Masquerade Ball 2023

Summary:

True Love prevails at the Masquerade.

Work Text:

In Storybrooke, Maine; on Halloween night, they were hosting for the very first time, a Masquerade ball. Everyone in town was very excited to attend. Being that it’s a Masquerade, everyone is required to wear a mask and they are not supposed to know who is under the mask until they are ordered to reveal themselves at a certain time.

Emma Swan walked in wearing a silky red with sequined black sparkling dress with a red and black feathered mask. Her sequined dress resembled black diamonds. She paused and looked around to see if she could recognise anyone there. She spotted Henry so she walked to him with a feline grace and said, “boo!”

Henry jumped and turned around and smiled when he recognised her.”Ma!” His jaw dropped when he saw how beautiful his biological mother looked. He knew it was her as red was a very symbolic color for Emma.

Emma put her finger on her mouth and said,”Shh!! Not out loud.” as she glanced around her to make sure no one was paying attention to them.

“So is your mom here yet?” she asked Henry, looking forward to seeing what she’d chosen to wear.

Henry rolled his eyes and shook his head, ”No, she was trying to put her outfit together and she'd rather be fashionably late as usual.” He smirked.

Emma chuckled and nodded. “I better go and say hi to everyone.” With that, she walked to her parents of course dressed like the Charmings would have, when they ruled in the Enchanted Forest. They were too obvious.

Henry smirked and chuckled as he knew what his mom's plan was. She wanted to surprise everyone and she wanted to woo Emma Swan. Henry took his phone out and called his mom.

In the mansion, Regina was putting her shoes on when the phone rang. She answered and turned the speaker on so she could finish getting ready.”Yes, Henry?”

“Mom! Everyone is wondering where you are. And guess what! Emma did ask about you!"

Regina paused when Henry mentioned Emma and shook her head, ”Really, dear? Emma did?” A pleased smile came over her face.

She resumed getting ready and put her necklace and watch on before she walked to the closet to get her white mask.

“Yes mom! She did. I told her that you will be late. I gotta go! Please come soon.” Henry smirked again and hung up the phone.

“Henry, wait,” But it was too late, her son already hung up on her.

Regina sighed and looked at the mirror, she had on a long silky black dress and she looked at the white mask that she planned to wear. The mask looks like the feminine version of the one the Phantom of Opera wears. It had beautiful lines and markings that sparkled on the mask. Regina smiled and knew that the ball would be a success. She grabbed her purse, keys, mask, and her shawl to keep her warm, and left.

The music played as everyone mingled and danced along with the song.

Emma was sitting at the table chatting with Ruby who wore a wolf mask.

“So, do you see anyone you like?” Ruby asked Emma.

Emma shook her head and smiled. “You know the answer, so no.”

All of a sudden, the double doors opened and everyone went silent when they looked at the figure that entered the ball room.

A brunette walked in slowly with a half faced white mask and black silky dress and her brown eyes looked around and stopped when they landed on green eyes. She smiled, glad to see Emma there. She licked her lips saucily.

Emma locked her eyes with her mouth slightly opened as she tried to figure out what to do or say next.

“Oh my gosh, she's HOT!” Ruby smiled and nudged Emma, trying to break the spell the blonde was clearly under.

Emma glanced at Ruby and blushed.

“Oh yeah. She is.” Emma cleared her throat. Her eyes found Regina again. She licked her dry lips.

Regina smirked as she walked toward Emma and before she reached her, she was stopped by the Charmings.

“Regina!” Snow hugged her and stepped back. ”You look great! Doesn't she, David?” She nudged him to say something.

“Yes, you do.” David smiled and bowed at her.

The music started to play a different song and David smiled at his wife and took her hand, ”Dance with me?” He had a feeling Regina wanted to talk with his daughter.

Snow smiled widely and took his hand. ”I would like to.” With that they danced away from Regina.

Regina rolled her eyes and shook her head as she felt a hand on her elbow.

“Care to dance?”

Regina turned her head and saw Mal.

“Well well, Mal, you made it!” Regina tilted her head.

Mal smiled and kissed Regina’s cheek and took her hand, leading her to the dance floor and started to dance along with her. ”Yeah, Lily begged me to come. She wants me to make new friends.” Mal rolled her eyes.

“I think I would have to agree with her.” Regina nodded, looking around to find Emma as they danced.

“Mph! Whatever. But why are you here alone? I thought you were with Emma. You did catch her eye.” Mal winked at her and turned her head toward Emma who was glaring at them, jealousy written all over her face. ”You could go ask her to dance.”

Regina shook her head. ”No, I am the Queen. She should ask ME.”

Mel scoffed and took Regina’s hand and dragged her to where Emma was standing.

Emma was still glaring as they walked towards her.

“You love birds, you need to talk and DANCE. So ta-ta for now.” Mal winked and went to find another partner to dance with.

They both were quiet for a few moments. Emma was reeling with the unexpected turn of events. The jealousy disappeared as she quickly realized Mal was not interested in Regina that way.

“Do you want to dance with me, Regina?” Emma looked at her nervously and put out her hand.

Regina smiled and nodded. ”I would love to,” she took Emma's hand and they walked toward the dance floor.

Emma placed her right hand behind Regina’s back and her left hand on her shoulder. Emma smiled at Regina as she saw her getting relaxed. And they started to dance.

“So, I see you were jealous back there,” Regina smiled.

“Me? Nah!” Her green eyes glared at Regina. ”Are you with Mal, now?” She just wanted to make sure she knew where things stood with them.

Regina shook her head, "No, I am not, Miss Swan.”

Emma stood back and said, ”Then what the heck was it that I saw?” Even though Mal had encouraged Regina to dance with her, she’d kissed her.

Regina stood back and crossed her arms as she looked at Emma, ”what did you think you saw?”

“I saw Mal give you a kiss!” Emma exclaimed.

“It was a friendly kiss. It meant nothing,” Regina rolled her eyes.

“Then why did Mal act like she was with you?”

Regina sighed and took Emma's hand, leading her outside to talk with her privately. She didn’t want anyone to hear their conversation.

Once they were outside, Regina was still holding her hand and asked, “Emma, why are you making such a big deal out of it?”

Emma looked at Regina's hand, ”maybe because I'm jealous," she said softly.

Regina shook her head, ”there is more to it than that. Tell me now.”

While they were talking, they were unaware there were some people looking out the windows at them.

“I like you, I mean, like you more than a friend,” Emma said as she looked into Regina’s eyes and she took Regina's mask off and tossed it on the floor.

Regina gasped and pulled Emma close and took her mask off. "Emma Swan, don’t you know I am in love with you?” She kissed her lips tenderly.

Rainbow lights blasted out from them, surrounding the air and the town.

Emma and Regina stepped back and looked at each other stunned by what happened, ”what was that?!”

Before either of them answered, Henry came out toward them and hugged them tightly. ”I knew! I knew it!”

Regina shook her head. ”Henry, what are you talking about?”

“You and ma, are True Loves!!! You always were!!!” He beamed happily.

“It is true. I see the special bond you guys have together and we know that you belong together. We saw it when you guys kissed.” Snow smiled, ”I am so happy for you!”

David winked at Emma, ”way to go kid,”

Mal smiled, “we were trying to make you guys realize that you belong together.”

“Wait, you planned this all along?” Regina looked at them, wondering if they’d been set up. .

“Yes!” They said at the same time.

Emma smirked and shook her head, ”well, it worked.”

And Emma glanced at Regina and smiled as she grabbed Regina’s hand, ”I still do owe my Queen a dance or two.”

Regina smiled shyly and they walked hand to hand to the dance floor.

Snow, David, Mal and Henry watched them.

“So, who wants to bet that in 6 months, they will get married?” Henry asked as he smiled mischievously.

“HENRY!”

The end…..for now
