Try Again Little Brother

Summary:

As the last attack from SOMETHING hit him, he tumbled down the stairs, feeling his fragile bones break as gravity led him to a painful end where he definitely wouldn't be found for a while.

However, instead of dying, he found himself in front of a Game Over screen as soft piano music played in the background.

Do you want to retry?

Chapter Text

SUNNY stared at the text, reading it over and over to himself in his head.

Do you want to retry? What did that mean?

He squinted, trying to check if he was seeing wrong. How was he seeing, anyway? He fell down the stairs... He should be dead.

... He should be dead.

He just died.

SUNNY blinks a few times at the revelation. He knew he was probably meant to feel more strongly about the situation, but his head felt too fuzzy for him to form actual emotions.

He looked up at the text once again. Was it like HEADSPACE...?

He reached out to the "Yes" option, but a RED HAND got there before he could. It seemed like it was asking him if this was his choice, so he gave a slight nod.

SUNNY awoke with a start, feeling the comfortable bed underneath him. He looked around the dark room, feeling quite odd. Phantom pains from tumbling down the stairs resounded within his bones.

He gingerly put his hands on his neck. He vaguely remembered his head becoming twisted in a strange manner just moments before he saw the screen with the text. But it was fine now...

Slowly, he stood up, seeing that he seemed... completely fine. He recalled what happened in HEADSPACE whenever OMORI was defeated. Him and his friends would either restart the battle or reappear right back at the last picnic basket they inspected, completely fine.

SUNNY wandered out of his room, feeling the dull ache of hunger in his stomach again. He glanced at the stairs...

Maybe this time, he should trust the voice.

When he encountered SOMETHING IN THE DARK again, he still felt scared, but oddly more at ease too. After he heard the voice once again, he followed its instructions, taking a deep breath to CALM DOWN. A faint plink of a piano note could be heard as he realized... It really isn't that scary, is it?

SOMETHING faded away. He could make his way down the stairs uninterrupted.

After eating a scrumptious, flavorsome, delectable, appetizing, palatable, toothsome, simply wonderfully done steak, SUNNY headed back up to stairs and climbed back into bed.

Notes:

Not much for now. I don't know where I'm gonna take it from here, but I'm taking it somewhere.

Also, I saw somewhere that Sunny was basically emotionally dead during his isolation, so I'm including that. It'll be kind of a bitch to consistently keep it like that, though.

Chapter Text

SUNNY woke up to sunlight streaming through the window. With a small yawn, he got out of bed, (not) ready to face the world.

He initially intended to go downstairs and answer the insistent knocking on his door, but something drew him to his mother's room.

He glanced at the picnic basket, then opened it. Inside was a small star of light, beckoning him forward, whispering words to him...

Would you like to SAVE?

SUNNY stared at the star. Why was there a star inside the picnic basket?
He once again assumed it was the same as HEADSPACE. If he died, he'd reappear in his mom's room...
Would he die? Likely not. But he decided to SAVE anyway.

After SAVING, SUNNY went downstairs to the knocking. It was getting rather annoying. For a moment, he considered ignoring it entirely and going back to bed... but the voice outside was too familiar to ignore

He slowly opened the door, and he was met with the sight of his friend KEL, now grown up.

KEL seemed surprised to see him. He talked a bit before inviting SUNNY to HOBBEEZ. No other choice, SUNNY thought as he stepped out of the safe (or maybe not safe, he wasn't so sure after his death last night) space of his home.

The sun was shining in his eyes... Way too bright for his liking. There was a picnic basket next to the door. It also contained the star of light.

SUNNY looked back at KEL, who was looking back at him curiously and cluelessly. Looked like he didn't see the star...

The whisper came again. SUNNY thought 'yes,' not wanting to say it aloud and arouse suspicion. He felt warm inside. Perhaps it was a sign that SUNNY had successfully SAVED.

SUNNY stepped out of his driveway, KEL following him. He glanced at KEL's house, spotting a stout, tan-furred dog. HECTOR was the name that came to mind when seeing it.

SUNNY tried to approach the dog, but KEL quickly pulled him back and told him it wasn't the best time for a visit to his home. He wasn't trying to go to KEL's house, though... He just wanted to pet HECTOR...

Oh well, forgive and forget. SUNNY walked down the sidewalk, on a quest to go to HOBBEEZ. He tried to go onto the road, but KEL once again stopped him. Ugh...

SUNNY eventually reached HOBBEEZ after a brief re-tour of the town. It was somewhat fun wandering around with KEL, but he still wanted to go back to sleep.

KEL said something about a gift for HERO. He wanted to buy a cookbook, but he didn't have the money. But luckily, SUNNY did. It wasn't like he needed that money to dream...

After paying for the cookbook, they left HOBBEEZ. SUNNY intended to go back home, but then they heard commotion from FARAWAY PARK. KEL insisted they investigate, so investigate they did. They found BASIL being seemingly bullied by KIM. A few things happened, then a pink haired girl came over, wielding a NAIL BAT.

SUNNY couldn't help but be mildly shocked when he realized that this was AUBREY. AUBREY didn't have pink hair, or blue eyes! And why did she have a NAIL BAT?

Lost in thought, SUNNY failed to notice the start of a battle. When he finally felt KEL's expectant gaze on him, waiting for instruction, he told KEL to GUARD. He didn't want to hurt AUBREY...

The STEAK KNIFE in his pocket felt heavy as he blocked yet another attack from AUBREY. Something told him that he had to use it if he wanted to put an end to this... But he didn't.

However, it seemed that not listening had consistently led him to a bad end.

AUBREY, frustrated with the two's refusal to fight back, swung her NAIL BAT at SUNNY's head, only intending to frighten him.

But the BAT hit its mark, and a sickening crack could be heard as SUNNY's skull broke open from the impact. He fell to the ground.

The last things SUNNY registered before he found himself at the GAME OVER screen once again were panicked yells and screams as blood trickled out of his head.

Soft piano music played again. Familiar words were shown. SUNNY just stared, unable to quite process what had just happened.

AUBREY... AUBREY just killed him. He hadn't expected that...

But it was an accident. SUNNY could let it slide. Even if it made its mark in his mind as a sign of AUBREY being dangerous.

Shakily, he reached out to the 'YES' option, and just like before, a RED HAND tapped the choice for him.

SUNNY opened his eyes to the same scene as before AUBREY staring at him and KEL angrily, KEL with his BASKETBALL in hand, ready to defend or fight. The STEAK KNIFE in his pocket, ready to be used.

This time, SUNNY knew he couldn't just be pacifistic. He reached into his pocket. AUBREY threw a punch at him. He slashed her in the arm.

Immediately, he realized that this, too, was a bad choice. Blood stained the grass as AUBREY and her gang retreated, intimidated by SUNNY's knife.

KEL scolded him for carrying around a knife, but he couldn't do anything but stare at the bloodstain on the ground. AUBREY's blood, spilled because of him.

Something inside him, something ugly, said that she deserved it for quite literally killing him. But SUNNY pushed that thought away. He could come back... AUBREY probably couldn't.

KEL reached out to take away the knife, but before he could take it from SUNNY, it was lodged in the noirette boy's guts.

This time, SUNNY awoke back in his mom's room. After all, he wasn't in battle when he died this time.
He did the same things as before, then he reached the fight with AUBREY.

He only had KEL attack, and he GUARDED the whole time. A BASKETBALL couldn't spill blood, could it?

SUNNY was proved wrong when an awry shot hit AUBREY directly in the nose, causing her to yell out in pain as blood started spilling from her nose. SUNNY definitely heard the crack of her nose breaking.

Once again, a blade pierced his insides.

SUNNY was very, very careful this time. He made sure KEL didn't throw his BASKETBALL with too much force.

He finally managed to finish the fight without spilling blood. The HOOLIGANS retreated at the mere sight of SUNNY's knife, and him and KEL were left to talk with BASIL.

It all seemed to blur together as SUNNY realized that he had just killed himself twice just for the sake of not having AUBREY get her blood spilled.

Suddenly, a phantom pain hit him hard in the gut. He keeled over. KEL and BASIL immediately rushed to his side, worried and asking if he was okay. He felt like he wanted to throw up, but there was nothing in his stomach to regurgitate.

SUNNY held his stomach, feeling the burning sensation of his knife tearing through his internal organs. The only way he could make it stop was...

He reached for his pocket, but KEL had already taken his knife. He looked around, but the only things he could see were KEL and BASIL's faces.

Then, he remembered the voice from last night...

Take a deep breath... Don't be afraid. It's not as scary as you think.

SUNNY started to steady his breathing. He took a deep breath and CALMED DOWN. After a moment taken for mental recovery, he stood up again, his usual blank expression returning to his face. KEL and BASIL looked worried, but they seemingly took the hint that he was alright now and decided not to bring it up.

Either that or SUNNY was blocking out their worried questioning. It was definitely plausible.

A few more fights happened. None of them really interested SUNNY. After finding out that AUBREY had stolen BASIL's PHOTO ALBUM, KEL had insisted on getting it back for him. Eventually, the two found themselves at the church. While KEL was hesitant to interrupt, SUNNY strolled in without a care. He just wanted to go home already...

Inside, they ended up in another fight with AUBREY. SUNNY could hear the murmurs of the other churchgoers, and he definitely didn't like what he was hearing. Neither did he feel comfortable fighting AUBREY barehanded.

A phantom pain throbbed in the side of his head. He tried his best to block it out in favor of focusing on the fight. Then, he realized the fight was over. They defeated AUBREY. She ran off... in tears.

SUNNY and KEL brushed themselves off and left the sermon behind. As KEL sulked over the mean words of the churchgoers and being unable to retrieve the PHOTO ALBUM, they spotted AUBREY trashing the exact item they were searching for. KEL got the PHOTO ALBUM from the garbage and they returned it to BASIL.

Inside BASIL'S HOUSE, they looked through the PHOTO ALBUM. It was nice, going back through their memories. After KEL went to help POLLY with dinner, SUNNY was free to wander. found another picnic basket. He opened it and SAVED.

When he turned back to BASIL, he found that BASIL was watching him intently. He walked circles around the blond, finding that he wouldn't take his eyes off him. SUNNY blinked. That was... odd.

He decided that if BASIL was gonna be weird, he could be weird. He went to the corridor, looking through the rooms until entering BASIL'S GRANDMA's room. He stared at the white egret orchid, recalling its meaning, before BASIL came in.

He monologued for a bit before telling SUNNY that it was nice to see him, even if just for a bit, and giving him his PHOTO ALBUM.

Dinner was quite awkward. SUNNY found that BASIL didn't know he was moving, which led him to wonder why he'd said that their meeting would only be temporary if he didn't know. Did he think SUNNY was going to go back into hiding? Or maybe...

No.

BASIL rushed to the bathroom after dinner. SUNNY followed him to investigate. In the bathroom, SUNNY had another encounter with SOMETHING... But he couldn't calm down. He ran out of the room while BASIL cried for him to not leave.

KEL questioned what was going on with BASIL before passing it off as a stomachache. The two left the blond boy's home after realizing how late at night it was.

At SUNNY's home, KEL bade him farewell with a promise to come back the next day. SUNNY wasn't so sure he wanted to come out again.

Just before reentering the questionable safety of his home, SUNNY decided to SAVE. It couldn't hurt, right...?

Inside, SUNNY found his home overrun by spiders.

Panic started to overtake him as he wandered through the swarm of spiders, and he squirmed every time he accidentally stepped on a spider. Why... Why spiders...

When SUNNY started to climb the stairs, a large spider leg hit him, causing him to lurch back and cower away. He shut his eyes tightly, wishing this would all be over already...

Suddenly, warmth washed over his insides, and cold night air started to prick his skin. He opened his eyes and found him back at his last SAVE.

... So he could just focus to go back? He stabbed himself twice for nothing??

SUNNY sighed. It's not like he could undo the phantom pains.

He reentered his home, shuddering at the sight of the spiders still covering almost every corner.

This time, he was just a little less scared when the leg hit him. Less scared enough for him not to accidentally send himself back to his last SAVE again.

But as it turned out, he'd be hit more than once, and he'd always cower away. He silently cursed the whole existence of spiders.

At the top of the staircase, someone awaited him. And that someone turned into SOMETHING, staring at him...

An eight-legged horror on the walls stared at SUNNY with a large grin. He felt fear take over his senses. But this time, he knew what to do.

SUNNY took a deep breath, steadying himself. But it didn't disappear. He tried to attack it, but he wasn't sure he was doing anything. Then, he heard the voice again, and he remembered how to FOCUS.

It wasn't too different from CALMING DOWN, but also quite different at the same time.

The spider abomination disappeared, as did every other spider except one.

SUNNY stared at it for a moment before he took off his shoe and threw it at the spider. He left the shoe there, not feeling in the mood to see a spider corpse right now.

He climbed into his bed and looked around his room before closing his eyes and drifting back into the dream world.

Chapter Text

Surprisingly enough, SUNNY found himself leaving the house again. Perhaps KEL had learned how to CHARM...

He SAVED at the picnic basket outside, then he proceeded down the street, observing the noon sky.

He came to a stop when KEL exclaimed about chalk on his driveway. SUNNY read the message...

... KEL didn't smell.

Well, he definitely did, but it was somewhat a nice smell??

Determined to correct the mistake, SUNNY rushed back into his house, ignoring KEL's confused protests, and looked around. In a random drawer, he found more chalk.

He went to the kitchen and filled a glass with water, then he went back to KEL, who was waiting for him at his driveway.

SUNNY spilled the water on the 'Smells' part of the chalk. Then, he took his own chalk, and he rectified the mistake.

Now, it was 'Kel Rocks'. Much better. KEL stared at SUNNY, heart warmed, before he threw himself on the shorter boy in a rib-breaking hug while exclaiming thank yous. It was almost as if he hadn't experienced this sort of care for years...

SUNNY gently patted KEL's back while struggling to breath. KEL eventually pulled away with a big grin. He patted SUNNY on the back before letting the raven haired boy take the lead again.

The two went to OTHERMART to complete KEL's errands. On the way, SUNNY stopped by the meat store to get some fish. He'd seen hungry stray cats wandering about the town before, and he just wasn't cold enough to not spare them some sympathy.

When they went to GINO'S, they noticed AUBREY's gang talking about some secret hangout spot over pizza. SUNNY didn't really care enough to wonder what they meant.

With the fish he bought, it was now time to attempt to befriend a cat.

As SUNNY searched the town for a cat, KEL and him encountered BASIL in the park. Naturally, they went up to him to see what he had to say.
Nothing interesting, honestly. SUNNY didn't mull over it for too long.

Finally, he found a cat that was willing to be fed! It was on his house's (soon to be someone else's) rooftop, though. He SAVED just in case.

KEL gave him a worried warning as SUNNY started to climb up, but he mostly ignored it. After all, he could literally come back from the dead.

...

Success!

SUNNY reached the cat and fed it.
It gave him trash in return...?

While trying to get down with the trash in hand, SUNNY slipped up and fell off the roof, hearing a loud crack as he fell on his arm.

Burning pain shot through SUNNY's arm. He quietly whimpered as KEL ran up to him, eyes wide with worry and shock.

He felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes as KEL panicked over him. He wasn't dying, but he was suffering from the pain of his broken arm.

KEL lifted him up into his arms, running to the hospital. Meanwhile, SUNNY shut his eyes tight, trying to focus but failing due to his focus breaking every time KEL accidentally moved his arm a bit.

Finally, KEL stopped running when he got into the hospital, hurriedly explaining the situation to the receptionist. SUNNY was able to focus, and the pain faded as he went back to his last SAVE.

He looked behind himself at KEL for a moment. KEL was looking at him with worry, asking him if he was really planning to climb onto the roof.

... This time he would play it safe.

SUNNY held up the fish to the cat, hoping to lure it down. Thankfully, it jumped down into his arms and happily ate the fish. Once again, SUNNY was rewarded with a trash bag.

Satisfied, SUNNY went next door with KEL to visit his house. Before they went in, KEL warned SUNNY about how his mother might be a bit mad, so SUNNY stepped in front of KEL.

It appeared KEL was mostly correct, as his mother did forget to yell at him after seeing SUNNY. Her fussing touches caused dull phantom pains to make themselves known in his arm. SUNNY ignored them. And so, KEL successfully escaped a scolding from his mother.

SUNNY listened to the music on KEL's boombox with mild interest until KEL suddenly brought up his baby sister. He was absolutely shooketh at the thought of KEL being an older brother. He still remembered when KEL seemed so short and little and dumb... That boy being an older brother? Unimaginable!

But then he was brought back to the present where he remembered the now more mature KEL. With this version... It wasn't so unbelievable. SUNNY gave KEL a thumbs up.

The two were interrupted when KEL'S MOM called out, saying there was a girl here to see them. At the door, they found POLLY, searching for BASIL. Of course, KEL was immediately on the case, so they rushed out of the house, going to the park.

When they got there, they heard BASIL crying out from somewhere. KEL realized it was coming from their old hangout spot. SUNNY quickly stopped to SAVE before they rushed into the trees, finding BASIL and the HOOLIGANS there.

SUNNY balled his hands into fists, sensing a fight coming as the HOOLIGANS and KEL went back and forth. A chill went through him as AUBREY stepped forth, but he stood his ground.

The fight started. KEL threw his BASKETBALL at the group, and SUNNY threw a punch or two. AUBREY stepped forward, swinging her NAIL BAT at KEL. He stumbled back, but SUNNY used a BANDAGE to get him back up and ready for more. While SUNNY was distracted with healing KEL, KIM headbutted him, and he fell to the ground.

He then noticed MIKHAEL winking at him, and he felt... oddly flustered? Once again, he was distracted, and ANGEL took the chance to swiftly strike him.

KEL got between SUNNY and the HOOLIGANS, throwing his basketball directly at VANCE since he noticed that he was about to throw old candy at them.

SUNNY got back up again, weakly punching KIM who headbutted him again. SUNNY took a brief moment to wonder how KIM never missed her headbutts, causing him to fail to notice the NAIL BAT coming right at him. It hit him straight in the gut, and for the first time in a while, he actually used his voice, letting out a strangled cry of pain.

Phantom pains hit him like a truck, combined with the pain of the blunt trauma from AUBREY'S NAIL BAT. He held his stomach tightly, unable to get up from the overwhelming burning feeling paired with the dull but hard throbbing.

KEL dropped the fight in favor of worrying over SUNNY, but he was unable to do anything to help. The HOOLIGANS paused as they watched SUNNY whimper and hold himself tightly. AUBREY seemed a bit guilty, probably thinking that it was all her fault.

SUNNY could barely register KEL's words, trying his best to draw attention away from him, but then the burning came back, and he couldn't do anything but quietly sob.

The HOOLIGANS were now worried as well, ANGEL crouched down next to SUNNY, poking his head and questioning him. MIKHAEL pushed ANGEL away, telling him he could handle this, and questioned SUNNY much more dramatically, as if that would actually work.

The fight was now completely dropped as SUNNY writhed on the ground. He asked himself why, why the pain wouldn't go away. He mentally pleaded for it to just stop. He couldn't CALM DOWN, he couldn't do anything...

... The pain slowly faded away. SUNNY thanked whatever god was out there for the end of his suffering. SUNNY slowly opened his eyes, realizing his cheeks were wet with tears and that everyone was staring at him with a worried look. Even BASIL had come over.

Embarrassment washed over him as he realized what a scene he must have caused.

He stood up, taking a deep breath to CALM DOWN before FOCUSING to go back.

The next time, he made sure to GUARD more, now knowing that getting hit in a place where he'd previously been injured would stir up his phantom pains. ANGEL got him in the arm once or twice, but he was fine otherwise.

When the fight was over, the HOOLIGANS retreated, except for AUBREY. She slowly turned red, then she let out a furious scream, falling to her knees. SUNNY watched as she yelled about things he didn't care to process. But then, AUBREY pushed BASIL into the lake. KEL got angry and started yelling at her, telling SUNNY to go save BASIL. SUNNY looked around for a moment, slightly panicked.

Even the thought of putting a toe in that lake made him shake. But he had to save BASIL... He tried to run out of the hangout spot to SAVE, but KEL stopped him, saying that he had to save BASIL. And so, with no other choice, SUNNY held his nose and took a plunge into the freezing cold water.

Keeping his eyes open hurt. He desperately wanted to take a breath, but he knew there would be no oxygen intake, but he'd instead get a mouthful (or noseful) of water. He kicked his legs uselessly, trying to remember how to swim to get to BASIL, but he was quickly getting nowhere.

Panic started to take over all his senses, screaming at him that he was going to drown. He needed to go back up. A tangled, hair like monster came into view, trying to bring him down further into the seemingly endless depths.

SUNNY looked down and saw a blond haired figure hopelessly drifting lower, drowning. The monster wrapped a tendril around his leg, trying to keep him from saving his friend. Then, he realized... This was just like the others. Even if it looks a bit different, it could still be defeated.

He (mentally) took a few breaths, CALMING DOWN and FOCUSING. Then, he remembered how to PERSIST. After doing so, the monster disappeared.

He kicked his legs, trying to get down to BASIL. Suddenly, he realized just how much he needed to take a breath. Instinctively, he released his nose and opened his mouth to take a breath in, but the only thing that came in was lake water. The breath he'd been holding in came out in a bubble, floating up to the now extremely distant seeming surface.

SUNNY desperately thrashed around. All thoughts of saving BASIL had slipped his mind, and they were all replaced by his instincts screaming at him to get out of the lake, get to safety, survive. Water flooded his nose and filled his lungs. He could see a familiar figure coming down to save him and BASIL, but before he could feel their grip, he lost consciousness.

When HERO pulled him to the surface with BASIL, him, KEL, and AUBREY found that neither would awaken.

Once again, SUNNY found himself standing at the dock. He stared into the water, and he found that his fear of deep water had only intensified. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't go in. Not even to save BASIL.

KEL watched him shake in his boots, encouraging him the best he could, but being unable to do anything.

SUNNY looked around, panicked. BASIL was going to drown because he was a coward. And who knows how long the loop would repeat? Would he give up and let BASIL die? No, that just couldn't happen.

Suddenly, HERO came running. He didn't ask questions. He just dived into the lake. SUNNY watched with wide eyes as HERO came back out, BASIL in his arms.

KEL questioned how he knew BASIL was in there without even asking. HERO responded that he just felt like he needed to save someone.

When they left the secret hangout spot, SUNNY quickly SAVED. HERO gave SUNNY a look, for some reason.
They dropped BASIL off at his home and left, exploring the town together. SUNNY decided to search for a cat again.

This time, he found it on a tree. Despite having literally broken an arm before, SUNNY decided it would be a good idea to go up the tree instead of luring the cat down. It would be good practice to banish his acrophobia even deeper into the back of his mind. KEL and HERO both gave him concerned looks as he started to climb.

As expected, once again, he fell. He couldn't help but think about how idiotic he was as HERO fussed over his arm. It was the same arm as last time too...

SUNNY FOCUSED and went back to before. Strangely enough, HERO started fussing over him when he went back before looking around, confused. KEL looked at him weirdly, as did SUNNY. He passed it off as a random worry. SUNNY started to suspect that he could remember LOADS, but he seriously doubted it.

Eventually, they went back to KEL and HERO's house to convince their mom to let them sleep over at SUNNY's. She got upset, so they went to get flowers for her. After giving the flowers, SUNNY went to SALLY, staring at her blankly. She made grabby hands towards him, but he didn't trust himself enough to pick her up, so they left the house.

SUNNY stared up at the moon. It was a nice moon tonight. HERO suggested they go to SUNNY's house now, but he had one more thing to do first.

They went to the secret hangout spot. SUNNY slipped off his shoes and socks. He glanced at KEL and HERO, silently telling them to look away. They understood, turning away. SUNNY took off the rest of his clothes.

The night was nice and cool, but warm too. He sat down at the dock. He heard the brothers leave to give him some privacy. He knew the lake would be cold and it wasn't wise to go in with so little on, but he'd prefer getting cold over having soggy clothes.

As he dipped into the water, he saw the monster's tendrils coming for him again, but he willed it away, knowing that it was only a figment of his imagination.

The water was nice. SUNNY sighed a bit, sinking deeper. He tried his best to keep his hair dry, though.

He heard HERO behind him, giving him a gentle reminder to be careful. He turned, a bit embarrassed, but thankfully, HERO had his eyes covered.

After a while, SUNNY got out of the water, pondering why HERO had warned him to be careful. He was fine! He could swim!

They went back to SUNNY's house, KEL holding onto SUNNY to keep his wet body warm. At his house, SUNNY immediately dried off and got into bed after a little talk with KEL and HERO.

And so, he drifted off into his dream world.

Chapter 4: piano

Notes:

Has dialogue

Chapter Text

SUNNY awoke with a start after the shitshow called BLACK SPACE. He looked around, noticing that HERO wasn't in bed.

He left the room, wandering around in the dark. Then, he found himself going into the piano room. Inside, he found... MARI? It was the same MARI from the start of his dream this night.

She played the piano while monologuing. SUNNY hung onto her every word.

Eventually, she brought up an interesting topic...

"You didn't ask for this, did you? All these deaths... I'm sorry, little brother. It's all my fault that you have to suffer so much."

SUNNY stared at MARI wide-eyed. She'd given him this power...?

She continued on with other things, leaving SUNNY to ponder her words. Just then, HERO entered, and she disappeared. Was she a hallucination?

HERO talked for a bit before saying something that caught SUNNY's attention.

"I keep seeing you get injured in my mind, but then I find out it never happened... Why? What's going on? Am I going crazy...?"

So his theory was right, SUNNY noted. He reassured HERO with a short gesture, but he didn't do anything to explain.

After that, HERO requested some privacy. SUNNY left, but came back after a second to see what was happening. HERO quietly weeped over the piano. SUNNY felt bad for him.

SUNNY went back to sleep shortly after.

Chapter Text

In the morning, SUNNY awoke to the smell of food coming from downstairs. He went down and found KEL devouring some breakfast while HERO cooked food. He could almost turn up his nose at the thought of eating. Food was for the weak! He only needed sleep.

Their breakfast was shortly interrupted when KIM showed up at their doorstep. She promptly got her face covered in chewed food and KEL's saliva.

After hearing that AUBREY wasn't leaving her house, SUNNY became a bit worried. KEL and HERO too, but they expressed it much more. They stopped by AUBREY's house. SUNNY already knew what would be inside, so he braced himself for the shitshow.

... This was way worse than he expected.

AUBREY had definitely told him about how her home was like, but he'd honestly thought she was overexaggerating it just a tad bit. Now he felt like an asshole, seeing just how shitty the mess was.

It seemingly left KEL and HERO speechless too. A silent agreement fell upon them to just not bring it up.

They went up to AUBREY's room, where they had a short heartfelt conversation and put the photos with MARI back in the album. SUNNY felt a bit happier as he looked at that one photo of him hugging MARI, but then he felt as if something was watching him.

SOMETHING behind him...
He didn't bother to look, not wanting to ruin his good mood.

After, they ditched AUBREY's dump of a house to hang out. SUNNY decided the secret hangout spot would be best for a hang out. Because it was a hangout spot.

SUNNY sat at the dock, idly swinging his feet as his friends sat at the picnic basket. HERO occasionally glanced at SUNNY with worry.

He took the time to think over the words from last night. MARI gave him the power apparently, and HERO remembered his LOADs. A random thought appeared in SUNNY's mind. If he ever decided to use this power to kill people, then HERO would most likely remember he genocides.

... He felt as though he'd accidentally made a very stupid reference, but he probably didn't.

Even so, he couldn't be sure. For all he knew, MARI could've been a hallucination, heck, the whole SAVE/LOAD thing could just be a big group hallucination. He didn't know why, but he really hoped it wasn't.

KEL called out, stating that time had passed very quickly and they should get going to the old treehouse now.

SUNNY wasn't buying it. It was probably an excuse for the creator having too much laziness to write more of ONE DAY LEFT.

... He promptly forgot his rebuttal to KEL's statement, simply nodding and going along with it.

SUNNY SAVED outside his house before going in.

When they entered SUNNY's backyard, SUNNY stared at the stump for a moment. It seemed to be bringing back bad memories for the others, but he just couldn't recall why he should be upsetted by this stump.

They walked past it and went to the old treehouse, recalling the memories that came with it. SUNNY saw KEL step on a jack and became worried. He quickly checked on him, and upon finding that he was mostly alright, he started wandering around.

He then found a photo and a key behind it.

Something about that key made him feel sick. He put it in his pocket anyway.

The others spotted the photo, and they put it back in the photo album. SUNNY felt a sense of completion when seeing the full album.

The bad feeling came again. There was SOMETHING behind him. SOMETHING hugging him. SOMETHING absorbing him.

He snapped out of it when AUBREY bolted out of the treehouse. He put away the photo album and followed the others out.

He saw AUBREY at the stump, putting her pinwheel in it. She vented her feelings to them and gave the reason why she'd been bullying BASIL.

SUNNY stepped back. He already had a feeling in his stomach, but now, he was going to throw up.

BASIL had gone through so much because of him. He'd been bullied for years, he even died... And SUNNY couldn't help but feel like there was another thing he wasn't remembering.

AUBREY began crying. SUNNY stepped away. He could feel bile rising in his throat. But then, he was pulled into a group hug, and he had to hold back.

The moment he was free, he bolted into his house. But he couldn't climb the stairs quickly enough, falling to his knees and...

... nothing came out but some saliva. SUNNY recalled his statement about food being for the weak. This only proved it further to him.

The others called out to him from the bottom of the staircase, worried. He gave them a thumbs up, standing up and going over to them.

They then proceeded to BASIL's house. They took turns talking to a door that BASIL wouldn't open. A slight sense of paranoia filled SUNNY. What if BASIL remembered his death and was breaking down about it? All because SUNNY couldn't save him...

Then, he remembered how his grandmother had looked when he saw her. A more reasonable reason for BASIL's sadness came. What if his grandmother had passed?

When SUNNY was free to take his turn, he gave two simple knocks as silent comfort. It probably wouldn't do anything, but he couldn't just do nothing.

They sat at the couch until Polly came with the quilts, then they got ready to sleep. They exchanged some warm words before drifting off.

SUNNY felt an odd determination burning within, but it didn't affect his ability to go to sleep.

He awoke in a vast achromatic expanse.

Chapter Text

Shaky hands flipped through pages of a photo album. He observed the photos carefully, his eyes hurting from not blinking, yet he couldn't look away. Not with the topic at hand.
He reached the last photo. A single eye met his own, staring as if to say 'It's your fault'.

SOMETHING came from the shadow of her hair. He dropped the photo album. Just as he was about to scream, he shot up, sitting in a makeshift quilt bed and covered in a cold sweat.

He didn't take anytime to process the truth he'd just rediscovered. He shot out of his bed and went to throw up.

... Just dry heaving with some saliva and a strange liquid that burnt his throat. He didn't know what it was.

He got up and stumbled out of the bathroom. The truth settled in the back of his mind like an ugly monster slowly eating away at his sanity.
He went to BASIL's room. BASIL had been there. BASIL had helped. He must've been so miserable. So, he had to save BASIL.

He didn't bother knocking. BASIL turned to look at him.

He talked about various things, but SUNNY couldn't register them in his mind. He started to cry. SUNNY couldn't blame him. Then, he started to approach with his shears and SOMETHING spread out all around him, trapping him in its jaws. SUNNY tried to escape, but SOMETHING blocked his way and pushed him into BASIL.

Fear wracked his mind. He tried to CALM DOWN, but his lungs fought to breath. He tried to FOCUS, but nausea overwhelmed him. He tried to PERSIST, but he couldn't hold steady. Nothing worked.

BASIL asked SUNNY if he hated him. He wanted to tell him no, but his throat closed up.

BASIL asked SUNNY to stop struggling. He continued to throw worthless kicks and punches anyway.

BASIL pleaded with SUNNY. He couldn't listen properly.

Fear turned to stress.

SUNNY wanted to run.

He needed to run.

He was going to die.

He was going to...

... A sharp pain pierced his eye.

What happened?

His stress stopped him from processing the pain. Adrenaline kicked in for once in his life, and he got back at BASIL, throwing a harsh punch at his eye.

BASIL was taken off guard. He fell back with a yelp. SUNNY kicked him in the stomach.

BASIL started to cry again. SUNNY immediately felt guilt, but the pain in his eye was more pressing to him.

He stumbled out of the room. He had to undo this. And when he couldn't CALM DOWN or FOCUS, there was obviously one clear solution.

SUNNY lifted the blankets away from KEL's slumbering body. He searched his pockets. Nothing. That was fine.
He stepped out of the house, shambling to KEL's house. He was there before he knew it. The adrenaline was wearing off now.

SUNNY entered the house and climbed the stairs, a very long process. He went to KEL's room.

He found what he wanted right where he thought it would be. He drove the blade right where it was practically home at by now—in his guts.

SUNNY awoke. He decided to get his knife first before confronting BASIL. That way, he'd have an easy way out. SUNNY then got back and SAVED.

However, he chose the worst possible time to SAVE.

When he entered BASIL's room, he found BASIL driving his shears into his own stomach. BASIL looked at SUNNY one last time before slumping against the wall.

... He was too late.

He LOADed his SAVE. The moment he opened his eyes back out in the living room, he dashed for BASIL's room.

Too late.

Again and again, he tried. When he finally gave up, he crumpled to the floor, staring at BASIL's body.
SUNNY took out the knife in his pocket. This was the item he took his damned time to get, the item that caused him to SAVE over BASIL's death.

For the first time since coming out again, SUNNY found that there was no undoing this.

He drove the knife into the floor, furious at himself. Then, he started to sob.

POLLY heard the noise. She screamed, leading the others to wake too.

Now, everyone was standing in the corridor, either sobbing or hopeless. SUNNY was the only one sitting, just kneeling at BASIL's body. KEL tried to drag him away, but he couldn't muster any strength when he was sobbing.

SUNNY took one last glance at his knife. He took it from the floor and started to stab his own thighs repeatedly and mercilessly.

HERO was the first to react, restraining SUNNY. He didn't have any strength left to pull away.

His thighs burned. His head hurt. His stomach burned. He felt heavy, as if full of water. His back ached.

He looked to the floor with teary eyes as HERO went to call 911. He couldn't even care.

As HERO was explaining the situation, SUNNY took his knife, rose it one last time, and put it right where it belonged.

When SUNNY found himself standing in front of the picnic basket again, his legs immediately gave out under him, and he was back to kneeling.

HERO snapped awake with a yell, but he looked around and realized he was in bed. He saw SUNNY sitting hopelessly, and he quickly approached him.

"That was a dream, right? Please say yes, SUNNY. Please just tell me... you didn't just... BASIL isn't..."

SUNNY weakly shook his head. HERO stopped. He stood up and went to BASIL's room, presumably finding the same sight judging by his (emotionally) pained scream.

Once again, SUNNY took his knife. Maybe... Just maybe. He could do something. He could stall.

After LOADing his SAVE, the first thing he did was yell BASIL's name as loud as he could, despite how much it would hurt.

No response came. SUNNY dragged himself over to BASIL's room, silently pleading for a different outcome. BASIL opened the door for him.

SUNNY burst into tears immediately, wiping his eyes. The others came, concerned and/or annoyed from SUNNY's yell waking them up, but SUNNY could only cry, relieved. He did it. He saved BASIL.

So, he talked with BASIL, they both came out with the truth, their friends understood and tried their best to forgive them, happy ending.

... You didn't really think that's how this would end, did you?

As SUNNY got into the car, his friends wished him mildly strained but warm goodbyes. He managed a smile as his mother drove off.

When the car left FARAWAY, SUNNY immediately blacked out. A familiar game over screen showed up in the darkness. SUNNY stared as if he was seeing the screen for the first time.

"... What is this?" He muttered aloud. Someone responded. "Try again."

"What do you mean?" SUNNY shot back. He was surprisingly verbal.

"Try. Again."

"Tell me what you mean."

"This isn't a canon ending. So, try again."

"WHAT DO YOU MEA-"

The RED HAND selected Yes. SUNNY'S vision went white.

He awoke back in bed at BASIL's house with no memories of what had happened past this point.

Of course, he was denied his happy ending where no one got hurt. That just wouldn't do.

Once again, he went to the bathroom and dry heaved. Once again, he fought BASIL and lost his eye.
Instead of getting that burst of adrenaline, SUNNY passed out from his injuries, barely aware of the distant police sirens.

Notes:

This feels really freaking short and I hate it but I don't want to include the omor fight and the truth 💔
I felt DEVIOUS and EEEEVIL while taking away SUNNY's good ending, hope it wasn't too cringe :3
Anyway I think no dialogue tag has gotta go... Bye bye 🙁👋
Now, back to procrastination. See you next month!!

Edit from 7/22/25: I reread my fic and found some things silly in this chapter, so I just want to explain.

1. Sunny stabbing his own thighs. It's just a sort of way of venting his frustration for letting Basil die so much. I found it silly because it feels like that one meme that was popular a while ago where there are these two people dating and the girl to the bathroom, but then she leaves without telling her boyfriend, and the boyfriend crashes out about it, but he realized he hurt the girl and starts hurting himself. Just me? I dunno.

2. Sunny yelling Basil's name: Catching him off guard to stop him from doing it. Shock equals confusion, and most people stop what they're doing if they're confused. Basically, it's silly on purpose.

Chapter 7

Notes:

AHH I FINALLY MADE THIS!!! I procrastinated way too much I'm sorry I didn't actually mean to wait for a whole ass month before posting 💔💔

Chapter Text

When SUNNY became conscious, his eyes were attacked by the shining light of the bright blue sky. Wait, no, just one eye...

He looked around the place and found he was on a rooftop. The last thing he remembered was his fight with OMORI.

His feet moved on their own, taking him to an opening where the rails of the building had a large split. He didn't know why.

It was a long way down. SUNNY tried to step back, but he didn't seem to be in control of his body anymore.
Whatever had taken over made him step off the edge. He was sent plummeting to the ground.

SUNNY wanted to scream, to yelp, to at least change his expression, but nothing seemed to work. His body didn't feel like his anymore.

When the fall finally ended, agony filled his body for a moment before everything went dark. He wasn't met with the Game Over screen. That was strange.

He sat in the dark for a little. It was scary, being all alone in silence and darkness. Maybe he should try to sleep. He lay down, but the ground was far too uncomfortable for him to get any rest.

A shadowy figure appeared before SUNNY. He stared down at him with coldness before speaking, his voice interrupting the previously perpetual silence.

"Why did you do that?"

SUNNY stared back. He replied quietly. "Do what?" STRANGER's eyes narrowed. He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Jump. What else would I be talking about?"

SUNNY became more confused. The whole situation was confusing.

"I didn't do anything. My body moved on its own," he explained. STRANGER raised an eyebrow. "Then it was OMORI?"

As if summoned, OMORI appeared behind SUNNY. He shook his head. STRANGER became more frustrated. "You didn't control him to make him jump? Then... why did he jump?"

The three stood in the darkness (sat, in SUNNY's case) for a while before STRANGER spoke again. "This whole situation is nonsense. If neither of you two made him jump, then who did? Are one of you lying?"

SUNNY opened his mouth to answer, but then a light appeared in front of him. It was the same star that was in the picnic baskets. SUNNY glanced up at STRANGER. The shadowy boy nodded at him, so he reached out to the star...

He opened his eyes and found himself backstage, a picnic basket in front of him. He wondered why he was sent back to a time in his dreams, but he didn't question further.

Stepping up onto the stage, SUNNY set down his sheet music and started to play. His hands shook as he played. This time he held his tears, but it was still saddening regardless.

Then, he was sent to WHITE SPACE. After some mindless wandering, he found OMORI waiting for him. OMORI wielded his knife. SUNNY held his bow tightly and started to fight.

After a while, SUNNY struck OMORI thrice, whittling his HEART down to 0. But as they both knew would happen, OMORI did not succumb. OMORI changed, his now reddish hue contrasting against the void of WHITE SPACE.

OMORI began to speak in his chilling voice.

"Why do you bother?"

SUNNY paused for a moment, noticing that the dialogue had changed. Then, he mentally facepalmed himself for being dumb. Of course OMORI would say other things, he remembered the LOADS too. SUNNY continued to fight while listening to OMORI's words.

"You try, and you try, and you try, but what is it all for? Your fate is sealed. Stop fighting and just die. Even if you change your fate somehow, your friends will never forgive you. They'll abandon you like you did them... and that's what you deserve."

Once again, OMORI reached 0 HEART, then came back. The void around them became red like OMORI, complete with gigantic hands.

"Maybe they'll even kill you for what you did. She might kill you again. Deep down, you know it. You're scared of your own friend... You say you care, but you're a liar. A real friend wouldn't be scared of death at their friend's hands."

SUNNY trembled slightly when hearing those words. He knew he was scared of AUBREY after what happened. OMORI pointing it out made him want to hate himself, but he tried his best to PERSIST anyway.

"You're useless... less than useless.
You're sick. You don't deserve to come back. You should just die."

SUNNY used ALLEGRO to end the phase again. There's no need to state what OMORI did.

"Your friends are wrong about you. The person they love isn't you at all. You let them believe in a lie to protect yourself. You're nothing but a liar... and if they see the truth... They'll hate you as much as you hate yourself. If they know the truth, you'll never be able to regain their trust. No matter what you do, it will be hopeless. All you'll do is make things worse. It would be better to just die."

SUNNY was a bit confused why OMORI said almost the exact same things as the first time, but he chalked it up to him trying to reiterate his point.

"You killed MARI. She loved you and you killed her. HERO loved her and you killed her. AUBREY loved her and you killed her. KEL loved her and you killed her. BASIL loved her and you killed her. You loved her and you killed her. She should've been the one to come back, not you. Even after death, she's suffering because of your stupidity. Everything would be better if you were never born at all."

Finally, OMORI dealt the last blows to SUNNY, and the elder fell, defeated.

As the Game Over screen appeared, SUNNY wondered to himself why he'd even chosen to give up in the first place when there was an option not to. Had his finger slipped? He didn't remember. This time, he made the choice to continue.

Pushing past the darkness, SUNNY came face-to-face with OMORI once again. He changed his stance from one ready to fight to one ready to play.

As he heard the piano begin to play behind him, he had to physically resist from dropping his violin and instead hugging the girl whom he knew was playing the music. He focused on playing his part right instead.

As they played, memories flashed through SUNNY's thoughts. They were bittersweet now, but they helped him PERSIST.

As the song came to an end, SUNNY glanced at MARI. She smiled at him, and tears came to his eyes, but he continued to play. When the song ended and MARI disappeared, leaving him with OMORI, SUNNY embraced OMORI once again. Instead of giving his control to him, he let him go so he could face what was to come.

When OMORI disappeared, SUNNY made his way to the door leading him out of WHITE SPACE. He put his hand on the doorknob, thinking things over.

Maybe OMORI was right. Maybe they would hate him. Maybe they'd even kill him over it. But in the end, they needed to know. He couldn't keep this from them.

He let go of the doorknob and turned around, staring into the void behind him that had become so familiar. He bowed to no one in particular, then he took his leave.

Notes:

Allusions to player... Mwahahahaha
I think I did fairly well on this chapter, but at the same time, I'm not sure. Let me know what you think!
My interest in Omori might die for a little while when Deltarune chapters 3-4 come out, so I'll try my best to get the next (maybe last?) chapter out before then.
Maybe you could give me some suggestions on how the group will react...? 🥺🥺 Tysm

Chapter 8: this is a rewrite

Notes:

Oopsie daisy... I forgor something really big. So I had to rewrite a lot of the chapter.
I feel like this version is a lot worse in writing, but at least it isn't inaccurate to the rest of the story.
Enjoy :3c

Chapter Text

SUNNY opened his eye, greeted by the white ceiling and walls of the hospital. Immediately, he began to tear up. He wasn't sure if it was from grief or from relief.

After wiping away his tears, he stood up, a little shaky on his feet. He wondered why his whole body felt weak when only his eye was damaged. He started to walk slowly, observing the get well soon gifts for him. There weren't too many, but that was reasonable enough, considering he didn't really have any friends apart from the obvious ones.

After exiting his room, he wandered around for a little before finding BASIL's room. He opened the door and entered, seeing his friends standing around BASIL's bed. SOMETHING was surrounding BASIL. He walked closer until they noticed him.

"SUNNY, you're awake!" KEL exclaimed, clearly surprised, as were the others. "A-Are you sure you should be moving like that?" HERO spoke up too, backing up KEL's point. "Careful, SUNNY... You shouldn't be walking yet... Your wound might reopen..."

SUNNY thought about the truth he was about to tell. Once again, he thought about how they might react, but not wanting to overstress and chicken out, he decided to get it out quickly.

He opened his mouth, but then, his legs suddenly gave out on him. His friends rushed towards him in worry. AUBREY called out to him. "SUNNY? SUNNY! Are you okay?"

SUNNY didn't respond for a moment, making AUBREY more worried. "... Say something..."

"..."

SUNNY took one last deep breath.

"I..."

KEL slightly jolted at the sound of SUNNY's voice. HERO seemed to become more sad at hearing it. AUBREY didn't react, simply worried about him.

"... I have to tell you something."

HERO put a comforting hand on SUNNY's shoulder, trying to gently encourage him to continue. "You can tell us anything, SUNNY."

SUNNY tensed at the warmth before relaxing again. He looked up at his friends, seeing all of their worried faces. He looked up at BASIL, unconscious on the bed. He had to say it... He had to...

"I... I killed Mari."

The atmosphere in the room seemed to become stiff and cold at those three words. SUNNY tried his best to ignore it and continue.

"On the night of the recital... I broke my violin. MARI got mad, then we got into an argument... I tried to leave. She blocked my way. I... I pushed her down the stairs."

AUBREY immediately backed away, now horrified and furious. "YOU WHAT?!"

SUNNY flinched at her yell, hands moving over his ears. KEL also backed away a bit.

Meanwhile, HERO's reaction was a bit strange. No anger. No horror. No surprise. He stared at the floor blankly. It was something you'd expect SUNNY to do, but SUNNY wasn't the one doing it. Then, quietly, he spoke.

"SUNNY. I'm going to need you to tell me if you've died before, and how many times you've died."

Everyone but HERO completely froze. SUNNY didn't expect this to come up, but now that it did, he remembered that HERO had faint memories of his LOADs. He reasoned that in the previous LOAD, where he killed himself, BASIL must have decided to come clean, and HERO remembered it. But to bring it up in front of KEL and AUBREY...?

KEL forced a laugh. "HERO, what are you saying? SUNNY can't have died. He's right he-"

"Yeah."

KEL stared at SUNNY, as did AUBREY. AUBREY spoke in a cold tone. "SUNNY, you're either kidding or totally insane."

HERO stood up. "We all know that SUNNY's generally nonverbal... So I'll tell you what I know so he doesn't have to. You can still correct anything I say though, SUNNY."

SUNNY felt a bit warm when HERO took over for him. He gave him an appreciative nod. HERO began to speak.

"The first time I noticed it was in the middle of the night, the day before I came back to FARAWAY. I couldn't sleep, so I was pouring myself some water. Suddenly, I found that I hadn't poured any water. I hadn't even gotten out of bed. I decided to convince myself that I had fallen asleep and I dreamed of pouring myself water, then I went to sleep instead of getting up."

KEL and AUBREY listened with incredulous expressions. KEL opened his mouth to speak, but AUBREY slapped a hand over his mouth before he could even start. SUNNY was intrigued, hearing HERO's side of things. HERO continued.

"Then, it was when I was packing my things to get ready to go. I found that time seemed to go back and repeat not once, not twice, but thrice, for seemingly no reason at all. I half expected it to happen again, honestly... But it didn't until evening. Then, the next day, it happened again when I was in the car... When I got to FARAWAY, I finally found a reason for the weird time loops."

KEL was now hooked in the story. AUBREY was still a bit suspicious, but she listened with an open mind. BASIL was starting to wake up.

"When I got back, Mom told me that KEL and SUNNY had gone out to look for BASIL. I felt like something was wrong. I went to the park, then to the secret hang out spot. KEL explained the situation to me, then I dived into the lake to save SUNNY and BASIL..."
HERO looked down at the ground, his voice shrinking a bit. "They were both dead when I got them to the surface."

AUBREY visibly flinched at the thought of SUNNY and BASIL dying, and KEL gasped quietly. He felt some guilt rising in his chest. After all, he was the one who sent SUNNY into the lake.

Steeling himself, HERO kept telling his story. "Then... time went back. This time, I didn't bother with talking to Mom. I went straight to the lake to save BASIL. SUNNY seemed too scared to enter the water... I started to think that maybe SUNNY was causing this all. And I was right, wasn't I...?"

SUNNY glanced away, then he nodded. KEL immediately kneeled down to hug him. SUNNY flinched, but he hugged back.

"Then... the most recent one... SUNNY didn't come here. BASIL was the one to tell us the truth. That's why I wasn't surprised... But I don't know why time went back. I don't think I want to know."

With that, HERO finished his story. The room was silent.

...

"Um... What did I miss...?"

All eyes turned to the now awake BASIL. He was sitting on his hospital bed, a bit dazed and completely clueless.

AUBREY gave him a brief summary of HERO's story. BASIL was shocked, slumping back onto the bed and staring at nothing.

"... S-SUNNY died. I died... Oh my goodness."

HERO sighed. "Maybe don't be so blunt, AUBREY...?" AUBREY scoffed at HERO. "I don't think I should be expected to be gentle when I've just been told that my childhood friend murdered his sister and can come back from the dead." SUNNY looked away.

BASIL suddenly asked a question, looking down at his hands. "I'm sorry if this is rude, but... SUNNY... Could you tell us... how you've died...?" SUNNY tensed up.

KEL gaped at BASIL in shock, then he got a little angry. "Dude! I thought I was the emotionally dense one here, how could you just ask that??"

BASIL flinched. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, you don't have to answer me..."

SUNNY slowly stood up, staring at BASIL as he decided whether to answer or not.

"..."

The others in the room stared at him, waiting for his response. That made him feel a bit pressured, so he got it out more quickly.

"I-I won't answer. I know how it feels to know that you're responsible for someone's death... and I wouldn't wish that upon any of you. So... yeah."

HERO immediately responded, his tone serious. "Wait, but that implies that one of us have killed you."

SUNNY froze, realizing his wording gave away more than he wanted it to. He quickly considered his options, then made the choice that he decided would be best.

... He bolted out of the room.

AUBREY's first reaction was to give chase. "HEY, WAIT, YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE!" HERO stopped her, though. She turned to glare at him, but she softened when seeing his expression. She sighed and took a seat at a table nearby. KEL decided to do so as well, leaving HERO to be the one standing, since there weren't any more chairs.

The room fell into uncomfortable silence.
