Frost

Summary:

”Mhm. Try it,” said Sunny shortly, her ears a glowing pink as her face turned away in the slightest movement. Her hands lifted the tray a little more upwards, and Aubrey reached then snatched a cookie.

Little chocolate chips were embedded in the baked dough, and Aubrey couldn’t get enough of it after the first bite. However, she kept her composure, feeling the crusty texture of the cookie against her finger tips as she munched on the small bite of cookie.

Shaking her pink hair out of her face, she squinted at Sunny. "Are you sure this is like, your first time baking? Mari didn't give you top-secret baking lessons, did she?"

-
Aubrey tries some of the cookies Sunny baked, and the two enjoy a warm moment indoors during a snowstorm.

Work Text:

Aubrey rested the side of her face in the palm of her hand as her finger traced shapes, cutting through the fog on the windowpane. The outside was cold, yet her own long hair shielded her own warmth, and also there was the heater.

Nothing hard fell harshly against the tiled floor of the kitchen behind her, so she could just keep her knees rested on the seat of the sofa just fine as she looked out the window, just like a little kid. Her muscles still tensed up to make her get up and dash to the other room in case Sunny desperately needed any help, however.

”Done,” a low voice came out of the kitchen, yet that wasn’t enough to make Aubrey stop admiring the outdoors. A snowstorm was blazing outside, diagonally-falling snow covering everything in her vision of the house’s far exterior, yet it was wonderful, how something so destructive could be so beautiful.…

….no, it wasn’t beautiful, was it? It made her heart speed up, not in the nice warm way Sunny would make it so but—

“Done.”

That voice, again, but more urgent.

”Oh, finished the cookies?” Aubrey playfully grinned as she hopped off the sofa - making a loud bouncing sound that made Sunny squint at her in disapproval - and leaned in as if to sniff the cookies in the tray held in her girlfriend’s hands, when in reality she was just putting her face closer to Sunny’s. Of course, it was all intentional.

At the teasing remark, the shorter one just walked past Aubrey and set the tray on the living room's center table. The next thing she did was flop onto the couch uncharacteristically.

So obviously she had to join Sunny.

The first bite of cookie still bursting flavor in her mouth, Aubrey also flopped down on the sofa next to the other girl.

"It tastes delish~"

"....really."

Aubrey turned her head, while she leaned it against the back of the sofa. "Yep."

Sunny side-eyed her. "There's a layer of frost on our window. Should we clean it tomorrow?"

"Yeah, sure," Aubrey said back nonchalantly, waving a hand randomly. "But don't think about that now, Sun."

A tinge of pink came to Sunny’s cheeks, expression softening slightly. She always had this awesome look when her hair was down and little messy, the black strands of hair brushing against her shoulder.

"Do you want a cookie?" Aubrey already had another one in her hand. There were around....seventeen more where that came from.

Lightly, the other nodded, face looking blank save for a twinkle in her dark eyes. Sure, Sunny could take a cookie herself but....

"Just don't shove it in my mouth," she gave Aubre a slight glare, which made her laugh.

"Hm, sure. Now open up–" and Sunny quickly bit a piece off of the cookie and had snatched it out of her hands.

"Hey! I was about to do some lovey-dovey feeding or whatever with you!" Aubrey pouted a little playfully, but she still slouched over and leaned to the side on Sunny’s shoulder. "You would make a good heater."

".....literally anything's a heater, with how cold it is outside."

"I could smell the chocolate chip from your mouth. In a good way. What if we....shared it?" Aubrey tilted her head up at Sunny and raised an eyebrow to emphasize her question.

"Later," she heard Sunny deadpan.

"You know like, kissing."

"Yeah. Just finish the rest of the batch." Aubrey felt her girlfriend get warmer, and smirked to herself.

The best way to spend a snowstorm, in her opinion, definitely was to eat a bunch of warm cookies indoors. Maybe she could convince Sunny to draw some patterns with her in the fog on the windows right behind both of them.
