Work Text:
It was morning, right after the dawn ordeal, and Don Quixote was stuffing her face with a burger. Her, Yi Sang, and Ryōshū sat inside of the training department, right outside a door with 2 Golden Arches over it. It’s where they and several other agents came to heal themselves after every ordeal, the training department practically turned into the cafeteria with nearly every agent there, filled with sounds of talking from both inside and out the McDonald’s. Don Quixote’s razor sharp teeth, which she obtained from Meat Lantern along with her E.G.O gear, tore through her burger, much to the discomfort of Yi Sang who sat across from her, who was wearing the gear of Funeral of Dead butterflies. “…Must you devour your meal with such haste, Don Quixote?”
Don Quixote spoke with food in her mouth, her words nearly intangible,“ah! But I muph hurriph!” She swallowed her food, her voice becoming much clearer, “For today is special! Manager Esquire has assigned me to a new abnormality! Any moment now, I shall be summoned, so I must finish this meal as fast as I can!” Don Quixote continued eating, going after her fries next.
“B.B.” Ryōshū commented, wearing Spider Bud’s E.G.O, but having both red eyes and penitence on the floor leaning against her chair. She had not taken a single bite out of her small burger, instead a cigar hovered in her mouth.
Yi Sang meanwhile took modest bites out of his own burger. “You certainly seem most eager to continue your work.” Yi Sang said, “my fellows are quite the opposite. They tremble at the thought of working with some of the more powerful specimen.”
“Hmph. Cowards.” Ryōshū said, finally taking a nibble out of her own food.
As Don Quixote discarded her fries and finished the remains of her burger, a voice blared over the intercoms. “Attention!” The voice of a young girl spoke, “This is Tipereth. Don Quixote, please report to Central Command and begin work on O-01-04 immediately.” Tipereth repeated herself again while Don Quixote began to chug her soda.
“No rush though, take your time,” the voice of a young boy chimed in, “hello, I’m also Tipereth.”
“Take your time? Are you insane? The abnormality looks like she’s about to lose it!” Tipereth A argued, “whatever, just get down there!” The sound of static played as the intercom ended.
“It appears you have been summoned, Don Quixote. I wish you the best of luck on your-” before Yi Sang could finish speaking, she had blasted off. Yi Sang sighed, “whatever aught we to do with her?”
“Relax. Maybe she’ll finally make something interesting happen around here.” Ryōshū said with a smile.
Don Quixote rushed towards central command, practically crashing into the door. “Do not fear! Upon manager Esquire’s orders, I shall assist… thee…” Don found herself looking at a brightly colored disheveled woman on the floor. She looked up, the shadow over her face covering everything but a singular yellow, glowing eye.
“Why am I here?” The girl asked in a raspy voice, “what is my purpose?”
Don Quixote took a deep breath in and out. She had been practicing for stronger abnormalities for days, attending all of Hod’s excessive training programs (even being the only one to stay awake for all of them). She slowly approached the girl on the floor. “Pray tell, whatever could thou mean?”
“I was supposed to fight villains… but there aren’t any villains here, are there?” She slowly rose, “I’m a magical girl. If there’s no villains then… what is my purpose? Why am I even here!?” As she rose, her voice rose in urgency and desperation until she was practically shouting. She put her hands on Don’s shoulders. “Please! Tell me! What do I do!?”
“And what makes thou believe there isn’t still evil afoot?” Don Quixote said.
“…what?”
“Yes, there are many villains in the city. And many people come to combat them! Have thou ever heard of a fixer?”
“Fixer?” The girl’s tone grew even more confused.
Don Quixote was baffled. “You haven’t!? Well, I have much to inform you on then! Fixers are legendary heroes, even I aspired to be one once. Every day they fight for justice, vanquishing villains and saving people!”
“So what you’re saying is…” The girl’s tone became lighter as a smile grew on her face, “if fixers exist, that means villains still do as well?”
“Why of course!” Don Quixote proudly answered, “if not, then they would be out of business!”
“Wow, they sound just like me!” The girl said.
“Y-y-you’re a fixer!?” Don Quixote said enthusiastically, her face turning red and a twinkle in her eyes.
“Yes! Well, not exactly, but I do nothing but fight villains every day!” The girl said with pride.
A tear fell from Don Quixote’s eye as she smiled, “pray tell, what sorts of adventures have thou embarked on?”
“I thought you’d never ask!” The magical girl smiled wide. She talked to Don Quixote for hours about her tales, all the while producing energy. When she was finished, Don Quixote left the containment unit with a smile on her face.
“Hoh! I have returned successful everyone!” She said proudly. Agents and clerks were gathered around the door gawking at Don Quixote, including Yi Sang and Ryōshū
“Don Quixote… do you realize what you have done?” Yi Sang asked.
“Oh? Is there something wrong?”
“Naught is odd here,” Yi Sang clarified, “it’s just… that was the greatest amount of energy that has yet been produced by a singular abnormality in this company.”
“W-W-WHAAAAAT!?” Don Quixote yelled.
“T.E.A first try. Not bad.” Ryōshū remarked.
The noise of radio-like static started on the intercoms again, and Tipereth A’s voice sounded from it. “Well? What are you just standing around for? Get back in there and do… whatever it is you just did!!”
As the days went by, Don Quixote learned more and more about the abnormality. Her name was Queen of Hatred, and she was a magical girl who fought for justice. Over the days, Don became more and more attached to the Queen. She began to wear her E.G.O gear, had her hair-style, and even stayed after hours to obtain her E.G.O gift. She would come into her chamber for basically the whole day, only coming out to deal with ordeals, abnormalities, and other events. Meanwhile, she would share the stories of legendary fixers, while the Queen shared her own stories of her own battles.
One of these days was a particularly slow, painful day for Don Quixote. It was physically and mentally exhausting. One thing led to another, one abnormality broke out, leading to another, leading to another, and before she knew it apocalypse bird was out and the whole facility descended into chaos. It was now a fraction of what it was before, as she shuffled along the bloodied halls of the control team, where most of the chaos took it’s place. She shuffled like a zombie with heavy bags under her eyes, slowly crawling to the one place she knew she would be comfortable after everyone had already left, a place where she would always stay after hours. Queen of Hatred’s containment room.
Don Quixote put on a smile before entering the containment unit. Queen of Hatred seemed to be fidgeting before Don entered, and when she did she got a big smile on her face. However that smile quickly turned concerned upon seeing Don’s condition. “Senpai! You’re alive!” She said, “…are you ok?”
“Verily, I am well as… ever…” she yawned, continuing to shuffle towards Queen of Hatred.
The Queen opened her arms for her, and Don Quixote collapsed in her chest. Queen of Hatred wrapped her in a hug and they both laid down. “You don’t seem very good. You just had to deal with a ton of major arcana, didn’t you?”
“I guess… thou could say so…” her voice began to grow weak.
“I’m always here for you if you need me,” the Queen said, “relax, everything’s ok.”
Don Quixote nuzzled under Queen of Hatred’s neck, a faint smile growing on her face. Queen of Hatred held Don more firmly, but in an effort to comfort her even more. “Thou art more talented than the greatest fixers, yet softer than the comfiest of pillows,” she said.
Queen of Hatred giggled, “I’m always happy to see you, Don. You’re lovely to be around yourself.”
“Am I really?” Don Quixote asked.
Queen of Hatred raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean? Of course you are! You’re energetic, you always listen to my stories, we have the same views on beating up villains, I could go on forever!”
“Yes, we are quite alike and yet… I feel as if I am a lesser version of thee…”
“What?” Queen of Hatred’s tone grew concerned, “lesser version… you’re not lesser than me at all!”
“I have copied your appearance and your magic, yet I shall never reach the same level of such a divine magical maiden as thee…” Don said, “I feel as if… I have taken so much from you, yet barely gave anything back. I always aspired to be like the great fixers in my tales and yet… it feels as if I have failed that dream. I am no fixer… every opportunity I took had fallen out of my grasp, which is how I was able to find work here. I am nothing compared to the likes of thee, and the great fixers who I aspire to be like.” Don Quixote sank deeper into Queen of Hatred’s neck, “what if… I am never able to accomplish such a dream? I have spent all my time thinking about it, and so little to actively achieve it…”
Queen of Hatred grabbed Don’s face by the cheeks. Don Quixote gasped. “Don. Listen to me.” She said in a serious tone, “you are the most wonderful person I have ever met. You make me feel so happy every day, I genuinely don’t know what I would be if you didn’t enter my life. You are what gives me the will to wake up everyday, and you’re much more powerful than you give yourself credit for! I saw you fighting, trying your hardest to keep everyone alive and defeat those villains!”
“And yet, most of the people I tried to protect died… ‘‘twas my failing… all of it…”
“You are so much more than your failures, Don!” The Queen continued, “you managed to save so many people today! You’re strong and brave and… beautiful.” She said, beginning to hold Don’s hands, “if you don’t take away anything else from this conversation, take away this: I love you, Don. I love you more than anything in the world. Please, don’t say such hateful, awful things about yourself because you know they’re not true!”
“Hah…” Don Quixote’s smile grew wider, yet she was still tired and weary. “I love thee the same.”
Queen of Hatred cupped Don’s face, and leaned down to kiss her on the lips. Don Quixote returned the kiss lovingly, wrapping her hands around Queen of Hatred as she did. The two women continued to kiss, light hums and the sounds of kisses filled the room as the two women embraced each other. They continued for what felt like hours, only taking a momentary break to catch their breath, a small bridge of saliva still connecting their lips. Queen of Hatred still cupped Don’s face as Don held her waist. “It’s not fair that only you make me so happy,” the Queen said, “it’s only fair I do the same for you,”
“Ah, but my love,” Don Quixote said, “thou already make me feel wonderful each day.”
The two women went back to kissing even faster, growing even more intense and feverish than before as they hugged each other, and seemed the prolong the moment as long as possible, and growing even more bold with their movements
A few actual hours later, Tipereth A came waddling towards the room, highly annoyed. It was quite a few hours past when she shut off for the night, and she was very, very tired. “Ugh,” she groaned as she approached the Queen’s containment unit, “I thought I had told you several hours ago to lea-” Tipereth walked in on Queen of Hatred and Don Quixote still making out, The Queen’s hand on Don’s thigh and Don’s hand on her lover’s chest. The women pulled away again, panting for a moment as they caught their breath from embracing each other, before Don Quixote looked behind her and yelled, rolling over onto her back.
“M-M-MS.TIPERETH!” She shouted, “IT IS NOT AS IT APPEARS, I SWEAR ON MY LIFE!!!!”
Queen of Hatred nervously chuckled, “heeeey, uh… I was just having some… fun with Senpai, that’s all. She’s working extra hard, I promise!”
“…yeah you know what I think I’ll leave you guys to it.” Tipereth slammed the door shut.
