Chapter Text

“Is this what I think it is?!” screeched a young boy in excitement on Christmas morning.

An elder looking man with a dark brown beard, speckles of grey tingeing the facial hair curled his lips upwards into a knowing smirk, “Maybe Ani. Open it carefully though.”

“Oh Qui, you’re so bad,” giggled an elder woman with brown hair wrapped up into a single braid lying on her back, gave a light smack against her husband’s chest.

Ani, short for Anakin, opened a 3 foot tall rectangular prism box that was covered in a gigantic red bow and Cosmic Wars wrapping paper to reveal his most coveted Christmas present which was the all-new Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi Rabbit Hybrid Plushie from the recently new hit television series Cosmic Wars Hybrids which was basically the famous Cosmic Wars movies now with the human sentients being animal hybrids instead of just regular old humans.

The young boy gazed lovingly at the Bunny-wan which was one of the main protagonist and held up the plushie that was still trapped into the box and whispered, “You’re going to be my best friend.”

He then handed the box to his father to open while his mother took pictures on her instant disposable camera of the commemorative moment.

Once Qui, short for Qui-gon, freed the plushie, Anakin grasped it, enveloping it into a loving embrace upon impact.

“Well, I guess that was a good choice Shmi,” grinned Qui-gon.

Shmi responded with her own smile, “Indeed it was.”

-----------------------------------------

Throughout the years following that Christmas when Anakin received Bunny-wan at aged 7, the human and plushie were inseparable.

Anakin would always sleep with his Bunny-wan, play with his Bunny-wan, and eat with his Bunny-wan. The only time the two were apart with one another was when Anakin had to go to the bathroom or to school.

Being a latch-key kid, Anakin always spoke to Bunny-wan like he was his imaginary friend who understood him better than even his parents did.

It still hurt that he rarely saw his parents, but with Bunny-wan, Anakin knew they cared and loved him just from this wonderful gift that they got for him.

-----------------------------------------

At age 14, Anakin was still a latch-key kid but now had to deal with puberty by himself.

Sometimes, when he looked at Bunny-wan too long, he felt urges that he shouldn’t had against his plushie, yet he tried to be like Bunny-wan’s character in Cosmic Wars who was celibate in mind and body.

That all changed when a meteor shower was destined to appear when he was 15.

-----------------------------------------

“What do ya mean ya’ll have to work?” bemoaned Anakin as he was talking to his parents on a three-way call from his home’s landline.

“Sorry sweetie, the hospital is backed up with a resurgence of flu cases, so I’m needed to stay overnight to assist with the remaining staff still available,” apologized Shmi.

Qui-gon gruffly followed behind his wife’s excuse, “I’m sorry too, kiddo. Windu got sick with the flu at the courthouse, so I need to fill in for the nightly cases that’ll be coming through.”

Anakin wanted to scream and yell at his parents to come home for this special occasion, but he breathed out a bitter yet appreciated voice, “I understand, ya’ll care about the common folk. I just wished ya’ll could have seen the meteor shower with me.”

As the two parents tried to reassure their son, he hung up on them and headed straight for his room.

He took hold of Bunny-wan that was lying on top of his bed, crying into his plushie upon collision, and then falling into a fitful sleep.

About an hour and half later, Anakin receives a notification on his cellphone that the meteor shower was about to start, so he grabbed Bunny-wan and climbed to his roof through his bedroom window, lying on his back to look upwards towards the sky.

Bunny-wan laid next to him as the meteor shower finally emerged, zooming through the night sky in such beauty and amazement that Anakin soon wished that Bunny-wan was real so that he could have a friend.

While Anakin was intoxicated with the performance of the meteor shower, the rabbit paw that used to be attached to Bunny-wan begun to slowly morph into human fingers that tentatively gripped the teenaged boy’s hand.

Anakin hadn’t noticed until a floppy rabbit ear covered one of his azure eyes, making the young man push it away to lift up half of his body to yell at Bunny-wan only to be shocked that he was staring back at a real-life Bunny-wan!

Bunny-wan’s reddish orange ears plopped back into place before one gave a hesitant wave back at Anakin which made the teenage boy faint backwards onto the roof.

“Anakin!” cried Bunny-wan which made the young man blink awake to huff out in disbelief, “I must be dreaming.”

Bunny-wan pouted that his human didn’t believe he was real before climbing on top of Anakin’s body, leering downwards to say in a disapproving tone, “Anakin, how can you believe it’s not me, Bunny-wan?”

Anakin finally took a good look at the real-life Bunny-wan before him. He still had his youthful Padawan looks which included a braid attached to his right rabbit ear and strawberry blonde hair. His blue-green eyes now blink along with his mouth actually speaking. Anakin then took a gander down below to spot that Bunny-wan was similar in height and build like himself, but sported a red-orange cotton tail on his tailbone.

“You are real…” spoke Anakin in intrigue as well as incredulity for his wish during the meteor shower coming true.

Bunny-wan beamed before he hugged his human, snuggling up to Anakin’s neck in comfort, “Yup. I love you Anakin Skywalker.”

Anakin gulped but swiftly embraced back, “I love you too Bunny-wan.”

Anakin hadn’t expected Bunny-wan to ever become real, but if it is a dream, he’s planning on never waking up.

I'm taking another crack at this collection without pics this time, but with Infinite Chroma being my backup with my unedited versions of my works on my website, I'll think I'll post a lot more during this break I have from my full-time job. ;P
