Summary
Jacques joined the Knights Hospitaller hoping holy service would save him from sin. Instead, it took him to the Holy Land, to blazing heat, blood, sweat, and horror. His body survived the harrowing collapse of the last Crusader kingdom; he has doubts about his sanity. Redeployed to the front in al-Andalus, he’s captured by Muslim forces and his shattered leg is amputated by a Jewish doctor. Michael has the saddest, most beautiful eyes Jacques has ever seen and a golden earring Jacques wants to trap between his teeth. Jacques falls hopelessly in love with a man who has a hundred reasons to fear him. Can a man of peace love a man of the sword? Even if they’re reckless enough to fall in love, are they reckless enough to try to make that love last?
As this is a rabbot prequel to my ongoing medieval hucklerabbot fic, it’s not a spoiler to say this ends happily and smuttily.
