Bearer of Bad Woes

Summary:

Enid isn't answering her mother's calls. Wednesday tells Esther the truth.

Work Text:

"Why isn't that colorful little furball answering her phone?"

Esther Sinclair was trying really hard to get a hold of her daughter, Enid ever since she saw the news that Nevermore Academy had closed down again. Enid usually had her phone with her at all times, so when the third call went unanswered, Esther immediately knew something was wrong.

"I've been trying to call her for the past five minutes!"

Murray Sinclair walked up behind his wife and asked, "Do you think something happened to her?"

"I don't know what's going on at that school anymore, Murray! Last year, we almost lost Enid to a Hyde, and now I just found out that their new principal is dead!"

"What?"

"Yeah, I read it online this morning. Turns out he was a con artist trying to steal everyone's money."

"Huh."

"But that's not the point. I'm just trying to make sure Enid's okay." Esther hit the call button once again. "Contrary to what some people out there might think, I do care about Enid's safety and well-being."

Meanwhile, at Ophelia Hall...

Wednesday, Agnes, and Thing were having one last conversation before Wednesday headed out to find Enid.

Enid's cell phone started ringing again. It had been ringing almost nonstop for the past few minutes.

Wednesday looked at the phone with disdain. "Her parents are calling again."

"How do we tell them?" Agnes asked, giving Wednesday a worried look.

Wednesday wasn't exactly fond of Enid's mother, though Enid said she was mellowing out since the events of last year.

No matter. Enid's parents needed to know the truth, and if Wednesday was going to be the one to tell them, then so be it.

Wednesday picked up the phone and answered, "Hello."

This was a video call, so Esther could clearly see that this was not Enid.

"Hey, you're not Enid!" Esther said. "You're Wednesday!"

"Enid told us a lot about you over the summer," Murray piped up, "You were all she could talk about."

"Where is Enid? Is she alright?" Esther asked.

"Enid is currently wolfed out and in hiding."

Esther became confused as she said, "Wolfed out? That can't be right. The full moon was last night, she should be back to normal."

"She wasn't able to change back." Agnes solemnly stated.

Esther and Murray became shocked at this news.

"Oh no," Esther said. "Do you know what this means, Murray?"

"That Enid's lost somewhere and we need to find her ASAP?" Murray replied worriedly.

"Yes, but it also means she's an alpha! They say if a young alpha wolfs out during a full moon, there's a huge chance they won't be able to change back!"

At this point, Esther fully understood the situation Enid was in as she said, "Oh God, Enid's out there all by herself!" Her voice cracked as tears welled up in her eyes.

"Not for long," Wednesday said. "I'm on my way to track her down."

"Oh, please find her, Wednesday!" Esther begged, tears rolling down her cheeks. "You have to find Enid and bring her back!"

"Don't worry Mrs. Sinclair. We will find her!" Agnes said.

"Call us back when you do, keep us updated!"

Wednesday nodded and ended the call, leaving Enid's parents in sorrow.

"Oh, Enid," Esther whimpered as she started crying. "My sweet pup..."

Esther and Murray shared a hug, with Murray getting teary-eyed as well. "They'll find her, right?" Esther asked.

"I... I don't know, Esther." Murray answered. "But we have to trust Wednesday."

Esther hated to admit it, but Murray was right. Esther may not have been fond of Wednesday, or the Addams Family in general, but she also knew that Wednesday might be the only one to get Enid to change back.

"Okay," Esther said. "We... We can trust her."

All they could do now was hope and pray that Wednesday would be able to find Enid quickly.
