Dare You To Doubt Me

Summary:

This would be a hefty conversation. When he was done undressing for the heated atmosphere a house provided from the cold, Steve went past him to lead the way to the living room. Eddie stopped, though, not wanting to sit down. That would be too comfortable and even more awkward for him at the same time to sit down right away. No, he wanted to do this standing for a bit.

“I’m ready to talk now,” Eddie stated. “I know I said 2 days, but what can I say? Your speech inspired me…and my uncle gave a helpful shove out the door too.”

Steve gave a soft smile.

Inhaling deeply, Eddie straightened his shoulders to begin, but Steve got there first.

Part 6 in Dare To Love Me series

Notes:

I kept my promise that I'd have this done this month. I've been busy market prepping my crochet inventory for an event that I'm doing next month (4 weeks until it's time for that), and then I was sick for a few days this past weekend. Lots of fun.

Anyways, I won't delay you all for long since you have been waiting for this chapter since the end of Part 4 of this series. Time for these two to talk and make up. ;) ;)

This fic is not beta'd, every mistake is my own.

The title of this fic is the song: Dare You To Doubt Me by The Script

Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

What the hell was he thinking?

He’d parked on the curb, rather than in the driveway, and lit up a cigarette to have before he took back his 2 days he’d told Steve hours ago. The good news was that there weren’t any unfamiliar cars in the driveway, but the bad news was that Steve’s wasn’t outside. There were a lot of lights on in the house, which either meant that Steve still had his parents home—the cars were probably in the two car garage—or that Steve really didn’t care about the electric bill in a large place.

Eddie tapped his free hand that wasn’t holding the cigarette against the steering wheel. He could do this. He had to find out if Steve really meant everything he said and was worth the heartache. With a final puff, he shut the van off and got out, stamping the cigarette on the slushy ground, then he nervously walked the length of the driveway to the front door. Watching his breathing come out in misty clouds, Eddie prolonged the inevitable for a good five breaths and rang the doorbell.

Please don’t be Steve’s parents.

The door opened, showing that it was just Steve that had answered and looked shocked to see him.

“Eddie?” Steve asked.

Eddie nodded and came right in and out of the cold. He should’ve asked to come in or if it was safe to enter, but he just wanted to get some warmth back inside him from the Indiana winter. The door shut behind him.

“They aren’t here,” Steve assured, seeing Eddie glancing towards the end of the foyer.

Relieved at hearing that, Eddie began to remove his gloves, coat, and boots because he intended on being there for longer than a few minutes.

“I’m sorry, Eddie. I really didn’t mean to hurt you. When my parents are here, I kind of don’t think and just go back to trying to always be the son that they want or think I am. That sort of fell into worrying about what they would say about you,” Steve said.

“Because of my last name,” Eddie provided.

He could see by Steve’s expression that that was definitely the case. It wasn’t like he hadn’t heard that before, or that he wasn’t used to people judging him because his dad was Al Munson. It didn’t help either that he fueled some of that by getting into trouble by doing some of the shit that his dad taught him or did around him. However, all in all, Eddie knew he wasn’t like his dad. Wayne was a big influence, but his uncle had told him on multiple occasions that Eddie was more like his late mom than anyone else. Free spirited, and not in the bad way that the town sees Eddie.

“My mom remembered your dad when you left,” Steve continued.

Oh no. That expression was worse.

“She told me to stay away from you and my dad overhead. I told them that I couldn’t stay away from you because of the project. They threatened to call the school to reassign, but since the project wasn’t real, I had to tell them that. It ended up in a huge argument where they found out that we were actually friends and you were coming over to hang out…and that you invited me to Thanksgiving and to Christmas,” Steve deflated the more he spoke. “They weren’t happy about that.”

Eddie frowned. “Why would they be mad that someone invited you to spend the holidays with them? That’s a nice gesture.”

Steve shook his head. “To them, it was like spitting in their face. They are never here.” He looked around the house. “When I was a kid, I had a live-in Nanny that watched over me and taught me how to take care of myself. Apparently, I got too attached to her and my parents fired her because she was more of a parent to me than they were. After that, I was left alone. They’d come home every now and then for the occasional holiday, always forgetting to call ahead of time to tell me their plans. Always acting like I should’ve known they were coming to spend time with their child, when really it was just to make a business partner think they were the perfect family. So, being invited to the one house in Hawkins, to the son of the man that they remembered very well from High School, they thought that I was seeking attention and not grateful for what they’d given me.”

That was really shitty. It was like peeking behind the curtain to the Great and Powerful Oz, only to find out that Steve’s life wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Steve had had it just as bad as Eddie had. Sure, with a change of other details, but the underlying theme was the same.

“I didn’t even go on the trip they’d come home to get me for,” Steve added.

Steve had been home that whole time? Eddie had been within reach of Steve, who could have still come to his door for Christmas or even New Years, but he had given Eddie space because he’d hurt Eddie…That hurt his heart more than the words Steve had said to his mom in front of him. No one should have to spend the holidays alone.

“Frankly, I don’t think that it really was the kind of vacation they made it sound it to be. It was probably only a ‘vacation’ to bring me as their token son to try and show off to their partners, or get me ready for whenever I graduate to join the family business. I don’t even want the family business. It all seems so superficial and not important, especially after last year and what happened in November,” Steve huffed.

“Wait, what happened last year and in November? Does it involve how you were beaten up?” Eddie asked.

His question seemed to freeze Steve. He watched as Steve realized what he had said, then Steve put his face in one hand as he popped his hip. Eddie could practically hear the cogs working in Steve’s brain to figure out how to respond or some other internal battle. Whatever it was, it was a doozy. Stepping closer to Steve, Eddie tilted his head and dipped it down to try and catch Steve’s eyes. He gave a small smile, when it worked, and Steve let his hand drop to look back at Eddie.

“Hey, I’m all ears. Okay? No judgement. I’m here to talk and understand,” Eddie assured.

“I’m not supposed to talk about it. Besides, I doubt that you’d believe me, even if I told you,” Steve replied.

Oh, ho, ho. A challenge.

Narrowing his eyes, he hardened his expression and straightened his body as he placed his hands on Steve’s shoulders.

“I dare you to doubt me.”

Steve raised his brows.

Eddie grinned wide and nodded because yes…he so totally dared Steve, right now. Based on their running history, since Halloween, it would be very rude to not take up the dare and brush it off. Not once in their dares have they backed out from the challenge of it all, becoming something more treasured than a silly game.

“We should probably sit down,” Steve sighed.

“That bad?” Eddie chuckled.

The laugh and grin wiped off his face at how Steve winced and looked fucking haunted. Shit, it was that bad. Slowly, he walked with Steve to the couch and sat down beside him. Turning to face him, Eddie flicked his eyes down to see Steve reaching for his hands to hold between their laps.

Oh god. Sitting down? Serious expression? Holding hands for comfort? This was more than just bad.

“Remember when Will Byers went missing?” Steve asked.

He frowned. Wait, this was about that?

“Yeah…” he drew out.

“Well, that’s when it all started.”

Eddie sat there and listened to Steve explain monsters that they’d borrowed names from D&D to use to keep track of the creatures better: Demogorgon’s, but they had no faces; instead, they had petals like a flower for their overall mouths and shit. The mention of how Will’s body that had been found and it being a fake was wild. It was all a setup by Hawkins Lab, who were doing experiments on superpowered kids, using the electricity building as a cover, but things got out. Steve mentioned how that correlated to the huge news breaking this recent November with Barb’s death being swept under the rug…But that had been some kind of a gas leak or something, right? Not monsters from another dimension?

Apparently not.

As Steve continued about a girl named Eleven—El for short, but now her name was Jane and she Hopper’s adopted daughter—and that things didn’t stop like they’d thought they did, running into Demodog’s this time around and a Mindflayer that took over Will, Eddie’s head felt like it was spinning. He even learned about the Billy altercation on top of that, answering Steve’s face debacle that everyone had wondered about. Then, Steve brought up how he had freaked out about the wind against the side of the trailer during Thanksgiving at Eddie’s before going into the now with the lights all being on in the house.

“I can’t really sleep with them off. Every noise makes me tense. I don’t use my pool anymore because that’s where Barb disappeared and died, and I keep a nail bat with me in my trunk and I made another one to go under my bed, so that I have one in the house,” Steve exhaled. “Even with the lights on, I still have trouble sleeping. I never liked being alone in this house anyways, but now I really don’t like it. But yeah…that’s everything that I’m technically not allowed to talk about because I’ve signed NDA’s, but I want to be honest with you and you wanted to know.”

That he did.

Eddie idly worked his teeth on the inside of his mouth, just under his bottom lip, and he even shifted to the meatier part of his cheek as he digested what he’d heard. No wonder Steve had said that he doubted that Eddie would believe him. It all seemed pretty fantastical, and if he hadn’t hung out with Steve for pretty much an entire month he might have called bullshit. Then again, it was Steve’s eyes that told a deeper story than the words. He’d seen some great movies, but there was no acting coming from Steve.

“I told you that you wouldn’t believe me,” Steve said, taking Eddie’s silence for disbelief.

Tightening his hands in Steve’s, Eddie shook his head and furrowed his brows. “Hey, no. That’s not it. I’m just—Shit, Steve. No wonder you changed that year. You said that certain things seem superficial now, and I mean who wouldn’t think that after what you and the others have been through. I believe you, but you also have to give me some credit to be silent after hearing that monsters exist and in Hawkins of all places.”

The way that Steve’s face morphed through confusion and his own disbelief at how Eddie responded broke Eddie’s heart. Steve really had prepared for Eddie to yell at him and tell him he was crazy or saying bullshit?

“How are you okay with this?” Steve asked. “You just accept that what I said was the truth?”

“Steve…I’m looking right at you. You wear your heart on your face, and, besides, I’m the resident Freak here. This kind of stuff is my bread and butter as a DM. My favorite genre to read is fantasy, and I play a game called Dungeons & Dragons. The fact that you of all people explicitly mentioned that the monsters you told me about was named after a Demogorgon and a Mindflayer by kids that also play and needed a way to reference it…” Eddie shook his head. “If I wasn’t nervous about the monster aspect, I would find that pretty hot that you even know those names.”

Steve snorted. “You really are a Freak.”

He could tell it was playful, the way that Steve said it, so it didn’t hurt.

“So are you,” Eddie smirked.

They held eye contact for a bit, then slowly let go of each other’s hands. Steve sighed and ran his hand through his hair.

“Now you know everything. More than what I was going to talk about,” Steve said.

Eddie scooted closer and cupped Steve’s cheek. “Thank you for explaining, and for trusting me with your NDA secret. I promise that I won’t tell, lest I have the wrath of the government come knocking at my door or some shit. And I’m sorry that you had a fight with your parents about me…You missed a really good Christmas dinner that I planned and made for you.” He licked his lips and squinted. “You could have still come over. I would have been mad, sure, but it also hurt when you never showed up. I thought you were on that trip that whole time, not…sadly moping around in this museum all alone.”

He frowned and smoothed his thumb under the bags of Steve’s eyes that he hadn’t noticed were there until now. Poor thing really hadn’t gotten any sleep. Monsters, parents, and Eddie, oh my.

“You made me a dinner?” Steve breathed softly.

Chuckling, Eddie nodded.

He wasn’t expecting Steve to shift on the couch and sling a leg over to straddle Eddie’s lap. Eddie leaned back and stared up at Steve with his hands not knowing where to rest before they went to the tops of Steve’s thighs.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t get to eat all of the effort,” the apology came, then Steve continued with an admission that shook Eddie to the core. “I did make it to the entrance of the trailer park that night…I sat there for almost an hour, then I left before someone could notice and call the cops on me. I wanted to come over and explain, but I didn’t know what to say and I knew that me not having an answer or the right words would have made things worse. You already got upset when I didn’t have answer for the kiss.”

“Oh Steve,” Eddie groaned and closed his eyes.

They had both fucked up.

“I never wanted to make you feel like you can’t approach me, when you don’t know anything. I myself don’t know much, and…” He opened his eyes. “I would have been over the moon if you hadn’t turned your car around and had actually made it to the door.”

“Yeah?”

Eddie nodded, smoothing his hands up to Steve’s waist to give a light squeeze of assurance. “Yeah.”

Steve’s expression softened, and he cupped Eddie’s face now.

“I have a lot to make up for, which is why I did what you told me to do and thought of a good first date for us,” Steve said. “But we are going in two days. I’m adhering to my deadline.”

Rolling his eyes, Eddie smirked because it was ridiculous to wait that long, now that they’ve spoken to each other, but he could admire Steve wanting to follow Eddie’s rules.

“I’m looking forward to it, but, you know, you could always start making it up to me now. Before our date. I don’t really want to wait again, not after we lost that time,” Eddie replied.

Steve leaned forward, until he was really sitting down on Eddie’s lap. Eddies eyes widened at how flush together they were in this position. It wasn’t anything like what they’d been doing prior with the humping in the drama room or wherever else at school they hung out during lunch. That had all been either standing or laying down…but sitting like this…with his cock pressed against Steve’s ass, it was way more of an experience.

“I think I can do that,” Steve whispered and kissed Eddie.

Fluttering his eyes shut, Eddie willingly accepted the kiss with Steve. Was he really kissing Steve in Steve’s house…on Steve’s couch? He’d had fantasies about this. Okay, it wasn’t so much the couch that he’d fantasized about being on, but it was close enough. Eddie’s hands went to Steve’s hips and up his back to hug him closer as he angled his head to deepen the kiss. Their tongues brushed together, and they both let out a sigh of contentment.

It’d been too damn long since they last kissed.

Eddie gasped, feeling hands go to his belt to undo them. He broke the kiss and blinked rapidly as he looked down between them.

“What are you doing?” Eddie asked.

“Lost time, right?” Steve breathed, slowly sliding off of Eddie’s lap and between his legs.

He watched with wide eyes, not sure what to do or how to react. Steve was literally on his knees for him and undoing Eddie’s pants. When the belt was free, and Steve’s hands got the button popped, about to go to the zipper next, Eddie’s hands fumbled to hold onto Steve’s to stop.

“Are you sure? This is pretty big, Steve,” Eddie said.

“Yeah, I know, I can feel it through your pants,” Steve smirked.

Eddie scoffed and rolled his eyes with a chuckle. “No, I mean, this is a big step. We’ve only kissed and humped each other. This…This is next level. It’s someone else’s cock. Mine.”

They held eye contact for a bit, but Eddie didn’t see an ‘oh shit’ moment like he was expecting. Instead, Steve just grew more determined.

“I’ve had all of Christmas, New Year’s, and in between to think about this, Eds. I even bought a dildo to practice and get familiar with something other than me. That’s how sure I am about this,” Steve replied.

“Excuse me?” he asked, not sure he heard that right. “You got a dildo to practice? How so?”

Steve grinned. “Let me show you.”

Eddie’s hands slipped away from Steve’s to let him continue with the zipper. He nervously lifted his hips, when Steve tugged the jeans down underneath Eddie’s ass, and felt himself get hard at the thought that it was just his boxers that were between him being exposed to Steve fucking Harrington. This was unreal. This was ludicrous. This was—

Steve reached into the fly of the boxers to grab hold of Eddie, making him moan at the contact before he was removed and in full sight. Eddie licked his lips, then he bit his bottom lip at the way Steve stared at his cock in wonder.

“Different than a dildo, huh?” Eddie teased breathily.

Nodding, Steve began to stroke and squeeze, getting a feel for familiar—yet unfamiliar—equipment. Eddie twitched in Steve’s hand, and he reached for Steve’s hand to remove it, only to lean forward and spit into Steve’s palm.

“Needs more glide. Kind of dry, Stevie.”

“Sorry,” Steve blushed.

Fuck. How was Steve so cute and sexy at the same time?

Eddie let go of Steve’s hand to let him further show Eddie what he’d been practicing. Honestly? One would’ve thought that Steve had been cramming in knowledge for a test with how amazingly Steve slowly jerked Eddie off.

“Oh fuck,” Eddie gasped and let his head fall back on the couch before he rolled it to the left to still watch Steve. “You’re good at this.”

“Thanks,” Steve smiled. “But I hope that I’m better at this.”

He wasn’t prepared for Steve to lean forward and wrap his mouth around Eddie’s cock. The loudest, most pathetic moan that Eddie thought he’d ever mustered just ripped out of him in the large home. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t so bad that Steve lived alone because the acoustics…They were definitely worth the lack of people and sheer coziness a normal house with stuff would provide. Not that Eddie didn’t think that Steve deserved better, but…damn…Yeah. Acoustics.

Eddie reached a hand out to thread through Steve’s hair, letting him know with a small scratch of appreciation to the scalp that he loved it. That is, if Steve didn’t already know from the sounds that Eddie was currently making.

Steve lowered his head and began to bob up and down. What was even hotter than the feel and the sight was knowing that Eddie had his own spit to help the glide that was now assisting Steve’s mouth as it moved; mingling with his own saliva. Then, Steve took him into his throat, and Eddie’s legs shook, bouncing on the balls of his socked feet on the plush carpet.

“Shit, fuck. Steve,” he whined, staring wide eyed at Steve holding himself in Eddie’s pubes.

The swallowing and measured breathing drove him near insane, but the gagging had him hurriedly pulling Steve off in time for him to cum all over that pretty face. Eddie shuddered and arched his back as his cock twitched with each spurt of his hasty orgasm…Technically, his first orgasm from his first blowjob and first handjob ever.

When his body settled down, Eddie hummed and slowed his breathing, lazily rolling his eyes to find Steve again. Locking eyes with the man that seemed determined to give Eddie his firsts in everything, Eddie slowly smiled and chuckled to match Steve’s awestricken face that morphed into a giant grin.

“Considering that was my first time, I can say that you are definitely better than you think,” Eddie breathed. “Jesus.”

Steve laughed in amusement, then made a face at the cum all over him. “Glad to know that my skills with my mouth transfer between genitals, but you didn’t have to pull me off.”

Eddie frowned. “You…You would have—You’re telling me that you would have swallowed?”

“I would have tried,” Steve said, folding his arms.

“If I wasn’t so spent, I would be hard again. Give me a bit and I’ll give you another chance,” he smirked.

Steve shook his head, getting onto his feet. “We have plenty of opportunities to try everything we want. For now, I kind of want to clean up, order in some food, and cuddle with the guy that I just made up with.”

His eyes flicked to the hand that Steve held out…the one that had just been on his dick a moment ago. Eddie sighed, knowing that Steve was right. Taking Steve’s hand, he let himself be pulled upright, then Eddie looked down at his dick still being out. Right. Clean up.

“Shower or good ol’ fashioned sink and towel?” Eddie asked.

“I don’t know, we’ll see when we get there,” Steve winked and tugged Eddie with him towards the guest bathroom.
