Work Text:

Sounds of screaming could be heard all around; people rushing into stores, alleys, anywhere to avoid being hit by the armies of none other then Lord Garmadon. His laughter could be heard for miles in the streets of Ninjago City. Sending shivers up everyone’s spines, children cried for their parents, elders pleaded with the deities to make the overload quit his rein of terror for just a little while longer. Store owners alike rushed people in safety, the wind master included. He whispered to the breeze around him, begging it to keep his store and occupants inside safe as he kept the doors opened and helped people inside.

The heavy footsteps of Garmadon’s mech echoed down the street, Morro could barely see the head of his mechanic robot trudge through the city. All the while his voice boomed over the place with a megaphone and shouting mocks to the ninja through it. Specifically the Green Ninja, who right now Morro could see fly in from the horizon. It wasn’t uncommon how quickly the heros were to come to aid of the city. The wind element watched as people ran, cheering for their heros as they stopped the attacking armies.

Morro was just about to enter the store to protect himself, when suddenly his eyes flashed over the other side of the street. Watching with horror as a young boy cried out in pain; his arms hitting the debris trapping his lower half. A distressed expression on in his face, his bright blue eyes and white curly hair making him stick out against the dark colored bricks currently holding him done. It was like he was snapped back to his dad’s training, jumping across pillars and learning how to harness his powers. Without a second to think, he dashed across the street. He used his hand to blast his record store’s door shut, locking them before sliding down on his knees to the kid.

“Hang on, kid! Hang on!” He shouted, blue eyes snapping too him with an inhuman speed. Immediately; his hands grasped onto Morro’s sleeve. Absolutely terrified; the wind master reluctantly pushed him off. Settling himself on his heels and looking for a good spot to lift. There was on directly next to the boy’s waist on the left side; moving over and tightening a grip around the debris. A groan leaving him as he pushed against the heavy bricks, eyeing the teen as he hurriedly pulled himself out of the fallen slab. Luckily, his legs weren’t crushed. It seemed the weight was just pressing down on him, but not so much to break it. Honestly, with the way it looked it would’ve broken any humans legs!

That was besides the point now, as the teen heaved. Hand gripping at his chest; the wind master letting the bricks fall onto the ground with a harsh thud. His put his hand up, creating a small shield of wind to protect from anymore flying objects being rained down. Whether it be blown up bits of a henchmen’s mech, or crabs. He silently prayed it wasn’t crabs.

“My..I need to leave!” The kid suddenly said; jumping to his feet. Though, Morro grabbed him, looking at him like he was crazy. He pulled him back down, settling his hands on both his shoulders. “Are you insane!? It’s not safe to be running about!”

“My friends—“

“Your friends will be fine, come on kid we gotta get out of the crossfire.”

“But—!”

He pulled the kid up by his forearms; dragging him over to a nearby alley where a few other civilians cowered inside. Huddled in the far back with their hands covering their heads. As much as the teen tried to escape his death grip, he wasn’t about to let some poor kid’s funeral be on his guilty conscious. That’s for sure. He sat the two of them down just away from the group, watching with a silent curse as mechs flew above. Even seeing a familiar blue jet zoom by as it blasted at Garmadon’s armies. He glanced back at the teen; who was shaking in his seat on the floor. Constantly checking his phone and refreshing it on the messages.

“It’s going to be fine.”

“You do not understand! I must go, I must!” The kid’s words, thought out and said in a way it was almost robotic caught Morro off guard; however, like he said earlier..he does not need another thing of guilt weighing him done. He grabbed the boy’s wrist, keeping him still. Shaking his head, hair flying with the movement as he stared at the other’s shocked expression.

“Hell no! You’re staying here till those Ninja fix this whole mess.”

“Sir—“

“It’s Morro.”

“Mr.Morro I..”

The wind master snorted at that, but let him continue. Eyes continuing to check the skies and the street, the wind telling him what was happening as it traveled amongst the buildings. It was like his second pair of eyes, a feeling in his gut irked at him; like it was trying to tell him to let the kid go. Though, he knew better then to listen to it. Whether or not these friend’s of this young stranger get hurt, he can make sure one doesn’t. First Master, if his dad saw him protecting this kid he would think he was possessed or something.

“I..fine. I shall stay.”

“Good.”

An awkward silence over came them, say for the sounds of shooting missiles and the echoing of Garmadon’s taunting laughter. He could distantly hear the Ninja all shout back. Something in his mind itched, like it was trying to make sense of their voices. It was familiar, too familiar for his liking. Yet, he couldn’t out his finger on it. His thoughts were cut off by the boy making a hissing sound, Morro glancing over too see him putting his hand up to his lips. Soothing what he assumed to be a small scrap.

“Let me see..” He offered, thankfully; the other didn’t hesitant. It wasn’t as bad as he would’ve assumed it was, but it was..

Wait.

It wasn’t bleeding.

That wasn’t skin.

Was that metal!?

“Oh—kay! Wow..uhm..” The wind elemental looked at those blues eyes, now filled with worry as he turned away. Like he was embarrassed of this discovery being found out..instead, Morro just took a deep breath in. Let it out in one blow, and reached into his pocket for some bandaids he keeps around.

“Robot kid..not the weirdest thing I’ve seen..whatever.” It really wasn’t.

“You are not..you are not afraid of me?” There was a hint of confusion in his tone, but the smallest amount of warmth as well.

“Oh—no! I definitely am, just more curious then ‘afraid.’” Morro responded flatly. Ripping the bandaid open and gently using his sleeve to wipe any debris dust off of his hand. Reasonably, he knew the kid didn’t need it. It wouldn’t get infected, at least not that he knows of..he doesn’t know a lot about androids. Mostly because it was a new technology made by the Borg Company, and he wasn’t all that big of a fan of that stuff. He placed the bandage over the metal, covering up the sliver that peaked through the boy’s skin. It was a little surreal in the moment, but nevertheless, Morro knew he’d just have to come to terms that yup; robot kids are real now!

“Most people run away when they find out. I am a very normal wild teen however.”

“And what should I call you, very normal wild teen?”

His hair bounced slightly as he jumped at the question, a little surprised by it, before smiling with all his perfect white teeth.

“Zane Julien.”

Morro ran a hand down his face; a laugh he doesn’t know where it came from leaving his lips as he shook his head in his hands. “A robot named Zane, a Garmadon Attack..any other crazy revelations I should be made aware of?” He joked, Zane blinked at him; chuckling. Now that the wind elemental knows he isn’t human, it was crazy too hear how real it sounded.

“You are taking this information well.” They noted.

“Meh.” He shrugged.

The teen glanced up, noticing a less amount of henchmen mechs flying by now. The wind master followed his gaze, the fighting sounds having cooled down to a whisper. Though, he could still hear it all very well as the breeze traveled the information back to him. He took a glance back at the civilians, who all began to make their way towards the exit of the alley. He lifted himself up from the floor; reaching a hand out and heaving the kid up. Who nodded thankfully at him, they didn’t move for several seconds. Not until everybody else had left, and the sounds of cheers entered their ears. Morro could almost laugh at the irony of it all, this day barely even started, and it’s already crazy!

“You won’t tell anybody, correct?”

“Trust me kid, no one would even believe me if I tried.”

Zane smiled, and Morro smiled back.

Notes:

Zane: You know, I'm starting to regret showing you how that blender works.
Morro: *drinking toast* Why do you say that?

——

To explain the tag for Zane having Autism, I always thought the way he was shown in the movie was..odd, and honestly I found myself (who has autism) relating a lot to it :) He doesn’t fit in, and tries to present himself as something that’s deemed “normal”, and so I like to HC he’s on the spectrum! Even though I know he acts like that because he’s a “robot”, but like..shut up let me project onto silly legos
