Work Text:

"Gon! We're here! " Killua called out to Gon, who was occupied by the breath-taking view of ocean waves and the beautiful sunrise. Gon grinned widely, light radiating from his smile, as he grabbed his backpack and stepped down the stairs. Both of them have finally arrived back at Whale Island, not long after completing their purpose of attending the Heaven's Arena, which was to return the badge to Hisoka. Their return was warmly welcomed by a crowd of citizens, filled with the wave of laughter and enjoyment.

"Hey! Gon, Killua! Did you two pass the Hunter Exam?", said a familiar voice from a mile far. Gon quickly noticed, and pulled Killua to the familiar person.

"Mister! It's been a long time since I've seen you! And yes, we did." He said, still holding Killua's hand tightly.

"Yes, that's right. How have you been doing lately?"

Gon sighed, but still kept his joyful presence. "I've been a bit tired, but I'm fine!" He smiled. Gon squeezed Killua's hand, urging him to answer.

"Urgh! Well... Uhh.. I'm doing okay.. What about you? Mister." Killua spoke out loudly. He winced in a considerable amount of pain. The guy chuckled,

"I'm doing great. But I've gotta go now, Noko is probably waiting for me at home. See ya kids around sometimes, yeah?" He waved, saying his goodbyes. Gon waved back, and yelled.

"Sure thing, Mister! See you around!"

Killua held the handle, and pushed the door open, in surprise. Gon's admiringly beautiful eyes, wide with delight. Mito held on to the plate of a delicious, warm chocolate cake, frosted with a hazelnut biscoff. There was a writing on the cake, 'WELCOME HOME, KILLUGON.' It was the combination of both their names, simply because she couldn't fit both of them on top. Aside from the text, two figures made out of fondant could also be seen, planted onto the cake. One was Killua, and the other one was Gon.

Mito curved her lips, her eyes were clear as day.

"I'm glad you two could make it back safe. Welcome home, kids." She set aside the cake onto a nearby table.

"MITO-SAN!!! YOU DIDN'T TELL US ABOUT THE CAKE!!", Killua complained, still grinning happily while holding onto Mito's hand. Over the 6 years together with Killua, Mito has grown quite fond of him. She held out her hand, and pat Killua on the head.

"Kil, I know you like my desserts, so this one's special, just for you." Mito mentioned, her voice unusually soft. Then, she turned to look at Gon.

She grabbed Gon's arm, pulling him in her embrace.

"As for you, Gon. I know that the cake wasn't the only thing that caught your eye. So... What do you think is behind me?" Mito asked the curious boy. He focused his eyes on the table behind her. It was a box colored with black and red, with a size roughly 15 × 15 cm. He noticed the logo, twin diamonds engraved onto the box.

"Ne, Mito-san! Are those.. earrings?" Gon guessed, undoubted of his reply. She glanced at him, her face flashes a content look. She lets go of the two boys, and takes the box behind her.

"You're right! 'Ts an important day, so I bought you something to deem important. If you didn't know, these are matching earrings for you and Ki—"

"Really?!", said Gon with a face of disbelief.

"Mito-san, you really didn't have to— but the earrings are beautiful!" His eyes glisten cheerfully, breathing in the fresh air of the room. Gon had always loved matching things with his dearest ones. He matches a bracelet with Mito, but he has never matched with Killua before, besides clothes. Of course, there was another happy presence in the room. Killua's emotions filled the room with joy.

"Woah! Look, Gon. You should wear the blue one, and I can wear the green one." He directed, impatiently wanting it.

"Sure! Do you wanna put it on now or—"

"Wait." Mito interrupted, forcing herself between them. "Don't think you two will just get these gifts without conditions." Gon gulped heavily, while Killua was secretly panicking.

"First of all, you interrupted me. Didn't I say to respect your elders? You need to learn more about that. Second. You have caused so much trouble. Don't think I haven't read all of the letters you've sent me yet. You have to train harder so you wouldn't cause much trouble in the future. And third—" Mito stopped. She flashed a smug smile. "You two smell like rotten fruit, go take a bath!" She chuckled, pinching her nose.

"Mito-san... I thought you were gonna slap us..." Gon cried out. Mito placed both her hands on her waist.

"I was, actually. Not you, but Killua." Mito uttered innocently, while Killua found it very alarming.

"Mito-san! Why only me?!" He protested, completely doubting her words.

"You don't deserve to know, Kil!" Mito spoke forwardly. "Anyways, get in the shower! You guys have been getting really dirty, only clean people are allowed to roam around the house!" Mito complained. She held both of their hands, and urged them to follow her to the bathroom. She pushed them both inside, and closed the door.

"Hurry up, Grandma wants to have lunch with you two!"

The sun was blazing a deep, orange colour. A few hours after lunch, Gon wanted to meet up and talk with Noko's father, since they had some business together. Both of them agreed to meet back here, where Killua resided, right here and right now. Killua sucked the refreshing air into his breath. A kaleidoscope of butterflies gather near him. Clusters of carnations, asters, and primroses all around. His eyes full of pure affection, that shone brighter than the sun. In front of him was an innocent soul, the soul of a Hunter, taking on a body of Gon Freecss.

Just like Gon, Killua was not Killua, but simply a tainted soul. In a body that forced himself out of the Zoldyck Family, the body of a cursed elf. But what he felt was not regret nor was it sadness. It felt... beautiful. Was it happiness? Love? Gratefulness? He didn't know. But now he did. It was liberty. Milluki had certainly freed him from the shackles of the Zoldyck Family. Killua had received liberation, and a new chapter in life. A new hope. A new light. A new start, as Killua Freecss.

But it was not a true freedom without her. 'Alluka.' That was the only word circling in his mind. Right, he had never forgotten about her. She was the magnolia of his life, his everything. The source of happiness. He vowed to ensure her safety and to never escape from her presence, yet he was here right now, at this moment, without Alluka nor Nanika. What could she be doing now? What could she be feeling now? Only Alluka herself knew. But Killua wanted to know. To do what she was doing. To feel what she was feeling. Alluka was his precious little sister, the only one he could ever accept.

Then, his eyes trailed back to Gon. He believed. He started believing that Alluka was more important than Gon. And he was half correct. Gon and Alluka. They were both so important to him, Too important. The only reason why Killua would believe that Alluka is worth more to him, is simply because he thought she wouldn't be able to survive without him. He let himself believe that lie, just because he wanted to keep the thought of protecting her. But deep inside, he knew. He believed that Alluka would be able to live by herself.

What he needed to focus on was Gon. The only thing he needs right now is Gon. He promised himself to never lose focus from Gon. Because Gon was his phosphorescence, the guide to life. He was Killua's everything. Killua was created just for him, just to meet him.

The world was a little too bright for Gon. It was hard to look directly at it. Gradually, he started peeking ahead. He slowly opened his eyes, wider and wider. The more he opened his eyes, his world became clearer and clearer. Then it was the clearest he could ever see. His world standing in front of his presence. Gon himself, staring into his heavenly blue eyes, as pretty as a painting. The silver hair made Gon's world harder to look at, the luminescence reflecting onto himself.

"Killua.." He mumbled, not able to utter another word.

Gon adjusted his eyes. He wanted to, no, he needed to rush closer to Killua. To him, Killua was like a gleaming hibiscus. A god sent angel. His world, his universe. But Killua was just too dazzling, enough to make Gon paralyzed. He couldn't move a single inch of his body, nor could he think straight. Gon's eyes were glued onto Killua, so much that he couldn't focus on anything else.

Killua took a step further. It became two steps. Three steps. Four steps. All the way until he reached Gon. Killua clasped Gon's hand. He felt a fluttering sensation as Killua began to speak.

"Gon. What happened? You seem a bit sick." Killua expressed. He was indeed worried about Gon. But all Gon could do was lower his head. He loosened his hand from Killua's. Under the two was a picnic mat, a basket of cookies and milk beside it. Gon was planning for this picnic together, yet he couldn't say anything to Killua. But he knew he had to answer, or else Killua would avoid him.

"I'm fine. Killua. Just—sit down.", urged Gon. They both sat down simultaneously, slowly getting comfortable in their spot.

"This place is nice, Gon. But what I want is for you to talk to me. Properly this time, Gon. I'm serious." Killua said. His tone seemed to be different than usual. Gon knew Killua wasn't playing any jokes this time. So he took a deep breath, and tried to regulate the state of his mind.

"Killua. Sorry. Something happened. I don't want to talk about it now. If you want to talk, talk about something else." Gon avoided. Killua seemed to be back to his normal composure.

"Okay, Gon. As long as you're here and you're safe, I won't ask any of those questions.", he promised, holding out his pinky finger. Gon was muddled for a few seconds, until he finally wrapped his mind around Killua's hand. It was... recognizable. He held out his pinky finger in front of Killua's, and the fingers clasped onto each other. Killua presented a genuine smile, his lips curving up.

"Pinky swear made. Whoever breaks their promise has to swallow a thousand needles.—" He held out his thumb, urging Gon to do so. Gon too, held out his thumb.

"And seal it with a kiss!" They both said, pressing both their thumbs to each other.

Unable to resist Killua, Gon eventually smiled. He giggled, and laughed, and his usual self reappeared. Killua started laughing with Gon too. He released Gon's hand, and seemed to be looking for something. What Gon saw in the corner of his eye, was the earring box. Killua opened the box, and handed the green earrings to Gon.

"Here, Gon. I know you would've done this earlier if you took the box. " Killua took off his current earrings.

"I'll put your earrings on you, and you'll do mine." He suggested. Gon took off his earrings, and gestured Killua to come closer.

He touched Killua's ear, slowly inserting the green earring. The mood in the air was very calm and peaceful. It was just soothing to enjoy. Gon did the same to the other ear. When it was Gon's turn, Killua sat closer to Gon, their thighs faintly touching. He held the blue earring, and carefully inserted it through the piercing. When he moved to the other side, Gon's face was right in front of his. He could feel Gon's breath on him. After a while, it was done.

"Killua, you look stunning!", Gon praised. He was already used to Killua's adorable looks, but this just melted his heart even more.

"Thanks, Gon. You look.. like you're a protagonist in a fictional work. It's a compliment, if you're confused!" Killua said whole heartedly. Gon had always been the protagonist of Killua's whole life, at least that's what he thought.

Gon's right hand brushed Killua's. Killua's hand winced a bit, but it stayed the same location. Gon's fingers intertwined itself with Killua's fingers, eventually interlocking the two hands. He fiddled with Killua's thumb a bit. The heat between the two was easily visible.

"Ne, Killua. I've always been curious. What do you think of me?" Gon asked, staying the curious boy he is. But he didn't seem so curious at this time. It was mostly... because of another reason. Killua hesitated for a moment, but he was determined to inform Gon about his true feelings.

"Gon. You are light itself. Sometimes, you're so bright that I can't even look at you." Killua uttered, looking straight (gay) into Gon's eyes.

"I don't ever want to lose you. Gon, you are more important than my own life. You're my everything. I wanna continue traveling the world. Together, just you and me."

Gon felt a rush of dopamine in his veins. His irregular heartbeat made it even worse, especially how Killua's words affected him. He never realized what Killua truly felt about him before.

He extended his left hand, cupping Killua's right side of his face. Gon's hazel brown eyes, concentrated on one thing, and one thing only. It was Killua. Killua's hands parted with Gon's. Both of his hands hold Gon's left arm.

"Killua, we will explore everything in this world. We'll find Ging, and Alluka, and have fun!" Gon affirmed, his soft smile highlighted. Killua lightly pulled Gon's left hand. He pressed his lips onto the skin of Gon's hand, his expression of peace and tranquility. A chill sent down to Gon's spine, his head was spinning in a wild state. His fingers were trembling. What was this feeling?

A few seconds passed by, and Killua released his hands. He acted like nothing had happened, but anyone could clearly see his ears flushing. He slightly opened his mouth, wanting to reply to Gon.

"If so, will you continue being my light, the light that guides me through the darkness I emit?", Killua whispered softly. He knew that his blood would always be stained, as he was born with a murderer's cold blood. But as long as Gon was here, his blood would always be irrelevant. Because he couldn't live without Gon, and he would gladly die for him.

"Of course, Killua. Because you... are the dearest to me. My dearest, Killua." Gon declared, his eyes iridescent with infatuation and yearning. He felt the warmth in Killua's words, the warmth of fondness.

Together, they were forever inseparable.

Notes:

thanks for reading, please leave kudos if you enjoyed it :3
from what i remember:
a type of Hatsu hit 5 year-old Killua and turned him into an elf. this type of elf can only die if it is killed by the person it loves the most (basically gon and alluka/nanika) but these elves sadly couldn't master men so Killua was kicked out of the Zoldyck family (by Milluki, that BITCH.) Alluka and Nanika have been trying to find him ever since. Gon found him near Whale Island and invited him in with Mito. Killua has been living there for six years, so he actually calls himself Killua Freecs. since elves can't master Nen, they actually have a secret power that the Zoldyck's never knew about. they can use nature and control it. They can also spawn or grow nature.
