Work Text:
Has Megumi called Gojo dad before? Yes. Did he regret it instantly afterwards? Yes. Did Gojo make fun of him for it afterwards? Well he’s Gojo so who doesn’t know the answer to that question. He’s never called him dad often, but it was hard not to every now and then. He was the closest thing that he had to a parent whether he liked it or not and whether he liked it or not Gojo seemed like he had no intention of going away so that never helped him.
“Do we have to do another one?” Nobara yelled from across the field and Megumi found himself agreeing with her, this was beginning to become daunting. Gojo currently had them running laps for no good reason and he wasn’t too keen about it all.
“Yep! Gotta keep that stamina up!” Gojo shouted casually, pumping his fist into the air as if to cheer them on. Easy for you to say Megumi thought with an eye roll. Usually he wouldn’t be so tired running laps, but they’ve been running around all day.
Yuuji on the other hand seems like he’s barely broken a sweat, he’s panting a little sure but that’s about it. Other than that there’s a smile on his face as he pushes ahead of the two of them.
“Passed you Kugisaki!” Yuuji shouted and–he shouldn’t have done that. Megumi moves to the side casually, watching as Nobara runs quite frankly faster than Megumi’s ever seen her run and straight towards Yuuji.
“Get back here Itadori!” Her shout can be heard and Megumi stays where he is, looking at Gojo who doesn’t seem to care that he isn’t running, instead more focussed on whatever the hell is going on with Nobara and Yuuji, and by that he means Nobara trying to kill Yuuji. Although it isn’t going very well Megumi must say that he appreciates the effort to attempt it. Yuuji was the fastest guy in the school.
That probably said something about Megumi’s type being that of a preschool girl to boys who run fast but only he needs to know that.
“Alright you two! Let’s cut it out and back to class we go!” Gojo shouted, walking away from the scene. In the background Megumi could hear Nobara and Yuuji screeching like animals at each other. Sometimes he thinks that they are ones. He’d walk in on them ‘arguing’ and think that two raccoons were trying to eat each other alive outside. When he expressed this though Nobara always seemed mad at him.
But Nobara was always mad so he never thought too much about it.
He sat down at his desk, being the first one with Nobara and Yuuji following.
“I sat down first!” Nobara shouted, her voice thick with exhaustion.
“No fair! You got a head start,” Yuuji mumbled as he also took his seat.
Gojo is going on and on about how they did such a good job today and trying to critique them every now and then along with praising them. But in the end he starts talking about mochi and his favorite flavor. Honestly at this point Megumi isn’t even surprised, all of their classes end with an off topic conversation.
He, Nobara, and Yuuji have all agreed that if their conversation doesn’t go off topic then it's a curse.
Gojo wasn’t too happy when he found out about it, saying that he was doing his best to keep the conversation engaging and that that meant sometimes getting off track. Which was a lie because they always got off track.
“Alright! That’s it for today everyone! Byee!!” Gojo shouted suddenly, waving obnoxiously to the three of them.
“Bye Gojo-sensei!” Yuuji shouted in return walking out the door joyfully
“Yeah yeah, bye,” Nobara muttered, lazily getting up from her desk as she began getting up.
And Megumi…
Maybe his brain wasn’t working today. After all he was tired, he, Yuuji and Nobara had been fighting curses for who knows how long and after that Gojo thought that it would be a fun idea to make them run laps for no good reason. So in conclusion he wasn’t thinking straight, or more like he wasn’t thinking at all. Why does he think this? Because he doesn’t register the next few words that came from his mouth, and when he does he wishes he hadn’t.
“Bye dad,”
It takes him a moment to realize what the hell he just said, but he doesn’t need to take that long as Gojo’s already pretending to cry and Yuuji and Nobara are looking at him as if he just told him that he was gonna become a genocidal maniac, start killing all non-sorcerers and start calling everyone who couldn’t use jujutsu monkeys. Which he’s starting to think he should’ve said instead because what the fuck .
It’s embarrassing to call your teacher dad but when said teacher is Gojo that’s a whole other level of embarrassing.
“Dad?!” Nobara shouted, right in his ear actually and Megumi felt his face heating up, he opens his mouth to correct himself but Yuuji is quicker.
“Wait- does that mean I have to tell him that we’re-”
“Shut up!” Megumi shouted, already thinking of excuses to not make Gojo think on Yuuji’s statement for too long. The last thing he needed was Gojo in his love life.
Megumi turned to look at Gojo who’s hand was covering his mouth as he snickered maniacally. “You called me dad again!” Gojo said joyfully, throwing his hands up in the air and–is it too late to summon Mahoraga?
“Again?!” Nobara shouts–once again in his ear.
“Yeah! Megumi didn’t tell you that I raised him?” Gojo asked, and Megumi was about to correct him, really he was. But when he opened his mouth he couldn’t find the words to counter him. Gojo did raise them did he? He wants to say something but Nobara’s will to gossip is apparently stronger than any force on the face of the Earth.
“You raised Megumi? How much do we not know about you?!” Nobara turned to him and before Megumi could look away he felt Yuuji and Nobara pushing and pulling on his face, already demanding answers that he wouldn’t like to give them at the moment.
“I didn’t think it was that big of a deal-”
“Of course it is!” Yuuji shouted, and Megumi instantly grabbed him by his hoodie, pulling it over his head to get him to just shut up .
“You told them about the bullies but not about me?” Gojo exclaimed, and Megumi glared at him, silently thankful that he didn’t mention Tsumiki.
“I didn’t think it was important,” Megumi repeated again, this time sterner than the others. Which only made the pushing and pulling on his face worse as he tried to look away from them.
“Not important?! This idiot,” Nobara pointed to Gojo, “raised you and you didn’t think that that might be something worth mentioning?! How the hell are you still alive? Like how have you not been eaten by a curse already?!”
“I’m not that bad!” Gojo shouted in the background, Nobara turned around to him and pointed her finger accusingly at him.
“I’m surprised I haven’t died yet,” She hissed before turning back to Megumi, he wishes she would spend a little more time on Gojo. “Actually, I’m surprised that anyone would actually…” she drifted off, looking at Gojo up and down with a disgusted look on his face and Megumi would be amused but that meant that she was implying–
“He’s not my dad!” Megumi shouted, getting ready to walk away but sadly Nobara was adamant on not letting him go.
“You literally look the same- and you just called him dad!”
Megumi paled a little bit at that, he and Gojo did not look the same. He turned back around instantly and glared at Nobara. “We do not look the same at all-” he knew that smile. There was no way he just fell for Nobara’s trick, the oldest one in the book too.
“Oh but you do, hair and everything. He practically birthed you,” She said, pointing between the two of them.
“Aww, that’s adorable,” Gojo cooed and Megumi wanted to punch him the moment he spoke.
“Shut up, you’re not helping the situation,”
“Well can you blame me? It’s not every day that my son calls me dad,” Gojo asked innocently–and that’s it. He’s summoning it. “Besides, is this how you treat your mother? I carried you for nine months y’know,”
“Against my will-”
“He what?!”
Megumi needs to teach Nobara about using her inside voice more often. “He didn’t actually carry me-”
“Yes I did! You were a very heavy boy Megumi,”
Megumi raised his hands into fists and watched as Gojo’s snickering only furthered with the action. He’s really going to do it this time, better than dealing with this again.
“Come on, no need for such drastic measures,” Gojo cooed, putting his hands up.
“You didn’t ‘carry’ me like that. You just kept insisting on picking me up every day for nine months,” Megumi explained tensely, furrowing his eyes on the blind folded idiot currently in front of him. Why out of all people does he have to call Gojo ‘dad’.
“So? I still carried you,”
“No you didn’t!”
“I can’t believe you would undermine all of my hard work and labor Megumi,” Gojo wiped a fake tear from his blindfold.
“You two are both stupid,” Nobara muttered under her breath. Megumi looked at Nobara, giving her a confused glance and suddenly both Yuuji and Nobara burst out in a fit of laughter.
“They made the same face!” Yuuji shouted, his hand covering his mouth as he tried (and failed) to stifle his laughter.
“They really are the same!” Nobara shouted pointing to them.
Megumi looked back at Gojo and surely enough he was giving Nobara and Yuuji a confused glance. When he turned back to Megumi though it fell and almost instantly he held a shit eating grin.
“Megumi!”
“No,”
He was not in the mood for one of Gojo’s affectionate moods, sadly Gojo did not seem to notice or care as not even a second later and he was lifted off the ground with Gojo hugging the life out of him, as if he was trying to break his ribs.
“Aww, I love my ‘Gumi,” Gojo cooed, Megumi could feel Gojo’s hand ruffling his hair and when he tried to smack it away it was pointless as Gojo continued on with the onslaught of affection.
“Hah! Wait let me get a picture of this-” Nobara took out her phone and Megumi tried to get out of the hug, squirming more which sadly didn’t seem to work as Gojo only giggled and held him tighter, swinging him around like he was a toddler again.
“Kugisaki don’t-” Megumi was cut off by the idiot.
“Do it!”
A second later and Megumi heard the click of the camera and Gojo dropped him, going over to Nobara in order to see the photo. He cooed almost instantly looking over to Megumi with a smug expression on his face that Megumi wanted to see wiped clean off. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with this guy?
“It’s beautiful!” Gojo giggled, showing it to Megumi.
Megumi didn’t find it beautiful at all, he looked like a rabid animal in Gojo’s arms trying to escape or tear him apart. He watches as Yuuji leans over to look at the photo and giggles along with them.
“Aww you look so cute Fushiguro!” Yuuji compliments and all of the sudden Megumi gets the sudden urge to punch all three of them.
“It’s not cute!-”
“Do you guys wanna see child Megumi photos?” Gojo asked and before anyone could say anything he was already taking out his phone. Megumi ran over and pushed it down, glaring at Gojo.
“Okay- that’s enough,”
“Aww,”
Little did Megumi know that in the corner Yuuji was currently thinking about the morality of whether or not to tell a certain white haired man a certain something.
“Does that mean I need his blessing?” Yuuji asked and Megumi turned over to him in an instant.
Oh no.
“Wait- why would you need that?” Gojo asked, and Megumi instantly regretted everything. He tried to tell Yuuji to shut up again but apparently Gojo had different plans, he put his hand over his mouth and pulled Megumi into a hug in order to get him to shut up. Although the hug seemed like it was closer to a kidnapping than an actual proper hug.
“Cause me and Megumi are dating?” Yuuji’s voice was unsure and so innocent and while Megumi loved hearing Yuuji talk on and on, he really wanted to strangle him.
“Dating?!” Gojo shouted, Megumi bit his hand and heard Gojo give out a startled shout at the action. “You’re dating?” He asked again, looking between the two of them.
“Why wasn’t I informed of this- oh my god I put your dorms right next to each other,” Gojo mumbled suddenly looking horrified and oh, oh no .
“We don’t do that!” Megumi shouted, he could feel his face heating up, sadly it didn’t seem like Gojo heard his statement though.
“Do I need to give you two the talk ?” Gojo asked, looking horrified himself–and oh this wasn’t a good sign, not a good one at all.
“No!” Megumi shouted, yeah he was getting Yuuji and Nobara out of there instantly. He grabbed the two and shoved them out the door. He and Gojo needed to talk for a minute. Despite their protests, Megumi finally managed to shut the door on the two of them and he turned to face Gojo properly now.
“Y’know I wouldn’t judge you if you two did- I just need to make sure that you’re being safe-”
“Please shut up,” Megumi tugged his collar up to his face in order to hide it. He didn’t want to talk about this with him right now.
“Alright!” Megumi felt Gojo wrap his arm around him and pull him into a side hug. It was hard to forget that Gojo’s love language was touch. Megumi grabbed the hand that was wrapped over him and sighed, not having the energy to move it away.
“Why did you do that?”
“Do what?”
“Go along with their stupid bit?”
Gojo looked at him confused before laughing. “Why wouldn’t I? It’s not every day that you call me dad,” he said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Because it was and even though it was it was something that Megumi couldn’t choke down himself.
Not that he said it all the time but that he called Gojo dad .
It wasn’t fitting at all right?
He spent time with him and Tsumiki at their house, gave them groceries, stopped by on the weekend, played games with them, watched tv, hell he even helped Megumi and Tsumiki with their homework. But he wasn’t their dad. Their dad left them.
It was different.
“Doesn’t it make you uncomfortable?” Megumi asked after a while.
He watched Gojo’s expression for a minute, it seemed blank as if he was in fake deep thought. It was something that he would often do when Megumi asked him a question when he was younger. They both knew that Gojo knew the answer, but he was pretending to think about it just because he thought it was funny.
“Nope!” Gojo replied seconds after, his smile never faltered.
“Why?”
For a second he could’ve sworn that Gojo looked at him differently, that he looked at him at all through that stupid blindfold. He hated it, he hated not being able to see Gojo like he did when he was little and he just wore those stupid sunglasses instead. At least then he knew what he was looking at.
Gojo huffed out a small breath of laughter.
“Don’t worry about it,”
Megumi felt a familiar hand in his hair and sighed trying to fix it and keep it from being less spikey than usual. Gojo always liked it when it was spiky, Megumi never knew why. He watched as Gojo walked away for a moment, probably to go do something before stopping and turning around to face him.
“Oh yeah! About you and Yuuji,” Gojo said casually. “Don’t worry about it! It’s gonna work out between you two,”
Megumi looked up at him, he knew what Gojo was talking about.
The execution.
“How do you know?”
“Because I’m the strongest,”
For a moment the two of them stood like that, looking at each other before Gojo made the first move to break it. He turned back, raising his hand in goodbye. “Cya later ‘Gumi!” He didn’t even make it out the door before Megumi said the next few words.
Maybe he wasn’t thinking before. But he is now.
“Bye dad,”
