Chapter 1: Easter 2025 - Fluff

Summary:

This chapter is set some time after the Epilogue

🦌~Alastor's POV~🦌


Alastor opened the oven, heat and some steam escaping from the front as remove the carrot cake from it. Today was Easter and he had baken it for the occasion. Carefully, he placed it on the kitchen counter, takeing in the sweet smell which lingered in the air.

 Alastor glanced over to his mother's open recipe book.They always baked this cake for this festivity, though the Easter Bunny tradition didn't run in his family. His father hadn't wanted him to think of bunnies as anything more than food, so his mother had kept the magic alive by telling him about the winged bells, which in France traditionally brought sweets instead of bunnies. She had made the day special by colouring eggs with him, but what he remembered most were the long, rather boring visits to the church.

Good thing there will be no such thing today. Alastor thought with a smile as he closed the recipe book. He checked that the cake was well baked by poking it with a knife. As always, it was perfect. Only the icing was missing and he had bought those little carrot shaped decorations too.

 The doorbell rang and Alastor's ears flicked to the open kitchen door. He quickly took off his apron and checked to make sure the oven was turned off before leaving the kitchen and heading for the chatter at the entrance. Lucifer had already opened the door for Charlie, Vaggie and their grandchildren to enter.

 »Grandpère!« Milo greeted him as soon as his eyes landed on him before he took off running, crashing into his legs and hugging him enthusiastically.

 »Well hello little prince~« Alastor greeted him, patting his blond hair»You look very excited. Could it be because of this special day?«

 Milo let go of him, his eyes twinkling as he said »Yes! Mum said we might even see the Easter Bunny! She said she knows the best hiding spot to catch a glimpse!«

 Alastor chuckled. Lucifer would later shape-shift and play the part of the bunny. He had been rambling all morning about how Charlie still believed in the Easter Bunny as a teenager because he was so good at it. »Well, I think this might be your chance to finally see it.« For the past few years they had been to Charlie and Vaggie's house and even up to heaven once to visit Alastor's mother for Easter, so this was the first time they had organised the day for the grandkids.

 Charlie walked up to them »Papa, did you make your delicious carrot cake? I recognise the smell!«

 Alastor's heart warmed at the thought, he had baked it for Charlie as a child too »Indeed, my little fawn~«

 Vaggie, holding a sleeping Kaylee in her arms, asked »What's a carrot cake?«

 Lucifer chuckled, »Exactly what it sounds like. The taste is very similar to nut cake, but sweeter and with a hint of cinnamon« he explained.

 »Sounds good.« Vaggie said then looked down at Kaylee as she wiggled and opened her eyes to see why so many people were talking, looking almost grumpy as she made a displeased baby noise.

 How adorable. Alastor's heart melted at the sight of her.

 »Mum!« Milo called to Charlie, »Can you show me the hiding place? I don't want to miss the right moment!«

 Charlie giggled and winked at Lucifer »I'll go out in the garden and show him.«

 Lucifer grinned and nodded knowingly »All right, we'll set the table~«

 He looks so excited. So cute~ Alastor thought as he saw Lucifer sneak up behind Charlie and Milo and then watch them through the kitchen window in the garden. His tail was out, flicking behind his back as he watched them.

 Alastor and Vaggie, with Kaylee, joined him and all three watched as Charlie showed Milo the spot in the garden between two trees and a bush where she used to hide when Lucifer played Easter Bunny for her as a child.

 »Brings back old memories, huh?« Lucifer sighed, watching her dreamily »They grow up so fast...«

 Vaggie scoffed »One Hell year is like ten human years. I think that's pretty long for them to be children.«

 Lucifer shrugged, »Just you wait, you'll look back one day and realise that even that was way too fast.«

 As Charlie went back inside, she signaled Lucifer to come out.

 The little one grinned broadly, »Showtime~« and transformed into a slightly oversized, snow-white bunny with red freckles and stripes like a coloured egg.

 Alastor giggled, »I can't wait to see Milo's face when he sees you.«

 The Lucifer bunny winked at him, then disappeared in a puff of golden glitter to reappear somewhere in the garden.

 Charlie quickly took his spot by the window, »Oh my gosh, Vaggie, look look!« she squealed.

 And so they all watched as Lucifer did his best bunny impression, hopping across the garden and then peeking up between the tulips, his long ears twitching in Milo's direction.

Alastor chuckled at the sight. He's so cute.
 
 Lucifer made a show of sniffing the air, then shook his little furry head and began to conjure up some colourful eggs. He picked them up in his tiny paws and waddled through the garden to hide them in various places, all the while Milo watched him from behind the trees, his eyes wide and sparkling with wonder.

 »I didn't think he'd listen to me.« Charlie commented, »I told him to stay hidden or he would scare off the Easter Bunny and not get any eggs to collect.«

 Vaggie snorted, »You can see he really wants to get out and catch him.«

 Ideed, he looked like he was about to burst out of his hiding place »Who wants to bet?«

 Charlie burst out laughing, »Sure, what do you want to bet on?«

 Alastor gave her a cocky smile, »I say he gets out at the end to have the eggs and a chance to catch the bunny. He is a smart kid.«

 Vaggie chimed in »I think so too, and I think he can catch him.«

 »No way.« Alastor waved her off, »Charlie tried so hard to catch him as a kid and never came close.«
 
 Charlie chuckled »I think he won't last to the end and will jump out of his hidng spot the moment Dad gets close enough.«

 Alastor nodded »Fine, the winner gets the first piece of cake~«

 They all watched as Lucifer teasingly hopped very close to Milo's hiding spot to hide some eggs.

 Everyone held their breath as he even lingered there for a while, pretending to clean his snout and ears, faking inattention even though he knew Milo was right behind the trees.

 »Come on« Charlie urged, leaning over the kitchen counter as the tension grew.
 
 Lucifer made a show of looking around before hopping further down the garden to hide some more eggs.

 Charlie let out a defeated sigh »I really thought he would-«

 Suddenly, a flash of red and golden light blinded all three of them.

 Alastor blinked a few times before staring in astonishment at Lucifer's furry bunny ass, trapped in a golden and red glowing cage in the middle of the garden. The stunned look on his face was visible even in his shape-shifted bunny form.  

 Milo jumped out of his hiding place with a cheerful »Hurray!« and ran up to the cage to admire the captured Easter bunny.

 Alastor looked at Charlie and Vaggie who both had their mouths wide open in shock, »What do we do now?«

 The door slammed open and Milo carried the cage inside »Look Mom! I caught him! I caught the Easter Bunny!«

 Charlie smiled »Wow! How did you do that?«

 Milo set the cage down in front of them. Lucifer's eyes darted up to Alastor with a clear 'help' in them. Can't he port out? Is he really stuck?

 Milo crossed his arms over his chest and said very confidently, »I cast a trap spell when Mum and I went out. I perfected it all last month in preparation for this very day.«

 Charlie and Vaggie exchanged looks, but Vaggie shrugged as if to say, 'I didn't know either.'

 So Alastor chimed in, »What are you going to do with the Easter Bunny now, little prince? Cook it? Eat it?« he asked teasingly.

 »Noooo« Milo gasped, quickly picking up the cage »You can't eat it, Grandpère!«

 Oh I sure can, just not in the way he thinks. Alastor hummed theatrically »Fine... what then?«

 »I want to keep it as a pet and then it can create chocolate eggs for me eeeeevery day.« Milo explained proudly.

 The look of horror on Charlie's face was nothing short of delightful. They all knew that Milo on chocolate was like a shaken can of energy.

 Charlie knelt down in front of him and looked Milo in the eye, »Milo, that would be great fun, yes, and I am sure you would take good care of Mr Easter Bunny, but think about what it would mean for every other child here.«

 Milo cocked his head, »What do you mean?«

 Charlie smiled softly at him, »If you keep him here, he won't be able to hide chocolates for all the other children, sweetheart. They'd wait and wait for the Easter Bunny to come and be very disappointed when he doesn't...«

 Milo looked down at Lucifer, who decided this was the right moment to lay his ears back, hold the bars of the cage with his tiny paws and give him the saddest little bunny look with his big eyes and blown pupils.

 Are those tears? What a drama queen. Alastor thought at the sight.

 Milo bit his lip, thought about what his mother had said, then nodded, »You're right. That would be unfair...« He picked up the cage and pushed open the door to the garden, »I'm sorry, Mr Easter Bunny. I hope you'll forgive me for catching you... but it's okay if you don't and don't want to come back to me,« he said the last part sniffling.

 As he opened the cage. The white rabbit slowly left the cage, sat up on its hind legs and, with a puff of golden glitter, created the biggest fucking chocolate egg Alastor had ever seen. The rabbit winked at Milo and then disappeared in a puff of golden glitter.

 »I don't think he's mad at you.« Charlie said, rubbing Milo's back, »You did the right thing. I am very proud of you.«

 Lucifer, in his normal form, appeared behind Alastor and walked through the open door »What's going on? Did I miss something?«

 Milo jumped to his feet and said »Grandpaaaa you missed aaaaaall of it! I caught the Easter Bunny! And now I have this giant egg! Look!«

 Lucifer made a shocked face, »You did?! Oh by the seven rings, no one has ever caught it before!¯

 This went on for a while, then Vaggie handed Milo a small basket and followed him through the garden, Kaylee in her arms.

 Alastor snuck up on Lucifer and hugged him from behind, then whispered to his ear »You're getting old~ Charlie never caught you.«

 Lucifer chuckled »No kidding, he got me good.« then whispered »His magic is far more advanced than it should be at his age. The spell he cast was very similar to the shilds I created in the fight against Sera.«
 
 This surprised Alastor, »You mean you were really unable to escape?«

 The little one turned in his arms and looked up at him »Not without revealing myself. As long as he thought I was the Easter Bunny, the spell would have held me. So I would have had to shift or tell him. But I didn't want to ruin it for him.«

 Alastor's ears flicked over to Charlie as she approached »but a giant chocolate egg? Do you want to kill me?«

 Lucifer snorted "It's just a thin layer and hollow inside, don't worry.«

 Charlie nodded and looked over to Milo »I think we handled it well. He'll probably never forget the day he caught the Easter Bunny.« she giggled.

 Alastor nodded »Neither will I. He got your fluffy ass, ducky~« he gave Lucifer's ass a little squeeze to emphasise the point.

 »Behave.« Lucifer warned him, pointing a finger »Not in front of the children.«

 Alastor gave him a cheeky smile and nodded »Fine...« he kissed the top of his head and let him go, immediately missing the warmth of him in his arms. He would make up for it later, when the children were home.

 When all the eggs were gathered, they went back inside to eat some carrot cake. Right on cue the doorbell rang and Alastor hurried over to answer it. His mother was waiting on the other side, along with Azrael in his long white trench coat and ice blue scarf.

 »Maman~ Azrael! Happy Easter! So good to see you two.« He greeted them, then hugged his mother, nodding to Azrael, both greeted him as well with Easter wishes »Come in, come in, we just started cutting the cake.«

 »I'm sorry we're a bit late.« Azrael apologised »It's always a bit chaotic in Heaven at Easter, with the parade and everything. I got held up and...«

 Alastor shook his head, »Don't worry about it, I'm just glad you two were able to join us« he offered a warm smile to his best friend and saw his face soften and smile back.

 Alastor's mother gave him a kiss on the cheek and said, »I'm so glad we got to spend the day together« then she walked towards the dining room with a cheerful »Where are my little bout d'chous? Did the bells bring you many sweets?« as she headed straight for her great-grandchildren.

 Azrael cocked his head »The bells?«

 Alastor snorted »French thing, don't worry about it.«

 The love and joy radiateing from the gathered family around the table as the cake was served filled Alastor's heart with a warm and fuzzy feeling. He vowed to always cherrish those moments and keep them within his heart. His eyes locked with Lucifer's and he knew, his soulmate felt the same.

 Alastor chuckled »Bambi? Are you Thumper then?«

 Every time Alastor got close or grabbed him, Lucifer slipped through his fingers and made a show of it, adding little twirls and spins.
