Work Text:

Megumi has been an expert at hiding his feelings since he was a child. When he first found out Gojo would be taking care of him and his sister, he acted like he didn't care. While there was a small fraction of him that really didn't care, he and his sister were doing just fine on their own, the rest of him was relieved. He didn't have to live life on high alert at all times anymore. He could allow himself to relax, although even after being taken under Gojo's care, he still rarely relaxed.

When he found out Itadori had died, he put up a face that wasn’t affected by his death. But like usual, that was false. The person who saved his life without even knowing him had just died. A part of him felt like it was his fault he died. But all the emotional turmoil was for nothing when he watched Gojo reveal a very alive Itadori in a box.

The newest feeling Megumi was hiding was a new one to him. Romantic attraction. Megumi never thought he’d be at a point in his life where he found someone having food on their face cute. But there he sat, finding someone cute because they had food on their face, and of course, the messy eater that Megumi was so very head over heels for was the, still, very alive Itadori Yuuji.

Megumi had started feeling these things about Yuuji around two months ago. Kugisaki had dragged the two out to sit and watch the sunset because “it’s good for the mind and soul guys!” The three had sat down under a nearby tree with Megumi in the middle. He admits that the sky did look particularly nice and he did feel all of the day's worries and troubles washing away, he started to focus on something he found much more enticing. The boy to the left of him. The light was hitting his jaw in a way that made him look even more sculpted and his eyes. Oh, his eyes. Megumi could look at them forever. The way they were lit up by the sun made them glow. Megumi was thinking all these things and more when all of a sudden his thoughts came to a screeching halt.

Why on earth was he thinking such romantic things about his best friend? He had never before. It came out of nowhere. Megumi quickly looked away when he realized he had been staring for a weird amount of time. He had never had romantic feelings about anyone. He didn't mind that it was about a boy, he grew up with an annoying parental figure that got worse whenever his boyfriend was around. The concept of being gay wasn't new to him. But the concept of him being gay was. Well, the concept of romance involving him no matter the gender was new. Maybe the sunset was clearing his head a little too much, it started making things up. He decided it be best to ignore it. So he did. Until he couldn’t. Which was not long after.

“Fushiguro!” Megumi turned his head to the sound of his name to see Itadori waving his hand and running towards him. Megumi waved back.

“Fushiguro! Are you okay? One second I saw you and the next second you were gone!” Itadori asked with a look of worry.

“Oh. I'm alright something just pushed me down. I think I blacked out for a second.” Megumi replied. The three first years were sent out to deal with a large group of minor grade curses inhabiting an abandoned school. The task itself was easy, all three having no issue with it, but Megumi had let his guard down for just a moment and got knocked for an unknown amount of time.
“Are you okay?” Yuuji gasped as he asked again. He began poking and prodding at Megumi's face frantically.

“Itadori, I told you I'm fine.”

“Okay…” Yuuji said as he started to mess with pieces of Megumi's hair and pull on his cheek. Megumi knew Yuuji wasn't checking to see if he was okay anymore, he was just doing this to mess with Megumi now. But he had never been this close to Megumi's face before. he could see all the marks and little scars that adorned Yuuji’s face. And he could not get over how nice Yuuji's hands felt in his hair even as he tugged and pulled at it.

Megumi realized he was thinking overly romantic things about his friend again. The first instance was not even 24 hours ago. He was starting to have a slight crisis over this, but this was a crisis that could be ignored right?

Wrong.

Two months have gone by and moments like these continued to happen and Megumi continues to think very romantic and intimate things about his friend. Megumi had come to terms with the fact that he may in fact have a crush on Yuuji. but it's not like it was consuming his thoughts or anything.

Also wrong.

“Itadori wipe your face you have food all over it, you look like a slob,” Nobara said flatly.

“What? Where?” Yuuji said shocked.

“Your right cheek and your nose,” Megumi said, without looking up and Nobara definitely noticed.

“Oh, thanks,” Yuuji said slightly embarrassed.

Nobara and Megumi were on kitchen cleaning duty after dinner which was always an experience for Megumi because he was always confronted with some accusation by Nobara that was almost always false, but this time she was right.

“Fushiguro.” Megumi looked up from the plate in the sink but kept his head down.

“Do you like Itadori?” Megumi's head snapped up.

“What. Wait, don't repeat that.” Nobara was sure she had an answer to her question from that response but she wanted to hear a little more. “So? do you?” she said, raising an eyebrow.

“Uh- no. I think he's a good friend. That's all.” Megumi could feel the heat rising to his cheeks.

“Really? Do you think I'm a good friend?”

“Well, yeah.”

“Then how come I don't catch you staring at me as much as you do with Itadori?”

“Um.”

“That's what thought. You totally like him.” Megumi was at a loss for words so he ducked his head down hoping Nobara couldn’t see his cheeks turning pink.

“I knew it. Are you going to tell him?” Megumi knew there was no point in fighting back so he decided, why not tell Nobara about his feelings.

“No. There's no way he likes me back and there's no way he likes guys.” Megumi said.
“What? First, I don't know for sure if he likes you, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. And second, what do you mean he totally likes guys. Did you not know?”

“What.” He does? Megumi has no idea how to deal with this newfound information.

“Yes! Did he not tell you? He's bi. He's pretty open about it.”

“Clearly not enough,” Megumi grumbled.

“Well, now you know. So go tell him you like him!”

“I can't just tell him I like him. Sure he likes guys but that doesn't mean he likes me.”

“Oh please, you're good looking, if he hasn't, he’ll come around eventually.” Nobara scoffed.

“Fine. then I'll wait.”
So he waited.
He waited a whole month until he was confronted by someone else about his feelings. And that someone was much worse than Nobara.

Gojo.

“Megumi!” Megumi recognized that voice. He recognized the tone. He knew something was up and it would not end up good for him. Turning around he sees Gojo waving at him to come over to him in his office and Megumi (reluctantly) walks over and takes the seat next to Gojo.

“Am I in trouble?” Megumi says flatly.

“Wow, not even a hello? Ouch.” Gojo says faking a shot to the chest.

“What do you need Gojo?” Megumi didn't have the energy for this, frankly he never did.

“I have a question for you and I want you to be serious about this,” Gojo said, mood shifting.
“Do you like Yuuji,” Gojo said sternly.

Oh God was he really that obvious that even Gojo was noticing it? Megumi wasn't sure if he should give up right away and admit to his feelings and have to deal with Gojo's constant questions and unnecessary comments. Or does he deny it? no, no way that'll work. Gojo will just continue to bother Megumi about it until Megumi loses it. Or kills someone. Either is probable.

“…yes,” Megumi says with a defeated sigh.

“I knew it! Suguru said I was wrong but I had a feeling, I knew it!” Megumi rolled his eyes.
“How long have you liked him? Are you going to tell him? You know he's bi, right? Wait does that mean you're gay? Or bi? Wait! I shouldn't ask you that, that's personal.” Gojo frantically says it all comes out sounding like one sentence. But Megumi heard every word he said.

“I've liked him for 3 months now. No, I don't really plan on telling him. Yes, I know he's bi, Kugisaki told me. And yes I'm pretty sure I'm gay.”

“Oh wow, I did not think you would answer any of those questions,” Gojo says genuinely shocked. Usually, Megumi ignores him and his incessant questions.

“Well, I sort of want to get this over with so,”

“Okay. Serious talk now.” Gojo's mood shifts once again. “I really think you should tell him. I and many others are very sure he likes you. A lot. And even if he doesn't, I don't want you missing your chance to at least tell him. I almost missed my chance to tell Suguru how I felt and I'm so glad I told him because look at us now. Happier than ever. So I know this is too cheesy for you, but I want you to be happy, with someone who makes you happy. Okay, serious talk over.”

“Oh. Wow. Thanks, I guess.” Megumi was quite surprised by how sincere Gojo was being. “Maybe I will tell him.”

“Attaboy,” Gojo says patting Megumi on the back.

“Even if I do, how do I do it? Besides, you know I'm not good at talking about my feelings.” Megumi mumbles the last part but Gojo still hears it.

“Sit him down and be honest. That's what I did and it worked. He might be a little freaked out but just don’t beat around the bush. Be honest and upfront. Which I know you can do. Okay, serious talk is really over.”

“Okay… I'll think about it.”

“Good. Hurry up with it though. We’re tired of seeing you make heart eyes at Yuuji.” Gojo says getting up from his seat.

“What? I don't do that. God. Bye.” Megumi says scoffing while getting up to leave.

“Good luck Megumi,” Gojo says with a sing-song tone.

One thing about Megumi is that he tends to procrastinate. Especially when it came to large, daunting tasks. He admits he's gotten better over the years but some things freaked him out enough to avoid for long amounts of time. Long amounts of time like two and a half months. That's how long it took for Megumi to finally pull himself together and tell Itadori his feelings. Megumi had texted Itadori to meet him at their usual spot where they liked to talk about anything and everything, although usually accompanied by Kugisaki, at 5.

4:45 rolled around and Megumi started to panic. Worst-case scenarios were replaying in his head, he started overthinking everything he wanted to say, and he felt like he might as well die. Why was he thinking like this? He's never been like this ever! Granted this is the first time he's going through these feelings, but still. 4:55 and he started to calm down as he started to walk to the bench he asked Itadori to meet at. As he sat and waited he had to stop his leg from nervously bouncing multiple times and his hand to stop pulling at the fabric of his clothes.

“Fushiguro!” Megumi's head snapped up. To late to back out now.

“Itadori. Hi,” He said with a small wave.

“Y’know before we start talking about what you wanted to talk about, I just wanted to say you don't have to keep calling me Itadori anymore. We’ve known each other long enough and we trust each loads. So start calling me Yuuji.”

“Oh. Okay, yeah I can do that… Yuuji.” Megumi liked the way his name sounded in his voice. “You can start calling me Megumi if you like,” he says nervously.

“Cool! Megumi!” Oh, he likes the sound of his name coming out of Yuuji's mouth. “So! What did you want to talk about?” Yuuji said with a curious look and a gentle smile that Megumi could just melt at.

“Um. Well, I understand if you don't feel the same, but I want to just get it off my chest.” Megumi says with a deep breath, trying (but failing) to calm his nerves.

“Oh my god are you dying?” Yuuji gasped.

“What? No! I'm fine!” Megumi was quickly snapped out of his nervous trance.

“Oh okay. Sorry. continue.” Yuuji chuckled with a sheepish look.

“Okay. Right um-“ Megumi started to rub his hand on his legs nervously. He could tell Yuuji looked concerned even without looking at him. God, why was he so nervous?
Megumi took a shaky breath in- “I like you” -and exhaled a shaky breath out.

He froze.

“What? Oh. Wait. You do?” Yuuji said ranging from confusion, disbelief, confusion again, then excitement.

“Yes,” Megumi replied meekly.

“Oh my god! This is amazing!” Yuuji jumped up out of his seat unable to contain his excitement.

“Huh? What? Why?” Poor Megumi was in a state of shock.

“Well duh! Because I like you! A ton! And I was so worried you didn’t like me back.” Yuuji said with a smile.

“What? Why wouldn't I like you back?” Megumi said standing up to face Yuuji. “What's not to like,” Megumi said shyly, feeling the blush creeping up to his face. He could see the blush forming on Yuuji's face.

“I dunno! ‘cuz I'm an overthinker?” He says with a small laugh. “Ha, me too. Don't worry” Megumi smiles.

“Wait.” Mood shifting to uncharacteristically serious on Yuuji's face.

“…what.”

“Can I kiss you?”

“Huh.”

Great going Megumi. Thumbs up.

“Can I kiss you,” Yuuji repeated. Megumi slowly started to nod his head. He felt like such an idiot. But hey, he was happy.
“Uh-huh.” Was all Megumi managed to get out.

Megumi never understood when he read books and a character described their first kiss as “magical” or “life-changing” and he doesn’t think he’ll ever understand. But he came damn close to getting it. Because he blinked and Yuuji's lips were on his and God it felt nice. Megumi didn't know what to do but close his eyes. So he did. He felt Yuuji's hands reach up to hold Megumi's face and Megumi couldn’t get enough. However, he didn't really know what to do with his hands as they hung awkwardly by his sides. Yuuji slowly pulled away but kept his hands on Megumi's face as their eyes fluttered open. They looked into each other’s eyes with so much adoration and fondness for what seemed like forever. But it didn't feel awkward to either boy.

It felt right. So right.

Megumi realized he needed to kiss Yuuji again, so he brought his hands up to Yuuji's face and pulled him in. The kiss was more desperate than the first. Yuuji's hand began to travel to the back of Megumi's head, running his fingers through his hair and Megumi moved his arms so they were draped on Yuuji's shoulders. All while keeping their lips connected. Was it the world's best second kiss? No not at all. But neither boy cared. All they cared about was each other.

They eventually and reluctantly pulled away. Both were slightly out of breath and staring into each other's eyes with so much affection for each other they could cry.

“I really like kissing you,” Yuuji said breaking the silence.

“Me too,” Megumi said. He was still in disbelief at everything that happened. But God he was so happy. So incredibly happy.

“So are like, my boyfriend now?” Yuuji asked shyly, voice slightly above a whisper.

“Well duh.”

“Fushiguro.” He turned around at the sound of his name to see Geto walking towards him.

“Geto. Hi. What's up.”

“So I can see you told Yuuji about your feelings for him.” Geto was never one to beat around the bush.

“What.”

“I saw you kissing him,” he replied with a sly grin.

“Oh my god. Do not tell Gojo.”

“Oh don't worry I won't. But he’ll find out eventually. He knows you better than you think.” Geto said laughing.

“How do you even know I like him?”

“Oh please Gojo tells me everything. You know him he can't keep his mouth shut. Especially when it comes to romance. And especially when it comes to you.” Geto said reminiscing back when Gojo told him about him and Megumi's little talk.

“God yeah. Well, don't tell him. At least not yet. I don't really want to deal with his comments or invasive questions.” Megumi said shaking his head.

“I know. Just be smart.” Geto said with a small laugh before patting Megumi's shoulder. “Always,” Megumi replied as Geto turned away to leave.

“Oh, Megumi hey! I was looking for you!” Yuuji called out. Megumi turned around to see Yuuji practically bouncing towards him.

“Hi, Yuuji,” Megumi said with a soft smile pressing a kiss to Yuuji's cheek.

“Did you need something from me?” “No not really. I just wanted to see you.” Yuuji said smiling. He leaned forward to press a gentle kiss to Megumi's lips. Something that Megumi might never get used to.

Megumi may be an expert on hiding his feelings but he learnt he couldn't hide his feelings about one thing.

Yuuji.
