A Successful Astronaut's fan

Summary:

If society as we knew it never turned to stone, Senku would have become an Astronaut in the future.

This is an exploration of Senku's life after his adventure into the stars-!!!!

Asagiri Gen, famous mentalist and performer, has a history of inviting unusual characters to his show. 1, namely, being a high-schooler who has been in the fighting rings since childhood. This time, he and his newly appointed manager have been begging for a chance to interview one of the youngest astronauts to exist in Japan-!

(on hiatus)

Chapter 1: Planet returning reality

Chapter Text

Ishigami Senku had finally been released home after weeks of monitored physiotherapy along side his fellow astronauts. He understood the necessity, especially since it was no joke that when he re-entered Earth's gravity he felt the worst he had in his life. Physically.

It was a real pain to relearn how to handle Earth's gravitational pull, but it was thrilling to actually experience it for himself. All of it was thrilling to him. He finally, like his father, experienced being an astronaut. Even the tedious recovery from space was something that felt like an accomplishment. He wasn't 1 billion percent yet, but Senku had memorised his needed exercises and recovery plan. He would be soon enough.

But that wasn't what he wanted to focus on. He was home and he had yet to brag to his father about everything. Had yet to share stories and experiences and get welcomed back. It was finally time to reconnect over phone.

He would have liked to do it face to face- but Ishigami Byakyua was currently on honeymoon with Ishigami Lillian. Figures the old coot got married, but did he really have to go on his honeymoon whilst his son is back from space, and hospital-?

Nevermind that. It saved Senku from missing him too much, not wanting to call and ruin his father's plausible moments with his new wife. So he bared with. But now that he was free from hospital it seemed like he logically didn't have any reason to truly not pick up the phone and call. Because before he could use "I'm at the hospital- can't call yet" as an excuse. Obviously not an option now.

So Senku grabbed the phone, called Byakyua and finally talked to his father on more equal standing than he has ever felt in his life. He was excited most when his father picked up and said "So fellow Mr Astronaut, let's not get stuck on the sappy stuff- did space meet the expectations I set for you all these years-? Or are you going to nag like my mother about how much I undersold it?".

Ah. Yes- he was really able to understand and relate to his father the most. More than ever now. Space was damn exciting and now they shared it he never felt more closer to this man, despite him being all the way in America with Lillian.

................................

"Say, did anyone manage to ontact-cay Mr Ishigami since his arrival back on planet Earth-?"

He looked to his team expectantly, but didn't need to hear an answer because their body language told him all he needed to know. But he was polite, and let them professionally inform him that Ishigami Senku was still unreachable as ever.

"I see. Well don't ismay-day too much. He is a tough cookie to speak to after all! We mustn't give up hope. Some way or another I will get him on this show if he likes it or not!"

Hanada Nikki, his newest manager spoke up.

"Gen, not that I can't understand why you want to talk to him. He is Lillian's newest Step-son and everything. Plus one of the youngest astronauts to have gone to space in our country. But I can't understand your determination to have him on the show. He has no real social media presence and has never shown interest on being on TV before, despite his family being one of the newest hot topics and despite his simple youtube presence."

Gen took a moment to smile a fake, reasuring smile. He didn't really want to explain it to her, and had expected her obsession with Lillian to make her on board with this plan without much opposition. But things don't always work out in your favour.

"It's cause of his lack of ontact-cay that makes him such an alluring character. If we can get him to share his story, even the lightest-say tidbit and get him to act as an educational guest it will bring ratings up the roof!

Could you imagine the viewer count when one of the smartest, ysterious-may and even arguably attractive bachelor makes waves from appearing on my show? How engaging it could be if we have a contrast for once of science and illusion? The endless plausibilities we can have for an episode if he *just* answered an email and agreed to organise *something* with us?

Little aspiring astronauts would tune in and we could make ourselves seem more eputable-Ray, especially with inviting such a celebrity ystery-may with like- several qualifications! Isn't all that reason enough for you Nikki-chan?"

He knew he over reasoned it, but he didn't want any doubts from anyone in the room that Senku deserved to be a guest star. There was no way he would be unreachable to him. Gen just had to meet him. For none of the reasons he had listed above.

Of course his want to meet the elusive Dr Ishigami Senku was much more selfish. Infact he knew a lot of him already showed his efforts in getting any chance to meet him. Such as how Dr Ishigami is nicknamed Dr Stone for his unpenatrable ability to remain stone cold to media but show a gem like quality around the education of children online through YouTube educational videos that probably should get more coverage but as not many people look for such content, it remains unknown.

But Gen knew such things, and there was a reason for his determination to know, for his need and want meet and understand Senku in his entirety.

Logically his only way to do such a thing, was to create an opportunity to meet. And this was it.

Gen wasn't going to miss it for the world. A chance to get to know Senku. So he was going to create. So he made sure to encourage his team to continue trying and left the room.

But for now, he resigned himself to no results. He would try and motivate his team more but it had been weeks since Senku had come back to the planet and even he was a bit disheartened and unmotivated. Not that he was on his way to giving up. He was allowed to be doubtful is all.

There was one saving grace at least. Nanami Ryuusui, one of the most wealthiest people around had invited him, and many celebrities and experts to the newest model of ship he has designed. It was a party to commemorate the achievement and to announce something important that would require all this celebrity endorsement.

Select people from across the world was invited and he was surprised to be one of them. But then again, Gen had met Ryuusui once before and they hit it off. Of of course Gen did his best to have an amazing first impression, connections were everything after all. So it shouldn't have been a surprise when his management team had come to him with the news of the exclusive invitation.

He would have been excited at such a chance, no he is. It's just, when he first got it several months ago he had been excited at the plausibility of bumping into Lillian or Byakyua to try and meet Senku that way. But that was later proved not plausible when he learned that her honeymoon and leave of absence from social media to enjoy her new married life overlapped with the party in itself. So she wouldn't be in attendance anyways.

Even so, this was a great opportunity for him and his colleagues. He would take advantage of every camera he can, every trick in his books to get people on his side and his ability to manipulate situations and people to get as close to big names as he could.

His reputation and his celebrity status should hopefully only increase from then on. Not that he wasn't already quite famous, his books becoming global and his show already aired continuously for years in Japan, having several sponsorships and charity events and more in his belt.

Over his 25 years of living, he has never been more of a household name. But that didn't mean he wouldn't aim higher. He didn't want to become complacent in life afterall. Rich as he is, he had goals he wished to obtain and there was several other ways connections could do him good in this party.

He hears that Fashion Icon and Designer Yuzuriha would be in attendance with her Fiancé and it was rumoured she may know the scientist and astronaut pulling on his brain this recent year and a half.

Despite his nervousness at how to approach her organically to get to the Dr he wanted to meet so badly, he knew it would atleast be a start. It made him less disheartened at his team's continuous but understandable failures to reach Senku themselves. There seemed to be no clear, true reason as to why he was trying so hard, but that was up to Gen to know.

For now he headed towards his dressing room and desired for the party date to come by quickly because despite his busy schedule, he was bored waiting for so long.

Nikki had retreated back to her desk once Gen had left. She was honestly glad she was able to aquire this job and admired Gen's tenacious and determined behaviour that he never really showed on set. But she wasn't able to put her trust in him right now.

She had her air pods in, listening to no one else but Lillian W- No, now Ishigami Lillian. No one else but her could calm her nerves.

In all honesty, when she first heard Gen pitch at having Ishigami Senku as a guest Star, she was static. A chance to meet someone who has spoke personally to Lillian in the flesh-? Her own step-son? It would be a dream to have met him and ask about her.

Anything about her was precious and that would include her new family. Nikki was static when she learnt she had found someone to love. Her songs shared so much of it so it was almost a relief to know there was someone to return some on a personal level.

But the more she pondered about getting to know of her through the elusive Dr Stone-? The more she realised it wouldn't be much of a good idea. It would be unfair to want to speak to him for his new mother. Unfair to value him only for her. So she became disillusioned with her excitement to meet him.

Hence why she needed a reason from Gen that wouldn't just be using him for his relation to Lillian to boost their viewer ship. Of course it seemed like that wasn't just the case, and Gen was more interested in Senku's own "ystery-may" to attract viewership. But if she has learned anything from being hid manager is this. People who lie tend to go into detail and cover a lot to try and convince you that they can't be lying. It's subconscious. Gen may be a mentalist, but he didn't think that Nikki would have absorbed some of his more obscure knowledge such as that.

She was the newest hire afterall, someone more obsessed with Lillian then being interested in his expertise. But she was greatful at having such a job that didn't take advantage of her strength. Of course she doubled as a bodyguard in situations they didn't have enough around, but she liked helping manage his social media presence and workload. So she wanted to get to know what she was helping advertise a lot more. Hence she knew a bit of the mentalism he explained in his books.

It's why she knew she couldn't trust his answer. It was hard to tell if he just didn't want to talk about it or if he intentionally made up a lie because he knew that she wouldn't like the answer. But either way, she wasn't sure if she should be on board with his latest goal for the show.

That doesn't mean she won't support him. She owes him a lot for helping her gain such a respectful and well paying job so she no longer had to listen to Lillain's songs as an escape, instead as motivation during work. It was nice. So she would help him in what he needed, doesn't mean she trusted him as to why he wanted to do this though.

Chapter 2: non-negotiable opportunity

Summary:

Just cause Lillian and her Boo ain't gonna go to the party- doesn't mean they won't send someone in their place-!!!!

__________

Also the start of this fic makes my knowledge of astronomy more obvi- I know quite a bit of its history! I have an official grade in it afterall- I'm forever an admirer of Kepler and if this fiction was a stone world one I would definitely highlight my prehistoric knowledge of astronomy that the villagers would have relied on to survive- and how Senku understood what time was best to harvest and all that based on the position of the stars and ancient poetry- anyways- onto the fic-!

Chapter Text

Senku had just spent over an hour on the phone, he was never one for long phone calls but conversation was easier than ever with Byakyua. It was odd, it was normal and it was an experience. It was 10 billion percent confusing but Senku categorised this phenomenon due to the length of time without talking and the amount of space talk he had been suppressing since take off.

For 20 minutes alone he lectured about Kepler's 3 laws, how difficult it would have been for the mathematician to almost accurately calculate the distances from planets from using trigonometry without our current formulas (it took him years- also if your curious about who Kepler is- he is a mathematician who is suggested to be one of the Giants Issac Newton was on about- he figured out a lot of accuracies in astronomy using mathematics, as he trusted it more than religious beliefs about the planets) and how important the discovery of the elliptical orbit was for understanding how the satellites he helped manage needed to be operated to stay airborne.

Byakyua had teased him for his rants yet still listened like a diligent student. He still enquired about his own questions and managed to pry at how each experience made Senku feel. So much for skipping sappy stuff. Prying into his emotional wellbeing counted.

But of course his dad told him not to be silly, as evaluating the mental health of those isolated from most of society and their familial contacts would be vital at ensuring the sanity of Astronauts. And that as a teacher it was his job to ensure the kids in his care were okay.

Senku chose to ignore being called a kid- but not the incorrect nomenclature of it. Informing him that a Kid stood for a baby goat not a human child. As to which his dad told him that he didn't consider the fact he was intentionally calling him his baby goat as an incognito, sappy nickname.

"Yeah- nice try ya old coot, trying to cover your behind with bull crap like that. You had no idea, didn't you." Despite his words, his tone was soft, monotone as ever but never harsh. It could be described as melancholy if you wished.

"Haha! You always could see right through my bluff ya little twerp. Well, not so little anymore now are ya?"

"Well yeah. I'm a grown ass Adult, got my own job and everything. I'm just an asshole now."

"An asshole with a sweet heart. Say, when are you planning to make more educational YouTube videos for all those kids? I can help you figure out a teachable format if you give me the content again, its fun and dont get me wrong. I love Lillian and being in America, but my brain feels so understimulsted from the lack of work and the lack of having you around. It would be nice to help you make a video again." Of course he had to bring up the one thing that he had forgotten about as if it made him a martyr. That's an exaggeration but his heart ain't made out of gold just cause he teaches kids about science and space.

"Well Dad, I was hoping to take a break from it for a while longer. Buuuuutttt" despite no one being around to see, he stuck a finger in his ear, a habit that has yet to die "I don't mind sending you a massive email of hundreds of plausible ideas and setting you a deadline to complete lesson plans of by, maybe by the end of the year for me to have a lot to choose from for the next. That should be good enough stimulation right-?"

"HAHAHA- Like hell! Are ya trying to bring me to an early grave?"

"Isn't that what ya wanted ya old bat?"

"You asshole, be more considerate I'm still on honeymoon. Though, i wonder."

"Hm?" Senku's interest was peaked. If he knew anything it was that his father was about to have an idea of interest. Even if he was stuck doing the heavy lifting and majority of the work it had a 89.7% chance of being 1 billion percent worthwhile.

"If I do this, then you gotta do a social favour for me and Lillian. Think of it as a condition for my labour."

"Oh? And what would that be Dad? You never set conditions that wouldn't be irritating as hell for me. Maybe before you blame me for bringing your death day earlier you should consider what actions caused such a reaction from me."

"Ha! Get over it. You always start these things anyways. They're my reactions, your the one who catalysed the products. Hm. That was probably a lucky analogy."

"Eh, it was an attempt, an appreciated one."

"Thank ya Senku, ya baby goat."

"No problem, also your such a kid. Blaming me on who started things."

"Look at who is using the wrong nomenclature now."

"Case in point, and you know what I mean. But we got off topic. What's the condition you need me to fulfil? You said it was a social favour so is it to do with Lillian's fame? Your own obligations as an astronaut? Or what?"

"You were on the right track with Lillian. She was invited by this Nanami Ryuusui character, eccentric as hell. Told her to come on to this boat party of his, a real rich kid. Can't take no for an answer. Though oddly enough he seems less spoiled and more hardworking with cheat codes. He insisted that if she couldn't come then to have someone else who could be closely related attend in her place. Like a manager or family member or something."

"So you want me to go in her place as her Step-son. Yeah, minus 1 billion points to your favorability right now. That sounds like social hell."

"It is, but at least you won't be alone. If you kept in contact with anyone during space and your time in the hospital recovering from gravity, you would have known that Yuzuriha and Taiju are going to be there too. It would be nice if you can hang with them whilst representing our family for once."

"So social hell with the escapism of childhood relationships with the sappy couple. Fine. But don't expect the lesson planning is all your going to be doing for me you leech. Hundreds of them won't make up for my bordem."

"I expect nothing less Senku. I'm willing to to do your homework for you too"

"You couldn't handle my homework if you tried, and that's irrelevant. Also Hey! Who said you got to choose what extra stuff you could do! I swear, your really a leech if you think you can get off this easy."

"You were the leech first. I had to raise you and spend so much money for all your little experiments. That's gotta count for something." Byakyua's voice took a sentimental turn. He was really bad at this "no sappy crap" thing. But Senku had no ill feelings or lament towards it.

"Then I'm your favourite leech. And anyways, I paid you back for that by helping you pass the tests to be an astronaut you dumbass. We're even from that time."

"Yeah. I guess so. So then Senku, what do you want me to do as extra?" Senku paused a moment. Well, exactly 12.7 seconds. He mused over what he should make him do as extra. It was set in stone that he would go. He wouldn't miss a chance to catch up with his favourite people in the world.

"I want you to send me pictures of you and my new mom, once a day, of a happy moment. And don't look too much into it, I suddenly decided to look into research on happy marriages and how romantic events seem to diminish as time goes on. It's for data purposes only." Bullshit. But that was fine, his father understood the poorly concealed message. He just wanted assurance he was doing alright without the need to hear all about it later as the pictures should give enough context. It was sweet of him and Byakyua made the decision to not press him on it.

"Of course Dr Astronaut, I shall make sure to send you only the cheesiest of moments."

"You don't have to go that far. Always the over achiever."

"Hmm. Ya know how I am. Anyways I'm guessing I've taken up enough of your time. You need to get back to researching relationships was it? I heard of this mentalist he could hel-" Senku cut him of from his teasing.

"BYE you old coot."

"Hahaha-! Bye YA baby goat!" For once it was Byakyua to hang up as Senku stared at the phone. The reality of what he gotten himself into hit. And the fact he had no idea about the time and place of the event. But Lillian to the rescue, he just received a text with all the details of the event. It looked like she had either overheard the conversation or his dad asked her to send it to him. Either way that was one problem solved. But not all of it. The requirements for such a bit fancy social event was not lost to this socially inept crazy scientist slash astronaut. He secretly attended enough of Yuzuriha's events to be aware of that. The only issue is most of his outfits had been rentals, one time gifts from Yuzuriha that he wouldn't risk getting messy out at sea (or whatever waters this supposedly eccentric rich boat man would sail) or was just his Space suits or his lab coat. It seemed that he would have to contact Yuzuriha before the even in itself then. Who else would help him in such a fashion dilemma?

His only grievance is that she could make them all match and it would be 1 trillion percent embarrassing. But if he knew her, which he thankfully did, he knew she wouldn't make him suffer needlessly when he would already be suffering from the scale of the event.

So one of the next items on the agenda was to call her now. But maybe he would save that for tomorrow. Senku already had a long winded chat with his dad, he wasn't in the mood to do that again so soon. For now he intended to do some of his physiotherapy. It would suck if he went to the party to only be unable to stay upright after a while because he neglected his physical health after all. Not that he truly cared much for his physical health, but he was sure everyone would pester him about it if they saw him in such an event looking worse for wear.

______________________________

Lillian was currently styling her hair, following a video. She had so many people style it for her that she almost forgot how to do it herself. So she had been taking the time to follow hair care routines. Byakyua had been chatting away on the phone for the past 30 minutes so to allow them their precious catch up time, she took advantage of it and was now trying to braid a fish tail that looked as good as her stylist made it. It was an unrealistic goal but by the time she managed one half of her head to the standard she wished it made her ecstatic. Take that Millie-! She can do it just as nicely as you. Of course in a much longer time frame, but who was counting? Senku was unaware of it so he wasn't counting the seconds.

She chuckled thinking about it. It always seemed a bit odd that he would count every moment of everyday. She understood the convenience of it, and even necessity if, I don't know, suddenly the wold was in a situation where no clocks or technology could survive. Like if society... turned to stone! A crazy and silly thought in reality. But other than something so impossible it just seemed like a neat thing to brag about in parties. Though it kept Senku comfortable and she could appreciate that.

Honestly she's glad that Byakyua's son is such an intelligent man. His blunt nature, the way his eyes light up at a new discovery, the way he was socially inept at times reminded her so much of her Byakyua. It made her proud to consider him her son just as how Byakyua was now her husband. Of course she had yet to officially get confirmation about being able to refer to him as such. Senku had been so busy so she hasn't had much a chance to bond and even ask. Even so, the times they did meet she was honestly excited at the fact he was so much like Byakyua. And for Byakyua she would sing a song so beautiful it would convince an entire nation to support him. So she found herself feeling that she would do the same for Senku.

Using her talents and money to support him. He was her kid now too afterall. Heck she was just as much his mom as Byakyua was his dad. 100% because blood had nothing to do with it! It was their shared ideals instead.

No one quite knew what drove her to be such a big star except her family. She loves discovering new countries, new faces and new ways people can connect through the beauty of her music. She experimented with her songs to convey certain messages and support once she realised her demographics included a lot of trouble kids. She loved doing research on what she could do best.

Of course market research, product testing and preforming was not that similar to Scientific research, scientific theory testing and experimenting. But there were still parallels and the determination and drive for it was just as similar. It made it much more easier to connect with this family, so open to science and learning.

So much easier to fall for her now husband and wish to claim such a smart child as hers aswell. It was odd. She felt such a motherly instinct that she wanted to ensure Senku's continued happiness before she even thought to try having kids with Byakyua. In her eyes her son must be securely happy first before a new child could enter the picture. It was one of the things that drew Byakyua to her. Her ability to prioritise what she thought mattered and uphold her morales was admirable.

But like Byakyua would tell Senku, sappy stuff can wait. She gave up on her hair, it could be a challenge for later as an hour had already passed since Byakyua had been on the phone with their son. She wanted to go over and be a part of the conversation, or atleast be in the vicinity. She gave them their privacy but she knew she was no longer a stranger in this family, she could be involved as much as she would like and they would encourage her for her confidence.

So with half her hair done, she wondered into the room, Byakyua hadn't even noticed her as he laughed, finsihing up the call. Lillian made sure he noticed her and proceeded to sit comfortably on the couch, wating to see if she could have the chance to talk to Senku. But she quickly realised it may not be one of those calls. It was fine that she didn't see an opportunity to talk herself. She was happy to just hear Byakyua laugh without half the context to the conversation. Though her husband then steered the conversation into Senku representing them both at Ryuusui's ship party. And before hse knew it, she rushed into her room once more, grabbed her phone, came back into the room with her husband and started formulating a text to Senku with all the details. Once Byakyua was done, catching his breath from laughter she had managed to finish giving Senku a satisfying amount of context and information about the event. It should come in handy to him which was what she hoped. "So Lillian- Excited to watch Senku on TV some point this year attending a big social gathering where he will have no choice but to make his presence known?" "Of course! It's going to be so exciting seeing him try and handle my element! Maybe I can send him some tips on how to ensure the media doesn't pry too much into his personal life. Or maybe I can research the most attractive aspects people his age find and see if we can get him to act in such a way where anyone will consider him a top bachelor-? Pff- no no- he would never fo that. But this is my expertise- it can be a chance for me to help him out if he needs the help!" "It would be- and honestly it'd be a riot to see Senku struggle to put on a perfect persona just to get the ladies and guys interested. But like ya said, that's not what our kid is like. Hell would sooner freeze over than Senku being intentionally popular with people in that aspect. Though I think it would be a great thing for you to help him with as I will be a bit too busy to offer any assistance. It sucks he knows I was a teacher at times. Now I'm stuck doing lesson plans for ages until he is satisfied with my labour." "Haha- as long as your not making lesson plans whilst we go on dates I think it will be fun. But yeah- I would love to help him with this. Though I don't think I should reach out to him about it yet. Senku probably needs to recharge his social batteries. Who knows how much he can handle right now after days of nurses and doctors testing him to ensure he is alright after space. Plus he just willingly called you on the phone. He must be too exhausted to hear any of my tips and tricks." "Most likely your 1 million percent right. Though I do think he can be comfortable at seeing one more text for the day though." Lillian hadn't even notices but Byakyua had managed to approach her. She was enveloped in his arms as he placed his chin on her head- putting his phone at the perfect angle for a selfie. Wait- selfie? In her flustered surprise she barely had time to react and pose as she had grown customed too thanks to her celebrity life. It was a cute photo, Lillian obviously taken of guard and not even facing the camera properly. Her unfinished hair on display and lack of make up. Byakyua thought she looked adorable all surprised. Himself grinning like a lovesick fool in the photo. "Why so suddenly? I didn't expect you to take a picture." She looked back at him and questioned. She rarely wasn't ready for a photo and she usually wasn't so unkempt for it either. Byakyua just squeezed her close and explained Senku asked to get pictures of the two of them every day, being happy together. To just ensure that they were doing well. So, relaxing in his hold, she took the phone from him and sent the photo to Senku herself. There's no harm in her own son seeing her with unfinished hair afterall. After that they chilled for a while. The day had only just started afterall for them. For Senku it was probably 10 pm. She was happy to have such a great start to the morning, chilling with her husband on their getaway from people. She hoped that Senku would have such a happy start to his day when he got up in the morning like they just had, being surprised with a phone call by their son and relaxing together like an old married couple.

Notes:

Wow- look at me trying to establish family dynamics! I may have a step mom but I have never met her, don't wish to either- so idk how accurate my depiction is but hopefully Lillian seems like a good step-parent. And I couldn't help but add banter between Senku and Byakyua- it only seemed natural!

But I wonder now, how many of us are excited as me to have Senku go to a party with Gen? What if I made them dance-? Hehe. I forget the power I can have as a writer lol.

Chapter 3: The News Catching on!

A short chapter of society getting excited about the newly announced Party-!!!! So many celebs on the guest list- and even some experts in fields relating to ships and sonar. I wonder why?

Hehe- Nanami is so extra- when you all learn why he is holding a party over this newest ship model I hope it will seem as over the top and sweet as I intend it to be.

Chapter Text

"Hello everyone, Welcome back to NHK, the news channel here to bring everyone up to date with the current events and latest releases. We are glad to be back and we hope everyone is having a wonderful morning.

We couldn't wait to go live and talk for today as we have just been given exclusive news by Nanami Corporation that their heir Nanami Ryuusui has got an important announcement. He is hosting a party to say it in the company of big celebrity names such as Yuzuhira, the quickest fashion success since Gen Z Minimalist trends. This exclusive event, that we have been given the luxury of an invitation to bring it to you all, live, straight to your homes, is quickly proving to be the event on the year.

Nanami Ryusuui had privately informed us to go ahead and inform the masses that the ship he will be hosting this event on has largely part to do with his announcement. It will be the latest model and hinted to be a perfect modern and retro ship hybrid that will reinvent views on what is better for generations to come.

We were informed by him in person after he decided to bestow upon us the luxury of an in person conference, we had several of our members attend to get all the details we could. If you would like to see our privileged interview with one of the Hotest Bachelors in Japan as we know it, feel free to check on our YouTube where it is freely available. Our precious Minami Hokutozai personally lead the collection of all the details for us. Managing the questions as expertly as ever.

Speaking of, let us continue to Miss Minami who is currently at the scene of a hospital. We have all recently heard of the valuable relivation that Tsukasa Shishiou, popular MMA fighter, has a sister who has recently woken up from a deep coma. We all have sent him and his sister well wishes. We all hope for her speedy recovery and that Tsukasa who has been shouldering this burden alone will be given as much support as he needs. But this isn't where the story ends. He recently has reached out.

We were told that he is ready to share his side of the story. So our reporter Minami Hokutozai will be heading to the hospital shortly, to talk to him about it live.

I will settle this disclaimer right now however. We will not be recording Tsukasa's sister, nor shall we pry into her recovery or history. We shall only talk to Tsukasa and how he has felt these past years being his sister's sole supporter. This is both due to his sister still being a minor and our own morales. So anyone curious about her I am sorry to disappoint but we will make no guarantees of anything you haven't heard of about her before.

But this doesn't mean we not have an exclusive interview with one of the strongest here in Japan. We have been graciously invited to talk and I hope we all can enjoy what he has to say. And for all those curious, it shall be done at the hospital due to us not wanting to profit on his time too much. We hope he shall have as much time as plausible to catch up with his family and I hope this is the same for all the viewers at home.

Now onto Minami Hokutozai, meet her at the hospital for an interview with another popular Bachelor, Tsukasa Shishiou."

"Hello everybody! It's me, Minami Hokutozai here at a hospital! To avoid any issues with crowding, which one it is shall remain disclosed. And currently, I have been directed to a private room with none other than the handsome Tsukasa, who I must admit, is quite undersold for his natural charm."

"You flatter me, thank you for coming all this way Miss Minami."

"It was my pleasure! So I have several questions, would you like to get into them now or have some small talk first? Whichever is most comfortable fo-"

A soft click was made as the TV screen faded to black.

"Ooooring-Bay!"

"Hmm. Well not really thhhaaat oring-bay, it is no secret that it's nice to hear all about the juicy details of Minami chan flirting with the ovely-lay Tsukasa chan. I hear they get along quite well in private from some of our gest stars and many fans seem to ship them. It is the interview itself that is not too enjoyable to watch. We already heard a lot of deats about Tsukasa Chan's life outside of his fights. It's nice he is comfortable talking about what it's like to do them to support his sister but it's not what I want to focus on right now! I just can't believe Nanami chan finally revealed the big party and the news is barely antic-fray about the ignificance-say! I hope social media has a better response because otherwise I am going to worry this was all a big flop!" His hands scratched at his hair- his stress not being hidden as his body language conveyed it. The way he slightly bounced on the heels of his feet and the way he groaned in impatience only highlighted the anxiousness he felt growing. Nikki placed a measuring hand on his shoulder. It didn't help for his mood but it did help with calming down his frantic movements.

"Nikki~~chann~~! So unfair! How are you so calm?"

"Oh, because, uhm. One of us has to be the bigger person, or we will never get anywhere. I learned that in life the hard way."

"Sigh." He let his arms droop and face turn from frantic to sour to defeat " Your right Nikki chan~ I just have to trust that the stans and fans are just as excited as I am about all of this. Or what's the oint-pay in going?"

"I thought you were mainly going to recruit that Senku guy-" "That may be true, but that doesn't mean that i won't try my best to network and be seen on camera by a larger audience-yay to help boost my esence-pray and hopefully gain views from new urious-cay on lookers." "Well then, since you seem to already be in a networking mood, we can go straight to the PR team and get them to release a post to your public socials. Showing of your excitement on being invited there to stir up our fanbase and get them excited ourselves."

"That would be the smart thing to do, wouldn't it? But I can't do it- not before I have a cola. All this work and stress so early in the morning is making me crave one."

"You and your cola. Is there not a healthier drink you like?" She sighed and offered a soft smile "There's some in the staff room, we had a feeling you would get some sort of emotional and stocked up for you."

"Waaa- you all are just so sweet! I'm going to go there right now and take advantage-yay of it! Thank you!" Gen gave her hand an appreciative squeeze before running off to enjoy his beverage. Practically ditching her at the promise of a drink.

He really appreciated everyone for knowing him so well. For getting some ready for him when he wasn't at his best. Though he did feel slightly bad for running away from Nikki just now. It's just he didn't want to be reminded of work.

It's silly he knows, he is literally supposed to be abouring-lay as he rushed to the staff room, but he couldn't help it! Eriously-say! He needed a moment to himself to relax and collect his game face.

He is a professional but the days he spent labouring has really made his social battery deplete. It was the worst. He likes talking to Nikki, she is a good manager. But if he couldn't have some me-time to drink his Cola he fears he will dislike her strong presence and that won't do! She is the best manager he has had in ages.

Thankfully as everyone was busy preparing the studio, the set and getting ready for the next guest, the staff room was perfectly empty. So, he took one relived breath and he grabbed his drink. It was perfectly placed at the coffee table at the bedt sofa in the room. He then kicked back on the sofa and let himself relax. The first time in a long while.

It was good to do this every once on a while. To not feel suffocated and to not feel too overworked, stressed or overwhelmed. To lay back on the sofa without a care, like a lazy teenager, taking out his phone to scroll over social media.

Just because he didn't want to talk about doing, or actually do work at this moment, didn't mean he wasn't genuinely curious about the stir of social media about the reveal of the party.

So with childish curiosity, a cola in hand and plans on not getting up until Nikki comes in telling him he has to head to the social media team right that econd-say, he opened the most interesting social media, known for the more extreme responses of people. Twitter. (As no one will call it X).

I mean it's fine- just- don't get ahead of yourself? Like- let her chill with her hubby a bit longer. She doesn't have much obligation to come back just for one announcement.

Gen-San though- I bet he will be there. I wonder how our favourite mentalist is going to interact with big shots?

Everybody! I have recently met with a special News Outlet. If you can't get enough of me then hop on to NHK tomorrow and find out why i have given them the special privilege of my precious time!

[Posted bellow in a reply to himself is a picture of him posing. It is taken by someone else as his hands are free, one hand holding a new pirate like hat and the other in his signature position after he snaps his fingers. He looks excited, a gleem in his eyes that screamed want. He was staring as if what he wanted was behind the camera. At the photogropher or whomever took it. The picture angle seemed to be taller than normal. In the replies several are speculating as to why. Is his butler no longer working for him? Is there a new someone in his life who took it for him? Are they just over analysing an image? Most probably.]

After a while of scrolling through similar posts Nikki came in, interrupting his peace. It was time to go.

"Already?"

"Gen it's been an hour. You were supposed to meet with the team 25 minutes ago. We are behind. I hope the you time was nice because now to remain on schedule we will be missing lunch."

"NO FAIR-!! NIKki~~~~chaannnnn~~!!! This is a avesty-tray!!!! I can't miss my lunch!!! Its the best part of the day!!!"

_____________________

Gen's did not become any better after that point. He had to rush to catch up to his schedule all because he doom scrolled a little too long. It wasn't fair though. Nilki never told him how long until he had to go. He expected her to come and inform him when he had to get ready. It wasn't the first time and he was already used to her doing such a thing. But Nikki had to go an inform the PR team of the change of plans, hence she couldn't as normal. Though it was still on him for running away from her before she had a chance to make him aware.

At least he was able to enjoy himself a bit with the hard earned Cola. It didn't change the fact he felt like he was worked to the bone. The amount of photo retakes for his own social media post was excessive as well as the make up they spent 20 minutes applying on him. That and the several hours with his team talking about ideas for their next show. The script was almost done and that was great for preparing ahead of time. But he needed to go and organise both a charity event and a telivision apperance for later to then fund for the newest script whilst maintaining both his public relations, his tv personality and his care for those less fortunate.

But a lot of time was spent all for a good photo. And later more on the wording, all for a good post to inform his fans that he was, in fact, attending as well.

That day he managed to leave quite late and went to bed as soon as plausible. The things he did for fame. It never was lost on him how excessive the processes of advertising could be. Nor was it lost on him how hard it was for his company to do the same. How they managed to support his work and his personal request to contact a certain astronaut was a mystery. Maybe it was why Senku was so hard to contact. They just don't have the free time. Maybe they should hire a few more people.

Though despite that realisation, he still didn't even realise the sigh of Nikki who had to clean up his mess, his late schedule and the empty bottle of cola he abandoned in the staff room as he rushed to make up.

Honestly she should get a raise soon.

Notes:

YA know how in the anime it was 2019 when the world turned to stone-? Well this takes place in 2026- 7 years later-! You may have guessed because I mentioned Gen is 25 in this. His birthday wasnt even too long ago in the story- and Senku is 5 months into being 22.

Chapter 4: Matters done solo

Summary:

Senku has a dilemma. Since he can't rely on his best friend, matters have fallen into his own hands. But he has no sense of formal wear. Eh, no harm in trail and errors. And suits shouldn't be too hard to choose. BUT WHY THE HELL ARE THESE ALL IMPRACTICAL TO A FAULT!!!

Unable to breathe Senku needa a second opinion. But wait? That face over there. It's familiar. Someone he has seen in a book. Ah. A Mentalist. Maybe he could use him for help.

Chapter Text

An optimum start to the day. The weather is adequate and having so much free time for once in a while, Senku could actually sleep in.

Normally he would be itching to go to the lab, to do astronaut training- hell to visit his dad in America who seemed to be there more time than he has been here with Senku over the years. But with orders of strict rest and to follow his extensive recovery plans, he has been given an extended paid leave. It was a new experience.

Of course it wouldn't stop him doing what he loved. So as soon as his body was strong enough to hold a pencil he requested paper and did arithmetic, made diagrams of more simple processes such as the harbour process and even did nomenclature of more complex hydrocarbons reacted to form with several functional groups.

He was at first restricted as to how long. Straining his deteriorated muscles would do him no good. But it helped keep peace and his doctors slowly let him continue until most hours of the day he was drowning in instruction sheets. Of course some had to be disposed of due to the confidentiality of the information. But the rest? He planned to send them to schools for revision materials. He would rather not waste such accurate information after all and they were too simple to be released to his work place. It was basic information and silly practice.

But now? Now that he was home? He didn't need to do that. He had his computer to search and read the latest studies. It wasn't much but it was a nice past time before bed. He realised this just last night when he spent 4 hours just catching up with what he missed on. The newest thesis' made, the latest studies, all the new lectures being given by coworkers and those he recognised the talents for. All of it. Of course he barely scratched the content. It was just to learn what he could read to stimulate his brain and sratch the itch in it for knowledge.

It was a much better use of his time, from simple revision to learning new content. Much more fun. But as a result he didn't get off the device until 2 am. Not the latest time he has slept, but as he was pampered in the hospital with a steady sleep schedule he found himself exhausted. So for the first time in a while, he slept well past his regular start of the day. Now a luxury he could enjoy without work, without the need to get up for a physical or test or an exercise.

This did mean that when he finally woke up, groggy and well rested, he was itching to do something. So like a good boy he got up, grabbed the assistant equipment provided to him by his team of physiotherapists and got started on his exercises. After all, it was best to exercise first thing in the morning when your most motivated.

He started with a simple ankle strength exercise. A few sets of rolling his heels up so he was on his tip toes, then rolling them back down to a normal standing position. It was simple, but when your ankle muscles are weak it can be quite physically demanding after a few times. He was permitted to use something in front of him for balance, but not for assistance to go up on his toes and back down. Though, Senku didn't use anything. His balance wasn't something targeted by low gravity, only his strength.

He religiously followed the instructions given to him. His practically eidetic memory made it so he didn't need to rely on a list of exercises to know what he needed to do.

So after he completed his reps he started on the next exercise, then the next and the one after that. Until all the muscle groups he had to target today had gone through the correct level of movement for his current stage of recovery. He opened his phone and made a note in an app to record what he has done and for how long. He wished to ensure he could record his progress based on how much he did his prescribed exercises. It was his way of motivation, being able to draw data from it all in the end allowed him to not want to skip it. That and he enjoyed the full astronaut experience to the end. Even the sucky recovery period.

Once he was done he went to his bathroom to complete his basic hygiene. And after that, Senku chose his outfit for the day. He didn't quite know why, but he has grown a taste for oversized jumpers. So he threw a peach coloured one over a t-shirt. Pairing it with black trousers and was ready for the day.

He left for downstairs and didn't even check the fridge. He knew there was nothing in it. He just came back from hospital. There would be nothing. He hasn't really been home in months. It was quite odd coming back to the still appartment. He left everything tidy and despite the dust, nothing had changed. Hm, eerie could be the better descriptor here. He had realised just how lifeless his place was in retrospect. He would have to change that, maybe get a robot or two. A roomba was 1 thousand percent on the table. Maybe even see if he could get a plant. A catus would be the most efficient to keep. Not that much of a hassle and would work in the appropriate humidity of the area.

Eh, it didn't matter much right now though. He needed to handle his sustenance if he was going to deal with the day. So the ordered in. Buying both groceries and breakfast.

It was the logical thing to do. He wasn't being lazy by not going out to the store nor from not making food for himself. He just knew he shouldn't strain his muscles quite yet with carrying any groceries all the way home. He was on his own right now, Yuzuriha and Taiju were at their own private place and his dad all the way in America with his step-mom. He had no one to help him with anything so relying on what he could as an independent person at the moment was most logical.

It sucked as operating as normal was much harder without any assistance. It was necessary as he couldn't just ask anyone to be on his beck and call. He was too socially awkward for that and hiring someone would be too embarrassing. He wasn't dependant just yet. He would wait until he was senile to get a care giver. It's not like he had anyone to fulfil that role for the future anyways. No kids, no lover and he wasn't exactly looking. He wasn't exactly interested in any of the girls, who asked him out.

There was a Doctor who once tried. Her name being Luna. She was part of the crowd who were seeing him off before he went to space. She asked him to be her boyfriend once he came back. He saved her the hope and declined her on the spot. There was nothing pragmatic about the request and nothing that enticed him about her.

Anyways. Enough of that crap. There was no way he was going to reminisce on the fact he was single. When everyone around him seemed to be in a relationship. Damn he might need to get new friends. He only seemed to be close to his coworkers, Taiju and Yuzuriha. And obviously his parents. Maybe he won't feel any complex if he had some single companions. He had the time now to make them. But who really had the motivation for that?

Though speaking of friends. He really needed to get onto calling her. Yuzuriha was his best bet on finding a decent outfit for this thing he was now deadset on going to. In a celebrity get together he knew he should dress well. There was no way in hell that he would embarass Lillian with something as trivial as an outfit. He was representing her and he would do it right. As otherwise there wouldn't be any poin-

Oh, the door. Groceries were here.

Senku opened the the entrance, grabbed his items and quickly let the bags fall to the ground, just slightly into the hallway inside his apartment. He wasn't going to carry the bags to the kitchen, he planned to painstakingly take what he could reasonably carry at a time. This would keep his arms from straining from the weight.

Though he didn't forget to tip the man at the door. The guy brought all of this up to his place and Senku wasn't much of a crude person to atleast not pay him for his troubles.

And once the delivery guy up and left, Senku began the slow process of replenishing his cupboards, fridge and freezer. The pantry would be for another day. It took him nearly an hour to bring handfuls of items and go back to grab more, repeating the tedious process. Once done, Senku was vigorously exhausted. Sitting at his dining room table and taking a bit to recover. Strenuous activity was still difficult but it wasn't unbearable atleast.

Though now was the actual challenge of food. Senku wasn't anything remotely close to a chef. He understood the basics of food and could try to whip something up. But this man was ever pragmatic.

He knew he would be too exhausted to slave away in the kitchen. And as such prepared beforehand. The simple breakfast he bought was in a bag, laying in wait for his consumption.

Inside was some onigiri and tamagoyaki. He helped himself to the good fuel and ate in the silence of his home. A simple breakfast that gave high energy through carbs and high protein. Something his dietitian, who is working with Nasa's returned astronauts, to ensure they were eating well, recommended to help with recovery.

Senku finished his onigiri. He knew he should call Yuzuriha now. He was aware very soon she would be heading to work and he didn't want to interrupt anything she was working on. If he interrupted her flow he would feel guilty. So blaming his weak heart, he begrudgingly didn't procrastinate and pressed dial.

___________________

This was unfortunate. He miscalculated the availability of Yuzuriha and her ability to assist. The broadcast gave her exclusive coverage, of course she would gain a higher demand, more recognision, less time to help him and a need to stay busy until the event comes around. Normally Yuzuriha would help him out by allowing him to rent one of his designs to show it off, at a discounted price. Their agreement so that he would still be able to ensure he isn't freeloading of her work and that she is still able to assist a friend without a greedy mindset. She normally would help him choose what's best in style or what he could reasonably be comfortable in despite the formality of the occasion. It's how he was able to be presentable for his Dad's wedding and for other events. But now she was busy? There was no chance of her being able to take the time to do this. And Senku wouldn't let her spend time on him, now that he realised just how busy she was. It would be fair to her brand or business. It wouldn't be fair on her. And normally Senku wouldn't care too much about ethics if it was something reasonable, but to him this was out of the question. He wouldn't guilt Yuzuriha into helping him when she would only suffer as a result. So it was telling that the subject of his clothing was now up to his own devices. He was probably screwed but that is fine. There's staff who should be able to help him pick something reasonable. But ugh. Talking. Well he knew that he needed to anyways so what's the harm. Would save him future embarrassment even if he hates every second of it. Senku stuffed his face with the remaining egg dish of his breakfast. Then left to the livingroom. He needed to fully rest and recover from the groceries and then he would need to use secondary data to accurately calculate the least crowded, high quality store that provided both rentals and normally bought products that would be guaranteed to have good designer wear. That way he can rely on those rentals on any other occasion as a back-up. Just if Yuzuriha is unable to help again at a later date. He really should have considered this plausibility sooner but he didn't, that was on him. And he also needed this place to sell designer and not just rentals as he bet there was no way he could get away with a rental in a Nanami Corp party. Even if it's just a boat party it's guaranteed to be grand. This was just too much. Annoying as hell but at least he could do some research to kill some time and relax. And with that research then go to the best place for the occasion.

_____________

It had been 4 hours, it was now 2:27 pm. Senku was currently in a taxi, being driven to a decently secluded tailor and clothing store. It was dedicated to event ready clothes and wouldn't be too populated now that it was several days past Golden Week. It also means that several more reputable designs left over were most likely on a discounted price. Of course Senku couldn't guarantee that so he didn't take that as fact, but it was good enough for him. It wasn't too far from his apartment either, so he wouldn't have to pay the more expensive taxi fairs. It was the best he could find close by and in such short notice. He wasn't trying to rush, but if he could get everything sorted ahead of time, he would be more secure about attending. Plus they would need time to tailor his outfit and to adjust for his muscle regrowth. Due to the prior deterioration from lack of use in space. Now he was using them and exercising, he had no doubt that he would regain the muscle mass lost by the time of the event. So ensuring his suit is tailored to account for that would be vital in the stages of preparation.

But he was getting ahead of himself. He hadn't even made it there yet.

But when he did, he immediately made a b-line towards the higher quality suits. Spending enough time around Taiju and Yuzuriha did mean he had an eye for what fabrics to expect, what things to avoid and look for when it came to an outfits quality. But what stumped him was finding something that would work for him.

Eh, no harm in good old trail and error. Maybe suits wouldn't be too hard to choose. BUT WHY THE HELL ARE THESE ALL IMPRACTICAL TO A FAULT!?!?!

Senku had taken the time to choose different qualities 5 outfits and tried them on in a convenient changing room to the left of him. He tried to see what he liked best about them each but not only was he unable to formulate a biased opinion, he could barely move and breath in the fitting fabric.

Right. Just because it was his size now, didn't mean it would be for the future. He would need to choose clothes with a lot more loose fabric to make the tailor have an easier job later. But in order to get an idea of how it should look he is trying on his current size. But realising how stiff things were only proved to be demotivating. Knowing he couldn't plausibly survive in his choices, he put them away.

He knew he needed a second opinion. But there wasn't really an abundance of employees around at the moment. Nor was anyone free to help him in specifics. He could just wait but that would be awkward.

Trying to think of what to do, he noticed a new variable. Not to far away was a man currently sorting through suits very matter-of-factly. The way he carried himself and moved suggested that he had experience and his confidently happy expression was telling that he did know what he was doing.

It was honestly enviable in that moment, how Senku was lost on what to so as the man chose something that honestly seemed to compliment his asymmetrical appearance. Hm. Speaking of, there was something familiar about that face. About that hair.

Oh! This just got interesting, get excited. This guy is definitely famous. If Senku recognised him despite never seeing him before? Of course he was. Asagiri Gen, a magician who wrote some trashy books on phsycology. Ateast that would have been his first thought if the guy wasn't gaining so much popularity over the years. One of the most hard working, busy, charitable and undeniably tenacious celebrities currently out there. And his stuff seemed to have a lot of fluidity. He knew his stuff. Of course he would and Senku just had proof that he is good at his craft.

The guy was shopping here of all places. The staff seemed to know him too. He must have recognised behavioural patterns and chosen this place to buy some outfits as he would be less likely to be recognised. And Senku only just found this place. So much for being smart, it seemed like other professionals had the upper hand when it came to maintaining privacy. Even with the extra challenge of their faces being planted all over.

Though speaking off, Senku was a bit peeved looking at Asagiri Gen. The Asymmetry of his hair looked good. Why didn't he take advantage of it and go all out? It clearly suited him. Heck, if Senku didn't know their culture better he would advocate for the guy to atleast get a face tattoo. Something simple- like a line down his left cheek- to balance out the asymmetric shape of his hair using his face. But the backlash the guy would get would be a waste. Tattoos were an unnecessary but equally necessary stigma.

Hmm. Odd. Why was Senku even stuck on the guy's appearance at all? That was distracting- wait no. Wording- huh, if he didn't know any better he would have criticised himself for being hung up over some magician's looks. But it was annoying too see the wasted potential.

Oh. Now Senku had a plan. Fashion advice for fashion advice. What if he went over and asked for some help? Offer his own advice? He knew if Gen wanted to get truly noticed in a sea of celebrities a chanelge would do. He didn't know if he was attending the party though. So Senku checked social media. Something he rarely checked. He used his Dad's Twitter account because why would he use his own when he had no reason half the time?

And hah! Right there. Asagiri Gen is going to the party. This would be good. So, just like that, Senku found himself approaching this Magician, knowing that what he said next would be vital to get this guy's obviously professhional assistance. This was a golden opportunity and he knew he wasn't going to let this useful guy slip out of his hands.

Not right now atleast, when he was the most useful and convenient.

Asagiri Gen sighed. His favourite brand was most likely going to be sold out by the time of the party. So he came to one of his many back up stores in hopes of finding something decent for this celebrity get-together.

Oring-bay as it was to choose an outfit, especially by himself, he did like the peace and quiet he so rarely got to have in public. He turned to look at a mirror in front of him, slightly playing with the strands of his hair as he thought. Huh-?

Is someone approaching him from behind? There was someone steadily but definitely excitedly heading directly towards him. Probably a fan- who else wou-

Hehehehehehehe- I bet none of ya thought that they would meet before the party! Hope this was a fun surprise- ♡

Chapter 5: His Number and how I acquired it

Summary:

Gen has had a late morning. He couldn't wake up at all and looked horrible. That's what working all day does to a guy. But Nikki, bless her ability, has managed to clear up his schedule for the day!

She would be able to handle all the heavy lifting, literally, figuratively and even metaphysically! So Gen's morning was rough but okay but his day with Senku? He has never enjoyed an afternoon quite like this!

Basically- this is a long chapter- I'm counting it as 2 in 1- cause this is like twice the length of my other ones.

Chapter Text

Asagiri Gen, a man known for many qualities, such as his grace upon any stage, was currently drooling onto his couch. He was always the unreliable narrator, he didn't even make it to his room that night. Too exhausted to realise a difference between it and his comfortable Queen sized bed.

His legs were sprawled and his clothes from the prior night clung to his frame. The appendages that hung from his shoulders were just as chaotically placed. It was as if he had found the most uncomfortable position, found an even worse spot and then used the decorative pillows as a blanket. Cold, despite his several layers.

Sweaty, despite the living room window providing a constant flow of fresh, cool air.

Honestly when he woke up, groggy and barely lucid. He felt terrible. It was a chore to get up to go to his bathroom. It was worse to get ready for the day. Even more so when he was under the impression that he was late for work.

He was about to rush out the door with unkempt hair with the hopes his make-up and hair team could fix him up when Nikki called. It was sudden, it was unusual and it was welcome. Maybe Gen could get her to slow down his production team so that everyone wouldn't be waiting on him for so long that it impeeded progress. Maybe be could convince her to not murder him for bringing behind the schedule two days in a row.

But when she spoke to him on the phone? It was as if an angel with an angelic voice had called with a divine message. He didn't have to work. He had the day off. He had no idea how Nikki managed to arrange this nor how much work he would have to do extra to make up for this time loss. It didn't matter, he could relax for once when he was so exhausted.

So the first thing he did when the call ended was to head to the bathroom once more. He had time for a shower.

It was to both sooth his tired soul and to properly get clean after the uncomfortable and subjectively gross sleep he had. And straight after that? Right into pj's and in his bed to rest for once. It was nice to laze about. Nice to not feel rushed in his own home. He loves his job, the variety and the constantly evolving potential of it was very fulfilling for a man such as himself. It was just really exhausting after all this time.

It was nice to just, unwind. The morning he had was uncomfortable, but so was life at times. Being able to just relax and handle what made it bad- to get into blankets without the humidity from the air causing issues. Feeling clean and relaxed? It was a great feeling.

It still is. But Gen was never one to just sit around all day. You can call him lazy, you would be right in that observation, but he knew he was the ever so social insect he portrayed. Sitting around without human interaction wasn't something he could handle all too much without being impatient.

So, he decides it would be best to go out. He needed a purpose, he couldn't just go drinking or wander about a park without compromising his safety or public relations. He knew better. A good reason to leave the house, one that would let him be around a few people without causing a mob of fans and paparazzi to chase him down. It was never much of an issue before, yet with every new production he stars in, every new book and every new publicity stunt or genuine act of charity caused his fanbase to skyrocket in population.

So a reason. Somewhere he would be able to have breathing room and maybe do something productive?

______________________________

This leads us to now. Gen having decided to be productive and choose his own outfit for the party. He loved talking to designers personally, but he knew that he was most likely not a priority when there were more famous, popular idols of human's affection they would rather assist. He knew some would be too busy for him or would rather have someone with more money buy their products. It wasn't that he was lacking but it was that they all had so much more.

It was fine though. He could speak comfortably with the staff who had supplied to him before. The shop was thankfully almost empty as well so there wasn't anyone who has bothered him. Not noticing, not knowing or not expecting him here.

And anyways, he thought with a sigh. His favourite brand was most likely going to be sold out by the time of the party. So he didnt have much of a choice in coming here. One of his many back up stores, all in the hopes of finding something decent for this celebrity get-together.

Wait. IS THAT SENKUUUUU-??!?!?!?! HE IS COMING THIS WAY!?!?! AHHH HE WAS SO NOT READY!!!!

But that didn't matter-!!! Not when he was now face to face with the Astronaut who had evaded all his attempts of communication prior. It made sense he couldn't be contacted in space but Gen had been trying for way before that aswell. So this was completely out of his depth. He was not prepared emotionally, mentally, metaphysically or physically. Not even metaphorically, Gen honestly had no reason to when he didn't expect their first meeting to be face to face.

"So, you're Asagiri Gen right? Don't worry, I'm not a super fan stalking you- I just had some things to say Mr Magician? Or is mentalist the prefered title?"

Gen was panicking, but he, ever the professional, decided to keep a wary but patient expression. He knew that it would not be wise to scare this man off. He knew that revealing how much he had known about him would be odd, especially as his publicity was ever so minute. So he had to act like Senku was a stranger, simple as day. At least for now.

"I'm surprised you know the prefered title. That was something I mentioned in my latest book and I would assume only my precious fans would have bought the copy at this time. Maybe I should be orried-way? Isn't it the only natural response in this situation?" Internally Gen was screaming. He hated that he was probably botching a perfect first impression, but not being wary would be off putting in this situation- he had to. He hates it though. He needs to find out why this guy has finally decided to approach him. Needed to make an impact so that he could worm his way into his life in some small aspect. Carving a tunnel until he has carved out a place just for himself in his mind and heart.

"Of course, the only valid response to having a stranger such as myself seemingly contradict themselves when trying to initiate a conversation. But I will say, I only have read your books because of the accuracy of the information on psychology, I am a scientist afterall, knowledge is a gem that needs to be constantly cultivated. Of course that doesn't mean I don't respect the work you do, I just don't watch your shows with magic tricks. That's not really my thing"

"Oh understandable-yay dear consumer of my literature and you're a scientist? How admirable-yay." Despite the panic Gen knew he had to guide this conversation if he was going to get anywhere. To have an opportunity to be able to organically recognise him so that Senku and him can bond over something as trivial as being able to recognise each other. It was not a great starting plan, but it should lay foundations for a proper introduction.

"Nah, it's not my most admirable quality. So I'm told. And yes I am a scientist among other things. But I've gotten off track. Excuse my bluntness but I can help you fix something in your appearance to look better."

Huh? DID- DID SENKU JUST INSINUATE HE DIDN'T LIKE OMETHING-SAY ABOUT HIS APPERANCE??? How embarassing-!!! Gen was absolutely taken off guard, absolutely irritated and sad. Maybe he had eye bags? Was a bit too pale from working too much? He hated it. Hated this first impression but kept a decently controlled face, hiding pain with both surprise and visible walls of discomfort. He needed to act natural or- or-!!! Agh. He needed to focus!!!

"That was terribly rude, fan-chan. No one has said such a thing about my appearance before in such a negative way, it's hurtful. And we don't know each other enough to comment on our appearances. Isn't that right?"

"Negative one million points to you, Mentalist. I didn't mean it that way at all. It's not a negative quality, in fact it helps distinguish you. But it isn't utilised enough and I just had to say something otherwise I would drive myself crazy not sharing the information that would definitely be of help to you."

Wait- so Senku didn't find something about him unattractive? Just not portrayed in the most flattering way? Huh. This was new too. "Well I doubt that's the only reason you have approached me like this. But I'm willing to umour-hay you. So tell me, what is so under-utilised in my appearance that makes me not as flattering as I could be?" He tilted his head with a curious incline. His eyes steady on the red rubies of the other man's eyes. Seeing how the tense body language of this man relaxed. It seemed Gen had finally lead the conversation to where Senku would tell him what he wanted.

His curiosity would be satisfied.

"I guess you just earned those points back. No wonder your a renowned mentalist, you hit the the nail right on the head. I won't tell you unless you help me out with something. You see, I've been invited to a certain rich guy's party. You should know him, you are going too, according to social media. I need a proper outfit for the occasion, but I am helpless at finding something appropriate that is comfortable and matches the expectation of us guests." Senku had stated this so matter of factly. Not really realising how much of a big ask this was. To get a celebrity to personally help you choose your outfit. Though knowing what he did know, that probably wasn't the truth. There was no way he didn't consider the plausibility, he must have deduced this as the most logical solution.

Gen had no idea why it is the case but again, there was no way he would let such an opportunity slip from his open hands.

"Isn't that event for VIPs and professionals? I don't believe a scientist that isn't as widely known, such as yourself, would be the most asked for professional guest. Though now that I think about it. Hmm... aren't you a bit familiar?"

It was Senku's time to be taken a back. He had never thought of the plausibility that Asagiri Gen would recognise him from somewhere.

"Oh-! Wait- aren't you- I could have sworn... but your a scientist? Sorry. Correct me if I'm wrong but have I seen you on TV somewhere? Something covering.. NASA?" The way Senku nodded, eyes wide and even slightly in awe that he would be recognised by someone such as himself made Gen giddy in a way he couldn't express. He had never seen Senku with such an expression before, it was nice to see more of this man than what was at face value. "Did you help out with the astronauts or something?"

"Ah, no actually. So close too, could have had a perfect score. I was actually one of the astronauts" Gen had to suppress a smirk. Hook, line and sinker. It was a natural reaction, humans afterall, couldn't help correcting slightly incorrect details.

"An Astronaut-?? That's so Ool-cay-!!! Ah-! Wait- I remember- that- that there was one that reminded me of a vegetable! Name being- Sen- senchu? No Senku! Are you-?"

"I'm impressed you could even recall my name. Yes. I am Dr Isigami Senku, scientist and astronaut."

"Ah!" He claps his hands together, grinning with awe that he didn't need to fake. He could hide his fan-boying over the man himself by acting like a space fanatic. "I can't elieve-bay it! A genuine A-grade astronaut! Senku-Chan! What's it like? Is no gravity fun? Do stars truly not twinkle out in space? Due to no refraction?"

"It's satisfying as hell" Senku looked relaxed and happy to talk about this. He seemed to buy that Gen was truly impressed over this. Of course Gen was infact impressed, but not just specifically by his occupation. "And Zero gravity is fun, you get to float around without the effects of gravity and it's like you are a little kid fulfilling superhero dreams. Though it's annoying as hell to de with the consequences."

"Oh? Because of getting used to gravity again right? I heard people have to do physiotherapy for quite the while after space."

"Mhm, it's a pain in the ass. But it is so worth it. And look at you with all this knowledge. I would have never guessed that a performer such as yourself would be so interested in this topic. And to answer your last question, yes they don't twinkle. They're still impressive to observe though. No atmosphere or light pollution or weather to hinder the vast expanse of the sky."

"That sounds so majestic to observe. I'm really glad that the experience was worth it for you. You must be struggling. Should we find a place to sit in here and talk? I don't want to keep you on your feet if it would be difficult."

"Your concern is flattering, really, but I have no interest in sitting down. I'm quite fine as it is. But we have been side-tracked again mentalist. Are you going to help me or not?"

Gen let himself giggle, hiding his smiling face poorly in his hand. He didn't need to hide genuine amusement. He hoped if he played his cards right, he wouldn't have to hide his genuine reactions at all.

"You sold me at astronaut. That and I'm really really really curious to know what's wrong with my appearance?"

"Again, not an unflattering feature, just underutilised. Asagiri Gen, you must have deduced that you suit the asymmetrical look. The clothes over here have some sort of asymmetry afterall and you were definitely checking them out. But why aren't you taking advantage of that further?

It's ticked me off how unaware you seem to it. Your hair."

"My... hair? It's undeniably my signature feature- it is asymmetrical too so why would there be any issue with my ook-lay if you know it suits me?"

"You only have scratched the surface of it. That's why. Take advantage of what you look good in. I won't repeat myself so listen up well. Dye half of your hair, to the inverse colour of black, so to white, it would be very bold, very obvious and would look better than what you have now."

"Dye my hair? Eally-ray? But going from black to white is damaging. What if I loose my hair?" He clutched the longer strands, he liked his hairstyle and couldn't imagine it being ruined, due to an impulsive want to follow through with a hasty decision.

"If you need I can always observe the process. Make sure they use the most effective but least damaging method. And anyways, I know the ingredients needed in proper hair products. I can make you a list to look out for when shopping for products to maintain your healthy head of hair. That way you don't have to worry so much about damage."

Gen took a moment to think. He had never even thought Senku would try to help him in such a way. It was so odd, so unfairly odd that Senku had thought of how to make him look better. That he thought he looked fine but could elevate his appearance. It means that Senku did find him decently passible at the very least which, wow. To have such an insight on how the person you admire sees you visually? It's such a rare thing, normally having to earn some level of trust to hear their opinion, but Senku, ever so straightforward and blunt had told him. It was nice.

And he knew that he wanted to look good in Senku's eyes. He wanted him to find him attractive as much as it was hard to admit. He had half the mind to realise that he was most probably developing a crush, but damn did he want to look good for Senku. And he couldn't deny that the more he pictures it, Senku was right. He would look much better with it dyed in such a fashion.

Wow did he notice that this conversation had gotten out of his control. He couldn't change how it has developed, but he will grab the reigns once more and reel it back into his focus.

"Would you really do that for me? That's so eassuring-ray Senku Chan~! But I think before I agree let me help you out first? And you can tell me about why you were invited too as I do! I don't think your professions or lack of celebrity status really qualify you for the party so I am urious-cay!" He started ushering Senku to a different section of the store. He wanted to ensure Senku could quickly become used to talking with him, directing the conversation to a point Senku could lead, let him be in control of it so he would be comfortable.

He made sure that to the area he had gently directed Senku to allowed for him to comfortably stand side-by-side with him. To ensure Senku didn't feel interrogated by his questions, to feel more friendly with Gen. He was pulling out all the stops, to only be able to become friends with Senku. And oh yeah. Maybe also get him on his show.

Wow. He had completely forgot about that, didn't he?

Senku couldn't believe his luck. He didn't end up scaring away the mentalist. He agreed to help and was quite friendly, albeit wary of him at first. Made every lick of sense that he was yet he seemed comfortable next to him now. Searching through the outfits to find something that would work well for Senku.

He followed his requests and listened well to what he disliked about what he tried on so far. He didn't look judging or look at him in any plausible negative way. It was reassuring, patient and excited.

Asagiri Gen must be a fan of astronauts, so he must be inclined to like Senku. It worked in his favour, thankfully. He was 38.6972% sure that he was going to fail. That seems like a decent margin of self confidence but 52.7% was focused on the probability that Senku would chicken out instead.

Who knew social interactions with celebrities could make one so nervous? Everyone but him apparently. Never had any reason to realise it could before. People's emotional reactions weren't his thing when it came to research.

But, anyways, things worked out and that is good enough results for him.

Now it was time to get excited. Gen had picked something out and from a glance he was able to tell that he would prefer it to any of the other options he had tried before.

He really knew his stuff, such a useful guy. He wouldn't mind talking to him more, oh the ways he could be helpful for funding his main job. The funding for his team's work was insufficient. If only Gen could come by and convince them to skyrocket the amount. Hahaha. In another life he could probably rely on his skill sets in such ways. But that's just unrealistic.

What was realistic was atleast trying to keep him around, Senku needed more single friends anyways. Everyone around him, his dad, his friends, even his deranged mentor was married or to be at some point. It was ridiculous.

If he had to 3rd wheel one more time he was going to loose it. Taiju and Yuzuriha were bearable but Stanley and Xeno? No. No way.

So he spoke up "Hey mentalist, what do you think about exchanging numbers? I feel like we should hang out more. This is nice." Huh, did he just notice Gen's ears turning red?

He probably was just caught of guard.

"Wow, such an amazing request! And I will say it is somewhat funny that you enjoy me choosing your clothes for you. But is it really just friendship that makes you offer your number to me so easily, Dear Dr Astronaut? Some people would kill for my number and you are asking for it so simply. It's quite admirable of you, so brave."

"Well for one, yes it is actually the main reason. But it is also so I can text you a list for the hair products stuff. Also so I can see the result of your hair over phone."

"Oh? But I thought you offered to come with me?"

Ah, right he did "so? I doubt you really want me to be there and you didn't exactly say you wanted me there too. Just said it was reassuring as hell."

"Don't assume for me please! Though It's really surprising you consider my response a no. But I actually would appreciate such a highly knowledgeable man, such as yourself, to accompany me for such an endeavour. My hair is just that precious to me"

"Then when I have your phone number we can arrange a day to do it-"

"Oh actually- I was hoping we could go today. I have no clue if I will get a day off again before the party and we are already here together. We can just choose some outfits then leave together. It would also be much more efficient-yay. What do you say? Of course if you have something else to do then we can always figure something else out"

"Well I can't argue with your logic there. Why not?"

"Aha! I'm glad you see it my way Senku~Chan!"

Gen was finally having his hair dried by the worker at the salon. Senku was sitting down, securing both of their chosen suits for the party beside him. He was excited to see Senku wearing it for the event. It didn't take long to choose the outfits, infact they had done so in such a quick time that Senku had to finish explaining his situation of representing his step-mother in the event. It was due to the fact that Senku was clear in qualities he liked, he just wasn't aware what outfits would provide them. So It was no wonder that he would require help, a process of elimination could have taken hours on the long end. But he was happy to have helped him choose, happy to have been the only one so far to see him in it. He was also happy to see the hair dye session had gone by flawlessly.

Half and half were the locks upon his head. He couldn't deny that he looked more handsome like this, more appealing to the eyes. The white hair had completed his look perfectly.

He also saw from the knowing, smug but impressed look on the green and white haired expert that he thought it turned out well too. It was Senku's idea after all. He would need to plug both Senku and the shop for this outcome. His fans would demand it if he didn't immediately. He wouldn't blame them, anyone would want to know how he ended up looking the best he had ever looked in his life so suddenly.

But thar was something he needed permission for. He could email the shop later, and he could text Senku about it too. He was still giddy about that. Someone he admires so much instigating a number exchange with? Absolutely dreamy. Just as dreamy as he looked right now.

"So Senku, are you going to tell me you told me so? Or are you going to continue to stare at how good I look?"

"Hah. Funny mentalist. I'm not doing either. I'm just observing and appreciating how even the hair dye is organised non-symmetrically on your hair."

"Wow, so blunt and disappointing Senku Chan~~. I would have appreciated some nice comments on my appearance. Even though I can't really deny the truth of your statement. My hair has never looked this good, you miss, have outdone yourself" he had turned and smiled thankfully towards the one who did this to his hair. The worker was appreciative of the praise. Saying it is expected at their shop and to come back again whenever he needed to touch up his roots.

"Good, now let's pay and get going, I bet you're as hungry as I am and there is a restaurant right round the corner."

Gen had to consider this for a while. He was initially worried about people recognising him and taking photos of them. Causing rumours that would only blow up. But, he felt he could take the chance today. He looked different. No one would expect it was actually him and if they did and tried to approach- couldn't he just change his voice and pretend to be a doppelganger? They would realise after a long while, that yes, it was him. But by then they all would have lost the chance to take a candid photo for evidence.

So he complied with Senku's request, wanting to spend as much time with him as plausible. So he paid, giving a generous tip to the surprise of the worker. Tipping culture here was unlike in America, but he felt compelled to make sure this shop would continue to like him as a customer. He was definitely going to come back.

And then they were off. The restaurant itself wasnt much, a much more homely feeling than he has grown used to with his fame, but it was nice. They were escorted to a table relatively quickly, one that was out if the way and less crowded.

And then given menus to choose from. Gen himself was feeling up to some Tempura, Miso soup and a portion of rice whilst Senku stuck to ramen, with a vegetable spread for them to share. He would have had some ramen too if it weren't for the fact that the store had no cola to pair with it. Instead they both had green tea. It was quite nice and served to them quickly.

And as they ate Gen made sure to enquire on something that was bothering him. How was Senku, the Lillian's step-son and managed to stay out if the spotlight?

"Well that's actually quite simple really. The actual wedding was private and heavily guarded. There were no paparazzi allowed. No one wanted a reporter to ruin the romance stuff with 20 questions and worse. And me and my dad were smart about it. I attended as on of his groomsmen. So any pictures I was in was just written of as us being close friends. That and when they finally left the area to a designated spot where reporters could take headline photos and such of the event. Someone asked if my dad had any kids prior."

"Oh so I'm guessing he denied your existence to keep your privacy?"

"Nah, minus 10 points to you. What actually happened was he replied that he had no biological kids."

Gen paused "wha-? Oh-! Ohhh. Yeah that was smart." He had realised what Senku had ment by this statement. It was clever word play.

"I didn't ask him to do as such but as I was about to go to space for a while we thought it was a safety concern to have so many reporters flocking the launching site to talk to me. Though I learned to regret it. The amount of funding I could get for my research could triple if I took advantage of fame early on. It was near sighted of me."

"Haha-! Well, you have the chance now atleast. I'm sure you could easily get some promotional deals for something science related if you reached out. I'm sure that there has even been some companies that have emailed you about that already."

"Hah, even if that is the case, I wouldn't know it. I don't use my work email, Xeno, you wouldn't know him- my lunatic, controll-freak mentor has access to it and I rather him not know my every business interaction."

"Oh." It was a small 'oh' from Gen. He had finally realised why it was so hard to contact this man infront of him. Some 'Xeno' had gotten in the way of it. But Gen immediately had an idea.

"Well as you know, I have my own show. If you want I can text you about some details and we can have a special segment where you come in and expose the science for some of my complex tricks- or even upstage them using science only! That would be a good stepping stone. And if you make a separate email for such things, I could help promote you to other companies using the episode we make together as incentive and give them said new email. That way the email is only for such purposes and you can still use the other for astronaut and science work purposes! Though it is only just a silly little idea. Sorry if i just ranted on there." Gen took a slow sip of his tea, not hiding his apprehension of a reply. Senku delivered one.

"Don't be sorry for something that actually has merit. It's a great idea. Especially for after the party held by that Ryuusui Company. If I play it right, maybe I could generate some buzz, even if it isn't a lot, they might recognise me for sticking around Yuzuriha and Taiju for basically the entire thing-"

"Ait-way just one second Senku-chan. Arent they like, super popular celebrities? Yuzuriha is literally a fashion Icon and has grown her brand almost as big as Gucci in such a short time. And her fiance is no question her biggest supporter- taking up a role as the main heavy worker in the background, supporting her in everyday. The literal power couple of the century. You're telling me you know them enough to hang with them during auch an important event-?!" Gen pointed his chopsticks towards Senku in questioning. He was in shock. He may have gathered some idea that they all knew each other from watching Senku's YouTube vids, like the dedicated fan he was. But this suggested more than what he had known before.

"Well obviously."

"OBVIOULY-YAY-?! No it is not! Expand on that- please-?!"

"Well I am their childhood friend, I even witnessed Taiju confessing. We would all be inseparable at times. They would listen to my lectures about rockets, test my experiments and rockets with me, we would go to each other's houses, me and Taiju were Yuzuroha's victims in pinning up her outfits before she could afford a proper mannequin. Hell it was Taiju who helped me with figuring out how to use a gym. The muscle head is quite reliable."

Gen clapped his hands together. Only once, in a way to gather back focus on him. Call it selfish, but he was less interested in hearing about what senku thought of his friends and more interested in learning about Senku himself.

"Oh wow Senku! So you have a lot of experience with celebrities! It's also so cool that you three are such friends, but now I have a hypothesis. Would you care to listen and see if my corelation has a causation? If that's the right term for it."

"Sure go ahead. It couldn't hurt to entertain it, but just note that causation usually has to be proven by more than one situation, corelation is easy to identify but not the other way around."

"Thank you for the tip Dr Senku-chan! And I see a correlation between Yuzuriha's fame and ability to make designer outfits with your close friendship. You don't want to take advantage of it right? It's why you went to the shop by yourself today. Isn't it?"

"You need to word it better to be a proper correlation, but I will not deny that is the case. Her being a famous clothing brand owner and my friend, alongside the fact I went to buy clothes myself does have the correlation of this being the result of the other because I didn't want to take advantage of her capability when she was already so swamped at work right now. So yes, I guess I can admit there is some causation. Even though statistically you would need to ask for more than just my own opinion."

"It's nice I got it right!" He said with a smile, they both were finishing up their plates by now. It was nice just chatting and eating, getting to know about Senku.

"You did, it is good your such a creative and curious mind, probably helped you with ideas for your show. Though it seems unfair I have yet to take an interest too, so for the sake of decency, do you have any childhood friends of note you want to talk about?"

"Oh-? Not really. I've been in showbiz most of my life and I am married to my work almost. So I haven't had time to really relax and form friendships. Today is just a special case because I got the day off."

"That's more relatable than you think. If Yuzuriha and Taiju weren't aware of how I am, they would have stopped being my friends years ago because I get so invested in my work it's unhealthy and a bit overwhelming."

"Well, now you have another friend, a new one in the same boat as you."

"Exactly the type of thing I like to hear. This way we both don't need to worry about understanding each other's busy schedules. Although, right now I do contradict myself a bit. I'm off work to recover from going to space. And since I haven't taken any vacation days in years, I'm using them all up now so that it doesn't become an issue for me later."

"Oh so atleast for now if I get some free time you will most likely be available?" He short nod from Senku felt awesome. He didn't even seem annoyed by the idea- he seemed content, like he wouldn't mind future hangouts. It was an amazing feeling. "Well then, I will be sure to contact you about it-! Speaking of give me your phone so I can input my number- we have yet to do that."

He watched Senku wordlessly hand him his phone after unlocking it. When he opened the contacts he was happy to see no lover like name on it. He was Single which means more time to hang out with himself! He imput his number and named himself Mentalist, figuring it would be a much more comforting title than his full name. And Swnku was already calling him this so it was a safe bet.

He then inputted Senku's number into his and handed back the phone. He saved the name as Senku-chan, absolutely giddy to be in possession of a personal means of contact. Absolutely proud of himself for bagging Senku as a friend.

"Well it's getting late now, we should probably pay and be off. I rather not risk the outfits getting wrinkles from staying in the seat beside you for any longer-"

"Ah right you are again Senku chan! Your so smart and responsible, it's refreshing. And I will pay this time, my treat for you helping with my hair."

"No you should let me pay, you helped me with the outfit which in itself was already payment for the hairstyle. And I suggested food so it should be me who pays."

"Well from what I understand I am the older one here, it would be disrespectful if I made you pay, especially as I have the bigger salary in general sooooo~"

"That's all the reason for me to respect my elder and pay myself."

"Well, It's too late anyways as I will be paying regardless now." Senku was too busy focusing on debating the customary argument on who pays, looking at Gen's face to see if he could find a flaw in his argument, to notice he had reached out his arm and had handed his card to the waiter who had just gone to pay their bill.

Gen was proud of himself and Senku was impressed as he didn't even notice Gen move. His slight of hand tricks were less obvious than he would thought in person.

And once Gen had received his card back, they both thanked the waiter for serving them and left. Senku and Gen leaving with their outfits and then stepping outside to say goodbye.

"Senku I want to thank you for this today. I haven't had this nice of a hangout that wasn't for some company celebration or corporate suck up in years."

"It's no problem really, I just held up my end of the agreement, but I am glad things have worked out ad they have. See you when I see you, I hope to text you soon enough."

"Yes, as soon as I have the chance I will-! Thank you again and later Senku-Chan! It's been fun." With that Gen had turned to leave, taking out his phone to call for a chauffeur. Senku followed his example, calling for a taxi.

Once he was inside he noticed a text from his dad. He and Lillian had done some baking together, showing off the fruit of their efforts. He decided to call, wanting to brag about sorting out his outfit so efficiently and to reveal to them his new friend.

Of course he had to brag, because Senku hasn't made a friend organically outside of work in years now. It was an achievement.

He could have sworn Byakuya had dropped the phone from surprise because after a thud it was Lillian answering as if she had picked it up.

Notes:

Basically- a not-yet date. I'm planning to leave it all one sided for a while- so them going out on date like events but not actually will happen more often. Which they will later consider dates when they finally get together-!

This is something inspired by my sibling and their fiance- who went on several. A very sappy couple those 2 are- but love em anyways. So I am taking the formula that was successful for them and inputting it on Senku and Gen- because it works and will let there be romance before any romance. This also helps to satisfy shipping during the time they will just be friends-

Chapter 6: Texting and more

Summary:

Gen basically fan-boying over Senku- you get to learn why he is- and how he learned of Senku despite Senku not having much of a media presence.

Also- Gen has time off?

Chapter Text

Gen arrived back home quite swiftly. He didn't live all that far away. Plus his ride was nearby and dropped him off as efficiently as ever.

And when he closed his door, he let his calm facade drop and ran. He ran upstairs to his room- safely depositing the outfit before fully leaping onto his bed. He was beat red and rolling back and forth. He felt so energetic.

He grabbed a pillow from somewhere above his head and started to squeal into it. Still tossing and turning- acting like a teenager in love as he completely lost his sense of dignity.

He was fan-boying.

He had just hanged out with Senku- SENKU-!!!!!! He had admired this man so secretly for so long and somehow managed to connect to him so well that they became immediate friends. He was over the moon! Pun not intended but was ironic in its own right.

Gen was just so damn happy.

He was very aware he might be a bit odd for his behaviour. Willingly dye-ing his hair on Senku's whim and pulling out a handful of manipulation tricks to ensure he was on Senku's good side without showing off how ready he was to ask Senku to sign his face.

Of course the manipulation was to be expected, Gen was socially able but had not maintained any lasting relationships. He wanted to actually guarantee something starting because the loneliness and grief he would feel if Senku rejected his aim of friendship? It would be overwhelming. It was hard to trust in himself alone so of course in fits of nerves and prayers to not be disliked he did his best to kiss ass. It wasn't like it was something he disliked, he genuinely did like astronauts, he loved being able to help out others. He appreciated suggestions for his appearance because he liked looking good to others, he couldn't deny the dopamine at being genuinely complimented. No one really could.

It is just he tried to portray himself in a great light. And he was planning on lessening the mental tricks he used by the next time. He genuinely wanted to be able to trust himself to be friends with Senku without having to rely on it after all. This man had quickly grown to be his idol afterall.

And now... NOW GEN HAD HIS NUMBER-!!!!!

Shit. The adrenaline from getting to know Senku on a personal level had completely overshadowed his achievement. He took out his phone from his pocket, holding it up gently, like a precious relic. He had managed to get Senku's number. Today was honestly the best in his life.

Was this how his fans felt? When getting valuable merchandise from him? From getting to talk to him even briefly? To think he makes people this happy. It was an unfathomable concept before, but he truly felt he could relate to them now.

Even if he hasn't been as dedicated or as long as a fan as some of his fans are for his, it made him feel closer to them.

It was a realisation.

He has always been famous. Never once has he remembered a time without prestige or money. A long time away from a camera. He may understand society, their mental health, their wants and needs a lot more than the average rich person... but he never realised how detached he was from their love of him.

This put it in perspective. He was feeling like this towards Senku and several more probably felt the same for him when he first started. He would need to organise a meet and greet soon. He felt bad for not understanding the hearts of the masses sooner.

But he could now. He remembered when he first stumbled across Senku's YouTube channel almost 2 years ago. The scientist was demonstrating the science of producing carbonated water. He would have never watched it without the video's thumbnail showing off his home made cola.

It was cool how the scientist used a waterfall to make carbonated water, surprising when he listed the simple ingredients that would go into the beverage. He did make note that the drink being the result was probably to appeal to kids, who would have a much easier time recalling the process of making it if they associated carbonated water with cola. Heck it was carefully crafted to be both educational and engaging for them. But Gen was intrigued. This man was able to create his favorite beverage like it was a simple trick. How knowledgeable was he to do such a thing?

And Gen was also enamoured. He wanted to see more of Senku, someone so for eal-ray, someone who he wanted to question about how he knew this, someone he needed to beg to make this for him every day, someone needed to see more of. He immediately subscribed and started to indulge more in. Gen religiously watched an episode a day from there on.

All he could think was how absolutely admirable this Scientist continued to be. He took note of the subtle things, how he mentioned offhandedly that he works for NASA, how he learned to make a functioning rocket at a young age, how he was in a program training to go to space.

It was so ool-cay!!! So utterly ool-cay that by the time Gen had finished all the previously posted videos, that he did his best to research about him. He didn't find much at all though. But he did find some research papers by him. And Gen couldn't read half of the stuff said, Senku was truly a genius. He wanted to know more, to learn more. So the mentalist started to watch astronomy lesson videos in his free time. He learned so much that he increasingly found so interesting. In his life he has always done the same boring formula of being on stage or movies or something he had done over and over. So learning astronomy was a welcome change of pace.

And after a while, he found that he could read a lot of Senku's space based papers with ease. It was a huge accomplishment. And he managed to learn so much more.

He quickly grew to idolise the man. And when he learned that Senku was going to be an astronaut? Damn, he skipped work and spent the whole day cheering for Senku over TV, watching him through the press' eyes as one of Japan's youngest astronauts boarded the latest Rocket model.

Gen was absolutely nervous but as the rocket ascended and no complications arose? He cheered. Cheered for Senku- cheered for his science and cheered knowing he was safe.

From that point on? He was a fully devoted fan. Something he tried to hide because it would seem odd, considering Senku was only truly known by science and space communities. His YouTube presence consistent, but not popular. Afterall, his videos do still seem like educational lessons, so they only have a few hundred views at most. Senku wasn't famous, so Gen being a supporter would seem a bit odd, but he couldn't help it.

Senku's dedication, his intellect and his ability to make sweet, sweet cola from scratch, made him want to support this man from the shadows. And now he could in the limelight.

It was both unnerving and fantastic at once.

________________

Gen had finally texted Senku. He had mulled over the most normal and common interaction before needing to find his confidence to initiate a conversation.

And he managed just fine as well. A simple:

'Hey! It's the mentalist, for eal-ray and all. We should do this again soon, text me any ideas and we can schedule a time.'

Seemed friendly enough. Not desperate but expectant. He wanted to make sure Senku could tell he genuinely wanted to hang out again, even if it comes off as a bit pushy.

And he practically exploded when Senku replied immediately with a simple emoji, a thumbs up. From what he could tell from his knowledge of psychological responses, including texting habits, Senku wanted to as well but had no ideas of his own to pitch right now. It would be a conversation for another time. Hence the short and sweet response. Which was fine for Gen, he was already so emotionally overwhelmed at the moment.

So he knew not to make a big deal over it. But he also knew he needed to give Senku an idea when he would be free next.

And as such, he found himself calling Nikki.

It rang, the phone. He waited for a response but there was none.

That was odd.

He called again, then again, then again.

He decided to just send her a text and to wait instead. But of course- just as he was about to send it, she calls back.

Irritating but it's fine. She was calling now which is what matters.

"Hey Gen! Sorry for not answering you sooner- I'm kinda busy right now. Wrapping up eelverything here."

"Hey Nikki-Chan-! Sorry- but I called to ask... oh but before that~ what were you saying about wrapping up?"

"Oh did you forget? We finished early with production of episodes for your show. The Editors are going to start working on everything along side the special effects team. And today I have just made sure that all the extra workers start clearing up as we won't be back here for filming till winter."

"Eriously-say? We finished already? I thought I had another 2 to film! Wow, we worked quickly. Annnddd it answers what I was going to ask you! So thank you Nikki-chan! Make sure to text me when there's promotional stuff to manage- and any opportunities I can do but please make it the minimum? I don't want to do too much before the party and I will be working on a personal project soon."

"Yeah, yeah. I know the drill don't worry boss. Call you soon, I've been eyeing a relatity TV show and was going to see kf they want a guest star."

"That works- talk later byyyeee-"

Then Nikki hanged up. Ude-ray but he got it. She was busier than him now.

But he finally had his answer, he had a lot of free time now. Now that he wasn't going to be filming everyday.

So he added to his messages with Senku:

'Feel free to tell me a general time you would like to meet up as well, it seems my schedule has opened up just for you scientist'

It was well into his day when he saw the response from the mentalist. Senku placed his book on astronomical physics down and checked the reply.

Ha, nice.

He can brag more to his Dad that he has a normal hang out planned again for soon.

The tears he heard from him over the phone was extreme before, and a bit irritating, as if his own father couldn't believe the miracle that Senku was able to be social. But jokes on him, miracles were just the random plausibilities with the least likely outcome that was favourable. So he was not going to let him see this as a miracle, he was going to hang out with this mentalist so much that it becomes a normal occurance. Changing the probability.

That would make the old-coot not cry at minimum. Sappy bastard. Heh, Senku still loved him for it anyways, at least.

Notes:

You can probably tell- I was sick whilst writing this- so excuseeeeee the horrid grammar/spelling- I don't have the heart to change it- nor the will

Chapter 7: Tomorrow's plans

Summary:

Senku and Gen are gonna hang out again-! Oh my, Senku is going to have Gen over???

How is that going to go?

Chapter Text

It had been a week. A week since him and Asagiri Gen had been texting semi-regularly. It was a nice change of pace.

Before, Senku wouldn't be on his phone so often. He was used to long winded phone calls that he both dreaded and liked. Work, family and his childhood best friends. He genuinely did like every conversation in each subject but he always found himself so drained after 10 minutes or even up to 3 hours, 7 minutes and 3 seconds. So he didn't answer or make calls too often. Call him an asshole for not showing as much effort in his important relationships, but it's hard. So damn hard to be comfortable when he would much prefer talking in person, doing something whilst talking.

It made things much more rewarding and productive, time was money to some but for him time was opportunity. Opportunity to do meaningful things.

And he couldn't focus on doing anything productive when talking over the phone. Senku felt more easily distracted when trying to draw up schematics, writing up essays or even when formulating standard solutions with someone's voice down his ear. It was easier in person as someone's sudden proclamation wasn't so loud in his ear-canal, distracting him from his work.

But Gen was different. He texted. Usually their conversations were irregular throughout the day, short, sweet. They never texted for more than 27 minutes so far. It was less distracting and easier to do. To talk to someone with a similar passion for space. When it seemed like Gen got excited, he couldn't deny he didn't replicate the feeling.

He didn't feel dread whenever they conversed, it was a welcome change of pace. He appreciated how every conversation was engaging and fun but didn't drag on. Senku quickly understood he liked talking to Gen most. And it made sense to talk like this.

Both were normally busy people, so stealing a random 10 minutes to talk in a busy day would be so much easier for them both. Much easier than scheduling an hour call his mentor with his only availability being late into the day when he was already exhausted. Of course Senku wasn't working right now, so it wasn't currently an issue, but it would be if he was.

So there was no other plausibility in this. He prefered the way he and Gen talked.

And it let him focus on other things too. He could manage to cook much more easily if he only took his eyes off the stove for 15 seconds to reply. It was especially evident when engaging in a constant call that would make it hard to stay focus on such a task. It was the same for many things. Texting seemed to be much easier for Senku. Not as good as in person, but better than he was used to.

Heck when he wasn't doing anything and he was bored, telling Gen of this predicament, Gen would help by texting in morsecode. Or trying to text solely in pig Latin. He prefered the morsecode but it was still great. He had more mental stimulation when translating the messages.

It was honestly a surprise when Gen started messaging in dashes and full stops the first time. He was genuinely looking forward to plausible secret conversations between the two of then in the future, using such a method.

Senku couldn't deny this, and he didn't even want or need to. Gen was honestly the most engaging and fun person he has been able to talk to in a while.

Hw may not have as much of an emotional connection to others, but Gen was still great. He was already excited to meet up again.

But that isn't until tomorrow.

It turned out that during certain times of the year, when Gen finished filming his shows episodes, he was much more free, only having the occasional appearances and charity events and such. Well, normally, that would still be occupying his time as he would increase his appearances. And Gen would have more free time in a day... and from what Senku could gather, that still did mean Gen didn't get much days off.

However, due to the upcoming party and from what Gen has informed him, his own personal project he was brewing, he didn't need to work as much to stay relevant. So he had much more time off. And tomorrow was a true work free day. One of which where Senku could attend.

They actually tried to schedule to hang out 4 days ago, when Gen actually had time off that day as well, but Senku had to go to the hospital to check in with his physiotherapists. [Update his physio exercises, be cleared to use some new equipment or no longer require others. The works.] So even though neither had to work, he was the one to be unavailable that day. But tomorrow would be different.

And Senku was looking forward to it. They decided for simplicity and convenience that Gen would be coming over to his house. They were going to binge 'The Orville', a space themed comedy series where different places in a fictionally thought up universe was explored and more. It had the normal TV show climaxes and resolutions. An overall good show that Senku hadn't ever got to finish and Gen hadn't even seen.

So it was the perfect choice for them to indulge in. Atleast Senku assumed so, considering the both of them love space and good humour, and TV was nice to watch with friends.

Plus, he wants to see how the mentalist interprets some of the characters motifs, or how easily he can predict the plot before he can. Genuinely Senku was mainly just excited at seeing how Gen's brain, filled with knowledge on psychology, interacts with TV shows. If he likes to pic out characters and analyse them thoroughly. If he likes to figure out the plot and help build suspense whilst Senku was still in the dark. If he likes to predict things aloud and complain if he gets it wrong or right. How Gen honestly likes to watch movies.

If it's different from how Taiju and Yuzuriha watch movies. If Gen gets clingy like Yuzuriha when he is sad or scared, or if he jumps up in excitement or yells out like Taiju. Or other comparisons.

The entire thing was almost like a social experiment. Except Senku hadn't even realised the connection of this yet, chalking this up to simple curiosity for once. And also, unlike a social experiment he didn't think to see if Gen would like being analysed. A main factor in social experiments is to ensure the mental health of the willing participants. Who knew if Senku psychoanalysing Gen would make him uncomfortable or unaffected or what.

But again, Senku didn't think to see it in such a way. To him this wasn't an experiment no matter how it seemed to be like one. To him, he was hanging out with his latest friend at his place. Going to enjoy a positively reviewed series together and eat snacks and talk. To understand his friend's habits when watching, mainly out of curiosity as he doesn't have much friends to know the most normal responses from people.

So Senku was just genuinely curious, he barely had any references as to how other people behave when watching TV. And Gen would add to that knowledge. Being said friend who he enjoyed his time with.

And it wouldn't even be weird anyways. Senku understood all the habits of his friends. Of course he isn't accounting for that fact Yuzuriha and Taiju are very close to him so of course he knows their habits, and he works with his work friends enough to understand theirs. But actuay taking time to analyse someone's habits, even if they were just TV manners, could be a bit odd.

But then again, Senku could never openly state he was such a social genius. He wouldn't know that it would be odd behaviour in the first place.

And so he doesn't.

So he started to order some snacks online for tomorrow, occasionally texting Gen to see if he had any preferences. Content in how their day together may progress tomorrow.

And excited In what he will learn about Gen, his newest friend. Unaware of the socially awkward situation it is to openly analyse a close friend for their habits and mannerisms and such. As to do this, Senku would have to focus on Gen more than the show. Looking at Gen and listening to him more than paying attention.

Being stared at and analysed could be seen as odd and thankfully Senku was unaware of it. And unaware of how Gen would notice it all. And even more unaware of how much Gen will relish in the attention.

Gen was having his make-up touched up as he was preparing for a photoshoot. They had used an odd chalk in his hair to hide the white. Just like in previous shootings, to avoid the public noticing his new hair style yet.

It was something he and Nikki agreed should be saved until the party. It would be a much more memorable impact for him if he does.

But he didn't care about that.

He was too busy gushing over how considerate Senku was. He was literally texting Gen about what snacks he liked so Senku could supply them for him tomorrow.

He of course replied that Cola would be amazing. And he liked snacking on some pocky too. Screw the fact that it normally was associated with such a romantic game, Gen prefered to just eat it without comment and thankfully, Senku ever the gracious man, didn't even tease him about the snack. Adding it to the list and thanking Gen for the speedy reply.

Oh how Gen was excited to see him tomorrow. But for now he needed to focus on work. Which sucked.

Honestly it was sooooo boring sometimes. But he couldn't deny dressing up like this, in an almost erotic fashion, just to promote a perfume was both funny and well, silly. Thought the "almost erotic" was just heavily implied. As it was only some cleavage and less layers than Gen would normally wear, but still more risky for him personally atleast.

But again, Gen paid it no mind. Normally he would be texting a picture to Nikki to talk about how silly it was that he could sell a perfume better when dressed like this. But he had Senku on his mind right now.

And he rather continue prompting him about snacks over text, rather than focus on the fact he was about to have his photos taken for an hour, at least, in a few minutes.

Chapter Text

Gen had finished the photoshoot with nothing more than impatience. The first thing he did was see if Senku had dawdled on whilst he worked.

And he was disappointed when he notice that, no, in fact, Senku had no left more for him to reply to. But that was fine.

He sent a smiley-faced emoji and informed him he was done.

Simple, but Senku seemed to prefer simplicity he noticed. Maybe because of how matter of fact it is, maybe it because of how intelligent Senku is, not everything had to be a puzzle when you already solved so many. Or maybe it is just Senku found it more efficient? Who knows. What Gen did notice is Senku's habit to like more blunt answers.

That didn't mean Senku wasn't one to respond in great detail. It just means that Gen did not have to write so much for every response.

Hmm. He was eeefffinitely-day looking waaayyyy to much into this. But who cares. He didn't really.

It was a habit at this rate, to notice people's habits and actions. To notice their tells and their preferences. Their thoughts processes and even their likes and dislikes.

And as such, it was really just second nature. Instead, Gen decided to focus on his incredibly intelligent friend. After all, Senku was still responding.

______________________

It was the day of the hangout. Gen had woke up and started making sure the chalkfrom yesterday that hid the duality of his hair, wasn't still visible. He felt he would die inside if he arrived at Senku's place with splotchy hair.

And after 10 minutes of hair care and inspecting, he was relieved to finally digest the fact that yes, his hair was perfect.

Thus, Gen was free to move on with basic hygiene.

It was 9 in the morning and Gen was supposed to be there by 10. Considering it normally took him 20 minutes to get ready and Senku lived 15 minutes away, he had thought he would have some time to spare for breakfast...

But Gen didn't really prep an outfit and he already spent an additional 10 minutes on his hair alone. So, he found himself skipping breakfast, arriving at Senku's apartment on time but on an empty stomach.

He should have managed his time better in retrospect, but it isn't really his fault-! Nikki-Chan had spoiled him so much. Managing his schedule so well that he knew he didn't have to worry about it himself. So of course he was rusty. No... it's not fair to blame her. He shouldn't have been worried about his vanity so much.

Why was he even working so hard to look perfect? Good first impressions? No because Gen and Senku already hit things off, and he knows logically that Senku isn't really one to judge based on looks. And Gen isn't insecure either. So it was honestly evading him as to why.

He sighed, knowing its not the time to ponder every little thing. He lightly slapped both of his facial cheeks to bring a tad roseyness back to them, pale from being a bit unnecessarily stressed so far. And smiled. Knocking on the door and waiting for Senku to let him in. It was only logical to just, forget it for now. He was about to hang out one on one- WITH SENKU-!!!! He was ecstatic and little thoughts shouldn't distract him from it. Even with the nagging of his hunger doing its best to.

Gen had started to ponder on what Senku's apartment will even look like when Senku opened the front door.

He looked great, a comfy pair of jeans and a very oversized turtleneck jumper, it being a pinkish-beige paired with the lapis blue of the jeans worked well with his green and white hair. It was a bit of a surprise that he would wear a turtled neck anything in this weather, it was sunny and warm. It made him become curious on what his bare neck looked like underneath. But of course, Gen wasn't over analysing his looks or anything. He was just appreciating his friend's outfit. Simple as that, well... that's what he would tell himself if he questioned it. Gen hadn't really made the connection at how wild a thought that was.

"Hello Mentalist. It seems you got here alright. Come in, I made extra breakfast if you want it-"

"YES- yes- sorry yes that would be awesome-yay! I'm actually hungry and that would be perfect" Of to an amazing start. Gen couldn't be more thankful that Senku seemed to be such a great host, offering him exactly what he needed to make this day a blast. He was so hungry, he skipped dinner last night and had a light lunch the day before as well. He had to cancel his dinner reservations because of some... persistent fans. They had found out he would be there and it became a safety hazard.

So Gen felt like he was meeting with an angel as Senku guided him inside towards a black and tall stool at his kitchen's island. He sat down comfortably as Senku went back to lock his door.

And wow, it was much cooler inside than out. No wonder he was dressed so warmly, he had good air conditioning.

"Its a lot fancier than I expected here, I would have thought you were a minimalist or messy considering how much of a workaholic you claim to be over text" Gen decided it was too quiet. So what better way to solve that then to do some banter?

"Haha. Pulling verbal punches already? How rude of you, I thought you were an eeexxxppert in hospitality Asagiri Gen." Senku readied his plate as he looked back, jokingly pointing at him accusingly.

Gen chuckled. It was a relief to see evidence that Senku liked the banter in real life as well, not just over text. "Well I'm not working now am I? Believe it or not I'm at a friend's house. He is being an angel feeding me when I didn't have enough time to cook and I don't want to have to kiss up to a friend"

"Oh really? I'm in said friend's shoes right now actually. I wouldn't call myself an angel but I am feeding him. But like you, he is giving me a bit of attitude, maybe I shouldn't share my angelically prepared breakfast with him?" The look on Senku's face was down right evil. He took it back, he was not angelic. Senku looked very much like a scheeming little devil that Gen tended to act like himself. But he couldn't just loose the food he was offered-!! He really was starving!

"Wellllll I'd like to tell my own friend sorry for the attitude, and to you, Senku~ Chan! I will do anything for forgiveness! As long as I can eat the food!!!!"

"Oh really? Even if the price was something stupid like a kiss?"

Gen's entire world became still in that moment. His face exploded in red as he stared at Senku. And the man stared at him back, before cracking up and almost doubling over in laughter.

Oh, it was a joke. Obviously- right. Gen felt embarrassed but he also did see the humour in such a sudden silly comment. Why is he feeling so?? So of guard right now?

"HAHA! THE LOOK ON YOUR FACE!!!" Senku's eye's and tounge looked almost snake-like as he laughed. A cute laugh in Gen's opinion but he wasn't focused on that. "Aha! Sorry- sorry. Ha- Sorry I just haaad to say that. There's no way I could have won at banter against you with your silver tongue, so I just needed to catch you off guard. I never expected you to turn into a tomato. Mentalist, you're much more easy to tease than I had expected."

"Hey! No fair Senku~chan! I was just caught of guard- like you said!!! No way a guy like you could tease me so easily!! I'm- I'm just red with anger that your distracting me from the food- I don't know! Something like that!"

The fact that Senku looked genuinely pleased with himself, still chucking at Gen's expression both infuriated, embarrassed and delighted Gen all at once. This morning hadn't gone anything like he expected and he felt so los-

"Here, here. Take this and eat. You're pouting so hard that I feel like I'm bullying you." Gen had just recieved a tray from senku, a portion of miso soup, some grilled salmon, tofu, nori, steamed rice and tamagoyaki were all added in separate plates to it. And immediately Gen forgave Senku-

"Wow-!! You are an angel! This is amazing, did you really cook all of this?"

"I did, my dad decided it was mandatory for me to take some cooking lessons after a while of living on my own. Said I looked too much like skin and bones and needed to eat properly to survive. I was surviving on a lot of cup noodles before so it was a valid concern. But now I can cook, its just a matter of if I want to. Lucku for you as I felt like cooking breakfast and extra of it." Gen took a moments to just, stare in awe at Senku. He really seemed to be a reliable guy. Very skilled and oddly relatable. But it wasn't long before he was grinning like an idiot.

"Yeah-! I am lucky, thank you Senku, really this is really just the best." He had a passing thought that it would be perfect if only he had some cola. But he shouldn't be picky. "Well, Itadakimasu!" Gen didn't waste time, slurping down the Miso soup, eating the grilled salmon and snacking on the Nori. He slowed his pace after the first initial dishes but he still finished relatively quickly. Chopsticks moving fast on the tray. As he ate Senku took out some snacks from a cupboard, ones he bought for today, basically preparing another tray of food for the day.

They were planning to binge an entire two season series. It made sense to have snacks.

Once Gen was done, he arranged the plates exactly as they were before on the tray. Then picked them up to clean. The least he could do was wash them up-

"There's a dish washer to your right. Don't bother with washing by hand, it's less efficient." Huh, and he was telling the truth too, there was one.

By the time Gen had placed all the dishes away, Senku was already guiding him towards the living room, the snacks being carried by them both to avoid a return trip to the kitchen.

Thankfully, Senku had a large comfortable sofa And the living room was very spacious, with a flat screen TV. It wasn't much of a surprise, of course Nasa would pay handsomely so that Senku could have a comfortable home of his own.

Gen decided to show off though. He placed the snacks he held down on the coffee table, and decided to do a trick. He had prepared this at home last minute because he thought it would be a neat little thing to do.

He dramatically shook his arms, much to the momentary confusion of Senku, catching his attention. And without missing a beat, Gen removed a whole blanket from under his sleeves. It wouldn't be such a surprising thing, if it wasn't for the fact at how large and poofy it was. Logically it wouldn't make sense as to how it fit under his clothes when folded, but he didn't feel like explaining it to the dumbfounded Senku. In fact he chuckled at his calculating expression. Casually offering for Senku to share it with him, it was big enough to cover the entire sofa anyways so it wasn't a weird or personal thing. They weren't going to be hauled too close together afterall. They both sat on opposite ends as Senku briefly explained the Series he had chose for them to watch.

It wasn't the first time Senku explained it, but he was still thankful for the reminder. Once they both got cozy Gen said.

"Thanks for trusting me enough to come over and do this with you. It's been a while since I've hanged out at a friend's place with genuine intentions." He ensured that he said it matter of factly. He didn't want to emotionally guilt Senku by accident, so he controlled his tone like the the professional he is.

"Don't look to much into it Mentalist, you are a friend and there's no need to be sappy over the fact your hanging out over at my place. Even if it's sickeningly sweet and an appreciated sentiment."

Gen nodded, smiling in relief. And Senku proceeded to start the show my pressing on his remote.

____

Senku and Gen had managed to watch through the first season, the time at 6 pm already and during the course of the show, they had slowly migrated closer together. They had been munching on snacks together and practically would have been cuddling if the blanket wasn't between them. Honestly it was just comfortable for them both to observe from the same point, and easier to grab snacks like this.

And today had been a first for Gen, he hasn't really binged a show with anyone else before. Not like this. Watching The Orville together was a great experience for them both, yet Gen couldn't help but feel a bit envious that he hasn't done this before. It was a petty feeling, one as fleeting as the wind. And he didn't direct the feelings at Senku either, when they appeared.

It just sucked that he couldn't enjoy a show in this form of viewing it until today.

Though that didn't mean that Gen wasn't having a blast. He was so close to Senku, enjoying a movie together. He also noticed Senku staring at him on more than one account. It gave Gen a chance to stare back which was nice.

He got to understand Senku more through his reactions and he liked to think Senku was doing the same for him. But anyways, what was he thinking about again?

Oh yeah- he never got round to mention it to Senku but he would have the day off tomorrow as well. They were definitely not close to finishing the second season. Heck, Senku was coming to that conclusion as they speak... but more scientifically? Thats what he assumed at least. Observing the subtle crease in his brow, the way he had raised a finger at eye level, infront of his nose. Focusing on it, looking like he was trying to figure something out.

"Hey Senku chan? You probably noticed already, butttt i dont think we will finish watching it today-"

"Yeah, I came to the same conclusion. It's annoying, but we need to sleep and I doubt you can stay over tonight. We hadn't prepared for it, your probably busy tomorrow Gen. And if i'm correct about that then we need to figure out when we can do this again soon. I would probably get impatient and watch ahead if we couldn't which would such since it is much more enjoyable to watch it with a friend. Wouldn't you say so Mentalist?"

Gen took a moment to just stare at Senku. All that concentration just for that conclusion? Ha. There was no way that was all Senku had thought about. If his reading comprehension that he guaged from their texts were anything to go by, Senku could sort through information mentally quite fast. Odd but he wasn't going to pry. Afterall, if he tried he might forget to mention something else, that he could stay over.

"Well Senku, I think it's your lucky day! I actually am free tomorrow, what are the chances? Don't answer that- please. Knowing you, even as slightly as I do right now, you may take that as a challenge. But asically-bay! I can stay overnight and well into the next day. Only if that works with you? I wouldn't want to intrude anymore than I have. Not without your explicit a-okay."

Gen was able to notice the slight deflation of Senku's shoulders, and the way he turned to him with a relaxed smile.

"You should have told me that earlier Mentalist. As now we are very unprepared. We could have sorted you out a proper sleeping spot but now you will probably need to couch surf. And you could have organised a sleep over kit of sorts."

"Yeah yeah, no need to lecture me. It never came up in conversation and in all honesty, I didn't realise The Orville would be this lengthy of a series. But I think it's fine, we can stay up as long as we can and in the morning continue to watch it! I don't mind not having anything prepared, everyone has a few extra toothbrushes stored away so I can use one of those if that's okay- and I can sleep in the same outfit. It's eally-ray no biggie."

"If you say so, don't go complaining to me if your uncomfortable though"

"Wouldn't dream of it Senku-chan! Plus I'm pretty comfortable right now, aren't you?" Huh, wow. Gen just made Senku comprehend how close they were in that moment. He had no idea why he made Senku draw attention to it, at how close they were under Gen's own warm blanket. And it did cause Gen subtle anxiety as he witnessed Senku's face harden momentarily, when registering their closeness, when earlier that morning they were on opposite sides of the sofa. But also causing him to fight his own exhale of relief at Senku's acceptance and nonchalant body language he adopted right after.

"It's not what I'm used to but I won't deny when I'm in a comfortable position."

"That's the spirit Senku-chan! So there isn't any way that I could feel uncomfortable, at least for now. So I won't try to complain"

During the night, Senku watched as Gen gradually fell asleep beside him. They had managed to stay up until 3:46 am.

He paused the show and respectfully nudged Gen awake, leaving him in a sleepy daze. Senku the ever intelligent and responsible man that he was, brought him over towards the bathroom and gave him a toothbrush. Senku would rather he focus on basic hygiene as he himself converted the sofa to flatten, to act as a mattress. He grabbed the spare pillows from a nook of the apartment and arranged them with the blanket sensibly.

In all honesty, Senku was aware he wouldn't normally do such things for someone else, maybe if he could pawn off good deeds indirectly, but otherwise he wouldn't. Gen was a grown man and could wake up by himself, arrange the blanket and pillows himself and guide himself to the bathroom to brush his teeth on his own instead of being guided to do it. And yet, Senku was being responsible. He knew he could have left Gen in the blankets and left him to sleep like that, it wouldn't be any issue if he did. It would just bother him.

Gen was now a good friend, despite how quick they seemed to hit it off and the lack of independence knowledge on each other most friends would have, it was the case for them. And Senku hated to admit it but he did cherish his friends. He didn't mind being a bit responsible this late at night to ensure Gen didn't wake up the next morning with rotten teeth and uncomfortable from the way he slept. Well that is a bit of an exaggeration, but they did have a lot of snacks and such today, and sleeping in a sitting position wouldn't be that good for your back.

Doing this just was him looking out for Gen- and so was tucking in the already fast asleep Gen when he came over and all but crawled onto the sofa and under the cover of his own, giant blanket. Gen had wished him goodnight before his eyes closed and Senku responded a bit too late for Gen to register. Thought that didn't matter much.

What mattered was getting to bed himself. Today was oddly unproductive for him, but it was very bareable. He left to the bathroom to do his own nightly routine. Leaving him time to ponder on his own about today. He couldn't lie to himself, he barely paid attention to the show. He was too focused on making the effort on understanding the mystery that was Gen.

He was too busy watching his responses, answering his questions and engaging in little rants about every episode. He knew he was going to use this as an opportunity to get to know Gen a bit more, but he only understood after the fact at how much he was doing it. Gen even noticed on several occasions, staring back at him. He seemed happy about it though, almost as if telling him he could try but he wouldn't be able to piece together that was the mystery of this man.

It was silly. Why was he even so focused on this? Was it because he tried to search up public information on this man? And found little involving personal details and interests and dislikes of Gen's? It seemed no one has managed to truly grasp what he is like outside of his carefully crafted persona and yet it felt like Gen was openly allowing him the chance to find out. And it made him stare like some love sick fool. It was embarrassing. He looked at his reflection in the mirror infront of him. Spitting out the contents of the toothpaste with a huff.

It was embarrassing to be caught staring like that. He genuinely was now so curious and it made it hard to focus on enjoying the show with Gen. It didn't seem like it was only him though, Gen looked a bit odd just before they agreed he was staying over for the night. It was very short lived but Senku did notice the expression. It reminded him of Xeno, his mentor, when he was frustrated.

It was annoying that neither of them was fully able to enjoy themselves. It wasn't that he wasn't having fun at all, this just made it a bit dull. When Senku had noticed the time and was mulling over their options, he was honestly considering talking to Gen about it, on how to go about it and if an extended period of time could make them forget these other feelings so they could truly enjoy themselves. But then Gen said he could stay over and he lost the chance to ask.

He will in the morning though. Ask that is. He needed to get over his curiosity and ensure Gen was also in better spirits. Senku had no clue that Gen was just momentarily upset at this being his first time watching a show with anyone. That he wanted to have such fun more often. That Senku was overly concerned about it. But what he wasn't aware of wouldn't hurt him. He would clear that up with Gen tomorrow.

For now Senku rinsed his toothbrush and returned to the living room. Quietly cleaning up the coffee table of the snacks from before so Gen could wake up without the mess beside him.

And then he left to his own room, changing into his pyjamas and calling it a night. He was exhausted and knew his mind was starting to think things through a bit repetitively, a bit unclearly. He needed sleep so he followed Gen's lead, crawling onto his bed, under the covers and tried to sleep.

Eventually he managed.

And finally his racing mind quieted just like Gen's had. These two had been over thinking a lot today, but...

It was a surprise that these two overthinkers didn't once ever stop to consider their current situation or anything. At how unusual it was to hangout like this with such a long extended period of time of leaning onto each other in comfortable warmth. Whilst sharing snacks. Staring into each other's eyes with their thoughts filled with each other and the activity.

Oh well. They always could in the far future. When they finally catch feelings. But of course, that's foreshadowing, isn't it?

Notes:

Ahhhhhhh- I started to ramble a bit with this one- if it's hard to follow the flow of the story then that's on me- sorry- it's a bittttt difficult for me to manage sometimes. It's how my thought process is tbh.

Anyways- uhhhh hope this not-yet date of the two was satisfactory. I wanted them to basically be lost in each other's eyes- focused on each other without the need of romance. They haven't been friends that long afterall- feels are a thing that shall come with time.

That doesn't mean I don't want them to both freak out about how couple like they actually are in the future- I want them to look back at their relationship at somepoint and actually be confident that they could genuinely be something together- that they have actual chemistry. Being in love or not- but will be in love in the future- if that makes sense-

Hopefully you all enjoyed this chapter- it's been on my mind for a while now.

Chapter 10: Going home

Summary:

Forgive me- but we are skipping right after they finding the show. I feel like it would be a bit repetitive to write and they will literally just be continuing where they left off yesterday.

Also I am sickkkkk- so forgive if the chapter doesn't make 100% sense or if it's short- (even tho I feel like I usually only write short chapters-)

Chapter Text

Gen had insisted to clean up once they were done. Folding away the blanket and managing to sort the remaining snacks neatly, (with guidance) in the correct places in the kitchen. Then loaded and began the dishwasher just so Senku wouldn't have to.

It was a fantastic experience to do this with Senku. But he couldn't help the slight embarrassment from staying over unprepared and Senku having to help him just to brush his teeth.

Yeah he threw away that toothbrush once he used it again in the morning. He couldn't handle the temptation of keeping it. He used Senku's toothpaste and it had the residue. He knew he wasn't some crazy fan so he obviously prevented himself from being obsessed with such a momento.

Yeah- even he understood how weird it was to be thinking like that in the first place. It's mainly the reason he threw it away, more so than what was just explained. The fact he was even considering treasuring a simple toothbrush was a cry for help.

He could understand he was too overwhelmed right now. As, in any calm state of mind, he knew he wouldn't have thought of such a thing normally. It's azy-cray. Utterly crazy to him.

And of course, in a frantic disarray he immediately set to clean up because if he didn't he would have to face the further embarrassment of Senku cleaning up after him.

It's why he was doing this and before he could even ask what else he could do, to help, but mainly distract himself, he felt a hand firmly on his shoulder.

"Hey, I do like it when people give their all in manual labour for me, it's more useful than hell in my line of work. But you really don't need to."

"Ah Senku-chan you really scared me right there. And I really appreciate your concern but it really isn't anything special on my part. Just trying to be a good guest-"

"And as a fellow host, considering that I am hosting you right now, you should know it's my job right now to clean up after you. Though you made my life easier so thank you for that. I won't skim out on praising you where credit is due. I will tell you however, to not worry about the rest." Gen felt the weight of his hand lift from his shoulder. He almost mourned the loss, turning around with a greatful smile.

"If you say so Senku-chan. I, myself wouldn't dare skim out on the chance to be lazy" and oh. Gen didn't know how to describe the smirk, the chuckle or the way Senku crossed his arms and looked at him with those eyes. That took him of guard. But it made his day that he managed to make him laugh, even if it was only a little.

"Good on you mentalist. Taking advantage of everything given to you on a silver plate, sometimes I wish I could do the same."

"It's a practiced skill, I don't oubt-day you could do the same if you tried."

"Maybe, maybe but I don't have the patience to try." Gen observed as Senku pulled out his phone. "I'm going to order in, tell me what you want. We haven't had a proper meal since yesterday."

And Gen, slightly panicked. He couldn't have Senku spend money on him. He already did a lot. So he did what he knew best, manipulate the situation so that Gen could have it his way without insulting the effort Senku put in.

"How wonderful of you to offer. But Senku dear, you shouldn't. See, my manager said I will have a company breakfast tomorrow and that there's going to be a lot of food. I couldn't plausibly spend your hard earned money when I'm going to be filled up tomorrow by others spending a lot more. I hope you find something good for yourself instead."

"Hm, makes sense, if you eat now you might feel too heavy tomorrow." Gen was impressed with the way Senku didn't even seem upset or annoyed. Just inputting his own order into the app he was using with a practiced indifference. He truly was very pragmatic, Gen could truly admire that, not everyone was. Though he could just be responding normally, the amount of times he rejected offers for dinner and lunch from people before resulting in disheartened or irritable people probably formed a negative or incorrect bias on how people were supposed to respond.

"Oh and Senku?"

"Yeah? What's up"

"Thank you for today, truly it was the first time I have done something like this. It was fun, next time I will organise something for us."

"Already thinking up a next time huh? How practical of you mentalist. What have you got in mind?"

"Where's the fun in sharing that? Though, completely unrelated question." Gen shifted his tone with that last statement. It was related but he acted all serious to seem like it wasn't. "I haven't really asked anything like this because I didn't really want to impose you with so many questions just because we became friends. But I really curious. I heard rumours that Astronauts usually have their own Observatory? Is that true? Do you have one?"

"Gen, I think whoever you heard this from is mistaking Astronauts with astronomers. It's an honest mistake, just let them down easy with the correction. Because at the very least, neither me nor my father just have our own."

Gen had the skill to pull off a wide doe eyed expression. Mouth agape, before turning his head quickly. Face flushed and eyes averted. Feet turned away from him and his posture looking slightly shorter, more curled in on himself that before. Things that would highlight a sudden embarrassment. But he didn't want to make Senku feel guilty by a fake performance so he pretended to swallow his embarrassment and laughed, facing senku back, but more positive and embarrassed rather than how he was portraying himself a second earlier.

"Silly me, yeah I see that myself now. Though thank you for answering my question. It's been nagging me for a while"

"It's no biggie. Also don't think I didn't notice you suddenly changing the subject- I really want to know what you have planned." Gen was smirking in his thoughts. He knew he had successfully tricked Senku. Using his manipulation to divert his focus from realising what his actual goal of that question was.

In reality, Gen asked that to see if Senku owned one because he knew that he wanted to prepare ahead of time. What today has told him was that Senku is a friend he doesn't want to loose. He hasn't just chilled with anyone in years. So of course he wanted to prepare.

Afterall, what he had in mind might take a while to get. But Gen knew immediately that for Christmas this astronomy based gift would make Senku's day. Especially being something confirmed by his choice of TV show. His love for space isn't just limited to his job.

It was months in advance but when he thought of it he knew it would be something that would take ages to prepare anyways.

And Gen decided to just smile at Senku. Lost in his own thoughts as Senku just sighed, unimpressed and led him towards the door, unlocking it and opening it. Stepping aside so that Gen could leave.

"I'm going to text you later and figure out what your planning for us." Senku said deadpanned. He seemed almost childlike with his insistence to know. Which only made Gen smile wider and waved him goodbye. Not even gratifying Senku with any form of verbal response, still somewhat lost in his thoughts about how to secure Senku's friendship. Even if they seemed a bit over the top and even extreme.

And that's how Gen left, heading back towards his house, face hidden by a mask that he had in his pockets. A habit from years of stardom, and a certain pandemic.

Senku retreated into his own home, eating the take out when it arrived later and oddly satisfied despite the unsatisfaction from not knowing what Gen had planned. He had a really fun time afterall, he hadn't had anyone stay over in a while and actually finishing a whole TV series with someone was always a fun experience.

So he was happy.

Notes:

Wwwaaaaaaaaaah- like I said- short chapter-

But it's fine- I think it went fine and it was okay-! Thanks for bearing with my lack of posting even if technically it's still within the promised once a week-

(if ur curious as to why I changed it to that- I have several side projects I have begun or am doing that take up my time now- such as painting a wall art on the wall of my room-)

Hope it was a fun one- and a alight insight on Gen trying to make sense of whatever he is feeling rn- and completely not understanding it and not even taking notice at the extremes he is doing as a result of them. Like- who actually buys a whole observatory for someone without being in love-???

Unless it's work related- or platonic family-

BUT GEN DOESNT MEET THAT REQUIREMENT- not now nor in canon- he be smitten lmao- but yeah- hope ya also like the foreshadowing of something Gen will do monttthhhsss later-

Also wow- this is getting very Gen Centric rn- tell me off next chapter if I don't do a Senku pov-

Chapter 11: Progress

Summary:

Gen got exposed. Hard to hide the truth from a genius- right?

I wonder how well or bad Senku will take it?

Chapter Text

It was later in the day when Senku received a detailed email from Byakuya, seems like the old man had started on their agreement. It looked like several rough formulas for his YouTube channel.

The educational format and ideas of how to split up practical and explanatory videos in educational ways. There was no information there to use for his videos, however. It looked like Senku would need to put in some elbow grease of his own, figuring out the topics and the orders of how to do them.

But Senku was having a chill day. He wanted to be lazy just a bit longer. How could he not, when all he has done so far is have snacks and watched a marathon with the mentalist? Even if he loved to get engrossed with science to an unhealthy level, neglecting other parts of life and does it with a maniacal glint in his eyes... Senku surprisingly enjoyed this break.

Not because he was burnt out or lost interest or anything of negative consequence. Genuinely, it was relaxing after constantly going through life excited by his discoveries. Excitement can be draining despite motivating.

So he decided to be lazy, and pretend like he hadn't read the email. Praise Gmail not having a feature to tell if someone has read their emails. Though, now that he had checked his emails, he saw something that piqued his interest. Wasn't that Gen's work Email? And from what it looked like- it was an email forwarded to those in his company too? Odd.

This was news to him. Why hadn't the mentalist mentioned he reached out- Wait. Oh. It looked like Gen had successfully tricked him... it looks like he knew who he was before they met. It's obvious why... The furthest date of emails sent was during his space exhibition.

_______________

Gen had just got home. Currently he was laying on his sofa, staring into the roof of the room and was thinking back on every detail of his experience over at Senku's.

At the outfit that Senku wore, and how the appartment seemed much more expensive than he would have expected, lived in, but also looking like he hadn't all at the same time. Though that could just be cause he was in space for a while. No one would have been there to keep it looking like it was well lived in.

And then the fact that they shared snacks- which Gen was internally very fulfilled by. He hasn't shared snacks like that with anyone except for his parents when he was a kid. Sharing popcorn at a cinema. To feel comfortable enough to do that with a friend was great, as despite his celebrity status and friends, he always felt a social expectation by them to maintain a less relaxed friendship. More gossiping and joking and parties. All fun and games which, yeah, ool-cay to have such an experience. But so what? Chilling with Senku felt just as cool and even more warm. Though Gen also knew they were side by side under a blanket the entire time which could have contributed to that feeling.

And also, when he was walking home he had made sure to make a reminder to later look up observatories for sale. He was definitely jumping the gun, they haven't been friends for long and he didn't even know his birthday yet. And wow, he was thinking of so many buts to justify himself right now- and yet he was very sure that Senku was a friend he won't be able to live without now. He wanted to get him a great gift to show his appreciation for him. Both as a fan and friend.

The fan part still secret... He needed to find a way to tell that to Senku soon. It wouldn't be good to keep him under the assumption he was no-

Huh???? Why is he calling? Gen looked towards his phone. He had left it on the coffee table next to the sofa. And he was perplexed. Senku has never called him before? They normally just texted- this was new.

So as Gen was internally confused he picked up his phone, and with every fiber of his being, acted like he wasn't. "Hey Senku-Chan! What's up? Did I leave something at your place by accident?"

"Nope, I just found out something pretty interesting. Care to take a guess?"

"Oh come on now Senku, I can't just make a random gander without any clues! It's no fair. Don't be mean and let a guy have a promt to guess from at least."

"Funny, but I rather just tell you if your not willing to guess without a clue"

"Awww- where's the fun in that Senku~chan?" Gen couldn't help but grin. He could practically hear Senku's amusement from his own use of a childish tone.

"Well discoveries are fun and I have just had one. And I'm regrettably not even irritated, I'm intrigued."

"That's not even a good clue and you know it"

"Well get excited, your not getting a clue. Let's just call this a friendly interrogation. How long have you been watching my videos."

Gen almost dropped his phone. "What? You make videos? I had no idea-" Gen began to whisper now- he was freaking out- how on earth did Senku find out? Was he going to hate him? Think of him as weird? He screwed up- he needed to salvage this. Damn it!! What is he even supposed to say right now??? "I didn't know you made that type of videos... don't worry! I won't judge, everyone has their hobbies?" OH WHAT HAD HE DONE? Gen was truly freaking out now. What kind of response was that?? He is so stupid- why did he e-

"PFFHAAAHAHAHA- GEN- Ha! Hahha. Heck Mentalist- ha. Okay. Way to double down- I know your a professional but even if your tone was convincing as hell- what even was that response??"

Gen just shouted back. "I DON'T KNOW OKAY? I GET CAUGHT OF GUARD TOO YOU KNOW!!! How did you even find out??? I didn't even mention a word about being a fan of yours!!!"

"The emails-"

"Oh. Oh shit- I forgot about those. Damn it- you must think that I'm weird."

"Nah, don't assume something so illogical Gen. You're impressive, I've read all of your books and even I couldn't tell you were using tactics I read your explanations of. And I practically memorised everything."

"I just have had years of practic- oh you read all of my books? Did you think that they're any good?"

"Yeah, on a scientific standpoint, your approaches to psychology and explaining it in a way that entertains your fans without revealing too much of every trick so that you can keep them immersed and awed is executed quite well. I always had assumed that was part in thanks to a writer, but no. After experiencing it first hand? Your idolect matches the book. You are really the fascinating guy mentalist."

"Nice to know" Gen took a breath. He was incredibly on edge now, but damn him, he had hope. Senku hadn't grilled him out for lying, just complimented him in ways others didn't seem to convey in such a sincere way before. No it was just because it was coming from Senku it felt this sincere... "So, are you mad at me aswell Senku dear? I did lie through my teeth. I already knew you went to space, about who you were when you first approached me and all... I have no sure way to tell how your thinking right now. I'm incredibly nervous to hear your reply, I'm literally shaking."

Gen had said it with such a cheery tone that you would think he was maybe even joking, but he wasn't. His hands had a slight tremor as his thoughts raced and anticipated a hopefully positive response.

And then he heard him sigh. Breathy and short. "Gen I can't even be mad. I'm really just impressed, and curious. Tell me, tell me how long you have known about me."

And so Gen did. The first ever phone call they shared and Gen was spilling every truth. No one has ever made him be this truthful before. No one still has, Senku didn't make him.

Gen just found it easy to be honest with him.

It was like a weight lifted off his shoulders. It wasn't from any guilt from lying, Senku wasn't upset about it, he didn't feel the need to harbour guilt. It was the fact that he realised he was comfortable being honest.

That was relaxing enough.

"I should have guessed it was the coke making video. You talk about it being your favourite brand when you don't know what else to say. Your obsessed. "

"Yep, yes I am. Old news- now tell me Senku. Now that you know that I basically wormed my way into friendship with you because I'm so 'obsessed' over a beverage, will you make it for meeeeeeee please? For the rest of our happily friendship lives?"

"What was that? A proposal?" Gen could hear the teasing tone a mile away. Glad to know Senku was just as playful as ever- he bet that senku was probably laying down on his stomach- arms propped up and his legs kicking like a kid. And in fact- he was.

"If I have to marry you to have free and mass access to Cola? I am willing to make that sacrifice."

The laugh that proceeded to fill Gen's ears truly made all the tension he felt melt away. He chuckled slightly himself before continuing.

"I would rather marry for cola than love anyways Senku~Chan. What about you? Would they also have to be such a science nerd or is there no such equirement-ray?"

"Well I don't actually know exactly. Who thinks about marriage seriously when they haven't even dated yet? I guess being smart is a main thing, but science isn't necessarily a requirement. Just as long as I can have intellectual conversations with them. But enough side tracking me from the conversation Mentalist. I have more questions."

"Hmmm, but I would rather talk about something else, afterall I'm quite embarassed~ this is the first time I've been caught in such a big lie afterall and the person isn't mad about it. I have no clue what to feel."

"Aren't those two statements contradictory Gen?"

"And? Both can be true at the same time as well Senku. Though I will say, we can always pick up the topic another time."

It was a few seconds before he heard Senku sigh, as if he had given it some thought before relenting. "Well then I guess I will just get excited some other time to hear more."

"That's the spirit Senku-dear. Suspense always is a good way to motivate excitement afterall~"

______________________

It wasn't too long after that they finished the phone call. And now Senku was left staring at the opposite side of his room. He was trying to calculate what else to do.

Gen had referred to himself as his long term fan. Having caught up to all of his silly educational videos and his few TV appearances as an astronaut. And he even somehow has read some of his research papers? Gen's dedication was surprising, mainly because he didn't seem to be a person with so much of it. It may be a bit rude to think but Senku had always noticed a slight shrewdness to Gen, a man happiest with the easy way out and going with the flow but taking advantage of it. For Gen to actively dedicate himself as his fan, going as far to reading his own scientific work he was about 63.9% sure that Gen had less than 57% understanding of... It was exciting, motivating really.

He felt inadequate for not showing the same level of respect back. Heck Gen is a Celebrity. If he was comfortable being such a fan of his friend why couldn't Senku show the same enthusiasm?

He would need to do the same for Gen. To watch all of his tv appearances, to see any YouTube presence and other writings he has done. So that they would be on even territory.

There was no doubt that Gen feels a tad uncomfortable about the way he was invested in him. So what better thing could a friend do to reassure them than making it normal for them both?

And that's what has led to Senku staring across the room. Blankly.

He was trying to see how much of Gen's books he remembered of the top of his head. And if he should reread them or not.

Later he would probably start scouring the Internet about Gen and other such stuff but right now it was best to deal with what was most readily available to him.

The psychology books Gen had published that he had somewhere in his own miniature home library downstairs.

On a separate note, Senku should probably show Gen that he has that room next time he comes by. He could probably help him figure out the best way to organise it based on some psychological means.

But for now. Remembering the content of the books.

Notes:

AAAAAAAAA- hi- I'm good now.

I am much better now- thank you for those that still sent messages of well wishes before- they're appreciated! Even though not all that necessary- especially now that I'm fine- but still thank you-

Also wow- finally a chapter after how long? Sorry for the wait- I swear it's unintended to have been absent for more than 1 week- I've just been sidetracked. My grandparents have moved in for the month so it's been a bit too hectic to write comfortably recently-

But things have settled down now so expect more soon!

Chapter 12: A set date

Summary:

An extremely short chapter- I am a bit busy rn hence this is such a short one- but I should be more free soon-!!! So will probably have more words next time round-

Chapter Text

Nikki was sorting out Gen's scheduling. She was trying to give him the most free time she could per his request... but it was slightly difficult when everyone was making big offers at the moment.

And why did Gen even have to dye his hair so soon? It has been annoying having to ensure companies that they did end up working with recently, complied with keeping it hidden from the public...

All so he can cause the biggest impact at that boat party... when he shows up with asymmetry as his personal outfit theme.

The amount of extra work she has been putting in deserves a raise. She will most probably text him about that later...

Actually why not now? It was as good as time as ever. Gen was still enjoying his days off. Staying over at a friend's overnight- he should be home by now.

It was getting late but knowing him? He might be up right now doom-scrolling. Drinking some cola and probably ruining his ability to sleep because it is most definitely not the non-caffinated version.

So as she was dealing with his schedule for the week- she multitasked and texted him. Well she wanted to atleast.

It turned out he had already beaten him to the punch, as when she un-silenced her phone and turned off "do not disturb"... her phone has several messages sent by him.

And she understood why once she opened up the app.

It was messages telling her that the Nanami company had finally revealed the exact day that the boat party was going to happen.

Damn. Now she had to call the people who were wanting to talk to them about doing a guest appearance that week at an idol competition in another part of Japan... it was odd that the Korean groups were shooting here in Japan, but it might have been a safety issue and didn't matter to much to her. What did matter is that they might have to either skip this opportunity or reschedule it now.

The only reason this even remotely sucked was because Gen was genuinely looking forward to it... oh well.

Bellow is a downloaded picture of a social media statement from the Nanami company, along side a video and screenshots of messages they had sent. All about the set date being confirmed and being privately sent to guests. And further down was a screenshot of Gen's official work email. He had received the exact date and time, even the location the boat would be docked at.

NIIIIKKIIIIIIIIIII- LOOK- LOOK IT IS INALLY-FAY HAPPENING!!!!!!! TELL EVERYONE- I'M GOING TO MESSAGE SENKU- SO HE IS ALSO AWARE- 23:21

NVM- IT LOOKS LIKE IT WASNT NECESSARY- HIS STEPMOM ALRDY MESSAGED HIM- BUT WAAAAAAAAA- THIS IS GOING TO BE SO EXCITING- 23:24

She also figured talks about a pay raise would also be for tomorrow.

Tomorrow would be a busy day for her it seems....

Chapter Text

Nikki was already at her office, ready to get things sorted. She had admittedly left a lot of the more annoying tasks for her to get through today. It was fine, she could manage that- she was surprisingly good at leading and working through things.

It was just not something... she was looking forward to? For lack of better wording.

But what could not be put on hold right now. Calling the still yet to be named idol competition. Seeing if they could reschedule so that Gen could still make the appearance. If she didn't have a choice, she would go as far as paying them for Gen's appearance instead. But that was not a good look business wise.

But it was still early... who would want to be called so early on in the day? Not her. Probably not the producers of the show either. Hm.

It didn't take her long after that thought process, to open her laptop and write an email about the dilemma, inviting them to call her within the hours of 11 am until 4 pm to get everything sorted. Or to just email back within working hours if that was prefered.

She specified the sudden and unchangeable unavailability of their set dates and their sincerest apologies. Doing her best to offer a compromise and showcasing the excitement, that Gen had, to still participate, without sounding desperate about it.

She was good at maneuvering the conversation to make them viewed in a better light, to convince others to just agree even if it was difficult. Maybe in another life she could have been a diplomat.

But she was content like this, she was happy being responsible for Gen, he is a good boss.

And when she was happy with the email, ensuring it neither was too brief or dragged on, she sent it. Hoping for good news.

Next on her agenda, going through the new offers and getting Gen's opinion on everything. But oddly enough he wasn't here yet. So that would be on hold.

Okay, so then that also means talks on her pay rise would be held back to. Unfortunate, but what could she do? Summon him? Ha.

Now, something she could zone out and do. She took out her headphones from the desk draw and connected it to her phone. Her favourite activity of the day, writing reports.

This was something she implemented in order to be able to do a self review much more easily, keep track of her progress and see what was done which day. It wasn't long until some others also did this, it being a way to prove productivity to get a pay rise.

But that wasn't why she enjoyed it. She could just write about the past days progress whilst listening to her beloved Goddess, Lillian, whilst she wrote. Picking her playlist on Spotify and relaxing against her chair as an angelic voice began to serande within her ears.

And so, she was ready to begin. She opened up Google Docs using her laptop, preferring to make use of the free online tool. It didn't cost her like Word would. And opened up her reports file. Scrolling to the bottom of the page and added a new title, which was just yesterday's date, "The 3rd of June 2026", followed by "Progress and my Productivity".

And began to update the Doc with what she did yesterday. Though she made sure to set a separate note on there, since Gen had access to it and went through it sometimes, to have a better idea of the reasonings behind his schedule.

Telling him to give her that raise soon. She did deserve it.

Taiju was currently on his way to visit his budy, Senku.

It has been a while since he had seen him, having visited him last when he was at the hospital during his rehabilitation, because of his atrophied muscles.

It had been too long! He should have done it ages ago- he knew Senku wouldn't have had the social que to go visit him and his wife once he got out. But the thought that he might make the journey was nice. Bit probably a bit unrealistic right now.

Cause heck, Senku was still recovering wasn't he? So here he was, a gift in hand. On his way to visit his best buddy, send him Yuzuriha's kind regards. She was still working afterall, she didn't have the freedom to come visit herself.

But as he did? Why not make sure Senku was atleast eating and relaxing? Not burying his nose in science books and aerospace engineering because despite how it may upset him to admit, but Taiju knew Senku may loose track of time and not maintain a healthy schedule.

So this was also somewhat of a wellness check.

He hoped to be able to atleast make sure he wasn't lonely, cooped up in his house as he probably was...

Maybe he could see if Senku would be up to going out too. Make sure he has fun, but he wouldn't force things either.

But he was still exited to see how his best budy was doing. He missed him, and he hoped Senku missed him to and would be excited by this surprise visit.

Chapter 14: Two unexpected visitors

Summary:

Taiju! What a great buddy checking in on his best friend.

But he finds himself interrupting senku with another guest?

Chapter Text

Taiju had managed to get up the flight of stairs to his budy's apartment.

One of the things that he noticed wouldn't be the most helpful to Senku was the fact he lived at least 3 floors up. If it wasn't for the elevator he would be struggling to leave the house everyday.

Stairs would probably be an issue for someone with atrophied muscles. Especially that many flights of them. It was a good thing Senku's apartment was accessible because that could have posed a challenge otherwise.

Though he would be screwed if that elevator went out of service. Senku could probably be able to fix it but like heck would his building meet safety criteria if they let a tennant fix such a massive thing... yeah no. Senku is awesome but no way is his best buddy going to get away with fixing it without prior permission which would be hard to get. Despite his qualifications.

But that was just something he noticed and thought up. No need to worry about something that Senku has most likely planned for anyways. Now- to knock on his buddy's door. A surprise visit was probably just what his best buddy needed in his time of boredom and solitude!

.

.

.

Knock

Knock

Knock

.

.

.

"SENKU! It's me! Taiju!!! Are you home buddy??!?"

Yeah this will get his attention. Now he knows it isn't just some random sales person to ignore.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

"Hmm..." Is he not home? Does Senku have an appointment today? No... Senku let's him know about his appointments a month in advance- he would have checked to make sure he would be free today. And Mr Byakuya is with Mrs Lillian abroad, they aren't able to visit him, even if they were to come back early they would have called him and asked to help surprise Senku...

Does Senku even have any other close friends? Who know his address that is. Maybe he is visiting someone else. Or has gone out to take a walk. He mentioned before it's good to go out when he can due to some biological wiring of the brain? Or was it because-

Oh- OH! What a surprise- Senku did have someone over-

.

.

.

"How elegant of you, Taiju, to come visit my little protege. He is currently doing some of his physio exercises. It has been quite some time since we have last spoke. Come in, I am quite sure thanks to your loud announcement Senku already knows it is you, and would scold me if I left you outside for too long"

"Dr Xeno! Of course, of course. When did you arrive in Japan? If I had known I would have gotten you a welcome present." Taiju walked inside when Xeno stepped aside. Closing the door behind him and walking with him to the living room.

"It is quite alright Taiju. You had no clue of my arrival and neither did Senku. We flew in Yesterday night so excuse me if I seem fatigued. It is merely because of jet lag."

"Of course! I could never fault you for that! Haha! I'm just glad to see you in the flesh after so long- it feels like forever since I and Yuzuriha went with Senku on a trip to America- it was cool meeting you back then- have I ever told you how happy I am that you took him seriously back when we were kids? It changed his life- but I don't think Senku will ever admit it!" He had no clue, but to Xeno, his pure joy was contagious and like the chicken pox, good to get infected with early.

"Yes I doubt he would ever admit it, he is too brilliant for that emotional debacle. And yes it has been too long since we came face to face but I recognised you immediately, your booming voice is always a welcome sound."

___________________________

Taiju and Xeno proceeded to catch up with one another. If Senku didn't have the excuse of physio he would probably have to join in on this oddly mundane interaction from two abnormal specimines. It was 1 billion percent an anomaly at how those two got along so well in Senku's mind.

Senku was Xeno's protege and Taiju didn't understand most of the scientific language they used. But it seemed they were sociable... maybe it's because Xeno's husband is a military op or something other- he must have experience nice talking oafs.

Though Xeno never really did answer his question. About if he ever told him before about how happy that he was the two got to meet. Oddly sweet... no that's not the right descriptor here. Taiju has more sweetness then 1000 bee colonies could muster over a period of a decade. Uniquely sweet, that's what Taiju was. For even still caring to mention a thing like that after so long. It's a miracle how this world, especially fame and the fashion industry hasn't tainted this pure man yet. But if they couldn't and greed from Yuzu's wealth couldn't then honestly Taiju was probably a saint like no other.

Good on him, really. He's done well for himself these past years- he works as a personal trainer for high class celebrities and has a reputation that could only be graphed with positive correlation statistically, the number of clients gained against the number of followers and fans of the big oaf always increasing.

It suited Taiju and gave him flexible hours so he could visit on days like today. Lucky guy. Though Senku was also incredibly lucky himself for being on paid break and to get quite a large sum over all himself.

Damn. Since when did he believe in luck? Probability was always accountable for. A certain mentalist must be getting into his head. How exciting. But that's not the point right now. Senku's thoughts were racing as he multitasking. Going through his exercises with practiced accuracy. Trying to be as efficient as plausible-

"OI SENKU!!! CAN WE CALL BYAKUYA?? WE WANT TO MAKE HIM JEALOUS THAT HE'S ALL THE WAY IN AMERICA WHILST WE HANG OUT HERE IN JAPAN!!"

Yeah, Senku would bet 10000 yen that it was 1 trillion percent Xeno's idea as... since when did Taiju cared to make the old man jealous? He didn't have a natural malicious bone in his body...

That doesn't mean he wasn't going to indulge however- "GIVE ME 6 MINUTES AND 32 SECONDS- I WILL BE DONE AND GET DOWN RIGHT AFTER OKAY? DONT TAKE ANY PICTURES WITHOUT ME!!! GET OUT SOME SNACKS AND TURN SOME TRASHY TV SHOW ON- IF WERE GOING TO DO THIS WE DO THIS RIGHT!!!"

"AH SOME GUY NAMED GEN HAS A SHOW ON! XENO SAYS YOUR DAD LIKES HIS SHOWS- THAT TRASHY ENOUGH TELIVISION SENKU?!"

"GEN'S STUFF ISN'T TRASHY JUST FLASHY FOR THE MASSES- HE HAS AN ACTUAL PHD IN THE SPFT SCIENCES YOU KNOW!!!!" Wait- why was he defending his show all of a sudden? Gen's entertainment isn't up his alley- he should call it trashy all he likes. It isn't like Taiju was calling Gen himself trashy- just the content of the show... that Gen wrote, orchestrated, spent time investing and setting up and enjoyed preforming live which takes meticulous hours of planning... huh. Friendship really gives you new perspective.

"SCEW IT- IM COMING DOWN NOW- KEEP UP GEN'S SHOW BUT IF YOU CALL IT TRASHY AGAIN YOU CAN TRY WATCHING IT FIRST AND THEN GET AN OPINION YOU HEAR?!"

For the first time in ages- Senku actually abandoned completing his physio therapy. A very bad practice especially with atrophied muscles... he needed to upkeep his diet and exercise to improve his damaged cells. So of course afterwards Senku finished them... but not without taking that picture with Taiju and Xeno first- oh the old man is going to be so upset he wasn't there for this supposed senatrio they all had just made up-what a good way to start his day.

Notes:

If anyone read the summary and thought Senku would be caught with Gen? Yeah sorry- we ain't that far into the story.

I hope you had fun seeing an introduction to our one and only Dr Xeno Houston Wingfield!

And also yes I live- motivation clapped back

Chapter Text

Gen was currently waiting in the guest dressing rooms of a set. And onestly-say? Making guests appearances can be upppppperrr oring-bay! The logistics and the planning and the waiting.

Just so much waiting. If Gen didn't have his phone he would have died of boredom already. The cab driver was respectful enough when bringing him here. An older gent, so at least he wasn't recognised yet. But now inside? The way everyone first bombarded him, and then rushed me inside to ensure he had a wig that covered his secret hairstyle... add make up to his face that he didn't really need and then just took away all of the attention for him to get mentally ready. It is nice to be left to his own devices, sure. But the lack of anything happening? The lack of being able to be productive or have the choice to be lazzy instead of having literally nothing else to do made time tick by uper-say slowly.

"Ugh..." Gen sighed and ran his hand down the length of his fake hair. He really loved the look but hiding his actual two toned locks for thw big reveal has been getting tedious.

He honestly should have convinced Senku to wait a bit. It was short sighted on both their parts .

And then he recieved a notification? Oh speak of that little devil. What an adorable picture. Of course he had no clue exactly who the two strangers were in the image but from past conversations and memory and just- picking apart of the context of the message accompanied.... "Making my dad jealous. You should meet the big oaf and the evil scientist whilst they're both round. They might not believe me otherwise that we became friends."

Yeah this was efinitely-day his mentor when he was a kid and the absolute sweetheart of a childhood friend he seemed to always sentimentally bring up with pointed yet wholesome remarks.

This was the much needed stimulus to his day.

"Senku I'm coming over again after my guest star apperance"

"Want me to come over with a lot of energy and act like I was dropping in unannounced to do something cool or we go the more polite approach?"

And oh that gremlin definitely would be cackling right now considering his response. How chaotic- Senku never disappoints.

Oh and whilst he was on his phone- he needed to text Nikki. She was over do for a raise and he should let her know she can sort it out for herself. He trusted her so of course she can be trusted to calculate a fair wage and salary increase. So he did. She deserves it after all. She has made it so Gen can actually have a life now compared to his uber busy schedule of the past. She is the best he thought with a small smile.

Notes:

Such a small chapter but ngl- I wouldn't have been able to post it today if I didn't lmao. Holiday homework has got me swamped.

Chapter 16: 1st co-op Scheme

Summary:

Just a continuation of the smaller chapter- but a bit longer chapter to make up for the lack of posting recently. TBH I'm lacking willpower to do fun projects right now when I have year 12 exams in 4 weeks- which I will use for applying to universitiesssss- so they're important! so uhhh- trust me when the holidays arrive? I shall be increasing the amount of posts hopefully back to once a week or more dependant on the mood!

Chapter Text

Gen and Senku were never ones to do anything half-assed. It would be a pointed insult to both of their natures...

Okay, that's a lie. But at least not in the context of a plan. When they schemed, they always seemed to go all out. So it only makes sense, now that they're working together, that they probably will end up concocting something evil.

And it started with Senku having replied to Gen asking if he even knew him at all? Of course yes, he should definitely be as obnoxious as plausible. Maybe pull his tricks to even get the Big Oaf to get jealous... a very difficult feat but if he had to trust anyone to do so, trusting in the mentalist was a safe bet. As long as he didn't take anything too far which in all fairness, Gen had yet to do anything of the such. So there is that.

There wasn't enough data to test the likelihood of that statement, and Senku wasn't bothered to try and do the math when he was preoccupied with trying to figure out the funniest way to get Gen into this impromptu party that he and two of the more influential people in his life seemed to have started. Considering Taiju already ordered a pizza, and Zeno seemed almost eager to be able to annoy his old man later by doing something fun with him, whilst he had this rare opportunity to do as such.

And like any good schemer, he was discreet in his contact- excusing himself to freshen up and letting Taiju and Zeno talk. So, taking to his phone again, they began to text... Gen having a plan. An odd change of pace for the scientist, to not be the one in the lead. He found he liked it though. Probably because it was a good plan. It was simple enough too...

Before Gen arrived, Senku would throw down a spare key for him to catch from outside, a subtle way of making it seem like Gen was a bigger presence in his life right now than the other two would realise. To make it all more shocking- as if his arrival was casual and normal to be unannounced. Something that would solidify an undeniable friendship because Senku rarely ever gave anyone the benefit of the doubt to have his address... let alone unlimited access to his apartment. Heck, Taiju didn't even have a key! Mainly because Senku gave it to Yuzu, who seemed to misplace things less- but still!

It would seem very statistically significant at first glance. You could calculate the probability of this happening via a hypothesis test and the plausibility of this happening is so low that the results could change the statistic entirely.

At least Zeno would clock that. But Taiju wouldn't.

No, that sweet lug would be too busy trying to get Gen's autograph. Cue the rest of Gen's plan that made him want to howl with laughter, but suppressing it into a mere evil giggle... Senku a-okayed this development without a second thought. Also, something he wasn't used to. Cool. Gen is a great addition to his friend group, someone highly intelligent in his own right, that Senku could match with in chaos? How did he live without this manipulative guy? He wormed his way into his life, and he was anticipating the knock-on effect it would all have. It's time to get excited!

They're going to make so much mischief...

____________________________________________

It was- a few? Gruelling hours at this set for Gen... he loves every moment of his job, normally.

But he wanted to hang out with Senku again. The anticipation had made every second longer- every subtle glance he could manage towards a clock or his phone without looking like he was disengaged or impatient on camera only made him more impatient. As barely any time had passed. But now? now Gen was done for the day... he was already in a cab to Senku's apartment and was already texting him with a nervous excitement.

Senku didn't respond as often, probably ensuring he didn't give anything away to his guests, but he matched his nervous energy with pure chaos that made Gen surprisingly fond. So, of course, he was having fun. It was such a simple plan, really- just showing off how Senku had made a friend with a celebrity and doing it in the most abrupt, nonchalant way possible, and uncover ways to annoy the hell out of his friends subtly to see if he could get them to squirm. Since Senku hasn't really seen either of these two people get affected by things like social constructs, as most might.

Taiju was apparently too kind and morally one of the best people ever to really get jealous in any way that wasn't still supportive, and Dr Zeno too smart. And Gen really wanted to test that in his own way. To better understand the people Senku was fond of... he didn't know exactly how to pinpoint why he does he just doesn't want to face any reality he just doesn't think he can handle just yet but he was wanting to take advantage of any information he could get... maybe better bond with Senku if he could.

Damn, if God existed would he be going to hell?

Yeah, an escalation to this whole thing, but it just hit Gen how weird that sounds. How obsessive he might be right now. Here he was dropping anything productive he could be doing today just to crash an- well not crash Senku invited him- but look like he is crashing a party that is probably nearing its end to add some pazas and cause some chaotic fun but really he just wanted to draw every little thing he could from the interaction. Use it to learn about Senku more and no one but him would realise it if he plays his cards right, just to ensure he can make sure Senku still likes him.

He has just manipulated a situation for his advantage to almost take advantage of two people (even though what he plans is harmless to them both) for some obsessive need that he is feeding. He knows better to nurture such toxic behaviour. He should address this later when he is clear of mind. When he is alone and finished with this all and actually work through his feelings...

This is why being an adult sucks people. You can have the most clarity about yourself at the most oddest of times. And then have to address it because morally you are responsible for your own emotions and their healthy outlets. This was not any way to handle a crush-

.

.

.

.

.

Shit.  Gen just had to pinpoint it.

God damn it all.

THIS IS NOT THE BEST REVELATION TO HAVE IN A TAXI ON THE WAY TO SENKU CHAN'S HOUSE!

He is actually so glad that he has a poker face that Senku wouldn't know how to see through because they talk over text more than in person. He has no way of knowing any tells that are so micro in expression that most professionals can't see through it. But he really needed to address his feelings-

He needed to talk to someone about it- preferably one who isn't going to gossip about it either because- Gen just needed to use someone as an outlet to self-manage. Bounce his thoughts off of aloud, because currently gripping his phone as he sees another notification from Senku pop-up... the absolute willpower he will need to maintain to not freak out as he realises he isn't just some fan of his new friend but actively crushing and idolising them on a pedestal which isn't healthy... is not the best way of trying to work through his feelings...

And so, Gen, ever the professional, just... takes a deep breath. Calms himself and suppresses the revelation he has somewhat been ignoring for a bit now... a calm, easy smile that he uses on TV plastered on his face. One so natural it also suppressed the flush down his neck and the wobble of his lips. The slight terror of his eyes and guilty furrow of his eyebrows...

And manages to read the message and not freak out even more...

Oh, he should also probably tip the Cab driver a good amount. Completely off topic but a distraction helps him with his thoughts... and it was probably a fair thing to do as he was probably a bit weird in the back of the car when he realised that he has.... hmm. Yeah not admitting that in his thoughts again. Would risk a crashout...

He should just reward the guy for not asking what's wrong with him alone...

Though the answer to that question seems to be a lot, for right now. He has a list he needs to go through and sort out because what the hell. has he got himself into?

Notes:

REMEMBER- there shall be a new workup at some point, a novel-like rewrite of this entire work. Basically, more consistency and narrative storytelling than me just throwing my half-baked ideas on this website- this entire work is a draft lmao! Hope it's been enjoyable so far despite my now lack of consistent posting...

ANYWAYS!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHA-

Who else was not expecting Gen to become self-aware? Trust me this is still a slowburn- they're not dating any time soon but I had to feed you all something considering how little you all have been getting.
