Chapter Text
It was late at night, when Second suddenly woke up from a nightmare. He shot his head up, panting hard. "N-No..." He murmurs under his breath.
He got out of his bed. It let out a loud squeaking sound, which caused him to flinch.
He gulped, looking around, he looked inside his closet, his eyes widening.
He was just seeing things, he knew that. But once he glanced at the time, he shuddered.
3AM.
Second covered his eyes with his blanket.
His room was so quiet all he could hear was his quick breathing,
He lifted the cover from his face for a few seconds... before hopping out of his bed.
He headed towards his door, he quietly twisted the door handle.
He glanced at his brothers' rooms, before lowering his gaze downstairs.
With slow, quiet steps, he made his way downstairs. He glanced at the nearby clock, the sound of the ticking unnerving him.
He slowly stepped into the kitchen, he opened the refrigerator door, grabbing his favorite cup.
It was already filled with water thankfully.
He quietly took a sip, before setting it down on the table.
He was ready to head back upstairs, until the sound of footsteps above startled him.
He was currently scared after his nightmare, and now this? Could it get any worse?
The footsteps get louder.
Second looks at the stairs in fear.
An abrupt chuckle causes Second's pupils to enlarge in fear.
Instinctively, he hid underneath the table, but whatever was upstairs... saw the movement.
Suddenly the footsteps get fast and louder.
Second gulps for breath, hiding his face with his knees.
The footsteps sound was heard into the kitchen, when suddenly, the person behind the footsteps goes underneath the table as well.
The person says a loud, "BOO!" Into Second's face, causing him to scream.
Loudly.
Second stared at the person in terror, until the face was recognizable.
"Oh." He muttered. "DARK!!!" He yelled at him.
"SHH!!" Dark says, looking regretful and mad.
"THIS IS YOUR FAULT!" Second yells.
"NOT MY FAULT THAT YOUR FOOTSTEPS ARE SO LOUD!" Dark objects
Second's eyes grow wide. "HEY!"
"LOUDY PANTS." Dark yells back.
"BUT-" Their argument cuts off as Alan stood beside the table.
Second squeaks in alarm at the sudden encounter.
"Any explanation on why you two are up at 3AM??" Alan asks in disapproval.
"I- HE STARTED IT!" Second yells at Dark.
"NO! HE DID! HE WOKE ME UP!" Dark retorts.
"Guys. Stop. You need to learn to speak kindly, haven't I told you that already?" Alan asks both.
"Y-Yeah..." Second murmurs.
"Yeah..." Dark mutters.
"Good. Anyway, I don't need an explanation anymore. You two need to go back to bed." Alan says.
"But I don't wanna!" Second cries.
"Why not?" Alan asks.
"Nightmares..." Second murmurs.
"Oooh. I see. I can turn on your lamp in the room if you like." Alan says soothingly.
"Can I have mine on too?" Dark asks.
"No." Alan objects. "Just Second." He says, picking up Second from underneath the table.
"Why just HIM!?" Dark yells.
"Because he's younger, and he had a nightmare. And you don't need such things." Alan says, carrying Second upstairs.
Dark lags behind Alan, muttering incoherent words under his breath.
Alan tucks Second in his bed, murmuring goodnight to his favorite child.
As Alan turned on the lamp, Second spoke up.
"Alan?" He asks.
"What is it son?" Alan replies.
"Why couldn't Dark have his lamp on, he asked... I mean... I know he's older an all, but just by a few years. And I just feel... I dunno. Bad for him." Second mutters to Alan.
"Well... I don't mean to be rude Second... it's just something he really doesn't need now. Alright? Now get some rest son." Alan says, walking towards the door.
"Goodnight." Second mutters, watching him go, before turning around to fall asleep.
Alan walks near his other sons' doors. He opened Dark's. "Dark?" He asks.
Darks head lifts up from his pillow. "Yeah?" He asks sleepily.
"Goodnight." Alan says.
"Goodnight." Dark replied.
Alan gazes at Dark, before turning away and closing the door behind him.
Notes:
Dark: Why can't I turn my lamp on in my bedroom *grumbles*
Alan: Because you're Dark.
Dark: OH. Yeah. True.
Chapter 2: An Unexpected Fight

Chapter Text
The bright morning sun shined on Chosen's face, causing him to wake up from his dream. He yawned, then sat up to stretch. He sniffed the air, smelling the fresh scent of breakfast. He jumped out of bed, then headed towards the bathroom.
As he came out, he saw Dark standing by the door.
"What?" Chosen asks, looking irritated.
"Nothing." Dark replies with an innocent smile.
Chosen sighs and walks past him.
He walks downstairs, hearing Dark's footsteps behind him.
Chosen turned to face Dark. "Why are you being annoying right now?" He asks.
"How am I being annoying?" Dark asks with his innocent smile.
"You just are." Chosen replied.
"You're the one with the negative attitude." Dark says.
"No. You're provoking me!" Chosen says, crossing his arms in irritation.
"Still, negative attitude, bro." Dark says.
Chosen ignores him and steps into the kitchen.
"Is Second awake?" Kaori asks.
"I think he's still asleep." Dark replies.
"One of you wake him." Alan says.
Vic was already awake and helping make breakfast.
"Be quick, because if he doesn't come down in time, I'll eat his waffles for him." He joked.
"You do it." Dark says, pushing Chosen.
Chosen sighed. "Fine." He muttered, walking back upstairs.
He knocked on Second's door, waiting for a few seconds, before opening it.
"You awake, Sec?" Chosen asks.
"I'm awake now." Second says annoyedly, but softens up quickly.
"Great, Vic said to come downstairs for breakfast, or he'd eat your waffles." Chosen says.
"Okay!" Second says, giving Chosen a morning hug like he'd always do, then ran towards his door and hurried downstairs.
Chosen followed at a slower pace. Smiling at Second's innocent behavior.
He made his way downstairs and back into the kitchen.
Vic was serving plates.
"Come sit down to eat you two." Alan says.
Second sat down quickly, as Vic handed him his plate, he snatched it. "Don't you even think to try and eat my waffles!" He says jokingly.
Vic smiles in amusement. "Alright, I won't." He says.
As Chosen sat down next to Second and Vic's chairs, he waits for his plate patiently.
"So, how was everyone's sleep? Except for Second and Dark." Alan says to his older two sons. "Was it well?" He asks.
"Yeah," Victim says, handing Chosen his plate, then sat down to eat his. "But I did hear a scream last night at 3AM. Any explanations?" He asks, looking at Second squarely.
"Uh- Well... I had a nightmare okay? And DARK scared me, so blame him." Second says.
Alan looks surprised, Victim looks amused.
"Now I haven't heard that part of the story. Dark, you do know better." Alan says, giving Dark a stern look.
Dark grumbled. "I KNOW. But Second's a baby. He can't even handle a nightmare." Dark says exasperatedly.
"Dark, he's 11. Can you blame him?" Alan asks.
"11. It's not that young. Alan, why are you so clingy towards Second?" Dark complains.
"Dark. You need to have manners, do you understand?" Kaori says.
"Pfft. Fine." Dark grumbled, eating his food angrily.
Chosen watched quietly while he ate his breakfast.
"Well, what about you Cho? Slept well?" Second asks with a smile.
"I guess." Chosen replies.
"Good." Second says.
An hour After breakfast, Alan and Kaori went shopping together alone.
Chosen saw Dark and Second, curious, he walks up to them, realizing the two were having an argument.
Chosen grumbled in annoyance.
"Dark! Leave. Him. Alone." Chosen says firmly.
"No. Second is saying that I'm the worst favorite child! TAKE THAT BACK SECOND." Dark yells, grabbing Second's arm.
Chosen jumped at Dark's sudden outburst. "Are you serious Dark!? Arguing over something little like this, and yet you're 14." He says disapprovingly.
"I'll show you something." Dark says to Chosen's face. He turned back to Second. The grip on his arm tightening. "Look, idiot. You gonna talk shitty about me? Then guess what. It's too late to take that back. Because now this is on you." Dark says, lifting Second off the ground by his arm. Second gasped. "I TAKE THAT BACK! BUT YOU'RE JUST A MEANY DARK!" Second yells
Chosen couldn't process what was going on, his eyes widening as he watched the scene.
"I said too late." Dark says, then suddenly, he swung Second, throwing him across the floor, landing hard on his back.
Chosen gasped. Dark looked angry.
"D-DARK!" Chosen exclaimed.
"Deserved," Dark says.
Second was just sprawled on the floor, his expression stunned.
Chosen turned to Dark. "Second HAS a point! You're nothing but the least favorite in here, if not that, WORST." He yells, then ran up to Second.
Dark glared at Chosen in anger as he watched him go.
"Sec...? You okay?!" Chosen asks urgently. Second stirred slightly, letting out a groan of pain.
Chosen turned to glare at Dark. "THIS... THIS IS YOUR FAULT!" He yelled, he never sounded so... so angry.
Second opened his eyes to meet Chosen's. "Cho...?" He asks.
"It's okay, Sec... I'm here... I'm sorry... I could've prevented this..." Chosen comforts.
"It... it's okay, really... it's my fault.. I shouldn't have said anything..." Second murmurs.
"No... I just stood there and let the scene unfold. I'm truly sorry... are you alright?" Chosen asks.
"Yeah... I'll be okay... thanks, Cho..." Second whispers.
"I love you, Sec." Chosen says, hugging Second tightly. Suddenly, an angry scream came from Dark behind them, and Chosen turned his head, only for his eyes to widen as a fireball was headed straight towards them. Chosen let out a shriek of surprise. He pushed Second quickly out the way, but the fireball hit him anyway. Chosen gasped, feeling the fire surge through his body. He quickly cleared the fire away, heaving heavily, then turned to glare at Dark. "You're in big trouble. And you know it." He says roughly.
"You okay Chosen?!" Second asks.
"Fine." Chosen responds, coughing slightly.
"I know. But I'll have you know, I'm still angry!" Dark says angrily.
Vic smelt the faint scent of smoke coming from downstairs. He hurried over to see the scene. He was late, but he was still surprised.
"What in the name of the Internet is going on!?" He asks, staring at Second's teary expressions and then at Chosen's burnt shirt and pants.
Chosen's head lowered. "Dark got mad and started a small fight." He muttered.
Vic turned to Second. "You okay? Why are you crying?" He asks.
"Dark threw me... hard... I'm okay... but my head hurts now..." Second replies.
Vic glared at Dark. "And why are you burned everywhere?" He turns to ask Chosen.
Chosen glanced at Dark. Vic already knew what that meant.
"He... used his a fireball to blast me..." Chosen mutters.
Dark stomped over to Chosen. "I'll KILL YOU!" He yells, grabbing Chosen's neck.
Vic swings into action. "DARK, STOP. YOU ARE GETTING TOO AGGRESSIVE. TIME OUT FOR YOU." He yells. Trying to pull Dark away from Chosen. Second stood there in panic. Why did this have to happen when Alan and Kaori went shopping?
Dark's grip was strong, and he was hard to pull off. Victim pulled harder, but Dark bit at Victim's arm. Second came to help. "D-Dark! Stop it!" He says urgently.
Chosen tried fighting back, but Dark began to sit on top of him, restraining him.
"DARK!! THERE IS NO REASON TO HURT HIM!" Second cries.
"EXACTLY. LET. GO." Vic yells.
Dark was losing his grip when everyone fought back.
Chosen began to kick his legs.
Dark finally let go.
"I'm not done." He says, grabbing Second's neck.
Second shrieked in alarm. He gripped onto Dark's hands. "S-st-stop!" Second whimpered.
Vic panics, he needed to aid Chosen, but he can't leave Second. He grabs Dark harshly. When that didn't work, he ran upstairs. He opened the door to his room in a frenzy, he opened his closet door, grabbing the whip, then rushed out. He hurried back downstairs, then swung his whip, hitting Dark's back hard. Dark screamed.
"OWIE!" Dark says, letting go of Second.
Second huffed. And heaved.
Vic ran to Second. "You okay?!" He asks.
Second didn't reply. Vic turned to Chosen, bringing Chosen closer to his side.
"You okay?" He asks Chosen. Chosen nodded, glaring at Dark.
Second stares at Vic, then at Chosen, quickly embracing him as soon as he saw him.
Vic glares disapprovingly at Dark.
Dark grumbles, but realized he went too far. He might have anger issues at this point. Because now, he regretted his disaster. He grumbled. "Tell on me all you want. I don't care." Dark grumbled, turning away and heading upstairs.

Chapter Text
Chosen embraced Second tightly, comforting him as he cried. He glared at Dark's retreating back, his anger simmering just beneath the surface. "Shh, it's okay Sec. I've got you. Dark won't hurt you again," Chosen murmured, stroking Second's hair soothingly.
He looked to Vic, his expression grim. Vic sighed heavily, shaking his head in disapproval. "Chosen, take Second to the bathroom and clean up his injuries. I'll deal with Dark."
Chosen nodded, picking up Second carefully and carrying him towards the bathroom. As they walked, Second clung to Chosen tightly, his small body shaking with sobs.
"I'm sorry, Cho. I shouldn't have provoked Dark like that," Second whimpered.
"It's not your fault, Sec. Dark's the one who lost control, not you," Chosen said firmly, his voice tinged with barely concealed anger.
In the bathroom, Chosen gently washed the dirt and minor cuts from Second's face and arms, his touch tender and caring. He dried him off with a soft towel, then helped him change into clean clothes. "There, all better now," Chosen said softly, giving Second another comforting hug.
Second looked up at Chosen with tearful eyes. "Cho, why is Dark so angry and mean all the time? Doesn't he like us?"
Chosen sighed, his heart aching for his younger brother. "I don't know, Sec. But no matter what, I'll always be here for you. You're my little brother and I love you."
"I love you too, Cho," Second said, hugging Chosen tightly.
Just then, Vic entered the bathroom, his expression serious. "Alright, let's get back to the living room. We need to talk about what happened today."
Chosen nodded, taking Second's hand and leading him back out.
As Alan and Kaori walked through the front door, the house was unusually quiet, save for the distant sound of Dark's angry muttering from his room upstairs.
Chosen, Second, and Vic waited anxiously in the living room, having already discussed amongst themselves how to break the news of the chaos that had unfolded in their parents' absence.
Alan noticed the tense atmosphere immediately. He set down the bags of groceries he and Kaori had brought back from shopping, his brows furrowing in concern. "Alright, someone want to tell me what's going on here? Did something happen while we were out?" Alan asked, his gaze sweeping over his sons.
Kaori, sensing the heaviness in the air, came to stand by Alan's side, her own expression etched with worry.
Chosen exchanged a glance with Second and Vic, taking a deep breath before speaking up. "Dad, Mom... Dark lost control earlier. He got really angry at Second and... and he hurt him,"
Chosen explained, his voice still tinged with residual anger and concern.
Second, who had been trying to be brave, burst into tears at the mention of the incident. Kaori quickly moved to comfort him, pulling him into a gentle embrace. "Shh, it's alright sweetheart. You're safe now," Kaori soothed, glaring over at Alan in silent communication about dealing with their second youngest son.
Victim stepped forward, his expression serious. "Dark grabbed Second and threw him across the room. Chosen got burned trying to protect him from a fireball Dark threw."
Alan's eyes widened in shock and growing rage. He turned to the stairs, taking a step towards them before pausing.
"Chosen, Vic, take your brother to his room and stay there to comfort him." Alan ordered, his voice low and dangerous.
"I'll handle Dark."
Chosen nodded solemnly, helping Second to his feet and guiding him towards his room with Vic. As they reached the door, Chosen paused and turned back to his parents.
"Mom, Dad... please be careful. Dark is really angry, and he's not thinking straight," Chosen warned, a note of fear in his voice.
Kaori nodded, giving Chosen a reassuring smile even as her eyes flashed with fury at the thought of her second youngest son's misbehavior.
Alan took a deep breath, trying to calm the anger boiling inside him as he marched up the stairs, each step heavy with determination. He could hear Dark's muffled shouts and curses coming from behind his closed door, the wood vibrating slightly with the force of his temper tantrum.
Without hesitation, Alan barged into the room, his eyes scanning the disheveled space. Clothes were strewn about haphazardly, furniture upturned, and the air hung heavy with a sense of destruction.
Dark whirled around to face his father, his red eyes blazing with fury and his red hair disheveled. He opened his mouth to shout again, but the words died on his lips as he took in Alan's thunderous expression.
"DARK!" Alan bellowed, his voice echoing through the room. "What in God's name do you think you're doing!?"
Dark crossed his arms defiantly, his chin jutting out in a stubborn angle. "None of your business," he muttered, turning away from Alan.
Alan clenched his fists, fighting the urge to grab his son and shake some sense into him. Instead, he took a step closer, his voice lowering to a dangerous growl.
"None of my business? Dark, your actions today were unacceptable. You hurt your brother, and nearly injured your other brother in the process. That is my business."
Dark scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Second's a crybaby. He deserved it."
Alan's eyes flashed, and he grabbed Dark roughly by the shoulder, yanking him around to face him directly. "No one deserves to be thrown across a room like a rag doll, Dark. No one. And I will not tolerate this behavior under my roof."
Dark struggled against Alan's grip, but Alan held firm, his fingers digging into his son's shoulder. "You're grounded, Dark. No video games, no going out with friends, no nothing. You'll stay in this room and think about what you've done until I say otherwise."
Dark's eyes widened in disbelief. "WHAT!? But Dad, that's not fair! I can't be grounded forever!"
"Forever? No, just until I decide you've learned your lesson. And if you don't shape up, it will be forever. Do I make myself clear?" Alan asked, his voice hard as steel.
Dark glared at his father, his eyes blazing with resentment and defiance. "Fine," he spat out, wrenching himself out of Alan's grip and stumbling back. "I'll stay in this stupid room. But it's not fair! Second always gets away with everything, and I never do anything right!"
Alan's expression softened slightly, a flicker of sadness in his eyes. "Dark, I know you feel unappreciated sometimes. But hurting your brother is never the answer. We need to find a better way to handle your anger and frustration. I promise we'll work on it as a family."
With that, Alan turned and left the room, closing the door firmly behind him. He made his way back downstairs, his mind already churning with thoughts of how to address the family's issues and help Dark find a healthier way to cope with his emotions.
Kaori looked up as Alan entered the living room, her arms crossed. Her expression serious and thoughtful.
"Is everything alright?" Kaori asked softly, searching Alan's face for clues about how the confrontation with Dark had gone.
Alan sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. "He's calmer now. But it's going to take some work to get through to him. I've grounded him until further notice."
Kaori nodded, her brow furrowed in concern. "I'll talk to him later, try to get to the root of why he's so angry all the time. Maybe we can find a way to channel it better."
Alan sat down on the couch opposite of Kaori, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. "We need to be more mindful of how we're all treating each other. No one should feel like they're being targeted or picked on. And Dark need's to control his temper."
The next day dawned bright and clear, a sharp contrast to the darkness and chaos that had unfolded within the household the day before. Chosen, Vic, and Second had agreed to go outside for a race, hoping to blow off some steam and forget about the ugliness of their recent encounter with Dark.
As they stepped out into the warm sunlight, the three brothers stretched and prepared for their impromptu competition. Second, still a bit shaken from his ordeal, clung to Chosen's arm for a moment before letting go and taking his starting position.
Vic, ever the competitive one, cracked his knuckles and grinned at his younger siblings. "Alright, I'll give you a 5-second head start, since you two are still little," he teased, ruffling Second's hair playfully.
Chosen rolled his eyes, a small smirk playing on his lips. "Pfft, we don't need a head start. I'll show you who's little and who's not."
Second giggled, bouncing on the balls of his feet in anticipation. "Yeah, let's go Cho! We'll beat Vic!"
With that, Victim crouched down, his muscles tensing. "Okay, on your mark... get set... GO!"
The brothers took off like rockets, their legs pumping furiously as they raced down the sidewalk. Chosen held back slightly, wanting to make sure Second kept up without feeling overwhelmed.
As they ran, Chosen glanced over at his little brother, noting the wide grin plastered across his face and the sheer joy in his eyes. For a moment, all the darkness and fear from the previous day melted away, replaced by the simple, unadulterated happiness of a child at play.
Back in the house, Dark was indeed trapped in his room, his punishment for the day before still in full effect. He lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling with a scowl etched onto his face. The sound of his brothers' laughter and playful shouts drifted up from outside, only serving to fuel Dark's growing resentment and boredom.
Rolling onto his side, Dark glanced out the window, watching as Victim, Chosen and Second raced down the sidewalk, their small forms growing smaller in the distance.
Dark's hand clenched into a fist, his jaw tightening as he watched his siblings enjoy themselves without him. He felt like an outcast, punished and left to languish in solitary confinement while the rest of his family carried on as if nothing had happened.
With an angry huff, Dark rolled onto his back once more, crossing his arms over his chest. He knew he should feel guilty for hurting Second, but all he could focus on was the injustice of being grounded while his brothers got to have fun.
As the minutes ticked by, Dark's boredom and anger grew, his mind a whirlwind of dark thoughts and resentment. He longed to be out there with his siblings, to feel the wind on his face and the thrill of competition. But instead, he was trapped, a prisoner in his own room, left to stew in his own anger and frustration.
Dark closed his eyes, trying to block out the sounds of laughter that still drifted in from outside. He knew he would have to find a way to make amends with his brothers eventually, but for now, all he could feel was the weight of his punishment and the ache of being left behind.
As always.
