Chapter Text
Liam sits on his bed scrolling through instagram storys, his mother called it ‘doom scrolling’. It was a friday night and he was in bed, he hadn’t even gone down to get dinner he just sat.
With everyone off to college it felt as if he didn’t have anything to do. No one needed saving, no one needed help, the hardest thing he’d done all week was write a paper for english.
It felt wierd, Scott and the others gone not there incase something did happen. They called often making sure everyone was alright but it was normal.. too normal. Like before liam had known about the supernatural. which to him seemed like a distant memory, something from a past life.
Liam still had Mason, Corey, and Hayden even though they thought it would be best so just be friends. He had a perfectly normal 17 year olds life, well other than having to stay inside masons basement during the full moon. Two months past since the last fight and it really was their last one. There were no more monsters to fight, know one needed saved, just highschoolers trying to do highschooler things.
Mason and Corey were sickeningly in love, Hayden had become friends with some girl named Trista who was soon let into the friend group, but for liam it was different, eveyone else wanted to pretend it was all just a nightmare something they imagined but for liam it was now something he’d gotten used to, being normal felt off.
Of course he’d still hang out with them and they could talk about it but it wasn’t like how it used to be, you know like with the old pack everyone had someone they could count on but for liam that was Scott and now he’s gone and liam feels lost.
Liam got up out of bed put on his shoes, he quitely walked through the door and went for a walk it was silent other than the faint sound of cars and crickets. He didn’t know where he was going but he just wanted to walk. Maybe he was trying to find something just wierd enough to make himself think that it wasn’t really their last fight.
Maybe a scream from someone getting ripped apart, or a wolf coming from the woods, maybe even a howl. Liam listened.. nothing. Absoulotly nothing.
Not even a gowl.
‘what am i doing?’ he thought, ‘theirs nothing out here.’ He shook his head.
Before liam knew it he was sitting outside of a closed store. Nothing wierd about it just the average parking lot. The front of the store flashed as cars drove by, the breeze of the night felt amazing as it ran through his hair. He finally got up and dusted hisself off, and begining to head home.
He’d walked only a few blocks before the scent of fear clung to his nose. He stopped and listened before hearing the sound of someone screaming, he followed the scent, leading him into the woods. It wasn’t deep but just far enough to not be seen from the roads, he found a truck and the closer he got the more pungent the smell became, he could hear heavy breathing as he tried his best to not step on anything to loudly. When he reached the truck his heart sank and he couldn’t believe it.
“theo?” He said questioningly. He peak through the window see the deep green eyes staring back at him. Theo was wrapped in a blanket, he was covered in sweat and looked as if he’d just seen a ghost.
”What the hell are you doing?” Liam asked looking into the truck more. Theo looked at him smuggly not answering. “what are you doing here?” He asked.
”Well, i heard a scream..” He began. “Was that you?” He questioned. “and are you sleeping in your car?”
Theo looked at him annoyance clear when he said, “none of your business, Dunbar.” rolling his eyes.
” Well are you okay?” Liam asked. “I’m fine, now go home.” Theo replied
"i heard you scream, what is it?" He asks more seriously. "Oh, it was just the sound of being woken up at-" He checks his phone. "Two in the morning to the sound of you and all your questions." He replies leaning back onto his seat.
Liam hesitates not sure of what to do or say. "Go home Dunbar." Theo says without opening his eyes. Liam begins walking, but stops. "do you think its weird that nothings happening?" He questions.
"I was living in the sewers until now so, no Liam I don't care that no one is trying to kill me." Theo replies with a sigh. "Okay but, do you think there might be a chance of something being out there.. waiting." He looked away trying to find something.
"God are you going to sit and talk all night or do i have to just drive off?" Theo asked snappily. "No, i guess i'll go.. goodnight theo." Liam replied walking.
The sound of theo sigh could be heard before, "wait." Liam walked back to the truck questioningly. "You've already woken me up might aswell drive you home." Theo suggested sitting up.
"How far is it?" He asked. "I can walk home." Liam replied. "Get in the truck Dunbar." Theo replied. Liam shrugged it wasn't the worst idea ever.

The drive was only ten minutes which the two sat in a weird silence. Once they arrived Liam hopped out. "Thank you." He said which Theo just replied to with a glare. Liam began walking, theo backed out.
"Do you wanna sleep inside?" Liam asked so quite that if theo wasn't supernatural he probably wouldn't have heard him. Theo stopped giving him a questionable look. "What?" He asked.
"I mean, theo you're sleeping in your truck. Its kind of sad, and my mom always told me to help when i can, so?" Liam replied. Theo stopped for a moment. "you aren't gonna try and kill me?" Theo asked. "the packs not in there ready to pounce?"
"Theo I don't want to kill you." Liam says with a laugh. "you did save my life once, the least i could do is let you sleep here." Liam added. "i also tried to kill you and your friends."
"Do you want to or not." Liam replied trying to shake off the words. Theo pulled back in and got out of the truck. "You wont kill me?" He asked. Liam held his pinky out. "Promise." He said. Theo looked at him funny which liam must have noticed because he elaborated. "Its a pinky promise, you know to like know you can really trust someone.. com'n you don't know what a pinky promise is?" He replied seriously.
"I was a science experiment there wasn't time for 'pinky promises'" He replied with a grin but wrapped his pinky around liams.
The two walked inside quickly and quietly, up the stairs and into liams room. "What if your parents ask?" Theo asked. "I'll just say you're a friend from school who needed a place to stay." Liam replied taking his shoes off. "No shoes." He pointed to theo, who took them off and put them by the door. "You can shower if you want, and i've got an extra pair of pajamas." Liam said nodding to a door on the other side of the room.
"no offence but, i don't think anything of yours will fit me." Theo laughed looking liam up and down. "first off, youre like three inches taller than me and what are you like a large?" Liam replied obviously offended.
"Its okay to be short dunbar don't be upset." Theo laughed. Liam just glared at him shoving a pair of clothes at him. "Go shower." Liam replied. Theo obliged. and afterwards liam did the same.
Liam walked out drying his hair. Theo was stood in liams clothes looking at the stuff on the walls and other random stuff liam had laying around. "You're a total nerd." Theo laughed. "don't touch that." Liam said as theo reached for his lego set that took him two weeks to build.
Theo immediately dropped his hands. "And how does this make me a nerd?" Liam questioned sitting on his bed. "You have a wall dedicated to history stuff." Theo replied looking at him.
"So what? I like history, do you not have interest?"
"I like biology, but if you're asking if i like to build legos and read comics, the answers no." Theo replied sitting at liams desk. "Okay so why not?" Liam asks. "Well, when you're trying to run for your life you don't really have time for puzzles." Theo laughed.
"and why biology?"
"im practically a lab rat, whose lived in the sewers his whole life why else?" Liam scoffed. "you love bringing that up."
"What can i say, its a good excuse." Theo grinned. "Okay so where do i sleep?" Theo asked.
Liam got up grabbing an air mattress from his closet, blowing it up and throwing a few pillows and blankets on it. He shut the light off before laying in his own bed. "Sleep tight." He said turning over. "Night." Theo replied. "And thanks." He spoke. Liam just nodded.

the morning came quick for Liam. He slept quite peacefully; he rubbed his eyes before looking down at the floor. "theo?" He mumbled frantically. 'Where the hell did he go?' he thought.
He heard the sound of people talking downstairs. He walks quickly almost out of breath. The small screech of his mother made him move quicker.
"Mom?!" He rushed into the kitchen. "Yes?" She questioned he voice soft and airy. Theo was at the sink, placing a soapy plate onto into it. His mother flipping a pancake. "Whats going on? Are you alright?" She asked.
"I-uh yeah im fine.. what-whats going on?" He questioned. "i was making pancakes and theo came down to help." She replies with smile, 'shes okay, liam, shes fine.' he told himself.
When his mother turned he glared at Theo. "Theo can we talk really quick?" Liam asked softly. Theo nodded as they headed upstairs. Once he shut the door he was immediately pinned to it.
"i don't know what youre playing at but do not bring my mother into it!" Liam said anger seeping through him. "Liam calm the hell down!" Liams hands only pressed him harder into the door.
Theo quickly overtook him slamming him into the door. "I don't know what your issue is but you need to calm down! Last i checked you asked me to stay the night!" Theo replied anger slowly simmering.
Liam took a few deep breaths before chilling out. "So you weren't trying to kill my mom?" He asked sitting on his bed. "Dunbar if i wanted to kill you or your mom i would have done so. I wanted to help." Theo said.
"BOYS BREAKFAST!" Jenna yelled from downstairs. Theo gave him one last glare before heading down liam following.
The three sat at the table, chatting. "wheres dad?" Liam asked. "he had the morning shift so he should be home around four." She replied sweetly.
"So when do you get here?" Jenna questioned theo. "Last night. im sorry for not letting you know. I just had a fight with my parents and need somewhere to stay." He smiled. "Oh, it's not a problem, you can stay until it gets settled as long as its okay with them." Jenna smiled back. He nodded. Liam looked between the two. He knew it was a lie, how could he lie so flawlessly?
The boys head upstairs. "So?"
"So? What?" Theo questioned. "are you staying?" Liam asks. "Do you mind?"
"No. As long as you don't cause any problems, and scott cant know." Liam said looking at the boy.
"okay."
"okay."
The rest of the day was the boys playing games, well liam trying to teach theo and then giving up and doing it himself. They talked about the war, and not like how it is with everyone else, they really talked like it was an everyday conversation. What they would do if it happened again or if there was more out there.
That night the two of them sit on liams bed, silent but not uncomfortably, before liam speaks, "do- do you live in your car?" He questioned, theo thought it was obvious and maybe it was and liam was just being sure.
"Yes liam, i live in my truck." Theo replied, he'd not tried to be harsh but he feared it still came out that way. Liam opened his mouth on the verge of saying something but quicky drew back.
A few minutes went by before he spoke agian. "you could live here... like with me. We have a guest room." Liam said, theo could hear the uneasiness in his voice. "what?" Theo asked unsure if he heard him correctly.
"I mean, i could talk to my mom about it.. tell her that you couldn't go home. She wouldn't question it, shes too nice." Liam added. "Liam." Theo said not taking his eyes off the ceiling.
"hm?"
"Liam, i can't do that.." He huffed. "why not?" Liam replied, there was something in his tone.. not anger or hurt it seemed more like guilt. "Because, she hardly knows me.. and what if she does question it.. she isn't like Mellisa. She doesn't know about things like that."
"Okay, but she said you could stay as long as you'd like." Liam replied, theo could hear him move to the side, feeling his eyes on him. "Thats just something people say, you know to sound nice." Liam doesn't reply.
"Good night liam." Theo says before turning over and slowly falling asleep.
