My Hero Academia Reloaded

Chapter 38: Chapter 37

Notes:

Hello everyone, I'm really sorry for going quiet for the past month. A lot of things had happened that I never got the time to even open Ao3, let alone finish writing the chapter like I planned. But I've got Thanksgiving break now, so thankfully I finally have time to breathe and start catching up. I hope you enjoy this chapter, and happy holidays everyone!

Chapter Text

Deep inside a cave found on the Southernmost side of Aogashima Island, was a young man with silvery gray hair, bound in restraints and propped up against the limestone wall.

Soon, his eyes slowly blinked open, readjusting to the almost pitch black environment he was in.

“H-huh? Where am I? What happened?”

Spending so much time in an awkward position, his entire body from the neck down was numb to the cool stone and restraints binding his limbs together. Unknowing of this, he struggled to get up and look around, confused to find himself in, whatever predicament this was.

“Hello? Is anybody there? Can anybody hear me?”

Hearing his voice echo throughout the chamber, all he could do was let his mind wander, combing through his memories for any explanation. And in an instant, everything had come flooding back to him.

The Kaiyuu Maru Guesthouse.

Being forced to use his [Sleeping Gas] quirk on another set of innocent tourists.

Those tourists suddenly waking up and retaliating in an instant.

Himself being thrown towards them before he could even react.

And then, nothing.

Despair seeped into his expression as he let out a cry of sorrow.

“Oh nooooo , I’m dead aren’t I? Noooo, no no noooooo! Gods, why is this happening to me?”

Now noticing the bindings restraining him, he began to spiral further down the rabbit hole, his breathing becoming more and more frantic and hazy as he struggled to break free.

*FLASH*

But before he became inconsolable, a blinding light came to life, shining down on him with such intensity, that he slammed his eyes shut, squinting and blinking as he tried to adjust to the new light source.

“Ah! What the?! Who’s there?!”

The spotlight had slightly shifted to the side, revealing three figures encased in darkness, that surrounded him from every side. With squinted eyes, he did whatever he could to make out what exactly he was looking at. But with the blinding light and pitch black room as a contrast, all his mind could do was fill the void with vivid images of monstrous figures, ready to snatch him up and ferry him away into the underworld.

“Please don’t kill me! I didn’t want to do any of that, they made me do it, I swear!”

Instinctually turning away from the light, he curled into himself, praying to whatever gods out there that this was all just a cruel nightmare that he would wake up from.

And in a strange way, those gods answered. But not in a way he was hoping for.

“The hell are you going on about? We just need to ask you some questions.”

A brash and confident voice echoed through the room. Hearing something so distinctly familiar and normal, it had shocked him out of his spiraling fear, forcing him to look at the source of the noise.

The blinding light had dimmed down to a normal level of brightness, and was now pointed up towards the ceiling, illuminating the entire room, and revealing the three figures that had surrounded him.

He had instantly recognized those faces, he was forced to read and memorize their files after all when they had gotten word that a new supply ship was coming in. And when you had to drive two of them around for the day, you had plenty of time to recognize their distinct voices.

“I-Its you! From the ship! P-PLEASE! You have to understand! I-I don’t know anything! I was just following orders!”

Yuki, the woman with snow white hair and fashioned in designer’s clothing, walked towards him and stared at him dead in the eyes with a frighteningly tranquil expression.

“We both know that’s anything but the truth. We heard everything at the guest house, you signed up to work with them to help with your quirk. So you better start talking and give us everything you know about this island.”

Despite her professional and calm tone, there was the slightest hint of urgency breaking through and wearing down her patience. And this had sent the man’s fight or flight instincts into overdrive, now beginning to sweat buckets and shake violently out of fear, clouding his mind and judgment.

“W-what?”

That was the wrong answer. Yuki’s eyes sharpened and narrowed, her face tensed up, and her hands slowly clenched into tight fists. Unconsciously, she stepped closer towards him, her imposing figure growing larger and larger by the second.

“Don’t fuck with me corn stalk, you weren’t born yesterday! Your little friends left you behind! They sure as hell aren’t gonna come save your sorry ass, so unless you want your ticket out of this island to be a one way trip to behind bars, you’re going to need to start talking!”

His heart was beating faster and faster, the irrational fear flooding his mind making it impossible for the man to think coherently. His only response, was to spiral further and further into terror.

“What?”

*CRASH*

A supply box was suddenly tossed across the room, smashing into the wall and cracking open, spilling out equipment that he’s never seen before. Following the box’s line of trajectory, was Kaida, the other woman at the guesthouse, who had her hand forward in a throwing motion. With a huff of anger, she marched forward, taking Yuki’s place and menacingly leaning towards him.

“What country you from?”

“Wha-what?”

“What ain’t no country I’ve ever heard of! They speak Japanese in ‘What’?”

“W-w-what?”

“JAPANESE MOTHER FUCKER, DO YOU SPEAK IT?!”

“YES!”

“THEN YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING?!”

“YES!”

“THEN TELL US WHERE YOU WERE GOING TO TAKE US! WHERE YOU BRING THE CAPTURED TOURISTS!”

“I-I-I…”

Kaida’s pupils narrowed into slits, her teeth becoming razor sharp and transforming into the maw of a beast as her hands morphed and extended into the form of claws. Before she could say anything however, she was gently pulled to the side by Yuki, as the third figure, one of the ship’s crew members, Asuka, calmly walked forward with arms crossed. He gently grabbed onto the man’s shoulders, and with a cheerful smile and tone, began to talk.

“I can’t believe you guys, that’s not how you interrogate someone.”

He was suddenly dragged onto his feet and escorted to the opposite side of the cave, where he was led to a small table with a singular, crimson red feather awaiting him. Asuka firmly grabbed onto the feather, and all of a sudden, his cheerful demeanor hardened into a cold expression.

“This, is how you interrogate someone.”

A few minutes later, the floodgates had been ripped open, and the man, now introducing himself as Soma, had spilled everything that had happened on Aogashima Island. Despite his timid and shy personality, Soma, now knowing that he had no better option, had poured his heart and soul into describing everything that he could remember, down to the smallest detail.

How one day, a massive bulk carrier arrived onto their shores. The island’s residents believed it was a scheduled cargo ship, but instead of supplies, the only thing that ship contained, was an army of people, claiming that the island now belonged to their sponsor.

At first they had fought back the invaders, but all it had done was wake the sleeping giant, as they had started to tear apart their island from the inside out. Buildings were destroyed, supplies and people were taken away for some unknown project, and every day they would come out from the shadows to instill fear into everybody left on the island.

Eventually, the residents only had two options, help the invaders with their plans, or be whisked away and never be seen again.

Not many people wanted to find out what would happen to them if they went for the latter.

“And we’ve got 673 active members organized into 5 smaller groups. But I don’t know where they keep everyone! Kumo and her freaks always disappear during the day and show up at night to contact us and give us orders! And that’s everything I know!”

While the exposition Soma had given them was enlightening, it wouldn’t be enough to solve any of their problems. There was potentially a massive amount of people needing to be rescued, including their friend. Asuka, now brandishing the crimson feather like a pointing stick, leaned menacingly close to Soma, subtly gesturing towards the feather.

Everything?

Shamefully looking to the side, Soma begrudgingly spouted off the first thing that popped up in his head.

“My quirk kept leaking out, so I wet my bed until I was fourteen.”

He narrowed his eyes at the response, his facial muscles twitching ever so slightly from the sheer frustration beginning to brew.

Losing my patience.”

But before things could escalate any further, Yuki had grabbed onto Asuka’s shoulder, pulling him back and taking his place. While her tone and demeanor was much more mellower, her eyes revealed a sense of urgency.

“I can’t control these two here much longer. We still need to deal with that stupid jammer and find their base. You better give us something we can use.”

“A-A-Ah, it’s at a warehouse near the docks! And wait, there’s someone that knows a lot more than I do! He might know where they’re setting up their base!”

That had instantly gotten everyone’s attention.

Eyebrows perked up with interest, as the three disguised Heroes leaned in closer to hear what he was going to say.

~{P.O.V Ryuko Tatsuma}~

Under the light of the moon and cover of the forest, the three of us sneaked around the very edge of the island, using a nearby abandoned road to keep us on the right track towards our destination.

Most of the trip was carried in relative silence, out of worry that our voices would be carried by the ocean breeze and be heard by anyone patrolling the island, and send the entire place on high alert.

“What are the odds that he’s been pulling all of that out of his ass, and this was a trap?”

Amidst the sound of waves crashing on the cliff face, we could barely register Keigo’s voice. While his tone was sarcastic and humorous, every word was laced with a hint of worry and hesitation. It was something lingering in the back of everyone’s minds, as the only information we have, is relying on someone that was working alongside All for One’s entourage.

There was no telling what could happen once we showed up, maybe everything would go according to plan, maybe the entire island would be on top of us in an instant.

“It’s not, the guy wasn’t lying when he told us everything he knew.”

But hearing Rumi be so sure and confident with herself when she said that, it was enough to put my heart at ease.

“He didn’t look like he was lying, but how could you tell?”

Looking back, Rumi pointed up at herself with a nonchalant expression on her face, or more specifically, up at her rabbit ears, which were now standing at full height, scanning the surroundings for anything that could be a potential danger.

“Super hearing, his heartbeat was practically a jackhammer when we interrogated him, but he was telling the truth the entire time.”

“Well that’s convenient. Though really weird that he’s got a manly name like Soma when he looked like he was about to pass out with how scared he was. Should’ve changed his name to opossum or something.”

Hearing that, the image of Soma dressed like a massive opossum flopping over appeared in my mind. The thought was so sudden that I couldn’t help but snort at the mental image, which was apparently shared between Keigo and Rumi, as they chuckled a bit as well. The levity was perfectly timed, and helped dispel any worries we had for now.

Filling the time with small talk, we soon reached the end of the forest, and spotted the port town where it had all started, in the distance. Knowing that it was time, we all reached into our equipment bags and retrieved a new set of false masks. While nobody there knew of our true identities, it wouldn’t hurt to have an extra layer of protection in case somebody spotted us. Securing on the masks, we each donned our night operations outfits, and went over the plan one more time.

After confirming that everyone was ready, I led the three of us to the roofs to avoid any patrols and have a bird’s eye view of the town. It was only a few hours since we had escaped from the guesthouse, and the entire place was on high alert. Waves upon waves of patrols swarmed the streets, occasionally entering buildings and alleyways.

Looking out towards the ocean, it was as if I was staring into the abyss, with the pitch black waters barely reflecting the moonlight, revealing the silhouettes of patrol boats floating atop the surface of the ocean.

It would’ve been practically impossible to sneak around, they had every inch of the island covered.

“Think you can handle it, Keigo?”

But they probably aren’t looking up. Taking a second to prepare himself, a few of his feathers had parted from the main group and carefully looped around me and Rumi, before lifting us up and dragging the three of us closer towards the docks.

With the blinding lights shining below us from the street lamps, we were relatively safe from being spotted, which gave us all the time we needed to scan the town in its entirety, taking note of anything and everything of note.

Soma’s numbers were beginning to line up, while the official population count was somewhere near one hundred, it was looking closer to be around a thousand people. We were prepared for something like this, but facing it in person was going to be a daunting task.

Looking over at the boat we had arrived in, I didn’t need to strain my eyes to see a massive de-construction project was commencing, as a massive chunk of the ship’s main deck had been stripped to the metal frame itself. Like a hawk, we watched as the construction workers had loaded up the supplies onto a large convoy of transport vehicles, all driving off into the ruined city.

Saving that information for later, we continued to look for anything out of place.

“Look there, near the edge of the wire fences.”

Following Rumi’s line of sight, was a warehouse, extremely worn down and practically ready to fall apart at the faintest breeze. But the strangest thing, was the fact that there were armed guards standing at the entrance.

Pulling out a spectrum analyzer and pointing it towards the building, I watched as the signal strength began to fluctuate wildly, before cutting out entirely. Once I moved it away from the building, the signal started to pick itself back up again, before the same thing would repeat when pointed back at the warehouse.

“Good catch, bring us closer Keigo, let’s see if we can find a way in.”

Quickly flying forward, we were carefully placed onto the rooftop. The only thing of note was a rooftop access stairwell, and was unfortunately locked. Seeing that there was a constant stream of people coming in and out of the building, it was not a good idea to break open the lock, not if we wanted to risk somebody coming up to investigate the noise and finding signs of a forced entry.

“Here, let me handle this.”

As I was reaching into the bag to bust open the lock-picking kit we had brought along,  Keigo had already come forward, a few of his feathers twisting and turning as it fiddled with the lock.

Rumi snickered as most of the feathers returned back to its owner, leaving behind only two feathers. One was occasionally flicking upwards, while the other remained locked in place, placing tension on the turning mechanism.

“Haha, there’s no way that’s gonna work. They’re just gonna snap in half, let’s just use the–”

*Click*

Before we could even finish blinking, we could hear a distinctly metallic click, before the second feather rotated around the lock and slid the door open. Straightening out the bent feathers, Keigo looked back at Rumi with a smug expression on his face.

“Never mind, I stand corrected.”

Without a second word, we carefully navigated down the stairs, using a combination of our enhanced senses to scout out the entire building. And with every square meter we explored, the more and more we were convinced that this was the building we were looking for.

It was a state of the art facility, divided into three different floors, each covered from wall to wall with rows and rows of computers. The building was filled with armed guards and a few workers who were busy typing away and running around the place. Their loud voices echoed and bounced off of the walls, overlapping and colliding each other so much, it became a flurry of words.

“Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha has responded! The ships arrived on schedule, no concerning reports have been made so far!”

“Nippon Express is asking about one of their ships! Most likely a trainee that wasn’t filled in!”

“I’ll take care of it, and Mitsui O.S.K Lines agreed to send the next batch next week!”

Is this how they’ve gone unnoticed for so long? Those are some of the biggest shipping companies in Japan! They must’ve planted some of All for One’s spies to cover up any paper trails left behind.

“Someone’s coming, hide!”

Suddenly, I was yanked up the ceiling, pressing up against it as much as possible. Holding our breaths, we watched as a small patrol group walked down the hallway, completely unaware of the three intruders just meters away from them.

Hearing their echoing footsteps slowly fade away. A sigh of relief escaped from all three of us, as we slinked towards the ground.

“That was way too close.”

“Yeah, we need to find what we’re looking for quickly and get the hell out before they catch on.”

As much as we wanted to make things easier on us by knocking out the guards that got in our way, it would eventually backfire once the new rotation of guards came into the building, and would immediately send the place on high alert.

Unfortunately, the best we could do was take advantage of Keigo’s feathers to scout out the entire building, and use my and Rumi’s super hearing to navigate and alert us of any approaching guards.

It was a slow and methodical process, but we had eventually found ourselves in the basement level, where a massive machine the size of the room itself awaited us. Confirming that it was the thing we were looking for, Rumi couldn’t help but snicker.

“Thought it’d be a lot smaller.”

Smirking from her aside and flicking her ear, we carefully approached the machine.

According to Soma, this was the machine that controlled all communications on the island, allowing for only specific frequencies to enter and leave the island. It was what made it impossible for normal people to call for help, and the source of the jamming signals.

Unfortunately, he didn’t come with an operation manual. Apparently only the most trusted members of the island’s forces were privy to the inner-mechanics of the machine. The only reason why Soma knew about its existence was because of one of the workers complaining about it while they were drinking.

The three of us silently stared at the endlessly blinking knobs and buttons covering every inch of the machine, the monitors weren’t any help, as they were displaying lines upon lines of code and diagnostic information.

Even if we didn’t know how to work it ourselves, we came well prepared. Searching through the equipment bag, I pulled out a small device and carefully opened up a side panel, revealing the inner circuitry of the machine. While it would have been nice to shut it down like Keigo did temporarily, this time it would alert the entire building that we were messing with their communications, so we had to go with the next best thing.

Once linked up to the jammer, the device’s lights blinked on and off for a few seconds, before endless lines of code began to spew out of its tiny monitor. Eventually, the screen was wiped clean, before it displayed all of the same information that the jammer’s monitor showed to us.

We didn’t know how it worked exactly, but Nezu had developed a device that could seamlessly integrate into any system and find loopholes, cracks in their security, and creates a backdoor for us to use in any way we want.

It’s what allowed him to do all sorts of reconnaissance work and get us this much information on All for One’s whereabouts. And for us, it gave us full access to the jammer. Now we were able to open up a secret channel that allowed us to contact the outside world, with nobody none the wiser. Taking out our long-range communicators and tuning it to a certain frequency, we prayed that everything was going according to plan.

*Bzzt* *Bzzt* *Krk krk krk krk*

The communicator let out a sharp static scream, flipping through channel after channel as it started to adjust to the new frequency. Before long, the static became quieter and quieter, almost becoming a droning silence. Carefully holding down the button, I tested the microphone.

“This is Salamander, come in Calico, do you read me? I repeat, this is Salamander, come in Calico.”

Silence.

A pang of worry started to creep into the back of my mind. The Wild Wild Pussycats weren’t responding, are they also in the same situation as us? Is that why they can’t respond? There’s a jammer over on their end cutting off communications? Are we really going to have to finish this operation alone? What if things start to go even more downhill from here?

Before I could spiral even further, we heard a garbled noise start to come through on the communicator. It was extremely faint, practically drowned out by the low static, but it was something. Quickly increasing the dampening effects on the jammer, we were able to broadcast on wider and stronger frequencies. It would make it easier for the people here to detect an unauthorized broadcast, but it was a risk we needed to take.

Soon, the noise became sharper and sharper, the highs and lows turned into distinct and familiar sounds. A voice started to break through the veil, and although it was garbled and distorted, it was legible enough.

"̶H̴e̴l̸l̸o̵?̴ ̷T̶h̵i̸s̵ ̷i̵s̸ ̶C̸h̵i̴m̸e̴r̷a̷,̵ ̴I̵'̵m̵ ̴r̸e̷a̸d̶i̸n̸g̵ ̷y̶o̶u̸.̸ ̷A̶r̵e̵ ̵y̶o̵u̴ ̶a̶l̵r̴i̸g̵h̴t̶,̴ ̷S̴a̸l̶a̶m̸a̴n̷d̷e̶r̷?̸ ̷Y̸o̵u̷ ̶w̴e̷r̷e̸ ̸s̴u̷p̶p̵o̸s̷e̴d̵ ̸t̴o̶ ̶r̶a̴d̵i̶o̴ ̶i̵n̷ ̷h̵o̴u̵r̵s̴ ̸a̴g̶o̵!̸"̵

Relief swelled in our chests as we recognized the familiar chirping of Principal Nezu.

“Ne-Chimera! Thank gods! Things are a lot worse here than we thought! We’re looking at hundreds of potential Villains, and they’re blocking all communications. Requesting backup to us and to Team Calico A.S.A.P!”

After Nezu had secured the connection, we filled him in on the situation as best as we could. We were running out of time that we couldn’t measure. There was no telling when someone would come down, but there’s just so many things we needed to relay to the outside world.

Once we had finished, Principal Nezu took a few seconds to weigh his options, before responding with a plan of action.

“I can reroute teams of Heroes to you and Team Calico, but they would take at least a day to get there, and that’s being generous. By my estimations, you’ll get back up in 48 hours. I’m sorry Salamander-kun, you and your team are going to need to take charge and hold out until then.”

Hearing the news, I clicked my teeth out of frustration. It wasn’t the best, but at least it was something. We just need to roll with the punches and make the most of it. After talking it over with Keigo and Rumi, we nodded in agreement and reconfirmed with Nezu.

“Understood, good luck Heroes.”

Turning off the communicator, we quickly wrapped everything up on our end, cleaning up any evidence we left behind, while also leaving behind a small gift.

In the event that we ever need to, some malware software that we had implanted into the jammer can go off at the click of a button. And it would either destroy the machine in its entirety, or flip it in on itself, cutting off all communications between All for One’s forces, while leaving backdoors for us to talk with the outside world.

Rolling his shoulders and popping any cracks that were beginning to form, Keigo swiftly sent out his feathers to survey the building, taking note of any and all personnel in the area. Once it was clear, we silently creeped through the hallways, hiding around corners and sticking to the ceiling to avoid the patrolling guards, until we escaped out of the stairwell and onto the roof.

Despite sneaking around for only an hour at most, the claustrophobic and stress-inducing warehouse made it feel like we had spent weeks inside of there. Taking a deep breath, I could smell the fresh air, perfumed by the smell of the ocean breeze. Those few moments helped clear my mind and reorganize my thoughts.

While it would have been nice if we were able to enjoy the change in scenery, we couldn’t afford that luxury.

“Job’s not finished. Are we ready to move out?”

Having the feeling that Rumi was just going to shout about how bored she was getting from sneaking around so much, I immediately clamped my hands on top of her mouth. The smug look in her eyes only further proved my point.

But taking that as confirmation, Keigo picked the two of us up with his feathers, and carried the three of us straight up into the clouds where we wouldn’t be easily spotted. After a minute or so of flying, we slowly descended back down into the island, where we were greeted to the ruined city where we had been given the tour.

Seeing the stark difference between the bustling port town and the ghost town with buildings torn asunder, I felt a pang in my heart.

Guilt started to claw away from the inside, guilt at not being able to prevent this tragedy from happening in the first place, guilt for not knowing that this had been happening undetected for so long, and guilt at the thought of what might befall the island and its residents had we not investigated in the first place.

Looking up at the two, I could see that they both had the same disheartened expression, but underneath the veil, was a fire, growing ever so slowly and burning brightly. No words were needed to be exchanged, we all knew the one simple truth of it all.

We will save them.

It’s what heroes do.

After a few minutes of flying through the ruins, using a crude map and directions given to us by Soma, we eventually came across a singular building in the residential district that remained untouched, practically brand new in comparison to the destruction that surrounded it.

Attached to the door, was a name plate that could be seen clear as day. Ryota Ueno.

Back in the caves, Soma had confessed that every week, Ryota would head off to the invader’s main base, where he would give a report on everything that had happened on the island, as well as any plans for the future. As luck would have it, today was the end of the week. We have the perfect opportunity to sneak into his home, and search the place for any clues about the island. Once he returns from his post, we’ll capture and interrogate him as well.

Carefully setting up in a nearby broken down building, we silently stalked the building and watched as the clock slowly ticked down to midnight.

Like clockwork, the second our watches had switched over to the new day, the lights in the house flickered out, and out stepped Ryota. With a quick mental command, a single feather of Keigo zoomed through the air, zipping in and out of the alleyways, before gently latching onto the back of Ryota’s shoes. On the off chance we couldn’t find anything in the house, we would still be able to track his whereabouts and follow the trail to where the base is located. But right now, we desperately needed information, so once it was confirmed that he was not going to come back anytime soon, we leaped into action.

Carefully laying out sensors all throughout the surrounding area to alert us if anyone was approaching, and using the lock picking tool to hack and break into Ryota’s technologically advanced locks, we were in. The second we opened the door, Keigo snidely remarked.

“Well this is underwhelming”.

The large home was surprisingly quaint and tidy for someone that would be working outside all day. And despite the place being extremely spacey to house a single person, there were no security or surveillance systems, we had double checked with a scanner.

We were free to search.

Quickly splitting up, we each went out separate ways and explored every inch of the house. From the living room, to the storage closets, even the kitchen wasn’t spared from the search. Eventually working my way towards our best bet, the study room, I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted to a treasure trove’s equivalent of everything we had been looking for.

Various maps lined the table, one showing a recent scan of the island from the top down, dated to have been taken just a month ago. It was drastically different compared to the map that we were provided before the mission, with there being massive sections of the island being turned into facilities. But what surprised me the most, was the second map.

Saying that the island was the tip of the iceberg was an understatement, the second map revealed an entire underground section of the island. From the looks of things, it was created at the same time All for One’s forces had arrived on the island, with tunnels expanding and encompassing not just the entire island, but the seabed as well. It was practically a scaled up version of an ant colony’s nest, with massive caves housing the entire invading army.

No wonder why we couldn’t find it, we were searching in a completely different area.

Quickly collecting everything and storing it away, I reconvened with Rumi, who had finished searching her side of the house, while Keigo was still lagging behind and looking through the smaller rooms.

“Found his diary.” Rumi presented a leatherbound journal. “Dude’s practically part robot with how crazy he is with keeping track of everything. Talks about what he and the others do everyday, names of people they captured, hell there’s enough evidence in here to lock everybody up, no question.”

Carefully flipping through the pages, I was floored with the ever expanding list of heinous crimes this man and so many others have committed. Safely storing it away along with the maps, we were alerted to the sound of hurried footsteps, as Keigo busted out of the bedroom and rushed to us.

“Guys! We have a serious problem!” In his hands was a small picture frame, the one you would set up beside your bed. His expression filled with shock and fear. “Ryota’s dating that psycho spider-girl, Kumo!”

Shoving the photo in our faces, we saw those photobooth pictures that couples would always take together, and within the frames, was Ryota, as well as an, admittedly, beautiful woman with distinct spider-mutations.

“We need to go, now ! If they’re lovebirds, they probably live together, and we don’t know where that psycho is!”

A brief moment of horror washed over the three of us, as we remembered Keigo’s retelling of their encounter with the supposed leader of the invaders. But before we could even take a single step, a hauntingly soft beep chirped in our communicators.

*Blip*

Someone has tripped the sensors outside.

*Blip**Blip**Blip*

No, someones, plural

*Blip**Blip**Blip**Blip**Blip*

It was an army of people that was marching towards the building.

“Fuck! Let’s get out of here!!”

Stashing all of the evidence away, I grabbed their wrists and made a break for it towards the backdoor.

*BOOM*

But right as we were about to turn the knob, the front door was blasted open, the wooden frame launching forward with such force that it crashed into the wall beside us, shattering into tens of hundreds of pieces.

Ashy gray smoke flooded the room.

Too late to escape in time, we were forced to turn around and face the challenge head on. Partially transforming my arms into their stronger dragon claws, I slipped into a martial arts stance and prepared myself alongside the others.

Shadowy figures emerged from the smoke, as a group of masked people in dark clothes rushed into the house. But the moment our eyes made contact, they all froze in place, staring at the three of us in confusion.

“Who the hell are you? You’re not Ryota.”

My Hero Academia Reloaded: Chapter 37: End

Notes:

So Ao3 has a new update to their policies, very iffy about how I feel about it.

Also names:
Kumo (雲), meaning cloud, but can be written as 蜘蛛, translates to spider, representing vastness and intricate connections in life. Very creative, I know.
Ryota Ueno, meaning splendidly stout, someone strong, and upper field.
Soma, meaning brave. A small poke since I wrote his character to be as chicken as possible.

Works inspired by this one:
