Breath of Creation

Summary:

What if, instead of losing interest in his creation as soon as it was made Victor just took on a new interest in it.

That of being a father to this enourmous and very strong fully grown baby-like monsterous creature.

or

Just me wanted to have one iteration where Victor isn't a jackass to his own creation.

Also this is canon divergent in a lot of small ways but a big one is that Elizabeth has a negative reaction to the creature and Victor never had feelings for her.

Notes:

Promise I'll update once I have access to the movie again lol

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Victor has always been a singularly focused individual.

A man who tended to get his mind stuck on one thing at a time and completely devote himself to it. Rather that be work, family, or romance. It doesn't matter the subject in question. If given a tasks he's fully taken with it. It becomes his entire reason for being. His whole-hearted purpose for existence. He was just an obsessive person by nature.

This has been both to his benefit and downfall. As every other part of his life takes a huge hit of neglect when he's focused on his one thing. For instance, when he had his mother in his life, he spent every day finding joy by giving her joy. She was his world and he was hers. Everything else was just back ground noise.

Later on, when he was so taken with his studies, to one day be a renowned doctor, he had a hard time keeping in touch with his brother even via letters. He saw him in person on in coincidence in those days. When he took hiatus to reconnect with his family he all but drowned poor William in attention. So much so that, despite their grown brotherly-affection for one another, he was all but begging Victor to go back to work after a while.

When Victor later found himself taken with a midwife that worked on staff in the hospital that he did rotation in, his studies suffered greatly and there was significant delay in his pursuit of his overall dream of making life from death. It got to the point that, when she pushed for more Victor chose to abandon the life he could have had with in for the sake of his dreams.

Victor was, after all, very aware of his own obsessively focused nature. He has learned how to pick his battles as a result. He had to prioritize. He chose to continue to pursue his dream while saving all social energy in maintaining the distant relationship he has with his younger brother. At least putting in the effort to always respond to his letters if he could not write the first himself.

It was this consideration that would lead his brother to sending the man that would help fulfill his dreams, his way. A man with the monetary means of making it happen. As well as the idea for his brother to step in and help, for the first time ever, on his project while working on his own wedding himself. A wedding, and future sister-in-law, Victor often forgot was soon to be around.

Perhaps his brother thought that once his work was done, or at least failed in a way Victor could accept, he would once again dedicate time to being a big brother. As William was finding himself a man desiring closeness with family from now on. A young buck looking to settle down with those he loves close in hand. Perhaps, for the first time in years, actually living with Victor under the same roof again.

None of them could have thought that the end of Victor's work, and therefore his obsession with it, would only lead to a new obsession. One of a more fatherly nature.
