Chapter Text
He didn't want to move, he liked miyagi but neither his mom nor his dad would let him stay here alone
He was scared Both of his parents had new families, he didn't want to intrude
But he had to
And he could only come back to his house if he got better to the beginning of the school year
If he got better
But living with his parents didn't scare him, neither did the idea of having stepparents
It was the step siblings that terrified him
He knew he had them, on both sides, he was informed while he was still at the hospital
Three stepbrothers in total, one in tokyo and two in hyogo
He wanted to think he would be fine but he doubted it
What if they didn't like him? If they thought he was annoying, he hated it.
He hated that he had to do this but oh well, he'd just try to keep out of their way and maybe it wouldn't be that bad
Or it would be catastrophical and he'd be forced to spend 4 months of his life in literal hell
But it was already too late because he was inside his mother's house in tokyo unpacking his stuff
What he knew so far was that his step brother was a year older, his name was kenji and that most days he got home late because of practice Volleyball practice.
He just hoped he'd be nice and maybe tobio would survive
~~~~~~
So what he thought of his two other step brothers was that they were too much
Akashi was nice, calm, sometimes he was a bit of a menace but tobio liked akashi
Atsumu and osamu tho?
Loud
A bit obnoxious
And really damn good in reading people
He hated it
It was like they knew what he was thinking, what he was going through
And they played volleyball
Really
Really.
Well.
He saw, he had to go to practice with them so that he'd actually get out of the house once in a while
They fought a lot, it was a little funny to see
He initially thought they'd ignore him, maybe do some small talk as to not be completely rude
But no
He was very, veryyy wrong
Because atsumu and osamu(mostly atsumu) talked to him all the time
And they talked a lot
And that talking often turned into arguments
The main issue with them was that their curiousity was over the top
They kept asking questions, wanting to see his reactions and it was mostly fine
Mostly
Sometimes their nagging overwhelmed him the reasons differing depending on the questions
And so one day he got so stressed out due to the amount of questions they asked that he started crying
They panicked and immediately tried to calm him down but their teammate whose name he learned is Kita, told them off and made them go practice while he himself talked to kageyama
Kita's presence was comforting to him
He was calm and collected, kind of like a robot but that's what comforted kageyama so much
He didn't get offended or overly emotional when tobio was accidentally rude to him, he just asked questions, so yeah, kita was nice
And as it turned out the reason he got to watch their practice was because suna(another inarizaki player) stalked him and kept bugging the miyas to bring him
Suna used his phone a lot, mostly to film his stepbrothers' fights
He'd also send them to tobio later so tobio liked him too
Suna also nicknamed him 'lil bro' and every member of the team called him that after they heard it
--------
Osamu made him snacks
Lots of snacks
And they were so good Atsumu kept saying that it wasn't fair and that he too wanted osamu's snacks but osamu said that those were tobio's and tobio did not want to share
So yeah The miyas were annoying him to no end But they weren't that bad
Chapter Text
He knew oikawa didn’t like him, but since he didn’t go to sejioh didn’t think oikawa would bother him anymore
Apparently he was wrong
Very wrong.
Because oikawa-san(the bitch) has a goal above going to nationals and that is making tobio’s life worse.
The best example would be that he’s currently trying to sabotage kageyama’s relationship with his new teammates by forcing him to replace sugawara-san
He felt like screaming
Suga-san was so nice to him, he didn’t hate him or at least he didn’t show it, so to say kageyama felt bad would be an understatement
And that was the reason he wanted to talk to him, apologize.
He just wasn’t sure he wouldn’t start crying
Maybe he should ask kenji what to do. His stepbrother always knew what to do, but that would mean he’d have to talk to sugawara-san tomorrow and by then his senpai might start to dislike him.
It was at times like these, that he hated not knowing how to communicate with people
He didn’t know what to do. Is apologizing really the best choice? What if sugawara-san takes it as an insult? That was a terrifying thought
He zoned back in at the exact moment tanaka-san started yelling about unfairyty of the situation. How kageyama never played a match with them before and that sugawara-san was the starting setter
And then it hit him.
Yes, that is true that kageyama never actually played with them before, but he could adjust to that
What he couldn’t adjust to was that with his hands as messed up as they were, there was no way he’d be able to play all three sets. Not without risking slowing down his recovery
Now he had to talk to sugawara-san AND daichi-san.
Great.
So he decided approach both his senpais after practice.
The team didn’t know about his injury and the teachers only knew the bare minimum. And while he didn’t really have any restrictions when it came to playing volleyball, the doctor was very clear that if he overdid it he wouldn’t be able to play at all.
That and his stepbrothers beat his ass after he tried it once, he was not looking towards it again, thank you very much.
So now he was waiting for the locker room to clear out so that he could talk to his senpais alone.
Yay.
Tsukishima was looking at him weirdly but he ignored it for now.
He approached his senpais after everyone left.
‘Sugawara-san, Daichi-san, can I talk to you?’
‘Sure Kageyama, what’s up?’
‘I’m sorry about the practice match, I don’t know why that happened, I never thought that they’d do something like this. I know you’re the starting setter and after the practice match I promise to earn my place on the team.’
Both capitans looked stunned, seemingly not knowing what to say.
‘I’m, uh, glad Kageyama, that you view me as a rival, I didn’t think you noticed me to be honest. With all that talent and skill you have.’
‘But you’re older than me.’
‘Age doesn’t equal abilities.’
‘But you have more experience and get along with the team better.’
‘Huh, I guess I do.’ He grinned ‘Just hope you know I won’t give up Kageyama-kun.’
‘I won’t either.’
‘I’m glad you figured it out, but this seems like a personal thing between the two of you. Why did you need me here?’
‘Ah… About that…’ He looked down on the ground nervously.
‘Everything alright?’ Daichi-san put a hand on his shoulder.
‘I won’t be able to play for the whole game, at least I don’t think I will.’
‘Why?’ Suga-san asked worriedly.
‘I had an… Uh… Accident, some time ago. It would be very risky for me to play for the whole game as it could really set me back in my recovery.’
‘Oh… In that case we need to tell Takeda-sensei immediately so he can sort this out.’
‘I’m sorry, I don’t want the team to lose this chance because of me.’
‘Don’t sweat it kid, there’s nothing you can do about it, it’s not your fault.’
some things in this whole work won't make sense, but it's fun so why not
Chapter Text
Suga was pissed
No
Pissed was an understatement
He was furious
His kouhai
His baby crow
And one of the three omegas in the club
Was basically bullied by his senpais in junior high
The fucking audacity of oikawa tooru
If he saw him again he would not. Hold himself back.
It started after the practice match
Suga knew there was something wrong, he saw
Even if it had barely been a week he already knew some of kageyama's habits, despite his cold facade he was sensitive, very sensitive
It was visible he tried not to care but suga saw the exact moments where he'd get into his own head
And that happened A LOT
So he made it his personal mission to keep the boy's mind occupied
It was quite easy, he just had to talk to him about volleyball and give occasional advice
His little crow was so attention starved it was saddening how he lit up at the slightest praise
He was sure that with their skill levels being so different the boy didn't really see him as a worthy senpai so he was positively surprised to find out otherwise
It was right before the practice match that he began to really worry
Tobio was acting nervous, picking at his nails, scratching his wrists(he and daichi immediately put a stop to that, knowing about his injury) so suga was worried
He just didn't know what upset tobio so much, except an occasional glare the other team didn't seem hostile
Then came oikawa tooru
The man sugawara swore to hate until the end of the world
The taunting, the subtle threats, the glares, the mean comments
He now understood what kageyama was afraid of
And he'd be damned if he ever let oikawa tooru near his kouhai again
So when after the match ended oikawa approached kageyama, suga was quick to pull the boy behind him
Now oikawa was taller and a bit bigger than him but he was an omega and because of that he knew exactly how careful he needed to be
Because tobio was HIS now and with the amount of condescension oikawa showed towards HIS baby crow he better not think he had any claim on the boy
And after a rather short exchange of words oikawa seemed to realize that
Then they left(if suga noticed how after that kageyama walked so close to him they'd brush against each other he didn't say a word)
In general tobio seemed to almost cling to sugawara after that day and everyone noticed that
Another thing noticed by everyone is how anxious kageyama was when it came to sehoji players
And down fucking right scared of oikawa
Suga didn't know what happened between the bunch but he had a feeling that he wouldn't like it
And he was right
Hinata was sick that day so kageyama asked him to stay after practice so he could learn how to get along with the team better
It quickly became obvious volleyball wasn't the only reason kageyama always stayed so late after practice
And as an older omega he felt it was his duty to make sure the boy was alright
He denied that anything bad was happening
But suga pressed a little
And kageyama broke
So the older found out about everything
His parents' neglect
How he was ostracized by his idol turned tormentor
About the day he almost got slapped (And what the fuck was that about?!)
How he still grieves his grandfather
How the pressure was just too much so he started hurting himself
How karasuno made it better but he was afraid oikawa would try to ruin it
Sugawara didn't know when exactly tobio started crying but he didn't care because he was hugging him from the beginning
He carried the youngest crow back home cause he'd be damned if he let him go alone after what he just heard
--------
Kageyama looked lighter after that, less stressed
SO FUCK THE INTERHIGHS
AND FUCK OIKAWA TOORU ABOVE ALL
He was upset after they lost so he didn't keep track of his crows well enough
And he only realized it after kageyama came back from the bathroom looking like he would start crying any moment now
He didn't need to ask, he guessed what happened
So he couldn't hold himself back, when after they left the gym the sehoji team approched them
That smile
That fucking smile
It was all it took to set him off
Oikawa was about to say something, obviously something mean or even cruel
But sugawara did not wait
And he socked him in the face
Right in his fucking nose
Daichi had to hold him back while he threatened aoba johsai's capitan, cursing him out and daring him to try and upset his baby crow ever again
Kageyama looked stunned, rightfully so
--------
So the spring tournaments were approaching in a rapid rate, their last chance to go to nationals
Also did sugawara mentioned how much he hates oikawa FUCKING tooru?
Because everything was going so SO well
Until oikawa barged in and messed up HIS first year baby crow
The baby of his team
So what happened was that one day when kageyama was walking home he was apparently approached by the older setter who then proceed to put some very toxic shit into HIS baby crow's head
And because of that his baby crow was now stressed at practice and it was ruining the team dynamic
So when he snapped at tanaka AGAIN sugawara had to interviene
He took kageyama outside and spoke to him calmly, because he knew the boy didn't need harsh words right now (HA! 1-0 SHITTYKAWA)
And unsurprisingly the boy cried again
Sugawara heard him out of course and comforted him like he always did when something like this happen
And it happened a lot, because tobio was sensitive and open with his feelings if you knew how to approach him, he had issues with talking about his emotions but that one was easy to overcome(2-0 OIKAWA)
--------
The list if people sugawara hated was growing rather quickly
He had just added two new people to it
Kageyama's parents to be exact
Why you may ask?
Because it's currently 11pm and he's sitting on a bench in a park, holding a sobbing kid in his arms
And why was his baby crow sobbing
Because of those negligent pieces of shit
After a few years they finally decided to come see their son, to meet for the first time and at least give him a feeling if home
AND WHAT DID THEY DO?
FUCKED IT UP
The moment they were both in the home the argument started, few harsh words, okay, we can live with that
Then those words evolved into a screaming match, great, but that wasn't the worst
When the father left slamming the door after himself, kageyama tried to clam his mother down
AND WHAT DID THAT BITCH DO?
RAISED HER HAND AGAINST HIS BABY CROW
And he flinched of course he did, that was a normal reaction, but that wouldn't cause a panic attack this big would it?
WELL TURNS OUT IT WOULD
YOU KNOW WHY?
BECAUSE WHEN !!HIS!! BABY CROW WAS LITTLE, THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS, NOT BEING ABLE TO TAKE THEIR ANGER OUT ON EACH OTHER, TOOK IT OUT ON !!HIS!! TOBIO
Then they took a divorce and tobio never saw them after that
Well until this day apparently
But sugawara be damned if he ever let them be alone with him again(what hurt is that he knew that was simply not possible, no matter what role he played in kageyama's life those people were his parents so his words didn't mean anything against their's... BUT HE'D RATHER DIE TRYING THAN GIVE UP ON HIS BABY CROW)
So yeah
Sugawara hated tobio's parents
With passion
And he was currently debating with himself what to do with the boy
He couldn't stay alone, that much was obvious but would it be better to take the kid with him to sugawara's house? Or go to kageyama's house? (suga was not worried about his own parents, they'd take kageyama in as soon as they saw him.) the issue was where tobio would want to go
Sure, being in a familiar environment might have helped in a normal case, but he just almost got physically assaulted in that same environment, so probably not a good idea
Sugawara's house it is then(he had a feeling tobio wouldn't care as long as he got to cling to the vice capitan)
So that's what he did, got the boy to his house, got him washed up and changed and now his baby crow was laying in his bed sleeping
His parents didn't ask about anything, they trusted him and saw how horrible tobio looked so they waited for him to come and explain
And even from that explanation they didn't need much, just to know who they boy was and that suga did NOT feel safe leaving him alone right now
Tomorrow was the weekend and on monday they were leaving for a training camp so it all worked out, he could keep an eye on kageyama to make sure he is handling the situation well and when he was and least mildly alright he'd decide what to do with himself
(and suga was oddly sure he'd be seeing kageyama out of school a lot more)
--------
Sugawara wasn't even sure if he hated oikawa anymore
If was like he just lost all respect for the guy
Because sugawara couldn't understand it
How could anyone see the amount of trust and admiration being put into them and throw it away
Oikawa became an inspiration for kageyama and for a child already mistreated and neglected oikawa treating him in such cruel ways meant there was something wrong with kageyama
Except there wasn't so kageyama was left trying to "fix" himself which only damaged him further
That's why the king of the court was born
Because if kageyama was expected to be perfect why wasn't anyone else too?
--------
So sugawara was worried, especially because they were supposed to have a training camp with a few schools in miyagi, that including aoba johsai and shiratorizawa, apparently it was to make sure everyone got along or some shit
Suga knew that it wouldn't be pretty so with the team they made the watch kageyama chart
Their youngest did not like it even one bit
Insisting he was not a child that needed to be watched but he always respected sugawara so if the older said so, he complied
Truth to be told, all there was to it was making sure Kageyama didn't have any 1 on 1 encounters with the aoba johsai team
They did not need their youngest to spiral like the last time(fuck you for that one oikawa)
So they should just hope everything goes according to plan.
Then came the setter swap and kageyama got sent to the other side of the gym, to play with shiratorizawa
In theory it shouldn't be that bad as he was in their line of sight but having his kouhai so far from him was making him nervous
That team didn't know tobio, didn't know about his communication issues so the boy would either snap at them with unintentionally rude comments or shut down completely
Both options are shitty but sugawara felt that it would be the second one today
And he was right
Kageyama was nervous to play his best he dissociated from everything else and suga just hoped it wouldn't be a catastrophe
(pov change)
Tendou may act stupid and idiotic but he isn't really a moron
So when the swapped in setter from karasuno started getting a little too nervous he noticed
He knew that the boy was naturally quiet but that was over the top
What was more worrying was that his tosses were perfect and he still felt that they were off? What the hell
Wakatoshi was in his own head right now, probably processing something to do with the young setter and no one seemed to notice or know what was happening with the kid so tendou guessed he has to step in(he had a feeling that the mother crow would not be pleased to see his baby crow in this state)
So after the first set ended he approached the boy
"Ya know that if you mess up one time it won't kill you right?"
"huh?"
"your tosses are perfect as far as I'm concerned, if you mess one up it won't change that. Relax~ I wanna see just how much of a treasure karasuno is hiding~" the kid looked at his as if he had just seen an alien but nodded, well that was fun.
Chapter Text
Kageyama was walking home
His day was quite good, he practiced with hinata a lot today, got a hug for suga-san(he got a hug!!)
And now it was time to go home
Then he saw the kid
He looked to be about 11 years old, brown hair and eyes and he had an uncanny resemblance to someone
Oh
It was kunimi's brother
He didn't really know the kid, just saw him sometimes
He only knew that the boy was in fact 11, his name was
haru, and he was an omega
He wanted to ignore the kid, there was no point in interacting with him
But something seemed off
He was nervously looking around from his spot on the bench as if searching for something
Then he laid his eyes on kageyama and the kid practically bolted in his direction
Haru hugged him tightly
Akira's brother looked terrified
"kageyama can you walk me home please?"
It was a whisper, so he barely heard it. The younger's eyes welled up with tears as he looked up at tobio pleadingly
Normally kageyama wouldn't know what to do in this situation so he would call suga-san and ask him
But this was different
He only needed to lift his gaze a bit to notice it
Two strange older men lurking around the corner and glancing at them
Shit.
Now if kageyama was alone it wouldn't be that bad
Sure those guys were older and they were most likely alphas, but tobio was an athlete, he could outrun them
But not with the kid, because haru would not be able to keep up with him and kageyama was not strong enough to sprint full speed with a child that old in his arms, a toddler? Sure. But not an 11 year old
Calling someone wasn't really an option either
Suga-san wouldn't get there in time and kageyama doubted anyone else would pick up a hint about his situation
So what were his options?
Karasuno was too far and no one would be there, his house was too far plus leading two creeps to his front door wasn't a good idea
Kunimi's house was out for the same reason so where else?
There was one place and if he was lucky it would be full of athletes that could beat these guys up no problem
Aoba johsai it is
Because as much as he dreaded the idea of seeing them again without his team by his side, he will NOT let a child get hurt because he was afraid of meeting his old teammates
"come on, I'll get you home" Well, partially. He'd get him to his brother who would then take him home but it counted, didn't it?
"thank you" haru looked as if he was going to burst into tears any moment and kageyama didn't blame him
He had a similar situation himself, when he was about 13
The difference was that he was right next to his house and his neighbor was sitting right on his front porch, watching everything
Haru didn't have that comfort
He was still a good 25 minute walk from his house and the streets were empty
They began walking
The kid apparently trusted him enough not to question why kageyama was taking him in an almost opposite direction
They walked quickly but not quickly enough to raise suspicion, kageyama also held haru's hand(aoba johsai was close but there was a chance those men would run out of their patience before they got there so kageyama wanted an easy way to pick the kid up if need be)
After a few(very stressful) minutes he saw the school and they basically ran for the gym, haru caught on what kageyama was doing as soon as he was sehoji's fence
He felt relieved when he heard the sounds of balls hitting the court
He looked back and saw the two men lurk around the gates but not cross them, probably worried of being seen
It would be okay now
He took haru to the gym doors
He hated the idea of seeing his old teammates but he'd prefer that to staying outside and potentially making himself the target of the creeps
They walked in
The gym fell silent upon seeing him
He swore he could see oikawa about to say something but then his eyes shifted to the child next to him and the shut his mouth
Kunimi did not have that problem
"haru?" The child bolted into his brother's arms and started sobbing
"Akiraaaa!" haru wailed "it-it was so scary!! Th-those guys were staring and following me a-and I didn't know what to do, but- but then I saw kageyama a-and he helped me get here!!" Haru kept sobbing as kageyama stood there awkwardly
"were they following you?" That was surprisingly iwaizumi-san
"yeah, I saw them lurk around the school gates" at that iwaizumi-san took two of his teammates and walked out of the gym
Meanwhile Kunimi was fussing around his little brother, hugging him and wiping away his tears
"why didn't you call me? I would've come to pick you up"
"m-my phone ran out of battery..." The kid held onto akira tighter "please let's go home"
"okay I'll take you home" he picked his brother up
"Me and iwa-chan will take you guys there, it's best you don't go alone in case those guys are still around" that was oikawa-san. Should tobio go now? He felt like he should(he was a bit farther from his home now and he didn't want to walk back alone but he didn't really have a choice did he?)
"I- uh, I'll be going then, I hope he's alright" he turned to walk out of the gym but he was stopped by a hand on his shoulder
"I'm sorry tobio-chan but there's no way in hell I'm letting you go home on your own after that. You're obviously shaken up and I'm not risking you running into those creeps completely alone" oikawa was firm and his tone left no room for argument, but kageyama being kageyama couldn't just agree. He wanted to deny needing help to get home but he was interrupted before he got a word out
"oikawa's right, you're not going alone tobio, first we'll get akira and haru home and then we'll walk you to yours" iwaizumi backed oikawa up
"but-"
"not buts! We need you to be safe and besides, if refreshing-kun found out we let you go alone he'd have our heads" okay that was a very good argument, tobio couldn't deny that one
So kageyama was now walking with four sekoji boys (kindaichi came too) and a child. Oikawa was talking to haru and kunimi was right next to tobio, well isn't this fun
"why did you help him?"
"huh?"
"haru. Why did you help him? We don't get along, you put yourself in danger and you didn't know if we'd be at the gym. You risked a lot for him. Why?"
"he was scared. And they would hurt him. I couldn't just leave him there, even if you didn't have practice, I could probably run fast enough to get away from them for long enough to figure something out"
"thank you, if you didn't help him... I don't know what would happen to him"
"it's okay, he's fine now so don't think about that"
but it was obvious he would, kageyama does too, he thinks about what would happen to haru if hinata didn't have that dentist appointment that was the only reason tobio didn't stay after practice
Or if kageyama choose a longer path home like he sometimes does
But it's not good to dwell on that
They just arrived at kunimi's house so they said their goodbyes and it was just kageyama and his two senpais (kindaichi opting to stay with his boyfriend)
"you don't have to do this, it's just a short walk now, about 15 minutes, I'll be fine"
"Nonsense tobio-chan, as good senpais we have to make sure you're safe"
"just let us do this kageyama, it's not a big deal and it will put our minds at ease"
"alright" kageyama didn't like the idea of having to spend the next 15 minutes with them but okay(partially because adrenaline was clearing out of his system and he felt that he would cry)
They walked in silence and although it was awkward, kageyama preferred it to having a conversation right now
"that was very brave of you tobio-chan, helping haru I mean, you must have been scared" fuck you oikawa, why do you always talk
"a little" kageyama mumbled, feeling tears welling up in his eyes
"you did good coming to our school, you probably saved his health and maybe his life, we're proud of you" and fuck you too iwaizumi because that one made tobio full on sob
Both older boys looked alarmed as kageyama sunk to his knees and began sobbing
That was so fucking terrifying, he tried to focus on getting haru to safety but he was so fucking scared of what those guys would do to them if his plan work didn't
He could feel oikawa put his arms around tobio and kageyama was just so tired he leaned into the embrace and cried into oikawa's shoulder(what made it worse was that tobio knew that if he himself didn't reach out to anyone that would be that last hug he got today)
"it's okay tobio-chan, you're okay, we've got you now, you're safe" it was the first time oikawa was so gentle with him, hugging him with one arm and stroking his hair with another
"i-it- I was so scared" he just sobbed into the older's arms, he didn't even register being picked up. He only noticed he was being carried after he calmed down a bit
"are you feeling better now kageyama?" Iwaizumi's voice was so gentle
"yeah, you can put me down now oikawa-san" he mumbled into his shoulder(in reality that was the last thing he wanted, he wasn't sure if he'd really be alright if oikawa let him go right now)
"it's okay tobio-chan, let your senpais take care of you"
He didn't say anything to that, just buried his head into oikawa's shoulder. He had a feeling that if he did respond he would cry
The next thing he registered was waking up on his couch and the smell of food in the kitchen
Then oikawa-san came from the kitchen
"come on tobio-chan, iwa-chan made dinner, you like curry?"
"yeah" oikawa pulled him up from the couch and lead him to the kitchen
The next moment he was in the kitchen with both of his used-to-senpais, eating curry
"why are you here?" Damn that was blunt, even from him
"huh? What do you mean tobio-chan?"
"Why wouldn't we be here?"
"you got me home like you said you would, you didn't have to make me dinner and stay here" but that dinner was damn good
"well no one was home and we thought you might be hungry"
He stayed silent after that
--------
He told suga-san what happened the next day and as it was friday, suga-san decided to walk him home and stay with him for a while(and thank god he did because tobio was still a little freaked out)
Suga-san mothered him to no end that day, hugging him, cooking him dinner, helping with homework, all that
It was nice.
Chapter Text
Kunimi felt that something was wrong ever since that wretched match in junior high
The same match when they left kageyama on the court
Then kageyama, their youngest soulmate, disappeared
Kindaichi didn't care much, still holding a grudge
Iwaizumi said it was probably nothing but kunimi knew he only said that to soothe his worries
And he didn't even bother asking oikawa what he thought, he already knew the answer
So the topic was left at that
Until it wasn't, because then the practice match came
Seeing kageyama after such a long time was refreshing, especially with how good he looked now
He was noticably nervous, no doubt due to meeting his soulmates again after such a long time but his eyes were no longer the unstable storm they used to be, no, they were a peaceful night, the one kunimi longed to see there for such a long time
After they lost oikawa and kindaichi were pissed, iwaizumi indifferent and akira... He just couldn't get the younger setter out of his mind
Seeing him was like taking the weight off of his shoulders that he didn't even know he was carrying
But now kunimi was standing in front of him, both of them staring right into each other's eyes
Kunimi didn't know why he started crying, he just knew he did because his vision got blurry
He wasn't sure why he apologized, their fall out was supposed to be kageyama's fault, so why was he the one to say sorry?
But he knew why he was now hugging tobio and sobbing openly into his shoulder with the younger doing the same
They missed each other, didn't they?
He only zoned back in when they were taking their shoes off in tobio's house
And there they talked
And they talked a lot, they talked about everything until the inevitable question came
"Where were you?"
And he still isn't sure if he wanted to know because the quilt that hit him while he was listening to tobio talk was indescribable
They cried again and they hugged again
But they kept talking
Then came a knock on the door
Kageyama didn't seem to know who it was
At the door were two guys, if he has to guess a little older that them, and they were twins
He only realized who they were after he heard them refer to kageyama as 'little brother'
He didn't know kageyama had brothers
He suddenly felt out of place, was he supposed to be here?
He was about to excuse himself when the blond twin dragged both him and tobio to the living room and sat them down
After that talk he didn't speak to either oikawa or iwaizumi, and only occasionally shared a few words with kindaichi
Because what the fuck do you mean kageyama almost got hit by oikawa when they were in their first year of junior high and iwaizumi didn't bother doing anything besides scolding him for it
So if kunimi 'accidentally' spiked a ball straight into oikawa's face with precision that would put kageyama's sets to shame, it wasn't intentional, not at all
Chapter 6
Notes:
I did not feel like editing this so it's probably shitty
Btw sorry for taking so long with updating but my procrastination is shooting through the roof
TWs: Suicide attempt, not too graphic, just mentions of blood
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
His life was over
Everything was too much and too little at the same time, he was overwhelmed and underwhelmed, the only sure thing was that He. Was. Fucked.
All he had, the only thing he had left was gone.
He lost his parents first, they got a divorce after months(or was it years?) of fighting and they left him, miwa and his grandfather at home to presue their careers, tobio rarely saw them after that
Then it was his sister, miwa left as soon as she turned 18, she resented him. He knew that she had to take care of him because of their parents' incompetence and while she wasn't open about it, he noticed the resentment in her eyes
Then it was his soulmate's the people that were supposed to love him no matter what
Oikawa-san hated him, tobio only noticed after he almost got hit
As it turned out iwaizumi-san didn't have to think twice before choosing his childhood bestfriend over a random kid on his team
But losing his grandfather hit him the hardest, watching the man's health decline over the span of mere weeks was heart breaking and although tobio knew what was to come, it didn't hurt him any less
So since then it was him and volleyball
So he trained and trained and trained and trained until his legs gave out, until he couldn't move his hands, until his body was trembling from exhaustion
And from that point on everything he had left began to crumble
His relationship with his team deteriorated as he slowly turned into a tyran king, yelling shouting, ordering them around
They hated him
He knew but he couldn't just stop, not when volleyball was the only thing he was good at, the only thing he had left
And then the last match of their third year came and he lost even volleyball
They benched him after no one hit his toss and after that everything was a blur, he knew he had talked to oikawa-san, if only because the grip on his shoulder got a little too tight, he didn't even realize he got home until he saw the picture of him and his grandfather
His grandfather.
He would've been so disappointed if he saw how tobio was now
It was at this time that panic set in
He had just lost the only thing that kept him grounded, the only connection he had to his grandfather was gone because of his stupidity
He didn't think what he was doing
Before he knew it he was on the floor, knife slipping out of his hand and blood pouring everywhere
His vision got blurry and dark spots started appearing
The last thing he remembered was someone bursting into the kitchen and shaking him as he was losing consciousness, was that semi?
Then everything went black
~~~~~~
Living with someone after such a long time was... Weird to say the least. Especially if that someone was your mom and her new family
He had jut met his step brother and he did not know how to feel
On one side Kenji seemed nice but what if he just acted that way in front of the adults?
As dense as he was, tobio has heard the stories of older step siblings abusing younger ones and he was not thrilled to find out if that was the case here
But maybe kenji would be nice?
--------
Turns out that Kenji is nice
Very nice in fact
He doesn't pressure tobio into talking to him or spending time with him but he's also very involved
He helps kageyama get his work done and talks to him about different topics
Tobio doesn't really have a great comparison but Kenji is an amazing step brother so maybe, just maybe the stay here won't be so bad after all
--------
He met Bokuto-san today and Bokuto-san is…
A lot to say the least
He isn't bad by any means, he's just... loud, and really energetic
But also very clingy and touchy as he's come to find out after being picked up and spun around by the older spiker
Bokuto talked a lot, he talked through the whole evening and Tobio like how he could fill up the room by himself
Notes:
Hope you enjoyed it '3'
