Work Text:
“You know, this is kinda fun.”
Wednesday didn’t bother looking his way, her focus was on the book in front of her. “You clearly have unorthodox interests, usually I would find that appealing but this is a rather mundane activity.”
Tyler was careful to keep the smirk off his lips. She was relaxed, not wound up or tense or on alert. Coincidentally, she was also not paying attention, which he used to his advantage.
“No. I mean it. It’s nice.”
“You’re easily amused,” Wednesday said, then ordered Thing to turn the page. The disembodied hand seemed to pout, or at least that’s the impression Tyler got, but obeyed her anyway.
Today was a bit different. On this rainy afternoon, the three of them were in Wednesday's dorm -Enid was out somewhere, his girlfriend hadn’t bothered to listen as to where she’d gone. Wednesday’s nail polish was starting to chip, but instead of letting her do it herself, Tyler offered to do it for her.
He didn’t know why. He just kind of wanted a try. Surprisingly, she let him, while forcing Thing to keep a book open for her and flip the pages even though her other hand was completely free. At first, he had the intention of just applying a coat or two of the black nail polish, but then an idea struck.
He just had to be quick about it.
“How long have you painted your nails?” He asked.
“Since I was six. Why?”
He shrugged. “Just making conversation.”
“Don’t bother.”
Tyler ignored her, continuing. “I’ve seen Thing do his nails with Enid, did you ever do something like that with him?”
“Of course not. I had better things to do with my time.”
Thing let go of her book, leaving Wednesday disgruntled. That’s not true. She used to paint mine all the time.
“Silence before I break your digits!" She snapped. Tyler smiled widely.
“Wednesday, that’s really cute.”
He was curious about her younger years and soaked up any information he could.
“You know very well what I’m capable of,” Wednesday whispered dangerously to Thing. “It wouldn’t bode well for you if you kept up this disobedience.”
Thing seemed to contemplate this. But no sooner than five seconds later did he turn to Tyler. She used to tuck me in bed with her at night along with her dolls.
Wednesday’s eyes grew big. Tyler’s heart was melting. That was so precious to imagine.
But she didn’t think so.
His girlfriend was on her feet instantly, knee bumping her desk. Tyler tried grabbing her hand back so she wouldn’t mess up all his hard work. “Whoa, hey!”
“I’m going to make you regret your whole....” Wednesday trailed off once she caught a glimpse of her hand.
Tyler grinned, whistling innocently and shoving his hands in his jean pockets.
“Tyler.”
“Hmm?” He said casually.
“What is this?” Her face had hardened, and he knew death was almost certain at this point.
Not that it scared him, oh no. It enthralled him.
“I just thought you’d like a little something different,” he said. “Do you like it?”
He drew a small picture on nearly every finger; a smiley face, a flower, a little snake and a heart.
Wednesday’s jaw ticked.
If anyone happened to walk by Wednesday’s dormitory, they would have seen him hanging over the railing upside down. He wasn’t unconscious- no, she wanted to see how he’d take it until all the blood was nearly down at his head.
And if those people who happened to walk by panicked, it was completely unnecessary. Tyler just knew there’d be a killer makeout session later.
