Eijun is panicking.
Panicking.
Because, well. He did not plan on being in Seido for Christmas.
Usually, he goes back home. That's what he did, the year before. What he expected to do this year, too, until his mom called saying that everyone was sick and to stay far away from Nagano until New Years, when, hopefully, everyone will have recuperated.
Under other circumstances, this would be fine. Normal. Sensible. Who likes being sick, after all?
But Eijun feels sick now, because staying for Christmas means he will be spending Christmas with Miyuki, and Eijun does not have a gift for him at all!!!
A week ago, this wouldn't have even mattered. Because they were teammates, nothing more. Well, maybe somethingmore, but, nothing concrete! They had been dancing around each other for so long now, Eijun didn't even expect they'd make anything official anytime soon. Actually, Eijun had planned on making his official move on graduation day by asking for Miyuki's second button.
But of course, that plan went to hell when Miyuki Kazuya suddenly kissed him a week ago after a private pitching session during which Eijun had proudly rambled about… he can't even remember about what.
Because Miyuki kissed him, and…
Well, they're boyfriends now, aren't they?
And Eijun doesn't have a gift for him!
Which totally makes him the worst boyfriend in history, and as a shojo enthusiast, he cannot let that slide.
But what is he supposed to get Miyuki for Christmas?! A new glove? That's stupid, he'd have to break it in. A new bat? But Miyuki doesn't need a new bat. A shirt?! But that feels too impersonal…
And Furuya and Harucchi were totally unhelpful too, when he asked them before they left for the holidays. Furuya suggested to get Miyuki a polar bear (?!) and Harucchi said to put a bow on his head and offer himself (?!?!).
Eijun had turned red from head to toe at the suggestion, before Harucchi clarified that the gift would simply mean spending time together, nothing indecent, but still…
What if Miyuki gets the wrong idea?! Eijun's not risking it.
But that leaves him empty-handed, and he's panicking. This is their first Christmas as a couple! It's important! Eijun needs to make it perfect! And yet, he doesn't have the most important piece — a gift!
He must've shopped for hours the night before, only to come back empty-handed because nothing seemed good enough. He saw a few cute things, keepsakes that Miyuki could bring with him to college next year and be reminded of Eijun, but they were not good enough for Christmas. At least, not their first one! It's too important!
Then again…
All of their Christmases will be important.
(Because they'll be together for a long time, right?)
Anyway. Eijun should've gotten the small gifts, because today is Christmas morning, and he has nothing.
Nothing!!!
He needs to hide. That's the only sensible option. Hide until Christmas is over, and—
"Sawamura, there you are."
Eijun shrieks. "Miyuki Kazuya!!!"
"Ugh," Miyuki laughs quietly, walking over, "don't shout out my name like that first thing in the morning. What's got you so jumpy?"
"N-Nothing!"
What is he going to do now?!
Miyuki arches a brow. "Oh you're definitely being weird. Are you hurt?" He eyes Eijun with a frown. "Did you fall out of bed this morning or something?"
"I did not! I'm fine!"
So not fine. Though, now that he sees Miyuki, Eijun realizes it was silly to think he could hide. Or even wanting to. This is their first Christmas together as a couple! He should not want to hide, even if he doesn't have a gift!!!
He—
"Oh. Well that's a shame," Miyuki hums, "I was going to offer to kiss it better."
Oh.
Oh.
"I'm not fine," Eijun immediately rectifies. "I'm terrible. The opposite of fine. I'm miserable."
Miyuki snorts, wrapping an arm around Eijun's shoulders to tug him closer. "Yeah? That bad? Gosh, what'll we do about it. Let's see…" he brushes his lips against Eijun's cheek, "I kiss and you tell me when to stop," he presses another kiss to Eijun's cheek, then the tip of his nose and finally to the corner of Eijun's lips. "Should I keep going?" He asks, mischief shining brightly in his eyes.
"Yes…"
"Of course, how dare I ask?" Miyuki chuckles, cupping Eijun's chin with his free hand and pressing a light kiss to his lips. "Does that help?"
"Yes…"
"Aw, there we go." Miyuki presses another kiss to Eijun's lips. "Looks like it'll just be you and me for Christmas."
"Haha… yes…"
Shit!
What will he do about his lack of gift?! Does Miyuki have something for him?!
"I'm surprised you haven't demanded that I catch for you," Miyuki chuckles, "who are you and what have you done to Eijun?"
"I was gonna get to that! I—"
Eijun stops.
Squints.
"Did you just call me Eijun?"
"…no."
Miyuki looks almost… sheepish. Eijun's definitely never seen him like that before. And is that red on his cheeks?!
Eijun gasps. And points, too. "You did!"
"Ugh…" Miyuki looks away, seemingly shrinking in on himself, "it slipped out…"
"Slipped out?" Eijun tilts his head, then gasps once more. "You've been saying my name in your head!"
"You talk too much." Miyuki grabs him by the cheeks, squeezing them. "That's a bold assumption that I will neither confirm nor deny."
"You don't need to confirm nor deny! I know the truth, Miyuki Kazuya!"
Miyuki heaves a sigh, giving Eijun a pointed look. "Fine. Have it your way, Eijun."
Eijun grins. This is… actually really adorable. "You like me!"
"What gave it away…." Miyuki flushes, looking away, "the kisses didn't tell you that?"
"I mean, yeah, but…" Eijun inches closer, all up in Miyuki's face until Miyuki looks back at him. "You haven't said it out loud!" he points out, poking Miyuki's cheek.
This only makes his face redder, but he doesn't look away. "Figured staying extra hours to catch for you, saving you seats during games and giving you preferential treatment over literally everyone else would've given me away, but…." he pokes Eijun's nose, "yeah, I like you."
Eijun grins. So much. "Say it again!"
"Oh…" Miyuki's gaze falls between them, "you heard me… so demanding. I like you. There. Happy?"
"Yes," Eijun replies. "Now kiss me," he demands, though he doesn't give Miyuki the time to act upon his demand before he grips Miyuki's shirt and pulls him closer, crashing his lips upon his.
God god god.
Eijun always knew kissing Miyuki would be amazing, but ever since he knows what those lips taste like, he's addicted. Addicted to those lips, addicted to Miyuki.
"So bossy," Miyuki teases with a small laugh, muffled by Eijun's lips. He wraps his arms around Eijun's waist, squeezing him lightly. "Is this my Christmas gift? Because I'm enjoying it a lot."
Oh.
Eijun pulls away, studying Miyuki. Is he kidding? Is he serious? Because this would work out quite well for him, actually…
"Do you… want it be?" Eijun asks. "Because I can give more kisses. Infinite kisses."
"Yeah?" Miyuki's eyes light up, a smile curving his lips upwards. "You promise?"
Oh.
That's it???
"You really don't want anything else?"
Why is he asking that? He has nothing else to give!!!
Miyuki chuckles, shaking his head and leaning closer to press another soft, lingering kiss to Eijun's lips. "I mean we could have a date in my room later if you want, but… I'm very easy to please."
So is Eijun. He'd love just having a Christmas date in Miyuki's room. Maybe some pitching, too… but he won't be greedy.
That's a lie.
He totally will.
But—
"Do you have a gift for me?" Eijun asks. "Like… an actual gift. Because…"
Miyuki quirks a brow. "Because?"
Ugh.
"Because I didn't buy you anything!" Eijun replies, bowing apologetically. "Forgive this Sawamura Eijun! I couldn't find anything worthy of you, Miyuki Kazuya!!!"
Miyuki's silent for the longest time before bursting into laughter. "Stop it, come on stand up don't don't do that…" he gently grabs Eijun by the forearms, "I didn't get anything perse but I was going to surprise you with breakfast in bed and offer to catch as many pitches as you wanted, but…I didn't think you'd be up so early."
Eijun gasps, looking up at Miyuki and grabbing his forearms, too. "You didn't get me anything?! Thank god! I thought I was ruining our first Christmas together!"
"You didn't ruin anything, so dramatic…" Miyuki chuckles, "don't worry, you're gift enough, Ei-chan." He bops Eijun on the nose. "I expect kisses though."
Eijun grins, wrapping his arms around Miyuki's neck and peppering his face with endless kisses. "I will kiss you all day long until you're sick of me!"
"That would never happen," Miyuki murmurs, squeezing Eijun against him. Oh. "Tell me what you want for breakfast. Anything. We can splurge today."
"Uh… omurice?"
Not really splurging, but…
Miyuki nods, pressing a kiss to Eijun's cheek. "If that's what you want, then that's what it'll be. And then…" he trails off, smiling, "I catch for you. Does that sound reasonable for a gift? I'll wear a bow on my head if it helps."
Eijun laughs. "Harucchi said I should do that! Put a bow on my head and offer myself as a gift!"
Miyuki hums, fondly brushing the back of his hand against Eijun's cheek. "Maybe next year. I wouldn't say no to something so lovely."
Eijun flushes. "Oh…"
"Yeah," he presses another kiss to Eijun's cheek, "come on, let's go. I have special Christmas omurice to prepare," he declares, offering Eijun his hand, which Eijun eagerly takes before Miyuki drags him to the kitchens.
He ends up making the omurice, which tastes delicious. Of course it does, because Miyuki cooks like a chef even as a high schooler. They end up going outside to pitch after, and Eijun gets to pitch to his heart's content. Then they get back inside and watch a Christmas movie, one of Eijun's favourites.
Miyuki makes him even more delicious food for lunch, before they start a second movie Eijun has very loud opinions about.
(Like, why does the heroine not realize her best friend has loved her all along? Why does she think her happiness is with another stupid, stupid man?)
Miyuki cooks him dinner too, and Eijun quickly realizes he is spoiled. Even more so when Miyuki suggests they read some shojo manga in the evening (!!!), though his request is for Eijun to read to him, and do all the voices and the sound effects. Eijun at first wonders if he'll sound like an idiot, but he doesn't care, because it's Christmas, and Miyuki asked for it, so. After all, Miyuki has given Eijun today (and Eijun suspects this is another gift from him, too), Eijun can definitely indulge in this request.
They end up falling asleep in Miyuki's bed watching their third movie of the night on Miyuki's phone, and when Eijun wakes up in the middle of the night because his bladder is tormenting him, he looks at the time and smiles.
11:59.
It's still Christmas.
And honestly? It's his best one yet.
So he kisses Miyuki's cheek, and whispers:
"Merry Christmas, Miyuki Kazuya."
