Chapter Text
Nurse Millie couldn’t believe the day she was having. First Raphael was brought in by one of the cafeteria staff. She was confused to see him covered in meat from the sloppy joes that would be for lunch that day and carrying a large block of ice, but noticing that his tongue was stuck to the ice definitely did not help her confusion. Of course, next was Donatello and Michelangelo, and what caused their conditions wasn’t any more obvious. Michelangelo’s stood out the most at first, the tiny cuts all over him just screaming for some antiseptic. However, it wasn’t until he coughed that she realized he must have inhaled some of an art project or something, because a huge cloud of glitter flew from his mouth. Of course, it would be hard to help Michelangelo much while Donatello’s hand wouldn’t seem to detach from his younger brother’s head. However, when the turtle in purple tried to say something about it, all that came out was a strange squeak. Now, she was closing the door behind Leonardo, who seemed completely out of it and kept going on about some girl named Rosaline. To top it all off, she had no clue how she was going to get the pencil out of his nose.
“How in the world did you all get into this mess?” the nurse asked, sighing.
After being greeted with unintelligible ranting from the four of them, all trying to talk over each other, she clapped her hands together to get them to stop. “Okay, okay. Let’s do this in order, alright? Raphael, can you go first?”
“I guess. Most of it was Mikey’s fault-”
“Hey! Not cool, man.”
“Shut up, I’m trying to tell my side!”
Notes:
Thanks so much for reading! After I posted the principal office fic, I had the idea to create a series out of it, and I had so much fun writing it that I just couldn't pass it up. Let me know what you think, and if you'd be interested in the first official chapter! We're starting off with Raph again out of pure coincidence, and I honestly cannot wait.
Chapter 2: Raphael
Summary:
Raphael and Casey Jones start their successful careers as criminal masterminds. Well, they would be successful if it weren't for that one movie reference.
Notes:
Hey! Sorry it took so long to get this chapter out, I have not had the time/motivation to work on it lately, but I finally did it! I did originally want to do more with this one, but that's how I feel about all of the ones I write, so I guess this will have to do. Let me know if you want to see more of this duo in future stories though, because I absolutely love them. Just a heads up, these chapters will probably be a little less connected than the Principal's Office ones, but I really love this series, and I hope you enjoy the chapter!
Chapter Text
The bell rang, signifying the beginning of Raphael’s favorite class: lunch. He got right in line to purchase his food, the taste of the school’s famous sugar cookies taunting him from right past the tips of his fingertips. He went through the line, cringing as he watched the large scoop of sloppy joe meat(?) plop onto his sandwich, then finally grabbed a cookie and headed to buy his food, getting in line right behind his youngest brother.
“What do you MEAN I’m out of money!?” Mikey asked, setting down his tray piled with mac and cheese.
“I mean you’re out of money, what don’t you get?”
Just then, Mikey managed to catch Raphael’s eye and spun around. “Raph, bro, buddy, could I PLEASE use your account. Just this once?”
Raphael rolled his eyes. “You say that as if you haven’t asked me ten million times.”
“Okay, but this time I really NEED it! It’s for an art project!”
“First of all, you should have thought about that before buying all those treats and chips yesterday. Second, what would you even use that for?”
“We’ve used macaroni for projects tons of times! You can still use it after it’s cooked, right?”
“If I let you use my money, will you leave me alone?”
“Ye-”
“AND let me use yours once it gets refilled?”
“Fine.”
“Okay then. You owe me.”
“Yay!” Mikey exclaimed as he quickly entered the six digit code he had somehow memorized. Funny, Raph thought, that the youngest of the four could remember each of his brothers’ lunch codes, but not his multiplication tables. “Thanks, Raph!” Michelangelo yelled as he sped off and out of the lunchroom with the macaroni. Raphael stepped up to the register and put in his number, then waited for the lunch lady to clear him to go.
“Sorry, kid,” she said instead. “You don’t have enough left for the cookie.”
“What!? I did right before MIKEY stole all of it!”
The lunch lady shrugged. “Nothing I can do about it. You’ll just have to get it tomorrow.”
“Fine!” Raph agreed, putting the cookie back and storming off. He spotted Casey sitting at the table the two of them normally sat at and slammed his tray down. “This is unbelievable!”
“Oh sh*t, what happened this time?”
“Mikey just HAD to go and take the last of my lunch money for macaroni he wasn’t even gonna eat! And now I can’t even get a cookie! It’s ridiculous!”
“Why don’t you just- I don’t know- take one anyway?”
“What? I can’t do that.”
“Why not?”
Because-” Raphael cut himself off. He really couldn’t think of a reason. Sure, it was probably wrong to steal from the school, but at the same time, would they even notice if one little cookie went missing? “How would we even do that?”
“Way ahead of you,” Casey said, holding up a small key.
“Where did you get that!”
“Grabbed it off of the janitor last period for… personal business.”
Raph put his hands on Casey’s shoulders and looked him directly in the eyes for a moment, before whispering, “You scare me, Jones.”
Casey laughed. “Yeah, I tend to have that effect on people.”
Just as the two stood up to head to the kitchen, someone knocked into them. “Raph, I forgot my teeth at home!”
“Wha-” Raphael whipped his head around to see Leo standing behind him and sighed. “They’re in your mouth, stupid. Didn’t Donnie tell you it was a bad idea to come to school after a MAJOR DENTAL PROCEDURE?”
“But April is the sun and can’t remember her wisdom teeth!”
“You’re making no sense right now.”
“Remember the kid that licked the lamppost in that Christmas movie? Did he back down? I think not! Good day to you sir!” Leo, despite his words, did not walk away.
“Yeah…” Casey said awkwardly. “Well, good luck with your- uh- lamppost. Me and Raph have some business to attend to.”
“Aye,” Leo said lazily, before walking out of the cafeteria and down the hall.
“That was… definitely a conversation. I think.”
“Sorry about him,” Raphael said as the bell rang and the two headed to the back of the lunchroom. “He got his wisdom teeth out today and INSISTED on coming to school for some dumb project.”
“Of course he did,” Casey said with an eyeroll, jiggling the key around in the lock before pushing the door open with ease. “After you.”
“You’re a dork,” Raph told him as he walked through the door and into the most beautiful room he had seen in his life. Angels sung as he took in the space before him, littered with chips and sodas and frozen pizzas and every industrial cooking appliance imaginable. He was starting to wonder why the school’s food was so bad, especially compared to what his youngest brother could cook up with a state of the art kitchen like this. “It’s beautiful,” Raphael joked, fake-wiping away a tear.
“Oh yeah,” Casey said sarcastically, “I’M the dork.”
“Hey, frozen pizza is no joke.”
Casey laughed as he held his hands up in mock surrender. “Whatever, let’s just look for those cookies.”
“Right! Yeah, they shouldn’t be too hard to find.”
“Where to first?”
“Uh… maybe in this thingy?” Raph asked, opening up a big metal box to reveal a cold, ice-filled wasteland.
“That’s a freezer.”
“Yeah, I got that now, thanks.”
“Wonder how cold that ice is.”
“Probably not very. It’s still the school’s kitchen.”
“Are you kidding? It’s practically smoking. …With coldness.”
“Yeah, okay.”
Suddenly, an idea popped into Casey’s head. “If you’re so sure, I triple-dog-dare you to lick it,” he joked, referencing the movie Leonardo had mentioned earlier.
Raph shrugged. “Okay.”
“Wait-” Before Casey could stop him, Raphael licked a giant block of ice sitting in the freezer. He went to pull away, but found that he couldn’t.
“Uh… Ca-ey?” he asked, slightly panicked.
“No…”
“Ueah.”
Casey erupted with laughter.
“I- noh fuhey!”
“Alright alright, stay there. I’ll go try and find some warm water.” Casey turned the corner in search of the sink, and despite his orders, Raph began trying to unstick himself from the ice. He pulled away with as much force as he could, his tongue aching, before the ice snapped and he went flying backwards with a loud clash into the bowl of sloppy joe meat sitting on the counter.
Just then, one of the cafeteria staff members came rushing over to see what all of the commotion was about. “Hey! What’s going on here!”
“Uh…”
“And you kinda know the rest from there,” Raph said in the nurse’s office, his now bandaged tongue causing his words to slur.
Nurse Millie sighed. “I can’t really say I’m surprised, just a little… yeah no, I change my mind, I am surprised.”
Mikey laughed. “If THAT surprises you, just wait until you hear about the day me and Donnie had!”
“Aye,” Leo said from where he was laying down, an icepack held to his mouth.
“No, he’s right,” Donatello said, his voice layered with quiet squeaking and receiving even more confused stares from everyone. “It’s Donnie and I.”
“Um, no it isn’t, because I’m Mikey and you’re Donnie.” Donatello opened his mouth to respond, only to be cut off by his brother in orange. “Can you just let me tell the story, squeaky? Thank you.”

Chapter Text
Michelangelo was… less than prepared for the project he would be working on today. Once he entered the classroom and saw his brother, Donnie, putting together what looked to be the actual Taj Mahal or something like that with toothpicks, he knew he had to step it up, and what better to use than macaroni? The only problem was that he didn’t bring any. So, he went to the cafeteria to buy some. Of course, he had to use his other brother’s lunch money, but he felt so prepared walking back to class with that bowl in his hands.
He got back to the classroom and went to the back of the classroom to feed the hamster their class had, Pigeon. It was his turn to take care of her this week, and it was his favorite thing ever. He would do it every week if he could. He scooped some food into her bowl, then took her water bowl over to the sink to fill it up. When he brought it back, he smiled when he saw her playing with the small, squeaking toy he had brought in for her when the class had first gotten her. He didn’t mean to brag, but he had always felt like he was her favorite, which made sense, given that Pigeon was HIS favorite.
Mikey waved at his cousin Mondo before going back to his seat and sat down, zoning out as the teacher explained the project rubric. One of his favorite things about this class was how many people he knew in it. There was Donnie, Mondo Gecko, and if you count the other periods, Leonardo was in the class right before him. At least, he would have been if he didn’t have his appointment earlier that day. At one point, Leo walked in and waited until the teacher was done talking, then the teacher handed him the work he had missed while he was at the dentist's office.
"Thanks, Ms. Calski," Mikey heard him say, his words slurring together. "I promise not to eat it this time." The teacher looked at him as though he had grown a second shell as he walked out, then let the class know they could get to work.
Mikey grabbed some cardboard and glitter from the front of the room and took it back to his desk. He thought about what he wanted to do for a long time, pretty much a whole five minutes, and even started setting up by dumping out some of the glitter onto scrap paper, before leaning back to talk to his brother who was at the desk behind him. “Hey Donnie, do you know exactly what we’re supposed to be doing?”
Donatello sighed. “We’re supposed to be building models of government buildings or historical sites?”
“Ohhhhhhhhhh. Does that mean I won’t need the macaroni?”
“What? No! Why would you? Is that COOKED?”
“Oh well, guess I’ll just eat it,” Mikey said, ignoring his brother’s questions. He didn’t need to explain himself. “I’m gonna build Kevin McCallister’s house!”
“I don’t think that really- nevermind.”
Michelangelo got to work, quickly putting together the basic structure of the house with determination and basically ten gallons of glue. “Hey, Donnie!” he said, going over to his brother’s desk. “I finished the outside! How does it look?” He handed the house to Donnie, who took it with a strange look on his face.
“Stickey,” he answered. “I don’t think I’m gonna be able to use this hand for the rest of the period. How much glue did you use on this?”
“A lot. Now for the inside!” The booby traps inside took a little longer to add, but with about ten minutes left in the period, he managed to finish. The only problem was that he had no way to test them. Unless…
Michelangelo ran to the back of the room where Pigeon was. He opened her cage and picked up the small hamster, bringing her and one of her toys over to the cardboard house he had made. “Okay, Pigeon. Get in there.” However, instead of going to set off any of the traps, she just stayed put by the doorway, squeaking her toy in her mouth. “Come on, just do something!” He tried nudging Pigeon towards the traps, but she still didn’t budge. Mikey sighed. “I need some mac and cheese.”
Mikey picked up the bowl and lifted it to his mouth, only to be stopped by someone screaming, “Dudes, drop EVERYTHING!”
Michelangelo dropped the bowl of macaroni on instinct and looked up to see Mondo Gecko walking over to the table. “Oh hey, what’s up?”
“Bro! What in the world is the shiny sun dust on your desk?”
“Huh?” Mikey looked down at his desk, seeing the golden glitter he had poured out. “Oh, it’s just glitter! It’s super cool.” Mikey looked back up at Mondo to see him slowly leaning in to look closer. And closer. And closer. “Uh… you probably don’t wanna-”
“AAAAAAAAAAHH!” Mondo Gecko screamed as his eyeball was coated in glitter. “THE SUN DUST HAS BETRAYED ME!”
“Why would you do-” Mikey began to ask, only to be cut off when Mondo threw the paper up off of the desk in his direction as he ran to the sink, Mikey breathing in the cloud of glitter that flew up into his face.
“So yeah. Uh- that’s pretty much it.”
“It is NOT!” Donatello argued.
“Pretty sure it is,” Mikey said nervously.
“Really? Why don’t you tell her about the part where you-” Donnie’s words got stuck in his throat, being replaced by a strangled squeaking.
Nurse Millie sighed, knowing this was going to be a long day for all of them. “Alright, Donatello. I suppose it’s your turn then. If you’re able to of course.” She really hoped she wouldn’t have to send him to an actual hospital, it was hard to tell what was wrong with the purple turtle.
“Perfect,” Donnie said after recovering from his… squeaking fit? “Here’s what happened.”
Notes:
Thank you so much for reading! I'm gonna be honest, it took me a while to get through this chapter, but honestly I think it was worth it. It's a little short, I had to keep adding bits to reach the minimum word requirement I try to set for each chapter, but I think it ended up making it so much better. Sorry for how long it took to get it out. Next up is Donnie! Thank you so much for all the comments you guys have been leaving, I LOVE reading all of them!
Chapter 4: Donatello
Summary:
Donnie's turn to tell his side! To quote Raphael, most of it was Mikey's fault.

Chapter Text
Donatello liked history class. He wasn’t really sure why. Maybe it was because he had been too isolated to know any real history his whole life. Or maybe because he could relate it back to his favorite animes sometimes. Maybe it was just because it gave him an understanding of how the society he was suddenly dropped into, even if it was only a simple explanation of the legal aspect of it.
Donatello was also GOOD at history class. Of course, he was good at all of his classes, so this one really wasn’t much different in that regard. This week, they were working on creating models of historical buildings from the United States, and Donatello decided to do the Capitol Building. Sometimes he wondered what these buildings looked like from the inside. Or at all, really, since he had never seen any of them in person. He did, however, see the Capitol Building WAY more than necessary through photographs, but that was to be expected when recreating a near perfect scale model of it using toothpicks.
He spends a while improving his model, really only using today to add the finishing touches, before he hears his younger brother ask him something. “Hey Donnie, do you know exactly what we’re supposed to be doing?”
Donatello rolled his eyes before explaining. His brother seriously needed to pay more attention in class, and where did the macaroni come from!? Was he seriously planning on using COOKED macaroni for his project!?
Just Donnie was placing the final toothpick piece, his phone dinged, startling him into messing up a whole chunk of his model. “Darn it.” He checked his phone to see that Casey had texted him on Datwire.

HokeyGoat_McDodd117: whats the likelihood i guess the right key?
Donnie looked at the image Casey had sent. A key ring with nine keys on it, labeled “Property of Eastman High School.”
TechGeeKStan: How did you get that??
TechGeeKStan: And what are you gonna DO with it??
HocketGoat_McDodd117: again unimportant
HockeyGoat_McDodd117: can u figure it out?
Donatello sighed.
TechGeeKStan: It’s just 1/9??
TechGeeKStan: About 11%??
HockeyGoat_McDodd117: i feel so stupid now
HockeyGoat_McDodd117: thx
[HockeyGoat_McDodd117 is offline]
Donatello laughed quietly as he set his phone back, then he got back to work, fixing the section he had messed up before. He had just about finished, and was just adding the same final piece again, when his phone dinged and he did the same thing once more. “Oh come on!” he whisper-yelled.
UrarakaOnlyAJournalist: help.
UrarakaOnlyAJournalist: leo is driving me INSANE.
TechGeeKStan: I’m a little busy
TechGeeKStan: What’s going on?

“That was weird,” Donnie whispered to himself before going back to work. Once again, he was adding the final piece, almost done, so close to the finish line, when Mikey interrupted him.
“Hey, Donnie!” There goes that chunk of his work. Again. “I finished the outside! How does it look?”
Donatello took the house from him and held it for a moment before answering, “Sticky. I don’t think I’m gonna be able to use this hand for the rest of the period.” Only a small annoyance. He was almost done, he’d wash his hands after he finished. “How much glue did you use on this?”
“A lot. Now for the inside!” Donnie watched as Mikey turned back around to his desk before turning back to his own project. Finally, FINALLY he just had one last piece left again. He added the glue, reached towards the project, then added the last-
“Dudes, drop EVERYTHING!”
Donatello barely kept himself from screaming as he once again destroyed the same piece of his model. Time to start again. However, before he could continue, he looked up at the screaming he heard to see the chaos going on at Mikey’s desk. He really tried not to laugh, but to be fair Mondo should have seen it coming. He did laugh when Mikey started coughing up glitter. Mondo came back over to dramatically flop across Mikey’s desk, and Michelangelo picked up the cardboard house to move it out of the way. He stepped back. Then slipped on the macaroni he had dropped on the floor.
Donnie hadn’t stopped laughing. Maybe there was a lesson to be learned there, as that was why the squeaky toy managed to lodge itself in his throat. He spluttered and coughed for a bit, his breathing blocked for a moment. Then he was able to breathe around it, but it was still in his throat, which would most likely be a MAJOR problem. When his younger brother started screaming, Donatello looked over at him.
“PIDGEON, NO! NO BITING! OW!” If Donatello could have laughed, he definitely would have with absolutely no reservations. Instead, he went over to where Mikey was and gently grabbed Pidgeon and brought her back to her cage, locking the door in place. When he went back over to Mikey, he was talking to Mrs. Calski.
“No, I still need more time to work on my project!” He said, before pausing for a bit to cough up more glitter. “We don’t need to see the nurse. Right, Donnie?”
Donatello opened his mouth to answer, that right, they didn’t need to, because maybe there was still that one bit of his project that still needed fixed, but all that came out was a strangled squeak.
“I’ll give you two an extension, okay? How does that sound?”
Mikey sighed. “Okay. Come on, Donnie. She’s right, you sound even more squeaky than normal.”
Donnie rolled his eyes, but followed Mikey out of the room anyway.
“Hey, thanks for grabbing Pigeon by the way,” Mikey said after a few moments of walking down the hall in silence. “I didn’t know she could be so scary. To be fair though, I guess she was probably more scared then I was. Anyway, how far is the nurse’s office again? Have we been yet? I don’t think we’ve been yet. At least, I haven’t been yet, I don’t know about you. Have y-”
Donnie heard something, and cut Mikey off by holding his hand up.
“What is it?”
Donnie got his phone out and opened up Datwire.
TechGeeKStan: Take Leo back to class.
HockeyGoat_McDodd: u cant stop us 😈
[HockeyGoat_McDodd is offline]
Donnie put his hand down and continued walking.
“Okay…?”
“And THAT is pretty much it.”
“Well,” Nurse Millie said, “That was certainly… an adventure.” Between the Sunday Day incident and this, she was starting to think Michelangelo would be a bit of an issue for her.
Suddenly, the door burst open to reveal Casey and April. “Yes!” Casey said. “Got it!”
“Leo!” April yelled, running into the room. “Are you CRAZY!? Where- Oh, hi Ms. Millie.”
Nurse Millie sighed. “Hello April, Casey. Perfect timing actually, we were just getting to Leo’s part of the story. Perhaps you two could enlighten us?”
“Oh. Sure,” April said, before starting off.
Notes:
Thanks so much for reading! I struggled a bit figuring this one out since there's so much overlap with the last chapter, but once I did figure it out it was so much fun, and this one might actually be my favorite so far. I can't believe there's only one left! I cannot wait for that one, stay tuned!
Chapter 5: Leonardo

“It’s as if all you do is make trouble for the rest of the staff at this establishment,” Principle Johnson chastised in his office as Casey glanced at the clock every so often. “You took this much further than usual; theft is a serious crime, Jones. Not only that, but your friend could have gotten seriously injured! Are you willing to pay his hospital bills if something bad happens?”

“He was fine,” Casey groaned. Time almost seemed to move slower whenever he was in this office. He didn’t have the patience for this while Raphael was alone in the nurse’s office. He needed to find a way to sneak in.

“You have to consider the consequences, Jones. This tendency you have to seek out trouble is like… a docked boat. It’s fine if you keep it tied to the dock, you could even have fun and take it out from time to time, but school is no place for a boat. If you continue to sail it into rough waters-”

“Will you PLEASE stop clicking that pen!”
Casey paused for a moment, then let go of the top of the pen, causing it to spring up and click one last time.
Before Principal Johnson could strangle Casey, the intercom in his office buzzed and the voice of the school secretary spoke up. “Dave? The superintendent is here to meet with you.”
The principal sighed and stood up. “Don’t go anywhere, Jones,” he said as he opened up the door to his office. “I’ve got my eye on you.” With that, he was gone.
Casey messed with his pen for a few minutes, getting it to play back the pieces of the conversation he had recorded on it.
“You- are- a- boat,” Johnson’s voice stated as Casey cut out certain sections. Casey laughed and tried more combinations. “All- staff- pay- will be- docked.” He laughed again and saved the change. “Time- to- seek out trouble.”
“Sounds good to me,” Casey said, jumping up from the chair set up across from where the principal normally sat. He creaked open the door to the office and snuck out into the hall, looking around to make sure the coast was clear. Once he was sure it was safe, Casey dashed down the hall towards the cafeteria, bumping into Leonardo on the way. “Uh… Leo?”
“Casey!” he yelled, looking much too relieved to see him. “We need to kill the moon!”
“Um… what?”
“She’s envious!”
“Okay… what’s your next class?”
“What’s in a name? That which we call a class by any other name shall smell like feet.”
“Um… okay…?” Casey replied, hoping he could figure out where to take Leo later. “Hey, you wanna help me with something?”
“No, I need to find my teeth, sorry.”
“Come on, it’ll be fun!” Casey grabbed Leo by the wrist and dragged him towards the cafeteria. He unlocked the door to the kitchen just like earlier, began searching the room, and told Leo, “Okay, let me know if you see a-”
“Cookies!” Leo called from around the corner.
“Wha- how did you- wait, yeah, that’s what I…” Casey decided just to go see whether Leo had actually managed to find where they keep the cookies, and lo and behold, there they were. A huge glass case stood against the wall, filled from bottom to top with cookies of all different kinds: chocolate cookies, cream filled cookies, funfetti cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, and of course, the school’s classic cakey sugar cookies.
But of course, the case was locked.
He got out his ring of untested keys and groaned at how many possibilities there were. He didn’t know how long this would take, and Leo needed to get to class soon. So, he got out his phone and sent Donatello a message on Datwire.

“Sit tight, Leo. This might be a while.”
Casey had to try every. Single. Key. The first one was too small, the second one was too big, the third one had too many jagged points, and it just kept going on like that until he got to the last two keys. Given his luck so far, Casey decided to skip one and go straight to the last one but guess what! That one didn’t work either! So finally, he tried the second to last key on the ring, and it fit perfectly in the keyhole. He twisted it in the lock, opened the case, and grabbed a sugar cookie with red frosting, making sure to put the key in a new specially labeled case in his pocket. As he pocketed the cookie, he turned back to Leo and-
Leo was gone.
“Great.”
Casey ran out the door and around the corner. Just as he was about to call out, he slammed into Leo at top speed. His case of labelled keys and ring of mystery keys fell out of his pocket, scattering all of them across the floor. “Darn it.”
“Ow,” Leo said weakly.
“Oh sh*t, are you okay?” Casey asked, getting up to give Leo a hand. “Where were you going?” he asked as he pulled Leo to his feet.
“Cheskire.”
“Huh? Oh. Oh!” Casey knew that name. That was the name of his first period English teacher. Which meant… “Oh no, your presentation!” He grabbed Leo’s arm again and started dashing towards room 47. 42, 43, 44, they were so close, Leo was going to make it! Just then, Casey felt Leo tug his hand away. He looked back and saw him veering off into room 46. “What are you-”
"Thanks, Ms. Calski. I promise not to eat it this time."
Leo exited calmly with a small stack of worksheets and Casey let out a sigh of relief. “Okay, now come ON before the bell rings!”
April O’Neil trusted Leonardo, which was impressive considering the walls she built after that whole puke girl incident. Even so, she still paced back and forth even after everyone else had already flooded into the English class she shared with him, watching the door anxiously for when he would arrive. She was already nervous enough about performing their act from Romeo and Juliet in front of the class without having to worry about whether her partner would be back from his dentist appointment in time or not. Luckily, she was pulled from her thoughts as Casey Jones led Leo into the room right as the bell rang, Leo holding the assignments from his last class.
“Leo!” she yelled, her voice a mix of relief and exasperation. “Hurry up, we need to practi- what is up with your mouth?”
Leo stared blankly at her for a moment, before slowly responding, “My teeth aren’t wise anymore.”
“What?”
Leo shrugged as Casey just laughed and headed to the back of the room.
“Okay… well, Mrs. Cheskire said we could have a few minutes to practice before we start the act,” she told him as they headed to the desk they shared. “So, starting from scene one, ‘The Capulet's party has ended,’ blah blah your line.” April looked at the turtle in blue expectantly, waiting for him to start with his part.
Leo slowly opened his mouth, and… put one of the sheets of homework inside of it.
April gazed at him in utter shock for a moment, before dropping her head onto the desk in front of her. “No no no, what were you thinking!? ‘Your teeth aren’t wise anymore.’ Did you seriously come to school after getting your wisdom teeth out just for this project! Why!?” She lifted her head up just in time to see Leo reach for another paper and promptly took the stack of work from him.
April sighed. “Okay. Think, April,” she said to herself. “Who can you go to in situations like this?” She looked over at Leonardo, who she would normally go to, who was holding his purple pencil up in front of his face, and a lightbulb lit up above her head.
The journalist in training whipped her phone out and pulled up Datwire, immediately shooting a message to Donatello.
UrarakaOnlyAJournalist: help.
UrarakaOnlyAJournalist: leo is driving me INSANE.
TechGeeKStan: I’m a little busy
TechGeeKStan: What’s going on?
UrarakaOnlyAJournalist: so leo just got here this period, right?
UrarakaOnlyAJournalist: tell my why this man thought it was a GOOD idea to perform shakespeare high.
April looked back up from her phone at Leo, only to see him slowly moving his pencil farther up his nose. She quickly sent Donatello one last message, and went to grab the pencil from the usually responsible turtle. “Leo!” she yelled. “You can’t-”
Before April could finish berating Leo, the teacher spoke up. “Are you two finished practicing?”
“I really don’t think it’s a good idea for us to perform today, actually,” April informed Ms. Cheshire nervously.
“Nonsense,” the teacher responded. “You two have had plenty of time to work on this project. Besides, changing your presentation date would ruin the whole schedule. It’s not as if I can switch you with act III. Come on. Front of the class.”
“Okay…” April hesitantly stood and guided Leo, who now had a pencil dangling from his right nostril, to the front of the room. She patiently waited for Leo to start the scene, only for him to stare blankly at her. She cleared her throat and prompted, “Can I go…”
“Can I go…” Leo began. “To the orchard! Where lies Rosaline in sleep no more.”
Okay, half of that wasn’t even the right play, this would not be good.
“Romeo!” April said in a deep voice. “My cousin Romeo!” She took a big step to her left and changed her voice to a more raspy one for Mercutio. “He is wise, on my life, hath stol-”
“But soft!” Leo yelled, interrupting.
“Not yet,” April whispered.
“What light is the moon when Juliet has murdered my son!?”
The class gasped as April face palmed.
“Good morrow, father.”
Okay, skipping around a bit much? “What early tongue so sweet saluteth me?” she responded, just going with it at this point. Or, trying to.
“With ROSALINE my ghostly father!? No. I hath forgot… my line.”
“Okay okay,” the Mrs. Cheskire FINALLY said. “That’s enough. What’s going on here.”
April explained, “I TRIED to tell you, we can’t do the scene today, Leo just had his wisdom teeth removed!”
“Oh. I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize-”
“I’ll take him to the nurse’s office, Mrs. Cheskire!” Casey proclaimed, standing up and strutting to the front of the room.
“Sit down, Cassian.”
“Come ON, he’s clearly in no condition to be in class.”
“And you want me to believe that you are going to take him out of the goodness of your heart?”
“Of course! It’s what friends do!” Casey threw an arm around Leo’s shoulders as if to prove his point, and Mrs. Cheshire sighed.
“Fine. Go ahead.”
Casey tried to open the door to the nurse’s office. It wouldn’t budge. “Darn it. Locked.” He pulled his mess of keys out of his pocket. “That’s… a lot more than one in nine. Think we can get it on the first try this time?” he asked Leo.
Leo shook his head. And of course, he was proven right. “You should’ve stuck with sailing.”
“Okay, buddy.” Casey tried another key, and it didn’t work. Then another, then another, then another. Then, footsteps echoed from down the hall, and Casey pulled Leo behind the trash can right outside the nurse’s office. “Shh,” he told Leo. he took out his pen and started fidgeting with it, when out of the corner of his eye, he saw Leo open his mouth. He quickly slapped a hand over his mouth, dropping the pen and making a small clattery noise as the plastic hit the linoleum.
The footsteps stopped. Casey’s phone buzzed in his pocket.
TechGeeKStan: Take Leo back to class.
Casey let out a sigh of relief and took his hand off of Leo’s face.
HockeyGoat_McDodd: u cant stop us 😈.
The door to the office opened and closed, and when Casey turned back to Leo… he was gone. Again. Of course.
There was a knock on the door, and Casey had a feeling it was Leo being let into the nurse’s office without him. So, when it closed again, he got back to work on trying to get that door unlocked. And when the bell rang, he was thankful to have April stop and help as she passed by.
“Well,” Nurse Millie said as the story finally ended. “That certainly explains a lot.”
“Are we in trouble?” Mikey asked hesitantly.
Nurse Millie sighed. “No, not with me at least. They don’t pay me to yell at kids, just to fix them up. I think we’re going to need a good solvent, some bandaids and antiseptic, warm water, paper towels, and sleep.”
“Sleep for Leo?” April asked.
“For me.”
She set to work, melting the ice Raphael was stuck to and giving him the chance to clean off in the bathroom, treating Michaelangelo’s cuts and getting his brother’s hand unstuck from his head, helping Donatello get the squeaky toy dislodged from his throat, and pulling the pencil out of Leonardo’s nose. Finally, when all was said and done, Raphael spoke up.
“Hey, Casey, did you ever end up picking up that pen you dropped?”
“Huh?” Casey asked. “Oh, right. I guess not.” He got up and went to the door, but when he opened it, there was a huge commotion outside.
School supplies were being thrown, teachers were stampeding, and over it all, one choppy message was being played over and over again in the voice of Principal Johnson.
“All- staff- pay- will be- docked.”
“Oh no,” Casey said, quickly ducking when a toothpick Capitol Building came flying into the room.
“MY PROJECT!”
