AN: Ya’ll have Tik Tok to blame for this one. Someone made a Tik Tok about This song from Eddie’s point of view if Chris and Buck didn’t survive the tsunami, and my insane gremlin brain went “write a fic”! So here ya go. Be warned angst ahead!!!
AN2: The title of this story comes from Taylor Swift’s song “Bigger than the whole sky”

Bigger Than The Whole Sky

~(^.^)~

No words appear before me in the aftermath

Salt streams out my eyes and into my ears

Every single thing I touch becomes sick with sadness

Cause it's all over now

All out to sea

Eddie stared down at the two gravestones in front of him. One slightly bigger than the other. Water rolled down his face and down the back of his shirt, but he paid no mind to the rain pouring down around him. He couldn’t bring himself to look away from the two gravestones. Couldn’t bring himself to care that he was soaked straight to the bone from all the rain. Nothing mattered anymore. Not now that the two most important people in his life had been taken from him. Swept out to sea.

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

You were bigger than the whole sky

You were more than just a short time

And I've got a lot to pine about

I've got a lot to live without

I'm never gonna meet

What could've been, would've been

What should've been you

What could've been, would've been you

His shoulders shook as he sobbed, his heart shattering over and over again. When the tsunami had first hit, he hadn’t known they’d been there. He thought they’d been at the movies. That whole day, he’d worked to save others, not knowing that his family was already dead. That they’d been killed when that first wave hit the pier. It wasn’t till he got home later that night to find an empty house that he realized something was wrong. And then he’d spent the next several hours calling person after person, trying to find out if anyone knew where his son and best friend was. And everyone quickly realized they hadn’t heard from or seen either of them since the tsunami hit.

Did some bird flap its wings over in Asia

Did some force take you because I didn't pray

Every single thing to come has turned into ashes

Cause it's all over

It's not meant to be

So, I'll say words I don't believe

For days they’d searched for them. For days he’d hoped and prayed that they’d be found, alive. And then five days after the tsunami, his hopes had been shattered. Their bodies had finally been recovered by another station. Eddie, Maddie, and Bobby had been called in to identify the bodies. The sight of the two of them lying there, cold and grey, faces covered in scratches, chests still and unmoving, had broken him. He didn’t really remember much of the next few days. Everything had gone by in a blur. He didn’t even really remember the funeral. He’d been lost in a numb haze, unable to process anything around him. What he did remember was asking Maddie to have Buck buried next to Chris, something she’d whole heartedly agreed on. They both knew that Buck wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. It wasn’t till after the funeral, when he’d been left alone at their graves, when the sky had finally opened up and started pouring down on him, that he finally broke and started sobbing uncontrollably.

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

You were bigger than the whole sky

You were more than just a short time

And I've got a lot to pine about

I've got a lot to live without

I'm never gonna meet

What could've been, would've been

What should've been you

Eddie reached out to both gravestones, wishing that he was reaching out for Buck and Chris’ hands instead. His legs gave out on him, and he fell to his knees. He was never going to see either of them again. He was never going to hold either of them again. He was never going to hear their voices ever again. He was never going to get to tell either of them that he loved them ever again. He wasn’t going to get to watch Christopher grow up. He wasn’t going to get to tell Buck just how he felt about him. They’d been stolen away from him, and he was left to go on alone without them.

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

You were bigger than the whole sky

You were more than just a short time

And I've got a lot to pine about

I've got a lot to live without

I'm never gonna meet

What could've been, would've been

What should've been you

A hand landed on his shoulder, and Eddie looked back to find Bobby standing behind him. Chim and Hen stood on one side of Bobby, while Athena stood on his other holding Bobby’s hand. All of them had eyes just as red as his own from crying. Eddie lurched to his feet, throwing himself into Bobby. Arms came around him, pulling him close to Bobby’s chest, and he buried his face in Bobby’s neck and sobbed. They stood there for a few minutes, before Athena put an arm around both of them and started pulling them towards the cars. Eddie let himself be lead away from Buck and Christopher’s graves, that numb feeling returning once more. They reached the cars, and Bobby opened the back door of his car for Eddie. He glanced back one last time, and for a moment he could have sworn that he saw Buck and Christopher standing there at their graves, waving goodbye. But then they where gone, and the hole in his heart grew even bigger. He turned away from the graves, and silently climbed into the car.
