Chapter Text

Kim Dokja wished he had a nice scent. He wished he was like a sweet lemon cake, or the pages of a new book.

He was a burnt wire.

Not many recognised it, unless you were an electrician who knew what burnt wire smelt like. Or if you were are unlucky as the reader.

Once his laptop overheated and almost exploded. He was in shock, but not from the fire, it was from the familiar scent. That’s what he was? An overworked machine? It fit, didn’t it… He felt like a robot most days, and not one that functioned well. It was especially odd after the apocalypse, when he wasn’t surrounded by computers all day, so the odd scent was even more noticeable, and much less desirable. Not that he thought much of dating anyway. He thought it’d be nice to be scented, though. For once to be surrounded by something he loved, but he knew never come close to scenting anyone else. Who would want to smell like a broken computer?

That changed when he was given Biyoo.

His sweet baby. Kim Dokja usually kept his fluffy bunny ears hidden, they looked out of place among the others in the company who had pinned back wolf or fox ears. He couldn’t help but have them out around Biyoo, who had her own tiny pair sitting on top of her fluffy hair. It was so adorable. Paternal instincts took over when he saw his baby, no matter the situation. Even in battle, if the baby just so let out a little whimper he’d drop his sword and rush to soothe her.

He cradled her tightly, smiling at the baby. She reached her little arms up, her big eyes looking at him. He leaned down and kissed her face until she giggled. He stroked her hair and thought to himself. The baby didn’t have a scent yet… should he…? But, who would hold the baby ever again after this. Would it be cursing her? Wouldn’t it be neglectful if he didn’t, parents always scented their newborns after all. He sighed, wondering what he should do.

Before he could make up his mind, the baby leaned up, surprising him as it clearly took a lot of strength. She grabbed his face and nuzzled her small cheek against his. He blinked in surprise, then almost burst into tears when he realised what was happening.

“My baby’s so cute…” he murmured, holding her tightly, nuzzling her back.

Can the smell of burnt wire become sweeter? It felt like it was now, like it was going from something burnt to something freshly baked out of the oven. Or well, a broken oven full of smoke. At least it was an improvement.

Biyoo yawned, leaning her small body onto him as she fell asleep again. He smiled, scratching behind her little ears.

After that incident, the others noticed him nuzzling her every morning. The more he did, it smelt a bit nicer each time. The burnt wire never left, and he never expected it to. But, it didn’t bother him as much, not once Biyoo shared it. And he couldn’t hate anything about his baby.

If she loved him, maybe he should love himself too?

At that thought, the air turned sweet.

Chapter Text

Shin Yoosung’s white fox tail fluffed up as she tried using it as a blanket. It was getting really cold. Her long ears flattened on her head and she shivered. That was until something wrapped around her like a blanket. She looked up and smiled to see Kim Dokja holding her close, covering her with his long coat. She huddled closer to him.

“Thank you ahjussi!” She said cheerfully, wanting to be praised for using good manners.

Kim Dokja ruffled her hair, then he sighed. “Yoosung, when was the last time you brushed your hair?”

“Uhm…”

“And you haven’t been grooming your tail.”

“I’m busy!”

He shook his head and picked the girl up. He noticed how she curled up her tail to look like a pom pom, and flattened her ears against her hair. She was trying to look like a bunny. How cute. The realisation revealed his own bunny ears and fluffy tail as he walked to borrow a hair brush from Yoo Sangah.

He placed the girl on his lap and worked through her hair. Despite how short it was, it was full of knots, and he tried his best to not hurt her. Of course, as dramatic as the girl was, she let out whines and complaints. It was enough to wake Biyoo up. She yawned and fluttered her little wings over to them. They looked a lot like her father’s, though he only had his out in emergencies. It was draining to have them out all the time, and only made him stand out more than he wanted to. The bunny features were already enough to make him look weak, now he had fluffy white wings on top of that.

It was surprising that Biyoo learnt flying as quick as she did, especially with how tiny her wings were. It made Kim Dokja panic each time, holding his arms out in case she fell, though she never did. She landed on top of his hair and played with his ears. He smiled, continuing to brush Shin Yoosung’s hair.

From the windows, Lee Gilyoung watched with a frown. He was so affectionate to his daughters… though that was common, wasn’t it? He wished the man would hug him just as much as he did to Shin Yoosung. She was even starting to smell like him, it wasn’t fair! His little insect wings beat in frustration, and his antenna drooped down. Unlike the others who had mammal features, Lee Gilyoung was partially a beetle. It definitely made others avoid him. He used to enjoy that, not wanting anyone to talk to him anyway, but that changed after meeting the reader.

He wanted to be just like him. He had the wings, but they weren’t as fluffy or kind looking. And his antenna could never hold the same resemblance as bunny ears. He was so jealous of Shin Yoosung. Some people even thought she was a little bunny at first glance, especially when she held Biyoo and stood next to Kim Dokja.

His wings fluttered faster as his thoughts ran on, and started sounding like a loud helicopter. Kim Dokja turned to the window, wondering what the sound was. The boy’s antenna sprang up in alert and he ducked down to hide into a bush. His scent was alike to dirt after it rained, so a few worms and bugs began crawling towards him. He smiled, welcoming them onto his hand.

He spent a while sitting there among the other bugs, wondering if they saw him as a giant bug father. It’d be nice, then he’d be just like Kim Dokja, adopting every little creature in his path.

Standing up from the bush with a stretch, he noticed the three were long gone from the room. It was staring to become dark, too, so he’d need to go to bed. He fluttered back to his room down the halls, scaring Han Sooyoung who almost tripped.

“Ugh I thought that was a giant fly… Gilyoung don’t fly indoors!”

He pouted, and settled on his soil covered feet. She could clean that up if she wouldn’t let him fly. The other members really didn’t like his insect qualities either… the other day he saw a fluffy white moth and wondered if he’d be cuter if he was that instead. Though, he didn’t want to be cuter, he liked being a beetle.

He arrived at his room sooner than he expected, and stared at it, wondering if he should go in. He couldn’t sleep, especially not all alone…

Without thinking he dashed down the hallway, and arrived at a familiar room. Kim Dokja’s. Taking a breath, he creaked open the door and peered inside. Biyoo was in her crib, and Kim Dokja was in his bed, surrounded by pillows and clothes and he stole from the others in the company. Lee Gilyoung smiled when he spotted his cap in the pile. He walked in the room, wanting to be there before Shin Yoosung invaded, and tip toed to the small bed.

The man was fast asleep, a rare sight considering he was always reading or researching late at night. It was good, at least. Lee Gilyoung crawled onto the bed but didn’t lay down just yet. He watched the older with his pitch black eyes, and hid away his insect features. His dirt scent became stronger, which made him panic a little. He looked back down and wondered…

Kim Dokja would only directly scent his baby, but Shin Yoosung and even Yoo Joonghyuk were beginning to smell more like him after spending so much time around him. Should he…?

Without thinking, he leaned closer, almost pressing his cheek against his.

Then, Kim Dokja’s eyes opened.

Lee Gilyoung yelped and almost fell off the bed when the man leaned up, blinking to adjust his eyes. He saw a small figure and relaxed.

“Gilyoung? Did you have a nightmare?”

He didn’t want to lie but was too embarrassed to admit that he was just lonely, so nodded. Kim Dokja gave him a kind small and lifted the blanket up.

“Alright, you can stay here for the night.”

He beamed and laid next to him immediately, but Kim Dokja didn’t lay down just yet. He stroked the boy’s hair.

“Where were you all day?” He murmured.

“Playing with dirt.”

He chuckled. “Of course.”

“But you were with Yoosung,” he pouted.

“How would you know that if you were playing with dirt?”

He froze.

Instead of getting mad at him like he expected, Kim Dokja merely had an amused smile.

“Are you fighting with Yoosung again?”

“No… but I’m mad at her!”

“Why?” He leaned on his hand, expecting a silly quarrel.

“You’re always hugging her and spending time with her…” he grumbled.

The older sat upright, and brought Lee Gilyoung into his arms who wasn’t expecting the gesture.

“It sounds like you’re mad at me, not her.”

“No I’m never mad at you!”

“Gilyoung… it’s okay if you are. I didn’t know it was upsetting you, but you told me you hated hugs.”

“I was lying!” He sighed like it was obvious and Kim Dokja should’ve known.

He smiled and stroked his hair, feeling all the twigs and rocks stuck in it, but didn’t feel the need to brush it out. Lee Gilyoung leaned into the touch.

“I wish I looked like you,” he mumbled, not knowing why he was admitting that.

“Looked like me?”

“Yoosung looks more like you… and Biyoo…”

“Oh, do you mean…?” He sighed, making the boy look at him. “You don’t need to look like me, I already love you no matter what, okay?”

He didn’t look convinced.

“And I like your cute little bug wings. You don’t need to hide them.”

“I’m not cute!” He complained.

Kim Dokja chuckled. “But I’m holding you the same way I hold Biyoo.”

He grumbled under his breath which only made Kim Dokja want to tease him more.

“You’re both my babies.”

He blinked. “…Do you really mean that?”

He gently smiled. “Of course I do. You and Yoosung both. Don’t frown when I say Yoosung as well! That wouldn’t fair if I didn’t include her.”

“Fine…”

He leaned closer to his chest, feeling sleepy. Then, he felt something soft. Kim Dokja was nuzzling against his cheek, the same way he did for Biyoo. Lee Gilyoung froze, not believing it. Did that mean he really did see him as his child? He tried his best to blink away tears, feeling embarrassed for crying over this. He covered his face in his chest instead.

Kim Dokja kissed the top of his hair, where his little antenna was peaking out again. He ran his hands softly across until the boy fell asleep.

The next morning, Kim Dokja tiredly fed Biyoo with a baby bottle as the kids loudly bickered over him.

“Why do you smell like ahjussi?! It’s not fair!” Shin Yoosung whined.

“It’s because he loves me more!” Lee Gilyoung stuck his tongue out at her.

“No he doesn’t!”

As the argument spurred on, Kim Dokja let out a sigh of relief when Biyoo was full. He took a few pats to burp her, then rested her on his lap. He grabbed the two kids in each arm, and pulled them close.

“I love both of you, okay?” He muttered tiredly.

They silently nodded, finally settling down. The two still glared at each other. Shin Yoosung hugged his arm and nuzzled her cheek against it. Lee Gilyoung gasped, offended, and began doing the same. Kim Dokja sighed. This was meant to be a bonding thing, not a competitive thing! Now he was going to smell like both the dirt and the snow. Biyoo giggled as the kids continued arguing.

Kim Dokja eventually gave up splitting them. The air became a mix of overwhelming scents, chaotic but also calming to the man. He smiled soon enough, and pulled the kids into a hug. Shin Yoosung’s fluffy tail wagged happily while Lee Gilyoung’s wings fluttered lightly.

Chapter Text

Yoo Joonghyuk never let anyone touch his ears. You’d be caught dead if you tried. In a flash he’d draw out his sword, no matter who it was. No one could get near him enough to accomplish it, anyway.

Besides his sister that was.

Yoo Mia cheerfully tugged on the pointed tips, looking intrigued as if she didn’t have her own pair on her head. Hers were much smaller and fluffy, however. Her older brother’s were pointy and stiff, usually pinned back. Despite his peeved expression, he was relaxed. Evident by his tail lazily rested on the ground instead of pointed up and spiky like it usually was. Yoo Mia’s tail happily wagged, a behaviour she picked up from Shin Yoosung.

The regressor sighed when he realised she was adding hair clips to his hair, though he couldn’t bring himself to stop her. Her legs swung from where she sat on his shoulders, still happily braiding his short hair.

He heard a snicker. He looked up and pointed a glare towards Han Sooyoung, that mischievous cat. Although she mostly kept her features hidden, except when she was around Yoo Sangah, the quiet mouse.

She walked over, reaching out to pet his hair, but a hand roughly grabbed her wrist.

“Aw come on Hyukie, I thought wolves loved head pats.”

His glare sharpened, and he pushed her away, immediately licking his hand clean after touching her. Her teasing smirk remained, relishing in how annoyed he had already gotten. She enjoyed this game of cat and dog- or well cat and wolf.

Yoo Mia, pleased with her work, hopped down and stood next to Han Sooyoung. She leaned over to nuzzle the woman’s arm. She was the only older female cat the child knew, so she took an extra liking to her. Han Sooyoung smiled and pulled her into a headlock, causing the girl to scream.

“That was your first mistake kid- never trust anyone who can easily throw you out of orbit.” She lifted the screaming child up.

“Sooyoung…” Yoo Joongyuk warned.

“Oh come on! You tease her way worse- didn’t you dangle her off a cliff yesterday?”

“It’s what brother’s do.”

Yoo Mia pouted, still trying to escape Han Sooyoung’s grasp. “One day I’ll grow so much bigger than you!”

Her brother rolled his eyes. “Good luck with that.”

“I already have sharper claws!” She lifted her hands and bared her fangs to express her point.

Han Sooyoung chuckled. “Your teeth are so tiny. How are you going to bite into any meat with those?”

Her point immediately backfired when the girl grabbed her tail and sunk her teeth in. She screamed and let go of the child, who landed perfectly on her feet. Yoo Joonghyuk had a small smile, as if proud.

The cat held onto her tail, which was already messy and matted enough. She shot a glare at the child, but it was only a playful one. Yoo Mia let out a high pitched meow in response, and rushed to hid behind her brother.

Han Sooyoung blinked in surprise. Did she hear that right?

“Mia, did you just meow?”

Yoo Joonghyuk froze. He put out his arm, trying to hide his sister from her gaze.

“You’ve misheard. She barked.”

“That was the weakest bark I’ve ever heard then!” Han Sooyoung complained.

The writer’s tail swished as she thought to herself. She fixed her gaze on Yoo Joonghyuk’s ears. Sure, they were strong and proudly standing on his hair but… she noticed how they’d move similar to her own ears at times, those rare times when Yoo Joonghyuk became a bit more emotive than he let himself. She also noticed how, despite his tail being bushy, it was much longer than a wolf’s. Her gaze shifted to Yoo Mia who was… loafing.

Han Sooyoung gasped.

“You guys are cats?!”

Yoo Mia let out a whine and she stood up to stomp her feet. “No! No I’m a scary wolf!”

She tried to stand tall and strong. Han Sooyoung shined a red dot from her phone. Yoo Mia’s pupils dilated enough to fill her entire eye, and she ran around trying to catch it.

“Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!” She repeated, each time she almost caught it.

Yoo Joonghyuk looked stressed, staring hard at the floor. To think… of all people to find out their secret, it was Han Sooyoung. He didn’t even want to see the smug look on her face.

“I can’t believe it…. Joonghyuk, the strongest warrior, is really just a cute little kitty cat.”

He glared at her, tail swishing dangerously.

She continued to cackle. “No wonder you always add fish to your meals! I don’t know how I didn’t see it before.”

“If you tell anyone…”

She waved her hand. “I won’t I won’t, don’t threaten me just yet. Well… I won’t on one condition,” she flashed a smile.

Yoo Joonghyuk sighed. He picked up his sister who grew tired from playing with the laser, placing her on his lap. He patted her hair and she perked up, nuzzling him, tail wagging. She really did act more dog-like than cat, though that might be from being surrounded by other canines in the company.

“What is it?” He asked, exasperated.

“I want to hear your meow.”

“I will kill you.”

“Come on! Just this once! I’ll meow for you as well-“

“I don’t want that,” he hissed.

He looked around, making sure no one else was spying on them. Most people in the company were terrible at hiding as they were part predator animals. But he didn’t take into account of the preys.

He sighed.

“…Meow,” he said in a gruff voice.

Han Sooyoung burst into laughter. “That wasn’t cute at all.”

His ears folded. “I wasn’t trying to be.”

The woman sighed, calming down from her laughing. “I can’t believe you’re not a wolf, though. Now your dynamic with your bunny boyfriend is less interesting.”

“He’s not my boyfriend,” he grumbled.

“Cats and rabbits could also go well, I guess,” she ignored him, continuing to think on it.

She was interrupted by Yoo Mia crawling between her arm to snuggle, purring as she did. Han Sooyoung for once had a soft smile instead of a teasing one, finding the girl too cute. She pressed her cheek against hers and Yoo Mia beamed, not having snuggled with anyone who wasn’t her brother so far.

“You know cats can be strong too, Mia,” she argued. “I can take down a wolf with just one claw.”

“I’ve never seen you do that,” Yoo Joonghyuk argued.

She rolled her eyes. “Well I can. Just point me to the wolf and I’ll beat them to pulp.”

“The only wolf we know is Jihye and I will beat you before you even touch her.”

“You’re so protective of your daughters.” She joked.

Yoo Mia hummed, curling up on the woman’s lap to sleep. Han Sooyoung continued talking to Yoo Joonghyuk, who pretended to be annoyed, but was tolerating the woman’s company just because she was entertaining him, but only a little.

From the bushes, Kim Dokja peeked at them with wide eyes.

Yoo Joonghyuk is a CAT?!

Chapter Text

Yoo Joonghyuk looked at Kim Dokja from the corner of his eye, whose face was stuck in a book. Nothing could get his attention.

Except…

Kim Dokja’s pupils dilated when a bundle of lettuce was dangled in front of him. He dropped the book and reached his hands up, his bunny ears fluffing up and appearing with a poof on top of his hair as the instincts kicked in. He pouted, trying to reach the vegetable but Yoo Joonghyuk kept it out of his grasp.

“I want it!” He complained.

“You need to expand your diet.”

“I’m a herbivore, you idiot.”

“One that refuses to eat tomatoes.”

He huffed. “Well I don’t see you eating every type of fish to ever exist.”

“If I was starving and had to eat something I didn’t like, I wouldn’t be fussy about it.”

“Says the person who only eats his own meals-!” He hopped up and grabbed the vegetable.

Successfully snatching it, the man crouched on the floor and utterly destroyed the lettuce. Yoo Joonghyuk watched, wondering how such aggressive eating could be so cute. Kim Dokja chomped the lettuce like he’d been starved for days. Once he was done, he looked up at the man as he if he was expecting more.

“Go find them on your own.”

“But I’m not good at gathering…” he complained, grabbing the taller’s arm. “Please? You’re my provider.”

Yoo Joonghyuk turned red. “Since when? We’re not a couple.”

“But you’re always feeding me and making sure I got to sleep,” he nuzzled the man’s arm, feeling safe from Yoo Joonghyuk’s scent. It was hard to pinpoint exactly what it was but it reminded Kim Dokja of a warm kitchen with herbs filling the air. Yoo Joonghyuk watched and couldn’t help but pet his fluffy hair, then paused when he realised what he was doing. He pushed him away, his cat ears raised up in frustration.

Lee Seolhwa, the artic wolf, walked by them and paused. “What’s burning…?” She murmured to herself, then she saw the two. “Oh.”

Kim Dokja’s ears were drooped on each side of his head, and he excreted his usual burnt wire smell but even stronger. Yoo Joonghyuk had a heavy frowned and smelt like a burnt down kitchen. She decided to let them be, not wanting to get involved in whatever was occurring. The taller glanced back to Kim Dokja, and felt a bit bad. Why did his sad ears have to be so adorable? He sighed and held out a handful of berries from his pocket (that he kept for no reason whatsoever.) Kim Dokja’s ears perked up and he happily munched them. Yoo Joonghyuk held back a scowl and decided not to scold him for eating from his hand.

“Nom nom nom,” he murmured with each bite.

Yoo Joonghyuk wanted to throw him off another bridge. Or cuddle him. Maybe both.

Once he was done, he happily licked his lips and smiled at the regressor. “Thank you Joonghyuk-ah.”

He tsunderely rolled his eyes, pulling his hand away. “You don’t eat enough…” he grumbled as an excuse.

Kim Dokja finished his last berry and frowned again. He wasn’t hungry but he wanted to bite something. He was banned from carrots after going crazy with a sugar rush last time he had one. His eyes landed on Yoo Joonghyuk.

“Don’t try to tell me you’re full at lunch I won’t believe you-“ he began, then he froze.

Slowly, he looked down. Kim Dokja was gently biting his fluffy tail. He was too confused to be mad.

“What’s gotten into you?” He huffed but didn’t push him away.

Kim Dokja just stood close to him, still nibbling his tail.

“Have you gone bunny brained? Are you going to start hopping around and sleeping on the floor next?”

His silence made Yoo Joonghyuk worry a bit. They couldn’t have a leader that acted like an innocent bunny, how would they get anything done? Even worse, it’d get the man killed off easily. His worry left when he saw Kim Dokja’s very slight smirk. He finally pushed him away.

“Brat…”

Kim Dokja chuckled. “You let me get away with that much longer than I thought you would. What a nice kitty,” he teased.

Yoo Joonghyuk looked like he wanted to murder him. Though, his tail was relaxed. He grabbed the man by the collar and walked forward.

“You need to exercise more. Come train with me.”

“What- what why?!” Kim Dokja thumped in protest but it did nothing.

He sighed, and decided to follow, just because he wanted to spend more time with the cat.

Chapter Text

Lee Sookyung held the soft baby blanket to her chest, gently rocking the little bundle back and forth. The room was silent and she was on the verge of losing her mind if she stayed alone any longer. Though she didn’t really have anyone else to talk to.

The bundle squirmed and baby coos filled the air.

Well, she wasn’t entirely alone.

She looked down and pulled the edge of the blanket away, just to see her little boy’s face. His eyes peeked open, and looked like they held galaxies.

“Baa.” He called out.

“Yes yes I’m here,” she said gently, leaning down to kiss his forehead.

She pushed his fluffy black hair, trying to see if a hint of his ears appeared yet, but there was nothing. It was odd, usually babies would have their features appearing by now, especially popping up when they were emotional. It made her a bit worried, and anxious. She was a bunny and her husband was a wolf, so the chances of their baby either being a bunny or a wolf were 50. Her husband wanted their child to be a strong, independent wolf which made her hope he’d turn out that way, otherwise he’d never accept the boy.

She sighed, almost falling asleep on the chair. She felt something tugging her ear and flinched. She hated her ears being touched, especially so violently and painfully grabbed when-

Though that’s not what was happening now. Kim Dokja was admiring her fluffy, long ears, a look of awe in his eyes. She smiled, and tried to teach him how to gently pet. She was surprised at how fast of a learner the boy was, immediately going from grabbing and pulling, to softly patting his tiny hand on the ear. Though, he still grabbed a strand of her hair and tried to eat it.

She chuckled. “Why must you bite everything?”

As a retaliation, she gently nipped the small curl sticking out from his head. His eyes widened in shock. He’s never experienced such disrespect in his 2 months of being alive.

She smiled and kissed the top of his hair a couple of times. The baby happily squealed, and grabbed her soft hand to nuzzle his face against. Her broken heart was going to melt at this rate.

As she kissed his head, she felt an odd bump. She paused and moved away, despite the baby’s noise of complaint, then gently pushed a few strands of his hair to inspect it. Her eyes widened.

On top of his hair were two, very small and fluffy ears. She blinked in surprise and looked closer to identify them. She’s never seen such round wolf ears… unless…

She lifted him in the air and saw it- a fluffy pom pom tail. The baby giggled while she stared at him with watery eyes.

He was a bunny, like her.

A part of her was anxious, no one really took bunnies seriously, always walking all over them and bullying them for being so weak. Her poor child, this was all her fault.

Kim Dokja frowned at her expression and reached his small hand out to wipe away some tears. She looked at him with a broken frown. It hurt the baby so much he leaned over and nuzzled her as lovingly as he could, babbling something that could mean “please don’t be sad.”

She hugged him tightly but it couldn’t chase away the ache and anxiety in chest. For now, she put on a soft smile, just to ease her baby. His ears raised up happily at the sight, it was so adorable. A part of her felt happy that he shared the same qualities as her, though he would’ve been adorable either way. Of course he would’ve, he was her baby.

She held him tightly and nuzzled him, her scent of something that resembled burnt paper passing to him. It usually drove people away, but his little hands tightly grabbed her, not wanting to let go.

“Mama.”
