show a little love, babe

Summary:

Being in a secret relationship and hiding it from your friends and family was no easy feat, but Will truly believed that Mike and him could do this. At least until both of them felt ready to tell them the truth.

Right?

If only Mike would stop calling Will by pet names whenever their friends, family, or even strangers were around.

And maybe if only both of them can keep their hands to themselves for more than five minutes.

And maybe if only people stopped walking in on them getting it on.

———

Few instances where Mike called Will by ‘baby’, ‘angel’, and even ‘princess’, and got walked in on while doing so.

Notes:

Chapter 1: twice in a day

Chapter Text

Will woke up from his nap feeling warm all over.

He blinked a few times, rubbing his eyes. Letting out a tiny yawn (that Mike said whenever he did that, he looked like a kitten or a bunny, Will would roll his eyes but the blush on his cheeks betrayed him), he tried to snuggle back into his pillow. His—unfortunately, or maybe fortunately—firm pillow, with hands that wrapped around his waist and fingers that splayed over his stomach and legs that intertwined with his and—

“Morning, Will,” Mike whispered hoarsely, nuzzling into Will’s neck. His arms tightened around Will’s middle.

Will chuckled, nuzzling back into his beloved. Sometimes he couldn’t believe this is his life. “Morning, Mike.”

“Good night sleep?” The other man asked, trying to draw Will closer to him.

“Always, when I’m with you,” Will flirted, burrowing deeper into his boyfriend’s embrace. He could feel Mike started to give soft-barely there kisses trail on his neck. “How’s your sleep, Mike?”

Mike only hummed in response, too busy leaving little sweet kisses on Will’s neck. The canvas was already filled with his marks from the previous night, Mike couldn’t help to leave a kiss on each of them, before finally moving up to his jaw and stopping before he could reach Will’s pink lips.

Will pouted, a little annoyed that Mike stopped right there.

“Hi there, baby,” Mike smiled, eyes half lidded. He held himself up with his both of his, caging Will down. “Your lips look lonely. Mind if I come there and give you something?”

“Sometimes you’re so corny.” Will rolled his eyes, acting as if his cheeks weren’t already flushed. “And stop that! You said you’re going to stop calling me pet names for some time, Mike!”

“You love it,” Mike scoffed, a smirk graced his lips. “And what with this sudden hate of pet names? I thought you’re into it!”

Now Will’s definitely blushed, he looked away from Mike. “Well, I am into it, but not when it jeopardize our secret, Mike.”

The secret being their relationship.

After Mike pulled his head out of his ass and really tried to make amends to Will (it’s a long story for another time), both of them jumped right into a romantic relationship. It’s really all or nothing for Mike and Will like that, always had been. But at the same time, after a long long discussion that involved maybe tears and frustration and finally being honest with one another, they decided that the best thing to do was to keep it under wrap for some undecided time, at least until it reached one year mark.

It’s only been 6 months since then and Will could’ve sworn that they almost outed themselves around 27 times.

Will couldn’t even blame Mike fully, because sometimes he also slipped up. Like forgetting that they’re in a group setting and giving a kiss on Mike’s cheek. Like holding Mike’s hand because it already felt second nature. Many more cases, but let’s not dive deep into them.

Mike’s cases though… always involved pet names.

“Last week, you called me baby,” Will started, looking up at Mike with his doe eyes. “While Max is sitting right next to me. Right next to me, Mike! I swear that she’s looking at us weirdly the whole night!”

“Okay, first of all,” Mike started, with a deadpan look on his face. “You also slipped up that day and kissed me on the cheek, again! It’s a good thing Lucas and Max were too distracted by the movie! And second of all—”

A sudden pause. Will raised his eyebrow, his hands playing idly with Mike’s hair. “What, Mike?”

A wide grin slowly turning up from Mike’s lips. He had this mischievous look, the one where Will knew that he’s about to tease the hell out of him. He leaned closer to Will’s face, so close that Will could feel his breath.

“Second of all,” Mike tilted his face, his gaze felt smoldering on Will’s skin. He leaned even closer, putting his mouth right next to Will’s ear before he whispered, “You know damn well you love it when I call you by pet names, baby.”

Will moaned loudly when Mike clamped his teeth onto his earlobe, then kissed it tenderly. The act sent a shiver down Will’s body, hands desperately pulling Mike closer.

Mike’s warm hand latched onto Will’s jaw, cradling it as if he’s holding the whole world. He peppered kisses all over Will’s face, with Will giggling because it tickled a little bit, before finally kissing Will right on his lips.

Mike’s lips on him always felt like a revelation.

Mike always kissed him as if Will’s a king, or even a god, that Mike was entirely devoted to and revered to. His lips leaving a trail of prayers on Will’s skin, and his fingertips making a testament out of the shivers he managed to get from Will.

Love and devotion had always been something similar to both of them.

Mike bit Will’s bottom lip sharply. “Don’t get lost in your own thoughts when I’m kissing you, angel.”

Will could only whine in respond, then proceeded to sneak a bite on Mike’s collarbone in retaliation.

He didn’t know when things escalated even further, with Mike’s knee wedged between his legs, encouraging him to grind on it. Meanwhile his hands were busy exploring every inches of Will’s body, leaving unseen marks behind that filled Will with hear. Will could feel something poking his hips every time Mike rocked back into him, and he really couldn’t continue that trail of thought because he already felt hot all over and feeling like he would actually explode right now.

Mike rolled his hips against him, and immediately Will lost any kind of thought that he had in his mind at that moment.

“You like that, baby?” Mike groaned, with a stupid handsome smug smirk. Will was so in love with him.

“Yeah, Mike,” Will answered, breathlessly. Their lips grazing each other’s while his hands were busy tugging on Mike’s curls. “Yeah.”

“Yeah, angel?”

Will was about to pull Mike into another filthy kiss, when there’s suddenly the sound some groceries bags hitting the floor, followed by a squawk of total surprise that was a little too close to where they’re lying down.

“Really, guys? On my beloved thrifted couch that I lovingly repaired and repainted?” An exasperated voice interrupted, a big exhale of sigh could be heard after that.

Will yelped, immediately shoving Mike away from on top of him. Mike let out an ‘oof’ but backed away, giving the other man space to tangle out from the blankets and trying to look like he hadn’t been mauled by Mike.

Right. They’re currently crashing on Nancy, Robin, and Jonathan’s shared apartment, because there’s a sudden outpour of rain last night after they finished their monthly get together familial dinner.

Robin’s there too, but at this point Mike could’ve sworn that the woman was there wherever his sister was.

“Rockin’ Robin! Heeey…” Mike started, having the decency to look sheepish. “So. It’s not what it looks like.”

Will on the other side of the couch now nodded furiously, his face was beet red and his hands were clenching on the blanket he used to cover his naked upper body. Mind you, Mike was shirtless and blanketless.

Robin gave them an ‘are you kidding me’ look, looking more amused now. “Sure, and I assume that the massive multiple fresh hickeys on Will’s neck over there that can be seen from outer space is because of mosquitoes’ bite and not because of a certain someone with a name started with M and ended with E.”

Will spluttered, still clutching onto the blanket with all his might, meanwhile Mike was trying hard to hold back a smug smirk.

Robin just shook her head, wordlessly saying ‘what do you guys have to say to yourself now’.

Sensing that there’s really no other way to go about this, Mike looked over at Will at the other side of the couch. Will was looking anywhere else but at Robin, blatantly anxious and fidgeting with a strayed blanket strand.

Mike’s eyes softened in an instant, his own body automatically itching to get closer to his boy. He moved closer to Will, his hand reaching out for Will’s shoulder without any pause, stroking the bare skin.

Mike lowered his head a little to search for Will’s eyes, then with a low voice saying, “Angel. Hey, listen to me. I’m fine with telling her if you’re also fine with it.”

Will’s eyes glistened, this close up they looked like they held stars inside them and Mike wanted to drown in them. “You’re sure?”

The other man smiled fervently, eyes turning into crescent moons. “Yeah, baby. Whatever you’re comfortable with.”

What Mike said just now seemed like it gave Will the confidence that he needed, because he immediately straightened up his body posture and letting go of the blanket that he previously clutched so close to his body. He finally faced Robin and looked right at her, who was still standing but offering them a smile of support mixed with a bit of confusion.

“Robin,” Will started with a determined look on his face. "Mike and I... we're in a relationship, a serious one, have been for some time now. We're just trying to find a right time to tell everyone and want to keep this between ourselves until we're ready to tell people."

Mike slyly put his arm around Will, half sprawled over him like a big puppy. "Long story short, we're boyfriends. Right, baby?"

Will groaned, rolling his eyes fondly at him. But he did not move away from Mike so Mike would count that as a win in his book. He lowered his head and kissed Will's cheek sweetly as revenge for rolling his eyes though.

Both of them were a bit too lost in their own world and in each other's eyes, at least until Robin marched up to them without saying anything, stopped right in front of Will with an unreadable face.

Then she proceeded to hug Will so tight, Will let out a cute 'oomph' by the force of her hug.

"Finally! Oh my God, you don't know how happy I am for you two right now!" Robin cheered, sounding so bubbly and happy. It seemed like she hugged Will even tighter now. "Won't you look at that, Will? You got your man in the end after all! Oh, I'm sooo happy and proud of you right now! I mean, I suspected for some time, but you know what they say about assuming makes an ass out of you and me."

Will laughed, instantly hugging her back. His eyes were misty, but there's a big smile on his face right now. "Thank you, Robin. I couldn't ask for a better

Robin loosened up her hug, and suddenly, there's a wicked smirk on her face. "Huh. I guess he's not your Tammy after all, huh?"

"Robin!" Will giggled, shoving her a bit.

God, Mike was so in love with him. He would destroy kingdoms and even other galaxies for him if he had the means to do that.

"Wow, no hug for me?" Mike interjected teasingly, folding his arms across his chest and raising one eyebrow.

"Little Wheeler, you're on thin ice!" Robin countered, finally letting Will go from her hug. "With all the baby and angel business that I have to heard just now, you owe me a big one."

"Maybe I should start calling Will by baby and angel more in front of you now actually," Mike commented, there's not an ounce of shame on his face right now. He grinned, pulling Will closer by the waist. "Or maybe even princess."

That one made Will's face turned as red as a tomato, but he leaned back into Mike's embrace and let himself melt in the arms of the man that he loved.

"Not another word out of your mouth or else I will need to bleach my ears. I love Will, but I don't need to know that!" Robin prattled, picking up the grocery bags that she dropped on the floor earlier, dropping them at the armchair next to the couch. ”And please, both of you! Wear your damn shirts! The next thing I don’t want to happen is Nancy and Jonathan bursting out of the door and seeing you two almost naked, on our favorite couch.”

“I don’t think my sister is fond of this couch that much, actually.”

“Oh, shut up, Wheeler. Who’s actually her roommate here?” Robin rolled her eyes, picking up Will's shirt that was left sprawled on the floor (oops) and throwing it back to the owner. "And you two seemed like you love the couch just a few minutes ago so who's talking now, huh?"

Will's face straight away went flushed, catching his shirt and without a word slipping back into it. The shirt somehow managed to hide the sliver of marks that were littered around his neck, and Mike preened at the thought of other people seeing those marks and knowing that he's the one who left them there because Will was his.

”Also, a little additional suggestion, just make sure you don’t slip up again at the get together tonight, Little Byers and Little Wheeler.” Robin stood there with an amused stare now, raising one teasing eyebrow. “I wouldn't be around tonight to cover up for you two. You guys are suuuper lucky both Nancy and Jonathan are not the one who barged into you two making out on the couch.”

Her words were promptly followed by the apartment door opening harshly and shuffling sounds; to be exact, irritated and annoyed shuffling sounds.

“Hey, we’re back! Good God, the subway today is just unbelievable, I was on the verge of hitting someone over the head because of how obnoxious— Mike, why are you shirtless on the couch?”

----

The get together party was unofficially The Party's monthly catching up session ever since all of them went their separate ways. It's been a mutual silent agreement that all of them would try their best to stay in touch, because after all they experienced together it just made sense to keep tight with one another. Mike was endlessly glad that all the people that he loved dearly were still so close to him outside of Hawkins, and the ones that weren't in New York always trying their best to also attend their monthly get together.

Dustin attended almost every month, only missing out once or twice; meanwhile El usually attended every few months in the middle of her exploring and traveling the world with Kali. Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, and Robin joined them sometimes, but usually they had their own monthly get together that Mike heard involved Robin's weird uncle loft apartment in downtown.

It's always good to see The Party all together in the same place.

And Mike knew that Will also felt the same way as him, with how his guard obviously dropped whenever they're all together. The high wall that Will built around himself whenever he's in the crowd and in new places, all of that were non-existent with the whole party together. There's not a hint of anxiety or worry coming from him. Just pure contentment and the feeling of everything was exactly at its right place.

This time, unfortunately, the bad news was El couldn't join them because apparently she's still stuck in another continent for maybe a few more weeks (at least, that's what her latest postcard from Netherlands said), but the good news was they could hold the get together at Nancy, Jonathan, and Robin's shared apartment. Which was extra convenient because Mike and Will didn't have to go to another place after the accident with Robin this morning.

The aforementioned owners of the place weren't here tonight, saying that they had to do some research related to Jonathan's anti capitalism zombie film, which honestly sounded kind of fun. Jonathan actually talked to Mike about it a few times, even asking if Mike maybe wanted to contribute to the project with his writing.

"Hey, Wheeler! Stop standing there in the corner staring at us like a loser and come hang here on the couch!" Max hollered, looking way too comfortable in the middle of Lucas and Will.

Mike rolled his eyes. The only thing that he dreaded on every get together was the fact that he couldn't get any time alone with Will. Don't get him wrong, he loved his friends and cared for them and if any of them killed someone he would help them bury the body, but Mike was just a man. He needed to be in physical touch with Will every few minutes or every fifteen minutes max, or else he would go crazy.

He pushed himself off from leaning against the wall, and slowly making his way to the couch. He sat down right next to Will without any shame, as close to the other man as he possibly could, pressing close to Will's inviting heat. He's not even worried that their current audience would question his action as best friends action or lovers action, because that's just how Mike and Will worked since forever, always had been.

Of course, Will pressed back onto Mike's body, trying to be subtle about it. But if Mike was being honest, he's not as subtle as he tried to be.

Mike smiled lazily at Will, anyone can see the flirty undertones in his smile. "Hey, you."

Will smiled back, softer and gentle. Everything about him was so pretty, Mike could just eat him up right here right now. "Hey, Mike."

Mike's urge to just take Will back to their shared dorm and ravishing him all night long heightened.

Max's deadpanned voice unfortunately interrupted the moment between them. "Okay, now that you are here, stop staring at Will like a creep."

"Well, Maxine," Mike drawled, raising his arm to put around Will's shoulder. Huh. Maybe he really was shameless. "Maybe you should ask Will whether he thinks I'm a creep or not for staring at him."

Max squinted her eyes at him, obviously trying hard to hold back from rolling her eyes. "I don't even want to ask Will because no matter how many times I said to him that he's truly way out of your league, he still won't listen to me, his good friend Maxine."

"Oooff, babe, you don't have to burn him like that," Lucas added from next to Max, shaking his head in sympathy.

Will chuckled, leaning his head to rest on Mike's shoulder comfortably. "It's fine, having Mike around is like having a puppy that obeys your order and wags his tail happily all the time."

"What- Will!" Mike groaned, acting betrayed. "I'm just a puppy to you? After everything that I did for you? Really?"

Will tilted his head, there's a glint in his eyes. "To be honest, you are exactly like a puppy sometimes, Mike."

Dustin barked a loud laugh from where he sat on the armchair next to the couch, before looking at Lucas and made a 'take a look at this guy' gesture toward Mike. "Ha! My brother asking if he's just a puppy to Will when all he does twenty four hours a day and seven days a week is following Will around and doing whatever Will wants to do."

Lucas cackled, clinking his beer bottle with Dustin's. "Sorry man, but what Dustin said just now literally described you. Like word to word, ten points, perfect mark for Dustin."

"Fine, whatever, guys!" Mike threw both his hands up, but quickly settling one of them back to wrap around Will. "I'm a puppy, I guess, whatever!"

Will and Max snickered together, both of them just loved to conspire against Mike these days whenever they could, much to his dismay. Max smirked, tossing her hair behind her for added effect to humiliate Mike more probably. "You're like super whipped for Will, Wheeler, don't even try to deny it at this point because it's just going to embarrass you even more."

Will thankfully didn't say anything to add to Mike's misery, but he did grin from ear to ear, his eyes were twinkling with mischief. He did touch

"Not even going to deny it when I'm also agreeing with you guys." Mike shrugged, then proceeded to stand up again from his seat next to Will. "I'm going to the kitchen to grab more beer and more snacks, anyone want anything?"

Lucas and Dustin chorused 'more beer!' then giggling together like little kids. Max rolled her eyes at them fondly, commenting something about how it would be nice if there's more chips and maybe even dips to light up this lame-ass get together.

Will looked up at Mike from where he sat at the couch, then with his big doe eyes said, "I'll help you, Mike."

Mike beamed at him, before offering his hand to pull Will up from the couch, because his baby deserved to be treated like royalty. From the corner of his eye, he could see that Max looked at them weirdly for a few moments, but then got distracted by Dustin dragging her into another endless debate between him and Lucas.

The kitchen area in the shared apartment was thankfully hidden from the living room, with an arched cased opening. From the entryway point of view, you can only see a small part of the kitchen, and it's exactly what Mike needed just now to give both him and Will the privacy that he ached for since earlier this night.

Will was walking right in front of him, humming softly under his breath. The turtleneck that he wore tonight made him look so mouthwatering and delectable, but at the same time the piece of clothes successfully hiding all the marks that Mike left on his body, which only heightened Mike's urge to leave more marks on more visible places. And don't even start on the jeans that he wore tonight. Mike felt like a saint for not making any move on his boyfriend up all night until now.

When Will finally reached the fridge and was about to open it, Mike at once stopped him. He turned the other man's body around to face him, and pushed him so he's trapped between the fridge and Mike's rigid body.

Will blinked a few times, trying to get a hold of his sudden change of position. "Mike, what are you-"

Mike was not going to let another word coming out from Will's mouth, with the way he dived in into covering Will's lips with his own. He could taste the faint sweet soda that Will drank earlier, and the smell of Mike's spicy perfume that Will loved to use just because he loved the scent of Mike around him. Will let out a surprised muffled moan, but did not make any move to stop Mike from kissing the life out of him.

Instead, he pulled him closer, looping his hands around Mike's neck and leaning up to the kiss.

"I'm sorry, baby," Mike murmured, one of his hands now on Will's lower back. His lips bumping on Will's skin, leaving another kiss on the corner of Will's lips. "You just look so pretty, I couldn't bear the thought of not touching you."

He bit Will's lower lip, coaxing him to part his lips so that Mike could taste him and explore his mouth. Mike could never get tired of the act that was kissing Will. Will's lips were always soft, the perfect thing to bite and lick. Will's body went pliant every time they kissed, and Mike loved the feeling of Will's fingers making a mess out of his hair. Mike felt like he had the whole world right in his arms, and feeling like he's the luckiest guy in the world for having Will Byers like this, moaning and pliant in his arms.

"Sssh, baby," Mike whispered, hot and heavy. "Be quiet for me, princess."

At that moment, Will let out a loud moan, and all that Mike could think about was how beautiful Will looked.

"Will, did you just moan after being called princess?"

Will broke the kiss, looking fully ravished but still not enough. He glared at Mike, and there's a pout on his lips. "Shut up Mike, kiss me again."

"Your command is my order, princess." Mike moved his knee, positioning it right in the middle of Will's legs, who immediately hiked his leg around Mike's hip and pulling Mike closer so he could deepen the kiss shared between the two of them. Everything felt so hot, and Mike believed at that moment if a car crash into the kitchen, he wouldn't even give a fuck and would just continue kissing on Will. Hell, an apocalypse could happen right at this very moment and Mike Wheeler would be too busy loving on Will Byers.

Mike was about to escalate their makeout session even more, moving his hands to grab on Will's ass and squeeze them; when he felt the pressure of Will's hands pushing him off, putting a tiny distance between the two of them. His hands were still on Mike's hair and he's heaving, trying to catch his breath, meanwhile Mike's hands were already on their destination and were ready to take action to the next level.

"Mike, oh my God," Will hissed with a flushed face, his hand covered Mike's lips for a quick second before it went back to his shoulder. "Behave. Control yourself, our friends are just one room away."

Mike couldn't help but smirked, hands were still holding Will's ass tightly and refusing to let go. "Oh, I'm behaving, alright, princess."

"Princess?" A loud, strangled voice coming from the entry of the kitchen, which of course followed by the sound of more footsteps coming to the kitchen. "What's going on here? ...Mike, where do you put your hands right now?"

At that point, Mike started to wonder maybe they were cursed by Vecna to always being walked on.
