“Uh Jet, there’s something we should maybe talk about,” Zuko said and looked nervous. Jet was immediately on alert, even if he wasn’t that relationship savvy he knew that ‘we need to talk’ was not a good thing.
“About what?”
“Well, I mean. After you left I wasn’t really sure where you had gone. So I tried to reach out to some people, it was just to make sure you were fine! I wasn’t trying to stalk you or monitor you or anything like that!” Zuko explained.
“Zuko, what did you do.” Jet’s voice was flat and he could already tell that whatever Zuko was about to say would probably annoy him.
“I tried to write to your friends in Ba Sing Se,” Zuko said, sounding like a child being scolded.
“What.” Jet’s mind was suddenly blank. He’d talked to Smellerbee and Longshot?
“Yeah, they uhh, they didn’t take it so well? And I tried to explain, but I think they might be under the impression that I kidnapped you? And I kind of need you to answer them so they won’t attack my uncle.”
Zuko seemed a little frantic holding what was now becoming clear to Jet was letters and Jet was gaping at him. What the fuck.
“I really can’t leave you alone for five minutes can I?”
“Sorry.”
Jet drew a hand over his face, “Okay fine, let me see what they said.”

Jet has stayed with me since fall, but we parted ways now. He was not well when he arrived, but is in better health now. Please let me know if you hear from him. I just want to know that he is okay , nothing else. If you see him you can return a message to the man who gave you this letter.

What did you do to Jet? Did you send him to get brainwashed again to make him like you? We know that Jet thinks you’re a firebender, there’s no way he would stay with you. And where do you even live now, cause we checked the new tea shop and there was only your uncle.
He said you had an “important job now and didn’t have time for tea anymore” which all sounds a lot like what the people working with the Dai Li says.
Even if you’re not a firebender like Jet thought, why should we trust that you are telling the truth and not just trying to get him arrested again to get a bounty. Like we would ever tell you where he is.
If you have been the reason for Jet’s disappearance we would just like you to know that we know where your uncle lives and you should be careful.

Dear Smellerbee and Longshot
I promise that I didn’t get him brainwashed, he showed up here on his own! It was admittedly because he wasn’t feeling so well and he did want to kill me in the beginning, but we sorted most of that out.
You don’t have to tell me where he is, I would just really like to know if he is all right, that is all. If you see him please tell him I’m sorry.
I do not work with the Dai Li, they are disbanded now. Jet was actually right about me being a firebender, but we talked about it and it’s mostly okay (at least I think so?). Please don’t attack my uncle, he has nothing to do with this.
I live in the Fire nation now, so I really don’t know where Jet is right now and even if he returns to Ba Sing Se, he might not have arrived yet. I’m pretty impressed he followed me all the way here to be honest, it’s a very long way and he wasn’t walking too well, but he is very strong.
I would also not want Jet to get arrested, that already happened when he tried to kill me and it was a lot of work to get him properly out of prison again.

Yeah right, the Dai Li are gone and we are stupid. No way anyone believes that.
I can’t believe that Jet was right and you’re actually a firebender. What do you mean you live in the Fire Nation? There is no way Jet would go there voluntarily, so we know you are lying about something. The only reason he would ever go there, would be to kill the Firelord.
If you don’t fess up in your next letter, we will have to go visit your uncle.
We might have wanted to go straight, but once a Freedom Fighter always a freedom fighter and we won’t let you have Jet!

Jet looked at Zuko in disbelief both at how bad Zuko was a digging the hole deeper when already in it, and the fact that he was dating this idiot.
