Glory's Afterglow

Summary:

You can quiet down all you want and scrub the sheets as hard as you can, but the medical records and procurement reports don't lie.

Normally, it's not for logistics or medical to ask a lot of questions - if something's needed, it's needed, but given the rather bizarre nature of some requests, a rather covert investigation is warranted.

The subject? Only one of the highest officials among Rhodes Island's staff, of course. And said official's quarters and office.

Notes:

It's been a bit since I tried actually writing dialogue. Could use a bit of warm-up before I move on to other projects.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

[Warfarin] "This is on? Hm....ah, there it goes."

[Warfarin] "Right, for the formalities...this is going to be the log of the investigation into the rather...strange injuries and damages all connecting with the Doctor."

[Warfarin] "Due to the several furniture items and other objects damaged in this, Logistics, which has had to deal with replacing them, has also been involved. Thus, this is a joint investigation by Medical and Logistics."

[Warfarin] "So this will be entry #1, recorded by myself, Doctor Warfarin, representing the Medical Department, with Engineer Closure in attendance, representing the Logistical Department."

[Warfarin] whispers "No need to inform Kal'tsit or SWEEP yet - or ever. I think I already have an idea on what's behind this."

[Closure] whispers "Yup, same here."

[Warfarin] whispers "Pfft. Formalities. Not like anyone is actually going to seriously look into these after we're done, right?"

[Warfarin] "Okay, with that introduction out of the way, it's on to the first part of the investigation then - we will be covering the medical report of the Doctor."

[Warfarin] sound of an envelope being opened, papers moving.

[Warfarin] "Patient received several fractures around the pelvic area...bruising as well."

[Warfarin] "Also some similar injuries on the arms, specifically around the wrists."

[Warfarin] "Patient was able to go to the infirmary, unassisted."

[Warfarin] "After ruling out the possibility of there having been an accident heavy machinery, patient was then asked about assault."

[Warfarin] "Patient refused to disclose the identity of their....assailant, but did let slip that it was a 'she'. Patient then refused suggestions for a revision of their security plan."

[Warfarin] "Due to what appears to be an electrical failure in the area at around the estimated time of the incident, no camera footage or sound could be retrieved, thus frustrating investigation attempts.
While the patient was recuperating in the infirmary, however, Closure was able to enter the patient's quarters and conduct an investigation of her own."

[Warfarin] whispers "Closure, you're up."

[Closure] "Right, the Doc's room - it was definitely an...interesting sight, let me tell you. The place is rather bare for the most part, except the uh....many personal items that the Doc has been gifted by operators. Like, old fancy knives, toys, stickers, and all sorts of other random knick-knacks. Anyways, the point is, I know what the room is normally like."

[Closure] "And I know when something is wrong."

[Closure] "And I don't just mean the way that the bedframe seemed....utterly disintegrated, like, whew, that takes some actual effort, what those things lack in comfort, I made sure that they at least last forever-"

[Warfarin] whispers "We know, get to the point-."

[Closure] "Okay fine, there was a smell of cleaning chemicals around! And not like it was cleanly applied around the room, or carefully used on any particular objects - it was as if someone just clumsily splashed a huge amount of it on the bed sheets."

[Closure] "The personal shower also looked like it had seen some use - and, just like the bed, the walls and floor were also similarly splashed with cleaning chemicals."

[Closure] "Speaking of that, at around...well, around head level for me I guess, maybe shoulder-height for the Doctor, I did notice that there were some rather interesting depressions on the wall, as if something put a lot of pressure there and managed to deform the wall."

[Closure] The showerhead did appear to be wet too - with water, I mean. Not bleach or something. So the thing must have been recently used at some point, I think."

[Warfarin] "Medical can corroborate this - the patient did appear to have recently bathed before coming in, hair was still wet."

[Closure] "Rightio. So, to summarize, here's what the whole situation looks like: two instances of some kind of highly intense physical activity involving heavy amounts of force happened in the Doctor's room."

[Closure] "One instance of the activity must have been entirely confined to the bed, because no other damages could be observed around the room - nothing on the floors, the walls, the cabinets..."

[Closure] "A second instance of the activity must have also happened in the bathroom, judging by the damages to the wall."

[Closure] "When the activities were finally concluded, the areas were splashed in cleaning agents to presumably clean up evidence."

[Closure] "The recently-used shower does leave an interesting question though - what was the timeline like for all this?"

[Warfarin] "Doesn't matter. Take a look at this - cleaner missed a spot."

[Closure] "What...? Wait, don't just stick your finger in that, it could be-!"

[Warfarin] "Wispy white cloud inside clear sticky liquid, rather distinct odor..." sigh

[Closure] "..."

[Warfarin] "Alright, you can quit playing detective now, I think we have conclusive evidence right here of what happened."

[Closure] "Okayyyy....well that's definitely evidence for at least one half of the case. And the...ahem, partner in crime is...?"

[Warfarin] "Do we even need to guess? There's not many people who can be strong enough to do all this and also be close to the Doctor."

[Warfarin] "Unbelievable. You know how hard it is for me to even get close to them for anything, let alone legitimate scientific research? And the Doctor can get away with this...this fraternization...!"

[Closure] "Well, on one hand...this is quite a relief. Thought our security had been compromised somehow, some kind of backdoor or electrical fault, but if it was just the Doc using admin privileges, there's probably not much I could have done about it."

[Closure] "I guess we shouldn't have expected no less though - of course the Doctor would have some prep work done before doing anything."

[Warfarin] "Mhm..."

[Closure] "Heheh...hey, stop pouting. You know, with this kind of...well, I can't say it's new knowledge exactly, more like confirmation...there's got to be something we can do with this."

[Closure] "I see your eyes - got your attention, did I?" snickers

[Closure] "Turn off that recorder, we can probably think of something- oh, uh, Doctor Kal'tsit, surprise seeing you here! Uh, we were just leaving-"

[Recorder] warbled audio, loud "thud" as if dropped

Notes:

Inspired by all those E-rated fics that feature the Doctor trying to get with operators - sometimes covertly, sometimes not.
And sometimes getting extremely wild.
And one thing I keep thinking of with those things is...what happens after?
How does the Doc get away with any of this?

Well, I see some fics skip into the far future with the Doc raising a happy family or something, but most simply end right after the act.

I feel like there should be more that dive into the comedic / dramatic potential of the aftermath.

Guess it's because I never cared too much for the details of the act itself.

Anyways, hope you all enjoyed this!
