Her phone rings, jolting her out of her focus. It’s a custom ringtone, which she hasn’t set for anyone in years, and for a moment she thinks she must’ve set an alarm by mistake. When she takes a look at the screen, however, the name “Dorothea🌹” appears for the first time in at least five years.
She swipes up to accept the call immediately, knowing full well she’ll lose her momentum on the email. “Hello?”
“Hey, Edie,” she says, and the singsongy lilt to her voice takes Edelgard back to late nights in the dining hall together after class. “Long time no see.”
