Chapter Text
Caroline just couldn’t stop herself from crying. She couldn’t believe that she actually killed someone. Caroline Forbes might not be the nicest person in the world but she never saw herself as a killer either. She was just so hungry and after being around Matt all night, she couldn’t stop herself from feeding. It might have been easier if she had never smelled that the guy was bleeding. She would never know.
“He’s dead. I killed him. What’s wrong with me?” Caroline asked. She knew she shouldn't ask from a random guy but this guy didn’t seem to even flinch after seeing the dead body next to her.
“There’s nothing wrong with you, love. You’re a vampire. Embrace it,” The guy, with British accent told her.
“But I don’t want to be one. I just want to be normal again,” Caroline said, pulling at her hair on top of her head, with both of her hands. “But I can’t can I?”
“Who are you?” Caroline asked after realizing that the guy wasn’t going to answer to her.
“My name is Klaus,” he told her. “What’s your name, sweetheart?”
“I’m Caroline. Are you a vampire too, Klaus?”
“You could say that,” Klaus smirked.
“Can you help me? I don’t want to kill any more people,” Caroline started crying again.
“Why would I do that? You’re talking like you need to be fixed. You’re not broken. You’re just more than you were before,” Klaus told her as he looked straight to her eyes and caressed the side of her head.
“I am broken. I just killed someone!” She yelled. “Oh God. My mom is going to kill me. She’s the sheriff, you know?”
“You’re more than human now. You could always just kill her,” Klaus said.
“I’m not going to want to eat my own mom, will I?” Caroline asked, scared that she was going to hurt her.
“Not if you don’t want to,” Klaus sighted.
“Of course not,” Caroline said, seriously before adding sadly: “Well, sometimes I do. She cares more about work than she does about me.”
“I’m sure that’s not true.”
“It is and now I’m a killer and I was killed by my own best friend,” Caroline told him before putting both of her hands to her own face. “And now I’m all alone.”
“You’re not alone,” Klaus told her, pulling her hands out of her face.
“I am. I can’t tell anyone in my life that I am a vampire, can I?” Caroline thought aloud. “Besides Elena will probably not like the fact that I’m not dead and I can’t see Damon Salvatore wanting me to be alive.”
“Salvatore? As in Stefan Salvatore’s brother?” Klaus asked, making Caroline turn to look at him.
“You know Stefan? He’s dating my friend. His brother wanted me dead already before I kicked his ass.”
“You kicked Damon’s ass?” Klaus couldn’t help but smirk at that.
“I was mad. The guy compelled and used me for months. After I was turned all the abuse came back to me. How I tried to run away from him but he compelled me to stay calm just so I would keep having sex with him.”
“And did kicking his ass satisfy you enough?” Klaus asked, doubting the fact.
“No. I wanted to kill him,” Caroline admitted.
“And why didn’t you?” he asked.
“Because--” Caroline started but didn’t really know how to answer that. Because of Elena who literally killed her? Because Stefan might come after her? So what? It’s not like she had a lot to live for. Her life would never be the same again. All because of Damon and Elena.
“Because...?”
“I don’t really know. I was going to say because of Elena but I don’t know if I really care after being killed by her. I can also remember her seeing the brutal bite marks he left on my body but did she do anything about it? Of course not.”
Caroline was bothered by something on her face and moved her hand on her face just for it to turn bloody.
“And now I’m blabbering to a random vampire. Classic Caroline,” She sighted.
“I’m not random vampire. You know my name.”
“But that’s all I know. You already know my name, that my mom is a sheriff, who killed me and even about my abusive ex-boyfriend,” Caroline said, hitting her face with her hand.
“Come with me and I will tell you all about myself,” Klaus smirked.
“Come with you—a complete stranger who apparently doesn’t care about dead bodies according to your reaction to the guys I killed—Oh my God I don’t even know his name. Am I the worst person ever?”
“The worst,” Klaus said, smirking. Caroline knew he was just joking, so she couldn’t help but let out a little smile.
“There it is,” Klaus smiled.
“Where what is?” Caroline asked, confused.
“Your smile. I was wondering how you would look like when you smile.”
“Thanks,” Caroline thanked him.
“For what?”
“For making me feel better even if only for a minute.”
“I’m glad you feel better, love but I really need to get going. I have somewhere to be. You should get rid of the body before someone sees it,” Klaus advised her.
Caroline didn’t know how long she sat there after Klaus left but before she knew it, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. It woke her up from staring at nothing and she jumped out of where she was sitting.
“Don’t come near me!” Caroline yelled at her childhood friend.
“Caroline--” Elena said with what Caroline used to call her nice, calm voice.
“Get away from me. You killed me.”
“No, no, Caroline, that wasn’t me.” Elena said, putting her hand to his heart. “You know that. It was Katherine.”
“You expect me to believe you suddenly have a death ringer! I’ve known you since we were kids. I think I’d know if you had a twin. And why would she do this to me!”
“Stefan, we gotta get her inside,” Elena told her boyfriend instead of trying to calm her friend or at least explain things better to her.
“Caroline, come with me,” Stefan told her, taking a hold of her hand.
“She will die. It’s only matter of time,” Stefan’s brother said, walking on the scene.
“No!” Caroline yelled at him. “You all stay away from me! “
Damon had a stake with him and tried to stake Caroline but was stopped when Elena ran in front of Caroline.
“Damon, she’s my friend,” Elena said and it looked like she was having a staring contest with Caroline’s abuser.
“Whatever happens it’s on you,” Damon said, moving both of his forefingers before walking away.
“Caroline?” Caroline’s other friend, Bonnie asked. The last thing Caroline wanted was for Bonnie to see her like this. She really should have cleaned up after Klaus left her.
“It’s okay. Come on,” Stefan said, trying to get Caroline come with him.
“No,” Bonnie said, in denial. She couldn’t believe that Caroline was her worst nightmare, a vampire. Bonnie only had wanted to save Caroline with Damon’s blood. She never wanted her to be turned to something evil.
“You’re not. You can’t. You can’t be,” she kept going until walking to the new vampire and taking a hold of her hand.
“Bonnie.” Caroline said but before she knew it, her friend was gone. Caroline was frozen in place as Bonnie ran away. Caroline couldn’t believe that her own friend was abandoning her when she needed her the most. How was she going to deal with being a vampire with no one she trusted on her side?
One of her best friends may or may not have killed her and the other one hated her.

Chapter Text
Caroline Forbes wished she was evolved enough to say that she forgave her friends immediately the next day but unfortunately even seeing Elena or Stefan made her skin crawl. The only friendship she was sorry to lost was Bonnie's but the more her former best friend was giving her a silent treatment-- the more Caroline wondered why they were friends at all.
Caroline knew that Bonnie was still friends with Elena, who was dating someone who not only had killed a lot of people but who also had a psycho brother. How could Bonnie be okay with Stefan but consider someone she has known since they were in the kindergarten as a monster? Caroline had killed one person. Just one and that was right away after being turned.
"Caroline. We're here to help you," Elena told Caroline.
"You mean because your freaky look alike killed me and your boyfriend's brother somehow got his blood inside me because that's how it works, right? I needed to have Damon's blood in my system to turn."
"And I'm sorry about that," Elena said, feeling guilty for what happened to her friend.
"Bonnie," Caroline said, crossing her arms and ignoring her other quests. "You can't be mad at me forever."
"Caroline. You killed someone. This isn't about some trinket you stole from me," Bonnie stated, making Caroline scoff.
"You mean the pendent Damon gave me and the compelled me to steal?" Caroline asked, getting mad even thinking about it. She wasn’t just mad at Bonnie mentioning Damon but remembering how it made her feel for her friend to act like it belonged to her. Caroline gave it to Bonnie but still that was a bad friend move. Later she forgave Bonnie as it caused the witch’s ancestor to possess her body. "The same Damon who was abusing me but you didn't even notice."
"Caroline. I had a lot of things going on. You know grams died," Bonnie stated, remembering the night that changed everything for her.
"Elena noticed," Caroline told her and Bonnie missed how Elena flinched. She didn't know about vampires yet but she should have done something after seeing the bitemarks and how Caroline clearly wasn't herself after. Elena didn’t want to admit to even to herself but she was more worried about Stefan ghosting her.
"I don't believe you," Bonnie denied it. "If she had. She would have stopped Damon. I might hate him but he would do anything for Elena."
"I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you would take her side. You guys left me out of conversations way before Stefan ever walked into our lives," Caroline said, crossing her arms again. She wasn’t going to mention how Damon was different back when she met him. She could even call him nice at times, to Elena anyway.
“That’s not true, Caroline.”
"There's no sides, Caroline. Are you being jealous of Elena again? I thought you got past that."
"Jealous?" Caroline asked, outraged. "Why do I even try with you? You haven't even tried to understand that I didn't mean to hurt that guy."
"Because you're a vampire now," Bonnie said and Caroline noticed that the witch couldn't help but flinch with the word vampire. "And I won't let you hurt anyone else. Let Stefan teach you to be a good vampire and I might make you a daylight ring."
"What's that? You mean that awful ring both Damon and Stefan are always wearing?" Caroline said, remembering how Damon explained how the ring worked. "No, thanks."
"Caroline," Stefan said, making her be sick of everyone saying her name. "It would help. You could go to the sun again."
"And see Matt?" Caroline asked, perking up.
"You can't see Matt," Elena said immediately.
"And why the hell not?"
"Elena's right," Stefan said. "He's human. You shouldn't be around humans before you can resist blood lust."
"So, after you teach me, I can be around Matt again?"
"I don't see why not," Stefan said at the same time as Elena told her that she didn't think it was a good idea.
"And why should I listen to you? Matt is my boyfriend not yours," Caroline said, not knowing why she was fighting with Elena since she didn't really know if she even wanted Matt anymore. He was a safe choice after Damon but as much as Caroline hated to agree with Elena while being mad at her, she was probably right-- Caroline should probably stay away from Matt Donovan.
Even before she was turned, Caroline was starting to see how she would never be anything but second choice to Matt no matter how much Caroline wished that it wasn’t like that. No amount of hoping would change the fact that Matt seemed to wait for the day that Elena would change her mind and take him back.
“I’m not going to stay away from my own boyfriend just because you tell me to and besides if you were allowed to decide I’d be sad, pathetic Caroline and would probably be forced to forgive Damon, right? Just so your life would be easier. It’s not my fault you chose the Salvatore brothers over me.”
"Caroline," she heard someone say as she was walking to Mystic Grill. As much as she hated it-- she should probably have a talk with Matt.
"Hey," Caroline stated, surprised to see Klaus. She kind of figured that he was someone out of town, just there for the carnival. Which of course was ridiculous now that she thought about it. He clearly wasn't a student.
"Fancy to see you here, love," he smirked.
"Well, I kind of live here," Caroline shrugged her shoulders. Klaus couldn’t help but smile at her. He couldn’t understand why but he enjoyed her company.
“Where did you get that?” Klaus wondered at loud, noticing her daylight ring.
“It’s ugly as fuck, isn’t it?” Caroline laughed. “I tried to make Bonnie give me a prettier one but either there isn’t one or she just hates me. Why give me something I would actually like when I’m just a monster to her?”
“Your friend is a witch?” Klaus asked, surprised and figured it would be a smart idea to not mention any of the witches he had killed during the decades, probably even few from Caroline’s friend’s family, depending what line she belonged to.
“I don’t know if I could call her a friend anymore. In her eyes I’m nothing but a monster. She did make me a daylight ring but not without threats and she wasn’t happy about it. I think she mostly did because Elena asked her to and Elena is trying to earn my forgiveness in her own weird way.”
“That’s her loss then. I just met you and instead of leaving this small town immediately here I am—making sure the newbie vampire I met last night is okay,” Klaus told her, making her blush.
“Sadly, that’s maybe the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me,” Caroline admitted and it might have meant more if she didn’t realize that he was staring at something behind her. She turned to look and Caroline Forbes should have been used to guys forgetting her existence the minute they saw Elena Gilbert.
Caroline really should be used to losing every guy she was even remotely interested in to Elena. She couldn’t forget the way Stefan Salvatore told her that they were never going to happen or how his brother made it clear that while they were sleeping together, he was using her just to hurt Stefan and to keep Elena closer. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the only guy in the past who preferred Elena to her. Elena was calm and she didn’t talk as much as Caroline did.
Caroline might have thought that Klaus was amazed by seeing how beautiful Elena was but how could she have known that Klaus was actually amazed by how there was finally another human doppelganger.
“It’s okay,” Caroline tried to fake smile.
“What?” Klaus finally took his eyes out of Caroline’s ex friend.
“That’s the effect Elena has to everyone.”
“It’s not like that,” Klaus tried to explain. He still thought that love was a vampire’s greatest weakness, so he didn’t understand why the idea of Caroline misunderstanding him made him almost panic. The original couldn’t understand the effect this baby vampire had on him.
“Yes, it is but like I said it’s okay. I had somewhere to be anyway.”
“Caroline--”
“Goodbye, Klaus,” Caroline told him and walked away from him. She hadn’t realized how much talking to someone last night had meant to her until the memory was ruined for her by realizing that things would never change. She would always remain as the second choice to everyone.
Caroline was so sick of being everyone’s back up.
Klaus let her walk away from him, knowing that there would be no talking to her right now as she was upset but this was no way goodbye. Not only would he stay for the girl that had made him feel something besides hatred but he would finally be able to break his curse. Klaus Mikaelson was no saint and he would make sure that Caroline would never forgive her friend or she might be a bit cross with him when he finally sacrificed her.
Notes:
So that's the wrap of second chapter! I really hope I'm giving these characters justice but I wanted to show witch this fic how unfair everyone was in the show with Caroline. I haven't decided what other ships I should involve in this fic yet. My dislike for most characters limits it a bit 😂
Chapter Text
Caroline had practiced different ways to break up with Matt Donovan in a nice way. She probably shouldn’t have bothered since when she finally got to Mystic Grill he was standing very close with his ex-girlfriend. Caroline had no idea where Stefan was but it looked like Stefan was comforting Elena.
“It’s Okay, Elena,” Caroline could hear with her vampire hearing from far away. Even if Caroline hadn’t already decided to break up with the guy she probably would have now. They were friends, yes but Matt also knew how jealous Caroline was of her ex- best friend.
“I don’t understand why she just won’t talk to me,” Elena was telling Caroline’s boyfriend.
“I don’t know what’s going on with you two but you will figure it out,” Matt told her. “She can’t be mad with you forever.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“I couldn’t” Matt simply said, making Elena give him a little smile and it looked like Matt almost swooned.
Elena was the first one to notice Caroline after she speed walked to them in human speed.
“Caroline,” she said.
“Can I speak to you?” Caroline asked Matt, completely ignoring Elena. It was kind of freeing to completely ignoring someone who hadn’t really been her friend since they were kids.
Caroline had tried her best but after she turned, she realized that even though Caroline was the more popular one, Bonnie and Elena ignored her a lot, having their own private conversations and acting like she was beneath them. Caroline used to be insecure about how much they much be annoyed by her—not so much anymore. Elena had quit cheerleading after her parents died but Bonnie didn’t seem to annoy it much either.
“Caroline, why are you acting like this?” Matt asked Caroline, shocked that she could treat her best friend like this.
“I hope you can get over this act soon, Care,” Elena said calmly. “I’ll talk to you later, Matt.”
“What’s going on with you lately?” Matt asked madly after Elena walked away from them.
“You have no idea what’s going on,” Caroline said, trying to calm herself. Matt had no idea if she even had a good reason to be mad at Elena and he just picked Elena’s side anyway.
“Because you won’t tell me!”
“You should at least try to act like you’re my boyfriend and not hers,” Caroline said madly but without shouting.
“Caroline,” Matt sighted. “You’re overreacting. Me and Elena have a lot of history, like you know.”
“I know. I was there when you two dated--”
“You’re just being insecure again,” Matt interrupted what she was going to say. Why was she even surprised? It sometimes felt like he just wanted her to stand still and look pretty.
“Actually, no I’m not. I think we should break up.”
“Caroline-- Where is this coming from. I know you had a scare after the accident but what changed? You just--”
“I just what?” Caroline asked loudly enough that some customers turned to look at them.
“I’m working. We should talk about this later,” Matt said, becoming uncomfortable. He was afraid that if Caroline caused a scene, he’d be fired.
“There’s no need to talk later. I could tell you that Elena burned my house and you would still take her side. I’m done being a second choice, so we’re over,” Caroline said turning away from him. Matt was going to shout after her but he was too afraid to get too much attention. Dating Caroline Forbes could be exhausting, so maybe this was for the better?
“That was your boyfriend?” Caroline could hear Klaus asking as she was walking in the street again to her car.
“Ex- boyfriend. You’re still here?” she asked, walking away from him but he followed her.
“You deserve better than him,” Klaus told her walking beside her.
“Stalker, much?” She asked after she stopped walking and turned to look at him.
“Me?” Klaus asked, touching his chest and smirking. “Never.”
“What do you want, Klaus?” Caroline asked, sighting. “We talked like twice and you saw me have a break down. Shouldn’t you be on your way out of town already?”
“What if I told you that I was staying for a while?” Klaus asked theoretically and Caroline’s heartbeat skipped a beat until she remembered the way he reacted after seeing Elena.
“Please just stop it. I’m not in the mood for being used just so you could get close to Elena. I’ve experienced that enough in my life, thank you.”
“The only person I’m romantically interest is you, Caroline. I don’t care about Elena the way you think,” Klaus informed her.
“What do you mean?” Caroline asked, confused. He wasn’t interested in her romantically but he was interested?
“I don’t think you’re ready to hear the whole truth but the only reason I reacted the way I did was because I was surprised to see another doppelganger.”
“Doppelganger. You mean because she and Katherine look exactly alike?” Caroline asked, remembering the vampire who killed her. She sat down to a bench close to them.
“You know Katherine?” Klaus asked, thinking that the doppelganger wouldn’t have any idea what she was.
“She was kind of the person who killed me,” she admitted. “Imagine how confused I was to wake up to my best friend tell me to give Salvatore brothers a message and calling herself Katherine.”
“Caroline,” Klaus said, taking a hold of her hand. “I might not get what I feel for you, yet but I promise that she won’t get away with hurting you.”
“You don’t have to do that. I’m better the way I am not than how I was like when I was human,” Caroline admitted. “I don’t think you would have noticed me at all if you met me before I was turned.”
“I don’t believe that,” he said, making her smile.
“Do you promise that you feel nothing for Elena?”
“That I can promise,” Klaus told her.
“I don’t really care what you want with her as long as you’re not playing with my feelings.”
“I thought she was your friend?” Klaus asked, lifting his brow.
“Not anymore,” Caroline decided. She didn’t think she could ever forgive all the way she had wronged her. “I had hopes to get Bonnie to see that I haven’t changed and that I’m not a monster but if she sides with Elena—I don’t even want her to.”
“What are you saying?”
“What happened to me when I was human. That will never happen again. I want everyone who wronged me to suffer. I’m sick of putting everyone else before me. I will get revenge on everyone who hurt me. I’m not going to be afraid of anyone anymore,” Caroline explained, making Klaus smirk.
“I can definitely help with that.”
Notes:
I think I mentioned how I had no idea where this fic is going. It's kind of writing itself and I had no idea Klaus and Caroline would have this talk so soon. Also I hadn't decided yet if Caroline and Bonnie would stay friends but apparently not. 😂
Chapter Text
Katherine Pierce enjoyed playing with her doppelganger and the Salvatore brothers but she wasn’t in love with Stefan like she wanted them to believe. It was more like she hated how Elena Gilbert got everything Katherine deserved.
Katherine had no idea why they believed that Stefan was so important to her. It was fun to make him and his brother obsessed over her in 1864 but if she really had loved him—she wouldn’t have stayed away for so long.
Katherine even turned one of Elena’s best friends just to make her suffer. Sure, she needed a vampire to give Klaus for his sacrifice but killing someone close to the dull version of herself was just a plus.
She had had great plans with Caroline, mostly using her to separate Stefan and Elena—just because she could. But it seemed like Caroline had just made it impossible. Katherine didn’t know if Caroline being close to Klaus was a good or bad thing she wondered as she watched the pairing outside of Mystic Grill. So many of her plans were ruined but maybe this could be a good thing? If Caroline really was over all of her friends—maybe Katherine could befriend her and use her, so Klaus couldn’t do anything to her?
Playing with the Salvatore brothers and her doppelganger was getting boring anyway. She could have so much fun with the baby vampire.
“So, this is where you’re staying?” Caroline asked him. He hadn’t expected her to agree to come with him to talk but here she was—with him.
“For the time being,” He simply said.
“You’re leaving then?” Caroline asked, trying not to show how attached she was already to him. It was impossible to not get attached to one person that understood her anymore.
“I promised I wouldn’t leave you and I won’t,” Klaus told her and she couldn’t help but let a little smile to escape, making him smirk at her. “I will build a mansion for my family.”
“Your family?” Caroline asked, confused.
“For me and my siblings,” Klaus explained.
“Like your vampire siblings or from your human days?” Caroline couldn’t help but asking. She could never control her curiosity.
“I think it is time for me to explain what I plan to do with your ex-friend,” Klaus said, sitting down in a couch, crossing his legs and spreading his arms.
“What are you going to do?” Caroline asked, squinting her eyes at him.
“I’m going to sacrifice her,” He simply said, not hiding anything.
“What do you mean you’re going to sacrifice her?!” Caroline yelled, not understanding why he would do anything like that. “Are you a witch too, like Bonnie?”
“Not part witch,” Klaus laughed like it was ridiculous. “There’s of course vampires that can also be witches. They’re called heretics but I’m something else—different kind of monster.”
“What are you?” Caroline asked. Instead of being scared, she was just curious about the guy in front of her.
“My mother turned me and my siblings into vampires thousand years ago with a spell after my little brother died. We were the first—the original vampires. But I was the only one who was hybrid. My mother had an affair and I triggered the wolf side of me the moment I killed someone.”
“What does this have to do with sacrificing Elena? I mean I want revenge against her but I’m not sure I want to kill her.”
“My mother cursed my wolf side and the only way to break the curse is to kill the doppelganger, a vampire and a werewolf.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Caroline asked, finally sitting down next to him.
“Because even though I want to keep you in my side, even if it means doing anything to make you hate your friend more. But at the same time, I also want you to choose to be by my side.”
“I know we haven’t known each other long but you are already more honest than anyone in my life has ever been and you make me feel heard. I choose you,” Caroline admitted, putting her arms around him and her head on his chest.
“I know I should pick Elena because I’ve known her since I was a kid but what has that ever gotten me?” Caroline asked, theoretically. “We’re basically worse than strangers now. I can never forgive my friends for picking that monster over me.”
“How can anyone pick anyone over you?” Klaus asked, caressing her hair.
“Everyone picks anyone over me. Even my own mother,” Caroline told him, sadly.
“What do you mean?” he asked, confused. He thought she had a good-ish relationship with her mother.
“She’s barely ever off work. Why spend any time with her own daughter when you can bail on her anytime? I feel like she’s pretending to be my mother every time we spend time together. We barely see each other ever since my dad left. Sometimes I wonder what was even the point of staying with her.”
“I’m sure she loves you,” Klaus said, still caressing her hair. He couldn’t understand why he enjoyed doing it.
“If she does—she has a funny way to show it. She never even warned me about vampires.”
“What do you mean?” Klaus wondered aloud. He probably should’ve found out more about Caroline before finding her.
“Stefan told me she’s part of some kind of council that knows all about vampires when he was trying to teach me how to eat bunnies.”
“Bunnies,” Klaus stated, disgusted and Caroline laughed.
“I know, right? But I guess it’s better than killing people.”
“You could always compel and release,” Klaus suggested.
“I’m not sure I could do that. Too many memories, you know?” Caroline asked and Klaus sighted.
“Then how about blood bags?”
“I think—they sound a lot better option than hunting innocent bunnies,” Caroline joked.
“I promise that Damon Salvatore won’t get away with what he did to you,” Klaus promised.
“Maybe we could sacrifice him to break your curse,” Caroline said, half joking.
“Anything you want,” Klaus said, putting his thumb and forefinger to her jaw, to turn her head towards him. “But what I want right now—is to kiss you.”
Caroline took a hold of his head and pulled his head towards her. She was just about to kiss him when she heard a voice.
“Interrupting something, am I?”
Notes:
What do we think about Katherine? Is she wanting to just manipulate Caroline or could they actually become friends? I always felt it was so OOC how obsessed she was with Stefan-- so she's not. Any guesses who interrupted Klaus and Caroline's first kiss?
Chapter Text
“Interrupting something, am I?” Kol asked his brother and the girl he was with. He still couldn’t believe that after decades his brother finally undaggered him. Klaus had been very crossed with him after he had plotted with witches against Klaus.
Kol didn’t know if he should be more surprised about the fact that Klaus had undaggered him before getting rid of their father dearest or the fact that Klaus seemed to be interest in a girl for something besides sex from the sides of him tightening his hold of the blonde girl.
“Caroline. This is one of my brothers,” Klaus simply stated.
“Hi,” Caroline shyly waved, embarrassed that the first time she was meeting one of Klaus’ siblings was when they were about to kiss from the first time. This gave back too many memories of past “boyfriend’s” parents giving her unpleased looks. Klaus’ brother didn’t look disappointed by his taste, though. Instead, it looked like he was smirking at them. “I’m Caroline.”
“Kol. I’m the more handsome brother,” Kol introduced himself.
“Shut up, Kol,” Klaus told him, frustrated. He didn’t like how Kol interrupted them just before he could finally have a taste of Caroline’s lips.
“I should go,” Caroline told the brothers before basically running away from the two, making Klaus sight.
“See you later, darling,” Kol shouted after her.
“Bye,” Caroline whispered as she went past Kol.
“What do you want?” Klaus asked, already regretting for undaggering his brother. He just needed one of his siblings with him and he knew that Elijah would rather stake him at the moment than be even the same room with him. Klaus probably shouldn’t have lied that he had thrown all of their siblings to the ocean but his brother’s holier than attitude could get to his nerves at times.
Klaus could’ve always undaggered Rebekah but at the time he didn’t know where Stefan was and he knew that his sister would be mad at him for choosing her safety over the fact that she wanted to be with Stefan.
But maybe it was a good thing that Klaus chose Kol as he knew witches well. Klaus also couldn't deny the fact that he secretly adored his little brother. Kol just a tendency to make things dangerous for them by killing tons of people and soon their father would find them. He really hoped this time would be different.
“I’m bored,” Kol complained as he threw himself to sofa chair opposite of Klaus.
“What do you expect me to do about it?”
“You promised to show me that things would be different now,” Kol said. He had always felt like an outsider in the family but Klaus promised that they could have a fresh start now and normally Kol wouldn’t believe a word coming out of his mouth but this was the first time neither Elijah or Rebekah were around.
Kol had never been part of the whole promise of always and forever but he was willing to give Klaus a chance. He could always resume to his search to the diamond if it didn’t work out but secretly he also wanted to feel like part of the family.
“What are we even doing back here, Nik?” Kol wondered aloud. “This town is so boring. I need entertainment and you forbid me doing any mayhem.”
“The doppelganger is here,” Klaus simply said.
“And the girl?” Kol lifted one of his brows.
“I fancy her. Besides she knows the doppelganger.”
“She does? That explains it, I guess,” Kol said. “You’re using her.”
“Don’t talk about Caroline like she’s just a playting or you will find yourself in a box again.” Klaus threatened.
“You actually care about this girl?”
“Actually, she wants revenge,” Klaus smirked.
“Convenient.”
Caroline couldn’t help but sight as she got out of the car after basically running away from Klaus and his brother. She wished she had actually kissed Klaus but she still felt like she had to get out of there before things got awkward and Klaus realized how different they were. He was a thousand years old vampire, what could he want with a baby vampire?
It didn’t help when she got closer and closer to her house and felt like this day wasn’t over. And she was right when she saw Elena waiting in her bedroom.
“Elena,” Caroline sighted and put her bag down. “Just take a hint already.”
“Nope, try again,” Elena lookalike told her.
“Katherine,” Caroline narrowed her eyes. “What do you want?”
“I need to admit that you make me intrigued,” Katherine told her and stands up.
“Me?” Caroline asked, confused and to be honest Katherine made her a little afraid. She did kill her, Afterall.
“I saw you today and somehow you have Klaus wrapped around your finger,” Katherine walked right next to Caroline.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t lie to me. What about you and I have a little chat?”
“I have nothing to say to you,” Caroline crossed her arms. “You killed me!”
“And aren’t you better for it?”
“Don’t change the subject. I might not know much but I do know that you want Stefan back. I’m not help. In case you haven’t noticed I’m not really friends with Elena anymore.”
“Good,” Katherine said, walking around her.
“Good?” Caroline asked, confused and turning to look at her. It was freaky how much Katherine looked like Elena if Elena had a better fashion sense and curled her hair. ” How is it good? I thought you were here to get me to spy on them.”
“You thought wrong. Like I said, I’m intrigued by you and I think we’re going to be great friends,” Katherine smirked.
“You really think I’m going to be friends with someone who literally killed me?”
“But you will be friends with someone who wants to sacrifice your friend?”
“Elena’s not my friend anymore. I don’t even care that you seem to have broken up her and Stefan. She didn’t care what happened to me, so why should I care about what happens to her?”
“You really hate her, don’t you?” Katherine asked shocked. To be honest, she had thought Caroline was just acting to be mad at Elena but it seemed like she really didn’t care what happened to her.
“Human me might have forgiven her the minute she apologized but she didn’t even do that. Elena clearly thinks I’m overreacting and should forgive Damon, so things would be easier for her. I won’t do that and she doesn’t care about my feelings. What happened to me when the Salvatores came to town—that will never happen again.”
“You’re different from what I thought,” Katherine admitted.
“Death changed me. I’m not going to be afraid of being alone anymore. I won’t be afraid of you anymore either.”
“I already killed you once. I can easily do it again,” Katherine told her.
“Maybe but clearly, you need me for something.”
“I already told you. You have Klaus wrapped around your finger,” Katherine told her.
“I really don’t,” Caroline complained, turning her head to the roof, like waiting someone to save her from this conversation.
“Tell him I can get him the moonstone. He will know what it means.”

Chapter 6
Summary:
Caroline gets a surprise at school
Chapter Text
“Your brother is in town,” Katherine spoke in the phone.
“Niklaus?” The voice asked from the other end.
“The one and only,” Katherine informed one Elijah Mikaelson. She might have been on the run from Klaus since before she was turned but she met Elijah sometimes during the years.
It wasn’t easy at first because she hated how Elijah was ready to sacrifice her for his brother but they had always been drawn to each other, even when Katherine was interested in Klaus as a human.
“Do you know what he’s doing in Mystic Falls?”
“My guess is that he found out about Elena Gilbert,” Katherine informed him.
“Who?” Elijah asked, never heard the name before.
“Let’s just say he’s about to get everything he has ever wanted.”
“Tell me everything you know, Katerina,” Elijah demanded.
“Katherine has been doing everything to break up me and Stefan and Caroline is still not talking to me,” Elena gilbert complained to her best friend.
“I know it’s difficult, Elena but maybe it’s better this way,” Bonnie told her.
“How can you say that?” Elena wondered aloud.
“Everything that’s wrong with our lives is because of vampires.”
“That’s not true,” Elena said.
“My grams died because of them and haven’t you noticed how different Caroline is? Making stories about you knowing about what Damon was doing to her. I don’t believe that even for a second.”
“Bonnie--”
“Don’t defend her. I know you and you would never let something like that happen to her without doing something to help her. Tell me I’m wrong,” Bonnie told her.
“Stefan’s not evil,” Elena said instead of answering to the witch’s question.
“I’ll give you that. Stefan loves you but I wish you would have let me kill Damon when I had the chance.”
“He’s not that bad,” Elena told her, remembering all the times the older Salvatore brother was there for her. Damon wasn’t a good person but he was good for her. Elena was still mad about Damon killing Jeremy but she couldn’t help but defend him.
“Not that bad?” Bonnie asked quietly but inside she was enraged. “He’s the reason we lost Caroline. Katherine would have never done anything to Caroline if she hadn’t wanted to play a game with Damon.”
“You told him to feed her his blood,” Elena said not unkindly.
“And I regret that. Maybe it would have been better for Caroline if she had died.”
Unknown to the friends, Caroline was close by and could hear what her ex-friends were talking about. Bonnie thought changing into vampire had turned her into something evil but instead she was just sick of being the forgotten friend, the one no one believed in. Truthfully, Caroline shouldn’t even be surprised.
Bonnie and Elena had always acted like they were better than her. They might have been friends since they were kids but Elena and Bonnie were always closer with each other than they were with her.
“Caroline, are you alright?” A girl with dark brown hair asked her.
“I’m fine,” Caroline told her and turned to look at the girl.
“Are you sure?” Davina asked the blonde. They weren’t friends or anything but she liked the girl. “I’ve noticed you haven’t spent much time with your friends.”
“If you knew what they were talking about me, you wouldn’t call them my friends,” Caroline murmured but the other girl heard her.
“How do you know what they are saying? We can’t hear them from over here,” Davina said confused.
“Did you want something?” Caroline asked instead of answering her. What could she say? ‘I can hear them because I’m a vampire and I have a super hearing?’
“No. Sorry. I just wanted to ask if you were okay after your accident?” Davina asked shyly.
“I’m fine,” Caroline answered confused. She never had a problem with Davina but they were never close either. All Caroline really knew about Davina was that like her, she had estranged relationship with her mother and that she played something like a piano or violin or something like that.
“Caroline,” A voice interrupted her, making her feel very popular suddenly. Caroline might be a cheerleader but she had more people she bossed around than a lot of friends.
“Talk to you later, Caroline,” Davina told her before quickly walking away from her and the new arriver.
“What are you doing here?” Caroline asked.
“Klaus send me when you didn’t answer your phone,” Kol answered her.
“But why?” Caroline asked, confused.
“It might have something to with the fact that Katerina visited you.”
“I knew I should’ve kept that to myself,” Caroline murmured. She knew she should’ve kept her mouth shut but instead texted Klaus about the moonstone this morning. She had great plans of avoiding Klaus after their almost kiss but apparently it was too much to ask.
“Now that you’ve seen that I’m safe, you can go,” Caroline told him.
“Actually, you’re looking at a new student at Mystic High.”
“Excuse me?”
“I’m not liking it either, darling. I’m a thousand-year-old vampire. Do you think I like the idea of going to a bloody high school?”
“You could just go?” Caroline asked.
“Klaus thought that you would need a bodyguard and it’s not like he can become a high school student. He looks too old.”
“Maybe I don’t need a bodyguard? I’m not merely a human anymore.”
“I’m merely doing what my brother asked,” Kol simply said.
“And do you always do what he tells you to do?”
“Usually no but you intrigue me.”
“Seriously?”
Elena and Bonnie were far away from Caroline but they saw her talking to someone they had never seen before.
“Who is that?” Bonnie asked, finding the guy cute.
“How can she flirt with someone already? She and Matt just broke up,” Elena complained, thinking how Matt deserved better. She didn’t like how Caroline hurt Matt but she was also relieved that Caroline hadn’t told Matt the truth. Elena wanted to keep Matt safe and knowing about vampires would change everything to Matt. He could never know what Damon did to Vicky.
“Caroline and Matt broke up?” Bonnie asked, confused.
“Didn’t I tell you?” Elena asked, sure she had told Bonnie.
“You didn’t,” Bonnie said quietly, and unknown to Elena her friend was starting to have doubts about her. Elena hadn’t denied knowing about the abuse and now she was keeping things from her. Bonnie hoped that she was just upset about losing Caroline so soon after her grandmother.
“I think she did it because she was jealous after seeing us talking,” Elena informed Bonnie. “She was always jealous of my relationship with Matt.”
“Elena,” Bonnie sighted.
“Let’s change the subject. Like what are you going to wear to the masquerade ball?” Elena smirked.
“What did you do?” Caroline asked Klaus after school. She wasn’t happy about Klaus enrolling his brother at her school
“Whatever do you mean?” Klaus asked, not even looking up from his sketch.
“How could you enroll your annoying brother to my school!” Caroline yelled, getting mad that he wouldn’t even look at her.
“That hurts,” Kol said from next to her, touching his heart with his right hand. “Right here.”
“Shut up,” Caroline said before turning to Klaus again. “I don’t need a bodyguard. Especially at school.”
Klaus finally looked up at her and his brother.
“Leave us,” he simply said.
“No fun,” Kol said but walked away from the two.
“I won’t let anything happen to you,” Klaus said after butting his sketchpad away and walking towards her.
“Do you really think I’m that weak?” Caroline pouted. She hadn’t really tested her vampire powers but she didn’t like the idea of him thinking she was a liability.
“Of course not,” Klaus said, holding her face in his hands. “But Katerina is much older than you.”
“You mean Katherine?” Caroline asked confused. “I don’t think she wants to hurt me.”
“You don’t know her like I do. If she knows you matter to me--”
“I think she just wants to use me to get her, her freedom,” Caroline said gently, not wanting him to get even more angry at her. “Do you really think she has the moonstone? You need that to free your wolf, right? At least that’s what she implied. Well, she called it moon and the sun curse.”
Klaus couldn’t help but smirk. He had totally forgotten that Katerina still believed it was all about the moon and the sun curse.
“What is that about?” Caroline asked confused.
“Let’s just say my brother and I invented the curse, so everyone would want to break the curse.”
Caroline heard a voice from her phone, that told her she received a text message. She took out her phone and opened the text message.
Organize my freedom from Klaus and I’ll give him the moonstone –Katherine
“It’s Katherine,” Caroline informed him, looking up at him.
“What does she want?”
“She’ll give you the moonstone in exchange for her freedom.”
“When?” he asked and she texted Katherine asking her when.
Tonight. Masquerade ball – Katherine
Chapter Text
“You look gorgeous, love,” Klaus informed his date. He wouldn’t even that mad at Katherine if she failed to deliver the moonstone to him. He would of course kill her but he would also be thankful for the chance to get a date with Caroline.
“You’re not looking that bad either,” Caroline told him and gave him a tiny smile.
“Not that bad?” Klaus asked, lifting his brows.
“Actually, you look perfect. It’s kind of annoying actually and I’m not the only one who noticed,” Caroline pouted, looking behind Klaus at the girls with masks whispering at each other and staring at Klaus.
“I only see you,” Klaus said, lifting her jaw, so he could look into her eyes. He couldn’t explain it but the only girl that could have his attention was the baby vampire in front of him.
“You’re just saying that,” Caroline said, embarrassed.
“I don’t just go around saying things I don’t mean, love” Klaus told him, seriously and when he saw that she was about to protest, he finally kissed her.
Caroline couldn’t believe that he was actually kissing her. They had their almost kiss of course but part of her believed that Klaus regretted it. This wasn’t just a peck of a kiss but it was hot and passionate. The kind of kissed that proved that she really was the only one he saw and he wasn’t just playing with her feelings because it was convenient how she wanted to get a revenge against her ex-friends.
“Katerina.”
“Elijah,” Katherine Pierce smirked. “Dance with me.”
“We’re not here to have fun,” Elijah informed her.
“Don’t you love to play games with me?” Katherine asked before taking a bite of a strawberry she took out of a tray next to them.
“Katerina,” Elijah sighted.
“Elijah,” she replied, narrowing her eyes teasingly.
“We can talk as we dance, can’t we?” Katherine asked after realizing that he wasn’t offering her, his arms.
“What am I doing here, Katerina?” Elijah asked, finally offering the arm she wanted. They walked to the so-called dance floor and started dancing.
“For protection.”
“Are you still afraid of my brother?” he wondered aloud. Katerina had changed from the human she was back when they met into a powerful vampire but after all these years she was still running away from Klaus.
“Not for long. I’m getting my freedom back today,” Katherine smirked.
“How?” Elijah couldn’t believe that his brother would ever forgive her for not being able to get his wolf back 500 years ago.
“I made a deal with his little girlfriend,” Katherine stated.
“This-- Caroline Forbes?”
“Yes. I just need to get the moonstone from Salvatore brothers tonight,” she informed the original.
“You don’t have it?” Elijah asked shocked. He thought that Katherine would’ve been smart enough to get i before contacting Niklaus.
“I will get it. Stefan wouldn’t cross me after I compelled Elena’s aunt to stab herself.”
“You better or Klaus will kill you.”
“You won’t let anything happen to me,” Katherine said cockily.
“You’re friends with sweet Caroline, right?” Kol asked the girl he could recognize from the school despite her wearing a mask.
“I wouldn’t really call us friends,” Davina informed the cute guy.
“Kol,” he said, extending his arm.
“Davina,” Davina told him, giving him a handshake.
“Cool name,” Kol told her. “But if I were you, I wouldn’t hurt Caroline.”
“What?” Davina asked confused.
“I find it a little suspicious how someone who isn’t really friends with Caroline, suddenly shows concern about her--”
“We might not be friends but we have known each other forever and I haven’t had really time to ask her about how she is after the accident,” Davina informed him.
“Then I saw you narrowing your eyes at my brother. It could be because you have a thing for suits but I seriously doubt that.”
“Your brother?” Davina asked him. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Sure, you do,” Kol said. “So, the question is what is up with you and Elijah?”
“You’re Elijah’s brother?” Davina gulped. “That means you’re an original.”
“Not merely original but the most handsome one,” Kol smirked.
“It’s not like I chose to work with him,” Davina said. “What witch doesn’t want to put herself in danger to work with a vampire?”
“What does that mean?”
“My mother is making me work with him. I don’t really know why. We don’t really get along well but let’s just say that you don’t want to cross with her.”
“I guess in a way we’re kindred spirits then. Used by our family.”
Tyler Lockwood didn’t know what was going on with his best friend. They had their ups and downs but it was so unlike for Matt Donovan to act the way he was acting at the moment. It was usually Tyler who couldn’t stop acting on his impulses.
Tyler was trying to calm him down even after he mentioned the abuse Tyler’s father put him through and broke down the picture frame but Matt didn’t stop. Maybe it was because Caroline Forbes broke up with him but Matt was looking for a fight and attacked Tyler.
Tyler didn’t know why but he doubted it was because of Caroline. His friend never seemed serious about the girl. Caroline was hot, of course but Matt was never able to move on from Elena Gilbert.
Tyler and Elena grew up together but they were never friends. They just hang out together because she used to date Matt but to Tyler, she never deserved him. Elena was so called good girl, which made her boring but she also had this kind of superior aura in her. Matt always liked her a lot more than she liked him.
Tyler was just trying to protect himself and before he knew it, he had pushed his friend at the table close to them. He hit his head so hard that Tyler could hear his skull breaking.
“Matt! Matt! No, no, no. This can’t be happening,” Tyler yelled.
“Tyler what happened?” A shocked voice asked him.
“Shouldn’t we be finding Katherine?” Caroline asked Klaus as they danced together.
“She will find us,” Klaus answered, surely.
“But what if she leaves without giving us the moonstone?”
“She won’t.”
“How can you be so sure?” Caroline wondered aloud. Klaus was so close to getting everything he wanted but here he was just casually dancing with her instead of getting one of the ingredients to the spell.
“Why would she run away with it when she needs it to get her freedom back?”
“And will you? Get her get away. From what she said, you’ve been hunting her down for 500 years,” Caroline asked confused.
“You really think she would still be standing if I was really trying to hunt her?” Klaus smirked. “I just liked her to think I was.”
Caroline laughed and Klaus couldn’t help but smile at her. She looked even more gorgeous when she was laughing.
“Did you notice that Elena wasn’t here?” Caroline asked, looking behind Klaus where Bonnie was standing next to some woman.
“Not really. It’s hard to even think straight with you here.”
“Smooth talker,” Caroline smirked before getting serious. “What will we do after we have the moonstone?”
“We could always torture Damon,” Klaus said, making Caroline laugh again.
“That sounds like fun but he’s not important. I know I told you that I wanted revenge but I’m not sure torturing him is what I want,” Caroline explained.
“It isn’t?” Klaus asked, kind of disappointed. He was waiting forward of them torturing Damon together.
“He really hurt me but I don’t want to give him more power.”
“Then what do you want?” Klaus asked.
“I was thinking--”
“Yes?” Klaus asked, wanting her to finish her sentence.
“Maybe he should be the vampire you sacrifice when we lift your curse. I have been thinking and I don’t think he’s really the one I am mad about.”
“He isn’t?” Klaus asked, lifting his brow.
“Damon hasn’t been my friend since my childhood. Elena saw what he was doing to me and did nothing. Even after knowing what he did- she chose him . More than wanting Damon to suffer—I want Elena to know what it feels like when her childhood friend chooses someone else over her. I want to kill her precious Damon in front of her.”
“As you wish.”
“Besides... we could always torture Damon first before we kill him,” Caroline smirked.
“I love seeing your bloodthirsty side,” Klaus smirked, pulling her from her hand to bring her closer and kissing her.
“I love how you’ve always there for me no matter what. You have no idea how much that means to me.”
“Anything for you. You’re stuck with me now.”
“I am now, am I?” Caroline asked before nibbling his lower lips and they were kissing again. They couldn’t get enough of each other.
Katherine was following Stefan Salvatore but just as he walked through to a different room—Katherine smirked and Stefan turned to look at her.
“Do you think I’m dumb enough to follow you to a spelled room?”
Stefan was confused as he thought Katherine was obsessed with him. Damon was walking behind Katherine and not soon after he shot a stake at her, someone was choking Damon Salvatore by his neck—someone older than him.
“I don’t only have one,” Katherine said before lifting a finger.
“But two,” Katherine continued before lifting another finger. “Witches working with me. Besides that, I have something even better than a witch. An original.”
“Let go of my brother,” Stefan told the two.
“Let’s have a little bit of fun,” Katherine informed him before taking a bite of her own hand.
“Katerina,” Elijah stated in his no-nonsense voice.
“Don’t ruin my fun,” Katherine stated and not long after Jeremy run towards them, letting the brothers know that Katherine was linked to Elena—and everything they did to Katherine, happened to Elena.
Damon was trying to get out of Elijah’s hold but the older vampire got bored and broke his neck.
“It was so fun making you think I actually loved you, Stefan,” Katherine smirked. “Like I would love someone like you. Now to business. I want my moon stone.”
“Someone like me?” Stefan asked.
“A bore. Damon might’ve been a bore when he was human but you’re still one.”
“They don’t have it,” Kol informed them, changing the subject as he walked towards his brother and Katherine with the Claire witch.
“Kol,” Elijah said, shocked. He thought their brother had thrown him into ocean but instead here he was.
“Hello, Elijah.”

Chapter Text
“Good evening. I trust I need no introduction. Leave us,” Elijah told the girl with Klaus. Honestly, he didn’t know much about the girl but at this moment, he couldn't really care less. Once upon a time he would’ve taken this as a chance to redeem Klaus. The girl seemed like a nice girl but there was no hope for redeeming his brother.
“Excuse me?” Caroline asked the guy who suddenly appeared in the room she was with Klaus, crossing her arms. “Who are you?”
“This is my other brother, Elijah,” Klaus said, not being able to stop from smirking at his brother.
“I’m hurt, brother. You never told the girl about me,” Elijah joked when he really could care less. Klaus seemed to care about the girl but he wouldn’t rise his hopes just yet.
“Klaus?” Caroline asked.
“It’s okay, Caroline. Give us a minute,” Klaus told Caroline.
“Fine,” she said and not wanting to cause a scene, Caroline left the room and let the brothers talk.
“I’m warning you. If you even think about hurting Katerina,” Elijah threatened, lifting his forefinger to point at his brother.
“And here I thought you would want to talk about our siblings,” Klaus said, humorlessly.
“We will get to that. But I don’t want you to do anything to Katerina,” Elijah said, wanting to make sure that he wouldn’t do anything to her.
“You’re still under her spell after all this time? I already made a promise. Nothing will happen to her as long as I get my moonstone,” Klaus sighted.
“Good. Now—How is Kol here?” Elijah asked. “You told me that you had thrown all of our sibling to the ocean.”
“That might have been a white lie,” Klaus said, like they were talking about the weather.
“How about Rebekah and Finn?”
“They’re safely tugged in their coffins. Don’t worry, Elijah.”
“I want you to undagger them,” Elijah demanded.
“And what for would I do that?” Klaus wondered aloud. “Father is still looking for us. Besides Finn is such a bore.”
“And what’s your excuse for Rebekah?” Elijah asked.
“It’s for her own good,” Klaus said, narrowing his eyes at his brother.
“How so? I would’ve thought she would’ve been the one you undagger first. You two were always much closer than you and Kol,” Elijah stated, confused.
“Let’s just say—she won’t be happy how the oldest Salvatore has moved on.”
“But Kol—Really Niklaus?”
“Yes?” Kol peeked from the doorway with his head. “I heard my name.”
“Kol,” Elijah said, not knowing he would just show up in the middle of his talk with Klaus.
“You left so quickly after finding out I’m not in the bottom of the ocean after all,” Kol fake pouted.
“I’m sorry--”
“Just stop it, ‘Lijah. This is not the first time you choose whoever you decide is more important at the moment.”
“Kol--”
“Just stop it. I would rather poke my eyes out than listen to you trying to pretend to be the loyal brother. Now weren’t we supposed to get the moonstone from certain brunette? I have plans with my own brunette, you know?”
“Here’s your moonstone,” Katherine informed Caroline, holding a white stone in her hand.
“Why are you giving it to me?” Caroline asked confused. The last thing Caroline expected when she went to the bathroom was for the vampire who killed her to follow her and give her the precious moonstone.
“This might get me my freedom but I’m not dumb enough to show myself in front of Klaus,” Katherine told her, like she was stupid.
“And you trust me with it?” Caroline asked. “How do you know I won’t just give it to the Salvatores?”
“I have been watching you, Caroline. You’re still mad at your stupid friends. I doubt you will give them the one thing your new boyfriend needs.”
“You’ve been watching me?” Caroline asked, outraged as she turned away from the mirror to look at the older vampire. “That’s kind of creepy.”
“I see you’re not denying that Klaus is your boyfriend,” Katherine smirked.
“It’s none of your business what Klaus is to me,” Caroline said, crossing her arms. “It’s not like we’re friends.”
“Remember: I killed you once and I can easily do it again,” Katherine told her, walking closer to her, still holding the moonstone. “You might not want to make me your enemy.”
Once upon a time Caroline might have been afraid of Katherine but she wasn’t anymore. She had Klaus on her side and no matter how annoying Kol could be—he was kind of growing on her.
“And you might want to remember that one word for me and Klaus will destroy you,” Caroline said, walking even closer to her. She didn’t think she needed to tell Katherine that Klaus kind of had a thing for her. It was pretty much clear to everyone who had seen them together.
“As long as we’re clear,” Katherine said before extending her hand, so Caroline could take the moonstone from her.
“Crystal,” Caroline said, taking the white stone from Katherine.
“You’re not that bad, Forbes. Maybe one day we will even become friends. We are dating brothers after all,” Katherine said and before Caroline could react in anyway, she was already turning away and walking away from her.
“Brothers?” Caroline murmured to herself, looking at the moonstone. She couldn’t even imagine Kol and Katherine together. Maybe she meant the uptight brother.
Bonnie was mad. Not only had her cousin helped Katherine Pierce get away with the moonstone but also the innocent looking Davina Claire was apparently a witch. How hadn’t she known?
She walked towards the girl, Elena Gilbert not much behind her.
“What did you do?” Bonnie asked, angrily.
“What do you mean?” Davina asked and Bonnie took hold of her wrist.
“Let go. You’re hurting me,” Davina told the Bennet witch, trying to free her wrist.
“You’re a witch?” Elena asked, sounding all hurt.
“And Bonnie is a witch and you’re the doppelganger.”
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Elena asked and Davina was starting to realize why Caroline Forbes wasn’t friends with them anymore.
“Why would I?” She wondered aloud. “We have never been friends.”
“But--” Elena started.
“But nothing. Why would I tell something like that to total strangers who have never told me about themselves either might I add?”
“That’s true,” Bonnie sighted. “How long have you known?”
“That I’m a witch? My whole life. That you are? Since we were kids.”
“How?” Bonnie asked, getting mad at herself for never believing her grandmother.
“I learned all about Bennett witches from my mother.”
“How could you help Katherine?” Elena asked, getting sick of the conversation as it had nothing to do with herself.
“How could you help the Salvatores?” Davina fired back. “I heard from Kol what they did to Caroline.”
“That’s not true,” Bonnie denied.
“Normally I’d love to hear all the sides but I don’t get mixed with vampire business and as two of them are headed this way—I'm going to go. But think about this—why would she lie? She has been your best friend ever since I can remember.”
“I got the moonstone,” Caroline smirked, lifting it up, so Klaus could see it after he brought her to her front door.
“You’re amazing,” Klaus told her, smirking and holding both sides of her head before kissing her. She was laughing before their lips met but stopped laughing to moan as their lips met again and again.
“I try my best. What now?” Caroline asked, wetting her lips with her tongue.
“Now... Next full moon we can finally free my wolf and I can be whole again.”
“I’m so excited for you,” Caroline told him, jumping up and down and clapping her hands.
“You’re so cute,” Klaus told her, smiling and she couldn’t help but think how hothe looked when he smiled at her. She bit her lip and before she knew it, they were kissing again.
“Klaus,” she moaned.
“Maybe we should stop,” Klaus told her after their lips parted from each other.
“Or maybe not. My mother is working late,” Caroline hinted.
“You can stop me any time you change your mind,” Klaus told her, wanting to make sure that she knew that she holds all the power and that he wasn’t Damon Salvatore. He would never do anything to hurt her on purpose.
“I won’t,” Caroline said before going on her toes, so they could kiss again without him having to put his head so down. They were kissing passionately and before she knew it, he turned them against the front door.
“I would love nothing but to continue this--”
“But?” Caroline wondered aloud and was trying not to let her insecure thoughts get free reign. Klaus nibbled her neck.
“I haven’t been invited in.”
“Damn it,” Caroline said, throwing her head back in frustration.

Chapter 9
Summary:
Caroline is shocked to hear about the news of certain character death
Chapter Text
Caroline Forbes was putting books to her locker when someone walked towards her. She was in a good mood after her night out with Klaus and couldn’t help herself from smiling.
It was disappointing they had to stop just before things got good but maybe it was for the better. Caroline Forbes didn’t have a good track record with guys after she slept with them too early. All guys wanted was sex but when you actually slept with them too easily—they had a habit of calling her easy or a slut.
She also felt good about being able to help him to get the moonstone.
“Caroline,” Davina said, sounding sad.
“What’s up?” Caroline asked, shutting her locker door. “Thank you for your help last night, by the way.”
“My help?” Davina asked, confused. “Oh, with the vampires. It wasn’t anything big. How are you doing?”
“I’m... fine. How are you?” Caroline asked confused but got distracted when she saw Tyler Lockwood, looking all sad.
“I heard--” Davina started saying but Caroline didn’t let her finish as she was wondering what was going on with him. They weren’t friends per se but they had known each other since childhood and were in the same friend group. Well, used to be.
“What’s with Ty?” Caroline asked.
“What do you mean by what’s with Tyler?” Davina asked, kind of horrified. “I know you and Matt broke up but that’s really mean girl of you.”
“Matt?” Caroline asked, lifting her brows as she was really confused.
“You-- haven’t heard? But you used to date Matt!”
“Heard what?” Caroline asked, getting impatient.
“Apparently Tyler and Matt had a fight last night at the Masquerade and there was an accident. Matt died, Caroline,” Davina hated to be the one to tell her but clearly the blonde vampire really hadn’t heard the news yet.
“No, he didn’t,” Caroline denied. She refused to believe while she had had such a great time, Matt Donovan had lost his life.
“I thought you would have been one of the first people to know because of your history. Her mom nor your friends informed you?” Davina asked but Caroline was already walking away from her. Davina wasn’t offended as it wasn’t every day you heard someone you knew had died.
Caroline had tried to be supportive to Tyler Lockwood after walking away from Davina but what do you say to someone who literally killed their best friend. But now she had even a bigger issue; to find out why no one bothered to tell her.
“How could you, Bonnie Bennet?” Caroline asked, outraged and she couldn’t help but let a little tear escape from her eye. “I know you hate me but how dare neither of you not tell me that Matt died? I know how much Matt’s mom loves Elena, so you must have known too.”
“Caroline, I don’t have time for this,” Bonnie sighted.
“You don’t have time to discuss how one of our friends died?” Caroline crossed her arms.
“No, I don’t, OK?” Bonnie told her.
“And going to class is so much more important than Matt?” Caroline asked.
“Not that it’s any of your business but I’m not going to class. Elena is missing and I’m going to help save her.”
“Of course!” Caroline yelled, throwing her hands to the air. “Precious Elena is more important than anyone else.”
“That’s not fair, Care,” Bonnie said, sounding tired and she was tired with all the fighting.
“Care bear,” Kol Mikaelson said. She hadn’t even sensed him walking towards them because she was that upset but he put his arm around her shoulder and at this moment it was especially what she needed.
“Get me out of here,” Caroline told to the youngest Mikaelson. He might not be Klaus but just like his brother, he was there for her and at this moment Caroline Forbes didn’t care what happened to either Elena Gilbert or Bonnie Bennet.
She already knew that Elena didn’t care about her anymore but the fact that it was clear Bonnie didn’t even bother to tell her and even when it was clear that Caroline was barely holding it together—Elena was much more important. Bonnie would always choose the girl who didn’t care her friend was abused over the victim.
Caroline needed to stop seeing herself as the victim and even more—she needed to stop caring for people who didn’t care about her. She didn’t even know why she was so upset about Matt. Was it because she would miss him or was it simple because besides her mother, he was the last link to her human self?
Klaus didn’t know what was going on but he didn’t even pause after his brother texted him that Caroline needed him. Klaus was already running to his car not even a second after he read the message.
“What happened?” Klaus asked concerned when he got to the school and his brother and Caroline were just sitting outside, his arms around her. Klaus knew that something awful must have happened for them to be hugging but that didn’t stop Klaus’ jealous and possessive side to wake up.
Caroline was his girlfriend and his brother had his arms around her. He would have already been daggered or worse if it had been Elijah instead of Kol.
“Klaus?” Caroline asked taking her head out of Kol’s shoulder to look at the Mikaelson she really wanted with her.
“I’m here, sweetheart,” Klaus said and weirdly it was all she had been waiting to hear. She didn’t know how it had happened but Klaus Mikaelson had become her rock. Caroline jumped towards his arms and he was so relieved to see that even though she was sad, she was okay. Klaus hugged her tightly and couldn’t help but smell her hair.
“Thank you for coming for me,” Caroline said and somehow having him there with her stopped the tears.
“Is she going to be fine?” Davina asked after walking towards them.
“She’s going to be just fine, love but shouldn’t you be in class?” Kol asked her but it was like the couple hugging couldn’t even hear them.
“I’ll always be there when you need me,” Klaus told Caroline after taking a hold of her face and looking straight to her eyes.
“I think they’re just going to be just fine,” Kol simply said, looking at the pair. He thought he would’ve wanted to keep finding a way to kill his brother after being undaggered but it seemed like this one girl managed to actually melt his big brother and make him more likeable.
“I didn’t even know she still cared about Matt this much,” Davina said, confused. She actually thought Caroline stopped caring about the boy completely after she was turned.
“I think she’s just mourning the life she could’ve had,” Kol guessed and he would’ve been right.
Notes:
Caroline was pretty upset but at this point Caroline hasn't lost anyone she really cares about. I lost the first person in my family in 2024 and I took it probably hardest as no one in my family had died before.
I appreciate your guys comments so much. They mean so much!
Let me know if there's any prompts you guys would like to see in this fic and I might try writing them.
Chapter Text
“I should probably go home before mom notices that I’m gone,” Caroline stated as she was laying in Klaus’ bed with him, leaning to the headboard.
“I thought you said she’s barely ever home,” Klaus said after turning to look at the girl in his bed. This was not the way Klaus thought he could finally get Caroline Forbes in his bed but she had been so upset after finding out what happened to the quarterback.
“That’s true,” Caroline sighted, “but even she must notice that I’m never home.”
“I can take you home if that's what you want.”
“It’s really not. The last thing I want is to be alone in that empty house,” Caroline admitted and turned to look at her boyfriend. “I get that she’s not really a mom person and cares more about well, pretty much everyone but me.”
“But?” Klaus asked.
“I can’t believe she didn’t tell me about Matt. I don’t think she even knows that we broke up.”
“She doesn’t?” Klaus asked, confused.
“I would have to actually see her to actually talk to her. The only time we really see each other are in the mornings and even those times we fight,” Caroline admitted. “Half of the time I’m not sure that she even loves me. It’s like after dad left, she just checked out of my life.”
“I don’t believe that’s true. It’s impossible not to love you, Caroline Forbes.”
“I wish that was true but it’s incredibly easy for people to just leave me. Dad chose his boyfriend and step daughter over me. Mom chose her career. Matt chose Elena and my so-called friends chose the monster from my nightmares over me.”
“Caroline--”
“I wanted to thank you,” Caroline said as she turned to his side, to see Klaus better. “I know it mustn’t have been nice to see your girlfriend freak out about the death of her ex-boyfriend.”
“It wasn’t like I ever loved Matt, you know?” Caroline asked before Klaus could say anything and he also turned to his side. “I mean was I sad that he died? Of course. But was it more because he has been in my life since kindergarten? Yes. And this might be heartless of me but now it’s all out of my system. I will always care for Matt but I will never get over how he only ever dated me because he couldn’t have Elena.”
“None of them deserved you, okay?” Klaus asked, caressing her cheek. “None of them.”
“Am I really that unlovable that no one can love me?” Caroline asked and she couldn’t help but let a tear drop from her eyes. Before she even knew it, Klaus brushed it away with his thumb.
“Not to me.” Klaus admitted. “I love you. You’re strong, beautiful and full of light.”
"What the hell are you doing in my room?" Davina Claire asked when she saw that Kol Mikaelson was sitting in her bed when she came home.
“Your mother let me in,” Kol smirked.
“She did what?” Davina yelled. She couldn’t believe that her mother would invite a vampire inside their home, let alone an original.
“You do remember she’s working with my brother, right?” Kol asked, lifting his brow. To be honest, Davina had forgotten about that fact.
“What are you doing here?” Davina changed the subject, embarrassed. “Is Caroline okay?”
“She’s fine. My brother took her home and the last time I saw her, she was sleeping.”
“With Klaus?” Davina asked, concerned. She knew that Caroline was a vampire and all and could take care of herself but unlike Davina, she hadn’t been raised with the knowledge of vampires and the originals. Davina found it stupid as Caroline’s mom was part of the council. “I know he helped her and all but are you sure that she will be okay?”
“I think she will be fine,” Kol said and couldn’t help but smile a little bit. She might be even safer with Klaus than anyone else. “I wanted to ask how you were.”
“Me?” Davina asked, shocked. No one was ever worried about her.
“Yes, you.”
“I’m fine, thank you,” Davina answered in a sweet voice, taken back.
“Good. Then you wouldn’t mind if I took you out,” Kol stated.
“Me? Like to a date?”
“Yes. Like a date.”
“Katerina,” Elijah stated as he met up with the vampire in town. She might’ve given the moonstone to his brother but she wasn’t anywhere near safe until his brother broke his curse.
“Yes, Elijah?” Katherine asked, knowing the original had something he wanted to say.
“Please tell me you had nothing to do with the death of Matt Donovan,” Elijah almost pleaded. He really wished that his guess was wrong.
“Matty Blue? I might have compelled him to attack Tyler until Lockwood killed him,” Katherine stated, with no remorse.
“Why would you do that?” Elijah sighted.
“It might have something to do with how I didn’t like how the boy was treating Caroline.”
“What?” Elijah asked, confused. Katherine cared about this girl?
“I might have approached the girl as a game but somehow she got under my skin, OK?” Katherine stated, unpleased with this. She couldn’t believe that she actually liked the girl Klaus fancied. No one was more surprised than her.
“Really?” Elijah asked, becoming even more suspicious about the girl. How had she managed to not only put Klaus and Kol under her spell but now also Katherine, who besides him never cared about anyone but herself.
“Let’s hope Caroline and Klaus never find out or you’re dead, Katerina. Is that the only reason?” Elijah asked, deciding in this moment that he needed to get to know this Caroline better and maybe even get some help to find out what this girl was up to.
“There might have been another reason,” Katerina said.
“Like what?”
“I wanted the Lockwood boy to unlock his curse.”
“Liz?” Elena Gilbert asked the sheriff. The Salvatore brothers had rescued her from two old vampires and let her know the fate of Matt Donovan. Elena didn’t really know what happened but she knew that it was all Caroline’s fault. If she had just forgiven Damon, they could’ve saved Matt.
“Yes, Elena?” Caroline Forbes’ mother asked, confused what her daughter’s friend was doing there.
“I have something to tell you about Matt’s death,” Elena informed her. This probably wasn’t the smartest idea but she was so mad at her ex-friend.
“Oh dear,” Liz said and her face said pretty much that she remembered something. “I forgot to inform Caroline of his death, didn’t I?”
“Liz,” Elena cried.
“That’s not it?” Liz asked, confused. “What did you want to tell me?”
“It’s Caroline’s fault that he died.”
“Why would Caroline do anything to her own boyfriend. Wasn’t it Tyler who accidentally pushed him?”
“You didn’t know?” Elena asked.
“Know what?”
“Caroline and Matt broke up,” Elena informed her.
“They did?” Liz asked, shocked. She knew that she wasn’t always the best mother to her daughter but why didn’t she ever tell her this? Liz tried her best to raise Caroline but she struggled to equally work and raise her own child. Most of the time her work was more important, especially now that vampires seemed to be back.
“They did and the reason I say it was all Caroline’s fault is because--”
“What is it?” Liz asked.
“Because she’s a vampire.”

What did you guys think about this chapter? Unfortunately I don't think we have many chapters left after this one. Anything you'd like to see before the end?
I'm so bad with growing relationship growth (friendships are so much easier!) but I hope that love confession was natural enough.

Chapter Text
Rebekah Mikaelson couldn’t believe that she had almost lost a century again and instead of Klaus waking her up—it was Elijah.
“Brother?” Rebekah asked confused. “How long since Klaus daggered me?”
“It’s 2010.”
“That son of a bitch,” Rebekah told him, madly.
“I need your help with something.”
“To torture our brother?” Rebekah asked “Count me in.”
“He found a girl--”
“A girl?” Rebekah asked, confused and got up from the coffin she was in. “Klaus gets a lot of girls.”
“A girl he seems to actually care about,” Elijah informed her,
“You mean he actually--”
“Yes, and I’m worried,” Elijah told her.
“So, you’re telling me instead of waking me up because you actually missed me, you woke me up because Klaus is interested in some girl?”
“I’m worried she has him, Kol and Katerina in some kind of a spell,” he explained.
“Wait a minute—Kol is awake before me ?”
“Rebekah,” Elijah sighted. He loved his sister but her priorities could be really screwed up sometimes.
“I can’t believe you woke up Kol before you woke me,” Rebekah murmured.
“Actually, Klaus was the one that woke him up.”
“What?” Rebekah yelled. “What was he thinking?”
“From what I gathered he was worried about how you would react to the doppelgänger's boyfriend,” Elijah explained.
“So, he finally found the doppelgänger? Why would I care about who the bitch was dating? Because let’s face it every single doppelgänger has been a bitch.”
“She’s dating someone called Stefan Salvatore and I take it you two have a past together?” Elijah asked, not really knowing what happened with the two. The last time he saw Rebekah, she was still completely in love with Marcel.
“It’s almost the full moon, you know?” Caroline asked Klaus.
“I know.”
“That means you need to sacrifice a witch, a werewolf and a vampire, right?”
“That’s right,” Klaus confirmed, a little worried where Caroline was going with this.
“Can I ask you not to sacrifice the few people I actually care about in this town?”
“I’d do anything for you. Let me guess—Katherine is in this list?” Klaus asked.
“She can be in Elijah’s list. I meant more like my mom, Tyler Lockwood and Davina Claire.”
“I couldn’t sacrifice Davina even if I wanted to,” Klaus told her, mysteriously.
“What do you mean?” Caroline asked confused. “Because of her mom working with Elijah?”
“More like because if I sacrificed her, I’d need to dagger Kol again,” Klaus let her know.
“Seriously?”
“I heard he took her to a date tonight.”
“Shut up!” Caroline said, shocked but pleased.
“Really,” Klaus said, smiling at Caroline. She could be so cute sometimes.
“But there is someone we could torture before it’s time to do the sacrifice,” Caroline implied.
“Are we finally going to torture Damon Salvatore?”
“Absolutely,” Caroline smirked.
“That can be arranged,” Klaus told her.
“But before we do that I really do need to go home.”
“I can’t believe I actually agreed to this date with you, Kol. I’ve heard the stories. You’re a--”
“A psychotic maniac. But it’s different now,” Kol completed Davina’s sentence.
“How is it different?” Davina asked, confused.
“I didn’t have anything before. I lived but I also felt empty. Now I’m actually building a relationship with my brother. And I didn’t have you. You’re worth being good for.”
“Me? But we just met,” Davina stated, confused.
“I have never been in love,” Kol told her. “But that doesn’t mean I’m clueless when I see something good in front of me.”
“Sure. A thousand-year-old vampire just suddenly want to date a teenage witch,” Davina said, unconvinced.
“What can I say? I have a thing for witches. You might not believe me now but I do like you, Davina Claire.”
“And why is that?” Davina asked.
“Why wouldn’t I? You’re gorgeous,” Kol told her before putting some of her hair behind her ear.
“Hi, mom. You’re actually home,” Caroline said after she came home and put her bag down. She was actually surprised because most of the time it felt like her mother avoided coming to home.
“I am,” Liz said but didn’t seem like herself to Caroline.
“Are you OK?” Caroline asked worried as she opened the fridge and took out a drink. They might not be the closest mother and daughter but Caroline did love her mother.
“Fine. Where have you been?” Liz asked her daughter but her stature was all stiff as she stood in the kitchen. Caroline glanced her mother as she was pouring her drink to a glass.
“Just with a friend,” Caroline told her.
“With who? I know it wasn’t Elena because I saw her tonight,” Liz let her knowing, so her daughter could explain what had happened to their friendship.
“Well-- Fine it wasn’t a friend. More like a boyfriend,” Caroline admitted as she closed the cap.
“A boyfriend?” Liz said shocked. “Matt just died.”
“Thanks for letting me know by the way. Matt and I actually broke up ages ago.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Liz asked.
“When?” Caroline asked, getting mad. “You’re never home. It’s like you never want to see me.”
“That’s not true.”
“Well, that’s how it feels like to me!” Caroline yelled and put the drink back to the fridge before turning to her mother. “Dad left and even though you’re physically here it felt like I lost both of my parents. Why do you think I’m so hostile towards you all the time?”
Caroline finally took a sip of her drink and it felt like nothing she had felt before. It was like her mouth was in fire.
“I didn’t want to believe what Elena told me,” Liz said, half numb.
“What did you do?” Caroline whisper yelled at her mother. “Did you spice my drink with vervain?!”
“I can’t believe my own daughter is a vampire.”
“Elena told you?” Caroline asked, shocked. She half hoped that her mother would’ve noticed herself and half of her was scared to death about what she was going to do now.
“How didn’t I notice?” Liz murmured.
“Maybe because you didn’t care enough?” Caroline asked and was glad when the burn started to ease little by little.
“That’s not true! You’re my daughter. Of course I care about you,” Liz was the one yelling now.
“Then how didn’t you ever teach me about how to protect myself against vampires despite the fact that you’ve known about vampires for how long?”
“Since I married your father,” Liz admitted.
“But still you did nothing to protect me! How come you never told me? How come you never gave me vervain?” Caroline finally let out all the questions she had had since she was turned.
“Caroline--”
“But the most important question of all: How didn’t you notice what was happening to me under your own roof?” Caroline asked, hurt.
“I know I should’ve noticed that you weren’t you anymore but--”
“I’m not talking about the fact that I was turned. I’m talking about how you didn’t notice I was abused and compelled. Was I such an awful daughter that you couldn’t even show a little interest in me?” Caroline asked.
“Of course not. How can you think that?” Liz asked. She had just always thought that they had thrifted apart because Caroline blamed her for her father leaving them. Caroline and Bill had always been closer than she was to Caroline. Liz loved Caroline more than anyone but, in the end, it was much easier to focus on her job than listen how she was doing everything wrong at home. Liz tried her best but she felt like Caroline wished that Bill was the one who stayed with her.
“It’s clear you have zero interest in my life and then as if not being noticed wasn’t enough. I have to actually see you being best friends with the guy who abused and raped me? As if wasn’t enough that I lost my friends but then also my own mother seems to pick him over me, too.”
“Wait a minute—Are you telling me Damon is the one who hurt you?” Liz couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She had trusted Damon and now to learn that he had hurt Caroline?
“Let me guess. You don’t believe me either!” Caroline cried out.
“Of course I believe you. Why wouldn’t I?” Liz asked in disbelief. “Is he the one who turned you?”
“Technically yes. I died with his blood in my system,” Caroline told her.
“Is that why you and Elena aren’t friends anymore? Because you’re a vampire?”
“No. Let’s just say that she’s team Damon,” Caroline said bitterly.
“I’ll be honest, Caroline. I don’t know what to do with the fact that you’re a vampire but you’re still my daughter. I still love you,” Liz told her honestly and before she knew it Caroline was hugging her.
“We’re not letting him get away with it,” Liz swore as she hugged her daughter back.
“Don’t worry mom. We got a plan. I was so worried about how you would react when you found out.”
“Nothing could make me love you any less, Caroline. Now about this new boyfriend of yours,” Liz said and Caroline couldn’t help but smile at her mother even if she couldn’t help but let a few tears escape. If nothing else she still had her mother.
Notes:
I'll be honest. I hope I did Liz justice in this chapter. I wanted to keep her character as close to the show as possible especially since you guys were so worried I would be bashing her!
When I rewatched the first seasons with my friend I feel like we had such a different opinions about Liz/Caroline relationship before Caroline was turned. To me they just had difficulties to connect with each other while my friend thought that Caroline was being a bad daughter. I feel like s1 Caroline gets way too much hate. She just had so much abandonment issues and just wanted to be loved.

Chapter Text
“Who are you?” Caroline asked, crossing her arms when she saw a girl in Klaus’ place.
“You’re Caroline, I take it?” The blonde asked.
“That still doesn’t answer my question.”
“That’s just my brat of a sister!” Kol yelled from the next room.
“Where’s Klaus?”
“I’m here, love,” the man in question smirked as he walked to the room. “I have a surprise for you.”
“For me?” Caroline asked, shocked. She shouldn’t be as this man kept surprising her in a good way which was a change in her life.
“Who else?” Klaus asked, taking a hold of her hand and the other girl couldn’t help but gasp. Was her brother really holding a girl’s hand? Sure, Klaus slept with a lot of women but holding hands seemed too out of character from him.
“So your sister...?”
“Apparently Elijah woke up Rebekah for some unknown reason,” Klaus simply said. It was understatement to say that Rebekah hadn’t been happy about being daggered yet again. For some reason his siblings didn’t understand that he only daggered them for their own good. Except Finn. Finn was the only anomaly. Klaus’ oldest brother was a bore and he got even worse after falling in love with Sage.
“What’s this surprise you were talking about?” Caroline changed the subject just as Klaus opened the room and saw that Dmon Salvatore was hanging from the ceiling.
“The good thing about Rebekah being back? She’s got mean streak especially for abusers,” Klaus explained.
“How about me?” Kol yelled.
“Let’s just say here’s a gift from the whole family,” Klaus said and Caroline couldn’t help but look at her boyfriend adoringly. She loved that even his whole family seemed to be in her side, even the sister she hadn’t met before.
“Caroline?” Damon asked. He was very confused. The last thing he remembered was hearing voices around his house and when he went to look where the voice was coming from, he was knocked out and here one of the most pointless vampires ever was standing next to a smirking man.
“I need to confess that we were very tempted to start the torture without you,” Klaus said, looking at Caroline and caressing her cheek with his thumb. Caroline took a hold of his neck and gave him a deep kiss.
“Kill me now,” Damon murmured.
“You must forgive me, Damon. I must admit I have never tortured anyone before,” Caroline said before walking to the middle of the room and taking a hold of the stake laying in table. She hit it to her abuser’s side and Damon couldn’t help but yell as she took it out.
“Kind of disappointing,” Rebekah murmured after walking next to her brother in the mouth of the door.
“I’m just getting started,” Caroline said before striking the same stake to Damon’s neck. Klaus couldn’t help but love the darker side of Caroline. He loved her light but he couldn’t help but be turned on how blood thirsty for revenge she could be.
Caroline let the stake fall after taking it out again and instead of taking another weapon right away she chose to use his thumbs to press with all her strength to her eyes until his eyes were nothing more than bleeding. She let her fingers caress all the other weapons before choosing a small knife.
“This won’t change the fact that all you will ever be is useless,” Damon smirked through the pain and before he knew it, he could feel Caroline twisting a knife to his gut.
“I’m anything but useless,” Caroline said and before Damon could think of much else, he could feel Caroline gutting out the most precious part of himself—his cock.
“And now you can’t rape anyone. I can’t wait to see Elena’s reaction when we sacrifice you.”
“I kind of get why you like her,” Rebekah admitted, not gladly. She was ready to hate Caroline after the way Elijah was talking about her. And to be honest, she hated the idea of Klaus being happy after taking her happiness away every single time. That didn’t change the fact that she loved his brother and would choose him anytime.
“Caroline, what did you do?” Elena Gilbert asked.
“Do you mean what did you do, Elena?” Caroline asked and Elena’s eyes widened, knowing that Caroline knew that she told Liz.
“What did she do?” Bonnie asked.
“I tried my best to give you all the excuses in the world but telling my mom that I was a vampire? That went too far,” Caroline narrowed her eyes at Elena, ignoring the witch.
“You told Liz?” Bonnie asked Elena, disgusted. She might have hated that Caroline was turned and tried her best to believe in Elena but her telling Liz was too much.
“Ugh, okay. Can we please not turn this into a Elena and Bonnie thing. This is actually about me,” Caroline stated, sitting down in Elena’s bed and Elena blinked a few times before looking down to the floor. “By the way thank for inviting me in after I was turned. It just makes this so much easier to us.”
“Us?” Elena asked, confused.
“Yes, us,” Caroline stated before turning to Bonnie. “If I were you, I’d be I’d run to get Stefan, so you can try to save your precious Elena. I’d tell to get the abuser himself but alas that’s not possible at the moment.”
“What did you do to Damon?” Elena asked worried for the dark vampire and Caroline just smirked.
“You should be more worried about yourself right now.”
“Get Stefan,” Elena told Bonnie.
“I can’t leave you,” Bonnie said half worried and half panicked but she also didn’t want to use her powers on Caroline.
“I’ll be fine. This is Caroline we’re talking about. She’s not going to hurt me,” Elena stated but Bonnie wouldn't leave her best friend.
“Why are you really doing this, Caroline?” Elena asked and before neither Bonnie or Elena could flinch Caroline run with vampire speed to Bonnie and stuck a needle to her neck.
“Do you really need to ask that after everything?” Caroline asked back. “After everything I went through because of you . After telling my mom something that was mine to tell?”
“It’s not like she’s ever there for you anyway,” Elena said, secretly trying to hurt her. “What did you do to Bonnie?”
“Thanks for stating that fact,” Caroline said, sarcastically. “And you wonder why I didn’t want to be friends with either of you anymore. Bonnie’s fine. She’ll just wake up with a sore neck.”
“Caroline--”
“You might have missed it but I’m not girly little Caroline anymore.”
“I have been so mad at you but this isn’t you,” Elena pleaded. “I tried to understand why would you do this to me.”
“And Damon? I wonder why.”
“So, what exactly was it about him that made you sleep with him the moment you met?”
“I might have chosen to sleep with him for the first time but do you have any idea how scared I was when I realized what he was and to not have any control of my body as he kept compelling me to not be scared of him? Do you really count that as consent, Elena? Do you know how it felt knowing that he wanted to kill me but the only reason he didn’t was so he could be closer to you?”
“Caroline,” Elena said, shocked. She knew that Damon had been compelling Caroline but she didn’t realize what it really meant. Elena thought that Caroline was screaming rape only because Damon was using her for her blood and because Damon couldn’t care about Caroline the way he cared about her.
“And when I remembered the way your precious Salvatore manipulated me, pushed me around, abused me, erased my memories, fed on me, called me names and used my body without my consent—what did you do? Were you there for me or were you too busy defending him ?”
“He’s always been there for me when I needed him. I didn’t realize--”
“What do you mean you didn’t realize?” Caroline yelled. “You saw all the bites before I was even turned! Let’s face it. You just decided to turn your back on me.”
“I know I really hurt you, Caroline but you don’t understand. There’s stuff happening in my life that you have no clue about,” Elena tried to explain before starting to cry. “Everyone in my life is in danger, including you. There’s a very old vampire after me. Even before that I found that I was adopted and everything is just really screwed up.”
“And it’s all about Elena,” Caroline said bitterly. Even after Elena tried to understand how Caroline was feeling, she was making everything about herself.
“Where is Caroline?” Elijah asked his brother.
“Getting me a doppelganger,” Klaus smirked, taking a sip of his drink. He couldn’t believe help how lucky he had been to meet Caroline; someone the doppelganger had failed completely. Someone who was able to awaken his dead heart.
“What?” Elijah asked, shocked. He hadn’t really met Elena Gilbert but from what he had seen from the a far. She was kind and had a lot of compassion. “I don’t like how this girl is affecting you.”
“Is that why you woke up Rebekah? She seems to like Caroline.”
“That’s impossible,” Elijah denied.
“And why is that, brother? Why do you worry so much about Caroline?”
“Because!” Elijah yelled.
“Elijah?” Klaus questioned and Elijah sighted.
“You don’t even believe in love and the fact that a baby vampire is able change you when none of us could is frankly ridiculous.”
“So instead of being happy for me for finally being happy first time since Aurora, you rather believe a baby vampire has somehow put me on her spell?”
“It does sound stupid when you put it that way,” Elijah murmured. Klaus put his glass down and put his hands on his brother’s shoulders.
“Elijah, relax. I’m finally breaking my curse. The curse you helped out parents put on me. It’s time to let go of your regret.”
Elijah couldn’t help but let his shoulders sank. Klaus was right. He could finally stop feeling bad for keeping Klaus down as their parents cursed him and if Caroline was able to keep their brother happy—even better. For everyone on this earth.
Notes:
So this Caroline isn't all "I'm a good vampire" but I kinda like her this way. She can be good but also murderous. What do we think about this chapter?

Chapter Text
“I’m bored,” Caroline stated as Elena just kept crying in front of her. “I have better things to do.”
“Doesn’t she ever stop crying?” Katherine said, walking to the room and rolling her eyes while she did it. “Poor Elena. All by herself. Where are your protectors?”
“Katherine,” Caroline said, turning around. “How are you here?”
“I was curious when I saw you leave, so I followed you,” Katherine said and shrugged her shoulders.
“But how are you here ? In Elena’s house? Don’t you need to be invited in?”
“Let’s just say dear aunt Jenna invited me in when I came back to Mystic Falls and she thought I was Elena,” Katherine explained and thought about the time she cut John’s fingers and couldn't help but let out a little smile.
“You didn’t hurt her, right?” Caroline asked. She wasn’t close to Elena’s aunt but she liked her.
“Don’t worry, Caroline. She’s fine.”
“You know Katherine?!” Elena yelled, pointing a finger at Caroline like that was the biggest crime ever.
“We’re-- friendly,” Caroline said like it explained everything.
“But she killed you?” Elena questioned.
“That’s true,” Katherine said.
“She has still been a better friend to me lately than you have been a long time.”
“What happened here?” Katherine asked when she finally saw the witch on the floor, unconscious.
“I didn’t want her hurt despite everything,” Caroline admitted.
“You’re too nice.”
“And you still like me,” Caroline said, showing her tongue at her. Katherine might not say it but by her actions, Caroline knew that the older vampire for some reason liked her.
“So, what’s the plan here?” Elena finally asked, not liking how the vampires were in her house but were ignoring her.
“I don’t like her,” Caroline said, crossing her arms. It was clear how much the witch who was going to undo the curse liked Klaus. She didn’t like how Klaus was giving all of his attention to the other girl.
“Who?” Elijah asked, lowing his newspaper to look at his brother’s girl. It was uncomfortable to say at least to be alone with the stuck up original.
Caroline still didn’t really know what was so special about being an original. So, he was old—big deal. She was turned by an old vampire. Everyone else was doing something else; Kol was hanging out with Davina, Rebekah was sulking around about some guy forgetting about her and being daggered for like a hundred years, Katherine was probably hiding from Klaus in case he changed his mind about killing her—that left just her and Elijah. The one sibling she was stuck with was the one who didn’t seem to like her and Caroline and silence wasn’t a good mix.
“Greta of course,” Caroline stated, like it was the most obvious thing ever because to her it was.
“And why is that?” Elijah asked as he started reading his newspaper again, not really caring what she was going to answer.
“You could at least pretend to be interested if you’re the one to ask,” Caroline stated. She wasn’t going to pretend to be polite. Elijah lowered his newspaper again.
“What do you have against me?” Caroline asked because she was curious. “Is it because you think I’m not good enough for your brother?”
“Why do you think that?” Elijah asked, folding the newspaper to give her all of his attention.
“Maybe it’s because I’m only a baby vampire.”
“That’s not it at all,” Elijah told her.
“Then it’s because of my personality? That can’t be it as we have never even talked before this.”
“I have nothing against you personally.”
“Then what is it?” Caroline asked.
“I’m suspicious about you,” he admitted.
“Suspicious?” Caroline asked, lifting her brows. She couldn’t understand why he would be.
“Frankly, I think you have somehow gotten everyone under some kind of spell.”
“Hey, is that possible? For a vampire to use magic?” Caroline wondered.
“Well, no unless you’re a heretic. Were you a witch before you were turned?” Elijah finally asked a question he had been wondering about.
“Nope. I was only a human. So that’s it? You’re paranoid about your family... liking me?”
“Not just them but also Katherine,” Elijah stated and Caroline couldn’t help herself anymore and she laughed. It was so absurd about a crazy strong vampire being suspicious about little old her.
“There’s also the fact that you don’t seem to care how Klaus is about to sacrifice someone you have known all of your life.”
“Seriously? Have you even wondered why?” Caroline asked him. “Maybe things would have gone differently if I hadn’t met your brother.”
“Why do you say that?” Elijah wondered, confused how his brother could have made a difference.
“Before I met your brother, I was so used to being a second thought to everyone in my life. If your brother hadn’t shown me how I deserved to be someone’s first choice because let’s face it even though Klaus wanted to use me to get to Elena there wasn’t a moment where he didn’t put me first.”
Unknown to Caroline Rebekah walked to the room and was listening to the conversation and so was Klaus from the other end of the room.
“I think without him I would have just forgiven everyone and lived with the fact that my so-called best friend has feelings for my abuser. I would have had to keep going not only being friends with her but also knowing Elena, she would’ve expected me to keep going like Damon never did anything to me. Even now I gave her every single opportunity to understand what was done to me. But she didn’t care, so why should I care what happened to her? Especially when her death means so much to someone I love? To someone who actually cares about me?”
Elijah had to admit that he had judged both Elena Gilbert and Caroline Forbes all wrong. Elena didn’t possess compassion and kindness. Caroline on other hand wasn’t the mastermind he had imagined in his head. Caroline Forbes genuinely cared about his brother and would do anything for him.
“Caroline,” Klaus smiled. She didn’t know when he walked towards him from the witch but Greta didn’t look happy about it. Caroline didn’t care. All he cared about was the man in front of him and that he could finally become whole just like he helped her become whole.
“You didn’t eavesdrop, did you?” Caroline asked.
“Maybe I did,” he smirked.
“Hey!” She yelled and hit him in the arm with her first but couldn’t help but smile at him. Klaus couldn’t help himself after seeing her smile at her and ignoring his sibling he took a hold of her neck and bend down to give her a kiss.
“It’s time for us to go. Full moon is approaching.”
“Us?” Caroline asked.
“Yes. I want you to be with me when I break my curse but you need to promise to me that you will never let my wolf bite you.”
“Why is that?”
“My blood is the cure but I don’t want you to be hurt. A werewolf’s bite is deathly to vampires,” Klaus explained.
“Wait--what?”
“Damon!” Elena yelled, running towards the male vampire on the ground, surrounding a circle of fire.
“Elena,” Damon barely got out. He was more hurt that he wanted to admit the blonde vampire he used to compel to do whatever he wanted was able to do.
“What did she do to you?” Elena asked, worried how weak he was.
“It doesn’t matter. How are you here? You need to go now, Elena.”
“She’s not going anywhere,” A woman with curly, brown hair said as she walked towards the couple. Elena saw a rock in the ground and was running to it but before she knew what was happening, she was flying away from both her and Damon, to her own circle of fire.
“Don’t worry. At least you love birds will die together.”
“He’s not my boyfriend,” Elena said, like it was the most important part of the whole thing that was happening right now.
“Let her go,” Damon moaned.
“Why are you doing this?” Elena asked.
“To help Klaus of course,” The witch stated. “My duty is to him.”
“Klaus?” Elena asked, shocked that the old vampire they had been so worry about actually managed to not only get her but also Damon. Just as Elena said his name at loud, he walked towards them with Caroline.
“Caroline?” Elena couldn’t help but cry out.
“You’ve met my girl, right?” Klaus asked.
“W-what?” Elena stuttered. She knew that Caroline helped Elena get there but she couldn’t believe Caroline would be involved with someone who wanted her dead. After everything she had had to deal with during all the years, she was friends with Caroline. Being friends with a mean girl wasn’t easy.
“You’re together?” Elena asked and Caroline couldn’t help but smirk at her. After all the years of boys choosing Elena over her—she couldn’t describe how satisfying it was that great Klaus Mikaelson chose her.
“Oh my God,” Elena said still crying and putting her hands on her mouth in shock.
“Let’s get started,” Klaus informed her.
Notes:
So Caroline won over the last Mikaelson (as even though I love Freya she won't appear in this fic) and Elena finally found out that Caroline and Klaus are together. Next chapter will probably be the last one 😭
Chapter 14
Notes:
The last chapter. It feels like an end of an era.

Chapter Text
It wasn’t until a day after the sacrifice that Klaus was back to himself. He had wanted to break his curse for a thousand years but it meant even more that Caroline was there with him when he actually did.
Caroline couldn’t believe how even when Elena knew what was going to happen to her—she was just trying to save Damon.
“Please don’t do this,” Elena pleated. “At least let Damon go.”
“Why would we do that?” Caroline asked, lifting her brows.
“He had nothing to do with this! Caroline, you know this is wrong.”
“What I know is that what he did was wrong and how you’re always choosing him over me is wrong. How does he deserve to be saved when no one was there to save me?” Caroline asked.
“How about me?” Elena asked, letting a tear out. “This will hurt me.”
“I’m done putting you first, Elena,” Caroline stated and her pleading for Damon made Caroline even more sure that she did the right thing by choosing Klaus’ side.
Caroline was full of light, so part of him was worried about how she would react to him killing so many people. He didn’t think she even realized she was going to kill of their witch based on how jealous she was acting before the sacrifice.
“You did it, Klaus,” Caroline said, smiling next to a tree close to him. “You broke the curse. Full moon came and went. You remained a wolf.”
“I could change at will, then,” Klaus answered, smiling too. “It’s good to know.”
“You’re also naked,” Caroline stated when she finally noticed that he wasn’t wearing any clothes.
“Appears so,” Klaus smirked, walking closer to his girlfriend.
“I thought I told you to be careful that I wouldn’t bite you,” Klaus said, caressing her hair.
“And I was.”
“Then why are you here instead of in a safe place?” Klaus asked, fisting her hair and making her tilt her hair so she was looking into his eyes. He couldn’t explain why but Caroline was smelling so good to him. Her smell made him want to tilt her neck and just sniff her.
“I tried OK!” Caroline yelled out and took his hand out of her hair. “Your wolf kept following me. It’s not like I could let it follow me home.”
“It did?” Klaus asked confused.
“Yeah,” Caroline admitted, glancing down and saw that he was hard. “You’re still naked.”
“Does that bother you?” He asked.
“Not at all,” She informed him and she couldn’t tell why but she was suddenly hornier than she had ever been before.
“You’re a hybrid now,” Caroline smiled, taking a hold of his face and he couldn’t help but smile big. He had everything he had ever wanted and more. He was whole, he had his family and now he even had something he hadn’t imagined since Aurora. He had someone who he loved and who loved him back.
He started kissing her like no tomorrow and pushed her towards the tree. They both had their eyes closed and were just enjoying each other.
“How does it feel?” Caroline asked after opening her eyes and separating their lips from each other.
“Amazing,” Klaus told her and they smiled at each other. “You’re amazing. Thank you for being there for me.”
“I’ll always be with you,” Caroline stated, moving her hands again to his face.
They kept kissing and kissing. Neither wanted to separate their lips from each other's, so instead of doing that Klaus ripped off the dress Caroline was wearing. She couldn’t even care less that it was a bright new dress.
Klaus tried resisting biting his vampire girlfriend the best he could but there was an instinct inside him that he couldn’t resist. Caroline was shocked when he did but something inside herself told her to bite him to his shoulder too.
She was his and he was hers. Unknown to Klaus and Caroline, they had just been mated. It wasn’t until later than the couple realized that they could feel what the other was feeling and even communicate to each other telepathically.
The reason his wolf had followed her around was because it recognized Caroline as his mate and didn’t want to stay away from her. And the reason she smelled so good to him was because werewolves' mates always smelled like the most amazing smell, they had ever smelled to them. Caroline wasn’t a werewolf or hybrid like him, so he couldn’t feel the pull in the same way but she still felt it.
Who would have thought that Klaus Mikaelson accidentally meeting the doppelgänger's just turned friend could change everything? There was of course the possibility that in every universe they would be drawn to each other.
“I can’t believe Klaus actually did it,” Rebekah told to his brothers. “After all of these years he finally broke the curse.”
“Do you think this means that Father will come after us?” Kol asked.
“I haven’t heard about him in years. Let’s hope not,” Elijah said.
“And what if he does?” Rebekah wondered aloud. She didn’t want to start living again, just to leave everything behind again. She was tired of running away, tired of leaving the people she loved behind or being daggered by Klaus “for her own good”.
“If he does, we will deal with it,” Elijah stated.
“As a family,” Kol continued. “I refuse to leave Davina behind. I don’t see Klaus leaving Caroline behind either.”
“I hope that Klaus finally having someone, means that our brother finally lets me have a love life.”
“I wouldn’t bet on that,” Kol smirked.
Elena Gilbert opened her eyes with a shock in Stefan’s arms.
“Damon?” She asked in panic. The last thing she could remember was that they were being sacrificed by Klaus and Caroline from all people was by his side.
“Elena, it’s OK,” Bonnie tried to calm her down.
“Where is Damon?”
“He’s gone,” Stefan stated. He didn’t know how to deal with his emotions. His only brother was gone but at least he got his girlfriend back.
“You brought me back?” Elena asked.
“We did,” Bonnie told her.
“Bring him back then too!” Elena yelled.
“It’s not that easy. It was dangerous to even bring you back and John had to give his life for you to be brought back,” Bonnie tried explaining.
“I don’t care!” Elena yelled. All she knew that she was back and he was not.
When Caroline woke up, she could feel Klaus caressing her neck where he had bitten her.
“How does it feel?” Klaus asked, worried.
“Actually, it feels very good when you touch it,” Caroline admitted.
“It does?” He wanted to make sure. “It never healed.”
“Yours didn’t heal either,” Caroline said, caressing the bite mark in his neck and he could feel tingles all around his body.
“Mine,” Klaus thought and Caroline could hear it inside her head. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Caroline smiled, putting her head on his chest and kissing the mark she made to his neck.
“Did you just hear my thoughts?”
“Did I?” Caroline thought at him and he could hear it inside his head.
“Do you know what this means?” Klaus asked, turning them around, so he was on top of her.
“What?” She asked and he pulled her bottom lip with his teeth.
“We are mates and we just bonded.”
“Wait--we’re what?!”
“Soulmates. I didn’t realize it as I never thought I would have one but after I released my wolf—it recognized you as his mate. That’s why it kept following you.”
“Does that mean that we’re like married?” Caroline asked, biting her lip.
“Mating is more permanent that a marriage but basically yes, wife.”
THE END.
Notes:
I know some of you might be disappointed how I actually didn't write a real sex scene or more detailed sacrifice. But I have no actual experience of sex, so I thought writing it would be too awkward and I didn't want to write something that was in the show. Hopefully you guys won't be too disappointed and actually liked this chapter.
