Work Text:
It’s a gorgeous day outside. There’s a slightly chill breeze hinting of winter, and the sun is only partially hidden behind some clouds. Namjoon loves early mornings like these.
His boyfriends, though? Not so much.
“It’s way too early,” Jimin grumbles, moping as he picks up another box to reluctantly bring it into their house because they have a house together now. “And look at Jeongguk! He’s sitting down.”
Jeongguk scowls cutely from where he’s resting against a stack of four boxes. “I’m just taking a tiny break. What about you ? You spent a good ten minutes today just ogling me and Namjoon.”
Namjoon laughs, cracking up even more when he sees the betrayed look Jimin shoots him before walking inside to place the box with the others. When he returns, he’s quick to defend himself. “You like it when I ogle you by the way!”
They continue bickering while Namjoon goes back inside, idly reading the large KITCHEN on the box before setting it on their kitchen counter. Jeongguk had begged for a kitchen with a bar counter, and Jimin and Namjoon were too in love to even think of turning the idea down.
“You know,” Namjoon muses when he returns to see Jimin and Jeongguk still bickering. “I am actually surprised you aren’t all I Will Carry Everything Inside All At Once like you usually are.”
Jeongguk lets out a soft laugh, finally standing up again and draping himself all over Jimin. “I want to help more, I swear! I don’t know. Just not feeling super great today.” Jimin shifts a bit to let Jeongguk hug him from behind, his face tucked into Jimin’s neck.
“Do you think you’re sick?” Jimin asks worriedly, and Jeongguk simply shrugs.
Ah. He’s definitely a bit sick then.
“Okayyy,” Namjoon decides, walking over to them to unlatch Jeongguk from Jimin. “You should just lie down then. Jimin and I will get the rest of the boxes inside. Most of the work is unpacking everything anyway.”
Predictably, Jeongguk attempts to protest but Namjoon just puts a hand over Jeongguk’s mouth and leads him away and into their bedroom. The bed doesn’t even have sheets on it, but Jeongguk can sleep pretty much anywhere so it’ll have to do for now.
“Don’t even think about trying to help us,” Namjoon warns. Jeongguk pouts at him.
💕
Jeongguk is, in fact, sick. It comes on in full force in the night, and he wakes all three of them up from coughing so badly, his body feverish and shaking. Jimin is all over it immediately, commanding Namjoon to go find the medicine they have stored in one of their boxes. While Namjoon’s rifling through their belongings, Jimin is wetting a hand towel and wiping the sweat from Jeongguk’s skin. Jeongguk is obviously miserable, mumbling out a soft, “I hate this,” that comes out rough and weak. Talking makes him cough again and the sound of it is brittle like sandpaper.
“Don’t talk,” Namjoon says gently when he’s finally returned with the medicine and water. Jeongguk pouts but he does as he says, shutting his eyes tightly together as they force him to drink the water and medicine.
“We’ll need to bring out the floor mat, hyung,” Jimin murmurs to him, leaning his head on Namjoon’s shoulder as they watch Jeongguk shift in his bed, eyes still pressed tightly together. “I’ll go get it—we can’t both get sick, too.”
Namjoon only nods, sitting beside their bed before reaching up to grab Jeongguk’s hand. Jeongguk is warm, but he squeezes back gently, and Namjoon can’t help his small smile. Jeongguk knows they’re both here for him.
Jimin comes back, letting Namjoon know he’s set up the floor mat in their living room. Namjoon gives Jeongguk’s hand another light squeeze before getting up to meet Jimin.
“You should sleep here, hyung,” Jimin says, yawning as he hugs Namjoon tight. “You have that presentation soon, you can’t get sick, too.”
Namjoon almost wants to argue that Jimin shouldn’t get sick either, that they should both stay away from Jeongguk, but the part of him that’s so helplessly in love that it makes him ignore all logic is overwhelming. So, he just presses a gentle kiss against Jimin’s lips and shoos him off to their bedroom. Jimin is the best cuddler—he’ll make sure Jeongguk is well-loved, always.
💕
Like clockwork, Jimin gets sick just four days later. Luckily, it’s on a Saturday, just after Namjoon’s presentation he held at work, but, unluckily, Namjoon is fucking terrible at taking care of sick people. Why didn’t Jimin consider this more? Why didn’t he consider this? Are they stupid?
Namjoon goes to the store and buys fancy soup, ice and heat packs because he isn’t sure which is necessary, nausea pills even though he’s pretty sure it’s partially for himself out of pure stress, and as much medicine he can gather in his arms.
When he gets back home, he hears Jimin or Jeongguk coughing, he isn’t sure, and he winces at the sound. Their house is still filled with unopened boxes, still only barely set up, and Namjoon seriously has to do his two partners Right or he’ll be ashamed until the day he dies.
Jeongguk comes stumbling out of the room then, hair a complete mess and skin a tad paler than it should be. He’s recovering though, slowly but surely, and he’s definitely in a better state than Jimin, who’s far sicker than Jeongguk ever was.
Immediately, Jeongguk hones in on the soup and medicine in Namjoon’s hands and he lets out a fond smile, and it’s so pretty that Namjoon’s stomach twists at the sight, his worry and affection swirling together.
“Hyung,” Jeongguk says then, voice soft and scratchy. He holds out his hands. “Here, I’ll heat it up for us.”
Namjoon simply stands there, studying him. Jeongguk huffs.
“I’m okay enough to at least do this, hyung, please? I’m going stir-crazy. And I want… I want to be able to help Jimin, too.”
Namjoon lets out a small sigh, but, as always when it comes to Jeon Jeongguk in particular, he gives in, taking a few steps forward to pass the soup to him.
“I grabbed a ton of medicine,” Namjoon dumbly says, and Jeongguk laughs softly.
“I see that, Namjoon-hyung. Thank you.”
Namjoon nods. “I’ll go give it to Jimin…?”
Jeongguk snorts. “You’re so funny, hyung. Yeah, just any cough medicine will help him a lot. Make sure to check his temperature again, too.”
“I, at least, know that .”
Jeongguk laughs again, already trudging into the kitchen to prepare the soup.
When Namjoon opens their bedroom door, it’s to darkness and another harsh cough from Jimin. Namjoon winces again but he makes his way forward, sitting on the end of the bed, resting one of his hands on Jimin’s lower back.
Jimin stirs at the touch, letting out a soft, “Namjoon?”
“Yeah, it’s me. Ready for some more cough medicine?”
“Ugh,” Jimin replies, but he manages to sit up, albeit obviously weakly, and he reaches for his water bottle on the side table.
Namjoon watches him drink down a few big sips and then he’s uncapping the medicine and pouring it for Jimin to drink. When he hands it to Jimin, their hands brush slightly, and Namjoon wants to hug him.
“Thanks, hyung,” Jimin says softly, after taking all the medicine and lying back down. “I love you.”
Fuck it.
Namjoon moves to settle beside him on the bed, wrapping his arms around him and holding him close, and, immediately, Jimin turns so he’s facing Namjoon, tucking his face into his neck as he breathes in slowly.
“You’re going to get sick,” Jimin murmurs.
“Probably.”
“You’re silly, hyung.”
“Yeah,” Namjoon agrees. He closes his eyes, letting himself enjoy the feel of his boyfriend in his arms. He hasn’t gotten to cuddle either of them for days now. “By the way, Jeongguk’s heating up some soup for you two.”
Jimin hums. “That sounds good.”
“Yes,” Namjoon replies simply, heart in his throat.
They lie like that together for another twenty minutes before the door finally opens again to reveal Jeongguk.
“Hyunggg,” Jeongguk scolds slightly when he sees Namjoon in the bed. Namjoon’s already sitting up, helping Jimin sit up while he does.
“It’s not my fault I love you two too much.”
Jeongguk rolls his eyes, but he’s obviously beyond happy he gets to truly touch Namjoon again because he’s already on the bed next to him and pulling him into a tight hug. Namjoon feels his body relax in his arms—he missed this so much.
“Soup’s ready,” Jeongguk comments.
“I figured.” Namjoon slides gently off the bed, bending down to press a tender kiss against Jimin’s forehead. He follows it up by doing the same thing with Jeongguk as he walks by. “I’ll get it. You two just stay here.”
“Okay, hyung.”
The smell of the soup hits Namjoon as soon as he steps out and his own stomach rumbles. He’ll need to heat up some leftovers after this.
He pours the soup into two bowls, grabbing the spoons and napkins as he makes his way back into their room. He almost trips over some boxes on his way there and he’s momentarily thankful his partners are too incapacitated to have seen it. They probably wouldn’t have stopped making fun of him for weeks.
Namjoon watches attentively as they eat their soup, helping Jimin every now and then when it’s clear that Jimin’s body is too tired to hold anything up. Afterwards, Namjoon heats up some leftovers, scrolling his phone as he eats, and then, he unpacks one whole box. It’s a great accomplishment, in his opinion.
Eventually, he makes his way back into their room, smiling at the sight of them completely wrapped up around each other. He’s quick to get in bed right beside them, spooning Jeongguk from behind, his hand coming to rest on Jimin’s waist.
Sleep comes easily.
💕
And, to absolutely nobody’s surprise, Namjoon succumbs to the terrible Refuse To Let You Three Move In Properly virus just three days later.
Jeongguk has fully recovered with Jimin close behind, and Namjoon keeps cracking up as he watches them fret over him, but every time he does, he starts coughing instead, which only makes him laugh harder when he sees the stressed expressions on Jimin and Jeongguk’s faces.
Namjoon doesn’t get sick very often but a part of him is wondering if he should because the way they dote on him is honestly warming Namjoon to his very core. Or maybe that’s the sickness. He isn’t actually sure in his delirium, he’s realizing.
“Namjoon-hyung, please just take your medicine. You can’t keep laughing mysteriously before falling back asleep,” Jeongguk pleads like a voice from The Beyond. Namjoon feels his mouth being poked at by a metal utensil and he groans. The spoon slips in when he does, and Namjoon scrunches his nose at the taste.
“You’re such a baby,” Jimin comments, also from The Beyond. Namjoon feels his hand being squeezed. “You’re never allowed to get sick again, hyung, this is almost too pathetic.”
Namjoon groans again. His head hurts.
“Okay, you did it, hyung, good job,” he hears Jeongguk say, once again from The Beyond. Where the hell even is The Beyond?
“We love you,” Jeongguk says softly.
Namjoon thinks he nods, but he’s already rolling over to fall back asleep.
“Love you, too,” he mumbles against his pillow. He isn’t sure he even said it. Oh well.
💕
Namjoon takes the longest to recover, only feeling better nearly an entire week later, but, thankfully, nobody else falls sick again.
“We made it,” Jimin declares, his exhaustion and relief so patently clear in his tone. Namjoon quirks a grin, looking around at all their opened boxes— finally .
“We made it,” he agrees.
Jeongguk’s already decorating their walls, completely focused as he does, and it only takes them a few more days for them to get most of their belongings where they want them.
And, finally, they get to sleep in their fully made bed, all three of them healthy and able to cuddle to their hearts’ desires.
“Love you both,” Namjoon smiles against Jeongguk’s skin. Jeongguk laughs in reply while Jimin lets out a small, agreeing noise. “In sickness and in health, right?”
Jimin groans. “That was so cheesy, hyung.” He laughs. “Besides, we aren’t even married yet.”
“Yet,” Namjoon simply replies.
Jeongguk’s grip around them both tightens. “Soon, though.”
Namjoon’s heart skips a beat.
“Yeah,” Jimin says then, nuzzling his head against Jeongguk’s head, which is tucked between them. “Soon.”
Grinning, Namjoon just nods. Because it’s a gorgeous day outside, and winter is here in full, and the sun is only slightly peeking through their curtains. Namjoon loves late evenings like these.
Especially with his two boyfriends by his side.
