Private Practice

Summary:

L’s love of sugar places him in the crosshairs of the most exclusive dentist in Tokyo– Light Yagami. However, a private dental practice is the best place for a centuries-old vampire to hide in plain sight, and L is just his type.

Chapter 1: Sugar-Free

Chapter Text

“I fail to see why you can’t handle all of my medical issues. Why must I go see a dentist? This is entirely unnecessary,” L muttered, holding back a huff as he stared out the car window. He had already voiced his protest a few times prior to leaving, and after attempting to give Watari the silent treatment failed, he decided to speak up again. “Truly, it would be simpler for both of us if you just-...”

“Went to dental school? I think not.” Wammy sighed and glanced in the rearview mirror briefly. “That’s enough, L. The less you complain and stall, the quicker we can get this over with. Dr. Yagami came with the highest recommendation and has a reputation for discretion.” He pulled the Rolls Royce limo into an underground parking garage and, after entering in a code, proceeded past the gate to park by an elevator.

L sighed, making a face. “My dental hygiene is adequate,” he grumbled, folding his arms on top of his knees. His mood was already foul when he woke up this morning, and having a surprise dentist visit sprung on him didn’t help. Though I know he has to surprise me or else I try to cancel it behind his back. He remained silent as the older man parked, pointedly refusing to look at Wammy when he opened the door. Undoing his seatbelt and stepping out, L kept his eyes on his shoes. In truth, visits to the dentist made him extremely uncomfortable. The tools unsettled him, conjuring images of horror films and crime scenes in his mind.

“Come, L,” Wammy murmured, reaching out and taking the man’s hand to keep him from trying to escape. He pulled him along to the elevator, knowing that trying to convince the young man was a pointless task. Once they arrived at the main floor, he led L out and approached the front desk. “Good afternoon. We’re here for my ward’s appointment. Rue Ryuzaki, 9 am exactly.”

“Hello!” Misa beamed from across a highly polished white marble reception desk, dressed in a low-cut nurse’s outfit. “Welcome to Yagami and Son, where we love to make you smile!” She grinned to show all of her perfectly aligned, pearly teeth, tilting her head and giggling in an idol pose. “Dr. Yagami will be ready for you shortly. Please fill out this form before your appointment.” She handed a clipboard and pen to Wammy when ‘Ryuzaki’ didn’t seem interested in taking it.

The walls of the reception room were lined with photographs of famous people from the last 150 or so years, all standing beside a very attractive Japanese man in various styles of clothes as the decades changed. It couldn’t be the same man (obviously) so this must be where the ‘Yagami and Son’ came in, although perhaps there were a few more generations than one. Certainly, they all bore a striking family resemblance. Historical figures and celebrities from all over the world grinned happily to show off Dr. Yagami’s work, ranging from Winston Churchill to Marilyn Monroe to members of global royal families. In some of the newer photographs, Dr. Yagami was accompanied by modern pop idols and movie stars. Misa also appeared in a few of them, but only the most recent.

L frowned, regarding the photos with mild suspicion. Are his family genetics truly that strong? Or are these photoshopped in jest? He assumed the latter as he sat down in a chair beside Wammy, pulling his knees up to his chest. “...may I at least go back to the appointment alone?”

“For what reason?” Wammy asked as he filled out the short form, mostly forged information aside from L’s blood type, allergies, and... Blood-borne illnesses? For tests or transfusions if something goes wrong, I suppose. “You have no reason to be nervous, Ryuzaki. If your dental hygiene is as ‘adequate’ as you say it is, then this will be a very brief appointment.” He knew this was absolutely inaccurate, based on the immense number of sweets L consumed on a daily basis. I pray he doesn’t have too many cavities.

L looked away, frowning. “...because I’m an adult and I would prefer to go back there alone. That is all.” For once, he didn’t have any ulterior motives. He had accepted his “tragic” fate at this point, and was merely trying to salvage what little pride he could manage.

“Aww, someone’s grumpy.” Misa pushed her bottom lip forward in a pout. “I have just the thing for that!” She produced a sugar-free lollipop from behind the counter and held it out to Ryuzaki. She usually saved them for whiny children but it might do for whiny adults too.

Wammy hummed in affirmation and stood up, carrying the form and clipboard back over to the desk. “Here you are.” He offered Misa a polite smile as he handed the clipboard over. “Can you give me an estimate on how long the wait time will be?”

“Tsk tsk! Dr. Yagami doesn’t like being rushed.” Misa waggled a red-lacquered finger as she took the clipboard back and entered the information into their computer. “I should know! I’ve been waiting for him to ask me out for three years!” She sighed in the direction of the most recent picture on the wall, where Dr. Yagami had strategically positioned himself far from Misa with Beyonce between them. “Good things take time.” Another heavy sigh and she perked up again. “Alright, I can take you back now, Ryuzaki.”

L stared at Misa for a moment, as if judging whether or not it was a trap, before taking the lollipop. He started to unwrap it, but Wammy immediately snatched it out of his hand.

“Not right before your appointment,” Wammy scolded L quietly. “You can have it after. Now go.” He turned and left the sulking man, sitting down in the waiting area.

L huffed quietly and returned his attention to Misa. “Let’s go, then,” he muttered, stuffing his hands into his pockets.

When Misa had led L down the hall and the door to the reception had shut behind them, she whispered, “Maybe he needs it more than you do. I’ll give you some more on the way out.” She winked and continued down the hall until they stopped at an examining room. “Just in here. Please make yourself comfortable on the chair.” She motioned to a cushy white leather chair that reclined and had the usual medical lighting above it. Other than the built-in desk, tasteful cabinets, and Dr. Yagami’s degrees hung on the wall, the room was sparse but also quite comfortable. Chopin was being softly played from hidden speakers and everything looked and smelled immaculately clean.

L sighed, sitting down in the chair and attempting to relax. Admittedly, the music and comfort of the chair was putting him at ease. He kept his knees at his chest, looking around the room at the various degrees. His curiosity about this mysterious doctor was piqued. He’s extremely attractive, I’ll give him that. And it takes a lot to be seen as “reputable” by Wammy, but something just seems...off here.

Light passed Misa in the hall and took the clipboard for his next patient. This one’s type A. My favorite. He stopped and read it over as he spoke to her in a bored tone. “Miss Amane, do we need to have another discussion about the dress code in the office?” He eyed her low-cut outfit and miniskirt with a blithe gesture.

“Aww, Light, I know you didn’t really mean that. Plus, the patients seem to love it!” She bent over slightly to give him an even ‘better’ view but huffed when he looked back to the clipboard.

“I pay your wages, not the patients, Miss Amane. Please dress professionally or seek another job.” Light breezed past the huffing blonde and into the exam room. He smiled at the new patient as he put on a fresh white coat over his tailored grey suit. “Good morning, Ryuzaki-san. I’m Dr. Yagami.” He bowed slightly and then held out his hand to the patient, unsure if this man was truly Japanese or not. He was used to treating people from all over the world so was well-versed in various etiquette.

L perked up slightly as Light entered the room, looking the man over. Incredibly young. How has he already acquired so many degrees? Did he graduate early? “Good morning,” he muttered in Japanese, hesitating before shaking the man’s hand. “It’s nice to meet you.” While he was very fluent, his accent still came through when he spoke. He’s much more attractive in person, somehow.

Light stared at Ryuzaki for a moment, taking in the man’s odd appearance. “I have the strangest feeling we’ve met before.” It was unlikely but not an uncommon feeling given his inordinately long life. Four hundred years is a long time to meet people.

“No, I don’t believe we have,” L muttered, surprised that his usual instinct to lean away from someone this close to his personal space wasn’t present right now. Odd. Something about him almost calms me.

Light’s smile widened as he released Ryuzaki’s hand and sat on a rolling stool, bringing himself very close to the patient. “Your grandfather indicated that you see a dentist infrequently and that you eat a lot of sugary things.” His gaze was drawn to Ryuzaki’s long neck and specifically to the slightly throbbing jugular vein. His heightened senses could detect the heartbeat, could smell how delicious this one’s blood might be. He licked his lips unconsciously. “Do you have any specific concerns today?”

L watched Light carefully, his heart skipping a beat when he saw the man’s tongue flick across his lips. Focus. Stay professional. He averted his gaze, instead looking at his own jeans. “No, I don’t have any concerns. He brought me here to have my teeth checked, that is all.” He swallowed hard, noticing some of the dental tools in his peripheral vision, his anxiety promptly spiking.

Light immediately sensed Ryuzaki’s elevated pulse and glanced at the tools. “Do you have anxiety with dentists?” He touched the controls of the reclining chair and it smoothly eased back. “I have headphones if you prefer, or sleep masks if you don’t wish to see me. Valium or even sedation is an option some patients choose.” He smirked since nearly none of them chose the sleep mask. He could usually set people at ease once they got comfortable with him. “A cleaning shouldn’t be painful but I will need you to sit still for me.”

“Not dentists specific-!” L jolted slightly as the back of the chair began to move, shifting uncomfortably as he debated on what to do, before finally giving in and stretching out his legs. He leaned back into the seat, subconsciously clutching the cushion and his sleeves. “...not dentists specifically. I am simply not fond of sharp...tools.” He bit his lower lip, a faint shade of red tinting his cheeks. Normally, nothing made him feel shame, but he felt this unusual urge to impress Light. “I’ll be fine, but thank you for your concern.”

Light nodded and pulled down the overhead lights, picking up a small mirror tool. “This one’s not sharp. Just going to have a look.” He held it up for Ryuzaki to see clearly. He gently placed a hand on the man’s neck and positioned it slightly, a thrill shooting through as he thought about how easy it would be to just lean in and take what he was craving. No. This one’s grandfather is in the next room. He had a strict no-kill policy in the office anyway. “Open your mouth,” he purred, getting quite close to Ryuzaki’s face.

L’s breath hitched quietly when Light drew even closer. For a second, it seemed like he wasn’t going to obey. Blinking, he opened his mouth wide for the man, forcing himself to look away. Don’t. Just distract yourself. You don’t want to get any “reactions” you can’t deny or explain away. He did his best to keep his mind from wandering, ignoring how soft Light’s touch felt against his skin. He truly is beautiful.

Light pushed his thumb against Ryuzaki’s bottom lip to hold it down, using very soft pressure. “Good, hold it open, just like that.” He used the mirror to look around, top and bottom, front and back. Although there was definite evidence of no flossing, and some early gum retraction, nothing looked as bad as he expected for someone who ate a lot of sweets. He didn’t rush, and when the man’s tongue got in the way, gently pressed it down with his index finger so he could look at the molars all the way in the back.

L quivered slightly when he felt Light’s finger brush against his tongue, a shiver running up his spine in a very pleasurable way. That’s new... He moved his tongue again, trying to be subtle about it to make the man push against his tongue again. He could feel himself stirring faintly in his pants. Don’t push it, stop. Just stop. His eyelids fluttered briefly and his heart was racing. While he knew this should have been extremely uncomfortable, something about Light’s fingers in his mouth was really turning him on.

Light’s pupils expanded slightly as he noticed Ryuzaki’s reactions but he kept a professional, neutral expression. The human’s arousal was filling the air, as noticeable to him as perfume, and making him excited in kind. He’s enjoying this. An oral fixation, how fitting. Despite appearing to concentrate on his patient’s teeth, he pressed down the man’s tongue again while stroking it subtly. “I don’t see any cavities, surprisingly. But you’ll have a few soon if you don’t improve your brushing and flossing habits.” He pressed another finger into Ryuzaki’s mouth to shift his tongue further, but his fingertip brushed against the wet muscle sensuously. “The light staining tells me you’re a coffee drinker…hmm, but it’s not worth worrying about yet.”

L’s cheeks took on a slight shade of red, his cock hardening in his pants as he felt Light stroking his tongue. Is- is he doing that on purpose..? No, that’s nonsensical...but- He let out a shaky breath on instinct, closing his eyes. I need to calm down. I can’t stand up like this, and I certainly can’t let Wammy see. He moved his tongue out of the way to prevent any further accidental stimulation.

Light removed his finger and the mirror tool, scooting his rolling chair over to the sink. He washed his hands and just the tool in some sterilizer as he thought over his plan for this one. I have to taste him but it’s too dangerous here. Maybe I can at least get him to come back. Ryuzaki had abruptly stopped responding which may mean he went too far, or perhaps he’d read too much into everything. He did have a habit of doing that when a target was of special interest.

“Other than a cleaning, I don’t see anything else I need to do today,” he said over the running water. “However, I’d like to see you back in a week to check that your habits have improved.” He glanced over his shoulder and caught sight of the bulge in the man’s pants, smirking faintly. Not reading too much into it after all.

Swallowing hard, L gave a shaky nod. “Alright, I’ll be here in a week,” he murmured, his mouth suddenly feeling quite dry. Dammit, I can’t stand up like this..! “A cleaning?” He glanced over at Light. While having the man’s fingers near his mouth again wasn’t the best idea, he needed to buy some time for his body to calm back down. He squirmed, biting down on his lower lip as he felt his pants rub against himself. “I-I see...what sort of flavors of toothpaste do you have available?” Of course, this question completely gave away how young he was the last time he saw a dentist.

Light chuckled and opened his drawer of toothpastes to look them over. “Grape, cherry, bubblegum, and ah…mint.” It had been a while since he’d seen children in the office so he didn’t keep many flavors on hand. “I’d recommend the cherry. Honestly, the grape and bubblegum taste awful.” He scooted closer again with his tooth polisher and a water squirter in his hands. If it hadn’t been for his white coat, Ryuzaki might have seen that he was a little aroused as well, but it hid a multitude of sins.

“Cherry will do,” L muttered, watching Light carefully. “I enjoy cherries very much, although I prefer strawberries over cherries.” Why are you saying this? He doesn’t care. You’re embarrassing yourself. He eyed the tools the man held, relieved to not see anything sharp or dangerous-looking. Though the water used to always make me jump...certainly not anymore, right? I’m an adult now. He shifted in the seat, trying and failing to relieve some of the pressure as he forced his attention to the ceiling.

“Perhaps I can get some strawberry for you next time,” Light cooed as he leaned over Ryuzaki. He used his thumb to press the man’s lip down and open his mouth again, getting to work right away. Once Light was focused on a task, he did it perfectly and efficiently, and didn’t push his luck any further than he already had. However, he was learning slightly against Ryuzaki’s hip as he worked, pressing against a certain throbbing something.

L felt as if he was swooning over the sound of Light’s voice. Something about the man had burrowed its way into his mind, taking up residence there. His soft touch, his silky tone, and his appearance was making L think things he hadn’t thought of in a while. He exhaled shakily from his nose when he felt pressure near his erection, his eyelids growing heavy. Fuck, even just that feels so good, is he doing it on purpose..? He did his best to keep his eyes up, staring at the different patterns in the ceiling tiles- but the slight touch from Light was making that distraction fail miserably.

Light finished quite quickly—after nearly 40 years of practice he could do this in his sleep—and squirted a bit of water in Ryuzaki’s mouth. “Don’t swallow,” Light teased, murmuring much quieter as he turned away for a cup, “…this time.” He held the cup under Ryuzaki’s mouth with a knowing smile, still pressed against the man’s hip. “See? Nothing to be nervous about. Hopefully I’ve helped you get over your fear of dentists a little.”

While L certainly didn’t swallow the water, he heard the remark from Light and half-choked on the liquid, his eyes bulging. A joke. It’s just a filthy joke. Don’t read into it. The red in his cheeks was much more pronounced as he spit into the cup. He could feel a whine building in his throat as the teasing pressure lingered. This isn’t fair. What did I do to deserve this? “I don’t fear dentists,” he muttered, looking at Light properly. “I have a reasonable apprehension against sharp tools invading my mouth. There’s a difference.”

“It would be reasonable if you weren’t in my hands,” Light scoffed. “There’s a difference.” He laughed quietly and finally pulled back, standing up to put his tools away. “In any event I’m done. I’ll see you back in a week.” He glanced at Ryuzaki’s pants and then at a closed door on the other side of the room. “If you need to use the restroom before checking out at reception feel free. It was very nice to meet you, Ryuzaki.” He bowed politely, grinning enough for his patient to see a hint of his elongated incisors, before leaving the exam room.

Blushing a bright shade of red, L gave the man a shaky nod. “It- it was nice to meet you, too...” He trailed off, the image of the man’s unusually sharp teeth lingering in his mind. While he couldn’t connect the dots or determine what any of this meant, his instincts told him that something about Light Yagami was dangerous. Instead of frightening him or making him wary, however, this feeling only excited him. Wetting his lips, he stood up and hurried to the restroom, shutting and locking the door behind him. He didn’t take the time to truly pleasure himself, working his cock almost frantically towards release before stuffing himself back into his pants. It wasn’t satisfying, but the goal was to make himself presentable again.

L left the room once he was decent, returning to the waiting room and approaching the desk. “I-...my appointment has finished,” he murmured, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. “He said-...”

Watari walked up behind L, resting a hand on the man’s shoulder. “I trust the payment and everything is already handled? Will any future appointments need to be scheduled? Surgery? Removal?” He asked Misa, almost ignoring L, as if he didn’t think he could get reliable answers from the man.

Misa tapped on the computer keys and shook her pigtails. “Just a follow up in one week! Dr. Yagami has some instructions…wait just a moment.” She skipped over to the printer and took the print-out, handing it to Ryuzaki. “Make sure you brush in a circular pattern,” she said as she demonstrated with cheerful exaggeration. “And floss after every meal! If you do a good job, he won’t need to see you again until your checkup in 6 months. Thank you for choosing Yagami and Son!” She waved cutely and pressed another sugar-free lollipop into Ryuzaki’s hand.

L’s eyes lit up and he promptly unwrapped the treat, popping it into his mouth before Wammy could take it from him. He ignored the way the older man sighed and led him out of the clinic and back to the car. Does this mean that if I do a bad job, I can see him more often..? Something worth considering...for personal investigative purposes only, of course. Something about him simply aroused my suspicion and curiosity. He made a face. …is this sugar-free?
