Work Text:
“Come on, Draco, it’ll be fun,” Hermione said, bouncing on her heels as she stared out the large window of Draco’s flat. She wore an excited grin as she watched the snow fall slowly from the sky. It was the first snow of the season and she really wanted to mess around in it with her boyfriend. She peered at him, grinning. “Come on, Draco,” she repeated, grinning at him. "Just for a few minutes."
“But it’s cold,” Draco protested from his spot on the sofa. He was wrapped in a warm blanket, a cup of hot chocolate in his hands. “And I just want to sit here where it’s warm.” He looked at her pleadingly. “Come on, Hermione. Wouldn't you rather snuggle with me here?” He held open the blanket, inviting her to join him.
“We’ll wear plenty of layers; you can wear that nice jumper from Molly! And we’ll cast Warming Charms,” Hermione said matter-of-factly. She looked to Draco, a pleading gaze on her face.
“I am not wearing that orange monstrosity,” Draco huffed, shaking his head.
“Come on, it’s sweet that she made you that jumper,” Hermione countered. “She thinks of you as part of the family. And she put a lot of work and love into that.”
Draco shook his head once more. “I’m glad that she thinks that and that she likes me now, but I’m not wearing it.”
“It’s warm,” she countered. “And the colour is lovely with your eyes.”
“No it doesn’t,” he countered.
“Yes, it does,” she smirked at him. “Come on; you know you secretly love that jumper.”
“I don’t want to go outside,” Draco whined, effectively trying to change the subject away from the jumper that haunted his dreams.
“Pleaseee,” Hermione begged, pouting at him pleadingly. “Just a few minutes in the snow, and then we’ll come back in, and you can get warmed back up! I’ll even make you another cup of hot cocoa when we come back inside.” When Draco doesn’t answer, she smiled, realising she had an ace up her sleeve. “With marshmallows,” she added, grinning at him suggestively.
He arched a brow. “The big ones? That you keep hidden?” His voice was low but full of eagerness.
She laughed. “I have to keep them hidden, or else you’d eat the entire bag in one sitting, and then we wouldn’t have any for hot cocoa.” She gave him a knowing look.
“But they’re so good,” Draco said, a dreamy expression on his face. “So… hot cocoa and marshmallows? In exchange for going outside with you?”
Hermione smiled, knowing that she just about had him. He was addicted to those marshmallows.
“Hermione,” Draco whined, but he knew it was pointless. She had him right where she wanted him.
“Just look at how lovely it looks,” Hermione said as she looked back out the window. “It’s so mesmerising.” She sighed happily. “I could watch it snow all day long.” She looked at him over her shoulder. “Don’t you just want to play in it?”
"Not really," he said. When she didn't respond, he laughed quietly. “It is going to snow all day long, you know. The forecast showed we’d get a good amount,” Draco said matter-of-factly. He stood up, sighing as he unwrapped himself from the blanket. “Come on, then.”
“Really?” Hermione turned, excitement in her eyes. “I’ll grab our Weasley jumpers!” She dashed towards the bedroom, ignoring Draco’s pained shout of, “No!”
She came back, their two jumpers in her hands. She handed Draco his and then slipped on her own. Draco complained the entire time, but he put the jumper on.
Hermione and Draco took turns casting Warming Charms on each other. When they were both ready, Draco turned to Hermione. Hermione was practically jumping with excitement, and he wanted to put her out of her misery. “After you!” he said, gesturing for her to go.
Hermione didn’t need to be told twice. She ran past Draco and out the door, thundering down the two flights of stairs and down into the street. She paused on the sidewalk, looking up at the sky, a pleased sigh escaping her lips as she allowed the snow to fall and melt onto her face.
Draco followed her down the stairs, moving slowly as if he could delay the cold. When he made it out to the sidewalk, he shivered. However, the sight of pure joy on Hermione’s face was enough to warm him from the inside out. She looked so happy standing there in the snow. She was beautiful, and it was simple moments like this that he loved her even more. He thanked Merlin every day that Hermione had chosen to forgive him after the war. That they had the opportunity to get to know each other, and, later on, fall in love.
“Come here,” Hermione said, reaching out for him. She wiggled her gloved fingers at him.
He grinned, unable to resist her at this point. He moved towards her before he pulled her into his arms. “You look beautiful.” She looked stunning with the snowflakes on her cheeks.
“And you look so handsome in this orange jumper,” she teased, grinning at him.
"I love you." Draco leant forward, pressing his lips against hers tenderly.
"Draco, I love you so much," Hermione murmured against his lips after they broke apart. "Take me inside, please. I’m ready to get warmed up."
“Ready for hot cocoa?” Draco teased. “I knew you loved those marshmallows too.”
Hermione cheekily grinned. “Actually, Draco, I was thinking we could warm up another way.” He looked at her in confusion before he finally understand what she was getting at when she waggled her brows at him.
"Whatever my witch wants," Draco promised. He kissed her chastely before picking her up and tossing her over his shoulder. Hermione let out a shriek of excitement as he carried her inside and up the stairs to his flat, where they spent the remainder of the afternoon entwined in a passionate embrace.
