~ It's Like Squares and Rectangles ~
He asked her once, "What's the difference between a cognitohazard and an antimeme?"
"It's a squares and rectangles thing," Marion answered.
It was the work of a moment for Adam to parse the meaning of this answer.
"You mean like how all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares?"
"Exactly," Marion said. "All antimemes are cognitohazards, but not all cognitohazards are antimemes."
That made sense, but...
"Can you give me an example of something a cognitohazard that isn't an antimeme might do?"
"Make you percieve a full grown man-eating tiger as a harmless kitten. Make you think a sign is a mirror. Make you so terrified that the thing on the other side of a door from you is going to kill you in some horrific way that you can't even think about opening the door without having a nervous breakdown. Make you think a red pen is royal blue."
"Those examples sounded so specific that they must be actual SCPs. Except for that last one, which was definitely from the movie Liar Liar. But wait, the pen in that movie was actually blue, and the truth-telling curse wouldn't let him call it red..."
Now he was starting to wonder if he was misremembering the scene from the movie, and she was laughing at him.
"You're not funny!"
But even though he said that, it was kind of funny and he ended up laughing too.
