Time Will Heal Your Wounds, And I'll Wrap Your Bandages

Summary:

Sent through time, you arrive in the Hisui Region with no friends, no Pokemon, and no memories. A traveler of Space-Time, you're seen as an outsider, suspicious, or even as an omen foretelling disaster. That loneliness is palpable, until you meet the Leader of the Diamond Clan, who immediately befriends you, acting as a guide through this region. The more time you spend with him, however, you realize the friendship might evolve into something greater.

Notes:

Hi everyone! Thanks for checking out my fic! You can call me N for my nickname, if you'd like. This is a male reader x Adaman fic. I do hope you enjoy it, as it's meant to be fluffy with minimal angst and hurt. Adaman is my favorite Legends Arceus character, and I wanted to add a soft, romantic fic to the collection. This chapter starts a little slow by going through much of the tutorial of the game, but I think it adds to the reading experience, so I chose, for a very specific reason, to write some of what happens before meeting Adaman. The tutorial is long, so I do hope it doesn't take away from the reading experience.

This is marked as an 18+, Mature fic. I'm not sure if that rating will make sense when I'm finished with it. I'm not much of a planner for fanfics, so I had general ideas that I write towards, and write to those ideas, coming up with the rest on the way. I'm not sure how this relationship will develop, and if I write something steamy, it might get steamy. Hence, this fic is tagged as 18+ just to be safe. If I decide not to go that route, I'll probably delete this part, as well as change the rating.

Next, for tags, I am a firm believer in tagging potentially upsetting things. I do this in the final chapter of my intro notes for every fic, so people know what to look out for. This fic will have few tags, but if you don't wish for spoilers, feel free to skip these tags. The tag for this chapter is: Light Violence (mentions of blood). I usually don't have fics with a single tag, so this is interesting!

Finally, any comments, kudos, bookmarks are absolutely appreciated. I get motivation from comments, and while I'm motivated to keep writing this, sometimes that motivation ebbs and flows. If you enjoyed the work, please leave me a comment! Comments are my absolute favorite form of feedback. Don't worry about any being too long or short, I love hearing from readers, and knowing what they thought. With that out of the way, I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1: The Caring Side of Time

Chapter Text

Time. The inflexible nature of time weighed upon you. Not once in your many years had seconds failed to span, minutes simply vanishing. Yet now? The once solid foundation of the world eviscerated, unrecognizable in this void. No matter what changed spatially, time was supposed to be unstoppable. The spatial vacuum you floated around in didn’t have that familiar feeling. You shut your eyes, but for how long were you in the dark? How long have you been there?

“Welcome to my realm, human, one that lies beyond the breach of time, away from the eternal universe of space. I am Arceus.” Your eyes opened with alarm, floating through the empty void with only a guiding light present. Where were you? “I sense the alarm in thine voice. Fear not. Time and space torn asunder; thou must seek out all Pokemon in this unfamiliar world and repair the damage done to the domains of my creations.”

You felt your phone slipping out of your pocket as you struggled to reach for it, feeling it would sever connections with the current world if lost. You couldn’t remember anything about it the present. You knew what Pokemon were, you knew how to catch them, and you knew your name. Core memories were fading, perhaps just an aftereffect of the absence of space and time. Arceus spoke more as the figure of the Pokemon in the intense light.

“It foretells on the eve of your 24th year of existence; thou shall travel to the unfamiliar past. That day has come. Time’s sands have stopped flowing from your present moment. When all issues lie resolved, thou shalt have the decision to return to the familiar Sinnoh region, with no more than a moment passed. Now, embark on this journey. Find all Pokemon, then return to me.” The light shone brighter, enveloping the phone and returning it to your hands. Speechless, your body felt heavy. One moment, you were planning your 24th birthday, then you catapulted through space and time. The light faded as your eyesight failed you, the world turning black again.

“Wake up!” You recoil at the harshness of the voice. There’s a panic from the person yelling as you try to move, still processing what happened. He shouts again as your eyes land on three Pokemon surrounding you. You feel miserable, your body reeling from the immense pressure of bending time and space. A playful nudge from a Cyndaquil finally awakens you fully as the man above you continues. “Are you alive?!” He extends a hand to help you up as you take it. “You are! I can hardly believe it! You fell from quite a distance in the sky, yet you hardly have a bruise. I do say a miracle!”

“Where am I? Who are you? W-Why?” You struggled to think of another question as the man introduced himself.

“That fall seems to have done quite a number internally. Laventon’s my name. I’m something of a Pokemon professor. You are aware of what a Pokemon is, aren’t you?” You nod as he inquires further. “You seem lost. Your attire is outlandish, and you seem to be in quite a state. You’re quite lucky these Pokemon insisted on bringing me to Prelude Beach. But now I can round them up and return home!” As if on cue, all three Pokemon ran away, causing the stressed Professor Laventon to run after them.

You stumbled around the beach, the familiar light surrounding the phone guiding you toward it. You pick it up again, a simple message relayed. “Seek out all Pokemon.” How helpful. You make your way to Laventon, in desperate need of help.

“How about a deal, my friend? I can’t keep up with these troublemakers, and you seem capable. If you were to catch these three, I would make the case to our Captain to give you residence free from the dangers of the wild. While these three Pokemon might be relatively tame, many you meet are menaces. May you never encounter a Hippowdon, or I fear for your life.” He said it seriously, as you remembered the Pokemon, the many you had encountered already. Much of your knowledge faded, but you knew their names and the general look.

“I accept. Do you have Poke Balls I can use?” You spoke confidently. The Professor nodded, raising an eyebrow and handing you some primitive Poke Balls. They were both unfamiliar and instantly recognizable. They were heavier than the modern, sleek design, but they would have to do.

“You’re quite mysterious. Poke Balls are a recent invention, my friend. Their use remains limited in the region. I have hardly mastered the art of catching Pokemon! I am eager to see your skill.” Laventon gave you some details about each Pokemon and how to catch them. You focused on the Cyndaquill, determined to catch it first. It was a very different experience, but you had to hide in the grass and wait for the moment to strike. You threw the ball with skill, capturing the Pokemon instantly. You ran ahead as Laventon continued discussing the Pokemon’s descriptions. They were easy catches as you brought the three now-filled Poke Balls to Laventon.

“What skill you possess!” The phone rang loudly, with the markings of Arceus on it. Seek out all Pokemon. Laventon looked at the message, patting you on the back. “Well, we’re in quite a bit of luck. Your odd device instructs you to meet all Pokemon; my goal is to catch all of them. Let’s get you to Jubilife Village, shall we!” It was less of a question than it was a statement. You took in your surroundings, the space-time rift catching your attention. Mount Coronet. You’d made the journey to the top at one point in your life, but the memory was gone. You knew the myths of Arceus; everyone in Sinnoh did; it was a myth no longer. You had interacted with Arceus and now had to get back home.

Given that you didn’t have anywhere to go nor anyone to turn to, you followed Laventon to Jubilife Village, your modern shoes dragging along as you did. Your body was overloaded, and your mind was overwhelmed. You kept pushing yourself as you looked up at the village gate. Jubilife. You squinted; it almost looked like there was a Pokemon on the sign! But given how you felt, now wasn’t the time to investigate; you only followed Laventon as people gathered, whispering about you. You didn’t dare confront or even speak to any of them. They didn’t seem welcoming.

Laventon kept moving, as did you, until you crossed a small river, smelling a waft of delicious food. When was the last time you ate? The feeling of crossing time was debilitating, and while time returned to its flow, it felt like you’d fallen into a vat of ice and swiftly pulled out. You’d recover from the feeling, but the recovery was miserable. You had disregarded Laventon's explanation, unable to process much more information.

“I’ve got to make a swift report to our captain, lest I deal with her fury of admitting an outsider without informing her. Wait here at the canteen, please! You were hungry as you approached Beni, giving out potato mochi. The hunger caught up quickly, your stomach rumbling. He gave a single glance, callously dismissing you. You went to speak, but he silenced you.

“You look suspicious. Go. The Wallflower doesn’t serve people who aren’t a part of the Galaxy Expedition. Find your food on your own.” He pointed away from the canteen with a stern look on his face, shooing you away. Another person approached you, beginning to speak. It was overwhelming; you hadn’t had a moment to catch your breath. She introduced herself as Akari before verbally tearing into your outfit.

“It’s a miracle those clothes haven’t torn to shreds! They’d hardly give you any protection out there. You’re not from around here, so who brought you in?” She began talking about the Professor (especially his clumsiness) before giving you a chance to answer. Laventon returned, interrupting her, patting you on your shoulder.

“I might be a bit unwieldy, but Akari, I think we’ve found a real gem here. A diamond in the rough! Oh, that might be a bit political, given the disputes in the area. Perhaps just a hidden gem.”

“Surely you don’t mean to appoint him to the survey corps! Not without Captain Cyllene’s permission, I’m certain!” Akari seemed outraged but was interrupted by an intimidating figure marching toward the conversation.

“I have allowed it. Conditional on passing our rigorous test, naturally. You may call me Cyllene. Professor Laventon has sung your praises, how you wrangled in the Pokemon that slipped out of his reach. This opportunity to even take this test is your reward for your acts of heroism. If you fail tomorrow, you shall have to find residence elsewhere. You appear to be in your twenties, correct?” You nodded, unsure how much time had passed in the dimension between here and home. You were twenty-three when you left. “How you survived in the wilderness that long, I haven’t a clue. Nonetheless, you will work for your keep, and if you do well, you’ll earn the privilege of joining us. Understood?” You nodded as Cyllene walked off.

“Beni! Some potato mochi for us and our outsider friend, please!” Laventon sat along with Akari. Once the food arrived, Beni commented again on you being an outsider before handing you a plate. He was following orders, even if it was begrudgingly. You were ravenous, tearing into the food with haste. Not desperately clawing it apart, but certainly moving faster than Akari or Laventon. Laventon regaled Akari on how you fell from the sky and caught three Pokemon.

“Three?! Professor, why didn’t you say that from the start!” Akari seemed annoyed before turning to you. “It’s hard to catch even one! I'm excited to see your skills on display tomorrow!” Laventon and Akari continued discussing your arrival. You listened as the sunset, and night was upon you.

“I have complete confidence in your skills tomorrow! You’ll pass the test and be one of us!” Laventon seemed to put a lot of faith in you. You stood up and yawned, surprised you hadn’t collapsed from exhaustion. As if on cue, Cyllene appeared, a stern look gazing towards a building.

“You shall be granted sleeping quarters for a single night. Should you prove yourself useful, those quarters shall remain yours for the foreseeable future. I suggest you rest yourself well, for tomorrow shall be grueling and test whether you will rise to the occasion or be removed from the village and face near-certain death in the wilderness. Please, do not disappoint Laventon or me.” Cyllene began to walk away, filling you with dread.

“She’s much like Husui, cold and harsh. Don’t let her scare you! I need a recruit buddy to help me avoid another thunder strike!” Akari seemed much more cheerful than before as Laventon patted you on the back again.

“Cyllene means well. She doesn’t want you to fail; quite the contrary. She believes that knowing the price of failure will help you avoid it. You would be a tremendous asset to Jubilife Village should you pass. Now, let’s all go to sleep, shall we? There’s been quite a lot of commotion for one day!” You couldn’t agree more. The two went to their quarters as you tiredly moved to yours, sliding the door open and closing it shut behind you. You looked around, finding some sleeping attire from Cyllene. You changed, lying down and falling asleep within moments.

Despite everything, you slept calmly for a while. A few sharp cracks of thunder jolted you awake, and an unfamiliar cry from a Pokemon. Even as it woke you up, you fell asleep with ease again, the weariness accumulated from the day dragging you to sleep. You went to bed early, but you awoke past sunrise. You changed into your previous day’s attire, hoping you’d get a new outfit if you could pass the trial. Akari knocked on your door, presumably to wake you up, right as you stepped out of your quarters.

“It’s a beautiful day out. With all the thunder last night, you’d think it stormed, but this place is dry as a desert! We need to head towards headquarters now, and Captain Cyllene will give you your instructions.” Akari led you to the Galaxy hall; you entered for the first time. Someone was groaning as you walked in, over in the medical bay. Wild Pokemon had attacked him.

“This test will be difficult without a partner Pokemon. But you’re up to the task! You’ll have to catch a Pokemon and report back! I caught Pikachu, and I passed my test without issue.” Akari led you into the room as Cyllene’s face remained unchanged.

“Welcome. I will be direct. You are to do the following: go into the Obsidian Fieldlands and catch a Bidoof, Starly, and a Shinx.” You knew the three Pokemon, you’d even caught them before. Your memories were fuzzy, but you remembered it happening. Akari protested on your behalf, even as you remained unfazed.

“Three Pokemon! No one’s managed to do that, Captain.”

“This stranger caught three just yesterday, Akari. If Laventon was being truthful, and I have little reason to doubt him, this test shall prove easy. Nonetheless, I shall entrust a satchel from the Survey Corps to you for Poke Balls and other necessary materials. Use it wisely. And Akari: You are to step in if disaster strikes, understood?” Akari nodded as the Professor stepped in.

“Pardon me! I must speak with our recruit before he departs!” Laventon pulled you and Akari out into the main hallway, glancing around. “You must pass this trial for your sake and the sake of research. As such, I will entrust you with a partner Pokemon of your own. However, these Pokemon are very dear to me. They are the three you caught just yesterday. I fear parting with one is painful, but I could weather that. Parting with two or three, however, I cannot do. So, I ask you to pick a Pokemon to assist you.”

You took a step forward as Cyndaquill immediately hopped towards you, flaring its quills before the fire subsided, and it laid on your feet. Oshawatt and Rowlet seemed interested in you, but Cyndaquill had chosen you instantly. You gently stroked Cyndaquill’s head as Professor Laventon gave you a minute before calling Cyndaquill back to its ball.

“Well, hard to ignore that! Here’s Cyndaquill. The other two seem to be excited for you two to pass this trial! You’ll see a lot more of them if you do, after all, they all dashed for you when you fell. So make us all proud! You’ve got this! And here, let me give you some additional Poke Balls.” Laventon was generous with them; he seemed willing to invest in your success, even if you were a risk.

“Meet you at the gate!” Akari ran out as you walked behind her, taking in Jubilife Village during the day. It was quaint. For some reason, the words quaint and Jubilife together felt wrong. Was it different in the future? Your memories still were scrambled as you caught up to Akari, as she talked about you to a trader. He turned to face you.

“Well, aren’t you a character! What is that shocking get-up?” You could’ve asked him the same thing but held back. “I’m Volo. I’m part of the Gingko Guild; I’ll sell you anything needed to survive. But I don’t want to sell you anything right now. I’m more interested in the story of the stranger from the sky. Or, to be more accurate, your strength.” While there was a glint in his eyes, you couldn’t tell if it was curiosity or distaste. “Let’s battle, stranger. I’ll be your first trial!” Volo’s eyes narrowed as he sent a Togepi out, the cutest little Pokemon! It looked mischievous. You sent out Cyndaquil, doing battle quickly. Literally, as your Cyndaquill could only Quick Attack. After exchanging a few hits, your first battle was an easy win.

“Isn’t it a rush! The first Pokemon battle. It gets so dreadfully boring with so few trainers around; I’ll keep an eye on you, and I expect another battle! Allow me to help patch up Cyndaquill here.” Volo sprayed a potion on your Pokemon, as it looked good as new. He handed you a few more. “This one’s on the house! You use these to pass your trials, and I’ll have a future customer. It’s a win-win scenario whenever I get what I want!” He chuckled; he was seemingly kind, if not a bit aloof. With that, however, you were off to the Fieldlands.

You took in the beautiful view before beginning your task. You listened to Akari and caught a Bidoof with ease. She continued explaining how to catch Pokemon that were more fearful towards humans and, more importantly, how to capture those hostile towards humans. It didn’t take long before you acquired a Starly and, after a swift battle, a Shinx. Akari was stunned by how easy you made it look as you dusted yourself off, reporting with her back to Laventon.

You three returned to Jubilife with Akari and Laventon praising your talents. Laventon talked about how useful it’d be to have someone as talented working on the Pokedex; Akari excitedly discussed having a survey partner that could hold their own in combat with her. It wasn’t their fault, but they only talked about your usefulness rather than trying to learn anything about you. Sure, there wasn’t much to learn, but they weren’t trying. They were cordial, but if you weren’t of use to them, would they stand up for you?

You tried to shake the thought. You were an outsider to everyone, even those who were friendly to you. You walked through the doors of the Galaxy Hall, making your way to Cyllene. Her typical stern expression broke as you showed her the three Pokemon, the faintest twitch of the corner of her mouth into a smile before she returned to her neutral look.

“Impressive. As Akari herself mentioned, no recruit has been able to pass this test, yet you appear to have done so in record time. For this accomplishment, I welcome you into the Survey Corps. Allow me a moment.” Cyllene walked over to a shelf, grabbed a uniform, then handed it to you. “I’ve gotten quite good at estimating recruits' sizes, so this should fit perfectly. Go change, and return to get your next assignment.” You dipped into the Professor’s office, closing the doors momentarily as you held the uniform.

The moment you put this on, a new path opened up. You remained trapped in the past. Your memories were hazy and only came in moments. But you also didn’t have much of a choice. You had to get back to the future by listening to Arceus, and you could seek every Pokemon by joining the Survey Corps. You changed, dressed in the clean, snug Survey Uniform. It was comfortable. You stepped out as Cyllene pointed you towards the stairs.

“At the very top of this building is Commander Kamado. Introduce yourself, and we will discuss your further tasks afterward.” With that, you ascended the stairs, trying to keep calm as your fate could be changed in a moment. It was clear that he overruled Cyllene and that if he desired your expulsion from the village, it would happen. You continued up the stairs until reaching the top, encountering the older man. You stepped into the room, sensing the immense power he held.

“I am Kamado! Commander of the Galaxy Expedition Team. So you’re the visitor from the space-time rift. And now a member of the Survey Corps, so I hear. You’ve kept me waiting. Enough pleasantries! Come at me! Face me in combat!” You hesitated as he motioned for you to attack him. You charged at him, fist-balled, ready to strike. In one fell swoop, he grabbed your wrist, picked you up, and threw you to the ground with little mercy. You hit the ground rather harshly, coughing as you went to stand up.

“Allow that to be a lesson to you! Not everyone welcomes outsiders kindly. Some have even believed you shall bring disaster from your very arrival. You’ve proven yourself, so you have earned your stay here. Do not fail me. And if you think I was harsh there, remember that the wild Pokemon won’t stop when you fall. Unlike me, they won’t hesitate to kick you when you’re down. Now, go!”

Your body felt sore after that, heading down to meet with Cyllene again. Outsider. That was all they could think of to describe you. How could you hope to stay here when they wouldn’t consider you one of them? You were constantly being whisked one place or another, only to be met with an unfriendly introduction. Cyllene continued, explaining how you were to rank up and receive rewards and learn new, secret crafting techniques. Then, Akari sought to introduce you to the Village people, explaining how to craft certain items and giving a few recipes of her own.

Then it was back to the Fieldlands. Following tasks assigned by Professor Laventon, you began taking notes in your “Pokedex”, doing more than simply catching the Pokemon. He wanted you to attack them with certain types of moves, catch Pokemon without being seen, with all sorts of different tasks. You followed Akari as she helped you out with the research tasks. She also discussed gathering resources by using Pokemon. You needed to craft your own Poke Balls and medicine to keep some money. The day transformed to night as you caught all sorts of new species for the Pokedex. You returned to base, and Cyllene awarded you your first promotion.

Everything was progressing quickly. Akari challenged you to a battle, which you won handily, then you met Zisu, who informed you all about move styles. You hadn’t heard of them before, but your Pokemon responded to these styles. Then, Akari was off again. Did the Survey Corps ever get a break? Someone named Mai had an issue.

“She’s from the Diamond Clan. You don’t know this as an outsider, but we can’t take sides in the conflict. The Diamond and Pearl Clans have almost resolved their issues amicably. We can help them, but there are limits. We do not wish to make enemies out of either of their leaders. We’ve already helped both of them, so they are friendly to us. Our goal here is to build on that. So, if we can help Mai, we will. If we do, we can set up a base camp deeper into the Fieldlands and give you another place to rest up!” Akari spoke, guiding you to the Fieldlands.

You brought your Pokemon with you, now a completed team of six local Pokemon. Your team surely would change with time, but for now, it would work. Akari guided you towards the bridge until you encountered Mai and her Munchlax. Mai looked you up and down, seemingly already exasperated.

“A new face, huh? Well, it doesn’t matter how new you are if you prove competent. I need strength, so prove yourself in battle before I give you the most important of tasks. My Munchlax and I have an intense bond; you must defeat my partner, and then, you can help me.” And so, the battle began. As much as Mai talked up her skills, Cyndaquill handled the Munchlax with ease. “Oh? You’ve got some skill with Pokemon, unlike the rest of the team, save for Akari. I need you to do the following: clear out a meddlesome alpha Pokemon. Find your way to Deertack Heights, and you shall face it.” You didn’t have questions, just seeking to do your job, catching new Pokemon as you explored.

As you ascended to the top, Professor Laventon caught up with you all, ready to observe the battle. Mai explained the sacred area of Wyrdeer you were entering and described the Pokemon. You looked, seeing a Kricketune approaching, glowing red eyes.

“That Pokemon is nothing more than a disturbance. Drive the interloper away at once!” And the battle was on. You had a new Geodude from the climb, yet it wasn’t strong enough to deal with the Kricketune yet. It didn’t faint, but Geodude needed to withdraw before it did. You switched in Cyndaquill, finishing the job and defeating the alpha. Mai healed your Pokemon, praising your skill, as a noble cry rang through the air.

“Wyrdeer.” She spoke as the majestic deer approached you, staring into your eyes with intense purpose. After a moment, it turned around, leaving you in peace. “It trusted you. That’s extremely rare for an outsider of the Diamond Clan. You should feel honored, as do I. It’s hard to believe that Wyrdeer holds you in high regard. Now, a deal’s a deal, Professor. Set up your camp. This outsider has shown that the Galaxy Team is trustworthy; that is enough for me. And you, outsider! I will repay this kindness with a reward soon!” With that, Mai left, and you were to return to Jubilife Village again. The work was exhausting, but you were getting closer to your Pokemon every moment that passed.

You ate your potato mochi, still as good as the night before, then went to sleep. There were a few outfits in your home now, multiple of the Survey Corps outfit courtesy of Cyllene. While there wasn’t a requirement to wear the uniform, it was helpful to have it before you could purchase unique clothing. You changed into a fresh uniform, leaving the hat off to the side, and leaving your quarters, only to be greeted by arguing to your right. Akari, who had been talking to the tailor, approached you.

“They’re running in the Galaxy Hall now. That man, the one rambling about time, was Adaman, leader of the Diamond Clan. And the one who indulged his will to argue about space was Irida, the leader of the Pearl Clan. It’s our job to help them, but their arguing only makes our job harder. At least it’s only arguing now; their discourse used to be far less peaceful. The Commander should be telling you this anyway, as he’s waiting.” Akari nudged you towards the hall as you walked the stairs, greeted by more yelling.

“What do you intend to do about that Kleavor, commander? He might be a loyal descendant of the almighty Sinnoh, but he’s on a rampage!” Irida was unhappy as Adaman spoke, drawing a stare from Kamado.

“You get right to the point, Adaman.”

“Time wasted is time lost.”

“What do you want the Galaxy Team to do? We hardly have the resources to interfere on behalf of the Pearl Clan, not to mention that Kleavor is one of their sacred lords.”

“We can’t sit back and do nothing! As we’re wasting precious time, members of the Galaxy Expedition have faced injury. My people are at risk, and Irida, you must be experiencing issues as a result.”

“Surely you don’t expect us to take up arms against our lord?”

“That’s not what I was sayin-”

“It’s what you were implying! You might as well have said it!” Kamado rubbed his temple, the argument beginning to irritate him as he noticed you.

“You’ve arrived. Adaman, Irida, allow me to introduce our stranger from the rift.” Kamado told them your name as Adaman extended his bandaged arm for a handshake. You accepted; it was firm but still had a gentleness behind it.

“I’m Adaman, leader of the Diamond Clan if you’re formal. But I’m not formal with my friends. You can call me Adaman.” Irida looked you up and down, scoffing at the lack of impression.

“You’re the visitor of the space-time rift? Where almighty Sinnoh is said to reside? You may call me Irida. Caution is my virtue, and I’m cautious of you. Why would Sinnoh allow you, an outsider, to pass through their almighty rift without guidance? Who are you?”

“Enough. This outsider is the perfect solution to our problems. As a brand new Galacy Team recruit, he has interacted with your clans for the first time. He has little experience navigating your squabbles and has no trust in either of you. He shall investigate why Kleavor is frenzied. Understood? Now then, stranger from the rift, your mission is to find the source of Kleavors rage. Many in the Village do not trust you, and you will have to prove yourself worthy in their eyes. Work yourself to the bone, and then keep going.” Kamado wasn’t emotionally detached like Cyllene was; he was direct. His harshness, combined with his distrust of you, made his words far harsher than Cyllene's. You accepted the mission, knowing Cyllene would give you the details. As she spoke, her expression didn’t waver.

“This mission will put you in severe danger. Knowing this, do you still intend to accept the mission?” It was a false choice. You nodded, knowing that the alternative was declining and getting tossed out of the Survey Corps. “Excellent. Do not attempt to catch Kleavor; doing so would put you at fatal odds with the Pearl Clan, and the Galaxy Team shall not interfere on your behalf. Catching one of their lords is akin to treason. Now, the details: The Clans have placed offerings for their lords to appease them before this frenzy. Find out about the offering, and inquire if it can break the barrier holding this rage. Now-”

“Y/N!” Adaman shouted as he and Mai entered the room. “I hoped to find you here, traveler of the space-time rift! You traveled the rift that connects this world and the almighty Sinnoh’s world! Think of it! You were swimming through divine might.” Adaman, taller than you, placed his hands on your shoulders. “Great time traveler, I request a favor. Quell Kleavor. Don’t simply study; get involved. If you can find out how to calm Kleavor, you’d help everyone. The Pearl Clan doesn’t want to involve you but can’t deal with it internally. Their pride can’t help them contain the frenzy. We have a similar problem; a Pokemon in the mountains has gone into a frenzy. Quell Kleavor, and learn its secrets.” Adaman hadn’t let go of you, looking into your eyes with conviction. Mai interjected.

“You’re looking for information? You’ll be sure to find it at Grandtree Arena. Lian, Kleavor’s warden, will give you all the information you could desire on Kleavor. Then a few more hours of information.” Mai’s facial expression showed she spoke from experience; Lian was brilliant regarding Kleavor. Adaman’s hand rubbed your shoulder as he pulled one hand away.

“Kamado didn’t have much faith in you; I don’t know who on the Galaxy Team does. Maybe you don’t have any in yourself. But know this: I have faith in you. I know you’re strong enough to quell Kleavor without harming it and that you will rise to the challenge. I’m counting on you, and I know you’ll succeed.” You couldn’t help but blush noticeably as Adaman smiled before quickly departing. What was that?! He was so comforting. He didn’t seem like the others you had met. He had an agenda, but it felt like his kindness wasn’t conditional. It was out of place.

“Well, my boy, off to see Lian, I suppose! Find Kleavor, study Kleavor, and if you can, quell Kleavor's fury!” Laventon spoke, breaking you from your spacing out. You nodded, walking out of the Galaxy Hall and going towards the Fieldlands. Your heart had been racing as Adaman spoke to you. You didn’t know what you felt, but you did want to make him proud, so you were determined to quell Kleavor’s fury.

You walked up the hill to the Heights Camp, catching Pokemon as you did. You figured you would fill as much of this Pokedex as possible. Once you arrived, you quickly departed, heading deeper into the Fieldlands. Your destination was the Grandtree Arena to seek Lian’s aid. It was a vast area, one that was dangerous. There were frightening Pokemon, and you had minor injuries from taking falls that you misjudged.

As much as you wanted to focus on the mission, Hisui at night was beautiful. The stars shone brilliantly as you navigated through the nocturnal Pokemon that made this region home. You crossed the dam, passing an alpha Bibarel, a terrifying sight. After crossing through the Heartwood, you felt a sense of relief as you came across a young man with the Pearl Clan’s outfit on. Lian.

“Halt, outsider. I am Lian, Kleavor’s warden. I sense your desire to meet Kleavor, nor can I fault you. My lord Kleavor has been struck by an almighty bolt: one that amplifies his power. As such, I must turn you away for your safety.” You immediately objected. You had never heard of a Kleavor before; you didn’t even need to fake your curiosity, though you did take the excitement up a few levels.

“I must see Kleavor, I insist!” You shouted, watching as Lian’s eyes widened and his mouth dropped in shock at your desire.

“You’re making my job harder, outsider! Your desire is pure, but I cannot allow you through. Irida has forbidden any visitors, and her orders are mine to follow. So turn back! ” You reached for a Poke Ball, issuing him a challenge. Lian looked dumbfounded. “You fail to understand that this is for your protection, outsider! Goomy, defeat him!” Lian called forth his partner, an adorable little Goomy. But you had an agenda. You sent out a Staravia, which took care of his Goomy. The two clans had profound bonds with their Pokemon, even if they didn’t catch them.

“I refuse! Even in defeat, I cannot allow you near. Kleavor and I have an inseparable bond as warden and Pokemon, yet he is hostile to me. I cannot prepare his favorite offerings without attack. His two favorite foods won’t even calm him down. Irida said-” Irida cut Lian off as she stepped closer, beginning to speak.

“Lian. I admire your courage. But Kleavor is suffering. These bolts have caused him to be enraged; perhaps the Diamond Clan’s false Sinnoh sent them. It may be something else entirely. But Kleavor is invaluable to our clan, and surrendering him to this fury is unacceptable. I told you to defend Kleavor, hoping the Pearl Clan could solve this issue. Well, here is our solution. This outsider, who claims to have bathed in Sinnoh’s almighty spacial rift, could help fix Kleavor’s frenzy. We must fix it, as Kleavor will continue to harm people if we don’t.” Irida put her faith in you as Lian turned to you.

“Find a way, outsider! If your Galaxy Team can find a way to calm my lord’s fury, then do so! Can you?” You nodded, knowing that you were going to try your hardest. You couldn’t let Adaman down, nor the Galaxy Team. Your first thought was of making Adaman happy, even as it unintentionally crossed your mind. Disappointing him wasn’t an option. Irida spoke again.

“We shall gather Kleavor’s favorite offerings in the hope that you might find a solution. Find a solution, even if you must scour every available patch of land in Hisui!” She spoke as you departed. You planned to bring this information to Professor Laventon, but it felt like you hadn't progressed much. Surely he could figure out a solution that would result in Kleavor’s calmness. You hurried back to Jubilife Village, running with your new information. You burst into the Galaxy Hall, sprinting towards Professor Laventon. You relayed the information to him and Akari as they tried to brainstorm solutions. Laventon’s eyebrows raised as he pointed at you.

“Aha! You’re the perfect person for this mission! Instead of trying to present the offerings, you must give them to the frenzied Kleavor. You’re an expert at throwing; throwing would force him to acknowledge and accept the offerings! Now go! Get to Irida and relay that you’d like to throw Kleavor his favorite offerings. I am certain this will work!” Laventon was excited, but you were tired. This Kleavor situation needed to be dealt with before you could, you reminded yourself as you left the Galaxy Hall. The sky was filled with the unfamiliar evening air as you went to deal with Kleavor. Every description of Kleavor said that he shone in bright, yellow light, a side effect of his frenzy. It would be easier to focus on it in the dark. You saw Mai standing by the gate, going to speak with her.

“That Galaxy Hall is stunning. I never tire of seeing it. Ah, but that’s not why I’m here. There’s some news you should be interested in if you’d follow me to the- what was it you called it? The Heights Camp?” Mai spoke, leading you there. It was a tough fight ahead; any news would be welcome and hopefully make the battle easier. As you approached the camp, you saw Adaman next to Wyrdeer, a somewhat frightening sight, even as he maintained his smile.

“There you are. Wyrdeer is one of our most revered Pokemon. I told him about everything that you’ve done. You, a traveler of the space-time rift, could have ignored our plights and continued on your own. In helping us with little benefit to you, however, you’ve shown your selflessness. Is it any wonder that he found you worthy?” Adaman pulled out a white flute, as did Mai. “Listen close!” Adaman commanded as Mai played a relatively simple tune. “Playing this will summon Wyrdeer and allow you to ride on its back.” You approached Wyrdeer carefully, extending a hand as it bowed its head gently, allowing you to touch it. Wyrdeer had surprisingly soft fur.

“These flutes are thought to be gifts from the almighty Sinnoh.” Adaman reached his hand out, containing the Celestica Flute. “This one is now yours.” You reached for it before shaking your head. You didn’t believe in their Sinnoh, so it wasn’t right for you to take his only flute! “Go on. Please don’t think of this as some grand gesture. I cannot play this flute to save my life; it’s much more useful in your hands. Besides, Wyrdeer is one of our connections to Sinnoh. If Wyrdeer didn’t find you worthy, this flute wouldn’t do anything for you. Try it out!”

You set your reservations aside as you played the flute. Wyrdeer bowed its head again, offering you a plate from seemingly nowhere. It had an inscription on it. You slipped it into your satchel and then faced Wyrdeer. It turned around for you to get on. You hesitantly did, apologizing to the Pokemon as you tried to climb on. You didn’t remember riding Pokemon, so this was new. You struggled to get on before Adaman stepped over, grabbed your waist securely, and lifted you onto the Pokemon. You could’ve died from embarrassment, as he chuckled. His little chuckle was so refreshing to hear.

“You’ll get the hang of it.” Adaman ran his hand through Wyrdeer’s mane before looking at you. “Now, don’t forget the most important part of this mission. Keep yourself safe. I know Kamado told you to work yourself until nothing is left; I emphatically disagree with him. If you are in danger, you need to run from it. You can always quell the frenzy another time, ok? You’re too special to be careless with your life, do you understand?” He kept his hand on Wyrdeer, waiting for a verbal answer.

“I understand. The next time you’ll see me, Kleavor will be alright again.” Adaman smiled as he moved his hand, allowing Wyrdeer to carry you away. It wouldn't be easy for you, but Adaman had given you a continued boost of confidence. Mai raised an eyebrow at Adaman as he watched you leave. She refused to press him further, but Adaman was not usually this friendly to outsiders. While never unfriendly, she couldn’t imagine him picking anyone up the first day they met.

“Mai, we should follow. If he can’t beat Kleavor, we may need to step in and help get him out.” Adaman was cautious about your safety, knowing that even if it was dangerous, it was his job as the leader of the Diamond Clan to step in. The two set out for Grandtree Arena behind you. You, on the other hand, were focused. Riding Wyrdeer was a new experience, but you loved it. You didn’t have time for any Pokedex observations today on the way; it was all about Kleavor. As you arrived at the Grandtree Arena, Lian sharply questioned your plan.

“You intend to throw Kleavor’s favorite foods at him? In a hope to calm his fury? It’s unorthodox, but if you Galaxy folks think it will tame him, please, try.” Irida interrupted with hesitancy in her voice.

“We’ve gathered his favorite Plump Beans, but I have reservations. You’re an outsider, not just to us but to Hisui in general. Kamado said I can trust you with this. I trust you’re trying to help, but I’m not convinced you’re strong enough. So challenge me! If you can fight and defeat this Pokemon with which I share a deep, sisterly bond, I will allow you the chance to quell Kleavor's rage!” Irida’s Glaceon emerged behind her, watching as you grabbed your Cyndaquill, and threw it to battle. Glaceon didn’t stand much chance, as you quickly burned the Glaceon. It got some solid hits, but Cyndaquill hadn’t fainted when Glaceon fell.

“You have a close bond with them, despite the Poke Balls. Perhaps I’ve been too quick to judge them, as you’re still forging a connection. Here, let me heal Cyndaquill up.” Irida did so before taking a deep breath in. “Now, you wish to mash together his favorite food and throw it at him? Almost like a sort of balm? We can do that. Lian, help me out.” The three of you quickly began working, arranging the balms. Once finished, Lian offered to summon Kleavor. It was do or die. You didn’t know that Adaman had just entered the Heartwood, Mai by his side, as Lian summoned Kleavor.

“Great lord Kleavor. Though it is not yet the time of our ceremony, we have come to make an offering of your favorite foods. Reveal yourself, and enjoy the offerings!” Lian called, as Kleavor responded. You stepped into the Grasstree arena, Irida telling you to dodge frequently. It was helpful advice, even as you had no clue what you were up against. There was a bright light at the top of the tree; it quickly dashed behind you. You took a deep breath as you turned, watching Kleavor run up, spin, and cut a tree cleanly in half before making a mad dash towards you, posturing for battle.

You grabbed your balms, tossing the first balm as Kleavor ran and chopped at you. You quickly jumped out of the way, running to a safe position and continuing to throw. They were hitting, and they seemed to work! Kleavor was very slowly losing power; you just had to keep dodging. You were already out of breath as Kleavor looked towards you, malice in his eyes. His stance pinned you against the tree as he started charging from a few feet away. You jumped to the side, rolling as you landed, as Kleavor collided with the tree.

You threw as many balms as possible, knowing that while you could throw in Pokemon to battle, it was safer to strike from a distance and keep going. Kleavor’s frenzied glow was slowly losing its shine, as you had probably whittled the frenzy down to about half-strength. You continued trying to confuse Kleavor by allowing it to run into the Arena boundaries and the Grandtree. Adaman had shown up, now standing with Irida, Lian, and Mai as they all supported you. The fight was not easy, as you were running out of energy. You were leagues above the other recruits, as you had been landing hit after hit while dodging deftly.

Now down to about a quarter power of the starting frenzy, Kleavor’s natural color started showing. You threw balm after balm before Kleavor caught you off guard. Kleavor rushed at you slightly earlier than expected, throwing you off. You threw another as you hopped back, holding your left arm up in protection as Kleavor’s ax arm did an uppercut. It cut your arm, not deep, but certainly not a simple graze. Drops of blood dripped on the Arena's leaves as you threw more balms. It hurt, but you were too close to stop now. You baited Kleavor into hitting the tree again, tossing more.

Then, it happened. Kleavor stumbled, the unnatural light coating his body fading. You threw your final balm, hitting Kleavor directly in the chest. An explosion of light erupted from his body as his natural form returned, far less hostile than the being you had just been fighting. As Kleavor approached you, you guarded with your left arm again, the cut noticeably bleeding as he placed something on his ax, offering it to you. The Insect Plate. You took it, thanking the Pokemon as it turned to run off. You had no idea what these plates were, but collecting them seemed wise. Lian and Irida approached you, with Lian watching Kleavor leave.

“Is it truly over? Have you calmed my lord’s frenzy?” You nodded, but Lian didn’t seem celebratory. “It seems connected to the lightning from the space-rift. Outsider! I went along with your plan, but if you took almighty Sinnoh’s blessing and destroyed it, I will not hesitate-”

“Lian! That’s quite enough! Sinnoh would not have sent down a frenzy and made our noble Pokemon act out in a rage. Now, outsider, the Pearl Clan is grateful for your assistance. I think I’ve come to believe you have truly fallen from the space-time rift. Sinnoh alone knows why, but I have one request before you depart. Should you encounter any other frenzied Pokemon, please help them! You have our gratitude.” Lian returned his gaze to yours before offering some valuable sitrus berries.

“I spoke out of turn without keeping my emotions in check. I apologize. I’m grateful my lord is no longer suffering; I was thinking irrationally. I believe, however, that our business is concluded. Should you wish to see my lord again, bring some plump beans and make an offering.” Lian and Irida allowed you to go on your way, as Adaman stopped you while you were leaving.

“Mai, would you please inform Professor Laventon that we will return to Jubilife Village separate from the group? We have some things to tend to.” Adaman spoke, and Mai quickly agreed, running ahead. “Now to you!” Adaman looked at your arm with concern, it wasn’t a horrible cut, but it still looked unpleasant. “Come with me, would you? I want to talk with you.” You nodded, tired after the fight. “You’re not walking. You must be exhausted. I can carry you there if you’d like?” You laughed, shaking your head no. He didn’t seem to be joking.

“Adaman, that’s too much work for you. I shouldn’t walk, though. Thanks to you, however, that’s not a problem.” You pulled out the flute, playing the notes to summon Wyrdeer. Within a moment, Wyrdeer had appeared by your side. “If you wanted to help me up again, it would be much appreciated.” Without hesitation, Adaman hoisted you onto Wyrdeer, climbing on top of Wyrdeer too, in front of you.

“You can hold onto me; I don’t want you falling.” He was charming as he waited until you wrapped your right arm around his body, guiding Wyrdeer to where to go. You purposefully allowed your left arm to dangle to the side, as it was still bleeding. The two of you rode Wyrdeer to a tranquil part of the Heartwood forest, free from hostile Pokemon. Adaman hopped off before helping you down. “Thank you, Wyrdeer. I appreciate your assistance.” Adaman spoke as Wyrdeer ran off. The two of you sat in a spot of tranquility that overlooked the vast Fieldlands. Adaman still seemed laser-focused on you.

“Now, let’s not waste any time.” Adaman spoke, grabbing his bag and pulling out several items. He was very gentle as he grabbed your arm, using a clean cloth to wipe it down. He set the bloodied cloth aside before pulling a bottle out of the bag. “This is going to sting. I find it helps to look away.” He spoke matter of fact as you closed your eyes. He rubbed something over the wound, and it did sting. You bit your lip to keep any grunts of pain in as Adaman rubbed the sterile liquid over the cut before wiping it with another clean cloth. “You can look now.” He spoke as you opened your eyes.

“All better now. Just have one last thing to do." He carefully began wrapping your arm from the beginning of the wound up with bandages, making sure they were snug but didn’t cut off any circulation. He had done this many times before and acted with a neutral face. “You’re going to want to change these before going to sleep and once you wake up for a few days. The cut isn’t as deep as it looked, but it’s still good to keep it from the elements.” After he finished wrapping your arm, he tore the piece of bandage from the roll with his mouth, smoothing over the wrapping.

“Thank you. You didn’t have to do that, but I’m grateful.” You were tired from a minor amount of blood loss and the amount of running and jumping you had just done. Adaman sat to your left as you rested your head on his arm. His right arm was all bandaged up.

“We’re matching now, isn’t that lovely? And yes, I most certainly did. You’ve resolved a problem that’s caused a massive headache for Irida and me and made this area safer. The least I can do is my job and patch up your wounds.” He moved his arm, gently rubbing your back. “You’re quite amazing, you know? You’ve already proven you’re beyond capable to me, at the very least. I hope you feel that way.” You let out an uncomfortable laugh as you respond.

“I wish I could feel that way. Commander Kamado has made it abundantly clear that even if I succeeded at this task, it won’t be enough for some people to accept me. I’m just someone who fell through space-time. Everyone here wants to either study me or entirely fear me. I have to keep proving myself until I’m normal. Maybe I won’t ever be normal here.” You sounded dejected, and rightfully so. That fight with Kleavor drained every ounce of energy you had, yet you knew this would only be the first step to acceptance. Adaman continued soothing you as you watched the Fieldlands.

“I don’t fear you. And study isn’t quite the right word for my intentions with you. I’m fascinated by you in different ways. Your determination and grit are new. Akari shared it, but she is still learning. You are learning too, of course, but you have such passion. You don’t fear Pokemon, even when you should. That Kleavor drove every Survey Corps member from coming to the Heartwood Forest. It’s remarkable. I think I know the word. I’m enamored with you. You’re inspiring, and I want to be by your side as you keep achieving these merits.”

“You’re so charismatic, Adaman.” You looked up to his eyes, smiling as you did. “Enamored, huh? I’d hardly think of enamored as a feeling from just inspiring someone. It usually means something more is there.” You spoke, nervous about how brave you were, probing how he truly felt about you. You had only just met, after all. But sometimes, all it took was a day to fall head over heels. “Is there something more?”

“I believe so.” Adaman looked without hesitation before continuing. “I’m not one to waste time. Many think I move too fast. I considered you a friend the moment I met you; I am willing to help any of my friends. I move quickly; every moment is a blessing from the almighty Sinnoh. Love is an intense word. Yet time is precious. Every moment I spend hiding my feelings is a moment that I can’t pursue love. I don’t live waiting for the right moment, for any time is the right moment.” Adaman positioned himself to face you, looking earnestly into your eyes.

“I have caught feelings for you. You don’t need to reciprocate, but I know my own body. Every heartbeat has felt faster in your presence, every priceless moment passing with more happiness than the one before. The desire to care for you is stronger than I’ve felt with anyone, and I know better than to ignore this. I don’t want to scare you away, but I want to be honest. So yes, I’m enamored with you. How do you feel about me?” Adaman turned the question around. After he allowed himself to be vulnerable, he extended the same openness to you.

“I feel similar. You’re very forward, and that’s refreshing. I want to say I want to pursue you as well, but I don’t think that’d be very fair.” You sighed, leaning your head on his shoulder again. “I’m not supposed to take sides in this conflict between your clans, and dating you would directly take a side. I don’t know why I’m here, nor how long I’ll be here for. To say that I’d like to get romantically involved means that I’d be acting selfishly. We wouldn’t know when I would need to return to my time. If you were to get involved with me, I could be gone in a month, a year, or even a decade. My memories are hazy of the future; I can’t imagine I’d remember this past. So I’d get to keep going on with my life while you would have to accept my disappearance. That’s not fair.” Adaman’s right hand grabbed your left, locking fingers as you felt the tears welling up. Adaman just kept rubbing your back, his serious tone also soft.

“I disagree with your philosophy.” He stated plainly, before expanding. “Both of our clans are at a stable peace. Neither Irida nor I will change that. And I fully expect to have disagreements with you, regardless of whether they are related to the Diamond Clan. Sinnoh has given us all time; none may know how much. If you weren’t a traveler from the future, having this conversation now would seem ridiculous. We’ll all be allotted our final minute from Sinnoh; none may know when that will come. In battling Kleavor, your very life was at stake. Regardless of whether you are a time traveler, you’ll face many more battles like that in Hisui. Even if you’re gone next week, I’d rather experience the romance we could have than regret not trying. Wouldn’t you?” Adaman’s very core belief was to waste no minute. It resonated with you as you sat up, turning to face him once again.

“I would. Adaman, what if you don’t like the person I am? What if my memories return, and what if I have someone in the future? I can’t remember anything from then, but I’m worried you’re setting yourself up for pain.” You wanted to try to romance him, but you were acutely aware of the guilt of possibly having to leave him. Adaman’s left hand raised to hold your cheek, his other hand tightly intertwined with yours.

“Actions speak louder than words. You’re brave, selfless, and kind. I might not know you well yet, but I know your heart is in the right place. You’ve earned the trust of both Kleavor and, more importantly, Wyrdeer. I want to get to know you better in a romantic way. Sinnoh would not choose a vile person to help sort out Hisui. Neither the Diamond Clan’s Sinnoh nor Pearl's would choose someone selfish. Whichever deity brought you here clearly chose correctly. Have faith in yourself. If I experience the pain of losing you to time, then the memories of you and I shall live on in me and the journals of history. I will act in Sinnoh’s vision and pass every moment of love through time.”

“Adaman…” You started, blushing hard now. He did act quickly, and his words were soothing any objections you might have had. Adaman leaned in closer, looking deep into your eyes.

“I think I’d like to kiss you.” He spoke, awaiting a response, hovering mere inches from your face. You took a deep breath; it was up to you now.

“Well then, you better kiss me and not waste any more time, Ada-” He leaned in, kissing you gently as he cut you off. It only lasted a few seconds as his eyes opened again, glinting with happiness. He pulled off for a moment, only a second away from another kiss.

“What a thrill.” His words were genuine, his heart beating rapidly. “Would you do me the honor of returning the kiss?” Without hesitation, you kissed him, feeling the soft warmth of his lips as you gently pulled away. He pulled his hand back slowly, his fingers lingering on your cheek before he did. You pulled him into a hug, a tight one.

“Should we return to the others now?” You spoke as Adaman gently shook his head.

“If it’s all the same with you, I’d like a few more minutes alone.” Adaman spoke, pulling you in, allowing your head to rest against his chest as he sat up. He let go of your hand, wrapping his right hand around your back to keep you upright. And, for the moment, all of your problems faded away.

Thanks for reading the first chapter! Once again, any comments, kudos, bookmarks are appreciated. If you feel so inclined to share the fic with friends, I'd be so happy. I appreciate you reading, and I look forward to hearing feedback.

Pokemon Legends Arceus Belongs to Nintendo and the Pokemon Company, of course, I do not own any of the characters written, I just like to write stories for the fandom, and I hope they're good!
