Why You Shouldn't Leave Klee Unsupervised In IKEA

Summary:

On another day of working at IKEA, Scaramouche watched from the sidelines as Klee, who's apparently a repeat offender when it comes to property damage, wrecks a part of the store. His annoyance only intensifies as Klee, the little rascal, tries to set her brother up with him.

Work Text:

He seriously hates this job.

At first, he thought that nothing could possibly be worse than his drug dealer just so happening to show up at his place of work. But alas, he couldn't have been any more wrong.

Everything had been fine, peaceful even. Until he had heard the most deafening crash (he’s slightly- no, a hundred percent sure he heard some explosions in there too.) This all led him to the current situation he’s in now.

"Kid, shouldn’t you be at school right now?" Scaramouche asked tiredly. He really wasn't paid enough to handle this, and babysitting a hazardous child was definitely not in his job description either.

The child, adorned in red as if any other colour would cause a fatal allergic reaction, sheepishly stared up at him. She was trying to hide the collateral damage behind her. Scaramouche felt a growing headache coming on. He's already been having a bad day already, and now a kid has just blown something up.

"Uhm… Klee didn’t mean to…" the little girl, apparently called Klee stammered out. Her hands clutching tightly to her backpack straps. She was probably about to say something to defend herself, but hesitated because she knew that she really couldn't defend herself with this big of a mess.

"Wait. Actually. Where the hell are your parents? There’s no way got here alone."

*  *  *

Albedo had only turned around for one second. But that one second was all Klee needed to start causing trouble. In a literal, actual, verbatim second after he turned around, Klee had somehow managed to run off and wreak havoc in a completely different section of the store.

After a while of frantic and panicked running, he let out a tired breath, as he finally spots his sister in the distance. Scaramouche, is standing nearby with his arms crossed, looking like he’d rather be anywhere but here, yeah, makes sense.

Scaramouche's stare was burning into him, judging him for Klee's behaviour as he made his way over. He was probably about to be lectured on the responsibilities of watching over your siblings. As if Jean hasn’t given him enough of those already. What’s next? Actually, he doesn’t want to know.

"So," Scaramouche said, a sigh of frustration escaping him once Albedo had walked over. "Am I safe to assume Klee is your sister?" he asked, his eyes boring through Albedo, almost making him feel small.

Albedo sighed, "Yes, I am." His gaze shifts towards Klee. "I'm sorry about the, uh… mess." His voice carried a hint of resignation, knowing full well that this apology was most likely useless. "I'll ensure she won't cause any more trouble."

Albedo's eyes briefly flicker with a mix of frustration and embarrassment

"Again." Scaramouche raises an eyebrow at the word "again", the shock evident in his expression.

"Wait, hold on… you're telling me this isn't the first time? Like, seriously? It's a common occurrence with Klee?" he asks, almost as if he can't process the fact that yes, a mere child often gets in trouble for property damage.

Scaramouche internally asks himself if this child is a walking disaster, and then asks the Archons why he has to face these kinds of customers.

Klee peaks out from behind Albedo, her eyes staring at Scaramouche, who almost looks like he's about to lecture them. "Bedo," she whispers, tugging on her brother's coat. "Didn't you say guys that look like him are your type, or whatever that means?"

Her innocent words hung in the air, leaving Albedo completely mortified and Scaramouche utterly baffled.

"Klee!" Albedo's voice is a mix of embarrassment and frustration as he desperately tries to shut down her attempt at playing matchmaker. "I said no such thing!" His protests, however, are met with Klee's mischievous smile, her eyes twinkling with amusement. Scaramouche, on the other hand, is just baffled, eyebrows raised in confusion.

Finally, Scaramouche let out a sigh. "Look, just pay for the damages and I'll let you two go, alright?

With that, and a final apology from Albedo, the pair finally leave, with Klee still clinging to Albedo's coat and Scaramouche just standing there, wishing Nahida had applied him to a different job.
