Work Text:
Frau was starting to sweat.
Which was ridiculous.
He was Verloren now. God of death. Shepherd of souls. Overseer of the cycle of reincarnation.
He should not be losing a battle of wills against a six-year-old.
… And yet.
Right in front of him, sitting on a very delicate rock formation with his legs swinging, the brat continued to stare directly at him.
Unblinking.
Unwavering.
Frau resisted the urge to cover his face and scream.
Technically, no one else could see him.
That was the entire point of being promoted to metaphysical custodian of the afterlife.
But apparently someone had decided the rules were optional.
At least for one very specific child.
Wahrheit Teito Klein tilted his head.
Still staring.
His face the epitome of innocence.
“… Kid,” Frau muttered under his breath after five whole minutes of nothing, “don’t you have classes or something?”
Or a responsible adult looking after you?
The brat blinked.
Then smiled.
Frau immediately felt dread settle in his bones.
No.
No, no, no—
He knew that smile.
That was the same smile Teito used whenever he was about to do something extremely annoying on purpose.
Usually right before scolding Frau for doing it first.
The kid slowly raised his hand, teeth gummy with childish delight.
Light flickered in the air.
Zaiphon formed glowing letters between them.
It very clearly said:
NOPE.
Frau stared.
“…You have got to be kidding me.”
Teito just gave him a very cute smile.
Frau wished he could still feel headaches.
