Work Text:
“Hey, Aigis?”
The robot stopped in the middle of the hallway, unperturbed to the other students shuffling past her as she turned to see her teammate, Yukari, striding towards her.
“Is there something of assistance you require?” Aigis asked in her monotone voice.
“No, I came over to give something to you,” Yukari sighed. She reached into her pocket and presented a plain envelope that, upon closer examination, contained a few creases and smudge marks littered across it from repeated hassle.
“Thank you for the gift,” Aigis droned as she took it.
Yukari huffed, “it’s not from me. Some random guy gave me it and he wanted me to pass it over to you, as if I’m just some messenger. It’s probably some dumb love letter or something.” Privately she thought, “and something that Stupei would probably write.”
“What is a ‘love letter’?”
“It’s something that guys give to ask you out on a date when they’re too cowardly to say it to you themselves.”
Aigis tilted her head, still not quite processing the concept, but Yukari was already walking past her towards the club rooms.
“I have practice right now so I gotta go, just throw it out or something!” Yukari called before disappearing around a corner. Aigis continued standing as still as a statue, the envelope held securely in both hands as she continued examining it. Despite Yukari’s words, she opened it without making a single tear and analyzed the messily written characters.
Dear Aigis,
Firstly, welcome to the school! Moving here must’ve been super stressful but you’re always so nonchalant about everything which is really cool. Every part about you is so cool like your headphones and your beautiful eyes that remind me of the ocean sapphires. Honestly its why I havent been able to come up and talk to you which is why im writing this to you, and I wanted to ask if you wanted to go on a (a word harshly scribbled out) —trip somewhere in town. I’ll be waiting by the gates after school if you do, I’m wearing a red hat and blue sneakers.
Hope to see you there,
Eito
Right after she read it, she swiveled around and marched directly to the front entrance of the school.

He glanced at the entrance for probably the hundredth time, trying to spot a certain person amidst the sea of other students bustling out of the school. He made sure that the spot he was waiting in could be seen easily when you exited the doors, as well as being the perfect amount of secluded but not too secluded that other people think that you’re one of those loners with a nonexistent social life; he even put on his old baseball cap so he didn’t get lost in the crowd. Point is, he had tried planning for every little thing (even if his friends had teased him a lot for it).
But after about ten minutes of waiting, she still hadn’t come—which was fine! It was totally a-okay! Maybe she has an afterschool club or she didn’t get his letters or she’s still hanging out with some other friends or whatever else that could be going on. Or, well, she just didn’t wanna go on a date hang out with him—which makes perfect sense cause he is a random guy she doesn’t even know—
“Hello.”
He screamed and fell forward. Behind him, Aigis passively watched as he bumbled to stand back up and pretend that his voice didn’t just crack.
“H-Hi Aigis!” He hurriedly replied, brushing off dirt from his uniform. “I-It’s nice to meet you!”
“Are you the ‘Eito’ with the red hat and blue sneakers that sent me this letter?”
“H-huh? Oh, yeah, that’s me! Haha…” Eito stuck his hand forward for a handshake (‘because people still introduced themselves like that, right?’), but Aigis just stared at him with those deep blue eyes.
.
.
.
“So!” Eito pretended his outstretched hand was actually mean’t to rub the back of his head. “Did you, uh, want to hangout? Or did you just want to tell me you weren’t interested—in hanging out I mean—cause that’s fine too!”
“Where would we go?” Aigis asked tonelessly.
“You can decide if you want, is there somewhere you like visiting?”
“There is indeed an area I frequent often. Do you wish to accompany me?”
“Yes! I-i mean yeah, sure.”
Fireworks went off in Eito’s head and his whole body felt giddy with excitement. Aigis silently led them over to Paulownia Mall, but he didn’t care that she was quiet because he was too busy celebrating actually hanging out with a real human girl over and over in his head. Maybe she’ll like him enough that they can keep meeting up after this until (much later down the line) he could actually ask her out for real! His heart beat a little faster at that thought.
Eventually they entered the mall, and he couldn’t help but wonder which place she would take him too. Maybe somewhere lowkey like the cafe, maybe that odd antique shop that opened recently, the arcade even? Or maybe—
…t-the police station?
Eito paused outside the door.
“Is she trying to get me arrested?!”
Aigis, already inside, turned back to him, “is something wrong?”
“N-no!” Eito squeaked and hesitantly entered alongside her. He hasn’t ever been inside of it before (because what normal high schooler would need to?) and he defiantly didn’t understand why Aigis of all people would come here often unless it was because…she was actually doing something criminal…
Eito began questioning his taste in girls.
“We have arrived,” Aigis announced monotonly.
“Very…homely…” Eito murmured.
The officer behind the counter glanced up from his laptop with an annoyed expression.
“Do you kids need something?”
“I-I don’t think so??”
“Nothing today,” Aigis answered. The cop grunted and went back to whatever he was working on. Aigis just looked at Eito like she was waiting for him to say something, and he scrambled to come up with any conversation topic.
“Sooo…w-what do you…do here?”
“We buy lethal weapons and new parts to upgrade myself so that I may effectively eliminate shadows.”
Eito blinked a few times. In the background Officer Kurosawa tipped his police cap to cover his eyes.
“S-so do you like…guns??”
“That may be interpreted that way because I am an Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon.”
Both of them stared at the other and, belatedly, Eito wondered if he’d ever seen her blink once.
“Y-y’know what…” Eito quietly spoke, “I think I actually forgot there’s somewhere else I need to be right now. I-it was um, nice hanging out here…at the police station…with you. Bye.”
And without another word Eito speed-walked out the door and out of Aigis’s sight. The robot impassively watched him scurry away, the original letter still held in her hand the entire time, and wondered if she had gotten a command incorrect. Officer Kurosawa sighed and looked at Aigis.
“Kid, word of advice: don’t bring your date to the police station.”
