Chapter Text

“What the hell is wrong with you two?”

Suga mumbled, looking at Oikawa with a frown on his face. He was concerned for his friend. They were shopping together and Suga brought this topic out as he had enough of seeing Oikawa and Iwaizumi walking on eggshells around each other. They were sitting together, having smoothies.

“What do you mean?” Oikawa innocently blinked and Suga knew he was not innocent at all.

“You and Iwaizumi San. Don't lie to me, I know something is happening. The tension between you two is unbearable.”

“We fought a little, that's all”

Oikawa didn't seem like he wanted to reveal anything. Suga sensed his hesitation and didn't push it further.

“Oh, I hope you two will figure things out. I don't want you to be stressed, darling.”

“Hm,” Oikawa's pretty face had turned into a dark cloud.

It was a pretty rough experience. It was embarrassing and humiliating. In his life, Oikawa had never experienced such a shameful incident. What Hajime had done to him.

“You are a pathetic cheater…”

Oikawa wasn't a cheater. It was unbearable hearing that from Iwaizumi. He loved Iwaizumi. He just wanted and waited for Iwaizumi to ask him to be his boyfriend, officially. But that never happened. Instead Iwaizumi started avoiding him and then ‘bam’ that incident happened.

“You only want me for my body, here you go”

The things Iwaizumi had done to him, the things he had accused Oikawa of, none of them were true. It broke his heart so badly and it had made Oikawa crying to his sleep almost every day. Daichi had even asked him whether he was overworking Oikawa, seeing the swollen eye bags of the latter.

“Shall we go? Daichi will pick us.”

Sugawara’s gentle hand was on Oikawa's shoulder. He patted Oikawa's back. They were shopping, looking for items for Suga's wedding.

**********

“Hello darling”

Suga planted a quick kiss on Daichi’s cheek after he got into the car. Oikawa helped him to put his bags on the backseat and he got in. Yuzuki was sitting at the front and the kid happily sat on his soon to be father's lap.

“Hey, enjoyed shopping?”

“Very much. How's school?” Suga asked and pecked Yuzuki’s forehead. Yuzuki was in first grade and he was still getting used to the new environment. Oikawa was silently sitting at the back seat, watching how endearing his boss's family was. He felt sad. Someone like Daichi deserved the happy life he was having right now, after the years of struggle with raising his son as a busy, single father.

“Fine, I got a special star for my math homework.”

“Really? How nice! I'm so proud of you”

Suga smiled. Oh, the struggle he went through making Yuzuki do his math homework.

“Tooru, you should take a break. You look terrible and I feel guilty,” Daichi mentioned.

“No need, I’ll go insane without work”

“Your choice, but please take care of yourself. And if something is bothering you, we are always here to help.”

“Thank you, Daichi, Suga”

After dropping off Oikawa at home, Suga sighed.

“I hope he’ll be okay. What has your friend done to him?”

“I don’t know, maybe Oikawa had done something?”

“I don’t believe so”

“I’ll show you something after we go home”

**********

Suga’s jaw dropped as he was scrolling through Daichi’s phone. Many many articles about a volleyball star dating rumours involving Oikawa Tooru.

“People really need to mind their own business,” Suga was angry. This probably might’ve damaged Oikawa’s relationship with Iwaizumi.

“You see, they are holding hands,” Daichi poked his head into the phone and scrolled towards one article.

“Oh, hopefully we are misunderstanding their situation,” Suga said, not wanting to believe that Oikawa would do something like that. Oikawa wasn’t a person who would betray his lover.

“He doesn’t look healthy at all. He wouldn’t worry so much if he didn’t care about Hajime and cheat on him with another guy.”

“Mhm, I hope they will figure things out soon. You know, I felt the same way when that Terushima guy called you. I thought you were cheating.”

“Gosh, I was so scared that I thought you would leave me,” Daichi shook his head, not wanting to be reminded of that incident. Terushima was on good terms with them now, agreeing to take care of their grooming.

“I would never leave you,” Suga leaned in and gave Daichi a quick peck on the lips.

**********

Daichi and Suga would be getting married in a few months and Hajime Iwaizumi accepted to be Daichi’s best man. Oikawa Tooru had also agreed to be Suga’s and Hajime wondered how he and Kawa would get along. He was still angry at Kawa for cheating on him with Ushijima and he wanted to avenge it. His case was over months ago and he couldn’t bear Oikawa and Ushijima dating rumours. Oikawa was supposed to be his boyfriend. But it seemed like Oikawa just wanted Hajime for his body, and sex, and to have his attention. He had never said that he loved Hajime and now Hajime was understanding all of it. Oikawa was truly such a bastard.

But Hajime had his doubts. Was he too rough on Oikawa? He couldn't get rid of the picture of Oikawa's eyes at that time, laced with helplessness, shame and disbelief at the way Hajime had acted. At the time he was mad at Oikawa but now he was feeling guilty and was ashamed of his actions. But how could he make things right?

It was getting difficult to avoid conversations with Oikawa. They had to communicate about matters related to Daichi and Suga’s wedding. They never let their eyes meet each other. Iwaizumi lost his mind whenever he looked at Oikawa’s pretty face, now seemed weary and sleepless. He was still pretty though. His pretty Kawa, ran away from him for another guy. Wasn’t Ushijima taking care of Tooru? If Oikawa was his boyfriend he would never let those dark circles around the pretty doe eyes happen, he would never let Oikawa overwork. But Oikawa wasn’t his anymore. Of course, Ushijima had fame, popularity which aligned with Oikawa’s desire to be the center of attention. The respect, the fame Iwaizumi had as a lawyer was nothing compared to a sports star.

“What’s up?” Daichi raised a brow one day when Oikawa disappeared with Suga to the kitchen. They were meeting up to discuss stuff about the wedding. Daichi and Suga both wanted their wedding at home, with the closest family and friends.

“Nothing,” Iwaizumi knew what Daichi was talking about but he pretended even though knowing that he would have to confess at last.

“We both know you are lying”

“He cheated, that’s all. Don’t ask more questions”

Daichi shut his mouth and empathetically watched Hajime gulping down his glass of wine in one go.

“He’s all over the news,” Iwaizumi said in a low grumble but his voice cracked. He wished that he looked irritated and mad but instead he looked sad and miserable. He didn’t want to sulk, he was a grown man. Only Oikawa could make him cry like that. He dragged a deep breath before pouring another portion of wine into his glass.

The day he confronted Oikawa, things went really bad between them. Hajime never wanted to bring that up, with anyone. He didn’t just confront him, he punished him. He took his revenge.

“I’m here for the sake of you two. I can bear it up for you.”

“I’m sorry, but thank you. If there’s anything you need, I’m always here,” Daichi patted his back. They both went silent when Suga appeared from the kitchen, holding another plate of snacks. Iwaizumi didn’t have the appetite to enjoy food right now.

**********

Azumane Asahi was an apparel designer in a branded company, and he was Daichi’s neighbour. He was married to Yuu Nishinoya, a marketing manager, and they had been together for five years, living in a big house which was too much for the two, so they were renting the upper story to two college boys.

Lately, Nishinoya has been very reserved and silent. Usually, he was full of energy all the time so Asahi wondered if he had done something wrong. Was Nishinoya stressed? He decided to talk about it when they would get to bed that night.

“Noya?” Asahi was nervous. He might be just overthinking.

“Hm?” Nishinoya turned to his side, facing him. He was just so adorable when he had his damp hair down.

“Are you okay? You seem a little bit distant lately. I don’t know whether I’m overthinking. But I’m concerned.”

Nishinoya gently smiled.

“Aww, baby. I’m alright, I just have something in my mind.”

“May I know what it is?”

Noya brought their hands together and intertwined their fingers.

“I don’t want this if you aren’t ready but I’ve been thinking about having a baby.”

“A baby? You can’t have babies though”

“We are adopting. How are you so stupid?” Nishinoya huffed.

“Sorry, I was joking.”

“But I’m not, I want a baby. You see Sawamura’s little boy. I also want a kid like that. We will be great fathers, don’t you think?”

Asahi always loved Nishinoya’s confidence and self assurance. Asahi wasn’t a very forward guy but Nishinoya was. What Noya was talking about made sense. They were financially doing well, just a little bit busy, and their mothers could help with raising the baby because they had no idea about it.

But Asahi wasn’t sure yet. He wondered if he would be a good father. He was always awkward with kids because his appearance always scared them. It wasn’t his fault at all. He was that guy where mothers would point at to scare the children that he would be kidnapping them if they wouldn’t behave. Nonetheless, he loved children and was gentle with them. The only trouble was when kids wouldn’t behave well and Asahi didn’t know how to control them. He was too gentle, not strict at all. He was afraid of scolding and making children cry.

Of course, Nishinoya read his face.

“Stop overthinking. I can hear your thoughts. Of course you will be a good father.”

“I don’t know, actually. I won’t be perfect at that.”

“Nobody is perfect, I always tell you,” Nishinoya sighed. “We can always work through our imperfections to be better, okay? We can change for the better.”

“I love you, Noya”

Asahi scooted closer and kissed Nishinoya’s forehead. Nishinoya caved in for an embrace and both of them drifted off to sleep.
