Chapter 1: Wright.
Chapter Text
I love you.
The phrase boggled the prosecutor's mind. He found it to be an unnecessary feeling. Only an emotion made to get in the way of his professional work style. He wouldn't dare let himself get to this level of vulnerability.
noun
{Miles Edgeworth: A notorious prosecutor who has no business in the realm of “love”.}
Why was he thinking of these silly words anyway? He didn't know. Miles tried to continue on with his work, looking through old files, writing on random pieces of paper, scribbling over false remarks he made many cases ago; he didn't have any work to do.
The man sat back in his chair, sighing begrudgingly. He didn't exactly want to go home, nor did he want to stay in his office. After shoving random items and papers into his briefcase, he put on his black trenchcoat and set off into the cold outdoors.
Merely walking across the parking lot was a struggle due to the low temperatures. December is coming once more, he thought to himself. In the wake of the moment, he dropped his briefcase, papers and pens spilling out everywhere. “Shit!” All he wanted was to get to his car and go home. Miles loudly sighed, placing his index and middle finger on his temple.
“Edgeworth?” Miles heard a familiar voice call out. He snapped his head to the side, trying to see if anybody was actually there. After a few seconds, there was a figure faintly walking over, his frame becoming more and more clear.
“Wright? What are you doing here? It is freezing.” Miles had a slightly irritated expression on his face.
“Well-”
“And where is your winter coat? Only wearing a hat doesn't cut it.”
“Let me explain first.”
noun
{Phoenix Wright: An outstanding defense attorney who could be considered a friend and rival of Edgeworth. - An emotionally inclined airhead.}
“I…” Miles sat with a blank expression on his face, looking intently at Phoenix.
“Go on.”
Phoenix sighed. This man is hopeless. “I left my coat at home.” Miles gave another blank stare.
“Is that it?”
“Yep.” Phoenix proudly smiled. Miles pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Why don't you explain to me why you're here now, Wright?” The prosecutor asked, clearly exasperated.
“Oh yes, I almost forgot!” Such a moron. Phoenix strolled closer to Miles, lifting a brown bag from behind his back. “Here you go!”
“What is this?” Miles glared up at the lawyer.
“Teabags. It's getting colder these days, so I got a little gift for you.” Phoenix said, his eyes lighting up. Edgeworth pleasantly accepted the gift.
“Thank you, Wright. It is much appreciated.” He stood up with his briefcase tightly in hand.
“I should get going now-”
“Is that all you came here for?” Miles asked.
“Well yeah, I guess.”
“How did you get here?” He further pressed.
“By foot.” Wright. Miles slightly furrowed his eyebrows.
“Let me give you a ride.”
“Oh there's no need! I wouldn't want to hold you up much longer-”
“I will be giving you a ride, Wright.” Miles stated, slightly agitated.
.・゜゜・
“Well, here we are.” Phoenix said, awkwardly chuckling. “Thank you again, Edgeworth.. For the ride I mean.”
“No need to thank me.”
The lawyer carefully closed the car door before entering into his office building. Finally, Miles thought to himself. I can head home.
Edgeworth got through his front door, shutting it tightly before sitting on the ground. “Why would a man of his standing get such a gift for me? How unbelievable.” Miles softly groaned before opening the bag that was given to him. Lemon Balm? He held the tea bag container. “Hmph. Never heard of it.” He stared at the label once more. It wouldn't hurt to try..
Miles walked over to his kitchen, getting a mug and kettle. Where did Wright get a tea like this? It certainly would never be sold in a city such as ours. He filled his mug with the steaming water, carefully setting the tea bag within the cup. I shall give him a call later. Whilst waiting for the drink to cool down, Miles gazed out of his apartment window, taking in the scenic view.

“.. Hello, this is Wright speaking.”
“Hello, Wright.”
“Oh, hey Edgeworth. Was there something you wanted to talk about?”
“Of course there is, why else would I have called?”
Well that's one way to call me out for my lack of reasoning, Phoenix thought to himself, forming a stupid, defeated expression.
“Anyhow, where did you get this tea from? It is quite good and yet I know of no place where a thing like this would be sold.”
“Well uhm..” Phoenix had a brain fart coming up with an answer. Bazinga! Phoenix, don't think that ever again. “I actually heard of the tea in a mythology book I had been reading! I thought you might've had an idea on what it was.”
“That doesn't answer my question, Wright. Where did you get the tea?”
Phoenix sighed. He's onto me. “I.. I special ordered the tea from Italy.”
He could practically hear Edgeworth's disapproval. “Now why would you do that?”
Both ends of the phone stayed silent until Miles gave a solid ‘Ahem’.
“... For you.” Phoenix muttered.
“Ugh. You're such a child. Always going out of your way for others.” Miles deeply sighed. “Thank you anyway. I cherished every sip. Have a good evening, Wright.”
“Goodnight Edg-” Miles hung up the phone before letting Phoenix get his final sentence out.
“Why does he always have a way to make me not hate him?” Edgeworth cowardly stated to himself. He pinched the bridge of his nose whilst walking into his bedroom, preparing for rest earlier than usual.
.・✫・゜・。.
Miles sat in his office that morning just like the last. Paperwork? Done. Cases? None. Anything to do? Nope. He sat back in his chair, sliding down the seat heavily. What am I ever going to do with all the free time I have?
Why not call Phoenix?
No, that's out of the question. Why would I do such a silly thing anyways? I'm not in love with him or anything. That would be absolutely ridiculous, foolish even.
That's not completely true though.
Why would I think that? No, no, no. I refuse to believe it. Not even a single bit. I hate that man with all of my heart. The way he looks, the way he smiles, the way he laughs, the stupid (but awfully adorable) accusations he makes… adorable? Phoenix Wright? Adorable? Never. Not once would it have even cros-
Through the middle of Edgeworth's crisis, there was a knock on the door. Miles sighed. “Come in.” With the door came a smooth-brained detective: Dick Gumshoe.
“Hey there, Pal!”
“What is it that you require?” Edgeworth asked in annoyance.
“Well, urm.. there was a gift left here.. It had your name written on it.” Gumshoe reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, neatly wrapped box. “Here ya go, Pal.”
Edgeworth looked suspiciously at the gift. “Thank you, Detective Gumshoe.”
“I gotta get going now. Good seeing you, Pal!” The clumsy detective closed the door behind him before tripping over his own feet in the hall. Miles paid no attention to the loud sound. Does that big oaf really have to put ‘Pal’ in every sentence? He thought to himself, still staring intently at the package brought to him.
“... I see no harm in opening it.” Edgeworth carefully unwrapped the box, removing the lid afterwards. Inside held a small flower with a note.
‘Hey, Edgeworth! Not sure if you'll ever get this package, but in case you do, I found this for you. - Phoenix Wright.’
A red chrysanthemum. Miles thought to himself for a few minutes, his body tense. Why? Why would Wright go out of his way for this? This is the second day in a row. The prosecutor reached for his phone, dialing a certain defense lawyer.

“Hello, this is Wright speakin-”
“Wright, we need to talk.”
“Oh, Edgeworth. Is there something wro-”
“The package you sent. Why?”
“Oh you mean the flower? I just… uh..”
“Wright.”
“Right, right! I sent it because I thought you would, er, like it?” Miles raised an eyebrow.
“Why'd you say that as a question? Are you asking me if I like it?” Annoyance grew heavier in his voice.
“I mean.. I guess?” Why can't this idiot just answer the questions like a normal person?
“..I will say, I do appreciate the flower. I'm just… confused, is all.” Miles paused. “I'll take your word. Have a good evening, Wright.”
“Wait-” Edgeworth - once again - hung up the phone on Phoenix. The man sighed. Is there some sort of symbolism to it?.... No. That lawyer is too idiotic for a scheme like that.
RING
RING
“Hello?”
“Edgeworth, is that you?”
“Can't you answer that question yourself, Wright? We were just on the phone, what could you possibly have called for-”
“Would you like to have dinner at my place tomorrow night?” Miles squinted his eyes in confusion. Why couldn't he have asked earlier? Such a fool.
“Hmph. I'll think about it. This is such short notice I must say, but I will most definitely consider it.”
“Okay… well, um..”
“What time?”
“... What?”
“What time would dinner be, Wright?” Idiot.
“Oh, at 8 PM!”
“Okay. Thank you. Goodbye, Wright.”
“Bye, Edgeworth!” Miles reluctantly hung up the phone. He got out of his chair and paced around, Why would I agree to dinner with him?! The man grabbed his trench coat and briefcase. I already have a crisis at hand that involves him, why must I torture myself with his presence? He got into his car. That stupid, dumb, idiotic, persuading man. He unlocked his house door. I didn't exactly agree, but I didn't refuse either.. He walked straight to his bedroom. I should go anyway. The last thing I want is a man like him to worry himself over my presence. He got into bed, trembling slightly. I need to rest. Can't keep myself awake like this. Miles closed his eyes, wishing to fall asleep faster. He tossed and turned, but nothing could make him feel tired.
Where did Wright get a flower? It's the middle of winter.
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆
Edgeworth woke up the next morning, fully aware that he only had 2 hours of sleep. Phoenix Wright… All he could think about was the various possibilities of Wright obtaining a full-bloomed chrysanthemum.
As usual, Miles sat in his office. Papers? Finished. Cases? Still none. Anything to do? Once again, nothing. The prosecutor sat back in his chair, trying very hard to stay awake.

KNOCK
Miles jumped. Shit, I fell asleep.. He put on his glasses before quickly tending to the office door. “Hello?”
“Edgeworth?” Phoenix stood in front of the doorway, looking a bit concerned for the prosecutor.
“Oh, Wright. Come in.” Miles said quietly. Both men walked into the office, not saying a word. “What is your visit about?”
“About our plans for tonight,” Ah, even if it was the reason for my lack of sleep, it slipped my mind. “Do you want to walk there? My apartment's only around the block.”
“I'm.. unsure.” Quit being so sloppy, Miles.
“Did something happen?”
“Wright.. I'm going to be honest with you. I got two hours of sleep last night. I can barely keep my head up just talking to you.”
“Edgeworth.” Phoenix lightly sighed, soon accompanied with a smile. “You could sleep at my house.” Miles looked taken back. The thought of sleeping in another man's bed was… interesting, to say the least, especially since it would be Phoenix's bed. “Take it or leave it. Either way, I'm going to help you…. somehow.” Edgeworth contemplated for a bit, looking desperate and yet resentful.
“Wright..”
“Yes?”
“.. Can I stay at your place for tonight?”
“Of course. We should get going now though.”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
Miles and Phoenix walked side by side, only the sounds of bustling traffic could be heard.
“Wright, I do have a question about the… Ahem… flower.”
“Ask away.”
“How did you get a full-bloomed chrysanthemum in the middle of winter? It just isn't possible.” Once Miles asked, Phoenix stayed silent. “Answer or not, it still can't be done.”
“Well…”
“Well?”
“I exaggerated. I didn't actually find the flower. I planted it.” Phoenix said, unbothered by his own words. Miles looked at him, still very confused. “In my home, I set up a pot, and grew chrysanthemums.”
“You've done many strange things, Wright, but why this? Was there some big reason behind it?” Edgeworth pressed, a bit irritated.
“There was, actually. For you.”
“You've used this same reason before.”
“Who says I can't use it again?” Phoenix objected. Both attorneys fell silent.
“But why me?” Miles asked. Phoenix stayed quiet, only staring at the ground.
“We're here, Edgeworth.”
-: ✧ :-゜・.
“Make yourself comfortable!” Phoenix spoke cheerfully. “I'll go get some spare clothes for you.”
“Thank you, Wright.” Miles sat on the sofa, taking in the atmosphere. This apartment is so much smaller than mine. It was so cluttered in the best way possible. Random trinkets filling up every space, small plants giving the home some life, the messy and yet indescribably cozy Phoenix Wright.
“Here you go, Edgeworth. You can sleep in my bedroom, I'll take the couch.”
“Thank you. Have a well-rested night, Wright.”
“Goodnight to you too.” Miles stumbled toward the bedroom, changing from his suit to the clothes Phoenix gave him. Lucky opportunity, get to sleep at last. He quickly got into the bed, immediately noticing how soft the mattress had felt. In just a few minutes, Miles Edgeworth had fallen asleep.
The man woke up the next morning, feeling very refreshed. He reached for his glasses, only feeling a strange object on the table. Once he finally found his glasses, he took a look at the other thing laying on the nightstand. It was…. another chrysanthemum? There was a note next to the flower that went as read:
‘Hey, I had to leave early for work, so I left you a little gift! - Phoenix Wright’
Next to the words was a little doodle of (what was supposed to be) Wright himself. Miles chuckled before taking a good look at the flower. How did he know these were my favorites? He gazed at the chrysanthemum, becoming a bit flushed. “I really do love that idiot.”
Chapter 2: Stuck.
Summary:
Miles Edgeworth is very unlike himself. Stubborness and a hard working attitude never mix well.

{ Avert: As in thwart; avoid by turning away. A word that could be used when trying to avoid a certain person. }
Miles quickly glanced up. I love him? He became flushed in an instant. Oh god, I love him. HIM! He hurriedly got out of the bed, grabbing all of his belongings and running out the door. Wright. Wright, Wright, Wright. Storming back to his office, Edgeworth was infuriated, embarrassed almost. I refuse to believe it. It just can't happen. The man slammed his office doors closed. “This is stupid.” He murmured to himself.
Slowly pacing around the room, Miles carefully thought about his next move. Do I go home? Do I stay here? “Argh. This is Wright's fault.” Ultimately, he decided to go home; his headache would only grow if he were to stay in his office.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾ ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
Once the prosecutor had gotten home, he immediately went to his bedroom. I must change before anything else. Only a small problem occurred - he was still wearing Phoenix's clothes from the night before. Miles sighed, feeling defeated. I have to return these at once.
He changed into a thick sweater and dress pants, afterwards going right back to his front door. I don't want to see him.
You do though.
Shut it. I do not.
Miles was once again, somewhere that wasn't home. His heart raced whilst walking up to Phoenix's front door. Quit it, Miles. You need to be professional. He shakily knocked on the door, hoping that nobody would answer. 1, 2 , 3 , 4…
“Hello?” Phoenix said while opening the door.
“H-hello, Wright.” Miles froze.
“Is there something you need?”
“Your.. your clothes.” Nice going, dimwit. Phoenix stared in confusion. “Ahem..I meant I came to return your clothes.” Miles quickly spouted out. He held out a plastic bag.
“Oh, thank you, Edgeworth.” Phoenix tried to grab the bag. He tried. “Urm… Edgeworth..Could you let go?”
“Oh, yes- right.”
Both men stood in silence, shooting awkward glances towards each other. “I must get going.”
“Oh…urm..” Disappointment set in Phoenix's voice.
“Is there a problem, Wright?”
“Wou-...” Phoenix sighed. “Would you like to come in?”
“I would love to.” Miles said without hesitation. Wright welcomed the prosecutor through the door. Edgeworth eagerly stepped into the home.
♩✧♪●♩○♬☆
Damn it, Miles. At least act like you don't want to see him!
But you do.
Do not.
Phoenix walked over to the kitchen, making up fresh batches of beverages. Meanwhile, Miles sat on the couch.
“Ahem… Wright, you still haven't answered my question from last night.”
“Oh, er.. could you remind me of it again?”
Sighing, Miles still answered. “I had asked why you planted those flowers for me… Why did you?” Phoenix stopped what he was doing.
“Be-because I wanted to?.. Haha..” I'm never going to get a straight answer from him, am I? Miles crossed his arms.
“That's it?”
“Well they are beautiful flowers to have around and I thought maybe you um… liked.. them?” The defense lawyer held out a stupid grin. Utterly ridiculous.
“Fine.. if that's your genuine answer…” Phoenix continued what he was doing, his expression becoming a bit softer. Moments later, he came to the couch, holding two cups.
“Here.. It's quite cold this time around, y'know?”
“Thank you, Wright.” Edgeworth grabbed the cup, soaking in its warmth. “If you wouldn't mind me asking, what is this?”
“Oh- completely slipped my mind! It's tea… the kind I gave you the other day, to be specific.” Specifics now? He's never been the type to talk about specifics unless mentioned.
Miles took a sip of the tea. “Hmph.” Phoenix stared intently at the other man. “Not terrible.” The prosecutor could see Phoenix's face lighting up.
“Do you really mean it?”
“I do.” Miles looked concerningly at Wright. He looks like he's about to cry. Cute. No, no, no, don't even sta- To Edgeworth's surprise, he did start tearing up a bit. Moron. “There is no need to cry over it; This is perhaps the first time you've successfully made tea.”
“Thank you, Miles.” Edgeworth felt light headed for a moment. He rarely uses my given name. “I am really relieved that you think it's well-made. Usually you always have something to critique.” Phoenix chuckled.
“You are quite welcome, Wright.” Miles took his last sip and gently placed the cup down. “Well, I should get going; this headache is only getting worse-”
“Do you want to stay?” Phoenix abruptly asked. Edgeworth stiffened. “Er.. that was really sudden… you don't have to if you don-”
“Do you want me to stay?”
“W-what?”
“Wright, do you want me to stay?”
“I mean.. yes?”
“Then I will stay.”
☆♬○♩●♪✧♩
Miles Edgeworth, why do you do this to yourself? The prosecutor laid in Phoenix's bed for the second night in a row, wondering where did it all go wrong? I set this trap for myself, quite a conundrum. Right next to him was a “dopey” attorney, snoring gracefully against his side. Dammit, Wright… Why must you sleep right next to me when you have enough space for yourself? The prosecutor stared at the wall, only hearing the pillow's heartbeat thudding.
Minutes passed and Miles was just barely awake. Between the growing headache and pounding heartbeat, he couldn't tell which was worse. Once he was on the verge of actually sleeping, Phoenix grabbed onto Edgeworth's arm causing Edgeworth to jolt up a little. Go to sleep faster. He shut his eyes very tightly, only wishing to get away from this sleep-deprived nightmare. Eventually, he did get to sleep… until he was woken up only a few hours later.
“Edgeworth? Are you awake?”
“...”
“I don't know about your schedule but I gotta get to my office. There's leftover breakfast in the fridge, help yourself!”
“...”
SLAM.
Miles flinched, only just realizing what had happened. He reached over for his glasses, slowly but carefully watching for any strange objects. There weren't any. Hmph. He got out of the bed and walked out of the room, stumbling towards the fridge. Before opening the door, he noticed a small letter stuck to it with a car magnet. Ironic, he doesn't even have his license. It read as:
‘Hey, Edgeworth. Whether you see this note or not doesn't really matter, but just in case, have a good day!’
- Phoenix Wright
Next to the words was, once again, a little doodle. This time it was of some sort of meal; Miles couldn't tell what kind of meal.
Alas, he opened the fridge door, ready to judge the foods Phoenix had been storing. To his surprise, there were a lot of vegetables. How peculiar. Near the vegetables layed a strange organism - a flower. Edgeworth picked it up. A chrysanthemum. He felt confused, flustered, embarrassed. Why would he do this? Could he have known I'd be scavenging in here? He fixed his posture, crossing his arms in the process. That lovely, lovely, idiot.

verb
{ Whelve: To bury amidst yourself. Hiding behind your own thoughts and feelings will still leave yourself in the end. }
Another day, another load of thinking. Miles had already done his paperwork for the day, what now? The question floated around his head, only a few conclusions coming to mind. Could possibly go home. Could find more work to do. I could sit around my office. I could go visit Wright. The prosecutor sat up straight in his chair. Wright? He had just stayed at his house the past night, why could he possibly want to go back?
Thinking back, he had a lot more to ask Phoenix than what he had actually inquired. What is with all the flowers that I have received? Why were they given to me specifically? How could he have known my favorites?
Jumbled with thoughts, Edgeworth rested his head in his hands. It doesn't make sense. Wright can't be that smart, right?
゚+*:;;:* *:;;:*+゚
Miles looked out of his window the entire time, trying to find the perfect time to leave and avoid Phoenix. The time was 8 PM, there were no more cars or people around; this was Edgeworth's chance. He swiftly grabbed his belongings and made his way to the exit. Surely he wouldn't run into Phoenix. Not a chance!
“Oh… Hey, Edgeworth!” Miles’ heart dropped. “What are you doing off so late?”
“Well, err..” What the fuck do I say? “I was just.. um..” Think, Edgeworth! THINK! “I had some.. unfinished work. Yeah, a few missed papers, perhaps.”
“Quite reasonable. I often have papers that I miss every now and then. It's overwhelming and-” Phoenix paused, a melancholy look growing on his face. “I.. I'm sorry, I went on for a bit longer than I should've.” He nervously chuckled.
“Yes… Ahem, pardon me, Wright, but I must get going..”
“Wait, Edgeworth..” Miles looked at Phoenix concerningly. “I… I have something to give you.” He handed Miles a small black box.
“Thank you. I will look inside once I arrive home. Take care, Wright.”
“You too, Miles.” Edgeworth stopped dead in his tracks.
“Would you mind coming with me?”
“Well, can I ask why?”
“I have a few questions that I must have answered.”
“I don't see a problem with that.” Phoenix paused, thinking intently. “Although, I'm not sure how I'd get back to my place. After all, it is across town.” A very scheming smile stuck to his face.
Miles sighed. “You can stay at my place, just for the night. Now we must be heading out now. I need to prepare a meal.” Edgeworth gestured to his car, letting Wright get in the vehicle first.
“So, er, Edgeworth.. What questions did you want to ask?” The defense attorney awkwardly chuckled.
“I will discuss them once we arrive at my apartment.” Miles murmured. That God forsaken Phoenix Wright. I can never seem to catch a break from him. The man had a tense look on his face. It's only a few questions. Nothing unexpected could occur, right? His face grew more tense. Especially with that man, nothing could go out of the ordinary. He relaxed his expression, trying to focus more on the road rather than THE, quite awfully amazing, Phoenix Wright. Amazing? Miles ignored his word choice, putting it off as a problem for later. I must stay focused on driving.
*・゚゚・*:.。..。.:*゚:*:✼✿
“Here we are, Wright. Make yourself at home.”
“Thank you, Edgeworth.”
“You have no need to thank me. I'm only trying to do you some good considering how much you've done for me.” Miles walked to his bathroom door, looking back at Phoenix. “The bedroom is down the hallway and to the left. You may stay there for the night.” He paused thinking of what else to say. “I should also mention that this is the bathroom. Feel free to use it.”
Phoenix nodded his head. “Where're you gonna sleep?” The prosecutor was a bit stunned. I wasn't prepared.
“Ahem… I will find somewhere, it is not of your concern.” Phoenix looked at him with a face that said “You sure?”. Edgeworth felt a bit taunted. “In all actualities.. I have only the couch to sleep on.” Phoenix looked quite concerned for Miles. They both stared blankly at one another, silence growing heavier.
“Well..”
“Hm?”
“Why not.. just sleep in your bed?”
“What a silly question, Wright. You amuse me. Because you are staying there.”
“Miles, we did this just last night. It wouldn't kill you to sleep in the same bed as your best friend again, right?” Wright. His persuasive argument sent Miles through a small rabbit hole. The possibilities that could happen while sleeping in the same bed as that man again were endless; especially with what happened the past night.
Miles sighed. “It isn't a terrible idea. I guess it'll have to do with the situation at hand.” He sassily crossed his arms and finally walked into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him.
Once he was finished, he slightly glared at Wright. “And Phoenix,” His cheeks burned. “If you are in need of spare clothes, take some from the closet. There's plenty.”
“Yes, sir!” Phoenix playfully cheered. Miles immediately turned the opposite direction of the lawyer. Why is he always like this? It's very.. charming, per se. He strutted to the bedroom, quietly scoffing in amusement.
Edgeworth dug through his closet, searching for proper sleep attire. I can't look just any way for this occasion, I need to be clean cut with my options. Eventually, he chose a pair of sweatpants and a short sleeve shirt to sleep in.
“Wright, we should get to sleep. I still have work in the morning.” Miles yelled from the bedroom, busy making the bed.
“Okay! I'll go find some clothes.. I guess…” Phoenix walked to the closet, skimming through the various options of what he could wear. “You own shorts?”
“Indeed I do. Some days are just a bit warmer than expected.” Phoenix shrugged. He thoughtfully decided he would wear the shorts and some random Steel Samurai T-shirt he had found.
“The bed is ready if you want to lay down, Wright.” Once Phoenix heard that, he rushed to the bed, trying not to ruin the neatly laid out blanket arrangement. Both men lied down, facing opposite directions of each other.

“Is your hair just naturally spiky like that?” Miles asked.
“I guess so. It has always been this way; you should know!..haha….” They fell silent once again. “What's with the random question?”
“Just curious. Never seen you without that insensible hair style.”
“It's not insensible! It's just… different.” Phoenix said, running his fingers through his hair. This man is ridiculous. (I love him.) Miles heaved a small sigh.
“Wright…”
“.. Yes?”
“Why are you giving me those flowers?” What a jump from one topic to the next, Phoenix thought to himself.
“Well… I guess I knew they were your favorites. So I planted them to give to you. They took months to grow!” He lightly laughed. “Y'know, I really do love you.”
“I love you as a friend too, Wright.” Miles’ heart pounded. That was too close. God forsaken Phoenix Wright.
“Well… er, yeah!” Phoenix paused. “Goodnight, Edgeworth..”
“Goodnight to you as well.” Miles shut his eyes and pretended as though he wasn't insufferably in love with Phoenix. What can I do? I love that man.

{ Desiderium: Longing for a person that may never come. Desiring for something that had once been lost. }
As Miles had awoken, his mind immediately woke up with racing, jumbled thoughts. He wasn't particularly the type to be so mentally messy, but winter was a hard season, a long one at that.
Before he could even fully begin to open his eyes, he felt the essence of a warm body laying next to him. How odd. He had no memory of what happened the night before. Only his imagination could get him an explanation, and yet, there was still no conclusion. Miles reached for his glasses on the object-barren nightstand, shuffling to quickly put them on. Once he had properly set them on the bridge of his nose, he immediately noticed the presence of a man, heavily sleeping. He flinched. Wright? W..Why is he here? When those thoughts were fully processed, everything came rushing back.
‘I really do love you.’
His ears flushed. Could that mean..? No. No, no, no. That would be utterly ridiculous. Miles stared at Phoenix, observing all the constant movements of his restless body.
His breathing is oddly fast.
He sleeps like a baby.
He softly snores and groans in his sleep.
Many thoughts ran through his head. So much so he hadn't even finished the last thought before staring at Wright.
Is Wright actually in love with me? He rested his hand on his chin. Ah, I see. It's a prank. Miles’ body tensed. Why would he do that? His breathing slowed, almost completely stopping. Would he really be that careless of me? His shoulders slowly dropped. But… we've known of each other the last 15 years. He wouldn't do something like this would he?
The man got out of his bed, quickly heading towards the restroom. Washing his face with water, he stood and stared at his reflection. The last few days, he's been giving me gifts non stop. Was this all one big joke for some ulterior motive? All thoughts silenced. He kept staring at himself, only thinking about that one possibility. He didn't feel anything towards it. He didn't feel mad, he didn't feel sad, he didn't feel confused, he felt nothing. Miles felt his eyes growing heavier, lightly welling with tears. He did nothing except watch the numbing droplets run down his face. It wasn't like he was crying, but he just felt something that he couldn't have explained before.
Once he was about to start preparing for a morning shower, he heard a thump from his bedroom. Immediately panicked, he ran to the sound.

“Auuuugh… Hey, Edgeworth.” Phoenix was lying on the floor with over half of the blanket with him. He only laid there not making an effort to try and get up, “I just need a minute. Really hurt my back.” He lightly chuckled.
“This is no laughing matter, you are clearly hurt. But, as you wish; I will leave you on the floor.” Edgeworth walked away, tightly grabbing his left arm. Whilst walking, he couldn't help but notice how tight his chest felt. He felt so overwhelmed with the feeling of - what seemingly - was nothing and the feeling of love. It burned through him like a forest fire in the winter.
He didn't know what to think of this. When he made it to his bathroom, he started his shower and waited for it to warm up. On a whim, he sat on the floor, his head lying in his arms. Should I confront him about it? Miles sorted through many different emotions thinking about all the conclusions that could come out if this very decision. Even so, he thought it would be best for the both of them to get the issue resolved and over with.
Stepping into the shower, his mind filled with many doubts. Is he going to make fun of me for not realizing sooner? Is it all a misunderstanding? Does he hate me? He couldn't even believe himself. Miles Edgeworth, famed prosecutor, worrying over a boy. Specifically, a lousy defense lawyer. He pinched the bridge of his nose. Wright. It was so ridiculous in fact, the prosecutor started laughing at himself. These ridiculous feelings, this ridiculous crush, Edgeworth couldn't believe it. He concluded his shower with a final decision. He would be confronting Wright about everything.
✧༺♥༻✧
“Wright, can we.. ah… talk?”
“Sure, I guess.. Is there something wrong?”
“I will tell you in a moment… but.. would you mind getting off the floor?”
“Oh, yeah!” Phoenix laughed. “Completely slipped my mind!”
“So er, Wright… Do you happen to recall.. you know.. any sort of words you might've said to me last night?”
“You mean the ‘I love you’?” Miles froze. How did he know exactly what I was talking about?
“Ahem… Indeed.”
“What about it? If you want me to never say it again, that's completely understandable.”
“That's not what I meant.” Phoenix flashed a confused expression. “Did you-” Miles sighed. “Did you really mean it..?”
“W-well.. of course. Why else would I say it?” Phoenix replied calmly.
“I was just.. thinking. Would you, perhaps, lie to me for some stupid bet? Would you spoil me with an overload of gifts just for some ulterior motive? Would you even sleep with me just to have your way?”
“Whuh- Why would I-”
“Would you completely manipulate me just so you can say ‘I made Miles Edgeworth fall in love with me’?”
The room fell silent. The prosecutor started shaking; he was just as surprised as Phoenix with the words that came out of his mouth.
“Edgeworth.. we've known each other for over 15 years.”
“That doesn't change the fact that it can happen. Was the whole thing a facade? Was it a game?”
“No not at all- why are you…. why are you being like this?”
“Because I want the truth, Wright.”
“Well I am giving you the truth.”
“How can I be sure? What if this is another lie?”
“Why? Why would this be another lie-”
“Well because… because it's you-”
“What did I ever do? I have only given- Edgeworth.. *sigh* I- I don't understand. Okay? I don't understand why you continue to resent me and I have done so much for you-”
“Maybe because I have only continued to get hurt when I become so vulnerable-”
“Well that's not my fault, is it? Have I ever done that to you? You can't keep living your life like this!”
“Yes I can, Wright. And I will continue to do so-”
“Think about this more, if you live your life in fear of getting hurt how will you ever experience anything?”
“Because my fear is all I have.” Miles grabbed onto his arm. “I.. I must get going. I must get to my office. If you would.. excuse me.” The man grabbed tightly onto his briefcase and ran out the door.
♥*♡∞:。.。
“What were you thinking, Miles?! Arguing with Wright?” Edgeworth yelled to himself, cupping his hands over his eyes. It was precisely apparent that he would get no work done because of this.
He sat at his desk trying to fulfill the empty papers and yet, there came nothing. Miles was extremely frustrated. He stared out the window blinds, gazing upon the snow-burdened roads. I wonder if he got home safely. He felt his cheeks burn. That man couldn't go a moment without thinking of him. His face tensed. He must've gotten home safely. Right? Miles began to worry. He couldn't convince himself that Phoenix was safe, he could only come up with the fact that he probably hurt himself, or got kidnapped, or got lost, or just anything that would be bad. The prosecutor was very much inclined to call him. No. I mustn't. We already started with troubles, I don't want to end with troubles. He set his phone down and picked up his pen once more to at least try and finish one paper. His hand shakily moved towards the paper, very slow and yet very tense. He…. He couldn't. He couldn't write anything. His eyes had stayed glued to his phone the entire time. Edgeworth deeply sighed. “Fine. I'll call him.” He picked his phone back up, staring at Phoenix's contact. Unsure about his decision he slowly made his way to the call button. Why can't he just call him already? Very good question.
He eased his way to confidence, slowly becoming more sure in his answer. Before he knew it, there was somebody calling him. It was Phoenix. Miles jumped and quickly tended to the call.
‘Hey, Edgeworth..’
“Wright. What is it?”
‘Are you still working?’
“I was just finishing up.” He blatantly lied.
‘I.. We really need to talk. Could you please come? I am still at your house.’
“Of course. I will be there in about 20 minutes.”
‘Okay, thank you.’
Miles was shook. He never even went home? It was quite predictable considering that the weather was all snow storms for that day. I should've called sooner.
And with that, Edgeworth rushed home, not wanting to let Wright down. He drove reasonably fast, very eager to see that man again. He felt stupid and strong about his argument, he wanted to prove himself right, and prove Wright wrong. Once he got home he slammed the door open. There he was, laying on the couch in the same clothes he had slept in the night before.
“Hello, Wright.”

{ Orphic: He was beyond ordinary understanding. So mysterious and yet just the loveliest kind of entrancing. }
“Hello, Wright.”
“Hello… I.. well, er..”
“On with it.”
“Yes! I am.. sorry for staying so late…” Edgeworth looked at Phoenix questionably.
“Is that it? Is that what I was called here for?”
“Well, I do have more… like a lot more.” Wright sighed. “Miles,” Edgeworth's cheeks brightened a bit. “You can't keep running away from the truth. Even if it seems unbelievable, it's still true… I did say “I love you”.”
The prosecutors glare eased. “But Wright… You have no reason to love me.” Phoenix's eyebrows furrowed a bit. “I am the same person that left you for over a decade; what is so “lovely” about me?”
“Do you know what I see in you that is so “lovely”? I see my best friend that I've loved for so long it kind of hurts. I see the same best friend that was so strong during every thing he had gone through. Why-... urr… why can't you just accept your own thoughts for a change?” Wright grabbed onto the back of his neck, sighing nervously. “You can't keep driving yourself insane with constant, irrational thoughts. So why don't you tell me your actual thoughts?” Miles pinched the bridge of his nose, his eyes closing tightly. “Edgeworth, please just listen to me this once.. Why? Why is it that I've known almost nothing about you and you've known so much about me-”
“Because maybe it would hurt you more than it would hurt me.” Both men stared blankly at each other. “Wright, I'm just…” He briefly paused. “I'm unsure-”
“What is there to be unsure about?” Phoenix objected, his expression very pitiful. “You drive yourself crazy and then you stick onto these little things. I want you to enjoy yourself a little for once.”
“Wright..”
“Do you have any idea how badly I want to help you? You resent me, Edgeworth.”
“Wright…”
“And don't even start on the fact that you're unlovable. You are just as beautiful and much more than just love.” Phoenix's face flushed as he grabbed the back of his neck.
Silence filled the air as Miles stared coldly towards Phoenix. He walked towards the defense lawyer, fists clenched.
“Phoenix..” A sharp string of cold air fell between the both of them as Edgeworth slumped into Wright's arms.
...
...
“Um…Edge..worth?” Miles immediately stood straight up.
“Ahem… My apologies, Wright. Please allow me to take you home for the night.” He awkwardly glanced down at his shoes. Why did that rhyme? Moving on, he walked towards his front door, gesturing that Phoenix should come too.
“Thank you.. but…”
“But what?”
“I'll just walk. It's only about 15 minutes.”
“Wright. It's practically a blizzard out there, you will get ill if I do not drive you.” He argued. Phoenix gave a very unsure look.
.・゜゜・
Completely defeated, Phoenix had (expectantly) accepted Miles's offer. They rode in the car, silently waiting for Phoenix's destination.
Once they had arrived, only awkward goodbyes filled the vehicle.
“So, er, Miles, I left some stuff on your nightstand. Feel free to do whatever with it. I'll see you some other time, okay?”
“Goodnight to you too.”
Phoenix walked off, his feet heavier with each step. What am I going to do with him? The question repeated in Edgeworth's head. What was he going to do? He kept insisting to himself that there was no way Wright loved him and yet it seemed as though the warmest he had ever felt would be with him. That man made Miles feel bright. A certain bluffing defense lawyer made Miles feel like a lovesick schoolgirl. Phoenix Wright made Miles feel something he had never known he wanted.
He knew what he was going to do with him. Miles Edgeworth would admit to his feelings.
How will you do that? You can't even admit when you're wrong.
Shush.
Driving back home, Miles contemplated how he would go about his “confession”. He never had to experience this in his lifetime, not until now.
He could take Phoenix on some cheesy, dinner date. Or perhaps he could go simple and buy some flowers… although Phoenix had already been growing flowers. Possibly bring a gift to accommodate the confession? Sounds like a lot of trouble. Bring him to a place he would enjoy? Not sure of any places. A scenic view? Complicated. Love letter? Too much thinking, not enough time. There wasn't much left he could do. Just wing it? Best option there is.
.・。.・゜✭・
Edgeworth laid in his bed, desperately trying to fall asleep. The revolting thoughts in his head only kept him awake. All he could think about is Wright.
“Wright… Wright…… Wright.” He whispered to himself. His hands rested under his pillow, almost as if they were reaching for something. Eventually, they did find something. A little black box. Wonder what this could be. It was painfully obvious what it could be. Phoenix had done this every single day; it was reminiscent of a scavenger hunt. He sat up in his bed and opened the box. A red chrysanthemum. There was no note this time, only the crimson flower that laid before him. Of course he wanted to look closer to see if there was a secret message, so he reached for his glasses in his nightstand. His hands came to another object. Another box. He opened this box and it was… another chrysanthemum. Strange. There still wasn't a note along with these “presents”. He reached for his glasses once more and slowly put them on. His nightstand was full of these tiny black boxes. What the actual fuck.
Miles scavenged through each and every box, and found one note out of nine boxes. At this point, he might as well stay up all night; who needs sleep anyway?
‘Miles! I know things are a bit awkward between us right now, and I only hope the best for you as you're struggling. Have a good day… or good night.’
Phoenix Wright
The prosecutor softly smiled. Wright. What am I going to do with you?

Chapter Text
noun
{ Love: An unexpected feeling of desire and selflessness. Something that you can never force and never stop. Miles Edgeworth now has business in the realm of “love”. }
Edgeworth sat in his office the next morning, absolutely fatigued. The man that stirred up all his emotions made him lose sleep as well. It very much concerned him. Why should he be losing sleep over Phoenix Wright? Sure, Miles loved him, but did Phoenix really feel the same way? Did Phoenix stay up all night thinking about the possibility of being with Miles? Would he drive himself up and down the wall at the idea of loving Miles? Edgeworth didn't know, and maybe he wouldn't ever know. All that was certain was that they loved each other, uncertainty in if it was the same way or not.
Miles slumped in his chair, holding tightly onto case documents written from long ago. Even with glasses sitting on his nose, he could barely read the words in front of him. Shouldn't have stayed up all night. He rubbed his heavy eyes before drifting into the “eternal” sleepiness.
…
.. Mr. Edgeworth?...
.. MR. EDGEWORTH?!...
.. MR EDGEWORTH!!!...
“Hm?”
“Oh, you're alive, Pal!”
“Detective Gumshoe… What is it that you need?”
“Well, er, I was told to give you a message, sir.”
…
…
“Which is?”
“Right! It was from that one defense lawyer! Penix Sprite was it?”
“Phoenix Wright.”
“He said that he wanted to talk to you. He's downstairs, bottom floor.”
“Thank you, Detective.”
“No problem, Pal!”
Of course he was here. Right when Miles was about to have consultations with himself about Phoenix. Even with his frustration, he trotted down the stairs.
There he was, in all of his “glory”: Phoenix Wright, accompanied by his assistant, Maya Fey; a beginner spirit medium.
“Nick, why are we here right now? To see your boyfriend?” She asked, impatience clear in her stance.
“Maya! He's not my boyfriend!”
“Ahem… Wright. You wanted to see me?”
“Oh, uh, yeah! So… er.. would you..” Edgeworth raised an eyebrow at the unfinished sentence.
Maya loudly sighed. “I think he's trying to ask you out-”
“MAYA! I AM NOT!” Phoenix interrupted. “As I was saying… Edgeworth… would you.. would you like to get coffee sometime?”
“He's asking you ou-”
“Maya.” Edgeworth held in his laughs, hoping not to amuse the young girl.
“What time would this take place at?” Miles asked.
“Would tomorrow work? 5 PM?”
“I don't see why not.” Edgeworth turned his back towards Phoenix, shoulders relaxed. “Call it a date.” He quickly walked back upstairs before the embarrassment could set onto him. When he got back to his office, he canceled all plans made for tomorrow at 5 PM. Why was he doing this? To see that “emotionally-inclined airhead” of course.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
It was the day; Miles’ “date”. He was, what you could call, a wreck. He wasn't exactly anxious but he definitely wasn't ecstatic. It was more like he was scared. Scared of what? That was the thing, he wasn't scared of anything, he just felt scared.
He didn't know what his issue was. It was just a “date” no big deal. In all honesty, Miles had never been on a date. The cards weren't in his favor romantically. In his childhood, he would only focus on studying to be a prosecutor. Such a surprise. With his workaholic attitude and lack of social understanding, he never was interested in anyone… until now. Oh god.. the one man I could possibly hate the most.
Edgeworth was like a lovesick school girl. Any thought of Phoenix would make his chest tight, breaths quicken, and heart race. Even just upon hearing his name he would start to freak out.
The man pinched the bridge of his nose. Get over it, Miles. It will be over in the blink of an eye. Maybe he was right. Maybe it would be the quickest thing he would ever deal with. Or maybe, just maybe, it would be the longest, most confrontational, most life changing event he would encounter. But who knows? Not him.
As Miles checked around the house, he stared at the pile of “gifts” given to him by Wright. Is it a symbol? He's asked himself this question many many times, but this time was different. He started to think there was a meaning to it, but late enough as he was, he couldn't research. Getting to his plans on-time-but-not-really was more important than those sentimental flowers.
.・゜-: ✧ :-
20 minutes passed by, still no sign of Edgeworth. Phoenix was perspiring. His intense sweating made him extremely nervous. Did he flunk out on me? No, no, no, that couldn't be. They've slept in the same bed, they've been flirting with each other in court for years, they've done every possible thing a couple could do. Phoenix, calm down. He's bound to show up eventually. Right? He took a big, deep breath. What if he hates me? What if me confronting him the other day made him uncomfortable? We're the gifts too much? Oh god. He definitely fucking flunked-
“Wright!” Phoenix perked his head up. “Wright, I apologize. I had some issues with the housework, per se.”
“Oh, no worries.” There were lots of worries. “I can go get the coffee-”
“No, no. Let me, I was late so it should be my duty.” Miles swiftly got out of his seat and walked to the counter.
Phoenix couldn't stop staring at him. The way his black turtleneck stuck to his stature while his trench coat drooped down from his shoulders, he looked so elegant. So sexy. He looked away, not fazed by the internal comment he made.
Edgeworth walked back to the table. “I paid for both drinks.”
“Edgeworth, you didn't have to. I can pay you back.. or I can do you a favor?”
“No need. I have enough money, unlike you.” Phoenix felt a bit offended but even so he chuckled. “Any who, the drinks will be out any minute.” The lawyers sat in awkward silence, both wallowing in self pity. “Why did you ask me to come here?” Edgeworth asked.
“Well.. I just-” Phoenix deeply sighed. “I just needed to talk to you.” He always seemed like an incomprehensible airhead and yet right now he seemed serious. He looked serious.
…
“About?”
“I just… I need to know- urr…” Edgeworth raised an eyebrow at Phoenix's speaking spectacles. “What… What exactly are we?”
“Wright, what do you mean?”
“You know… like.. we shared a bed.. we've practically had a flirtatious rivalry for years on end.. I even confessed to you! I'm just- I'm just confused. I want to know what all of this makes us.” Phoenix's eyebrows furrowed. He was really serious about this.
Edgeworth opened his mouth but no words came out. “I.. I don't know.” They stared blankly at each other.
Both men didn't know their relationship status. Were they friends? Were they lovers? Maybe the answer was unclear.
“Y-you don't know either?”
“No I do not, Wright.”
Before they could have a real conversation about this, the barista called Miles’ name. “You paid so I might as well get the drinks.” Phoenix left the table, leaving Edgeworth to think about their short drabble.
He needed to confess to Phoenix.
When Phoenix arrived back at the table with the two drinks, Edgeworth spoke up. “Wright.. I.. I am- Ugh.” He sighed. “You're an interesting man.”
Phoenix's face filled with confusion. “Thank you?”
“That's not what I meant..”
“What did you mean then?”
The man sighed again. “Just forget it. You'll learn eventually.” Wright tilted his head, raising an eyebrow at the other man. “Wright,” Why did he say it like that? “I… I love you.” Did he not just say to “forget it”? Ignoring the obvious contradiction, Phoenix widened his eyes and dropped his jaw.
“Miles, did you- did you really just-”
“I did. Take it or leave it.”
“Well I'm taking it.” Don't say it. “Can I take you?” Gosh darn it, Phoenix. You're better than this!
“...”
“...”
“Ugh. I suppose.” Phoenix's face formed into that stupid, perky grin. Miles looked away, trying not to get too embarrassed.
“Shall we leave then and ‘hang out’?”
“Yes, you can stay the night. No need to puppy-beg.” Phoenix pumped his fist in the air. Miles attempted not to chuckle but failed as he smiled. “Oh, um, Wright,” He coughed. “How did you get here?”
“Oh, I walked!”
“You what?”
“I.. walked..?”
“It's a blizzard out there! How could you even see?”
“I had a magical wand to help me.”
“...Are you feeling ill?”
“I'm joking!” Phoenix started giggling while Miles pinched the bridge of his nose.
“We will drive to my home. I don't need you getting sick now that we've started dating.”
“Wait, wait, wait. W-we, as in us, are dating?”
“Yes? I thought we mentally agreed after I came out.” Phoenix's cheeks turned red. “Come on, let's get going, Phoenix.”
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*
Once they arrived at Edgeworth's home, Wright jumped right onto the couch.
“Uaaagh, your couch is so comfortable, I just don't want to get up.”
“Then I will come to you. Let me grab some blankets, it was quite cold outside.”
Phoenix turned on the TV looking for something actually interesting to watch. In the end, he only found the Steel Samurai series. He didn't necessarily like it but it was the only thing that wasn't George Lopez.
“I am back. I found this big, thick one we can share.”
“Sounds good.”
Miles laid the blanket on Phoenix's lap before sitting down, spreading out the blanket, and laying down on his lap. Wright tensed up a little.
“This was my favorite show as a kid. You should know, we were best friends.”
“I remember you forcing me to binge watch every season with you. Still to this day I don't remember any episode whatsoever.” Edgeworth chuckled.
“Miles, so you think we're moving our relationship a bit fast?”
“Do you not like it?”
“No, I do like it. I love it, in fact. I just want to make sure it's okay with you.”
“Well if I'm honest with you, I felt like we've been dating since the start of your career. Not literally, but there was always this tension I couldn't get off of my chest. It's because I loved you, Phoenix. And I still do.” Miles grasped onto Phoenix's hand. “I am so lucky to meet you again.”
Wright smiled at him lovingly. “I am so lucky too. I love you, Miles. I've been saying it for so long.”
“W-what do you mean?”
“Those flowers, they meant ‘I love you’ in the Victorian era.”
“I didn't know you were so smart. Congratulations, Wright.”
“What?!”
“I am only joking.” Miles chuckled. “I wish to return those flowers to you someday.” He leaned up from the other man's lap to peck him in the cheek. Phoenix's face flushed. Immediately after, Phoenix leaned down to kiss him on the lips. Then he did it again. And again. And again. This cycle went on until he manned up enough to make out with the other man. Less than 12 hours they had been dating and already letting their emotions run wild. Years of repressed feelings must've been like a prison. Maybe it was meant to end this way. Maybe it wasn't. In the end, they loved each other, and that's all that mattered.

{Romance: The emotional circumstance of mystery and compassion in the meanings of love.}
Shortly after their romantic get together, something extremely big happened. Phoenix was going to propose; In the “Wright” fashion of course.
One faithful afternoon inside the home of the lawyers, they decided to celebrate their one-year anniversary of becoming boyfriends. Instead of going out anywhere, they merely trotted to the grocery store next door. It wasn't a long walk so they would be warm in no time!
“Dear, go run around while I take care of the shopping. I don't need you picking out the worst apples known to man.”
“Oh come on, Miles, Granny Smith's aren't that bad!”
“I do not want to hear any of that. Now, shoo shoo.” Edgeworth flapped his hand towards Phoenix, waving him off before he could get another word in.
Quite usually, Phoenix would be the one shopping. Apparently his “not-so-great” taste in fruit was underwhelming. From unripe bananas to overdue oranges, he just couldn't get any luck with his produce. This time, Miles had offered Phoenix a bit of “help”, per se.
Whilst Edgeworth had gone to acquire some good fruits, Wright snuck into the self checkout and bought himself a ring pop. Why would he do that? You may be wondering… the answer is not quite so clear. Okay, maybe just a bit see-through. No, no, it was translucent. Obviously he would be proposing to Miles with this “ring”. Although it may be fake, it was the thought that counts.
Afterwards, Wright wandered all over the store, on a mission to find his princess in shining armor. In a few short minutes, he was able to find him in the produce aisles.
“Miles!”
“Hello, Dear. Did you find anything for yourself?”
“No, nothing for myself. Can we buy some granny smi-”
“Absolutely not.”
Phoenix sighed. His destiny to reach the (sickening) lime green apples had failed. Miles lightly slapped his arm, a sign that he shouldn't be so upset over a fruit.
*+:。.。 。.。:+*
Making their way into the home, Phoenix carried all the groceries to the kitchen. Once he had time to settle, he neatly assorted them into their respectful places. Produce in the fridge, bags of about anything in the pantry, pizza rolls in the freezer. Everything was just right.
Miles sat on the couch, practically falling asleep. This could be the perfect opportunity.
Obviously this was a terrible idea. Proposing to your boyfriend while he's just about to fall asleep? Who knows what he could say.
“Miles?” Wright called out quietly.
“...”
“Miles?”
“Hm? What is it?”
“Can we.. um- er, talk… for a moment?”
“Of course.” Phoenix quickly made his way to the couch, reluctantly sitting next to Edgeworth.
“So- uh… you know I really love you… right?”
“Yes I do. What is your point?”
“I was just thinking… well- um.. we could, err, take a step forward. L-like, um..”
“Wright.”
“Right! So like I was saying… maybe you would be, um.. interested in…”
“In?”
Phoenix reached into his pants pocket for the “ring”, shaking heavily in the process.
“Maybe you would, uh… like to…. marry me?” He pulled out the packaging and gestured it towards Miles.
“Are you serious?”
“Wait are you saying you don-”
“I would love to marry you.”
“Really?”
“Of course, Dear. What reasons do I have not to?”
“Probably quite a few-”
“None, Wright. None.”
Edgeworth brushed Phoenix's stray hairs, clearly feeling very proud of the growth they made together.
Wright opened the ring pop packaging, revealing the raspberry colored ring inside. He slowly took it out and slid the ring onto the other man's ring finger. He smiled at Miles, awkwardly glancing all around.
“Do you, Miles Edgeworth, promise to love me forever?”
“I do.”
“And give me all the granny smith apples I want?”
“That is still a no.” Phoenix scoffed.
“And do you, Phoenix Wright, promise to love me forever?”
“I sure do.” They both chuckled to themselves and then slowly, and softly kissed.
When Miles opened his eyes, he saw Phoenix crying. He tried his best to wipe away his tears but they just wouldn't stop.
“Why are you crying? What is it that's bothering you?”
“I-it’s nothing. I just… I'm so happy that you love me. It feels like I would have never started my life without you.”
“I don't think I could've started mine without you either.”
Whatever tomorrow held, they would get through it together. A swan and a duck, so different but one in the same. A pair of mismatching socks, they still held the same goal. A couple of lovers, only wanting to have the embrace of being warm on an eternal winter's night. What else could they ask for except to be loved?
adverb
{Forever: An eternity of loving you.}
