Chapter 1: Accidental Time Travel

Chapter Text

‘I told you not to mess around with it’ Kurama grumbled displeased with their current predicament.

In his defense he didn’t know it was a time seal…maybe he did a little bit...okay fine a lot, but he didn’t expect it to actually work! It was all smudged and old! Plus he was bored and no one was around to keep him from messing with it (besides the ever present bijuu he had sealed inside him that repeatedly told him not to play with a time seal much less one that was clearly unstable) so technically speaking it wasn't his fault that they ended up in the past if what Kurama said was to be believed.

“I didn't think it would work! It looked fake!” He weakly defended.

‘It did not look fake you idiot! It clearly was an unstable seal that should not have been messed with by a thickheaded fool like you, especially not with your freakishly large chakra reserves you have yet to fully control!’

He pouted, crossing his arms “You’re so mean Kurama~" he whined earning a sarcastic laugh from the bijuu sealed in him. After calming down the fox spoke again.

‘If you are really in the past you should come up with a plan.’

“Alright but where do I start?” He asked thoughtfully.

‘If you're planning on going to Konoha, which you likely are knowing you, make a fake identity and background just in case there is still a chibified version of you running around. We'll figure the rest out from there’

“Good idea, but what name and what should my story be?”

Kurama hummed in thought for a moment before responding ‘What about Asahi? It suits you’

“Why Asahi? Does it mean anything?” Naruto asked the fox who stayed suspiciously silent. “Kuramaaaa answer me!” he whined mentally poking at the fox causing him to grumble something. “What was that? I didn't hear you”

‘Nothing brat’ the kyuubi huffed with poorly concealed embarrassment, either way their shared mental link helped know of the fox's embarassment.

“Awwww come on Kurama~ Don’t be like that tell me I’m curious now. Pleaseee”

Even with all the bugging Kurama wouldn’t budge telling him to forget about it and think of another name. “Fine, don’t tell me then, I’ll figure it out by myself!” he huffs with a pout.

‘Let’s just move onto your background’

“Fine”

It was already night by the time Kurama and he finished planning. Hours of Kurama drilling into his head the importance of keeping his true identity a secret and forcing him to remember every detail of his new identity to a T, had made him tired and in desperate need of some well deserved sleep after being forced to memorize everything all while he traveled to Konoha.

He had set up camp for the night near a river, as per usual whenever he camped out, and while he may be tired he was also starving. Having not eaten since his unexpected travel through time. So to satisfy his hunger he went fishing for some fish, once he had caught a few he started a fire and roasted them to his liking.

After eating and putting out the fire he climbed into the tallest tree he could find and into a safe patch of sturdy branches that could easily support his weight. With a full stomach and Kurama to wake him up in case of any danger he fell into blissful sleep within minutes.

Notes:

Heheh- so sorry for it being like SUPER short normally it’s 1k-3k words long but I just couldn’t for the life of me write so I had to end it early sorry :[

(Don’t worry I do have ideas and some future chapters planned out but since this is my first fic for this fandom ig it’s harder for me to write? Idk but I have started on another chapter for the future because I can’t for the life of me go in order

I do have good news though I will be trying to post every other week (hopefully) I can’t promise anything though because I am unreliable

Edit: At least I gave a heads up on being unreliable lol anyways I update once a month now sometimes twice if I'm feeling generous which is rare :P)

Chapter 2: The Village Hidden in the Leaves

Notes:

For the sake of the plot, Itachi is going to be 7 years older than Sasuke (meaning Sasuke and the others were born a year later than in canon but the same events happen just a year later think of it as an extra year of peace before the kyuubi attack) and joined ANBU a year earlier than in canon.

(I lie a lot if you couldn’t tell you’ll understand if you have read the end notes in the last chapter)

Chapter Text

‘Kit time to wake up’

Grumbling Naruto protested not wanting to get up just yet, not after he had finally gotten comfortable and for the first time in ages gotten some quality sleep. “I don’ wann’”

‘You need to find a nearby town to get clothes and gather information to see how far you traveled back you may be able to prevent your parents' deaths if you are lucky enough’

The possibility of preventing his parents' deaths was enough of a motivator for him to get up. Rubbing any lingering sleep from his eyes he hopped down from the tree he was in, quietly landing on the ground in a crouched position.

Standing from his crouched stance he stretched, hearing the satisfying pop of his joints. “So where to?” He asked the fox who in turn let out a long insufferable sigh.

‘One word. Sensor’

“But that was 3 words?” He said, nose scrunching up in confusion.

‘Sometimes I wonder how you managed to live to 17’  the fox huffed.

“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean!” Naruto squawked in offense crossing his arms. Earning a snort from the fox.

‘You’re a sensor fishcake use your sensor abilities to find a town’ Kurama said instead ignoring the previous question.

Naruto fell silent at the realization and mumbled “oh yeah” before doing just that.

When he was younger he always thought it was normal to be able to know how everyone felt and be able to feel where everyone was. However, he never had the chance to ask about it when all the villagers hated him and Jiji was always busy.

When he got older and was in the academy he asked Iruka-sensei about it while they were out eating ramen. He just got a funny look from the older man making him switch the subject.

Later on during a mission, he asked Kakashi-sensei while they were taking a break. Kakashi-sensei had frozen before explaining to him that no not everyone knew where everyone was at all times or could feel people's emotions.

He also explained what a sensor was but at the time he didn’t understand it. Looking back on it he didn’t blame his 12-year-old self for not understanding because Kakashi-sensei had given a very bad explanation.

He had stopped asking about it afterwards. That was until he had started his training with pervy sage and he had mentioned it. He remembered being sat down and given a lecture about sensors and what they could do and how it’s very rare for a sensor to be able to sense people's emotions and have such a large sensing range.

It had been a long and boring 2 hours for him back then, but now he was grateful for the knowledge. Kurama had later on explained to him in a much easier-to-understand way what it meant to be a sensor and even helped him improve his abilities.

Feeling many chakra signatures not too far away he set off in its direction. Not wanting to waste any more time than he already had.

It was already mid-morning by the time he got to the town which was bustling with life, the sun high in the sky. Children laughing and playing while they ran through the crowds. Stalls open, merchants selling whatever goods they had as people came by and purchased their goods.

It was overall a very nice environment. Although he would get curious glances every once and a while. Nothing he couldn’t handle after all he was used to the stares the villagers gave him, ones filled with hate and disgust. These were just those of curious passersby.

Shaking the thought from his head and shoving it back in a corner of his mind to hopefully not deal with later he walked over to a nearby store that was selling clothes.

Walking in he started looking around.

In the end, he ended up with 2 mesh shirts, 3 shinobi pants, and an orange and black zip-up jacket he found stuffed in between clothes. It looked similar to the one he had now although much cleaner, less faded, and the orange was more of a burnt orange, like Kurama's fur.

Deciding to look around some more he ended up buying a few more kunai, shuriken, senbon, and ninja wire from another store. While wandering from store to stall something from one of the stalls caught his attention.

Wanting to satisfy his curiosity he went over to look what it was. It turned out to be a stall that sold different assortments of items. But the thing that caught his attention was a mask.

It was a fox mask to be exact with carefully drawn strokes of paint around the eyeholes. Markings on the forehead and strokes of paint on each cheek making up the whispers. It had a mischievous look in its eyes and a playful smile.

It was perfect. Kurama seemed to agree with the way he purred in agreement. “Excuse me sir is that for sale?” He asked pointing towards the mask.

“Sorry, boy but it is not” the elder man said but upon seeing how Naruto visibly deflated and looked disappointed the man continued “although, I could make an exception if you help me with something” Perking up at this he excitedly turned his eyes to the man.

“Really? What is it? Whatever it is I’ll do it” he says with determination clear in his eyes. The man chuckled warmly at the boy's reaction.

“All you need to do is help me sell all the goods I have left in my stall and the mask is yours”

“I’ll do my best!” He said with a bright grin that could rival the sun.

“I’m sure you will,” the man agreed nodding along.

“I must say, I hadn’t expected you to be able to sell everything in such a short period of time. Some items I was offering hardly ever sell on good days. Thank you for helping boy I think you deserve this” the man thanked, pulling the mask from where it had been hanging.

They hold it out for him to take which he does ever so carefully. Delicately holding it as if it were to break if he held it any tighter. “I-thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you! I’ll make sure to treasure this forever” he said wholeheartedly.

“You better young man else I'll have your head!" the elderly man joked "But feel free to stop by whenever you like I’ll be glad to see you again,” the man said with a smile. Nodding Naruto said his goodbyes before turning and leaving with the newly acquired mask in hand.

Three Days Later

In the Hokage office, two men are discussing a man with a kitsune mask being seen running around the borders of Konohagakure.

“Do you believe they will pose a threat to the village Hound?”

“No Hokage-sama, although if they are a threat I believe we will be able to handle it with few casualties. They have proven to be quite slippery with their speed and ability to outrun a Jonin” the man with a dog mask and silver hair answered.

“Very well then keep an eye on them in the meantime if they look to pose a threat capture them and bring them to T&I. Understood?”

“Yes Hokage-sama,” Hound said with a bow.

“You are dismissed”

At this Hound vanished in the blink of an eye not a trace of them left behind.

‘We’re being watched’

‘Got it thanks Rama’ Getting a grunt in response Naruto sat up from where he was laying in the open field with his mask still on. His chakra was suppressed not enough to be completely undetectable, but enough so it didn’t overflow everywhere.

He felt a flicker of chakra and the faint feeling of caution mixed with nervousness and curiosity. He smiled mischievously although it was covered by the mask.

He shushined in front of the duo who watched him hang upside down from the branch In front of them, pushing chakra to his feet to prevent him from falling.

“Yo,” a kunai came flying towards his face in an instant. Instinctively he caught the kunai mere inches before it hit his face. “Now that wasn’t very nice now was it?” He said with a huff and tilt of his head.

There was a spike of suspicion in the dog-masked ANBU’s chakra. While the other ANBU had a slight tint of confusion. “Let me introduce myself. Name’s Kitsune nice to meet cha” he said flashing a bright grin that was covered by the mask.

This man was odd Weasel had concluded. Very odd…and warm. They were currently face-to-face in the field, the man, Kitsune as they insisted on being called. With Kitsune on the opposite side of where Hound and he were sitting.

Even with a mask Weasel could tell when the man was smiling or in most cases grinning with the way their chakra would become brighter than their already impossibly warm and bright chakra. It was almost blinding at times, their brightness being able to rival even that of the sun's.

He had needed to look away from the man on more than one occasion because of this. He felt like he would’ve gone blind if he hadn't. Hound seemed to share the same sentiment with him if the way he would do the same, although less frequently and when Hound didn’t he noticed a slight wince.

Focusing back on the conversation they seem to be discussing Kitsune’s intentions and reasons for being so close to Konoha’s borders. “I know it looks bad, but I promise I’m not a threat to Konoha”

“You have been outrunning our Jonin, have been seen consistently along the border of Konohagakure with unknown intentions, and have a mask making you look even more suspicious,” Hound deadpanned with what you could only assume was a blank stare.

“Now that you say it like that yeah it does sound bad” Kitsune said, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck out of habit. “But! I mean it, I’m not a threat, if anything I was hoping to join Konoha as a shinobi”

He could feel Hound’s eye twitch with irritation as he suppressed a snort. “Why do you want to join Konoha?” He spoke up before Hound could say anything.

There was a waver in Kitsune’s chakra and it dampened becoming less bright and more somber. For some reason, it felt wrong for the man in front of them to be so dull.

“Well, I don’t really have anywhere else to go and this old man I used to know told me to come here if anything were to ever happen to him and the others so here I am!”

That was sad. He couldn’t get rid of the feeling of wrong he got when the other was sad. Judging by how Hound looked uncomfortable he felt the same.

“Fine,” was the short answer Hound gave before standing surprising them both. “Come on” Kitsune brightened significantly with the way their chakra was blindingly bright and warm. Even though he has never met Kitsune up until now he felt happy at them being happy like he would be with a close friend.

“Hokage-sama” Hound greeted with a bow

“Hound, Weasel…”

“You can call me Kitsune” Naruto introduced with a slight bow it felt weird bowing to the old man since he never did before nor did he get in trouble for not doing so when he was younger so it never stuck.

Clearing their throat the Hokage spoke “Report Hound.”

“Weasel and I were on patrol around the borders when we stumbled upon Kitsune. We stayed hidden while we observed them when they suddenly shunshined in front of us. We asked for his intentions and he said that they would like to join Konoha as a shinobi. They convinced us that they were not a threat so we brought them here for you to decide what shall happen”

“Is this true Weasel?” Sarutobi questioned.

“Yes Hokage-sama” Weasel confirmed with a nod.

“Very well then you are dismissed. Kitsune, I would like to have a conversation with you.”

At this Hound and Weasel body-flickered away leaving him behind. “You wanted to speak to me Hokage-sama?”

“Yes, I would like to question your motives and reasoning behind wanting to join Konohagakure.”

“Well, I am hoping to join Konoha as a shinobi. As for reasoning an old man who took me in told me many great things about Konohagakure and said to me if anything were to ever happen to him and the others then to come here so here I am. I promise I have no ill intentions all I wish to do is fulfil their last wish for me to grow to be a strong shinobi”

The atmosphere had dulled heavy grief in the air as the man explained with grief evident in their expression. Hiruzen’s gaze softened at what was merely a teenager trying to cope with their unresolved grief and loss of what could’ve possibly been everything.

Sighing Hiruzen spoke again “I suppose I could work something out although if you truly want to be a shinobi of the leaf then you must take a test just as the rest have then we shall determine your rank, unless you have an idea of what rank you may be. Although, you can always start as a genin”

At the mention of possibly being genin again, he vigorously shook his head not wanting to go back to doing D-rank missions. This drew an amused chuckle from the older man.

“Please go to the hospital to get a check-up in case of any injuries and get some rest you look like you need it. I will send a jonin to take you there as well as show you your apartment afterwards”

Nodding along he bowed once more and said his goodbyes as he was dismissed. The moment he left the Hokage office he had curious and questioning glances thrown at him from those passing by.

When he left the tower he already felt eyes watching him from the shadows. Not even a day in Konoha and he’s already got his shadows back.

Chapter 3: Shopping for Decor

Notes:

You have no clue how many things I have had to research especially with the ages so I could even come remotely close to what everyone's ages are in the timeline seriously wtffff ik I said screw canon but like that was mostly for how things function the ages are somewhat important for me.

I tell myself that no I refuse to do any research for whatever fandom I write for but then it's 2 in the morning and I'm still doing research to find some reliable sources for the ages and events/how old they were when a certain event happened.

Why is it so hard to plan out a timelineeee AHHHHHHH *screams fade into the distance*

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

He had to wait in front of the Hokage Tower for 2 whole hours and yet no one has came to show him the hospital. Not like he doesn't know where it is he does he lived here after all but it would be suspicious if a 'outsider' knew where everything was.

And he doesn't need anymore suspicion to be directed at him. Bored he decided to -annoy- talk to Kurama since it doesn't look like the Jonin is going to be here any time soon.

Going into his mindscape it wasn't a sewer as it was when he was younger filled with murky water instead it was a beautiful clearing filled with all types of flowers with a huge oak tree in the center of it all under it was the fox peacefully napping.

Knowing that the fox already knew he was there with the way their ear twitched. He ran up to them colliding full force into the fox's muzzle. Which earned a grunt from the fox who finally decided to open their eyes.

"Hi Kurama!" He said hugging the fox's muzzle. Kurama in turn blew a huff of air which made him grin as his hair grew more untamed "Fishcake" the fox greeted.

"So what brings you here?"

"What? Can't I visit you whenever I want?" He questioned with a huff.

"Not what I meant and you know that"

"I got bored~" he said whining.

"The jonin that was meant to come ages ago to lead me to the hospital and my new apartment still isn't here yet and I got boreddd so I'm here to anno- talk! I came to talk to you" he corrects with a nervous laugh.

Which earned him an unimpressed stare from the fox. "Can't you just go to the hospital yourself and wait for them there?"

"And here I thought you were the smart one" he mumbled loudly. Kurama just gave him an eye roll. "No I can't if I don't want people to be more suspicious of me than they already are duhhh"

"Well it's time for you to go I sense a chakra coming towards you"

"Alright bye Kurama!" He said with his signature grin making his whiskers scrunch up. Leaving his mind scape he feels around with his chakra, feeling a familiar chakra signature.

As it got closer he automatically knew who it was. 'Out of all people it just had to be Kakashi-sensei' he should've known with how late they were.

After a couple more minutes of waiting he leads a quiet thud landing behind him. Turning he sees a younger version of his future-past sensei. Nothing had changed other than the height this not-yet-Kakashi-sensei was slightly shorter than his Kakashi-sensei.

But they both still had the same half face mask and had their left eye covered by their forehead protector. Same silver hair but this time without that gravity defining hairstyle it was more tamed but still spiky.

"Yo" the silver head greets with a wave.

"You're late~" he whined his mask still on. "A black cat crossed my path so I had to go the long way then I saw an old lady struggling with her groceries and couldn't just leave her so I helped her take them to her house" Kakashi said.

He sighed and shook his head in exasperation "Well I still need to go to the hospital per Hokage-sama's request and after that my new apartment which I don't have a key to" he said while mentally making a to-do list.

"Well then follow me"

And just like that they ended up running on top of rooftops arriving at the hospital in a matter of a few minutes. If it had been a civilian it would've taken at least 30 minutes perhaps longer.

We stopped at the entrance before walking inside. Kakashi looked slightly uncomfortable when we entered. 'He must not have good memories here' Ignoring it he focused back on the situation at hand. They were asking him to remove his mask.

Mulling it over he found he didn't see any problems if he did. But only decided to do so when they were in a secluded area of the hospital. He heard audible gasps when he did but ignored it. Instead he sat down where he was told to.

Being instructed to take his shirt off, he did as told. Not bothering to look at the worried expression he got from the nurse.

"How did you even manage to survive any of these?" He heard the nurse mumble to herself which to the normal ear would've been missed but with his enhanced hearing he heard.

He let out a small chuckle causing the nurse to freeze along with Kakashi who curiously looked at him. "Sorry it's just that I don't know myself but then again I did have a medic friend who was really good at what she did, she was even able to reconnect limbs! Can you believe that?"

"Also I do have more advanced healing than others so that's a plus" he said with a shrug. The room was silent the rest of the time there. "You have severe chakra exhaustion I'm shocked you're still able to stand although other than that you are good to go make sure you get plenty of rest"

"I will, promise!" He says promising with a bright smile that was now visible with his mask off. With the reassurance the nurse told them that they were free to go now and once more reminded him to get plenty of rest.

He put his mask back on before they left the room and followed Kakashi to his new apartment. On the way he got some curious glances but nothing more.

We had finally arrived at my apartment which was honestly way better than what he was expecting. His childhood apartment paled in comparison. While his childhood apartment was small and had rotting floors, a leaking roof, and cracked windows.

This one was much bigger instead of only 2 rooms there were 4. A bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and living room. There was no rotting floors with mysterious red stains on them, no leaky roofs, and no cracked windows.

Overall he was stunned and felt a slight twitch of anger. Anger because why couldn't he get this when he was younger. Also knowing the fact that Jiji would give a stranger who could be a possible threat a much more luxurious apartment than a orphan child.

Who was not only the son to the Red Hotheaded Habinaro but also the Fourth Hokage/Yellow Flash was hurtful.

Shaking it off he shoved those feelings into the farthest corner of his mind. Not wanting to deal with them today and hopefully never. Instead he turn to Kakashi with a bright smile covered by the mask but was made up for by his chakra that reflected his smile.

"Thanks for showing me my apartment!" He says brightly. Kakashi froze mouth slightly agape but was hidden by his mask. He basked in the warmth and brightness that the sun's human incarnation gave off. He felt a feeling of safety around them which he can't find out why.

Even though he should probably be suspicious about it he can't find himself doing so. A few moments passed before he snapped out of it and gave a curt nod and handed the keys to the sunny blond. With a wave from the blond they shut the apartment door and he shunshinned away.

My shadows came back long ago, they appeared again right after Kakashi left. He honestly didn't really mind it, but he also felt kinda bad for them since he's just been exploring the apartment and mapping out the best places to hide things for the last hour or two.

Just then he got an idea. He looked around the barren apartment that had little decor and only had the main necessities. He stared for a moment longer before deciding that yes, yes he did need decoration.

Plus it would give his shadow some time to move and stretch their probably sore muscles.

With his mind already made up he got a pouch of coins out of a seal he had set on the counter. It wasn't much but it would be enough to make the place feel homey.

With the pouch in hand he set off to start his mini shopping spree. Of course not before checking if his mask was still firmly set in place.

He had a bag full of small decor he had bought from the merchants. He had bought a sandstone figure of a tanuki that came from Suna according to the merchant he bought it from since it had reminded him of Gaara and in turn Shukaku.

He missed the red head but knew he wouldn't be able to see them again at least not from his time. Maybe he could take a trip to Suna in the future and meet past Gaara. Maybe even convince Shukaku to treat him better.

Yeah....

He'll do that. He always felt bad for his friend who had to endure so much at such a young age. Much like him it was because of being a jinchuriki. Although even he was able to sleep without worrying about the tailed beast sealed inside of him breaking free while he slept.

But that was because he didn't know he even had one in the first place...

Either way he couldn't imagine not sleeping for who knows how long much less as a baby who needs much more sleep than an adult. And from what Gaara had told him it was because of the botched seal that his and Shukaku's minds were constantly in each other's presence.

Making it hard for him to distinguish his own thoughts from the tanuki's which as you can see in the long run didn't go well.

He shook his head to clear his thoughts not wanting to reminisce on the past right now. And hopefully never.

Instead he focused on where he was at now after wandering around aimlessly. He noticed that he was no longer where the travelling merchants usually set up their stalls and was now where Konoha's main shops were.

As he continued walking he noticed a shop that caught his attention which was a flower shop. More specifically Ino's family's flower shop. 'I could use some greenery in my apartment' he thought before entering.

As he entered a jingle was heard from the bell above the door notifying people of his arrival. He heard some rustling coming from the somewhere in the store before hearing "one moment please!"

He patiently waited for them and in the meantime took a look around already spotting some pretty plants that he thought would look good in the apartment.

Not long after a woman came to the front to greet him. She had brown hair and brown eyes and was currently wearing a green apron that had some dirt on it. She had paused when she saw him but quickly snapped out of it.

"Hello thank you for choosing our shop. How may I help you today?" The woman asks a small smile on her lips. "Hello I was wondering if you have any recommendations for low maintenance plants" he answers.

"Why yes we do please follow me and I'll show you our plants for beginners although if you would like something a bit more advanced please do tell and I will see if I could help you find some to your liking"

He nods as he follows her around the shop as she shows him all sorts of low maintenance plants, which although nice he didn't think suited his apartment.

As he was being shown another plant light footsteps came from behind them. It seemed the one showing him the plant noticed as she had turned towards the sound with a lighthearted sigh and a gentle smile on her lips.

"Mama!" A small squeaky voice calls out. He also turned to look at the source of the sound to find a small child no older than 3 running towards them. She had blond hair although significantly paler than his own hair and pale blue eyes.

It took his longer than he would like to admit to realize that this was past Ino. Which in his defense he never really talked to the other blond much in his timeline.

They exchanged few greetings and even fewer words and it wasn't like you could stop in the middle of a war to have a conversation. Even after the war they never got to getting to know each other better.

Back to the present a chibified version of Ino ran up to what he assumed was her mom, based on what the child called her earlier, and gave the woman a big hug.

Although the toddler hardly reached up to the woman's upper thigh so the toddler had her arm wrapped around the woman's leg. He sniffled a chuckled at the sight and just smiled in amusement.

Allowing his chakra to reflect his feelings. This small gesture seemed to catch the toddler's attention as their pale blue eyes turned to look at him filled with curiosity.

He gave a small wave and a smile that was masked by his mask. "Ah apologies for my daughter her father couldn't take care of her today so I had to bring her with me she must've just woke up from her nap. I do hope this isn't a problem" the woman apologizes.

"It's quite alright Yamanaka-san it doesn't bother me in the slightest. If anything it brings me joy seeing your mother-daughter relationship" he reassured.

"Pardon but how did you know I was a Yamanaka?" She asks narrowing her eyes in suspicion. "Apologies I didn't mean to assume it's just that your daughter's hair is very similar to that of a Yamanaka." He explained.

"I see. Well you are not wrong I am indeed a Yamanaka though I married into the clan and am civilian born."

With that they dropped the topic and turned their gaze to the toddler who was still staring at him unblinking which was rather concerning.

"Ino darling say hi to..." Ino's mother looked up at him in question. "Call me Kitsune please" he informed her getting a nod in response.

"Please say hi to Kitsune-san honey" the woman gently says. Mini Ino stays quiet before raising a small hand and pointing "F-o-x" the toddler sounds out. He let out an amused snort before nodding "Yes it is a fox" amusement evident in his voice.

Mini Ino gave a wide smile and waddled her way over to him. He tilted his head to the side while looking down at the toddler who was at his feet. The toddler raised their chubby hands and made grabby hands "fox up up!"

Naruto looked up at Ino's mom for permission to which he got a nod in response as well as a smile. Now that he had the permission he leaned down and picked the toddler up from under their arms.

He easily picked them up and placed her on his hip for more support. "Fox fox fox fox" the toddler chanted while curiously touching his mask.

This went on for a few more minutes before mini Ino wanted to be put down to which he complied with. When he did Ino's mother continued on showing him some more plants.

Which was again interrupted by the toddler although this time the toddler grabbed Naruto's hand and dragged him around and started showing him her favorites.

While she was showing him her favorites one of the ones he was show caught his eye and he asked Ino's mother about. He was told it was called a Peace Lily and it meant hope and healing.

In the end he left with three plants. One of them being the Peace Lily and the other two being hanging plants that sprouted flowers if taken care of properly sadly he didn't remember the names of them.

The Peace Lily was chosen with the help of past Ino as she lead him around the shop (more or less dragged but same thing) showing him her favorites. While the other two were found with the help of Yamanaka-san.

As he exited the shop he started wandering around more but found nothing else of interest. He looked up at the sky to see what time it was and found that it had turned out he had skipped lunch and it was already nearing dinner time.

He contemplated whether he wanted to skip dinner as well. Already being used to not eating for long periods of time. As he was making his way towards his apartment he saw Ichiraku Ramen out of the corner of his eye.

It was then that the decision was made as he turned to walk to the ramen stall. He used his hand to move the banners to the side as he ducked into the ramen stall. He was automatically greeted by Ayame when he took a seat.

"Hello! What would you like to order?" She said with a kind smile. He gave it a moment of thought before deciding what he wanted. "Surprise me will you?" He answered with a grin that was covered by his mask.

"One surprise ramen coming right up!" Ayame said cheerfully turning to tell her father the order.

It didn't take long for the ramen to be done because soon enough a bowl was placed down in front of him. "Hope you enjoy!" Ayame says in the same cheerful tone she had previously. "Thank you" he said with a smile that was covered by his mask that had yet to be removed.

Looking down at his favorite ramen he grabbed the pair of chopsticks that were resting beside the bowl. He lifted his mask up enough so his mouth was showing and he could eat.

With his mask now over his nose he dug in. And in record time he finished his first bowl and was soon moving on to his second. After his third he stopped not being able to stomach anymore.

Just like that he got out his coin pouch and took out the amount the ramen costed and a few more coins as a tip. With everything now paid he got up from his seat and exited the ramen stand.

He was now in his apartment unsealing the plants and bag of decor he had gotten that day from the storage seal he had put them in. With everything now unsealed he took to decorating the place.

He put the hanging plants each in a corner of the living room while the peace lily sat by the window still in the kitchen for the time being. He put the rest of the little nic-nacs in his room like the tanuki figurine.

When he finally finished decorating he plopped onto the bed face first, mask long discarded and put into a seal on his arm. He stayed like that until he eventually fell asleep mumbling a good night to Kurama.

Notes:

I updated on time!/j (writer's block is a b*tch :P)

Sorry if the switch in pronouns at times is confusing I'm trying to make them non confusing but can't really do that if I myself don't know which he or they I'm talking about. ; °^°

Another thing is when Ino says "fox" ik it's very unlikely for a toddler and would most likely sound like "foc" or in other words "f^ck" but for the sake of the chapter she is able to pronounce it.

Edit: The name has been decided! It’s gonna be Asahi! ^^

What fic should I write next?

A) Naruto time travels to Warring States Period
B) Naruto time travels to when it’s the Third Great Shinobi War
C) Naruto dies and ends up in the past as a second chance but him and past Naruto share a body
D) Uchihas turned cats Naruto finds them all + fluff (inspired by an image I saw on Pinterest)

Votes are now closed! Ty to those who voted :]

Chapter Text

It had been almost 2 weeks since he had accidentally time-travelled to the past and a week since he had arrived in Konoha. So it was only about time for the old man to call for him. The old man had given plenty of time for him to rest and regain a good portion of his chakra. So when an Anbu came to escort him to the Hokage office he wasn’t surprised.

They entered the office where the old man was sitting at his desk hands together on top of said desk. He looked serious which Naruto still had to get used to. While he had occasionally seen the old man serious it had never been with him. Which now that he thought about it was quite sad. Because with all the times, he would declare his dream of one day being Hokage the old man would just chuckle and play along not actually believing he would become Hokage.

He hadn’t realized it back then since he was so focused on having people believe in him that he didn’t realize how many people actually thought he had a chance. It also occurred to him that when he would complain to the old man about how the villagers were mistreating him and being mean to him the old man wouldn’t do anything seemingly not caring or believing him.

‘Ouch’

He shook his head to rid of his thoughts and focused back on the situation at hand. He was currently standing in the center of the Hokage office with an Anbu by his side with the Hokage sitting in front of them.

The Anbu bowed before vanishing in a flurry of leaves when the old man made a hand motion supposedly dismissing them. With the Anbu now gone he bowed as well although it was more of a half-hearted attempt since it came out more sloppy.

“Hokage-Sama” he greeted before rising when he was motioned to.

“Kitsune-san, I take you followed my orders of going to the hospital and getting rest?” The old man asks.

“Yup! Got lots of rest after I went to the hospital they told me I was slightly chakra exhausted but other than that I was fine” he said cheerfully. Trying to downplay the fact that he was not in fact “slightly” chakra exhausted.

It didn’t work because the next thing he knew the old man was raising a questioning eyebrow at him. “Is that so? From what I heard you were severely chakra exhausted”

He laughed sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck out of habit. “Whoops must’ve misheard although it really wasn’t as bad as they made it out to be nothing I couldn’t handle”

“Kitsune-san, when I asked they said that it was a miracle that you were still able to stand let alone function as if nothing were wrong, so I take that the chakra exhaustion was indeed severe”

Instead of responding he crossed his arms and pouted. Looking like a child being scolded which in all honesty he probably was being scolded.

Sarutobi let out a long sigh and dragged a hand across his face as he looked at the masked man before him.

“Well I’m glad you look to be more well-rested but that is not what I called you here for as you may have suspected. As you know I have allowed you to stay here in Konohagakure which has not changed since our last meeting…” They stop to take a puff from the pipe that they lit while talking.

They blew a puff of smoke and continued speaking “However we have no information about you. No name, no background, and we do not know how you look, all we have is an alias that you had given to us”

“I believe you see where I am going with this yes?” The old man asked receiving a nod from the younger. Just then a knock was heard from the door which opened to reveal none other than Yamanaka Inoichi, the head of T&I.

‘Great’ he thought inwardly cursing at the current situation. “Good evening Hokage-sama” The Yamanaka greets sending cautious glances at him.

“Good evening Yamanaka-san, please come and join us” The old man returned the greeting while motioning the other inside. With a nod, they entered and quietly shut the door behind them.

“I suppose this calls for introductions Yamanaka-san please start” the old man ordered to which the Yamanaka complied. “My name is Yamanaka Inoichi, head of T&I and the one who shall be interrogating you today” The Yamanaka introduces.

“Nice to meet cha Yamanaka-san name’s Kitsune Dattebayo!” He says cheerfully with his verbal tic that he hadn’t used since he arrived in the past. A flinch came from the old man who was quick to compose himself.

He ignored it as he focused on the Yamanaka who had taken a seat in a chair that was seated in front of the Hokage’s desk and was facing towards another chair. Likely where he must sit.

“Now that you two are acquainted with each other Kitsune-san please take a seat so we can get onto the interrogation” he did as told and took a seat. “Yamanaka-san will you?” The old man asked.

At this, the Yamanaka made some hand signs and muttered some words before a glowing light appeared in the palm of their hand. “Ready Hokage-sama” they informed to which the Hokage nodded granting permission.

“Before we do start though Kitsune-san will you please remove your mask” the old man asks phrasing it like an option when in reality it was an order. Wordlessly he complied and removed his mask setting it on his lap.

The old man and Yamanaka-san still at seeing his face. Which left him confused but he didn’t ask and instead patiently waited for them to regain their composure. Soon enough they snapped out of it and proceeded on with things.

“Let’s start with a test question I would like you to lie on this one and then tell the truth when asked got it?” The Yamanaka said looking at him for confirmation to which he reserved in the form of a nod.

“What is your favorite color?”

“Green” he answered to which he felt a small shock causing him to let out a small yelp in both surprise and mild pain. “Apologies I had forgotten to mention that when you lie you will receive a small shock” the other explained with an apologetic look.

“It’s fine” he reassured looking at the other’s hand that was holding the glowing light which had turned a dark blue color.

“Ok now tell the truth this time” the other instructs.

“What is your favorite color?”

“Orange and light blue” This time the light turned a nice pale blue and he received no shock. The Yamanaka nodded in satisfaction before looking directly at him.

“We are going to start the real questions now and don’t lie. For the more you lie the worse the shock will become, ready?” They asked. “Yeah” he said taking a breath to calm his nerves.

“What is your name?”

‘Kurama! What should I say?’ It’s the only thing we didn’t come up with because we couldn’t decide!’ He asks panicked though outwardly he looked calm.

‘Damn it brat just say it’s Asahi’ the bijuu says. He mentally nods before responding to the question. “Asahi” he answers in a quiet steady voice so as not to reveal his inward panic.

He didn’t feel the shock much to his surprise given it was a lie and the glowing light turned into the pale blue color.

‘Huh’

‘You don’t technically exist in this timeline. Well, you do but it’s not you it’s past you not current you. And since future you never existed in the past you don’t exist in this timeline since you are from the future’ Kurama explains.

‘Oh..’ he says letting the words sink in. He didn’t have much time to mull Kurama’s words over because Yamanaka-san was asking another question.

“What are your intentions for coming to Konoha?”

“An old man I knew told me to come here if anything were to happen to him and the others so here I am to become a shinobi and become strong enough to protect my precious people.” He half lies. The light stays pale blue and no shock comes.

“Where did you live before now?”

“In a small unnamed village that was destroyed by a missing-nin not long ago” another half-truth.

“Where do your origins lie?”

“I am an orphan and don’t know who my parents were nor do I have many memories of my past. I was raised by the old man who directed me to come here” he answers as he and Kurama practiced. Just as they were hoping both the Hokage and Yamanaka felt pity for him. Although they concealed it well their chakra gave away their true emotions.

The interrogation went on without a hitch and soon enough Yamanaka-san was exiting the room after being dismissed by the old man. He was also just about ready to take his leave and was just finalizing some things with the old man when the door swung open.

His and the old man’s conversation came to an abrupt halt as they both turned their attention to the man who rudely interrupted them.

“Danzo I have already told you to stop coming into my office unannounced much less when I have a guest over. What is your reasoning this time?” The old man asks addressing the other man now known as Danzo.

‘Wait Danzo? As in the Danzo that ordered Itachi to massacre his whole clan?’ He asked Kurama . Yes that Danzo fishcake’  Kurama grumbled confirming his question.

Now knowing who this was Na-Asahi turned to face the man who was having a heated conversation with the old man. He found himself being ignored and he couldn’t be more glad because he could use this to listen in to what they were arguing about. It so happened that he was the topic of this argument.

“You are taking a dangerous risk Hiruzen by letting an outsider join the ranks. For all we know they could be a spy sent by an enemy village! You’re putting the village in danger by taking this risk” Danzo hisses anger clear as day.

The old man let out a long tired sigh likely having had this argument several times before. “I understand your concern for the village Danzo but if you had been more patient and waited as I told you then you would have known that Asahi is not a spy nor a threat to the village”

Danzo visibly reddened but before they could say anything else the old man spoke again. “Danzo, that is the end of the discussion I do not wish to hear any more.” They said with no room for argument. Danzo looked as if he would burst at any given moment with how mad they looked.

The old man ignored the other in turn for turning their attention to Asahi who was now standing off to the corner of the room.

“Asahi I deeply apologize for you having to witness that. I do not expect you to forgive Danzo for what he has said but he was simply worried for the sake of the village I do hope you understand his concerns” the old man said looking apologetic for what had just happened.

Instead of responding Asahi gave a short nod keeping his face blank to not show his discomfort and hatred for the man. He understood where Danzo may have been coming from but even then it was very unprofessional of them to barge in like they had done and make a whole scene. And judging from how the old man reacted it wasn’t the first this had happened.

-Not that he ever cared about being professional but maybe just maybe it was because this man was the reason Sasuke had grown to be an avenger-

He turned his attention from the old man to Danzo who had now calmed down and didn’t look as if he was about to burst a blood vessel anymore. Danzo was also staring at him with unblinking eyes it was unsettling, to say the least.

He averted his gaze from the man but still felt the other's gaze lingering on him making him shuffle uncontrollably in his place. The old man cleared their throat to gather both of their attention effectively doing so as they both turned to him.

“Let’s start anew and do introspection shall we?” They said while gesturing for Danzo to start first. Begrudgingly the other man did so.

“I am Shimura Danzo, trusted advisor of the Sandaime and student of the Nidaime, Tobirama Senju.” The old Warhawk introduced trying to look intimidating. He had a feeling that the other included being the old man’s advisor and the Nidaime’s student so he could silently show his power and influence.

He didn’t let that bother him and kept his poker face on as he introduced himself. “Greetings Shimura-sama, I am Asahi,” he said coolly. The old man cleared their throat again “Well now that introductions are done Asahi you are dismissed. Danio please stay behind.”

He gave a bow before turning and leaving as fast as possible not wanting to be in the same room as Danzo. He made quick work of exiting the Hokage Tower and going wherever his legs took him.

Soon enough he found himself in a park. It was the same park that he would watch from afar as a child. Dreaming of one day being able to go and play with the other children without being shunned. The day never came of course because he was never truly recognised until after he defeated Pein.

He shook his head to clear his bad thoughts and turned to leave the park. Not until he stole one last glance at the playground and children happily playing. He smiled at the innocence the children still had none of it being plagued by war or that of the shinobi life. He left with a sad smile and made his way back to his apartment.

‘I really am in the past aren’t I?’ He asked more to himself than Kurama. The fox stayed silent feeling that their container-turned-friend wasn’t looking for an answer but more for someone to listen.

‘I am Asahi, Asahi who is just an orphan who lost the people who took care of him and is now hoping to be a shinobi. Not Naruto who was shunned by the village and dreamed of being Hokage, fought in a war against an angry moon goddess and Madara somehow won, and then accidentally time travelled

‘Kit, you’re still Naruto at heart but you are also now Asahi. Nothing can change that you’re still Naruto. The same Naruto who befriended the Kyuubi no Kitsune and the same Naruto who never gave up on his friends. Even though you’re now Asahi you will always be Konoha’s number one most unpredictable knucklehead ninja’

He stayed quiet for a moment eyes glistening with unshod tears. He then let out a watery laugh. His sad smile was replaced with a bright grin as he used his arm to wipe away any tears. ‘Thanks, Kurama, I needed that’ he said to the fox. ‘Don’t get all sappy with me now fishcake and get to your apartment already it’s getting dark’

‘Awww come on Kurama why did you need to ruin our moment~’ He whined but either way picked up his speed in returning to his apartment. The old fox just huffed and didn’t respond making him laugh slightly. And just like that everything went back to normal.

(( For the record I’m going to be using a mishmash of English variety of words and Japanese variety of words like instead of Kaa-san or Tou-san it’s just mother and father (this is a lie I will also be using these) but I will be using basic honorifics and what not why? Chapter Text

Asahi was shopping for groceries when he first met this timeline’s Sasuke. He was at a stall looking at some fruit when he felt a spike in chakra. Looking in the direction it came from he saw what look to be a mini Sasuke holding onto an older woman’s dress.

It was an adorable sight to see as chubby fingers tightly curled around the lower part of the dress. He allowed himself to smile at the sight not noticing the bit of chakra he let slip by.

Turning back to continue his shopping he decided to buy some tomatoes (he just needed tomatoes ok? No other reason.) After paying the stall owner he took out a piece of paper to see what the next item on the list was.

Just as he was about to go to a new stall to get the last item he needed, he felt a tug on his pants. Looking down he saw the chibified version of his best friend looking up at him with big innocent eyes.

“Hello little guy did you need anything?” He asked, inwardly cooing at how adorable past Sasuke was. Instead of responding the toddler put their arms up making grabby hands at him. When he didn’t pick the toddler up their lip began to wobble and their eyes began to well with unshead tears.

In a panic as not to make the toddler cry he scooped them up and placed them on his hip, bouncing them lightly. Satisfied mini Sasuke attached himself to Asahi’s neck and acted like nothing happened.

‘Kurama!?’  he inwardly screeched as he freaked out.

‘I saw kit, the little brat has been following you since you first saw him I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want you to panic and I thought the brat’s mother would’ve found him by now’  the fox explained with a flick of their many tails.

‘They’re going to think I kidnapped him! What do I do!?’

‘Find the brat’s mother and tell them that you found him and decided to help because he looked lost’

‘More like he found me’ he mused ‘Alright I’ll do that thanks Kurama!’ he said getting a grunt from the fox who went to continue their nap.

“Alright bud we need to find your mom do you know where she is?” He asked looking down only to find an already half asleep Sasuke.

Huffing he let the toddler be and let his chakra do it’s thing looking for any panicked chakra or an Uchiha’s chakra.

‘I really should stop suppressing my senses’ he couldn’t help acknowledge once he found a chakra signature that matched what he was looking for.

Following the chakra signature he finds the same woman that mini Sasuke was with when he first saw him. The woman was currently talking with a stall owner appearing at ease.

On the outside no one would've thought she was panicked and frantically searching for her child with how composed she was but her chakra said otherwise with how it is buzzing and irritated. And the spikes of chakra every handful of seconds.

Still carrying a now sleeping toddler in his arms, he walked over to the woman. “Uhm, excuse me ma’am. Is this your child?” He asked nodding his head towards the sleeping toddler in his arms when the woman turned to look at him.

Her eyes widening momentarily in what, if her chakra is to be believed, is shock, though he doesn’t know from what. Ignoring it he looked at her with a questioning gaze. Snapping out of her shock she regained her composure from the outside.

Though from the way her chakra has subdued she has at least calmed down, but was slightly suspicious if not cautious.

“Yes he is, I was getting worried since he had wandered off while I was shopping, which is strange of him, since he has never done that before. But thank you- ah I suppose I haven’t gotten your name? I am Mikoto”

“Nice to meet you Mikoto-san my name’s Asahi dattebayo!” he said cheerfully with a genuine smile.

“Pleasure to meet you Asahi-san” Mikoto said returning the pleasantries.

“Just Asahi is fine,” he said rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand. “Oh here he fell asleep when I was finding you” finally realizing that he still was carrying the small Uchiha he started to pry their small hands away from around his neck to hand him to Mikoto-san.

Once he successfully pried the toddler’s hands from around his neck he slowly handed them to Mikoto-san who was patiently waiting.

When Sasuke was in his mother’s arms he started to stir awake. Eyes slowly opening, mini Sasuke rubbed at his eyes letting out a yawn. Once more awake Sasuke looked at his mother then looked at Asahi and then to his mother again.

Realization seemed to dawn on the toddler because before they knew it he was already getting ready to start crying.

Trying to calm her child down Mikoto started bouncing the toddler to shush. It didn’t work if anything it made it worse. Ear piercing cries sounded from the toddler causing him and Mikoto to flinch.

“I apologizes for his behavior, he's usually never like this I don’t know what has gotten into him today” Mikoto apologized.

“It not your fault he must just be having a bad day” he reasoned.

They stood in silence for a couple moments with Mikoto attempting to quiet Sasuke down from his scream-crying. ‘The brat sure does have a set of lungs on him’ Kurama grumbled, clearly irritated. He was compelled to agree since Sasuke has been crying his lungs out for the past 5 minutes, and counting, nonstop. He was starting to worry with the way the toddlers face was getting redder by the second. He shifted awkwardly from where he stood fidgeting with his hands.

‘Just hold the damn brat already. Preferably before my ears start to bleed.' the bijuu growled in distain, covering their ears in a futile attempt to block the child's wailing.  'On second thought I think my ears are bleeding’

‘Oh quit being a drama queen ya old fox, but whatcha mean by ‘hold him already’?’

‘The brat obviously wants to be held by you so just hurry up and comply before I bite it’s head off’ the bijuu threatened.

With a huff Asahi mentality shook his head in exasperation. Deciding to try and do what the fox said as he focused back on reality.

Poor Mikoto-san was still trying to get Sasuke to stop crying but to no avail and he could tell she was tired as well as worried. Taking pity on her he spoke “Uhm, is it alright if I try and maybe hold him? I mean, maybe he will calm down you never know-“ he started to trail off nervously.

Mikoto seemed to contemplate the suggestion for a while before sighing and slowly nodding. Wordlessly, she stopped bouncing Sasuke and let him reach out to take the small ravenette.

With the toddler in his arms he looked down at their red face. “Hey bud” he spoke softly his cerulean blue eyes meeting the watery onyx colored eyes of the toddler, whose cries had dulled to sniffles.

“Now isn’t that better? All that crying must’ve tired you out huh?” He asked tilting his head slightly. The toddler copied his motion and also tilted their head still keeping their eyes on the blond.

They stayed like that for a good while Asahi allowing the toddler to curiously grab at his cheeks where there were 3 thin lines on each that made it look like he had whiskers.

Mikoto silently watched the interaction between her son and the stranger who introduced himself as Asahi. She found herself being pleasantly surprised at what she saw. Sasuke was known to dislike when anyone, other than her eldest and herself, attempted to hold him or be anywhere remotely near him.

And for her youngest to throw a tantrum to be with a complete stranger was shocking, but she didn’t find herself to really mind. After all she trusted her son's judgement, plus Asahi didn’t seem to have any bad intentions as far as she could tell. So in her book Asahi was more than alright.

She didn’t know why she so quickly trusted the stranger, but she found herself doing so. Maybe it was irrational of her but the warm feeling of the blonde’s chakra reminded her oh so much of Kushina's. Maybe it was for that very reason, but whatever the reason may be she allowed herself to and that’s all that mattered.

Noticing the sun was beginning to set, she turned to the young blond who was holding her youngest that clung to the blond’s neck with droopy eyes which they were trying their best to keep from closing.

She chuckled lightly at the sight raising a hand to cover her mouth and muffled the sound. Asahi seemed to notice her amusement either way by the way a flush of red appeared on his face and he looked away in embarrassment.

“Looks like it’s time for someone’s nap time," she said amused "Thank you for helping calm him down Asahi-san maybe you should come over for dinner?” She suggested with a warm smile. Asahi looked at her in stunned silence, trying to form words.

“I-uh don’t want to intrude, plus I just wanted to help is all no need to repay me” he said when he finally found his voice to speak

"Nonsense, it would be my pleasure to have you. Also, he seems to like you” she said pointing at the toddler with a smile on her face.

After insisting to come over for dinner Asahi finally agreed. They ended up walking to the Uchiha compound with Sasuke peacefully asleep in his arms snuggled close to his chest with the groceries put into a storage scroll.

They had arrived at the compound and Mikoto-san led them to her house it was the biggest among the rest and at the center of the compound. Mikoto-san lead him to Sasuke’s room to put the toddler to bed, but when he tried the toddler would start to wake and would cling onto him tighter.

Eventually resigning to his fate as a human pillow he held the toddler the whole time as he helped Mikoto-san unload the groceries from the storage scroll he had lent her.

After insisting to help prepare dinner and being denied, Mikoto-san assigned him the job setting the table since he was still holding her youngest.

When he finished setting the table he took a seat with the toddler placed on his lap still asleep. He stayed seated for another 30 minutes before 2 others joined him. One of them looking identical to Sasuke and the other being an older male with dark brown hair and a serious gaze.

They intensely stared at him for a few moments before Mikoto came out with dinner much to his relief. The staring was getting uncomfortable after all. With Mikoto in the room the 2 new arrivals looked at her as if silently asking her something.

Supposedly knowing what they are asking Mikoto-san merely smiled and placed the dinner on the table. Which consisted of fried fish, steamed rice, and green beans. Motioning for the other 2 to sit she took a seat herself.

The others follow in suit and take their respective seats. The Sasuke look-alike, Itachi, if his memory served him right and the dark brown haired man sat on either side of Mikoto-san like a protective barrier.

Once everyone was seated Mikoto-san spoke “This is Asahi, I met him while I was buying groceries with Sasuke-kun after he had wandered off while I wasn't looking. I couldn’t find him, but luckily Asahi-san found him and brought him back to me. When we were about to head home Sasuke-kun started to cry and wouldn’t stop crying until Asahi-san here held him so I decided to invite him to have dinner” she finished her explanation with a smile.

Itachi looked somewhat stunned but hardly showed it as well as the other man. “This is my eldest son, Itachi, and this is my husband, Fugaku,” Mikoto-san introduced.

The brown haired man, now known as Fugaku, gave a nod in greeting and Itachi gave a polite smile. With introductions out of the way they began to eat.

When we all finished eating Mikoto left to get the desert which was dango and taiyaki with red bean paste. Itachi’s eyes seemed to light up when he spotte the dango and once the desert was placed down and Mikoto-san sat back down, Itachi instantly went for it.

He couldn’t help but let out an amused snort causing the others to look at him. “Sorry, sorry, it just that it seems to me that Itachi-kun really likes dango”

Itachi looked down embarrassed as red dusted the tip of his ears. Mikoto-san chuckles at this and nodded “Why yes, he does love dango it’s one of his favorites,” she said smiling. He nods along while taking small bites out of his taiyaki.

Sasuke seemed to have had enough of a nap and decided to start waking up. Lifting their head from his lap he peaked out from under the table.

“Morning bud,” he said softly as he looked at the toddler. Sasuke turned to look up at him and crawled out from under the table and sat himself on his lap, back leaning on him still half asleep.

The others who had been watching the interaction stayed quiet. “You hungry?” He asked the toddler who look up at him from where he was seated in his lap. With a small nod from the toddler he served himself a few green beans and gave one to the toddler.

The toddler grabbed it and started to nibble on it. With the toddler eating he looked back up at the others noticing that they had been watching him the whole time.

Itachi was the one who was staring more intensely. While Mikoto just smiled warmly and Fugaku looked indifferent, he could tell though that he was slightly surprised and maybe slightly jealous for some reason?

Itachi was the first to speak “He seems to like you very much Asahi-san, normally he wouldn’t allow anyone to be near him much less hold him unless it’s either me or my mother and he tolerates my father at most” at the reminder of this Fugaku slightly grimaced not noticeable unless you have experience with reading people’s expressions.

Sasuke having finished the pieces of green beans given to him was now snuggled closer to Asahi’s chest, content with just staying there.

“Really?” Asahi asked.

“Mhm, little Sasuke there cried the first time Fugaku tried holding him and the times after that,” Mikoto said with amusement clearly in her voice. Fugaku in turn look the other way covering his face.

He snorted in amusement at this imagining a baby Sasuke screaming his lungs off just because he didn’t want to be held by his father. “Is this true bud?” He asked looking down at the toddler in his lap who was already starting to drift off again.

Slowly blinking Sasuke tilted his head as he looked up at him. With a huff he ruffled the toddler’s hair fondly. The toddler in which leaned into his touch closing their eyes as they did so.

“It looks like he’s tired he should be put to bed and I also should probably head out as well it’s getting rather dark already and I think my shadows have long since noticed that they have been looking after a clone this whole time” he said with a bright and mischievous smile.

Unknowingly, he let some chakra slip out into the room. The four Uchihas basked in the warmth of the blond’s chakra any remaining tension or suspicion forgotten.

With the chakra gone again Itachi, Mikoto, and even Fugaku found themselves missing the warm and cheery chakra although they didn’t show it while Sasuke let out a small whine.

He looked down at the toddler worriedly but they had gone back to peacefully sleeping. Deciding to ignore it he stood up from the table with Sasuke in arms. At this Itachi stood as well and walked over to him.

“Here” Asahi said handing the sleeping toddler to awaiting arms. Luckily this time the toddler didn’t wake. With a sigh of relief he turned to the others.

“Thank you for having me Mikoto-san, the food was amazing and it was a pleasure to meet you Fugaku-san, Itachi-kun, I hope we meet again 'ttebayo!” he said with a blinding smile.

“It was a pleasure having you Asahi-san.” Mikoto-san warmly smiled.

“Till next time,” he said before shunshining away to his apartment. Once there he kicked off his sandals and left them by the door. Going to his room he got a change of clothes and went to the bathroom to shower.

After a nice long, hot shower Asahi went over to the couch instead of his room and flopped down on it. By now he had his shadows back having found him again after running around the whole village trying to find him.

He felt his eyes droop close as he was transported to his and Kurama’s shared mindscape. He made his way tiredly to the napping fox and plopped himself by the fox. Burrowing himself in the softness of what was the fox’s fur. Soon enough he drifted off to yet another dreamless sleep.

Chapter Text

Asahi was bored and when Asahi is bored nothing good ever comes out of it. The last time he was bored he accidentally time-traveled to the past which whoops. But he was bored and unsupervised and he is again bored and unsupervised. Well unless you count the ANBU watching him as supervision but they could easily be dealt with by activating a couple of privacy seals.

Anyways, the point is that he was bored and unsupervised. So what better than to get new summons? Which brought him to where he was now asking -whining for Kurama to tell him- Kurama if he knew any summoning contracts that he would be suitable for.

He had disbanded the contract with the toads after winning the war to let them grieve their losses and not wanting to put them in danger again. Even with the toads’ insistence that he didn’t need to disband the contract, he insisted and eventually, they gave in.

“Kuramaaaa come on stop being such a big party pooper and tell me already~” Asahi whined as he lay dramatically draped over the fox’s paw. “Pleaseee if not I’ll die of boredom and we wouldn’t want that to happen now do we?”

“I couldn’t care less if you died of boredom brat” The old fox grumbled. Asahi let out a dramatic gasp while placing a hand over his heart as if offended “Betrayed by my friend as I lie here dying what has the world come to?” He says dramatically turning his head to the side as if he was dying.

The bijuu in turn just let out a snort and rolled their eyes at their host’s antics. “Oh quit being dramatic and maybe I’ll think about it” Just like that Asahi was up on their feet as if nothing happened bouncing up and down in excitement. “Really?” He said excitedly.

With a huff, the fox responded “I said I’ll think about it don’t get your hopes up” As if not hearing a word they had just said Asahi hugged the fox’s paw while excitedly thanking him before leaving their shared mindscape.

With a sigh, Kurama mumbled something about ‘Uzumakis’ and got to work.

After many long and gruelling hours of waiting and wasting away on his apartment floor. Kurama finally called him into their shared mindscape. “What took you so long! I was dying y’know!” Asahi complained sprawled out on the fox’s paw again.

“Quit being a drama queen or I won’t give you the contract” the bijuu threatened. Gasping Asahi sprung up a hand over his heart in fake offence “You wouldn’t dare!” He shouted accusingly. “I would dare,” the fox said with a smirk.

“Why are you so mean Kurama~” he whined. “Oh shush do you want the contract or not?”

“Yeah! Come on don’t keep me waiting ‘rama give it here pleaseeee” he pleaded excitedly bouncing up and down. With a huff, Kurama gave the summoning contact to the excited blond. Thanks, Kurama! You’re the best!” The blond said before leaving the mindscape.

‘What summon is it?’ He asked curiously looking over the scroll ‘It’s a fox summon contract since you’re my jinchuuriki it’s only proper for you to have them plus I never like those frogs anyways’ the fox said. ‘They’re toads! Not frogs and they were amazing!’ He defended. ‘Same thing now enough of that sign the contract already’

With a nod, he unrolled the scroll and got a kunai to cut his finger watching as blood pooled up. Just as he was about to write his name he paused ‘Do I write my actual name or Asahi?’ He asked. ‘Whichever one you feel like writing kit’ Kurama answered.

Nodding he wrote Asahi before pulsing some chakra into the contract. A beat went by with nothing happening and he began to doubt if it worked. Then there was a large puff of smoke that appeared from where the contract was. Another beat of silence and then a yelp was heard from within the smoke.

“Watch where you’re stepping you low life!” A voice screeched from the smoke. “Who are you calling a low life? You pampered bastard!” Another voice yelled and a thud was heard “Get off me you filthy garbage!” The first voice demanded. “Not until you take back what you said you self-centered royal” the second voice replies sounding smug.

When the smoke cleared there were two foxes one a dark royal blue and the other a honey yellow. The royal blue one was trying to shove the other fox off of them while the fox looked smug as the other struggled underneath them.

He cleared his throat and both of the foxes stilled and turned to look in his direction. “Uhm hi?” He said giving an awkward wave “Who are you? And where are we!” The blue one demanded having successfully escaped from underneath the other. It was then that he noticed the two tails that were cautiously swaying behind them. He looked at the honey-colored fox and only saw that they had the normal, one tail.

‘Uhm Kurama a little help here please?’

‘What would you do without me’ the old fox grumbled before making a mini chakra version of themself. It was significantly smaller than their original form but slightly bigger than a large dog and instead of their usual nine tails, it only had five of them.

“Y-you’re the great Kyuubi no Kitsune!” The blue fox stampers out a mixture of awe and nervousness clear in their voice. “That is correct. This is my host Asahi he is the new contractor for the fox summons” Kurama explained staring the two foxes down.

“Kurama~ why are you being so serious? It’s weird ‘ttebayo!” Asahi whined. He turned towards the two new arrivals who both looked as if they were about to faint at any given moment. “Anyways I’m Asahi ‘ttebayo! And this old fox is Kurama nice to meetcha what are your names?” He greeted cheerfully earning a sigh from Kurama who settled themselves next to him resting their head on his lap.

“You’re on a first-name basis with the Kyuubi no Kitsune?!” The yellow fox yelled. He tilted his head in confusion “Uhm yes? We are friends after all” he said like it was a well-known fact. “WHAT!?” Both of the foxes yelled in union causing him to be more confused.

“Kurama why are they so surprised?” He asked the fox who had their head resting in his lap. The fox let out a deeper sigh before responding “Kit, I am hailed as a legend among the fox summons a god even” the fox explained dryly. “Wait really?! That’s so cool dattebayo!” He said in awe.

Kurama let out a huff before looking at the two other foxes who were still in shock. “Well? Are you going to answer or are you just going to stand there” the fox asked looking bored. At being addressed both the foxes snap out of their shock. “I-uhm sorry, what did you ask?” The yellow fox asked looking sheepish.

“What your names are!” he repeated cheerfully. “Oh I’m Rei and that royal bastard is Riku” the yellow fox now known as Rei says. Riku glared at Rei at the way they introduced him. “What this lowlife peasant meant to say was that I am Riku and am a descendent of the kitsune” Riku stated proudly.

“Wait you’re royalty?!” He exclaimed looking at Riku with surprise. “Isn’t it obvious? Of course I am royalty I am a descendant of the kitsune after all” Riku says. “Huh is that why you have 2 tails?” He asked curious.

“Indeed. Those who are descendants of the kitsune are considered royalty and will grow a new tail for every century they live which makes me 2 centuries old. Although I will soon earn my third tail”

“That’s so cool!” He exclaimed with fascination. Riku proudly showed off his two tails head held high at the praise he received from the blond. Rei seemingly tired of Riku’s boasting tripped the other when they were doing a spin causing Riku to faceplant into the floor.

Angrily Riku got up “What was that for!?” They screeched. “I did nothing you tripped on your own” Rei replied looking unfazed by the yelling. Just as Riku was about to tackle Rei Asahi stopped them. “How about we calm down and find something to do instead?” He suggested.

Both the foxes seemed to think for a moment before nodding. At this Asahi stood up along with Kurama who then disappeared deciding that he had done enough socializing for the day. “So! Whatcha wanna do?” He asked while stretching.

It was Rei who responded first “It’s our first time being summoned so we don’t really know what there is to do” they explained. “Oh yeah uhm do you guys know how to do pranks?” Both of the foxes gave a mischievous grin at this.

Just like that the start of a chaotic friendship had just bloomed. And if Konoha gained 3 new pranksters then they will never figure out who they were. The only evidence of their existence is the now freshly painted cat faces on the Hokage faces.

Notes:

Riku is NOT a descendant of Kurama. There were other kitsune but they have by now gone extinct kinda? Idk but there aren’t anymore pure blood kitsune meaning they can’t get all 9 tails only up to like 6. So yeah just wanted to clear that up. Kurama and the kitsune are different and not related in the slightest bc Kurama is like a being made of purely chakra while the kitsune were an animal summon thing (I suck at explaining my thoughts)

Another thing, Kurama is around the size of a great dane just slightly taller :P (this is honestly irrelevant but like I felt like putting it here)

Sorry, it took so long kinda had to deal with a shitty New Year (like always) and some other stuff. Plus I gave you guys 2 chapters in a month when it should’ve only been one. But anyways! I have returned! >:D

Chapter Text

Asahi had been working on improving his seals since lunch and that had been a few hours ago. He honestly felt bad for the ANBU that had been assigned to watch him for the day. He can’t imagine staying still for that long doing nothing and with the way their chakra flickered in annoyance they must be getting restless as well.

So he decided that was enough of seals and headed out the door to go on a walk. He can practically hear the sigh of relief that came from the ANBU.

He was lost in thought when he heard yelling coming from nearby. The noise had brought him out of his thoughts allowing him to notice that it was already sundown. Curiosity having gotten the best of him he allowed himself to walk in the direction the yelling was coming from.

He found himself in an alleyway where a crowd was gathered. They were yelling profanities at something or other someone. There was a small blonde covered with bruises and cuts. His brain short circuited when he realized who it was. It was him  although from the past it was still him . At this realization he went to fend off the angry mob of drunken villagers.

“Oi! Leave them alone!” he yelled angrily. The villagers looked at him in mild shock which then morphed into disgust and anger. “Are yo’ talkin ‘bout this dem’n?” One of them asked. “Who are you to call a child a demon?” He said disgust clear on his face. “Tha’ thing is no ch’ld is a mo’ste’, a mur’erer! It kille’ my famil’!” One of the drunk men slurred out.

“Ye’h this mo’ster killed my wif’ and unbor’ s’n” another said anger evident in their voice. With that everyone started saying what the supposed ‘demon’ child did and how they should not be allowed to live and how they would be doing the world a favor if it where gone.

With the villagers distracted he weaved around them and picked the unconscious child up. He could sense his shadow tense from where they were watching. He tsked and jumped to the roof with the child safely tucked away in his arms.

He ran across the rooftops till he made his way to his apartment. (Deciding doors are overrated) He easily slipped through the window in one swift motion.

Going into his room he place the sleeping toddler on the bed to rest. By the time he had gotten to the apartment the cuts on the toddler had already started to heal. The deeper ones were still healing while the smaller cuts had completely vanished thanks to past Kurama.

By the looks of it past him was around 1-3 years old but he couldn’t really tell because he had always been smaller than other children his age when he was younger because of not having an adult to tell him what a balanced meal is. Causing him to be malnourished. At least that was until he joined the academy and he had Iruka-sensei constantly lecturing him about it.

But even if he did listen to Iruka-sensei’s advise he wouldn’t have much luck with how the stall and shop owners would only sell him rotten food and even if it wasn’t rotten it would be twice or thrice it’s original price.

Shaking the thoughts from his head he went to get the first-aid-kit that he found in the bathroom when he was looking around. Crouching down he opened the cabinet below the bathroom sink and brought the kit out.

With the first aid kit in hand he went back to his bedroom where he left the toddler. As he entered the room he saw that they were still unconscious but their face was also scrunched up with their eyebrows furrowed. They looked to be in distress.

Sighing as he remembered the nightmares that had once plagued his dreams when he was younger. They had always been about the villagers and their treatment towards him. Although as he got older and found a support of people they had faded but once Sasuke had left the village they had returned.

But instead of the villagers it was of the people close to him leaving him, thinking he was a monster. He had to learned to ignore them when the fourth war started and they fought against Madara and Kaguya.

After they had won the war and successfully sealed Kaguya away he had some time to try and deal with them but with new trauma from the war it made them worse and then he accidentally time traveled which didn’t do much with helping his stress. Plus knowing you will never be able to see your friends and family from your time again didn’t do much to improve his mental health.

He pushed his feelings out of the way to deal with later when the time came and focused on the task at hand which was to 1 disinfect and bandage any open cuts on the child and 2 comfort them.

He moved towards the bed and sat on the edge placing the first-aid on the bed opening it. Taking some disinfectant out he gently cleaned the cuts bandaging them afterwards. Luckily or unluckily for him didn’t seem to wake the toddler who was still trapped in whatever nightmare they were currently having.

Putting the bandages and disinfectant away he closed the first aid and moved it onto the nightstand by the bed. With the cuts carefully bandaged and disinfected he moved onto the second thing he was going to do which was comfort the child.

Ever so gently he carded a hand through the child’s hair. Which seemed to calm them down significantly with the way their face seemed to soften and look more peaceful. Also with how past him leaned into the touch subconsciously.

He allowed himself to smile at this and started to hum a tune he faintly remembered Sakura humming when he was over for dinner.

Parrot watched the interaction silently from the tree they were perched on. They had been on watch duty over the new newcomer. Who from what they had been told was called Asahi.

When Asahi had first gone out for a walk they had been relieved beyond belief. Their limbs were becoming stiff from how long they had been in the same position.

What they weren’t expecting was for Asahi to run into a mob of angry and drunken villagers beating their unconscious jinchuriki in an alleyway. Much less were they expecting for Asahi to do anything about it.

While they would’ve interfered they could have only done so if it was life threatening. Which they called bull because no child should be put through that treatment. Especially when they had done nothing wrong.

But alas they couldn’t do anything but watch, per the counsel and Hokage’s orders. They would’ve check on the kid after the mob of villagers died down to make sure they were alright.

But it looked like they didn’t need to because Asahi did it for them by sneaking past the villagers and picking the kid up before jumping to the roof with the child in arms.

Now they were watching as Asahi bandaged and comforted the boy while humming a foreign tune. The tune was a nice one, one made to calm or hum during a chore to fill the silence.

As they continued to watch they noticed how down Asahi looked. They look to be reminiscing on something, what he couldn’t say. Soon enough the child calmed with the efforts of the older who looked tired and about to drift off at any given moment.

They waited a moment longer for them to do so before slipping through the window and looking at the obviously uncomfortable position the other was in. Deciding that they didn’t care if they got caught they moved the older blond next to the younger so they would be more comfortable.

With that they slipped back out the window and continued to watch till sunrise and a new ANBU came to take their job.

Asahi woke up with a start for one he had something warm latched onto his side. And he felt much better it’s like a heavy weight was lifted from his shoulders.

While he didn’t feel perfectly fine he felt significantly better than he did before his nap. Is it even considered a nap anymore if it was for more like 6 hours instead of 15 minutes?

Well the point is he didn’t feel tired anymore and couldn’t find it in himself to open his eyes just yet to see what was latched onto his side. So he stayed like that listening to the birds sing their songs. It wasn’t until a few minutes later that yesterday’s events came back to him.

Slowly he opened his eyes and looked to the side. There clinging to his side was past him looking peaceful as they slept. He looked out window of his bedroom seeing that it was sunrise. Looking back at the sleeping form of his past self. He had to refrain himself from just keeping the kid.

But he knew that they had to get back to the orphanage even though it was never the best to him. The orphanage probably hasnt even noticed the child was gone but it wouldn’t look good on him if he was caught with their jinchuriki. Especially since he was still considered ‘new’ and has ANBU watching him 24/7.

With a sigh he carefully freed himself from the toddler’s grasp. Once he was free he gently picked them up careful not to jostle them  awake. With arms now full of one sleeping toddler he makes his way out his apartment and towards where he remembered the orphanage being.

He arrived at the orphanage which already bustling with noise. He was careful not to get caught by the children and the caretakers as he made his way into a small, empty room that only had a bed that was made up of a soft blanket with paw prints on it and a poor excuse of a pillow. The room was isolated from all the others the caretakers having not wanted him anywhere near the other children.

He slowly lowered the sleeping toddler in his arms onto the bed pulling the paw printed blanket over their sleeping form. He gave them one last head pat before turning and leaving sneaking out the way he came. Back  home- no not home never home to his apartment.

Chapter Text

After the incident with his past self, everything had gone back to normal or as normal as it could be with eyes constantly watching his every move. Overall everything was fine he had been given time to settle in and even went out to get a few more plants and nicknacks he thought were missing.

He had even picked up this one cookbook that caught his eye during one of his shopping sprees. He hasn’t used it since he got it so he decided that today would be the day he finally used it since he was in a cooking mood. He by no means was a good cook while he wasn’t the worst like Iruka-sensei he wasn’t per se the best either like Sakura-chan.

After flipping through the neatly written pages he found a recipe that looked like it would taste good. It was a spicy curry dish that if he’s being completely honest looked hard to make but that’s fine as long as he doesn’t mess up then it’ll be fine.

However, he still needs to go out and buy all the ingredients since he doesn’t have a lot of the things the recipe calls for. After getting a piece of paper and writing down all the ingredients he needed he headed out the door.

After spending far longer than he expected trying to find everything he needed he finally was back in his apartment with everything he’d need for the curry spread out on the kitchen counter.

As he looked at all the ingredients he already started regretting his decision but continued with a sigh.

Four hours. It took him four whole hours to finish the curry. And an additional 30 minutes to cook some rice. Those four hours were the most tedious hours of his life trying not to mess up or burn the curry.

Originally the recipe said that it’d only take him two hours but he somehow managed to double that time after misplacing one of the ingredients and spending a good 30 minutes looking for it and then spending another 30 minutes figuring out where he even left off.

The rest of the time was spent making sure that he put the right amount of everything and once more forgetting where he left off. But in the end, the curry tasted amazing -to his standards at least-

It was the perfect balance between spice and flavor and as he continued eating the taste just seemed to become better and better. He was overall very proud of himself and his creation.

As he continued eating he couldn’t help but feel bad for the current ANBU assigned to keep watch of him. They were just watching him eat while they couldn’t have any. Actually…now that he thinks about it maybe he can give some to them.

He stood from where he was previously seated eating his curry and walked to his cabinets opening one and taking out a bento box. He then proceeded to fill the bento with some of the curry and rice he made as well. After filling it with the food he closed it and got a sticky note to write one.

With the bento done and the note attached, he picked it up and went to the window where his plants were. Opening the window he placed the bento on the windowsill before looking at where the ANBU was hiding and heading back to his food as if nothing had happened.

Later that day he noticed that the bento was gone and the window now closed again. He couldn’t help but smile and wonder if they enjoyed the food.

The next day he found a now empty and clean bento on his kitchen counter. He smiled to himself and put the bento box back in the cabinet before starting his day-to-day chores.

It wasn’t until later that very day that the ANBU from the other day was back and swapped out with the previous ANBU. Since he still had leftovers from the other day he decided to serve himself some as well as an extra plate for his ANBU friend. That’s if they decide to join him at least -which was very likely-

It didn’t even take 10 minutes before the ANBU gave in to temptation and decided to join him. They had shunshinned into his apartment and then awkwardly stared at him and food as if they didn’t think that far ahead into their plan. He had found it incredibly amusing but decided to take pity on them as he watched them eye the food.

“You can come eat ya know?” He didn’t receive a response but the ANBU did -although hesitantly- come and take a seat. He turned away from them when they sat down so they could eat. They were ANBU after all and people weren’t necessarily meant to know who they were.

They both ate in silence until they finished and he heard the ANBU stand up and the sink turn on. When he glanced back he saw the ANBU washing their plate and drying it before once more shunshinning out of the apartment.

Chapter Text

Shisui was not expecting to find Asahi in a casino of all places playing poker with a drunk man. He wasn’t expecting to ever meet Asahi at all outside of ANBU if he’s being completely honest. As far as his opinion of the man went he knew two things. One the man had good intentions from what he could tell and two made one of, if not the best curries he’s ever had the honors of tasting.

When Shisui entered the casino and spotted the man he decided to observe from afar. Based on the growing pile of chips next to him he could tell that they had been here for a while and had played several other matches with others.

He could tell the man Asahi was going against had lost because of how quickly their previously confident and cocky demeanor morphed into anger and a smidge of shock. Asahi hadn’t even flinched at their sudden outburst instead they just stared at them calmly if anything managing to look somewhat bored.

This seemed to enrage the man even more because the next thing he knew the man was lunging for the other. Before his brain could catch up with what he was doing he found himself suddenly redirecting the lunging man away from the other who looked slightly taken aback by his sudden appearance.

They both stared at each other in silence both for different reasons. One not knowing what to say while the other questioned why they had intervened. After a few awkward moments of silence Asahi seemed to have found the words they were looking for.

“Thanks for saving me from that guy I really didn’t feel like fighting him so that was a big help. Thanks again, I’m Asahi by the way nice to meet you” he says with a grateful smile.

“You’re welcome try not to get into trouble next time who knows if I’ll be here to save you again not that I think you’ll need much saving,” he said playfully words naturally coming out. This caused a laugh to come from Asahi who seemed to have loosened up as well.

“Perhaps but I don’t think I ever got my savior’s name” Asahi said lightheartedly. “Well if you truly want to know your savior then I am the one and only Shisui of the Body Flicker!” he said dramatically as he struck a pose for extra dramatics.

Asahi bursts out laughing doubling over with Shisui quickly suit. They attempt to catch their breath but the moment they look at each other they are thrown into a new fit of laughter. After a few minutes, they finally managed to regain their composure.

“Well it is a pleasure to meet you Shisui-kun” Asahi says with a bright smile. Shisui nods and returns the smile although it could never rival Asahi’s.

After getting to know each other better and playing multiple different card games Shisui was quick to find out that Asahi had what he could only describe as a blessing. The man was incredibly lucky and won every single game they played. No matter if it was Speed, Poker, Blackjack, Solitaire, hell even 21 he somehow managed to lose every . single. one . to the man.

After this discovery, Shisui decided to take full advantage of it and gamble with the man. As expected they won the jackpot on many of the slot machines. After having their fun they decided that it was for the best to not go on any longer if they didn’t want the casino to go bankrupt or worse they get kicked out for being accused of cheating.

Now they were both at a table in the corner of the casino with a box of Uno cards because of Shisui’s insistence that he would definitely beat Asahi at the game. After Asahi shuffled them and gave the proper amount of cards to each person they began the game.

The first game ended with Asahi winning and Shisui saying that he was just a bit rusty was all and that he’d definitely beat them this time.

More than 20 games later it is safe to say that they were now banned from the casino after Shisui broke his second table. Throughout their several matches played, there were only two broken tables, eightdeath threats, three broken chairs, several thrown kunai, and one banned card game.

Notes:

Sorry for yet bother short chapter :P

Btw once you become a shinobi you’re considered an adult even if you are below the normally legal drinking or gambling age which is why Shisui is allowed in the casino. (That’s how it’ll work here at least I’m pretty sure that to some extent this is also true in canon)

Shisui is 14 in this while Asahi is 17 (he time-traveled a month or so after the war ended)

Kudos and comments are always appreciated! :D

Chapter Text

Maybe just maybe he should’ve listened to Kurama and gone to sleep instead of pulling an all nighter writing down all the major things that had happened in his past and could possible happen in the now future. And perhaps he shouldn’t have gone straight to working on seals right after while being exhausted because now he was in the hospital as the aftermath of a seal malfunctioning and —quite literally— exploding in his face.

While he didn’t need to come to he hospital with Kurama being able to heal the injuries he was forced to by said fox after they told him that he should’ve listened and decided that they weren’t going to heal something caused by his own stupidity and lack of common sense. ‘As a lesson’ he said the only lesson he’s getting out of this was the fastest way to become bored.

He had been waiting for more than an hour already in the waiting room but with how busy the hospital was he couldn’t really blame them. With nothing better to do he indulged himself with creating senecios in his head.

His thoughts were abruptly cut off by the sound of crying. When he looked as to where it was coming from he found a toddler with the same recognizable cherry blossom hair as Sakura. It clicked then that before him was the same girl he had grown to see as his sister.

Who’s past self was crying in her mother’s arms as her mother tried to sooth them. They had seemingly had just gotten out from their doctor’s appointment based on the direction they came from and the colorful bandage the toddler adorned on her upper arm.

He debated whether he should offer his help in soothing the girl and decided to do so when he noticed how overwhelmed her mother looked. “Excuse me ma’am?” He hesitantly called out.

Before he could continue with offering his help she turned to look at him with a sorry expression “I’m so sorry about her. She just got her shots. I’ll make sure to calm her down. Again so sorry for the disturbance”

“Oh no no it’s ok ma’am I was just going to ask you if you needed any help to calm her down? I noticed you looked a bit overwhelmed and I thought that you deserved a breather” he quickly reassured.

“Thank you for the offer young man, but it should be my job to calm her down after all what kind of mother am I be if I can’t even calm my own child down” her voice lowered towards the end as she herself looked to be on the verge of tears.

“No one is perfect and even the best mothers need some help sometimes. Plus I could tell that you yourself are an amazing mother you’re just a little overwhelmed which is completely normal. You are human after all so please I insist” he said with a kind reassuring smile.

This seemed to have done the trick because he received a grateful smile from her. “Thank you I really needed that” she said “Mhm so if you’d like I could calm her while you go catch a breather?” He offered again. “That would be appreciated thank you I won’t take long I promise” she thanked passing the still crying toddler to him.

“Take as long as you need” he reassured as he took the toddler in his arms. With some more words exchange between the two she finally went to go catch a breather saying once more she will return soon.

Now alone with a crying toddler in his arms he took to trying to calm her down. “Hey can you look at me please?” He asked gently. When the toddler looked up at him he gave her a reassuring smile “Did you know that you were really brave today for getting your shots?”

“R-really?” The toddler asked sniffling “Mhm super brave and do you want to know what will make you look braver?” He asked “W-What?” She asked curiously. “If you stop crying the others will think you are super duper brave and strong that you got your shots without crying” he explained.

This seemed to have done the trick because soon enough the toddler wasn’t crying anymore only sniffling every once and awhile. “See I knew you were super duper brave!” He said with a bright smile letting some of his chakra spill out and engulf the toddler.

The toddler seemed to lean into the warmth that came from the chakra and calmed even more. “Now how about we introduce ourselves? I’m Asahi what about you?” He questioned with a tilt of his head. Although he already knew the answer he either way asked.

“Sakura” she said shyly “That’s such a pretty name! Nice to meet you Sakura-chan” he beamed.

Somewhere during their interaction he had summoned Riku and Rei to play with the toddler who had opened up more and looked excited to play with the foxes. Riku and Rei although hesitant at first, Riku more so than Rei but eventually gave in and began playing with the toddler allowing her to chase after them in a game of tag as well as the other way around.

They even allowed her to pet them Rei allowing it more than Riku but that didn’t seem to bother Sakura who was just happy to pet one of them. Soon enough she tired herself out and fell asleep on Rei who didn’t seem to mind much.

With her now asleep he picked her up and sat back down while she rested in his arms. He then dismissed both the foxes who said their goodbyes and disappeared in a puff of smoke.

A few minutes later Haruno-san returned looking refreshed. She once more gave him her thanks which he brushed off as being no big deal. After she left with the sleeping toddler he was left to his own thoughts before being called in by the nurse.

He in all honesty had completely forgotten about the burns he had sustained and his probably broken or fractured arm. He supposed that explained the slight throbbing he felt when carrying the toddler.

Notes:

I honestly don’t really like how this one turned out but oh well I don’t feel like rewriting it :P

Also how the hell do we not only now have 207 BOOKMARKS, MORE THAN 9 THOUSAND HITS. BUT NOW 469 KUDOS?!?! I didn’t expect people to actually read and enjoy this so ty all so much!! :DDD

> Quick question to you all. Do any of you know if Itachi called Shisui anything special like nii-san, senpai, etc. Or is it just Shisui or Shisui-kun/san?? Or maybe just cousin??? (Pls help I need answers as soon as possible if I want to get the chapter out in time and not edit it later)

Chapter Text

After his visit to the hospital, where he was berated by a very annoyed nurse, who has probably dealt with others like him one too many times, he was sent off with the orders to take it easy and rest.

Luckily for him, he was able to achieve this and was feeling good as new a few days later. (Kurama finally relented and helped speed along his recovery after a bit of persuading whining )

During the few days he spent resting he wasn’t called by the Hokage, he didn’t run into anyone new from the past, nor did he have any more accidents.

Part of that was because of Kurama, who had somehow ordered Riku and Rei to keep an eye on him before the big fox promptly went back to sleep. (It was a nice change in things and gave him some -much needed- time to manage the emotional rollercoaster he had gone through in the last month.)

He was cleaning his apartment when he got the sudden urge for something sweet. Having remembered the dango shop he saw once while out getting groceries, he decided to go and check it out.

As he was paying for his dango, he was spotted by Shisui and Itachi, who wanted some dango as well. Shisui then ran up to him with Itachi in tow, and they chatted with each other as Itachi bought their dango.

He assumed that would be the end of the interaction and was getting ready to leave when Shisui asked if he had any plans for the day, to which he answered no. At this Shisui proceeded to drag him along to watch him and Itachi train.

“That stupid bastard Makino always thinking he’s so full of himself…” Shisui ranted on about a chūnin who had been boasting about completing an A-rank mission for the past week. And in Shisui’s words, ‘an arrogant fucking bastard that needs to be knocked down a few pegs.’

“…I swear to kami next time I fucking hear him boasting about another stupid mission, I’ll make sure to give him a piece of my fucking mind” Shisui continued to grumble as he threw yet another kunai at the target, knocking over yet another kunai already embedded in the center of the target, adding to the growing pile of kunai on the forest floor.

Itachi and he had just been watching on the sidelines as the other angrily rambled on about ‘Makino’ for the past hour. They had been sharing dango after finishing the first bag midway through Shisui’s rant.

Shisui, seemingly done with his rant on how horrible and egotistical ’Makino’ was, had stopped throwing kunai at the poor tree that was on the receiving end of his frustration.

“Are you done training, Shisui-kun?” Asahi asked “Yeah,” the other gave a short reply while squatting down to collect the fallen kunai. As Shisui was collecting the kunai, he accidentally cut himself when carelessly grabbing one of them.

“Fuck-” he hissed as he took out a bandaid from his pouch and wrapped the slightly bleeding cut. Itachi and Asahi quickly made their way over to the other to make sure they were ok and didn’t hurt themselves anymore.

“Are you ok Shisui-kun?” He asked, slightly worried. “Yeah, yeah, just cut myself a bit nothing too bad,” they said, waving him off. “Be more careful next time cousin” Itachi timidly said while picking up the remaining kunai off the ground.

“Awwww, is Itachi-kun worried about me?” Shisui asked teasingly. When Itachi ignored him and continued picking up the last few kunai, Shisui, being the over-dramatic self he was, put a hand over his heart and the other on his head as he looked away as if hurt.

“How cruel of you, Itachi-kun, to ignore your wounded cousin,” he said while sniffling to add extra effects. Itachi, in turn, just rolled his eyes and returned the kunai to his cousin, who finally dropped his act and took them gratefully while smiling stupidly.

Asahi, who had watched the entire thing play out, could only shake his head in exasperation and laugh quietly at Shisui being overdramatic. “Glad to see you’re alright Shisui-kun,” he said with a smile, which was returned by the dramatic Uchiha.

Silence fell over the three before a grumble could be heard coming from Shisui’s stomach, making his face turn red from embarrassment. “Heh, guess I’m hungry after all that training," and complaining went unsaid by the other two. Shisui seemed to have thought of something since he quickly turned to look at him.

“You should come over for lunch!” He said excitedly “Mikoto-san’s food is to die for” he added with sparking eyes thinking of her food. This seemed to have drawn Itachi’s attention since he nodded in agreement. “I’m sure my mother would enjoy having your company over again.”

Asahi scratched his cheek in thought before inevitably agreeing to join them for lunch. After all, Mikoto-san did make some amazing food. Just the thought of eating her food again made his mouth water.

They soon arrived at the Uchiha compound after a few minutes of walking with Shisui chatting about anything and everything sometimes making light batter with him with Itachi silently listening to them chat and batter like children as he led them to his home.

As they arrived in front of the clan head’s house better known as where Itachi lived they quieted down and entered taking off their sandals at the entrance as Itachi went to inform his mother about their guests. Coming back with his mother a few moments later.

“Asahi-san, it’s nice to meet you again” she greeted with a warm smile. “It’s nice to see you again too Mikoto-san, sorry for coming on such short notice,” he said as he sheepishly scratched his cheek.

“It’s no worries it’s always a pleasure having you around” she reassures. Just as Shisui was about to speak up Mikoto beat him to it “No, I did’t forget about you Shisui-kun. It’s nice seeing you too” she said with amusement. Shisui turned away in embarrassment causing her to chuckle.

“Now, why don’t you boys go set the table while I prepare lunch? You can play with Sasuke when you’re done I’m sure he’ll be up from his nap by then” she says still smiling. They all simultaneously nod and go do as told.

Setting the table was faster than the last time he was tasked to do so since this time there was extra help and no sleeping toddler in his arms. When they finished Itachi went to check if Sasuke was awake.

It turns out that true to Mikoto’s words he was up from his nap by then since Itachi returned with his arms full of one very active toddler who was squirming to be let down. Once Itachi entered the living room he set the squirming toddler down.

The moment the toddler’s feet touched the ground they went running towards Asahi before latching themselves onto his leg refusing to let go no matter how much they tried to convince him to.

“No fair he’s never that excited to see me” Shisui said pouting. Itachi looked amused at the situation while he just resigned to his fate of having the toddler cling to him.

“Sasuke-kunnnn what’s so good about him? I’m so much better than him!” Shisui said trying to get the toddler to stop clinging to him “Just one hug pleaseeee” he tried one last time. He smiled in amusement when Sasuke just glanced at Shisui and stuck out his tongue at him making Shisui gasp in offense and betrayal.

Taking pity on the oldest Uchiha he looked down at the toddler. “Come on can’t you give him a hug for me?” He asked looking down to face the toddler who looked up at him with a scrunched-up face. “Pleaseee just one hug?” He asked patting the toddler’s hair.

That seemed to have done it because the toddler finally unlatched himself from his leg and went over to the depressed Shisui who was sulking in the corner and gave them a hug to which the previously depressed Uchiha brightened up at hugging the toddler back refusing to let go.

Shisui who now had Sasuke trapped in his arms carried the squirming toddler back towards the center of the living room where he and Itachi were.

“He finally gave me a hug!” He exclaimed happily while smiling widely making him look like a madman resulting in the toddler in his arms getting scared and starting to cry. “Ah, fuc-“ Shisui was cut off by a couch pillow flying towards his head thanks to Itachi “Owww that hurt Itachi-kun~ what was that for?”

“Do not swear in front of my brother” was the answer he got as he rubbed his head where he got hit. “Ok ok sorry, but uhm what do I do? He won’t stop crying!” Shisui said trying to stop the toddler from alerting Mikoto-san.

Itachi wordlessly went over and took his crying brother and started doing what he normally did to calm him down but to no avail. With furrowed brows, he looked at Asahi who was worriedly looking at Sasuke who by now had a red face from crying.

Itachi walked over to Asahi and handed Sasuke over to him. Within a few seconds, Sasuke’s crying gradually stopped as he looked at the blond with teary eyes. The blond in question unknowingly made some of his chakra wrap around the toddler when he felt their distressed chakra.

The two other Uchihas in the room watched as the toddler almost instantly calmed when in the other’s arms. The oldest of the two was in awe at how fast the toddler calmed down while the youngest of them seemed to have expected it with the way they nodded their head in satisfaction.

They also couldn’t help but notice how warm they felt. It wasn’t a stuffy kind of warmth but more like the warmth of a blanket or the morning sun. It made them feel safe and secure but also sleepy even though it was only midday.

This feeling was because when Asahi unknowingly surrounded Sasuke in a blanket of chakra he also surrounded everyone else in the room with his chakra because of his large reserves. Although none of them knew that. They just basked in the feeling of warmth and safety.

The toddler had stopped crying and was now soundlessly asleep in Asahi’s arms having tired themselves out from crying. Asahi sighed as he carried the sleeping toddler not knowing what to do now that the toddler had fallen asleep.

Just then Mikoto called them to come eat since the food was ready, making Shisui and Itachi snap out of their previously sleepy state as they quickly made their way to the dining room and took a seat. Mikoto soon entered with 4 bowls of miso ramen one for each of them. She set a bowl in front of them all and took a seat herself.

His eyes sparkled as he stared at the mouthwatering ramen. Once they all had a bowl in front of them they sincerely thanked her for the food and began to eat. He took his time as he savored each bite of the delicious meal.

As Asahi happily ate his food he had accidentally let some of his chakra flow out and engulf the room, once more wrapping all who were in the room in a warm blanket of chakra that reflected the content blond’s mood.

Notes:

Anyway hope you found it somewhat enjoyable! :D (Srry if it turned out trashy especially the beginning. I’ve have been experiencing some minor(?) burn out :P)

Chapter Text

Sorry that this isn’t a chapter for those who were hoping it was but I did want to tell you guys that I’m going to be taking a break off this work because of the lack of motivation I’ve been having. Sorry I didn’t make this update sooner :( but I thought I’d be able to power through one more chapter before going on this break turns out I couldn’t like I did with the last couple of chapters. Even if I did power through I feel like the chapter wouldn’t be the best and I really didn’t want that because then I’d want to rewrite it so I thought it would probably be for the best to just take this break. Again sorry for this unfortunate update :(

So in short this work will be going on a (no longer) short hiatus until I come back from my (long) little break :]

Notes:

During the break I’m going to be proofreading the previous chapters I’ve already made some minor changes to make the chapters more consistent with each other and fixed some mistakes (grammar, spelling, etc.)

I WON’T abandon this fic it’s just a little break I needed

Edit: Its been way more than 2 month and I'm sorry for that I just didn't expect life to become a train wreck and my motivation to abandon me mid writing session TuT (I FINALLY started editing chapters like I said I would now that things have calmed down so once I'm done with that there will be a new chapter :>)
