Dan walked into the kitchen one morning to find Phil rummaging through his cupboards.
That would be fine, normally. A little weird, maybe, because Phil never got up before him, but fine. What was not fine, on the other hand, was Phil’s hair.
Dan considered himself to have a pretty good grasp on reality. He may wallow sometimes in a turgid mass of existential dread, but he generally knew where he was and who he was, and also what year it was.
That fact was now being called into question, however, because Phil’s hair was black.

Will had disappeared at 12, but instead of being found that same year, he was lost forever. No matter how long they searched, Will was gone. At least to the thoughts of everyone back in the normal world. The crew goes through all the normal troubles and Mike falls in love with another. Ignoring the constant ache of Wills absence.
This however gets disrupted of course by them finally finding Will after all those years. But is it really him?
