Guy/Honey || My Little Stargazer

Summary:

This is the first part of a little writing series me and a few friends are doing for the month of February! The prompt for today was stargazing

Work Text:

“Ugh, it’s freezing out here! Why was I cursed with such a horrible and cruel partner who drags me from my soft and cozy bed at the worst of times,” Guy whined loudly as he trudged after his partner. One of his hands was tightly balled up in the back of his partner’s coat, using them as a guide, while the other was desperately trying to keep his jacket closed.

“You are so dramatic, you know that? It’s not even that bad out, you’ll be fine,” Honey grumbled as they led their shivering boyfriend through the trees. They had woken him up in the middle of the night telling him they had a surprise. During the drive to their current location, Guy had been nothing but intrigued and overly excited. However, at the sight of the densely packed woods with nothing but stars and a flashlight to light their way, Guy was less than hesitant to follow. Claiming that his partner had finally snapped and was about to commit the crime of the century and no one would find his body.

“Me? Dramatic? Why I’ve never been dramatic a day in my life! I have no idea what on earth you’re talking about! How dare you accuse me with such lascivious claims! Why I ought to-”

“Would you pipe down already? Stop complaining, we’re almost there. And if you're good I may even give you a treat,” Honey’s fake enthusiasm dripped like venom from their tongue as they continued leading Guy towards the surprise they’d planned for him. Truth be told, they weren’t one for grand gestures, it just wasn’t something that made them happy. They were happy with the little things, like quality time or just even just a simple “thinking about you” text. But they knew that Guy loved the whole nine yards. He liked to be pampered and fawned over every now and then. And Honey was more than happy to give that to him, or at least, in the ways they knew how. Affection wasn’t their strong suit, but they genuinely did try for him. Seeing him flustered and all melty made them happy.

“Fine fine fine. But if this is where you decide to finally go all Scream on me, can you at least let me pose cute before I meet my maker?” His teasing made Honey let out an exasperated groan. Guy laughed at his partner’s annoyance, throwing his arms around their shoulders and kissing their face. “Okay, okay. I’m sorry, I’ll be good. No more psycho killer jokes I promise. I trust you”. His tone softened as he buried his face into his partner’s neck. Their walking slowed until finally coming to a stop, Honey turning around to face him.

“Well that’s good, because I need you to close your eyes”. Guy’s face dropped immediately as he stared at his partner. “Oh, would you relax? I promise, I won’t let you fall down or run into a tree. I just want this to be a surprise. Please, baby?” they asked, kissing his cheek gently and taking his gloved hands in theirs. Relenting finally, he sighed and nodded, eyes tentatively closing as he held tightly onto his partner’s hands. After a few moments of blindly walking, he noticed the ground becoming easier to walk on when suddenly he felt his partner’s hands over his eyes. Their warmth seeped into his skin like sunlight itself, their fingers so soft and gentle as they led him a few more steps forward.

“What’s with the hand blindfold? You don't trust me or something?” Guy’s voice feigned hurt as Honey chuckled behind him.

“No, I just want to make extra sure the surprise isn’t ruined. Here, stand- yeah. Stand right here. And keep your damn eyes closed or I’m taking you home,” Honey barked, their warmth leaving Guy’s face as they stepped away. A few moments of faint shuffling could be heard in front of him, a curse or two leaving his partner’s lips before it became quiet once again. “Okay, you can open your eyes now”.

“I swear if this is all an elaborate ruse to do the nasty in the woods I-.... Oh. Oh wow”. Guy fell silent as he stared at the scene before him. In front of him was a clearing that had a bed of blankets and pillows laying in the middle, lit up by candles and fairy lights. His partner stood in front of the makeshift bed, clearly embarrassed out of their mind as Guy continued to stand there, completely shell-shocked into silence.

“Stop staring like that. Ugh, I knew this was a stupid idea. Would you just say something already or I’m going home- mmf!” Their embarrassed ranting was quickly cut off by Guy’s lips on theirs, his arms wrapping around their waist and pulling them into him as much as possible. After finally pulling away to breathe, his forehead rested gently on theirs, a soft chuckle escaping from his lips.

“Thank you, Honey. This is beautiful. Definitely preferable to reenacting Friday the Thirteenth. Hey- Ow!” Honey slapped his arm, pulling quickly away from their boyfriend with an annoyed look plastered on their features. Guy’s cackles filled up the cold night air as he fell back into the lush pillows and blankets. Honey sighed and sat down beside him, quickly being taken into his arms and covered in kisses. The feeling of Guy’s laughter vibrating through their skin, warming them up in every sense. “Seriously, this is amazing, baby. But what’s this all for?”

“Well, last week you were complaining about how we never go out much anymore since our schedules never work out. I figured the only time we’d be able to go out is in the middle of the night. And then, you said that thing about wanting to go stargazing and… Well,” they opened their arms up to the heavens, motioning towards the sky full of dimly lit stars. Even this far out into the woods, the stars were barely visible. All of the candles and lights that Honey had set up didn’t necessarily aid in their escapade, but it certainly did up the romantic factor quite a bit.

Guy’s features softened as he stared at his embarrassed partner’s face, drinking in just how beautiful they looked surrounded by the soft lights of the candles. His heart filled with an intense and overwhelming love for his partner as they finally met his eyes once again, a soft smile finding its way onto their face. Guy gently brought a hand to his partner's face, pulling them for another kiss, grinning all the while. Honey sighed and wrapped their arms around his neck, pulling him in close.

“Thank you, Honey. This was very thoughtful of you. It’s not every day my overly grumpy and stand-offish partner goes through the trouble of setting up a midnight picnic that doubles as a fire hazard- OW! Stop- ow- stop hitting! You’re so mean!” Guy’s outcries mixed with giggles fueled Honey’s embarrassed fury as they whacked Guy with one of the pillows that lay in reach of them.

“You are such a jackass! Why do you always do this?” Honey whined, burying their face in Guy’s chest, still lightly hitting him with the pillow. Their attempts at enacting revenge were quickly thwarted as Guy grabbed the pillow and threw it to the other side of the blanket. His entire body shook with laughter as he held on to his partner and tried his best to soothe their righteous anger and bruised ego. They raised their head quickly and grabbed something from their back pocket in a huff. “And for the record, dumbass. The candles aren’t real, they’re remote control. I’m not a complete fool that I’d light a million candles in a forest!” With the press of a button, all of the candles shut off, leaving the string of fairy lights as the couple’s only light source. Upon looking back to their annoyance of a boyfriend, Honey saw Guy’s head upturned to the sky, his eyes fixated on the stars above. His lips parted in an almost astounded smile. Their flustered frustration fizzled out immediately as they gazed lovingly at the amazed look that was plastered on their boyfriend’s face. His eyes practically lit up as he stared at the clear and bright sky above the two. He finally looked back to his partner and motioned for them to come over to him.

“I’m sorry for being a shit. Thank you for this, really. No one… No one’s ever gone to this much trouble for me before. This is incredible,” Guy whispered against their skin, pressing gentle kisses to their neck and face. Honey let out a tired hum and leaned their head against Guy’s. They ran their hand gently down his thigh, rubbing their thumb back and forth in a comforting manner as they stared up into the starlit sky. The two shared another kiss, their hands gently brushing over Guy’s stubble while his arms snaked around their waist.

“You’re worth it”. Honey commented quietly before lying onto their back, pulling their boyfriend back with them. The two spent the next few hours giggling to themselves and pointing out stars. Guy was adamant about making up his own constellations, claiming that one day he would write a book about it. Honey couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity, but encouraged him nonetheless. Their perfect night ended with Guy being practically carried back to the car, his eyes barely opened as the sun began to rise in the distance. The radio played softly as the two drove home, Guy immediately falling asleep with a smile on his face. Honey spared a few glances over to him, and each time their heart would race with adrenaline. They loved this boy more than words could ever express, so for now, the occasional grand gesture would just have to do.
