Summary
Setters are the conductors of the volleyball world. They’re calm, collected, confident, and always in control.
However, dedicating your life to such a role comes with the cost of hiding a part of yourself: the part that’s scared, vulnerable, self-conscious, and uncontrollable. When Oikawa Tooru comes face to face with a part of his past that he avoids, the part of him that’s always hidden behind playful jokes and smiles finally comes out to the light. After all, feelings change and everyone has done a lot of growing up.
Maybe Tooru wasn’t the villain he thought he was back in his childhood; just a broken fifteen-year-old, shrouded by jealousy and self-doubt. The person that helps him realize that? The mere kid he thankfully never actually hit.

Yet he lets a small evil chuckle leave his mouth at this “bad idea” of his.He doesn’t know when it popped up in his head, but it’s been plaguing him for the past few days. “What If’s” running around his mind like chickens without heads. Like mouses when the cats come home. Like when the “dumb quartet” hears him coming from a mile away.
He lets the pro’s and con’s argue against each other in his mind, tiring themselves out with the effort to keep up with each other. Neither has won their case just yet, they’ve been going at it for a few days now.And suddenly, just when he’s getting tired, the side of the pro’s come up with an earthshattering argument. Effectively shutting up the con’s.
The grin on his face only widens at that.

Compared to Tobio, who was frustrated and confused, Shoyo clenched his hands together tightly–nervously–feeling his entire body fall weak as he stared at the screen in front of him. It was as if Ushijima could sense Shoyo’s fear, and the fear of every other victor from the 69th Games.
A glint flashes in Ushijima’s eyes–something almost unrecognisable..
