Work Text:

When Merlin confessed to being a sorcerer, the Round Table and King did not react expectedly.

Of course, with Lancelot's support, the confession came when they were on a mission. The only way out of a trap was to use magic, and use magic he did. Though, of course Arthur and the knights misconstrued the vastness of his capabilities.

.

When Merlin awoke to a very excited Gwaine and apologetic looking Lancelot standing over him, he was... confused, to say the very least.

And of course, after leading him through the castle, to the stables, and out into the forest, Merlin could confidently say he wanted nothing to do with what they were planning. Being met with the king, Sir Leon, Sir Elyan, and Sir Percival in a clearing really could do wonders for his muddled half-awake mind.

"Merlin! So glad you could finally join us!" Arthur spoke to him as though he were late. Merlin wore a bewildered look.

"It's the damn ass-crack of dawn, Arthur. What'r we doin' here?" Maybe they looked at him weird for his irish accent, but they kept their smiling faces all the same.

"Since you- actively- practice treason in my kingdom and seem to have little control over your... gift.. I humbly decided to enlist a few someones to help you better control your magic." Well, that surely woke Merlin up swiftly. At that moment, Arthur beckoned someone forward. Out stepped Alator and Iseldir (whom of which looked as though they would tear each other apart at varying levels).

Alator and Iseldir looked almost apologetic, and Merlin felt for them. No, scratch that. He didn't feel for the traitors at all.

"Arthur.." The king was beaming at him, as were the knights. They looked oh so incredibly proud of themselves. He straightened his posture, and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. "Thank you, Arthur, for getting me two masterful teachers of magic..." He was still in disbelief, Lancelot patting his arm gently to shake him from his shock.

He almost smiled reassuringly, but realized ever-so-noble Sir Lancelot was an accessory to this, and therefore just as guilty. Add him to the lot of backstabbing traitorous companions.

"I know its early, so I'm going to be giving you the mornings and nights off to train with the Catha and Druid Leader. I expect you to come back to serve during afternoons. They can discuss lessons with you." Merlin really needed to sit down. Didn't those two have anything better to do with their time? Maybe move out of Camelot's forests? Or go back to live with the rest of the high priests?

"Uhh, yeah. Thank you. I will, uhm, talk to them about lessons. Yes."

He was going to poison Arthur. King be damned.

"We'll be heading back, one of the knights will be staying with you while you're out." He immediately clutched Lancelot and marched him towards Alator and Iseldir.

"The rest of the castle must be waking now, you might want to hurry back, Arthur. You can tell George I am currently attending to a family matter or sick- just. Don't say I'm in the tavern." He gives off a defeated posture.

It takes a little while, but the knights and king are on the path back to Camelot's capital, and Merlin lets loose everything he had felt.

.

After a long scolding, and then the two teaching him things he WASN'T aware of, they let him rest comfortably in the mossy undergrowth. Lancelot sitting next to him softly chatting away.

"To be absolutely fair, I told the king that he should consult you first." Merlin smacked his arm. "Hey! At least I tried to discourage him. The king really set his heart on it, said that he didn't want you getting caught, so you could use some control."

Merlin couldn't fault him for that. Maybe he was less angry than before, now that he had time to cool off.

"I guess I have been getting too comfortable around them while using magic." He curled more up into the moss, and dragged Lancelot down with him so they were face to face.

"Keep in mind though, if he ever makes an executive decision like that without my knowing, you tell me straight away, rat." He tried to sound serious, but a leaf was caught in the knights hair.

They couldn't keep straight faces as they both started giggling like children and the sheer ridiculousness.

Of course, the actual full extent of Merlin's power wouldn't be necessary until a few weeks later, when they yet again end up in a storm fighting a battle, and Merlin accidentally strikes down half of the battalion with a wave of his hand, and commands the rain to stop.

Come to think of it, Arthur never brought up the subject of teachers again after that moment.
