes were slobbery, Cale must have drooled a lot while sleeping and the smell…it stank disgusting."

The White Star began to carry Cale like a garbage bag; he didn't care if the baby liked what his father was doing and if it hated being woken up like this.

That thing needed to be cleaned… again.

___________________________

Days passed quickly, and it never was as tiring as before.

Being a father was certainly not easy. The baby needed so much attention and the White Star did not always know what the baby wanted so Cale sometimes screamed for hours, and even Fredo couldn't do anything.

Cale also didn't want to be held by someone else. If Sayeru or Dorph held him, he immediately cried so the White Star was forced as a father to take care of him.

He lost count of how often he was puked, peed, or drooled on. The White Star also thought his hearing got worse.

It was so exhausting yet he couldn't kill that tiny thing.

At least Fredo gave him a hint on how to work without holding Cale all the time.

Just lay him on a blanket on the floor where Cale could see the White Star and put some toys around.

It helped. Cale watched quietly his father, and sometimes he would cry like always but it was inevitable.

Like right now, White Star was working on his documents and watched Cale from afar. He didn't look after Cale for a while since the baby was quiet and the White Star thought he might have fallen asleep.

However, when the White Star looked, Cale was gone. The White Star immediately jumped from his chair.

"Where?"

No one came in, and it was impossible for someone to have used magic to kidnap his son. He would have noticed. Cale couldn't move on his own, all he could do was sit but only when you helped him or Cale could turn himself around and lay on his stomach.

White Star could feel his panic rising.

When he wanted to take a step, something bumped into his leg.

"Baaa."

It was Cale; he moved all the way to his father.

As Kim Rok Soo, he grew up without parents. Maybe that was why he craved his father's attention so much.

"Did it crawl? That tiny thing can crawl now?"

The White Star looked at Cale with curiosity. It would make sense that Cale would learn how to move on its own; however, the White Star didn't know he would crawl first and not walk.

Cale sat himself up and lifted his arms, asking for uppies.

"Tsk, it hasn't been a long time since I found a way to get rid of you."

The White Star clicked his tongue multiple times and looked away till he gave up and took Cale in his arms. Cale responded by burying his head in his chest.

Cale recently became much more cuddly. It may be because White Star always took him to his bed. It couldn't be helped; it was the only way to get sleep.

Surprisingly, Cale slept a lot since Fredo said babies usually wake their parents up early in the mornings but Cale clung to his father and often vanished under the blanket.

When it happened the first time, the White Star also thought someone stole his baby, just to later find Cale under the blanket yet there were times when Cale was gone. The culprit was none other than Fredo who was standing right in front of the White Star's bed.

Shamelessly, the duke admitted trying to steal his son for the reason that he was just too cute. Sometimes, Fredo even ran away without saying anything after the White Star noticed him trying to steal Cale again.

Fredo wouldn't come far though.

The duke became silly recently, saying he could become Cale’s second dad since the White Star was so busy. The audacity to even ask. White Star was thinking of killing him, but the duke was too useful.

Anyway, the White Star needed to think how to rearrange his office now that Cale could crawl.

"There is too much you can destroy with your drooling."

Many of his important documents were scattered around the room. There was also some stuff lying around, which was too dangerous for the baby.

White Star sighed and spoke to Cale while feeling the drool on his clothes.

"You are so much trouble."

Chapter Text

Everything was now safe for Cale and from Cale.

It took hours to rearrange the office, so many documents were laying around and even some weapons. It made White Star realize he should tidy his room more often.

Documents about important matters were forgotten somewhere and some were even stuck between the piles of papers. It would have been terrible if Cale drooled on it.

Still, White Star couldn't work as effectively as before anymore. Cale could still make chaos in the office.

Everytime the White Star couldn't hear any taps anymore that Cale made while crawling, he had to look at what his son was doing.

The White Star preferred it when it was quiet, but now that Cale was here, it changed. When he couldn't hear Cale’s blabbers or taps, White Star could feel his panic rising to the maximum level, only to see how his son sat down and was biting one of his toys.

His biting on random things became more frequent. Cale would do everything that he could to bite and nibble on it for minutes. It didn't matter what it was made of.

White Star had to remove Cale from the table leg or chair so often because he chewed on it. While he was separating Cale and the table leg, Cale would then take White Star's hand in his mouth.

Cale also cried more and White Star had problems calming him down. It didn't take long till he asked Duke Fredo.

It seemed like Cale’s first teeth were growing and Cale reacted by biting and chewing. There would be times when the growing hurts and Cale would cry. In such moments, White Star couldn't do much about it.

Right now, Cale was quiet; he didn't cry. White Star began to appreciate those moments since Cale’s crying was loud and it hurt his ears.

While White Star was writing, someone entered the room.

It was Gersey.

_____________________________

Cale was bored.

He was glad that learned how to crawl. He could examine the room and look for some goodies to sell later when he got older, but all he found were his worthless toys or paper his father forgot to put away.

His father's office had nothing valuable beside his pen and spoon Cale was fed with.

Most of the time, Cale would spend his time in the office. He then only saw two other rooms of the supposed palace.

He saw the bathroom where he often bathed with his father and his father's bedroom where his father cuddled him which was pretty comfy and warm. However, that's it. He didn't seemore.

Cale didn't have his own bedroom or child's room with his own nanny. He read many books and it always described how much royalty had yet his father was around him every second and even changed his diaper.

Perhaps the country he lived in was so poor that even their king couldn't live in luxury.

One more reason to run away.

"Excuse me, your majesty."

Right now someone came into the office. It was that weird man days ago where he wanted to hold Cale but was rejected.

Gersey looked at Cale for a short time. It seemed like he wanted to give him a hug but decided against doing so.

"There is an important message from the Mogoru Empire."

Cale didn't listen longer to his words after he noticed the door was still open.

It was Cale's chance to see more of the palace.

Without further thinking, Cale crawled out of the office soon after he was in the hall, and the door was closed.

However, Cale didn't think much of it and continued his crawling.

Soon he noticed how huge the hall was. He was always carried by his father so Cale never noticed. Even while looking up, Cale couldn't see the ceiling.

Was this place really this huge or was he just that small?

Cale speeded up his crawling. The carpet beneath him was luckily soft so he didn't hurt his knees. He had to use more energy to crawl faster, and it was exhausting.

After some time, Cale looked behind him to see how far he got. He sat himself up and looked at the office's door which looked far away.

That was when Cale was hit by anxiety. He realized his father was not by his side and he was all alone. The floor was also cold and not heated like the office.

As Kim Rok Soo, he wouldn't be scared like this since he was now a baby, his emotions were unstable and he hated when he was left alone.

'This damn body.'

Cale knew; he couldn't hold his tears and voice any longer back and began to cry.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

He was about to crawl to the door and slam his tiny hands against it while crying. That was his plan, but Cale stopped when he heard an unfamiliar voice.

"What is this?"

It kinda calmed down Cale a bit. The voice sounded tired like his father's, so Cale only made little crying noises while turning to the person who was behind him.

"Hmmm?"

The person kneeled down to Cale and looked with curious eyes. The man had black long hair and black eyes; both hair and eyes seemed lifeless. They had no shine and his hair was a mess.

His clothes were ripped in multiple places and dirty. The person looked out of place. Was he really allowed to enter the palace?

Cale sat still and didn't move a bit. He was still scared of the man yet he also a had a warm aura. He didn't look like a bad person.

Then Cale noticed the huge black and round thing in his hands. It had the form of an egg; maybe it was one.

Immediately, Cale got curious and crawled closer to what looked like an egg. The man just watched him and let him touch the egg.

"Interesting, right?"

Cale looked at him; he saw a light smile.

When Cale looked back at the egg, the egg made a little shake.

"It reacted to you!"

Suddenly, there was a loud sound and the next thing Cale heard was his father screaming after him.

"Cale! What are you doing?!"

Right after those words, Cale was back in his father’s arms. He cried after noticing his father, he wanted to be comforted and patted.

White Star frowned at this reaction.

"What did you do? And why do you have the dragon egg with you? I told you to destroy it."

"I am sorry, my liege. I was about to but it reacted at the child."

The man looked troubled and began to shake his head. He couldn't look in the White Star's eyes.

He was afraid to ask, but he still did. The person also had a question and couldn't wait for his liege's answer.

"Who is that child?"

White Star just scoffed. He made eye contact with Cale and then looked at the man again.

"It's my son, Cale. Interesting, so the egg reacted at him. Hmmm…"

The man spoke in a quiet tone.

"He is my little brother?"

Cale could hear his words and also the White Star’s; one was in shock while the other one ignored his words.

'This beaten up person is my brother?'

Would Cale also end up like him if he stayed? Right now, he was treated with affection but that could change if Cale was useless to him.

"Hmm… One that could become a dragon, and the other who can tame a dragon."

White Star was interested.

It still felt wrong to him. Sending Cale into the frontlines when he got older? He also had no problem to torture this dragon half-blood in front of him when he was a child.

Maybe it would change since Cale was even tinier than him back then.

'It won't hurt to give him a dragon. It doesn't matter if it's for protection or fighting.'

The White Star decided.

"Half-blood, give me the egg. I will keep it near my son."

Cale watched how the person that seemed to be only called half-blood gave the egg. Right after, he looked at Cale with a smile and his eyes looked sad yet relieved.

"My liege… Can I hold him?"

The Half-Blood first was worried that this small baby would end up like him, but looking closely, he looked exactly like his liege.

Not only that, he never received as much affection as Cale received. The half-blood was never held or hugged by him and he knew he only could call his liege father because it would make things easier with a connection.

This baby was his liege’s real son and he himself was just someone who was bought with one gold coin.

Suddenly, while having those thoughts, the atmosphere changed. The Half-blood had trouble breathing, and a murderous aura was directly sent to him.

His liege was angry.

"You still didn't tell me the reason why Cale cried."

Cale? That was his brother's name.

'I am glad… He even received a name.'

His little brother and maybe the only one he could call family, was loved.

Others would expect him to be mad but how could he? His brother was so small and adorable. Those chubby pink cheeks and huge glittering eyes.

The Half-Blood always wanted a brother or sister and finally, after 900 years, his wish was fulfilled.

"Did you make him cry?"

The aura became stronger yet even when the Half-blood was scared of his liege, it didn't feel that strong. It must be because of Cale.

He wanted to open his mouth to somehow explain the situation when all of the sudden, the aura vanished.

"Habaaaaa."

The baby babbles were heard and he stretched out to the Half-blood.

Was he trying to protect him?

His eyes widened while Cale was still trying to reach for him.

The Half-blood wanted to take Cale as seemed to be desperate to be held by him, but the White Star's hand got between them.

"Tsk."

He clicked his tongue while looking at his son who took the opportunity to nibble on his hand.

"Nevermind, go back from where you came from."

Without waiting for an answer, the White Star turned around and walked towards the office.

The Half-blood was watching him till he closed the door and couldn't be seen.

He took his hand that he wanted to reach out for Cale and put it on his chest.

"Cale, my little brother…"

On this day, the Half-blood swore to protect his brother from any danger and kill those who were a threat to Cale.

Chapter Text

Right now, White Star was counting some gold coins. Everytime he let a coin fall you could hear the sound of coins hitting each other.

This should be the only sound heard in the office… However.

Cling!

"Gngheheheheheheh."

Cling!

"Gnnhihihihihihehee!"

Cale was laughing every time he heard the coins hitting each other and with each sound it seemed like his laughter got louder and longer.

"Just what is so funny about it?"

It was the first time Cale ever laughed so much.

There were times where Cale also laughed but with almost no sound and the duration was very short. Cale always laughed a little when someone mentions White Star's name.

But now the baby was laughing so much, the White Star was worried he might suffocate. Each time White Star stopped counting coins for a while, Cale would calm down, but after starting once more his son would laugh again like before.

The White Star sighed and ran his hands through his short hair. He never took so long only counting coins and it was all thanks to the little creature.

Cling!

"Ggnghehehehe!"

White Star had to sigh again, no way he could concentrate like this.

He stopped. He looked at Cale and Cale looked at him. His son had an expression as if he was waiting for the White Star to continue.

Silence took over till Cale began to crawl towards the White Star.

'Oh no.'

This was the only thing White Star could think of. Hearing Cale's little taps and then he was right in front of White Star's chair.

His face lit up for some reason and his arms stretched out. The White Star thought he wanted to be on White Star's lap but suddenly…

"G-gold!"

"Huh?"

Did the White Star hear it right? No, this couldn't be. All Cale made were weird noises; he never formed a word.

"Gold!"

Again, this time the White Star heard it clearly. Cale really said ‘gold’.

Of course, Cale had to learn his first word someday, but so suddenly and also wasn't this a hard word to pronounce for a baby?

White Star was sure that the first word mostly would be ‘mama’ or ‘dada’. Since Cale didn't have a mother anymore, it should be ‘dada’.

So why is it ‘gold’?

He looked at Cale with a confused expression, however all that Cale did was say ‘gold’.

A piercing pain could be felt in White Star's chest and the feeling of sadness filled his heart. He didn't understand why.

'Is it because it doesn't say dada?'

Bewildered, the White Star stood up and kneeled before his son.

Cale climbed on White Star's leg and sat himself down, while doing this act he said ‘gold’ multiple times.

The baby lifted his head to see his father again; he still couldn't believe what was happening.

The White Star began to think if he should try to persuade his son to say dada. It was an easy word, it shouldn't take much to say it at least once.

"Gold! Gold! Gold! Gold!"

White Star shook his head and then began to try.

"Cale, try to say ‘dada’."

Cale only looked at him and then…

"Gold!"

His father let his head fall, however, he won't give up.

A baby might be dumb, but something like this should be easy for him.

"No, say dada."

He even lifted his finger as if it helped in this situation.

Silently Cale watched his father then switched his focus between his father's eyes and his finger.

"Come on, say it."

The White Star felt stupid. Never did he think he would take care of a baby let alone try to let the baby call him dada. Even the Half-blood wasn't allowed to say father after he got older.

Cale's focus began to switch again this time not between his father's finger or gaze but where the gold coins were laying.

"Gold!"

Why did the White Star have the feeling Cale did it on purpose, but he tried again.

"Say dada."

"Gold!"

"No…dada."

"Gold!"

"Da-da."

"Gold!"

"Not gold, say dada."

"No!"

Now the White Star had a shocked face.

"Did you just refuse?"

"Gold!"

White Star let out a sigh again, shook his head multiple times and questioned himself what he was doing.

Just why did it bother him so much that Cale didn't call him dada?

It didn't matter- it shouldn't matter to him yet it did.

"Dada, say it."

"Gold!"

That was his last string, the White Star gave up. No way he would continue this. He still had work and many documents to go through. He couldn't waste more time, the White Star already used too much time watching over Cale and listening to him laughing.

He lifted Cale from his lap and put him on the floor, he was sure Cale wanted to explore the office more.

The White Star stood up and made himself comfortable in his chair. It didn't take long till he heard the little crying noises from the baby below. He looked down to see Cale focusing on him with both of his arms up.

However, the White Star turned back to work. He shouldn't always give this child attention when he wants to.

Cale should learn how this world works and that you won't get everything. It was an important lesson but Cale didn't see it this way and began to cry louder.

What the White Star didn't expect was that Cale tried to climb the chair.

'That creature!'

Again White Star gave up, took Cale back on his lap and continued his work which didn't stay long that way.

"Gold!"

First White Star thought that Cale was only happy with how he learned a word but after Cale said it louder and louder and his arms tried to reach the gold coins, the White Star understood.

"Gold!"

The White Star pushed the gold coins away out of Cale's reach.

"No. They are needed for more important matters. They are not for you."

As if understanding his father's words, Cale began to cry which seemed to be the only thing he could do when angry, however what was new was that he didn't only cry but also chewed the edge of the table at the same time.

The sound was funny to hear yet White Star couldn't let this continue.

If Cale liked gold anything in golden color would satisfy him so he took out the golden spoon and gave it to Cale.

Cale immediately took the spoon and took it into his mouth.

"Of course you will bite it, haaaaa…"

The White Star was done, however he now could go back to his work.

Till suddenly a sound on the door was heard; a knock on the door. It soon opened showing a silver haired man, Fredo, who straight away smiled at the picture he saw before him. At once he forgot what he came for.

"I greet your majesty and your little highness."

He bowed gracefully only to drop the act after Cale looked at him.

Cale took the spoon out of his mouth and raised it high.

"Gold!"

Fredo was melted by his cuteness and in awe of how Cale learned his first word already. On the other side, the White Star wasn't happy at all.

The Duke was now much more often here; so often that Cale got used to him and allowed Fredo to hold him. White Star was satisfied how Cale only wanted to be held by him but that was now changed.

The vampire was someone useful and he had more privileges than others to enjoy but this was too much and Fredo also knew that however, chose to ignore it.

"Your highness! You learned your first word, how great! The spoon you are holding is your little treasure? You are too adorable."

The White Star gave him an unpleasant look. And made more distance between the duke and Cale.

"State your matter, Duke Fredo and then leave."

Fredo just smiled at those words. He really was fearless.

"Awww but his highness is happy to see me."

"But I am not."

Pretending to be hurt, Fredo put his hand before his chest while fakely wiping his own tears away with his other hand.

"As a fellow father, shouldn't we support each other, your majesty?"

"Tsk."

White Star was lost for words. He couldn't deny that he didn't need the support from Fredo as a father. It was a win for Fredo so he stayed.

However suddenly the peace that was restored was destroyed with Cale by stretching his arms out to Fredo and saying one word,

"Mama!"

Immediately, the temperature of the room rose, and Fredo felt a murderous aura towards him. It was so strong that he couldn't move nor speak even if he wouldn't be able to save himself.

Slowly, Cale was seated on the chair while the White Star stood up, and a shield was surrounding Cale.

A sword engulfed in flames was appearing.

White Star's face darkened and his eyes had a deadly shimmer. He never felt this angry.

"Fredo… We should talk outside."

Fredo only could accept his fate.

Chapter Text

"Mama!"

Cale was actually shocked about himself.

The urge to tease his father suddenly became strong. He knew he shouldn't since his father seemed to be a dangerous man after watching him for the past weeks.

His father didn't murder anyone in front of Cale, however his aura and way of speaking said he shouldn't anger this man, yet he did.

First refusing to say 'dada' and now calling Fredo 'mama'. Cale was afraid of his father, but still, he didn't regret any of his actions. Actually, it was amusing.

When Cale teased or just approached his father, his expressions would change. The stoic face would turn into a frown which looked funny to Cale or into a light smile.

As Kim Rok Soo, he wouldn't care much about others' expressions but it was different for his father.

Seeing his father's faint smile brought joy to Cale and his frown was so funny. When others saw him frown, they immediately threw themselves on the floor and asked for mercy but for Cale, it was hilarious.

First, Cale would feel fear, but then positive emotions would wash the negative emotions away.

Only because the so-called White Star, which was a stupid name, was his father?

Really, Cale couldn't understand.

After Cale's words, calling Fredo mama, he laughed a bit as his father stood up and sat Cale on the chair. However soon the laughter stopped. This time, his father was really angry. Not towards Cale, but towards Fredo.

The room suddenly turned dark, and for a short time, the temperature was freezing cold then it became hot as flames appeared.

A sword engulfed in flames was soon to be seen, something Cale never saw before. Suddenly, a shield appeared around him; he could guess it was for protection.

He could only see his father's back which seemed to be stronger and bigger than any mountain could be.

Cale could feel pure rage from his father. The feeling of bloodlust would soon come after.

'The fuck?! Only because I said mama?'

Wasn't his father overreacting? How could he become this angry?

His father's emotions seemed to be as unstable as Cale's own.

"Fredo… We should talk outside."

The murderous aura only became stronger after those words. Cale began to shake. Fuck, it was scaring him.

He could feel his blood run cold and his breaths became more hitched. Each second, it was harder for Cale to breathe. Even his tears couldn't flow out.

Cale felt dry. He couldn't cry nor scream, his ears also were deafened as Cale couldn't hear more sounds. This was a serious matter. His tiny body couldn't handle this rage and the strong aura.

He couldn't handle feeling and seeing this power in front of him. The flames and his father's sword, it was too much.

Even with the hot room, Cale felt cold.

His father didn't seem to notice; his focus was fully on Fredo.

Cough

Cale had to cough, but not because his throat was dry, no… But because blood came out of his mouth and it was a lot. It dripped down his chin and soaked his clothes.

More blood flowed down and Cale's vision began to turn blurry. He now knew it was all because of the power and aura Cale saw. The pressure was too strong and somehow affected his body.

It felt like he would soon be crushed into pieces.

Cale had to cough again.

The noise he made was little and actually should be drowned by the sounds of the flames, but Cale saw his father turn around.

His face was full of shock.

'Such a stupid father.'

Cale thought while he lost his consciousness. He shouldn't experience this as a baby.

Why did he have to suffer again?

______________________________

The White Star was about to drag the Duke out as he didn't move. He thought his face of shock was because of his sudden anger, but the White Star soon realized it wasn't because of that.

Cough

He could hear a very faint sound. It was so faint that the White Star could have overheard it easily and as he heard this little sound, he could feel his rage vanishing. It was replaced with a new feeling he hadn't felt hundreds of years ago.

It was panic.

His mind was screaming and was telling him to turn around. It was telling that something happened to Cale.

The White Star was thinking first.

'Did the flames hit him? Did I forget to put a shield around him?'

But he remembered he did, so why? Since he couldn't find an answer, the White Star just turned around. He had to look at Cale.

His eyes widened.

The shield was there and it was strong like it should be. It wasn't the problem.

His arms began to sink and the White Star let go of his sword. It soon vanished into thin air, leaving no trace behind.

First he made one step slowly, then he began to run. His mouth opened wide however no voice came out. He knew that screaming right now was unnecessary.

The White Star saw Cale covered in blood.

Immediately he fell to his knees next to the chair where Cale was laying, reaching his arms out to take his son in his embrace. He had to check on him.

Cale's blood was still warm however his body was cold and his breathing was almost gone. His heartbeat could be felt faintly. His son was still alive but for how long?

He began to shake. Tears began to flow as his panic rose. Never did the White Star feel like this.

The White Star had to calm down.

He needed to know why- no he needed a healer, a priest. He was sure portions wouldn't help.

His mouth opened to tell Fredo to get someone, anyone. He didn't know who. The White Star forgot every person that might be of help.

The White Star was ready to scream at Fredo but stopped.

Fredo just came back to the office and he wasn't alone.

With him was the priestess and holy maiden Cotton and priest Gersey and other healers. They soon surrounded the White Star.

White Star lifted his head and saw Cotton reaching her hands out, asking the White Star to give Cale to her. Without any further thinking, he handed him to her

His version clouded over, and his body was shaking from the inside. The White Star showed panic, a weakness; he shouldn't show more.

He watched them healing and looking after Cale. Hours had passed with a lot of running around, confusion and sweating and it was all because the White Star became angry.

Panic was soon replaced with guilt, a feeling White Star never thought he would have.

Soon, a peaceful sleeping Cale was handed over to the White Star.

His warmth returned, his breathing steadied and his heartbeat was back to normal. Even his tiny hand wrapped around the White Star's pinky finger.

White Star was so relieved.

He wanted to embrace his son but people were watching.

"Cotton, I believe you can explain to me Cale's condition."

She just nodded as White Star looked at the others, he didn't need to open his mouth and give them the command to leave. They bowed and left one by one besides Fredo and Gersey.

Gersey was actually also about to leave but was stopped by the White Star. He whispered in his ear.

"Kill the healers who were with us without a sound."

He couldn't trust those healers; he had to shut them up and this was the easiest way.

There was no more interaction needed and the priest left.

The White Star turned around to Duke Fredo.

"Why are you still here?"

Fredo just scoffed at White Star's comment. That bastard really should be taught a lesson.

"I was also a witness and I worried about the little highness."

"Whatever."

Cotton only watched the two. What she heard was enough to know who and whose baby it was. It didn't surprise her since the baby just looked like the White Star, but she never thought the White Star would find a woman he would love and have a baby with.

The White Star approached her with the baby still in his arms. She felt bad for the child; it got a terrible father.

"Now explain."

"First I need to know what happened."

White Star was silent, he was a bit embarrassed to explain what happened. He couldn't tell her that he got angry because his son called Fredo ‘mama’.

Cotton misunderstood the silence.

"I don't need any information about who the child is and who it belongs to. Also-"

The White Star interrrupted her.

"I used my ancient power in front of him."

He didn't want to hear that woman calling out the obvious; all he needed to know was what happened to his son, Cale.

She nodded, her focus turning to the sleeping baby.

"Now that explains it."

She still looked at Cale. The baby looked so adorable, round face and full cheeks and those tiny hands. Cotton had a soft spot for children. Oh, how much she wanted to take him away from this awful man.

Would he even understand when she explained? If so… Would the White Star get rid of the baby?

No matter what his reaction would be, Cotton had no choice but to tell him.

"His plate was about to break."

"What?"

White Star was shocked.

"The child's plate is small and fragile, just like glass or maybe like paper. Your ancient powers must have put a lot of pressure on the child."

She continued while the White Star stared at the baby.

"Babies are naturally weak. Your powers not only put much pressure on him… It also must have scared the child. The body was already weak, but if the mental state also weakens… You sure know the answer by yourself."

He knewknew how his son must be weak since he was so small, but he never would have thought that Cale was this weak.

If his plate was that fragile, then there was no way Cale could grow up into a strong person. And if the White Star grew more attached to him...

'A great weak point…'

A big risk that could destroy all of his plans.

Silence once more took over, and the White Star embraced Cale more tightly.

Should he kill him?

He remembered the scene that he saw some hours ago. He couldn’t bear to see it a second time. He wouldn't be able to comprehend if Cale ever stopped breathing.

'Shit.'

The White Star realized it was already too late. The weak point was deeply buried inside of him. He couldn't remove it.

He wanted to see Cale crawl around more, laugh for stupid reasons, and bite everything that was in reach of his mouth. The White Star wanted to see Cale grow up; he wanted to raise him.

His focus switched to the dragon egg that was in his office.

The dragon…

This thing shall protect his son when the White Star can't.

He then looked at Cotton and Fredo. Should he kill them too? They obviously realized as well that that White Star has a great weak point now.

However, he needed them in the future.

Suddenly an idea hit him. His lips twitched upwards to a smirk.

"We will make a vow of death."

Chapter 10: Vow of death

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Duke Fredo was surprised by White Star's words, but he didn't know what part he was surprised at. Was it because the White Star made up his mind to make a vow of death or because it came so late?

When Fredo heard about Cale the first time, he immediately knew that the baby became a weak spot of the White Star. If he didn't care about Cale, he would have never asked Fredo.

So it would make sense to protect that weak point with the vow of death, however Fredo suspected one thing; the White Star was not able to make one.

It didn't make sense why making a vow of death for a baby but not one with all his important allies so they couldn't betray him. Fredo saw the White Star as someone smart.

Was he wrong?

Just as Fredo was thinking the White Star opened his mouth.

"You will put your life on the line for my son and promise that you shall never betray or hurt Cale."

'Hmm?'

So it was true, the White Star couldn't make a vow. Well vowing for this tiny baby didn't sound bad. Cale was adorable and Fredo would make sure that Cale wouldn't listen to his father in the future.

How heartbreaking for the White Star.

"If you refuse to make that vow then I will kill you on spot."

White Star was cold as always without batting an eyelash; he would kill those who served him for years.

Fredo chuckled and approached the White Star, only because he was trying to take Cale in his arms but the White Star obviously read his intention and widened their distance.

With one more chuckle, the Duke answered,

"I will do it. How could I ever betray the little highness?"

Cale was the reason for Fredo to see such a new side of the so-called cold blooded White Star. Seeing him struggle with his son was really adorable.

"Watching you two is just too cute."

The White Star backed away more after those words, and his ears became a bit red. It seemed like the White Star was flustered from the duke's action.

Fredo would love to tease him more, but there are limits.

Cotton fake coughed while observing; the lovely aura wasn't ideal to her. It was so out of the ordinary that she didn't know what to do.

She decided just to agree with Fredo's words, of course only those about the vow.

"I will also make the vow."

She couldn't afford to die yet.

The White Star just looked at her, and soon after he also made a little fake cough. He was still embarrassed because of Fredo.

"Good. Then, let's get a priest of death."

One was needed since none of the four in the room had a connection to the god of death.

Cotton and Fredo just nodded.

________________________________

Cale, who was still sleeping in his father’s arms, White Star, Fredo, and Cotton were now in a pure white room, and not a single dust was to be seen.

Before them was a priest standing in a white robe. He had dark brown eyes and light pink hair; it was a unique look.

On a table between the priest and the others was a note saying that the priest can't hear and if it was a lie, he would die on the spot.

When it comes to the vow of death, there was no mercy not even for those who served the god of death.

Of course that wasn't all.

Those who make the vow shall raise their hand, once they were touched by god could begin once they are finished and ever tried to break the vow death shall await them.

No one had to read the note since they were already familiar with the rules.

It didn't take long till Cotton and Fredo raised their hands. The priest stretched his arms out and without any words dark fog swirled around them and only the White Star was not affected.

The fog gave a cold feeling saying that part of god of death was here.

Cale, who was sleeping peacefully, was woken up by the cold fog and without looking around, he began to scream and grabbed White Star's robe as hard as he could. Cale hated this.

The White Star couldn't stop Cale's crying. Even when he clung his arms tightly around his son, he didn't stop screaming.

The room was filled with crying noises, it made Cotton and Fredo look at the baby, the priest didn't even notice what was happening.

It continued till White Star had an idea, it was not a pleasant one. He took his hand and shuffled some fingers in Cale's mouth. Immediately, Cale began to chew on them happily, even holding with his tiny hands the hand of his father, indicating that he shouldn't remove them.

White Star sighed while looking at Cale. His son felt hot, it concerned the White Star. Cale's body never was so hot; he would get a doctor later.

'I shouldn't kill him like the others.'

Cale was weak. He needed healers and doctors.

White Star might as well try to find an ancient power that could heal Cale or make him stronger.

He nodded by himself.

Cotton and Fredo exchanged looks. In the end they stayed quiet and didn't comment on the scene before them.

Only after White Star began to look at them asking with his gaze what they were waiting for. Fredo shook his head, he couldn't take him seriously with his fingers in the mouth of a baby.

The baby even made little chewing noises.

Fredo had to hold his breath to not laugh.

'I am really going to steal him at this rate.'

He was always fond of kids, but now that Cale was here, he loved them even more.

With one deep breath, Fredo began to make his vow.

"I, Fredo von Ejellan, vow I shall never betray Cale von Barrow…pfft the s-second... If I ever have the intention to kill him, I will die on the spot."

In the end Cotton copied the words from Fredo. The only difference was that she didn't need to hold back her laugh. Sure, it was a weird name, however it was normal for some royal families to name their children like this even when it sounded stupid.

The dark fog vanished into Fredo, Cotton and Cale.

With this, the vow of death was done.

The White Star had a satisfied smile on his face and returned with Cale back to the palace.

Fredo followed them as if it was natural.

"We are done. Go away, Fredo von Ejellan!"

"No way."

________________________________

"His highness has a high fever."

A doctor said as he checked Cale who was lying in his crib, eyes closed and breathing heavily. His face was red like his own.

White Star already expected this to happen. After the last incident, he read many books about babies and their health. It wasn't weird to have a fever after a stressed situation.

Cale would be more often sick, and the book said it was important to build a proper immune system. Still, the White Star was worried.

His son slept all day and didn't even wake up once. The day before wasn't different. Besides waking up one time and eating nothing, Cale just slept.

This couldn't be a way to cure an illness.

White Star frowned.

"Is there a way to heal him immediately?"

The doctor shook his head.

"I am afraid not. There are medications to fasten the process, but that's all. Since the fever is so high, I suggest using the strongest one."

He didn't like the answer. Those things were just drugs and the White Star already tried to give Cale medicine that was recommended but his son would just spit it out and cry after trying to give him it again.

"Are there at least medications that don't taste so awful so my son won’t spit it out?"

The doctor smiled as he held back his laugh. He almost forgot who was standing before him. Never did he expect such a side from his liege. The White Star didn't look that scary anymore.

'Even the almighty ones aren't omniscient.'

"No, your majesty. The best medicine must taste bitter, but it's totally normal for his highness to not like it. He is a child after all."

White Star frowned.

"How should I feed it to my son then?"

'Aaah, being new to parenthood. Worried over so many things and only wanting his child to have the best life. So beautiful.'

"Mix it under his food or use force. Even a child has to learn that it can’t have everything go like they want."

The frown deepened.

"Use force?"

It was understandable for the doctor to receive such a reaction from his answer. No parent would like to force his child and looking at the tiny prince, it was even more understandable.

'He looks like a tomato.'

Cale was smaller than average and the position he was in right now made him look like a small ball. The bunny plush next to him looked even bigger than him right now.

"There are plenty of ways to give him the medicine, your majesty. Best way is to give him something sweet afterwards. I can assist you if you command."

The doctor hoped the White Star wouldn't ask for help yet on the other side, he wanted to see how his liege would handle it.

"No, no need. If this is everything, then you can go now."

The doctor left quickly. Only the White Star and Cale were left in the office.

The White Star took the medicine and then looked at the baby porridge that Cale recently ate. It was perfect to mix the medicine under it.

He took the pill and put it in a small jar and mixed it. Cale always eats a whole jar but it could be difficult if Cale didn't want to eat again.

Carefully, he carried Cale out of his pink grip. For a short time, the White Star became shocked after he didn't see him but remembered how Cale liked to sleep completely under the blanket.

Really, how could he sleep like this? His body was already hot but he still went under his blanket. Sometimes, he tried to take the bunny with him too but the bunny was too big for the two of them to fit under it.

Walking to his usual chair to sit in, Cale still slept.

After the White Star sat in a comfortable position; he tried to wake his son up, which wasn't easy. Cale was a deep sleeper.

The White Star would try different methods to wake him up. That was whatthe White Star would say, but to an outstander, it would lookas if the White Star was playing with his son.

He would press lightly on Cale's hand then swing his arms around and boop his face multiple times on different spost or try to tickle Cale.

Tickling was something the White Star learned recently after Fredo tried it once on Cale.

After many minutes of trying his son finally woke up. Before opening his eyes, he made a big yawn.

When Cale was still healthy he would then blabber and move around but now he was just looking at his father with a tired face.

It worried the White Star.

He took the first spoon of the mush and gave it to Cale who opened his mouth a tiny bit.

Not much of the food made it into Cale's mouth but at least something and Cale even ate it. It was a good sign.

The next spoon had the pill on it, the pill made it into Cale's mouth but soon it would slowly come out again. With his tongue Cale pushed it away.

White Star however took the spoon and pushed the medizin back into his son's mouth.

This went awhile like this till Cale took all his strength to cry while the pill was on his tongue.

The White Star then remembered what the doctor said.

'Something sweet…'

He looked around till he saw the juice Cale liked to drink. He took the bottle and shifted it into Cale's mouth which wasn't hard to miss since his mouth was wide open from the crying.

Immediately Cale stopped crying and drank the bottle empty.

It was a win for the White Star. He celebrated for a very short time; he was really proud of himself. Managing the tiny beast wasn't easy.

The White Star observed his son for a short while till he noticed that Cale still nibbled on the bottle even though it was empty.

He tried to take it away from Cale but his son didn't want to let go.

"It's empty, it doesn't have any more juice in it."

The White Star knew how much Cale loved the juice but never did he act that desperate.

After a little fight, the White Star finally got the bottle.

But his victory had a prize… Cale again began to cry.

'When he can cry like that means he is healthier… I guess.'

In the end, Cale received another bottle of juice. It was his win this time.

Chapter 11: It's time to go outside (1)

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Time had passed and everything was back to its usual routine.

Cale was crawling around again, biting and chewing every item that came into his way. He also began to try to climb some of the furniture, which was exhausting since White Star had to watch Cale more closely so he wouldn't hurt himself.

His solution back then would be to put Cale on his lap with his bunny plush or any other toy that was made for chewing. But recently, Cale was restless. It didn't take long till he wiggled his whole body to break free from his father.

The White Star learned that Cale had the desire to explore even though Cale should know how the office looked like right now.

To calm Cale down, the White Star began to play with his chubby cheeks. It was more entertaining than he thought it would be.

The baby would make funny expressions and weird noises while of course trying to move his head so he would be able to chew his father's finger.

Right now, it was one of the moments where Cale was dozing in White Star's lap while his father was busy finishing the documents and wiping the drool off Cale's mouth.

However, soon the office's door would open to show a familiar long white hair bound together and amethyst-like eyes and a very pale face.

It was Duke Fredo who immediately smiled at Cale and the White Star.

Cale’s fatigue vanished right away. He liked the Duke very much since he would always bring gifts and snacks.

"Hello~!"

‘Hello’ was a new word Cale learned. It was nothing much to Cale since he knew he would eventually learn how to speak, yet saying ‘hello’ made him very happy like it was the same for saying ‘gold’.

So Cale stretched his arms out and continued saying ‘hello’.

White Star shook his head at his son's reaction.

Fredo meanwhile couldn't smile more for him. Cale was the most precious; it gave his life more colors.

"Hello little highness, are you happy to see me?"

Cale began to lean towards Fredo and was almost falling off White Star's lap but luckily, his father held him tight.

The White Star looked at Fredo, dissatisfied,. With a face full of disgust, he began to ask the Duke,

"What are you doing here?"

Fredo just chuckled, he was always used to seeing a stoic face but since Cale appeared, his liege began to show more emotions, even when most of them were unpleasant ones.

"Visiting you and his little highness, of course."

White Star was blinded by Fredo's bright smile. He pondered if he should just kick the Duke out.

"It seems you don't have enough tasks, seeing you having this much time to spare to visit the palace more than just once a day."

Fredo didn't say anything. He just put a chocolate chip into Cale’s mouth while the baby replied happily. White Star and Fredo stared for a short time till the Duke decided to repeat his action, but this time on his liege.

With a quick movement, he shoved a chocolate chip into White Star's mouth.

Before White Star could say anything, Fredo opened his mouth.

"My liege, I think you need more sugar and also more sunlight. It seems you are paler than myself."

The White Star frowned and Cale stole the chocolate chip from his father's mouth and ate it.

"I get enough sunlight when fighting, I don't need more. If that's all you have to say, then leave."

Fredo shook his head.

"No, my liege. That is not healthy and especially for his little highness. Did he ever leave the castle? He needs to see the world, it's important for babies like him. Parents usually take them out daily for a stroll."

The Duke then reaches in his bag and shows a thick baby jacket with fur lined around the hood. He also had boots, gloves, a fluffy white scarf, and a little hat with bunny ears.

"It's spring, but it's still too cold outside for his little highness so I brought these clothes. I also got some for you, my liege. I noticed after my visits how you always wear a plain brown cloak and white shirt with black loose pants."

White Star didn't understand the problem, his clothes were comfortable and weren't in the way so there was no need to have more.

"I don't need it."

But Fredo didn't listen and snapped his fingers. He was instantly surrounded by light and once it vanished, the White Star wore new clothes. Even his hair was done.

His brown cloak was replaced with a black leather coat with a brooch adorned with red jewels and under the coat was a red vest with silver lining. Beneath it was a white shirt with laces and ruffles and black tight pants with a silver belt which also was adorned with jewels.

He even wore juweliers, two silver necklaces and earrings both with little white diamonds formed as stars.

"Wow."

Fredo admired the view, it made the White Star look like a completely different person and it suited him very much.

The White Star looked at himself in a mirror near him, and his frown deepened.

"I hate it."

He really hated those clothes. They weren't loose and comfortable at all and all the jewels made him shiny and glittering. The White Star wanted to take them off however his gaze fell on Cale who tried to take the brooch off.

But that wasn't the problem.

"Why am I only changed?"

Cale still wore his clothes from before.

Fredo just grinned and put the clothes for Cale on White Star's desk while pushing the documents away.

"Don't you want to change his clothes by hand? It's more adorable that way."

White Star raised an eyebrow. He never changed Cale's clothes by hand. He always used his magic, it was faster this way.

Fredo walked next to his liege and took Cale slowly out of his arms. White Star just let him if the Duke wanted to change Cale's clothes then he didn't mind.

As Cale was laid down on the desk, wiggling around as usual and began to sit himself up, Fedo began to talk.

"Let me help you."

"Hm?"

White Star didn't expect Fredo to say that.

"Just change him by yourself. I am not doing it."

The Duke wasn't surprised by his words but he knew how to change his liege's mind.

"His little highness won't see you as your father if you continue giving him no attention. He won't call you ‘papa’."

White Star growled and began to remove the first layer of Cale's clothes, however Fredo stopped him and with hand he took White Star's and began to guide.

"Careful, his little highness could get hurt."

The White Star would have already slapped- no even punished Fredo harshly for his actions but he let it slide this time since he didn't want to hurt Cale.

So he let Fredo guide him. The White Star thought changing clothes of a baby would be easy, however he was proved wrong.

All of the sudden, Cale started crying, he wagged his arms and feet and began to slap his father and Fredo. Even putting the hat on was a difficult task but somehow they managed to change Cale's clothes and Cale also stopped crying right after they were done.

White Star never felt this exhausted.

"This is the last time I’ll change his clothes by hand."

Fredo chuckled yet he couldn't allow his liege to continue to use magic.

"My liege, it is important. How would his little highness be able to change his clothes by himself if you never showed him."

"I didn't know babies were this stupid."

The Duke was a bit worried by his liege’s words. Just what did he know about babies?

He needed to come by more often.

But for now, the stroll was more important so Fredo clapped his hands.

"Now that we are done, the only thing left is to change our hair and eye color. It would be troublesome if someone would recognize us."

Of course Fredo didn't waste time and changed the eye and hair color with his magic. The White Star immediately looked at Cale who now had light brown hair and dark green eyes since White Star was his father, he expected to have the same hair and eye color.

But when he looked at the mirror, he saw the same hair color but the eyes were blue, not green. When White Star was about to question the Duke, he noticed how Fredo had the same eye color like Cale but had ash blond hair.

"Are you planning for us to pretend as partners?"

White Star hissed.

"Just what is this? It's not even possible for two men to have a baby!"

He was angry, the White Star had enough of those jokes without waiting for a response he changed Cale's eye into the same shade of blue like he had.

It looked much better.

Fredo made a sad look on his face.

"What a pity, I thought it was a good idea."

White Star glared at him.

"You really have a death wish!"

And Fredo would surely be dead or have lost two of his arms if Cale wasn't here right now.

The White Star took Cale in his arms and went past the Duke.

"Don't you dare touch my son today."

It was the best punishment the White Star could think of right now, he would add some more later. For him to spend time with Cale was more important right now and he actually felt some anticipation going outside.

Fredo laughed at his liege's punishment quietly and then touched his right ear. The Duke wore the same earrings as the White Star. White Star luckily didn't notice as he followed right after his liege.

He watched how Cale was playing with one of White Star's earrings and was able to get an "ouch" out of his father as he pulled on his earring.

The walk to the outside of the castle was interesting to watch as everyone looked at the White Star, Cale, and Fredo walking close next together. It was a rare view.

Once they reached the outside of the castle, Fredo marched towards the White Star and gently took his mask off.

"It would be weird to walk around with a mask, it would be better to take it off to avoid unnecessary attention."

The White Star clicked his tongue and took the mask away from the Duke, he then noticed the stroller.

"Wanting to avoid unnecessary attention with the mask but telling me a stroller like this won't give us any trouble?"

The stroller was in a light blue color and full of laces, ruffles and ribbons and wheels and the handles were mostly made out of gold.

"It was the only fitting one for his highness."

As White Star and Fredo were talking to each other, Cale couldn't take his eyes off his father. It was the first time he saw his father without a mask.

His face just looked exactly like the face Cale had as Kim Rok Soo. It was identical and weird to watch since Cale never made such angry or annoyed expressions with his face.

After some time, Cale began to touch his father's face in different places, slapping it lightly.

His father misunderstood his actions.

"Whatever we should go."

White Star went to the stroller and the closer he got, the more the hate grew for that thing but nonetheless he laid Cale in it. At least he tried.

For some reason, Cale was holding tightly onto his father and the White Star couldn't understand why. It wasn't the first time Cale did something like this, but he always acted this way when he was sad or upset yet Cale was actually calm right now.

Fredo approached from behind and placed his hand on White Star's shoulder, which was immediately brushed off.

"Seems like his little highness wants to stay in your arms, my liege."

The White Star looked at his son and sighed.

"So troublesome."

Chapter Text

Cale was leaning out of the stroller after his father laid him in there, saying Cale was getting too heavy for him.

The White Star often tried to lay Cale back down since he thought this was the entire reason for the stroller, for Cale to lay in there and fall asleep; however he soon gave up after his son wouldn't stop sitting himself back up to look around.

How could he not? Cale was interested to see the capital but what he did not expect was for the capital to be in a large hole and be filled with different kinds of races. He should have expected it after seeing Fredo as a vampire but he still was surprised.

Fredo chuckled.

"Our little Cale is so excited to see the outside."

White Star stared at Fredo with unpleasant eyes.

"What do you mean by 'our little Cale'? Watch your tongue."

After warning the Duke, White Star moved the stroller at a faster pace so Fredo wouldn't walk next to him. Meanwhile, Fredo thought that it wasn't the first time he said 'our'.

In the end, Fredo accepted White Star’s act and went after him.

Again, White Star was annoyed.

"How about leaving us and doing your work? You have no reason to be here."

"How can I leave my liege alone? What if you get lost."

White Star raised an eyebrow.

"What nonsense are you talking about now? Why would I get lost?"

"Because you are rarely outside."

"What bullshit! I’ve been around the world already and never got lost."

It made Cale wonder when he heard who exactly his father was. Hearing him talking about fighting and killing, when till now White Star never left the castle and now mentioning he had been around the world.

Looking at his father's face, he didn't look like he reached his thirties, he probably was barely in his twenties.

Now that Cale thought about it…maybe he wasn't even human. He was clearly in a fantasy world with many different races. His father might be much older than he looked.

It sounded exhausting for Cale.

All he wanted was a slacker life but the more he seemed to find out, the further away it got.

Could he even run away from his father? If he held that much power and knew every corner of the world?

Tears perked from Cale's eyes, and his father immediately noticed.

"Oh no."

He reacted as fast as he could and took Cale into his arms and began to rock him, hoping it would hinder from Cale crying out loud but it didn't help.

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"

White Star was confused, he didn't know why Cale was crying. He was enjoying the capital just now.

'Hungry? No, it couldn't be…he was fed not too long ago. His diaper? But I can't feel anything wet or warm.'

Nor was the White Star able to smell anything.

Then White Star noticed. For the first time Cale wasn't burying his head into him and tried to wrap his arms around the White Star. No, Cale was even trying to get away from him and slapped him a bit.

"What is wrong?"

White Star took out a pacifier and put it in Cale's mouth however, Cale immediately spit it out. Even the bunny plush they took with them didn't help.

The Duke approached the White Star.

"Maybe he wants to be held by me?"

Fredo stretched his arms out, ready to take Cale but White Star just turned around.

"You are probably the reason for his crying."

White Star suddenly stopped and looked at a small meadow filled with flowers. It was rare to see such places in Endable since the sun wouldn't reach till down here yet some of the lights made it.

It reminded White Star of the day when he killed Cale's mother and all their knights.

"Fredo, say…if you killed someone in front of a baby, would it be affected by it?"

The Duke raised an eyebrow and was obviously confused by his liege’s question, but he then immediately understood.

"Of course, the baby might not understand entirely what happened but it can leave trauma."

With that, White Star put his hand over Cale's eyes and casted a sleeping spell on him.

"I see."

White Star didn't say more, his expression also was calm and stoic however his eyes had a hint of guilt.

For Fredo it was clear, White Star killed Cale's mother and probably his only love?

Yet it didn't make sense. Would his liege really fall in love?

When Fredo thought about it. Was Cale his child? They looked extremely similar however, it could be coincidence but why would his liege then take a random child in and raise it?

Could it be, Cale was more than just a weak point? Was there something more about Cale that Fredo didn't know?

Yet he couldn't feel any mana from the child nor had he a huge plate, the plate even was weak and extremely small indicating that Cale probably won't grow strong even with a lot of training.

Any hidden ability? No, Fredo would have noticed already.

Nothing made sense to him.

"Our little Cale is growing up fast, I am sure he will learn how to walk soon. I noticed I never asked when his birthday was. I need to prepare for it."

With such a question, Fredo tried at least to find out if Cale was White Star's child or not.

"Stop saying 'our'."

"Alright but please tell me his birthday."

White Star looked at Fredo with a frown on his face; however, he had no problem answering his question since he decided a while ago.

"Day eight of the eleventh month."

When Cale had his fever and the doctor visited recently, White Star asked him to determine Cale's age. The doctor couldn't find the exact age of his son, but it was certain that his son was born between the tenth and eleventh month.

So White Star chose the date which had a meaning to him.

Fredo looked a bit surprised but his expression soon changed into a bright smile.

"So our little Cale is over four months old?"

The duke wanted to pat the sleeping Cale's head but White Star moved Cale out of his reach.

"What did I say? He is not our child but mine!"

Fredo chuckled, he should have expected that his liege had a birthday for Cale, guess Fredo had to find out another way. Since the age seemed to fit Cale from how much he grew.

"I am going back in, it's getting cold."

That was White Star's plan when suddenly two women were right in front of the White Star after he turned around.

Soon their smiles brightened and even got closer to the White Star.

"What an adorable baby! Can we take a better look? Is it a girl or boy?"

The White Star was immediately confused and backed away, not knowing why those women wanted to look at his son. Fredo meanwhile began to laugh.

The Duke put his hand on White Star's shoulder and began to talk with the two women.

"I am sorry, he is a bit shy and doesn't like it when people get too close."

Without hesitation, White Star hit Fredo.

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

The women chuckled and exchanged looks at each other after they saw the earrings Fredo and White Star were wearing as if they misunderstood the situation.

"We didn't know since he was so handsome that we thought he might be used to being approached."

"Can we look closer at the baby?"

The White still didn't understand why they wanted to take a look at Cale. Are they trying to snitch him away?

"No."

Both women began to giggle which turned into laughter.

"What a protective young father!"

"I would react the same way if I had such a cute baby!"

With that the White Star walked past them quickly not giving one glance and Fredo went after him, waving those two a goodbye.

The womens continued their giggle and saying how great love could be and how much they wanted those earrings and wear it with their partner.

"Seems like I was successful"

White Star raised an eyebrow after hearing Fredo whispering to himself.

"In what?"

Fredo smiled.

"Nothing"

"Whatever"

The stroll was absolutely annoying. Maybe White Star would let Sayeru do the job in the future. He would definitely not give Cale to Fredo and let his son alone with him.

So now is the question: should I do a timeskip or write about Cale taking his first steps and first birthday? The latter would take 2 chapters then a timeskip would happen so Cale can do more chaos.

Chapter Text

Months had passed and nothing much had happened. The White Star didn't achieve anything great for his goal of becoming a god nor did his son call him 'dada'.

One good thing was that Cale didn't call Fredo 'mama' again and something else also changed; Cale stopped biting and nibbling. He still took many things in his mouth but often out of curiosity.

What White Star also did notice in those months was how fast Cale was growing because Fredo insisted that White Star should change Cale's clothes by hand, he discovered that Cale's clothes would be too small for him at a fast rate and that he always needed new ones.

It was the same case for today.

"Can you stop growing so much? You are getting heavier as well, maybe I should reduce the amount of food I am giving you…"

Losing some weight would be good for Cale, his cheeks were just too chubby.

Cale immediately tried to kick his father after hearing those words, he already planned to deafen the White Star with his scream if he gets any less food.

Maybe he should just do it, his father deserved it since his kicks didn't do anything to the White Star, it didn't even hit him, Cale's legs were too short but it made it harder for White Star to change his clothes.

"Could you stop wiggling around already? You will get your food."

With that Cale immediately stopped and smiled at his father however, the smile rather looked like a smirk as if Cale knew how to pull the strings.

Finally White Star finished dressing his son. For a short time, he stared at his clothes and decided he hated them but it was the only thing that fit Cale.

All the others that might still fit were dirty. Whatever Cale did and no matter how clean his surroundings were, he always managed to mess up his clothes and made them dirty.

What Cale was wearing now, was a bunny romper in a bright pink color with many unnecessary ribbons and it was extremely fluffy. What White Star hated most on this stromper was that it was from Fredo.

An ugly romper from an ally he hated the most.

Just why was Fredo so obsessed with big ribbons? The stroller White Star now had also got ribbons on every spot.

White Star sighed before since he couldn't change anything, he then lifted Cale up and put him in a chair designed for babies. Another thing that Fredo had brought, but this time it was useful.

Recently, Cale started to try to eat on his own and his son insisted on holding the spoon by himself.

Every time when Cale ate he left an unbelievable mess, sometimes White Star wasn't sure if Cale actually wanted to eat or play with the food instead.

White Star didn't know that there were so many ways to destroy food and also ruin other things at the same time.

His son already destroyed important documents because of that, that's why that chair was a savior for the documents and White Star's sanity. Well, not his entire sanity was saved.

He placed a bowl in front of Cale and handed his son the spoon which wasn't the golden spoon Cale always desired but one also made for babies.

Which of course Cale threw on the ground. He wanted the golden one.

White Star sighed again as he picked up the spoon and gave it directly in Cale's hand. Once he let go, his son loosen the grip and let the spoon fall again.

"Eat gold!"

Cale then thumped on the table of the chair, showing how much he wanted the golden spoon.

"No, it's way too big, you make too much of a mess with it and it's troublesome taking the golden spoon away from you again."

The White already learned from his mistake, he would never again hand Cale over the golden spoon.

Soon after Cale slowly moved the bowl filled with baby porridge near the edge of the table, intending to throw it down if he didn't get his spoon which White Star immediately noticed.

"Throw it from the table and you won't get anything to eat."

White Star gave Cale the spoon again from before and Cale luckily listened this time and started eating.

There was a short feeling of relief till Cale began after every second bite to fill the spoon as much as he could, which already made a mess because everything spilled on the table and on Cale's clothes and let the contents of the spoon fall into the ground on the carpet.

"Cale…why are you like this?"

It was enough for the White Star, he took the spoon and decided to feed Cale now.

He moved it towards Cale waiting for him to open his mouth, which Cale didn't.

"All this tumult for a golden spoon? Come and eat now."

'I can't have you cry later for being hungry.'

How could that be that a baby already had so much personality before even reaching its first birthday? White Star always thought all babies could only drool and scream.

After hitting the spoon against Cale's mouth multiple times, Cale decided to wiggle around, at least that was what White Star till Cale stood on his own feet while holding on the chair.

White would have stopped Cale but he never saw him do such a thing before, Cale once tried to climb the closet but never on the chair.

'Is he trying to climb out?'

And White was right, the first foot was outside and the other was about to. It looked funny since Cale wiggled around and had no hold but he was quite talented in climbing out.

Cale was almost on the floor but right before he made it. Cale fell and bumped on the carpet.

"WHAAAAAAAAAA!"

Immediately he began to cry, even though the fall couldn't have hurt in any way.

'Of course it had to happen.'

White Star widened his arms, telling Cale to come here so White Star could comfort him but Cale looked at the door that slowly opened.

The White Star feared the worst, knowing it only could be Fredo but who showed up was the Dragon Half-blood instead of the Duke.

It made White almost relieved and glad till Cale looked at the Half-blood.

Cale, who was again holding himself up on the chair while crying, turned around and suddenly ran towards the Dragon Half-blood and hugged one of his legs.

Both the Dragon Half-blood and White Star were shocked. Both had other reasons why.

'It's been months since I last saw him and my brother still recognizes me?'

Shock soon turned into joy after realizing Cale recognized the Dragon Half-blood. He lifted Cale up and tried to calm him down.

"There there."

The Dragon Half-blood wanted to ask Cale so many questions and talk with him, he didn't care if his brother wasn't able to understand all but all of the sudden, he felt a murderous aura directly towards him.

What he saw was the White Star, his face filled with rage, eyes almost glowing in a dangerous color and hands were balled into a fist. However, the Dragon Half-blood remembered his liege's aura to be much stronger when angry.

He didn't know that his liege held back, White Star was afraid it might affect Cale again. He didn't want Cale to fall sick again.

The first thing the Dragon Half-blood did was to tighten his grip around his brother more, thinking his liege was about to punish Cale in the worst way possible.

"Oh? So you did your first steps and who are you walking towards first? Not me."

And it sounded like White Star was angry at his son but he was actually angry at the Dragon Half-blood. If he didn't come in, Cale would have walked to him.

Maybe Cale would have finally called him 'dada'.

'Should I punish this useless Half-blood?'

Not only did he have trouble becoming a full dragon, he also took away a precious moment with his son. White Star began to regret buying the Dragon Half-blood.

But his rage ceased once Cale reached his arms towards him.

"Give him to me."

The Dragon Half-blood nodded, too afraid to say anything. The fear that his liege might get angry again was too big.

But he really didn't want to give Cale to him. His brother was too adorable with those chubby cheeks and short arms and legs.

It was hard to believe his brother could walk to him.

But at least he handed Cale over and his brother immediately began to cuddle the White Star, but only because he didn't want his father to kill the Half-blood.

White hummed after seeing Cale hugged him and even hugged back.

"You know how to get yourself out of trouble, hm? And that's all because of the spoon."

The Dragon Half-blood watched the scene before him. He then again noticed how much Cale looked like his liege, he was truly the White Star’s son.

Maybe because Cale was related by blood with the White Star, he received better treatment than the Half-blood could ever wish for.

In the end, he was bought by a single gold coin and believed White Star was his father, which wasn't true and his biggest mistake.

In the past he clinged to his liege, hoping to receive attention and affection. He thought if he did like White Star told him, he would be freed from the dungeon, get accepted one day, but the day never came.

Once he was out of this prison, the Half-blood was used as a mere weapon for war.

He exhaled before leaving his liege's office. He took one last glance at the White Star who sat Cale down on the carpet and tried to make Cale walk again.

It made the Dragon Half-blood wonder if his original parents acted the same way when he was a baby like his liege to Cale, but he had his doubts. Even his real parents saw him as a nuisance.

The door was closed and as the Dragon Half-blood walked away, he heard them one last time before leaving completely.

"Gold! Want gold!"

"No."

"Idiat"

"Did you just try to say idiot?"

Chapter Text

"WHY?"

Deruth had thrown all documents from his desk including the vase filled with beautiful flowers. Soon his chair would follow too.

"My wife…my son…"

It had already been months since his wife was killed and his son taken away.

Deruth still remembered the day when he found out what happened.

Drew, his wife, was on a small trip with their son, Cale. They should have returned soon. Deruth waited for their arrival, he wanted to hug his wife and son and welcome them back. He wanted to hear them both laugh and smile and tell him what they did on their trip.

Hours passed and Deruth became anxious, they should have returned by now but no one came after two more hours, Deruth was about to send knights to search for his beloved ones but he didn't have to anymore.

A knight barely alive arrived at the gate of the estate. With much effort, he told his lord what happened. How Drew Henituse was killed by a man with red hair just like hers who also wore a mask. That this man took the young master, Cale Henituse, and vanished.

The knight was the only one who survived and that was by pure luck because the attackers didn't notice he was still alive.

Immediately the count commanded to show him the place, to bring him to his wife who was lying on trampled flowers and stained with blood. Her face was full of dried-up tears.

Deruth took his dead wife in his arms. Her skin was already cold.

The count mourned for his wife for a long time. He wouldn't sleep nor eat but he also didn't cry because he couldn't. Instead, he often cursed and destroyed many pieces of furniture. His mourning and rage were indescribable.

On this day, Deruth promised Drew he would find Cale. He didn't allow himself to fall into despair. Deruth believed that Cale was still alive and was waiting for his father to come to his rescue.

But even after months, there were no clues. Nothing about a mysterious man with red hair and a mask, no traces of Cale.

"Cale…he will soon be one year old. His birthday is so close by."

All the lost time that the count couldn't spend with his beloved son.

Deruth wasn't able to see Cale crawl for the first time, his first words and steps. Cale would surely already call Deruth 'papa' and walk to him with wiggly legs and his arm open wide. His son would giggle around and make a mess everywhere.

"I will find you, Cale, my poor son."

"..."

Ron, the head butler of this household watched his lord cry after his lost son. Unlike Deruth, Ron had no hope that the young master would be still alive. He knew who was behind the attack.

The secret organization.

Those who one night attacked Ron's home. They killed everyone in the household on the spot. They let no one survive, just like with his lord, they killed his people and wife.

However, at least Ron was able to save himself and his son. They ran from the eastern continent away and now were staying in the Henituse household as butler and cook.

His son and he saw it as their new home, a new beginning, and now once again that secret organization stole something important.

Ron was responsible to take care of the young master most of the time. In those short months, Ron already grew quite fond of Cale. It reminded him of his time as a new father.

"My lord, I will do everything in my power to find the rat who took the young master."

Deruth looked at Ron. He was thankful for what Ron had already done for him even when he also had found nothing about Cale.

"Yes, thank you."

"Bun!"

Cale was walking with much effort to Sayeru who held Cale's plush bunny in his hand. Sayeru was actually here to report to his liege but for some reason, he ended up playing with his liege's son.

It was adorable, he couldn't deny it.

White Star, who was drowning in documents, watched how Cale walked, forgetting all the work he had to finish. It was one reason why his desk slowly built his own kingdom made out of paper.

But after observing Sayeru and Cale, he suddenly noticed something.

"It seems like Duke Fredo is very busy lately. He didn't show up for a long time. I didn't give him any tasks, Sayeru do you know anything?"

Cale fell on his behind while trying to reach Sayeru. To get his bunny he decided to crawl the rest. Before he grabbed it Sayeru stood up from his kneeling position and further his distance between him and Cale and sat down again.

In the end, Cale stood up and began to walk to Sayeru once again. Cale would have already begun to cry from such action but he had a pacifier in his mouth.

That thing worked like magic, it was much easier to control his emotions now.

"Huh, Didn't you hear? Fredo is busy buying presents because mini Cale Barrow's birthday is soon."

White Star raised an eyebrow.

"It's almost his birthday?"

"What a great father you are, Barrow."

He forgot that Cale was soon one year old. The White Star wouldn't care about someone's birthday, he didn't celebrate his own since he received his curse.

But for some reason, it was different for Cale. White Star wanted to make a small celebration for his son, but he had no intention of showing Cale to the public. It would be too dangerous.

Even in disguise, two women already tried to steal his son.

"However, Fredo has been away for weeks."

"Bun shiny!"

Finally, Cale reached his bunny plush and immediately embraced it so Sayeru couldn't steal it again, it was also very fluffy.

Even when Cale was almost one year old, he still was small compared to his bunny. The bunny was still bigger than him, it was hard to imagine how Cale was able to hold it when he was younger.

"Yes…he really is trying his best to choose the best presents for mini Cale Barrow."

Was Fredo always like this? White Star expected the Duke to spend time with his own son. It's been so long since White Star saw Naru.

"Is he…neglecting his own son?"

It wasn't White Star's business nor did he care much however, if that was the case then White Star should force Fredo to spend more time with Naru.

It was one way to get rid of him if he got too annoying again.

'Hmmmm.'

Or Naru could play with Cale…

White Star read that children need friends to learn how to socialize.

But it didn't matter now. What was more important was what the White Star should give his son as a present. If he couldn't give Cale a grand party then at least he should give him the perfect present.

White Star looked around, his office was more like Cale's playroom, all his toys were lying around. All kinds of stuffed animals and figurines, a rocking horse where Cale fell down every time he wanted to play with it, that was now in the closet.

One reason why it was in the closet was that last time when Cale fell down, White Star had to pretend to be a horse and walk on all fours with Cale on his back since his son wouldn't stop crying and it was the only way to calm down.

It was not only humiliating but also painful since Cale had grabbed White Star's hair to not fall down. Sayeru was even there and pretended to feed White Star with a carrot.

Maybe the White Star could find something instead of that annoying rocking horse.

He continued looking around, even the black dragon egg was here that now belonged to Cale. It would be impossible to find something greater than a dragon egg.

"Manipulating an ancient dragon probably won't be possible…"

"My liege, what?!"

"Nevermind."

After seeing all the toys and even gold, White Star noticed one thing.

'My son is spoiled."

Chapter Text

Cale was starting to stir from his sleep while being gently carried by his father. It wasn't unusual for him to be carried like this while snoozing; it happened every now and then.

What caught him off guard, though, was the flurry of servants bustling around. Even his father seemed exasperated.

"I only gave them simple jobs, but they're darting around like nervous rabbits," the White Star sighed.

Cale could understand why they were bustling around like that. He had already heard that his father was preparing for his birthday, and it seemed that today was the day.

It was pretty entertaining to watch, with so many of them tripping over their own feet or getting lost. Normally, Cale would just observe and enjoy the show. But being a little baby, he couldn't help but burst into laughter, unable to contain his excitement.

It didn't take long for White Star to notice Cale waking up and giggling. He glanced at him briefly, and they both didn't realize his lips curled into a slight smile before he began talking to one of his servants.

“It it safe to use teleporting magic on such a small thing?”

Cale was the 'small thing' in question. It was actually quite amusing for him to see his father struggling so much with a baby.

“Yes, my liege. We prepared everything to make the journey to the Mogoru Empire as safe as possible,” the servant had explained with a shaky voice.

The servant stood there while explaining, trembling in front of White Star, his eyes fixed firmly on the ground.

But Cale's mind wandered elsewhere as soon as the servant mentioned the Mogoru Empire.

He had heard that name somewhere before, and it didn't take long for Cale to remember.

‘The empire was mentioned in Birth of the Hero. That can't be a coincidence.’

Since waking up in this world as a baby, Cale had been trying to learn more about it, though it was nearly impossible in his current form.

With the limited information available to him, Cale was able to piece it together.

‘Shit.’

Yet he still found himself in the dark, lacking crucial details.

He was uncertain whether the plot of the story had truly commenced. The timeline remained a mystery, and none of those around him had been mentioned in the book, at least not up to the part he had read.

The Mogoru Empire was barely mentioned, leaving Cale practically clueless about it.

‘This is troublesome.’

Cale needed to determine if he was a character entangled in the plot, so he could avoid becoming involved in the story.

However, he found himself unable to do much in his current tiny form, especially with his father around him almost all the time.

There's a possibility for them to interact with new people once they are in the Empire.

Even though Cale didn't know the people he would soon encounter or why his father wanted to celebrate his birthday there.

As the White Star continued to carry Cale towards the mage who prepared the portal, Cale noticed someone already waiting for them.

Certainly, it was none other than the Duke, Fredo Von Ejellan. Upon seeing Cale, Fredo's initially cold expression turned into a cheerful one instantly.

He walked towards the White Star and Cale casually, as if he was about to give them a hug.

The White Star quickly reacted, turning his shoulder to Fredo.

"Do not entertain such foolish thoughts of touching my son.”

Fredo chuckled quietly, as he had expected such a reaction.

“It's his little highness's birthday. How else should I congratulate him?”

“with words and a lot of distance.”

Cale was relieved that his father had intervened and prevented Fredo from getting too close. Although Cale appreciated Fredo's gifts, he disliked the duke's habit of ending hugs with cheek pinches.

Suddenly, before Cale's eyes, a portal opened. His father didn't say anything as he approached the portal, with Fredo following closely behind.

Unintentionally, Cale closed his eyes as the light of the portal grew brighter.

“Hm? did you break?”

After hearing his father's monotone voice, Cale opened his eyes.

He found himself in an entirely different place, adorned with various types of marble and large windows through which sunlight streamed.

It had been quite some time since he had seen so much sunlight. While Endable wasn't devoid of light, being deep underground meant that sunlight rarely reached it.

However, he struggled to focus after noticing numerous individuals in the vast hallway, all of whom kept their heads down and kneeled.

It was shocking for Cale; the presence of all those unfamiliar people in an unknown location brought tears to his eyes, and he was on the verge of crying.

The White Star immediately noticed Cale's teary eyes and spoke quickly..

“Leave.”

Without further explanation, they all departed, leaving only Fredo and two others behind: an older man and a small child, both with silver hair.

Their attire was extravagant and high quality. It was evident that the two were of high-ranking nobility, although they still held a lower status than his father, as they kneeled before him.

The White Star didn't pay them much attention. He glanced at the child before returning his gaze to Cale.

“Let's go, it's time to celebrate your birthday.”

These words felt strange to Cale.

‘When was the last time my birthday was celebrated?’

His last celebration had been around the time when his team leader and Choi Jung Soo were alive. It was a small surprise party with only the three of them.

But Cale still treasured those memories. It was a time when he could relax and take a break from the challenges of life.

But he couldn't recall celebrating with his parents, as they had died when he, as Kim Rok Soo, was at a young age.

His uncle, who had taken care of Kim Rok Soo after his parent's death, likely didn't even know his birthday.

He would simply drink alcohol, as he did every day. It was considered a blessing when his uncle didn't beat him up.

It was different now; he had a father who genuinely seemed to care about Cale and adored him, even though he didn't want to show it.

‘I really have a family now.’

He had a chance to behave like the child he had always wanted to be.

Cale hugged his father around the neck and smiled brightly. The White Star was speechless and decided to simply ruffle his son's hair.

As the huge doors swung open and they entered, Cale beheld a hall adorned with decorations and filled with an array of extravagant gifts, with a table positioned at the center. Resting atop the table was a massive cake.

His father was about to seat Cale on a miniature throne made just for him, but Cale refused.

“Nu, not want alone.”

There was no way Cale wanted to sit on that thing; it was too much. Instead, he preferred to sit on his father's lap.

The White Star sighed, taking Cale back into his arms and settling down with him on a more ordinary chair.

“Satisfied?”

Cale nodded, feeling very satisfied, even though he still wanted to know why his father had chosen to celebrate in the Empire.

Perhaps it was related to some business involving that older silver-haired man.

It was strange. Why was he here, and why did his child need to be here as well?

Suddenly, the White Star called the child over before addressing Cale.

"He is your present. I heard kids need others their age to socialize, so I will give you your first friend. His name is Adin.”

After hearing those words, everyone was stunned; Fredo even dropped a present to the ground.

Cale didn't know how to react or what to say. He glanced at Adin, who appeared clearly afraid and didn't even dare to meet Cale's or his father's gaze.

Things didn't improve for Cale after he realized he was familiar with the name. It had been mentioned once or twice in Birth of the Hero.

‘Fuck.’

Adin wasn't just the child of a high-ranked noble, but the imperial crown prince of the Mogoru Empire, and he was forced to be Cale's friend.

‘This isn't good.’

Not only would Cale be involved in future plots, but he had already made an enemy.

‘There is no way this brat will like me after this.’

Cale felt a pang of uncertainty. He didn't know much about the Empire or Adin. Yet, it was becoming increasingly apparent that both would wield significant influence in the unfolding narrative.

Noticing the proud smirk etched on his father's face, Cale couldn't shake off a sense of unease.

‘A mask, tired eyes, and a commanding voice that bends others to his will…’

Cale cursed silently in his head, recognizing the unmistakable traits of a villain in his father's demeanor.

Up to the fifth volume of Birth of the Hero, nothing was mentioned about the Endable Kingdom.

But something else etched his mind, he clearly remembered a certain minor villain who appeared early in the plot.

‘Cale Henituse.’

The red hair, brown eyes and even the first name were identical to him and the small antagonist. Yet things didn't add up.

‘Why would Cale Henituse be in a villain's care in a whole different country?’

Cale shook his head to clear his mind and looked at his father, who bore a striking resemblance to him but never once hinted that Cale might not be his biological son. It felt odd, but Cale shrugged it off, chalking it up to a strange coincidence.

Regardless, the fact remained that his father might do something foolish in the future, complicating Cale's path to an easy life.

It was frustrating, but Cale knew he had to take action to prevent his father from continuing down the path of a villain.

Or run away, however something else was pestering Cale's mind. 'What exactly is my father that even an emperor kneels before him?'

Lost in contemplation, Cale didn't notice Fredo's gaze. Misinterpreting Cale's expression, Fredo assumed the young prince was feeling uneasy because of his father's gift.

That was indeed the truth, but for an entirely different reason.

“same age? His little highness is six years younger than him!”

The White Star raised an eyebrow in confusion, not grasping the underlying issue.

"The age gap is only six years; they're practically the same age. My son is just a bit smaller than him. I don't see what the issue is.”

Adin remained standing in front of the White Star and Cale, his eyes fixed on the ground. The White Star glanced back at his son, tears welling up in his eyes.

‘He doesn't like my gift?’

Once again, Cale was misunderstood. The overwhelming fuss and new information proved too much for his small frame, and the only way his body could react was to cry.

The White Star frowned.

“Do you hate my gift, hm?”

The question sent a shiver down Cale's spine. Without hesitation, he quickly got up from the White Star's lap, embraced Adin, and shook his head.

“No, Cale likes him.”

Cale feared that if he expressed his dislike for the gift, it might lead to Adin being harmed or even killed.

As Cale glanced at Adin and locked eyes with the imperial prince, he noticed that Adin was still tense, but there were sparkles in his eyes.

‘The fuck is wrong with this brat?’

Despite noticing the change in Adin's demeanor, Cale paid it no mind after hearing his father sigh. The intimidating aura around his father seemed to dissipate, yet his frown remained.

The White Star felt a twinge of irritation as he observed how his son embraced the puny crown prince kid.

He waved his hand, signaling for Cale to come back to him.

“I have something else for you.”

The White Star took out a small gift and opened it for Cale to see.

What Cale saw made his eyes go wide.

It was a golden spoon, something Cale had often tried to steal in the past, but now he didn't have to anymore since he got his own.

It made Cale hug his father tightly and say.

“Thank you, papa!”

Upon hearing those words, the White Star's eyes widened, and he didn't notice his lips twitching as he hugged his son back.

“You are an odd one.”

But the White Star had won. His son finally called him papa.

Notes:

After so long Cale had finally called White Star 'papa', meanwhile Deruth was even more in sorrow and Ron was feeling more rage.

Chapter Text

Four years had gone by and Cale recently turned 5 years old.

Small steps echoed in the palace hallway; they belonged to Cale, who was running toward Sayeru.

The White Star, his father, wasn't here right now. He had gone away on some mission, leaving Sayeru to keep an eye on Cale.

It was the perfect opportunity to beg for more chocolate.

Finally, Cale found Sayeru. With his tiny hands, he reached up to the huge king bear's cape and tugged on it.

“Uncle Sayeru…” Cale said in a small, cute voice, trying to make his eyes look as big, sad, and pleading as possible.

Hearing this, Sayeru turned around and looked down to Cale.

“Can Cale have some choco?”

Sayeru immediately felt a pang in his heart. Even though Cale was just a smaller version of his liege, he couldn't resist his cuteness.

Sometimes he wondered if his liege was also this adorable back then.

But he still had to say no to Cale. It was his liege’s command.

Before leaving, the White Star had instructed Sayeru not to give Cale too much chocolate. His son's cheeks were too chubby. Cale should only get chocolate as a reward for eating all his vegetables.

The White Star didn't know that Cale just wanted to act spoiled since he finally had the chance. He had no problem eating vegetables. However, he enjoyed seeing his father's annoyed face when he refused to let him feed him.

Only after the White Star was completely frustrated, Cale would eat it or his father would give him a reward once he ate it.

Looking at Cale made Sayeru think how pitiful he looked. He sighed before grabbing some chocolate from his pockets.

Since Cale had gotten older, Sayeru always carried sweets with him, just in case Cale wouldn't stop crying.

“Just don't tell anyone, alright?”

Cale flashed a bright smile before grabbing the chocolate with both hands and darting off immediately.

“Not even giving me a thanks…”

Sayeru felt like he was being played.

With his father gone, Cale was able to explore the castle more.

Not only was his child-mind curious about the big white castle but there were also many valuable things to steal.

With a small pouch, Cale stuffed every little juwel or gold into it. He had been doing it the last few days and Cale heard his father would probably return soon if nothing came up. Which meant Cale had to be quick.

Soon Cale found himself in a room with dozens of shelves filled with scrolls.

Out of curiosity, Cale took the lowest one he could reach and opened it.

It didn't long till Cale knew what those scrolls were.

‘Teleportation scrolls…’

In the Birth of the Hero series, those scrolls were frequently used for transportation or escape. Since Choi Han usually had Rosalyn, a powerful mage, with him, they rarely needed to use one. It was often the villains who relied on them.

Cale couldn't read anything written on it; all he saw was a circle with strange symbols.

Those scrolls were valuable but large and easier to spot, so Cale tried to slowly close it.

But his clumsy hands slipped, and Cale accidentally ripped the scroll.

‘Shit!’

With that he activated the scroll, light illuminated him and soon vanished from the room.

When Cale opened his eyes, he found himself in what looked like a garden, facing a blond boy with tears in his eyes, staring at him in shock.

“Huh?”

Both Cale and the boy gasped in surprise.

The boy rubbed his tears away and approached Cale with a suspicious gaze. His blue eyes scanned Cale's entire body before locking onto his face.

“How did you get here?”

Looking at the blond boy, Cale guessed he was around nine years old. His clothes were too fancy for a commoner but too simple for a high-ranking noble.

The garden also looked huge but wasn't well taken care of, yet the boy somehow felt familiar to Cale.

Cale pondered what to say before deciding to just act clueless.

He tilted his head and said, "I don't know.”

The boy's suspicion didn't vanish at all, as if he didn't believe Cale in the slightest.

“You're telling me you don't know how you ended up in the palace that belongs to the Rowoon’s first prince?”

Cale’s eyes widened in shock.

Rowoon's first prince, like Crown Prince Alver Crossman, who used Choi Han for his own goals?

Seeing Cale's shock convinced Alver that he truly didn't know how he ended up here. He sighed and pondered the best way to return this kid to his parents.

Thinking about where Cale's parents could possibly be, Alver doubted Cale knew their whereabouts. There was also a chance this kid was a playmate for one of the other princes and somehow got lost.

Meanwhile, Cale could feel panic rising within him. His childlike brain made him easily overwhelmed by emotions.

It had its advantages; since he could easily act like a child, even though his father might not noticed, even if Cale didn't act like one.

The White Star still had absolutely no understanding of children. Yet his emotions sometimes got in his way, just like now.

Alver noticed Cale growing scared and nervous. He sighed again and took Cale's hand. It made Alver wonder how no guards or servants had noticed him, or how Cale hadn't cried out loud yet.

"Let's go inside first.”

Cale had no choice but to follow the small prince as he was dragged along by him.

Soon, Cale found himself sitting on a plush bed, his eyes darting around the room. Overall, the room was nice but seemed too simple for a future crown prince.

He remembered the novel describing how hard Alver had to fight for his position, even after receiving the title of the crown prince.

Alver was favored by the king while his mother was still alive, but everything changed after her death.

Cale couldn't help but see the small Kim Rok Soo in Alver. Even when Alver's father was still alive, Alver had no one and was neglected, just like Cale had been as a Kim Rok Soo.

The small prince reached for his jar of cookies and walked towards Cale. His aunt Tasha would fill his jar every now and then.

“Here take one.”

Alver was trying to gain Cale's trust with cookies and also calm him down a bit. It seemed to work, since Cale immediately grabbed two.

While Cale happily ate his cookies, Alver pondered which family Cale was from. The best way to find out was to ask for his name.

Perhaps Alver could use the kid to gain support from some nobles and sway them to his side.

Yet Alver knew the children of every noble, and none of them had crimson hair like Cale's. There was one who resembled him, but it couldn't possibly be him. Still, Cale's appearance was strikingly similar to that other child…

“What is your name?”

Cale looked at Alver, his mouth covered in cookie crumbs and seemingly full of cookies.

“Cale Barrow.”

The redhead just gave his almost full name, considering how similar he looked to Cale Henituse, though he was thinking of pretending to be him.

But he decided against it. Cale didn't want to cause too much trouble, and he also wasn't sure if Cale Henituse was around his age right now. Something he would never tell others was that his actual full name was Cale Barrow the second.

Alver raised a brow; it was too much of a coincidence. A redhead with dark brown eyes and even sharing the same first name as the count's son who vanished over four years ago.

How didn't Alver realize it earlier?

It had to be Cale Henituse.

But how did he end up here? Why was he here?

Alver shook his head. It didn't matter right now; he had to take immediate action.

The prince pondered as he watched Cale take another cookie without asking him first.

‘What a little brat.’

The White Star returned to Endable Kingdom successfully, having obtained yet another ancient power. Only two elements were missing now: earth and water.

His goal to become a god was drawing closer, but right now his mind was elsewhere. He wanted to know how his son had been doing the last few days, but due to his schedule, he could only check via video calling after his son was already asleep.

He had already noticed how Sayeru struggled to take care of him. The bear's eye bags were deeper than the White Star's own.

The White Star already imagined his son running towards him, demanding hugs and gifts.

Small hums were heard from him as he entered the castle.

What he saw was a total mess, with servants, maids, and guards running around, calling for his son.

The White Star frowned.

“What is going on here?”

His deep voice made everyone stop in fear; no one dared to say a thing.

“Hm?”

It made White Star angry.

Sayeru came forth, his face sweating.

“My liege, we can't find his highness.”

Notes:

I don't intend to give White Star any breaks
Come one White Star and experience how it truely feels to be Cale's dad

Also I am thinking if Raon should hatch when Cale is 14 or earlier.

Also I kimda regret a bit teleporting Cale to Alver since I could also chose Eruhaben
I think it would be way funnier

Chapter 17: Gold Stranger (1)

Notes:

I decided to change the plot in chapter 16 and let Cale teleport somewhere else since I think meeting Alver is too early. (But I will keep the first version of Chapter 16 online for now.)

And since only half the chapter was changed, I will upload chapter 17 in a couple of hours. (Probably after I took my good night sleep lol)

I am really sorry for the changes and not giving you a new chapter immediately and only giving you half of a chapter.

‘Shit!’

With that he activated the scroll, light illuminated him and soon vanished from the room.

When Cale opened his eyes, he was immediately struck by the sight of a vast, snowy landscape. As his vision cleared, he realized he was actually on a snowy mountain, not just imagining it. The cold air, the crunch of snow under his feet, and the sheer expanse of white all confirmed it.

Cale began to shiver uncontrollably as his small body sank halfway into the snow. His clothes quickly became soaked and were far too thin to offer any protection against the biting cold.

Panic was rising within him, Cale glanced around frantically as snowflakes settled on his hair, face, and clothes.

His tiny body couldn't handle all the strange things happening, and the cold was starting to become painful. To make matters worse, there was no one around to help.

Cale would do anything to get out of this situation, but his childlike body wouldn't move. Only his tears and cries showed his distress.

He immediately started crying as loudly as he could.

“W-w-whaaaaaaaaaa-aaaaa!!”

His voice was trembling from the cold.

But his screams were cut short when he was suddenly picked up.

"What is a human child doing here?"

An annoyed, husky voice spoke, and soon Cale saw the face behind the voice.

White-gold and long golden hair fluttered in the wind, framing a beautiful face with porcelain-like skin. Sharp golden eyes, filled with intensity, narrowed as they took in the sight of Cale's crying face.

Cale would be lying if he said his father was better looking than the grumpy man in front of him.

He also earned extra points for his golden color.

The tears vanished as quickly as they came, and Cale felt the urge to grab the man's gold hair and pull it, but he barely managed to hold back.

The stranger sighed before asking, "You should be old enough to speak. Where are your parents, little one?”

“...I don't know.”

Another, deeper sigh escaped the man's lips. If Cale was honest, it looked like the man was getting a headache. Cale was getting one too.

“You are lost?”

Cale just nodded.

“Tsk.”

Even though the man seemed displeased with the situation, he carefully cradled Cale in his arms, making sure he was warm and comfortable.

The White Star had much to learn from the golden stranger.

Eruhaben looked at the small, red-haired child. He guessed the child was only around three years old, given how small he was.

He could still sense the mana around the child, and noticing no footprints, he guessed that the little troublemaker had accidentally used a teleportation scroll.

Given the clothes, it was easy to guess that the brat came from a noble family, and a high-ranking one at that.

It made everything worse.

The ancient dragon pondered what to do with the toddler. The only nearby human village had a forbidden area and was full of grieving people.

It wasn't a suitable place for a child. There was also the elf village, but he knew they wouldn't be thrilled to care for a human, even though they would never dare to refuse.

He clicked his tongue again.

“Kid, what is your name?”

“Cale..”

Eruhaben was about to click his tongue again upon hearing the shy, trembling voice.

‘What an unlucky brat.’

“My name is Eruhaben, I will take you with me until I find your parents.”

It was settled, the dragon wouldn't leave the kid alone and teleported to his place.

Taking care of a small child for a few days shouldn't be too difficult.

Once they arrived, Eruhaben set Cale down on the sofa, glanced at him briefly, and then snapped his fingers.

In an instant, Cale's clothes were dry.

The ancient dragon huffed with satisfaction and was about to speak when Cale suddenly stood up and looked around with glittering eyes.

“All the gold and sparkle.”

Eruhaben frowned. Wasn't this kid just shy? Why was he now walking around as if he were at home?

Cale stood on his tiptoes to reach the shining spoon. When he got a good look at it, he gasped. The spoon was made of crystal with golden details and tiny diamonds. It looked far more expensive than his own golden spoon.

But it was taken away in a second.

“Don’t touch my things, kid—Oi!” the dragon scolded, but Cale simply wandered off elsewhere.

The gold, jewels, and other expensive items made Cale’s heart race with excitement. He wanted to touch and take everything.

But then he suddenly realized that this place looked like a really fancy cave.

“Uncle… are you a d-dragon?” Cale stuttered. Dragons were proud beings, and only a very few of them existed.

Meeting one could only mean trouble for Cale, but there was no doubt this was a dragon's lair.

However, Eruhaben didn’t perceive Cale’s voice as negative. Instead, he saw it as that of a nervous but curious child who had always wanted to see a dragon.

Without noticing, Eruhaben’s lips curled into a smile. He gave a little hum before saying, “What if I am, little one?”

Cale felt like he had really messed up. He had thought this golden man was an elf.

‘Fuck.’

Chapter Text

Sayeru was panting heavily, his body covered in wounds. While none of the injuries were fatal, the pain was excruciating, feeling worse than death itself.

He had made a serious mistake and fully anticipated a severe punishment from his liege.

As soon as White Star learned that his son was missing, he immediately dispatched hundreds of his people to search the entire Endable kingdom.

Once Fredo heard what had happened, he immediately joined the search as well.

The bear king had never seen his liege so angry, yet also deeply concerned. Despite his efforts to mask his worry, White Star's anxiety was still evident to Sayeru.

The deep sighs, the frequent glances around, and the way White Star often ran his hand through his hair in frustration all betrayed his underlying concern.

Those were unmistakable signs of a worried father, but Sayeru knew better than to mention it out loud if he wanted to keep his life.

At that moment, the duke entered with a torn scroll in hand. (I think those scrolls would vanish once used but papa White Star needs a clue.)

“My liege, I found this in the room where the teleportation scrolls are stored. The door was also slightly opened.”

Fredo immediately handed the used scroll to the White Star or rather was immediately ripped out from his hands once he finished his sentence.

“Ten Finger Mountains…”,the White Star mumbled.

It was close to Mount Yellia (tbh I can't remember if Yellia was one of the ten Finger Mountains but it is now.)

It was the scroll used to travel to the elf village, where it was rumored that the ancient dragon Eruhaben also resided.

White Star had originally planned to either kill the gold dragon or capture him as a gift for his son.

But for now, the dragon wasn't the main concern. It was more likely that Cale had played with the scroll and ended up being teleported there.

"Why wasn't the door locked?" White Star asked, but he quickly dismissed the question as irrelevant given the urgency of the situation.

“I will head out.”

White Star couldn’t wait any longer. His son was in a dangerous situation, exposed to cruel temperatures he had never experienced before.

He regretted not placing a magical tracker on Cale. It had been a mistake to think it wasn’t necessary at his age.

“I will co-”

“No!”

Fredo was about to offer to join the search when White Star interrupted him. Despite the interruption, Fredo chose to ignore his liege's words and followed him anyway.

White Star was so absorbed in his urgent thoughts that he didn't even notice Fredo following him.

“Haaa…”

Eruhaben lost count how often he sighed today.

He never imagined he would end up taking in a small child and preparing food for him.

He went outside to get all the ingredients to cook a nutritious meal for Cale, who was distractedly playing with some pearls as if they were marbles.

The ancient dragon wore a cute pink apron he had found in the corner of his wardrobe. While he typically used magic to prepare food, he decided it would be good to set an example for the child by cooking the meal himself.

The goal was to spark Cale's interest in cooking and give him a chance to learn by watching. Even though Cale was a noble, it never hurt to acquire such skills.

He even placed Cale on his lap and cut vegetables with him before Eruhaben began cooking. Naturally, the dragon kept the sharp knife to himself, allowing Cale only to watch.

It wasn’t long before Eruhaben gave up, as Cale kept reaching for the shiny knife or Eruhaben’s hair. This distraction eventually led to the situation they were in now with Cale playing on the ground.

Eruhaben still had to keep an occasional eye on Cale to ensure the child wouldn’t get up and cause any damage to his lair.

Once the meal was ready, Eruhaben placed it on the table, picked up Cale, and sat down in a chair with him.

The ancient dragon didn’t have a child’s chair and saw no point in getting one, as Cale wouldn’t be staying for long.

So, placing Cale on his lap was the best solution for now.

Eruhaben watched as Cale, with his clumsy little hands, grabbed the spoon and began eating.

"Not even a thank you for the food?" the ancient dragon scolded.

"Thank you, Uncle," Cale said with his mouth full. Though it wasn’t very polite, it was sufficient for Eruhaben, who nodded in satisfaction.

At least the kid wasn’t too messy while eating. Occasionally, Eruhaben had to clean Cale’s mouth with a napkin, but nothing was spilled on him.

Even though Eruhaben had rarely interacted with humans, he was well aware of how children grow and develop. Despite Cale acting like a brat from time to time, Cale's development seemed ahead than other children his age.

“Goldie's food is very yummy!”

The ancient dragon's lips curled up at those words, not even noticing what Cale had called him.

Seeing the human child reminded Eruhaben of his past when he used to help young dragons and teach them magic and other skills.

However, he wouldn’t admit that he missed those days. The young dragons had been little rascals, far more troublesome than Cale.

After the kid finished eating, Eruhaben cleaned his mouth one last time before carrying Cale toward the bed.

He knew it was important for children to have their naps.

With his magic, he transformed some fabric into sleepwear, and with another snap of his fingers, Cale was changed into them.

Sparkling eyes looked up at Eruhaben.

“Goldie is amazing.”

Cale's childlike mind was truly amazed by the magic, but he was also buttering up the dragon, having noticed how much Eruhaben appreciated compliments.

After all, Eruhaben was a proud dragon.

It was an opportunity to loot the dragon's lair before the White Star would find Cale.

“Now take your nap.”

Before Eruhaben could pull the blanket up to Cale's chin, Cale began to speak.

“Papa would always give choco after my nap.”

It was completely made up; the White Star never gave Cale sweets after his nap. However, his father often took a nap with him.

Eruhaben sighed, thinking that Cale was rather spoiled, but he nodded.

“Only if you behave and sleep till I wake you up.”

A smile appeared on Cale’s face; he hadn't expected it to be so easy to convince Eruhaben.

His father was able to see through his tricks and attempts to act cute and pitiful. Those tactics wouldn’t work on him anymore for extra chocolate.

But at least they still worked on Sayeru, and now even on Eruhaben.

“Now sleep.”

Cale closed his eyes, feeling Eruhaben's gaze on him for a few minutes. Once he heard the door close as Eruhaben left, Cale opened his eyes again.

The room was dark but not pitch black. After a few more minutes, Cale carefully stood up, hoping the dragon wouldn’t hear him.

He glanced around the room, curious to see what Eruhaben kept in his bedroom.

In addition to the luxurious furniture, the room featured numerous paintings, several piles of gold coins, and various types of jewelry.

It was heaven for Cale.

Cale was about to explore further when he tripped over a rolled-up carpet, falling face-first onto the ground. The sudden impact made him cry out and start sobbing immediately.

He cursed his small body for not being able to stay quiet.

Eruhaben entered the room and saw Cale in the middle of the floor. Shaking his head, he approached the child and picked him up, cradling him to comfort him.

“There’s no need to cry; the pain won’t last long.”

Shortly after, Eruhaben gently placed Cale back in his bed. His expression then shifted to one resembling a strict parent.

“No chocolate.”

“Shit.”

Cale blurted out something without realizing it, and Eruhaben's eyes widened in shock.

"Who taught you that?"

Notes:

There are two different kinds of 1,000-year-olds:

One who pursues destruction and learns countless ways to kill

and one who studies different species and lives but never leaves his home.

One thing they have in common...not being able to handle Cale

Chapter 19: Question

Chapter Text

It's been quite a while, which was not my intention, but to make my excuse short, I had exams and writing blockage.

I miss Papa White Star and Baby Cale; however, I am no longer satisfied with the story (another reason why I didn't continue). I want to rewrite the story entirely.

But I also don't want an angry mob running after me. My plan is to leave the recent work still on Ao3 and upload the rewrite as a new post, but if you want me to leave everything as it is and just continue, then please tell me in the comments.

If you don't want a rewrite, I will give you my best and upload it again more often.

I hope you've been well!
